We have classified the 846 complaints from 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
I own a 2005 jeep grand cherokee that has 4 interior door handles broken. to get out of my car i have to roll down my window, open my door and then open the rest of the doors for my 3 kids. this is a scary situation in case i am involved in an accident and there is a fire. if my jeep turns off how am i supposed to roll down the electrical window and escape out of my car. our safety is in great danger because of defective door handles that are not even forced and break off so easily. another problem i have with my jeep is that when i start it and start driving, the electrical brake system light, the engine light, the abs light and some other light turn on. after the lights turn, the speedometer will no longer work, i can't see how many miles per hour i am driving. i have to turn of the jeep, restart it and that will make the speedometer work but the engine light will not go off. in a couple of occasions i have come to make a complete stop with the vehicle and all of a sudden it will turn off dead. i have to put the vehicle in park and restart it again. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving various speeds, she noticed that the entire instrument panel illuminated intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer five times. in 2009, the instrument cluster was replaced and the failure recurred three months later. the vehicle was not recently repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 23,994.
My 2005 jeep grand cherokee limited will not start sometimes. everything else will seem to be working fine, but i go to start my car and i get a click, but no crank. the battery, alternator, starter, solenoid have all been tested, and do not seem to be the problem. i have found many other jeep owners that have had the same problem. *tr
Wiring harness on my 2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo burned. checked on internet and this seems to be a common problem on this jeep model. dealer would not replace or acknowledge issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at speeds of 60 mph, the headlights, brake lights and instrument panel lights began flickering abnormally. the dealer replaced the computer chip in an attempt to correct the failure yet the failure recurred. the vehicle had been to the dealer four times due to the intermittent failure yet the failure persisted. the failure mileage was 24,000 and the current mileage was 28,000.
Driving home from work (55-65 mph) me head light went off, they then proceeded to blink on and off. from time to time the head lights still blink off and on but it is impossible for me to recreate this situation. the dash lights still continue to blink off and on all the time. chrysler will not acknowledge a problem and i know of three other vehicles this happens to as well. i have never had anyone find anything wrong with vehicle (so i have been told). *tr
No events leading up to failure- normal driving conditions and did not experience any similar problem before. headlights turn off while driving or flicker on and off. occurred frequently after car running for more than 10 minutes with lights on. fixed problem by having the headlight switch replaced at a cost of $335.00. *tr
Instrument cluster lights all light up at the same time. speedometer and rpm indicator drop to zero. then all instrument cluster lights go out completely. this keeps occurring at 10sec to 10 minute intervals. vehicle has to be stopped, and turned off for the problem to go away. next day, same thing all over again. a quick search of the internet reveals that this is not an isolated incident. the vehicle has been in to the dealer several times, at a cost of hundreds of dollars. the dealer tells me this is not a known problem. there is a current recall for the 2014 jeep grand cherokee for this exact same problem. in 9 years chrysler has still not managed to fix the problem. they deny there is a problem on my vehicle, but accept that the exact same problem exists on the 2014 model? this is a dangerous situation for which chrysler should be held responsible. a recall is required to the thousands of jeep grand cherokees prior to the 2014 model that are experiencing the same issue. *tr
I parked my vehicle in a driveway and took the key out of the ignition. i opened the rear passenger door and put my son in the backseat. the vehicle gearshift lever was pushed out of park and into reverse with my 3 year old son in the vehicle. the vehicle rolled backwards 20 feet and crashed into a truck. if the truck wasn't there it would have rolled even further into the pond. i'm just hoping this doesn't happen to anyone else, it could've killed someone. i am contacting my dealership to try to get the issue resolved. according to the owner's manual the brake transmission interlock system failed on my vehicle. you should not be able to move the gear shift lever in the p (park) position when the ignition switch is in the lock position. to move the gear selector lever out of the p (park) position, the ignition switch must be turned to the on position, and the brake pedal must be depressed. *tr
When starting ignition, wipers activate. while driving, headlights and instrument panel flash intermittently. when starting ignition and while driving, air conditioner blower shuts down, cuts out intermittently and blower, when operative, only works on high. sometimes switching to off and restarting or hitting a bump activates blower. at one time opening and closing the glove compartment activated blower but not any longer. passenger air bag lights continuously.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that intermittently, the vehicle failed to start. in april 2010 the dealer replaced the starter however, the failure recurred sporadically. the vehicle was being repaired for the starter a second time. the manufacturer advised the contact that there were no related recalls and offered no further assistance. the current mileage was 110,000 and the failure mileage was 50,000.
