2005 jeep grand cherokee interior door handles inoperable from the inside of the vehicle. the 2 back door handles have fallen off. we took this up with chrysler and was told this is not under warranty. this is a quality/design flaw and a huge safety issue. chrysler needs to recognize this and re-call and fix this issue. we then took our jeep into a dealer to get it fixed and paid $736 for one door panel. the only panel that could be fixed since the rest are on back order ??? we are left with 2 doors that don't operate and one cracked door handle that eventually will fall off too. please help address this concern with the 2005 jeep grand cherokee. thank you *tr
I own a 2005 jeep grand cherokee that three of the interior door panels have cracked at the door handle. if they continue to fall apart the vehicle occupant will be trapped within the vehicle. i have contacted chrysler and they are not willing to fix or help with the $1,644 bill for just the three door panels. i have explained that it is a safety issue, and the vehicle just turned 50,000 miles. if the battery were to die you would be trapped in the vehicle, or if you were forced off of the road and ended up in a lake you could not get out. i explained this to chrysler and they do not feel that it is a concern that they have to worry about. i explained that i would send pictures of the vehicle to show it is in excellent condition, and garage kept (no damage to the vehicle), adult driven. why did the other two panels crack, they have no answer. *tr
Inside door handles to open the doors from the inside broke off. there is only one door handle left, the driver's side. i have already reported this to chrysler but they said i bought a used car 2005 jeep cherokee, as is. i bought the vehicle october 2008. the vehicle looked new, it only had 29,000 miles. the door handles broke along with the casing with no force what so ever. i told chysler that i have young grand children, that if an accident is to occur there is no way the children can get out of the vehicle. i live in brownsville, texas where the weather gets very hot in the summer. if ever one of my child gets in the vehicle and locks him/her self in, there is no way the child can get out. the temperatures in the summer sometimes reach 100 degrees. right now, the driver has to get out first and open the door for everyone else. my wife, front passenger side, lowers the window first and opens the door from the outside. even my wife, if by chance i turn off the motor get off the vehicle and walk away, there is no way my wife can get out of the vehicle. she can not reach the drivers handle or crossover the shift gear to get accross to get out of the vehicle. the vehicle motor needs to be running in order for the window's motor to work to lowere the window. i am just letting you know, maybe there are other owners with the same problem. i was told by a mechanic at an auto dealer chevolet that he saw a jeep just like mine with the same problem, the handles broken. i will be reporting this to my insurance allsate, for safety reasons in case an accident ever occurs. i read the article on the toyota recall, concerning farmers insurance where they have had a lot of complaints. *tr
All interior door panels on the 2005 jeep grand cherokee have cracked and, in some cases, broke apart around the door handle. i have had three repaired at a dealership at personal cost and one is pending. i believe it is a defect in the plastic resin manufacturing process for the early 2005 grand cherokees because all four door panels have cracked in the exact same place. chrysler was contacted on numerous occasions and denies that this is an issue. this is a potential safety issue because if the door handle breaks loose, you cannot open the door to exit the vehicle from the inside. this exact issue has been documented several times by other grand cherokee owners and all of them have had similar results with chrysler's denial of an issue. *tr
Front door has poor quality plastic which causes door to become inoperable in jeep grand cherokee 2005 models. please inspect quality, dealer refuses to help, and while researching to replace panel, due to huge safety concerns we came across many other consumers with the exact same problem. thank you for your attention to this matter. *tr
Door handle broken, unable to get out after an accident. *tr
Re: 2005 jeep grand cherokee limited - interior door panels (where door handle is attached) are cracking and falling away resulting in the door handles no longer being attached to the door. this requires, at times, the door to be opened from outside the vehicle. chrysler will not replace as the vehicle is out of warranty. the dealership wants $700 + labor (per door) to repair something that is obviously a manufacturing/material defect and safety hazard. *tr
Purchased vehicle on 7-31-06. upon test drive the door locks would nt lock or unlock when using door key (any dr in the car). the remote did work. salesman told us 2 bring it in if it cont'd. taken in 5 times since the 1st time in october 05', dealerships cannot dupt the issue. last dealership said that if he toggled switch about 10 times it happened, but that was just "overheating the button & that is normal". problem is i work in a building w/a prkg garage & work all hrs. when i get into my car, 4 safety i lock the drs immed. there have been several occasions where i can't do that & have 2 wait 2 get the car moving over the 15mi an hour 2 lock the drs. next issue is the delayed engagement in the transmission going 2 rev or drv. the car has been in on 3 occasions for this item of which the dealership clears codes or cannot dupt the issue. this issue became a an issue in a construction zone at a rr track near our home. gates were down when i drove up & i was 3rd car back, the gates went up, 2 cars went through & i was almost at the tracks when the railroad arms started coming down again. i put on the brakes & shifted to reverse 2 back up & the delay nearly caused the rr arm 2 hit the car. i backed up just enough to clear the rr arm by less than 6 inches. the last item is the a/c. since late march of 06' we have been experiencing the a/c blowing cold, then the air turns 2 warm or hot air blowing from 3 sec 2 minutes of blowing humid air before the system will kick in again with cold air. this has been intermittently like the other 2 items above. 3 times into the dealerships & again it was stated they fixed it when it wasn't or "it's 114 degrees out, it is going 2 blow warm air". "using outside air will make the a/c blow warm air'. the incident date is hard since there are 3 issues so i put the day of purchase. the failures are also ...
Door panel handles cracked on all 4 doors, unable to exit the vehicle from the back. passengers are unable to open door. plastic cracked and finally gave way in the rear of vehicle, front doors are cracked and very close to giving way. huge safety issue here. defected materials, date indeterminable of issue based on defects. *tr
The interior door handles are breaking off as a result of weak material, this problem is widespread for jeep owners throughout the us, and abroad, this is a major safety concern for potential victims of a crash, or even worse a fire or a water evacuation as it is next to impossible to safely exit the vehicle without the support of an operational door handle.. there is most certainly other complaints regarding this issue, the edmunds forum has an extensive complaint list for this issue, and it's not just the 05 models.. the dealerships are offering a fix for $700 per door, please look into this problem before someone is killed as a result if no has died already. this is in regards to 05-08 models of the jeep grand cherokee interior door handles. *tt
