We have classified the 846 complaints from 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
At random times while driving, while in park, and just after startup, all dashboard gauges, lights, and power goes out, headlights turn off, but the engine still runs. i cannot see what is in front of me at night, i cannot tell my speed, i cannot see my fuel level, etc. the outage lasts from 2-30 seconds before every single warning light will illuminate for a few seconds, or flicker on and off, and then return to normal. i replaced the ignition 2 years ago from a previous recall notice. this is extremely dangerous because i never know when it will happen, it could happen at night on a heavily trafficked street and i lose all power and lights!
My car just stop one day i put in new stuff and it just won't crank anymore it's like it don't wanna get gas the system and computer in car don't work
The vehicle will not stay started. took the jeep to a dealership and was told the part that is needed will not be available until december. part is called skim module. part is vin specific. is there an alternative? i use this vehicle for work and cannot be without a vehicle for 5 months. i was very disappointed to hear chrysler cannot repair my vehicle due to a part availability and length of time. i having purchasing chrysler products for 30 years.
When driving or sitting stationary all lights and gauges go out on the dash board. was told it was the ignition switch. i had the ignition switch recall performed. vehicle still randomly has the same issue. fm radio very bad reception. numerous postings on internet about both of these issues.
While driving the vehicle on freeway in traffic 70+ mph the ignition shut down, came back on, and back off again.. after i wiggled the key in the ignition before it came back on... caused sway brake protect to fail.. extremely dangerous..
Takata recall check engine light code ignition position switch and other codes keep popping up. jeep keeps stalling and losing power while driving.
While driving all the instrument / gage lights came on then went off several times, while this was going on the vehicle speedometer and tachometer went to zero stayed for a few seconds , long enough for me to pull to the side of the road, then resumed operating. not sure if direction lighting was responding on exterior of vehicle at the time. or head lights, as it was daytime. i had difficulty getting people to acknowledge as it's generally a very busy road traveled. meridian rd puyallup wa.

I purchased a 2005 jeep grand cherokee on 10/14/2017 and on 10/20/2017 on my way from droping my kid off ,coming home my car started to run sluggish so getting off the highway it caught on fire.was there ever a recall on this car, so i look on the internet and found out that a recall involves 2005 .that the transmission fluid will get too hot cause it boil and eject some of the fluid could come into contact with a hot part of the exhaust and cause an engine according to jeep recall grand cherokee over fire danger web site. **see also 11053735**

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly shut off. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (de cozen chrysler/jeep in verona, nj) where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch was faulty. the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000(electrical system) and the ignition switch was replaced; however, the failure continued. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 164,000.
I purchased my 05 jeep grand cherokee 3.7l v6 with 79k miles on it june 21, 2016. in july of 2017, it started to bog down with a constant shutter when starting up and accelerating, the cel was also on. i took it in to have the cel checked out and it was showing 22 codes saying that the o2 sensor had a high voltage circuit. upon examinng and testing the o2 sensor there was nothing found to be wrong. a couple weeks later the cel came on again, but this time it showed the same o2 sensor was running lean and rich at the same time. i replaced the sensor at that time. now it is showing another code p0430 and the timing chain for the electronic shift transmission is jumping. i was informed this happens to these transmissions all the time and there is no repair for it. all i can do is drive it until it goes and buy a new transmission. this is not fair
Electronic shifter module had gone out. park reverse neutral in and drive are the only functions available. to downshift from drive fourth, third, second, and first have lost all ability. primarily the driving of the vehicle is through the streets of san francisco and the ability to downshift is necessary to avoid collision and to climb the steep hills. not only for myself, but for anybody else with this problem for example: driving to an exit ramp from speeds of 65 and needing to decelerate to 25 would be very difficult and major where on the brake system. now for climbing the hills of san francisco in a high gear puts a major stress on the transmission. please take into consideration that the electronic shifter module should be recalled for safety . this vehicle has already been recalled for an ignition and has been replaced but i received several notices from jeep starting out as simple and is nicely put his please see your service dealership there is a recall and to the extreme of receiving notices that said your vehicle has a recall and you are putting other peoples lives in danger by neglecting to have it fixed. i have done my homework and the ignition and was told from a dealership that it was not necessary since i only use the key with no keychain. i have also done my homework on the electronic shifter module and there are many people who have made videos or testimonies about their jeeps having the problem of the ability not to downshift through the electronic shifter module. in the past 12 years i pray that there has been no accidents in direct relation to this electronic shifter module but if you're a driver you know that every gear on the vehicle is there for a reason and rely on the safety of the vehicle.
1. door handles broken on 3 doors 2. electrical system - lights flickering and completely going out while driving at night. 3. transmission slips out of gear while driving and will not always change gears. found where other grand cherokee vehicles were recalled for these conditions but not the one i own.
The front headlights and all interior electronics including lights, gauges, radio, etc. shut off. this happens on initial startup at home and in city parking lots, also acted while the engine has been running in motion. the vehicle has to be turned off and back on repeatedly until lights and electronics begin functioning again.
While driving my jeep randomly shifts into neutral so i need to pull off the road and put into park then back into gear, and i just got a recall notice for the ignition switch.