Electrical system : starter failure replaced by dealer twice. first replaced on 05/20/08. this part failed on 02/16/09 and was replaced again with 34447 miles on the vehicle. *tr
1. while driving at a standard velocity of 55 mph, the engine lamp in the dash board turns on and the velocity of the jeep grand cherokee decreases very fast with shaking motions. even thought the accelerator is pushed to increase velocity, it did not respond. these has happened about 4 times in 4 years. nothing has been done since the event is an intermittent one. 2. under normal use the interior panels in the area of the handles got broken. to correct this, the interior panels (4 panels) were reordered. *tr
Blower motor relay burned out three times. after search on internet found this is a very common problem with this vehicle. *tr
While driving the entire electrical system fails; lights start flashing, heat goes out, all system warning lights flash ( brakes, tire pressure, service 4 wheel drive system, check engine light comes on), i was able to continue to drive the car but the lights flashed continuously for approximately 15 miles. this has happened multiple times since i purchased the suv june 2005. the dealership runs test by say they cannot find anything wrong. i have read on the internet that this is happening to many owners of the 2005 jeep grand cherokee and the dealers and mechanics at the dealership cannot find anything wrong. this is a dangerous situation as many people also loose power and the suv shift into low gear. i am afraid to drive my jeep now because the check engine light keeps coming on and off. i am going back to the dealership again for some more stupid "i did not find anything wrong" statements. originally i was told it was because i had a remote starter so i has it disconnected and the problem still exists. *tr
As i drive my 2005 jeep grand cherokee( hemi)the vehicle simply shuts off. all the lights on the dashboard turn on then the car turns off. i end up with no control. sometimes this happens and then the vehicle turns on all by itself while im driving. about a week after i purchased it, i had this problem but the dealer said it was fine. as i took it to the gas station across the street, it happened. the dealership employees witnessed it and were nice enough to run over and pushed the vehicle back to the shop. they said they couldn't find anything but replaced the battery just in case. since then it happens at once every two months. currently, i have an airbag issue. the dealer cannot seem to repair any of these issues. the airbag lights turn on indicated the airbags are off because it does not sense anyone on the seats. it has been to the dealership 3 times for this issue and i am waiting for a call back to return it so they can install an ecm. they think it may be the issue. this will be the fourth visit for the airbags. seems the vehicle has a lot of electrical problems. i have not driven the vehicle since december 22nd. it is now feb 25. i am afraid of going over the warranty miles. *tr
Purchased vehicle 8/9/08. at this time only problem we was you had to press clock button for radio to work. during 2008 we noticed a lot of odd behavior in electrical areas. october 29, 2009 brought jeep to used car dealership with these complaints: first check engine light started coming on, then it began flashing, door chime starts dinging, illuminated areas dim & brighten-flashing, dashboard lights go crazy flashing on & off, interior lights turn on & off, transmission lights go crazy & need to shift down in order to get vehicle to drive, headlights & tail lights flash on and off which is very unsafe while driving on a dark highway at night. used car dealership had car towed to jeep dealership in new london. these repairs cost $500.12 for faulty crank sensor, sensor crankshaft, spark plugs, leak at trans electrical. august 17, 2011 took to a new dealership w/ same problems. went to valenti jeep in mystic, ct. was advised junction block needed to be replaced and codes in multiple modules reset-this cost $318.52. september 10, 2011 back to valenti jeep for same problems & for install. of junction box costing $249.00 because of installation costs & other items we were advised to take care of. meanwhile as a warning this all begins after check engine light starts flashing. by september 28, 2011 it begins again: at this time check engine light & all other lights start up again, along with fact that you can now pull key out & vehicle is still running. blinking dash lights, ac on & off, gauges drop to 0, told only reason this is happening is because we have remote start system they don't use. tech reset system & disconnected our remote start system at a cost of $90.40. then by october of 2011-approximately, check engine light has returned & transmission lights are blinking. also headlights started flashing & tail lights. these issues are very sporadic. *tr
My 2005 jeep grand cherokee with 50,000 miles, has huge electrical issues. it either will not start and leaves me stranded at home, market, at night after work, or.... if i can get it running after 5 minutes of driving the transmission goes into "limp" mode on the freeway or surface streets and i am afraid i will be stranded again. the dealer has changed out numerous electrical parts to no avail. i as a single woman do not feel safe in this car and have asked the mfg and the dealer to replace it again with no response. *tr
While driving west on i-8 in arizona vehicle went completely dead without warning, power steering was lost, etc. fortunately i was able to steer the vehicle onto side of the highway and bring to a stop. traffic was virtually no-existent on this stretch of the road otherwise a crash of some kind would most likely take place. as we were in the middle of now where i immediately attempted to start the vehicle up again which it did without a problem. i was able to drive away and vehicle seemed to drive perfectly normal. i recently had the same problem happen again. and, again, i happen to be on a road with very little traffic so i was able to pull over and again the vehicle started up again without a hitch. i attributed the problem to the location of the ignition switch which makes it almost impossible not to bump into the key with your right knee anytime you're traveling long distances and wind up moving your feet around just to stretch them. i now realize that's a much larger problem than that. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that her vehicle shut completely off while idling at a stop light. she drifted slowly across the median and was able to restart the vehicle after approximately five minutes. the dealer kept the vehicle for a few days and stated that there was electrical failure. the failure occurred without warning. the failure mileage was 36,000.
