My 2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo (3.7 liter v6) has about 78,500 miles. in 2018 my jeep had an engine service soon light incident. i had the obdii read by o'reilly auto parts for the failure codes. the codes downloaded were u0404 & p0700. i went to my mechanic and he stated, 'drive it for a while and it should go away', he was right - the failure code (dash light) went away. now, feb. 7, 2020 my engine service light went on. again i went to o'reilly auto part to have the obdii error codes read. again, the error codes came up u0404 & p0700. i did some research (on the web) and found a youtube video that addressed these two exact failure codes. please see the youtube video, web address, below that explains the failure and repair. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yd71knuo2au this video clearly shows the reason for these two error codes. the shifting console printed circuit board (pcb) has allowed (over time) the transfer of material between the different drive selection points (drive, reverse, park) on the pcb to be short circuited (bridged) causing a false signal to the other control devices. this is not listed as a serviceable item by jeep. as a result jeep is responsible for this failure because they do not state that this is a service preventable failure. thank you for considering my complaint.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 40 mph and exiting a freeway, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal; however, the vehicle failed to exceed 15 mph. the contact veered to the shoulder of the road and managed to drive at low speeds to an independent mechanic. the mechanic diagnosed the vehicle, but was unable to duplicate the failure. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to jim koestner inc (218 n main st, plainwell, mi 49080, (269) 685-6854) to be diagnosed again, but the failure could not be duplicated. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 13v175000 (power train, electrical system). the manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 131,000.

The warning to "service 4wheeldrive" is on and has now on it's own engaged 4lo and will not disengage at all

First off the transmission wasn't shifting right. i was like it was getting stuck in 2nd gear or something. the rpms were raising high before it was shifting. then my check engine came on, took it in to get a the code read code was p0700 and p0562 and p0750 so we changed the battery, the throttle body and had the transmission fluid and filters changed. still same problem. check engine light is still on with the same code . took it to a transmission shop they said it is the solenoid pack. now i have read a lot of the jeep chrysler forums and a whole lot of these jeeps have had the same issue with the transmission. so i want to know how you can sell such an expensive vehicle with so many transmission issues. and why there has not been a recall on these transmissions. this is a big safety issue!! i think you need to fix or replace the transmissions in these jeeps!! a recall should be done asap on these transmissions!!! i am extremely disappointed in chrysler, dodge and jeep. i have not seen a recall as of yet on these transmissions. yet there are so many people who have the same issues with these transmissions. i called chrysler and they said there were no recalls yet on this transmission. i expect a call or email about this concern asap. thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

When driving or sitting stationary all lights and gauges go out on the dash board. was told it was the ignition switch. i had the ignition switch recall performed. vehicle still randomly has the same issue. fm radio very bad reception. numerous postings on internet about both of these issues.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while the vehicle was idling, it overheated. additionally, while driving at unknown speeds, the temperature gauge increased to hot and the vehicle overheated and failed to start. also, there was an abnormal burning odor in the vehicle and smoke appeared from underneath the hood. the "transmission overheating" message was also displayed. the contact called piedmont chrysler jeep dodge (4015 clemson blvd, anderson, sc 29621, (864) 260-5750) and was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v396000 (power train). the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 247,000.

While driving the vehicle i receive a message on the info center displaying "transmission over temp" the fan kicks on high and the vehicle will not go faster than 25mph. i have to pull over, turn the vehicle off, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on and it goes away. had my vehicle at the transmission shop and had it thoroughly looked through and the pcm is to blame. it is very common on these vehicles. i feel it is a saftey concern due to the "transmission over temp" displaying every couple of miles as i drive. calling chrysler directly to ask of the problem and they were very rude and hung up on me. not happy!!

Will go into 3rd gear when it is started and has to be turned off and restarted before it will go into drive. also it shows a code of " service 4x drive" at random times.

The jeep will randomly not want to begin driving after putting into drive from a stationary position and then you will hear and feel a loud "thump" and the transmission gets stuck in 3rd gear. most of the time i can turn the car off and back on to fix it but sometimes it doesnt work that easily. this happens at least 2-3 times per week.

Transmission stuck in 3rd gear while driving down the road.

September/october of 2017 as i was driving home on the parkway my vehicle was not picking up speed. no power so had to pull over to the side of road and the drove to pep boys to have the mechanics take a look at it. was in the shop for about a week.

Been waiting sometime for the dealer to get his part for my recall in addition to this the transmission seems to be smoking and the motor is running erratic i believe this is a big piece of junk and government should buy back. the jeep was a biggest lemon ever. was driving it from yogurtland was driving it from yogurtland only a few miles away on the way back it was smoking like a freight train the tranny was slipping in the motor is running erratic

I stop the transmission start like slide and then 3 to four minutes a lot of smoke on my hood i stop open the hood it was oil everyware i was scare i think my charokee got flames so run to a house

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle did not go into four wheel drive whenever the "service four wheel drive system" warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the final drive control module was "flashed". the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and ordered the dealer to recheck the remedy. the dealer wanted to perform a diagnostic evaluation, but not for free. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

While driving my jeep randomly shifts into neutral so i need to pull off the road and put into park then back into gear, and i just got a recall notice for the ignition switch.