2005 jeep grand cherokee. seems to be there's electrical issue all the dash lights would turn on turn off happened while i was driving on the freeway and had to come to a stop it stalled out it happened when i started up the car and i turned it off and took it to the shop two different times pretty much the same problem first time it has 68 codes reading off of it so they replace my battery the second time the lights will come on and go off and come on and then it wouldn't even go it was undriveable at that point so we took it to the shop and then a month later it's starting all over again i was driving down the road came to a stop light plied the brakes and then all of the sudden the gauges were going crazy. the idol was moving up and down the lights would come on and go off and it's all the lights not just air bag or anything like that it was all the lights. i read on the internet other people been having the same issue it's scary when somebody is explaining the same thing that's going on in your car. it is unknown at this time what this phantom problem is and it's highly dangerous. i also bought this jeep used and don't know it this was happening beforehand. *have a video but this site won't upload it.
2005 jeep grand cherokee v8 w/hemi. took the jeep to a dealership for repairs for stalling. they detected a leak from the ac unit and a seal that was letting the water enter the transmission they flushed it refilled it. look that recalls found a recall number e-13 on a 2005 jeep grand cherokee that stated the same thing cept for if the torque converter is compromised it would be replaced. call the chrysler number offered on the website and ask them if there was anything they could do they stated no there was nothing they could do so it's going to be an expense to me because it wasn't stated for the v8 engine it was only stated for the 3.7 liter engine. this is very troubling because if they didn't detect that and the other vehicles then obviously it's going to cause an accident or something to happen when you lose power throughout your vehicle especially when you're on the highway or even a busy road. i stated to them it is word for word and what was wrong with my car and they still. and being on disability at the moment and trying to pay for these repairs and still paying the car off is very difficult. i would like this issue to be resolved by the chrysler. if they neglected to see any issues in the v8 model that occurred in the 3.7 liter engine model there will probably be lawsuits against them. it is frustrating that this is happening and they can't help a jeep owner out probably will never bite you again. let's just hope my engine don't catch on fire either. being afraid to drive a car is not ok expecially when it's the only car you have and you can't afford to repair or buy a new one cuz you're on disability.
It is unknown at this time what is causing all these lights to come on when the car is turned on and idling. looked on the internet quite a few other people had experienced the same problem some still couldn't figure out what it was when they took it to the auto mechanic shops. was wondering if this was part of a recall. this could cause an accident when you lose power and you're driving down the street. this started happening a couple of days ago. *tr

2005 jeep grand cherokee. consumer writes in regards to ignition switch safety recall. *ld the consumer stated the while attempting to make a left turn the steering and brakes failed. the vehicle went off the road and about 15 feet nose first into a gully. the air bags did not deploy. the consumer stated a recall was later released that appeared to have been related to the failures. the manufacturer advised the failure was not related to the recall. *js
Have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee limited. issue is starter wiring harness is routed to close to the exhaust manifold. the wires have been melted by the heat. at times the jeep will not start do to one of the wires condition from the heat. if you drive thru a large water puddle it pulls the wire off the starter & jeep will not start. you can clearly see the connector is melted do to exhaust manifold heat. i have done a little research & many others have reported similar issues. the wiring damaged is not available for purchase. also i am positive many people have been charged for a new starter when it is simply a wire connection issue. we have had this issue happen several times in the past 2 years. only took it happening the second time & i figured out what the issue was. we to replaced the starter to find melted wiring loom going to starter. the issue still comes up from time to time. it is always the blade connection going to starter. do to the melting of insulation on wires the connector has lost its ability to stay connected.
(my state, zip code & tele no. are wrong as i'm in the uk) on several occasions the engine dies in motion, on a motorway, street, main road etc. instrument panel lights go off, loss of power steering & so far i've managed to pull over but was nearly hit by another vehicle yesterday hence this complaint. this problem is extremely dangerous & could quite easily lead to a serious accident. when my local jeep fixed recalls i asked about the ignition switch problem that i've read about on the internet, asking if they had replaced it and they told me that they had reprogrammed the system so should be okay. well, the issue is still very much alive and far from okay.