The headlights and dashboard lights turn on and off while driving. on occasion when attempting to start the car the vehicle was totally dead. i had to replace the starter, only 29,000 miles on the car and was advised half of the starter was defective. the problem still continues. can only assume it is a wiring, electrical problem. the vehicle is a hazard as you never know when this will happen causing myself and other drivers to use caution around the vehicle. this vehicle is definitely defective and should not have left the factory floor. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact was driving approximately 70 mph with the air conditioner in operation when it suddenly failed along with the entire instrument panel.the contact shut off the engine and when restarted, the check engine warning light was illuminated. the warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was shut off a second time. the failure occurred three times. the control module and battery were previously replaced by the dealer. the vin was unavailable. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 52,000.
2005 jeep grand cherokee limited. my right front directional stays on all the time. even when key is off. i took the bulbs out so battery would not go dead. i am driving without the front right directional. called dealer, they tell me the front control module is out of warranty, and if i buy one from ebay at $50 it may not work and has to be programmed at dealer. they are going to give me a discount price to repair of $603. i told them to order the part over a week ago, and today they told me it is on back order and they will call me when it comes in. is this a common problem, and if so shouldn't they have a part some where to repair it? thank you for your help. *tr
On numerous occasions my car has stalled out while driving, leaving a catastrophic loss in power. this has happened to me about 5 times now. thankfully i have not been on the highway or had cars behind me at that time. *tr
I have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee that i've owned 2 years and have put 28,000 miles on it and my battery is dead. not realizing what a pain it would be to get a new battery i thought oh well. well upon contacting every auto place and multiple dealerships within a 25 mile radius i found out that no one carries this mopar/chrsyler battery. it has to be special ordered and to top it off it goes for between 120-150 and this is the only choice for this suv. per the dealerships the battery does come with a 72 month warranty at least. so i call chrysler to see if they will prorate the battery being i've only the jeep 2 years and it's only 3 years old. well of course they say no. when you purchase one of their cars the battery is only warranted for 36 months or 36,000 miles but if i go buy the exact same battery now they will warranty it for 72 months. to me this does not sound accurate but they refuse to help in anyway. they said there is absolutely nothing they can do. i am not asking for something for free but i believe the battery should be prorated. *tr
Safety recall 2005 jeep grand cherokee/transmission fluid leak. vehicle shakes violently/shudders on highway &when speeding up/ slowing down. jeep serviced on 5 separate occasions for recall over 36 months. repaired incorrectly on 1st visit to dealer service. brought in 4 subsequent times/approx. every 10,000 mi- to fix same issue transmission/ failed torque converter/shudder. dealer argued no recall of this item, despite having nhtsa recall info/my vin was noted on recall. dealer refused to waive $100 powertrain warranty fee each time jeep brought back. dealer insisted mopar parts have 9,000 mi warranty/ i would pay for repair b/c i drove 10,000 mi since previous repair. dealer refused to provide rental car despite 5-7 day s to repair. recall states a loaner vehicle to be provided if scheduled repair would take >1+days. a local 5 star jeep/chrysler dealership refused to service jeep after their initial recall repair failed at 10,000 miles. i was told to take jeep back to dealership i leased it from. dealership manager told me it was not his problem to fix & 5 star jeep name did not mean anything to him. said he was not concerned about recall. i brought jeep to the leasing dealership- they refuted claims of a recall & told me to pay for all repairs & loaner car. it wasn't until 4th&5th time jeep was in for service that a loaner car was provided because i told dealer i was pursuing ohio lemon law. the last time i brought jeep in for service of this recall item, i was told to go on a drive with serviceman to verify problem. he told me it was torque converter & not to fix it b/c he didn't think there would be a fires from leak. i showed him nhtsa recall. he said i would pay for mopar parts b/c they were out of warranty @ 12,000 miles. i told him i had 10,000 miles since last service. he spoke to manager & they serviced jeep. jeep is again shuddering/clunking. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the air conditioner would only function properly when on a high setting. the repair shop stated that the wire harness for the blower motor was melting and causing the failure. the dealer stated that a new blower and wire harness was needed. the current and failure mileages were 32,600.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at any speed, the vehicle shuts off whenever an object touches the ignition key. the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. the current mileage was 22,200 and failure mileage was 18,000. updated 05/19/08. *lj
I have been having issues with my cherokee since early 2007; multiple issues including the car stalling, check engine light coming on/off, all the dashboard lights turning on and off and multiple attempts in getting the car to turn on. i have taken the car to multiple repair shops; both dealership and local repair shops looking for answers. i have been given the same diagnosis each time; the transmission control module is faulty. the transmission control module has been replaced (3) times and works for a little less than a year and then the problem returns. i first heard of the safety recall - ignition switch p41/nhtsa 14v-438 (as i later learned) from the media. i called the nearest dealership to inquire on when i could bring the car in for repair. they said they didn't have the part and to call back when i get a letter saying the part is available; that was almost 6 months ago. in the meantime i have also received a letter from chrysler informing me of the recall. that came almost 3 month after the recall was on the news.yesterday, while driving my car all the dashboard lights came on and off and my car momentarily stalled while driving down the highway. these are the same issues i've been having where the transmission control module has been replaced and reading the symptoms of this ignition switch problem, i think they are related. i called chrysler's recall assistance center today and was on hold for 2 hours before i gave up. there was no way to leave a message for chrysler to call me back. the recall has been in affect since july 2014 and has not been resolved in a reasonable time. i am afraid to drive my vehicle as it is a safety hazard to myself and others. this is causing a lot of difficulty for me as this is my only mode of transportation and there is no repair in the foreseeable future. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee limited. while the contact was driving approximately 65 mph, the electrical brake system service warning light illuminated. the vehicle stalled after the warning light illuminated. the vehicle was restarted and began functioning normally. the failure occurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer three times for a similar failure; however, the technician was unable to duplicate the failures. the vehicle had not been repaired and the failure continued to occur. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was approximately 18,000.
While suv is running on the road and / or on full stop the dashboard lights turn on and off several times within seconds, rpms decreases, engine stops and air conditioning turn on and off. this conditions have occurred all at the same time or in combinations. in one occasion the battery went dead in middle of the road. the dealership has not been able to find the source of the problem. the problem may occur in busy traffic posing risk of car accident. *jb
i bought the jeep cherokee laredo in june 2005 and i have experienced several events with the instrument panel lighting system and gauges. the panel goes on and off until the engine and / or air conditions shut off. at one point the battery needed to be replaced. it has been very stressful having this condition occurring while driving or at a traffic light. both dealer and chrysler have improvised some repairs (6 times) that had not resolved the problem. i have decided to file legal action against the dealer and chrysler after seeing in the nhtsa complaint database that this is a widespread and systemic problem with this model. if you want to join the effort to pursue actions using the "lemon" or any applicable law request a complaint research of this complaint record to have access to my phone and e-mail address. having a joint effort will result in louder and more effective results to defend our rights as consumers. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact was driving approximately 65 mph when the engine stalled without warning. the vehicle restarted and began to function normally. in addition, the entire electrical system would not function which included the instrument panel and temperature gauges. the failures occurred intermittently and became progressively worse over time. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where a diagnostic test was performed. the technician was unable to identify the electrical problem. the manufacturer stated that they would conduct a research regarding the electrical failure and follow up with the contact. the contact stated that the manufacturer had not been responsive to him concerning the safety defects when the complaint was filed. the failure mileage was 30,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at 70 mph, the contact's knee encountered the ignition key and the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 38,000. updated 09/10/15*lj
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the headlights flickered on her vehicle, and would also turn off and not back on. the instrument panel lights would also flicker. on approximately 6-8 occasions, the vehicle would not start. the computer system was replaced and the starting failure was resolved; however, the headlights still flickered approximately 90% of the time they were activated. the vin was unknown. the current mileage was 52,000 and failure mileage was 38,000.