2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo with 3.7 liter motor shows all four gears park neutral reverse and drive "prnd" active at the same time and the check engine obdii code u0103 (can bus communication lost with the shifter). this condition reoccurs every 1 to 7 days approximately. while in this mode the vehicle is in limp mode stuck in 2nd gear. i tried to drive it to the dealership twice with this condition on back roads but it will clear after driving for about 5 miles in limp mode. i had the vehicle towed to the jeep dealership with this condition present. it cleared while they were trying to diagnose problem and they couldn't get it to repeat while driving it with my permission for three weeks. they were unable to diagnose the problem and no repairs were made. i got my vehicle back after three weeks at dealeship and problem reoccurred after two days of driving. trying to drive this vehicle in limp mode is very dangerous as you cannot exceed about 30 miles per hour causing dangerous conditions to myself and other drivers on roads with speed limits higher than 30 mph. this is a serious safety issue and the dealership can't diagnose the problem. in the meantime i am stuck with a very unsafe vehicle

While driving the vehicle in drive it slips into gear 3 by itself and when i attempt to accelerate its in limp mode. i always have to pull to the side and shut the vehicle on and restart it several times before it actually shift the ( d ) drive.
On 04/23/2016 i took my vehicle for a recall, p41 / nhtsa 14v-438 today is 7/10/2016 and the vehicle has done the same thing twice, all of a sudden all the lights in the dash board go on i loose power and after a while it starts up again. like i said before this has happen twice now i lost my cruise control and a service electrical brake system is coming on and engine light. i fear that this is going to cause me to have an accident one day and there for i have been using only secondary roads that don't have much traffic.

I made an appointment at paulding chrysler jeep dodge in dallas, ga on 5-17-16. this appointment was scheduled one week prior to 5-17-16 to replace the ignition switch (p41) and to update a computer system (p73). i was told that the ignition switch was in stock. i brought my vehicle in for the repair at 0830 on 5-17-16. i received a phone call @ 1300 from one of the service managers (nate) telling me that the part was not in stock to replace the ignition switch and i would have to bring it back in when the part was available. when i picked up my vehicle that afternoon i was told that the dealership would contact me and reschedule an appointment for the replacement of the ignition switch. since then, i have not heard anything from the dealership and my vehicle has lost power 3 times after i picked up my vehicle. i was backing out of my driveway when the vehicle lost power the first time and twice sitting at a red light. i need this resolved right away. i am a home health rn and i drive all day seeing patients.

Brought vehicle in for oil change (only oil change). jeep dealer gave back vehicle back with a new ignition stating there was a recall on it without me asking or authorizing them to do so. now i have a new ignition that is not flush with the dash (sticks out about half an inch) and does not work properly with my original keys. my keys are extremely difficult to go in and out of the ignition and on 2 separate occasions the key was unable to be removed from the ignition resulting in the acc being left on overnight and being forced to take vehicle to dealer in the morning with a dead battery. dealer states i need to purchase a new key because my keys are original and the ignition they replaced is brand new and are not synced up. the service manager told me it is my problem to purchase new keys for the jeep that had no issues prior to them replacing the ignition. called jeep customer service and they told me i would be given a new key but than put me on hold for 20 minutes and told me it is actually my responsibility to purchase a new key after they changed out my ignition.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the low beam head lamps, interior lighting, and instrument panel lights flickered. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and repaired per a manufacturer's recall to address the failures. shortly after the recall repair, the low beam lights failed to illuminate, the instrument cluster shorted out, and the instrument panel gauges failed to function properly. the dealer was notified of the failures and provided no recommendation. the approximate failure mileage was 175,000.
The gauges intermittently work, the radio works intermittently, the power windows don't work, the power door locks don't work, the power seat doesn't work, the power mirrors don't work and i've had the vehicle into my local jeep dealership (willy racine's jeep) repeatedly for electrical issues. they have replaced a variety of components including the ignition cylinder and switch. i continue to have problems. the battery and starter have also been replaced as the car was either having a hard time turning over, wouldn't turn over or even stalled while driving. those issues still continue but very infrequently.
While driving, the instrument panel will flicker on and off, the heater/cooler blower shuts down, cuts out. the speedometer and tachometer quit working as well.