Drivers side window on 2005 jeep grand cherokee on first occasion, may 2007 came out of power window track, wedged between mirror and door frame and the pressure resulted in spider cracked throughout window. this is a hazard due to potential window exploding onto driver while in transit. also inability to close window during inclement weather could result in traffic crash. initial repair resulted in window motor also needing to be replaced, motor warranted by chrysler, but labor was charge to customer. second occasion september 16,2007, same drivers side door window came out of power window track and wedged between mirror and door frame. this time window did not crack, however, chrysler dealer would not cover under warranty, charging customer. story chrysler jeep, advised window track parts to repair the molding was back ordered for 3 weeks. dealership glued old track molding into place so it would not slip out of place causing this power window issue. ( vehicle has 51,031 miles ) additionally, ac/ heat control blower resistor and wiring melted on plug in behind glove compartment of vehicle. this resulted in blower motor only working on high. may be a fire hazard with this vehicle.... again dealer would not warranty work due to 51,031 miles on vehicle this 2.5 years old vehicle has significant safety issues. *jb
Since 4/24/07, my 2005 jeep grand cherokee will intermittently fail to start. this typically has happened after driving it throughout the day without incident. (only once did it happen early in the morning after sitting all night.) for the first two failures, jumping the battery was successful. the third incident, where the jump didn't work, led to the battery being replaced, although the old battery was never diagnosed as faulty. when the car failed to start with the new battery, the keys were re-coded by a jeep dealer. it then failed to start with the newly coded keys. the ignition was eliminated as a problem, and the starter was replaced (with an after-market product). when the car failed to start again, the starter was replaced a second time (with a chrysler part) and the ignition once again was diagnosed as working. after the next failure to start, a temperature sensor in the transmission was replaced. when the car again failed to start, i was told the newly replaced temperature sensor was faulty, it was being replaced, and the car would be ready the next day. now, three days after being told the car would be ready,i'm told that no one knows what the problem is, although the diagnostics now indicate there is a problem. i was told by the current jeep dealer servicing it that no one could be consulted at chrysler until the problem could be replicated. (although it is a timely process, the problem has been replicated while in repair.) it is now august 3, 2007, and for the last 102 days my grand cherokee has been in and out of repair for weeks at a time. when i have had access to it, i have not been able to drive it with any confidence. the dealer (not a jeep dealer) where i purchased this car has been loaning me vehicles and they have been exceptional in their concern, despite anyone's ability to resolve this. their daily attention my faulty vehicle is the only reason, as a first-time jeep grand cherokee owner, that i have been able to stay on the road today. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the instrument panel lights, headlights, break lights and airbags lights flickered. in addition, the vehicle would not start and the four wheel drive had also failed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the problem. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who offered a partial reimbursement but the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 27,000 and the current was 120,000.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 35 mph, all the warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated intermittently. this was accompanied by all the gauges ceasing to function with a clicking noise coming from the dashboard panel. the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where it was determined that moisture had collected in the junction box. the junction box was replaced, but the problems persisted.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 60 mph on the interstate, there was a loss of all vehicle power, and the engine stalled without warning. afterwards, the engine was easily restarted. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined the electrical wires along the engine were mounted incorrectly and had worn into. the electrical wires were replaced, but the engine stalling problem persisted. the manufacturer was alerted. updated 12/28/2006 - whike driving at speeds of 5 - 60 mph all the dasj lights would flash on and off and the vehicle would loose power. so far the dealer has replaced the crank sensor due to wear, front control module. *nm
Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the dashboard lights illuminated. the vehicle was driven to the dealer who replaced an o-ring.*ak
2005 jeep grand cherokee stops for no reason leaving no control of power steering and power brakes. have sent back to jeep dealer twice to try to alleviate problem. *jb
2005 jeep grand cherokee - ~21,000 miles on vehicle. the instrument cluster/gauges will randomly all light up at once, then go off one at a time as i am driving on the road. the speedometer, at the same time will go to 0 then will seem to 'reboot' and go back to the correct speed. again, all of this will happen randomly as i travel on the highways. i have taken this vehicle in 3 times to the westgate chrysler jeep dealership in raleigh, nc, and it has still not been corrected!! on the first trip, they just flashed the computer and sent me on my way. on the second trip there, the flashing happened to the technician so they replaced the junction box and said that should do it...but the problem still occurs. on the 3rd trip, they just hooked up the computer and said everything was fine. they called the chrysler technical service and they told them to just wait until it happens again...then bring it in?? it happens at random times, so it's difficult to 'just bring it in'. my jeep has become unsafe to drive at this point! when the instrument cluster goes blank while i'm driving, it becomes a hazard to me and my family. i have contacted chrysler, but i have only received an automated reply. they are not helping me with this serious issue. i've searched the internet with people who have had similar problems, and the solutions range from bad fuses, to corrosion in the connectors, relays, etc. i don't want to take this in to westgate as they appear useless and don't want to do any detective work. please help me remedy this serious electrical issue. *jb
Dt*: the contact stated without incident, the driver and passenger side windows cracked. the vehicle was taken to the dealership for the driver side window and the window was replaced. also while traveling 55 mph, the electrical system shut down. the vehicle was pulled over and turned off. it was restarted and was taken to the dealership, who was unable to determine the problem.
Dt*: the contact stated the illumination of the instrument panel flickered and failed on three separate occasions. the service brake warning light illuminated each time. on two of those occasions, the brake pedal went mushy, but began operating after the brake pedal was pumped several times. the headlights failed to illuminate on the last occasion while traveling 45 mph. the vehicle was returned to the service dealer three different times for service, but the problems continued. the manufacturer sent an engineer to inspect the vehicle.
On 9/1/06 while on vacation driving in stop and go traffic on california freeway, vehicle lost brakes and steering while vehicle in motion. i was able to pull off to side of freeway. turned car off and restarted and took to closest dealership. they hooked up to computer and found 3 error codes that they did no recognize. because of holiday weekend no one was available to look at the car until tuesday 9/5/06. this left me with extra expense because i had to rent a car for the duration of my vacation and had to stay an extra day for car. dealership contacted chrysler and they instructed them to reprogram computer and drive and re-test. no error codes reappeared and gave me my car back. while driving back home from california on 9/5/06 car engine shut off while at stop light. again had to turn off to get restarted. took into local dealership in hometown next day and they could not find anything wrong after having car for a day. again on 9/18/06 while driving out of parking structure, car engine again shut off. luckily, i did not hit anyone or anything. taking back to dealership again. *jb

I own a 2005 jeep grand cherokee that has 2 specific problems that i have taken to the dealership numerous times with no resolution. jeep claims they do not know what the problem is and/or can not duplicate the problem to fix. no error codes etc however if someone would just read the jeep forums they will see this is a "nationwide" issue that is very dangerous with hundreds of near miss accidents. her first issue with my jeep is when coming to a stop or sitting idle with the car in drive the engine just shuts off. of the 8 to 10 times this has happen, twice the car did not want to start up again. we had to give the car about 5 mins and then it started right up. dealer found some "random" error codes that we were told had nothing to do with the issue we were having. at the third time we too the jeep to the dealer they changed a senor and replaced the transmission filter and fluid. the problem continued and on the fourth trip to dealership they updated the software per jeep in detroit. still not fixed and the dealer ship is telling me there is nothing they can do. issue continues to happen. after the dealer ship installed the new software, the second issue started. this issue is the most dangerous and will result in a lawsuit if not fixed. when driving at really any normal speed the car will act as if i the driver am hitting the brakes really hard. not hard enough to lock the wheels but hard enough to leave a seat belt redness on my neck from being slug forward. when this happens the red brake like and yellow abs light comes on. the issue happens for about 3 seconds and the car just regroups and keeps going. we have lost count of this issue buy my guess is this has happened about 15 times. on the last 3-5 times when the car locks up it turns off the radio when in the past this did not happen. issue seems to be adding more problems as time goes on. jeep needs to read the forums. *nm
Jeep about had the one the airbag light comes on, i take it to the dealer where i purchased the seat buckle, a year later light goes on,i take it back to the dealer and they replace the buckle again. 6 months later light goes back on the warranty had just past but the dealer fixed it again. 6 months later the light goes back on and i go back to the dealer and they went out of business, i took it to another dealer and told them what happened they charged me $150.00 to tell me that i had to replace the entire seat belt harness, i already new that. so i just kept diving it, around 2011 the lights and all gauges started to go out as i was driving no gauges at all no break light no headlights, everything just blinks for a few min, than back to normal, i went on line to see how big the problem was and there is a lot of people that is having the same problem. i took it to the dealer and they told me that it could be a lot of things, i told them it was the ignition, while driving if i hold on the key in the ignition and move it around all the gauges and lights start to flash. i told that to the dealer and they told me that it would cost me to look into it and try to fix it, in know its the ignition one day while i am driving at night my lights are going to turn off or even the engine and get into an accident. there is a big problem with the 2005 jeeps and chrysler does not want to do a recall. *tr