2005 jeep grand cherokee. seems to be there's electrical issue all the dash lights would turn on turn off happened while i was driving on the freeway and had to come to a stop it stalled out it happened when i started up the car and i turned it off and took it to the shop two different times pretty much the same problem first time it has 68 codes reading off of it so they replace my battery the second time the lights will come on and go off and come on and then it wouldn't even go it was undriveable at that point so we took it to the shop and then a month later it's starting all over again i was driving down the road came to a stop light plied the brakes and then all of the sudden the gauges were going crazy. the idol was moving up and down the lights would come on and go off and it's all the lights not just air bag or anything like that it was all the lights. i read on the internet other people been having the same issue it's scary when somebody is explaining the same thing that's going on in your car. it is unknown at this time what this phantom problem is and it's highly dangerous. i also bought this jeep used and don't know it this was happening beforehand. *have a video but this site won't upload it.

2005 jeep grand cherokee v8 w/hemi. took the jeep to a dealership for repairs for stalling. they detected a leak from the ac unit and a seal that was letting the water enter the transmission they flushed it refilled it. look that recalls found a recall number e-13 on a 2005 jeep grand cherokee that stated the same thing cept for if the torque converter is compromised it would be replaced. call the chrysler number offered on the website and ask them if there was anything they could do they stated no there was nothing they could do so it's going to be an expense to me because it wasn't stated for the v8 engine it was only stated for the 3.7 liter engine. this is very troubling because if they didn't detect that and the other vehicles then obviously it's going to cause an accident or something to happen when you lose power throughout your vehicle especially when you're on the highway or even a busy road. i stated to them it is word for word and what was wrong with my car and they still. and being on disability at the moment and trying to pay for these repairs and still paying the car off is very difficult. i would like this issue to be resolved by the chrysler. if they neglected to see any issues in the v8 model that occurred in the 3.7 liter engine model there will probably be lawsuits against them. it is frustrating that this is happening and they can't help a jeep owner out probably will never bite you again. let's just hope my engine don't catch on fire either. being afraid to drive a car is not ok expecially when it's the only car you have and you can't afford to repair or buy a new one cuz you're on disability.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving various speeds, the vehicle shook violently and hesitated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 280,000.

Unintended power roll-away in reverse after parking jeep grande cherokee 6cly. vehicle engine running and in park. driver opened door to exit and vehicle began to travel backward under power of engine on level surface. the open door knocked driver down on flat concrete carport and left front wheel ran over driver in the process. 76 yr old woman - breaking her legs and head injury. the event was witnessed by husband who jumped in car to stop it by cutting engine off and returning shift lever to park. vehicle was stationary on flat concrete car port of home. my research took me to nhtsa odi resume ea0-017 opened 11-1-01. vehicle was in recall until 2004 for the very problem describe above.

My jeep jumps to third gear randomly, and it ends up jittering and shaking. my car got stuck so many times and ended up being stalled on a busy highway and almost got into an accident. i was once parked and had shifted to drive but instead the jeep suddenly jumped to 3rd and my car started to go backwards and ended up hitting another car behind me. i had to pay the guy $500 and also got all the fluids and oils changed in hopes of getting this fixed, but to no avail. yesterday, i spent $450 on these fluid and oil changes only to have the problem continue. thousands of people are having the same issues and jeep has no answers. you guys need to do a total vehicle recall since jeep has no answers. many people can die from this defect. i have a video to prove the car jumping to third and all the issues i just described.

Takata recall i purchased a jeep for 7,500. put 3,000 down and financed the rest. next day, the axle boot was broke. took it back to the dealer and they replaced it. at that time, i realized they gave me a 29% finance rate. so i bought they vehcile right out by writing a check for $4890. with asking if the vehcile had any major issues or been in the shop for any serious engine or transmission work, i was promised the vehcile was in good standing condition. next day, with my fiance and my 20 month old son in the newly purchased vehcile, headed out for a vacation. about 10 mins from our home and the axle they just replacedon't broke and the transmission went. the vehcile had no emergency brakes and no hear, not even park. i had to pull into a person's yard and do donuts until it stopped. got it towed home and called the bank and cancelled the check. now the have towed the vehcile away and say i write bad checks. yet i have paperwork from the bank supporting my cancellation on the check and record of funds to purchase the vehcile. seeking legal advice now. i did purchase "as is"....yet, that doesn't uphold to fraud and warranty of mechanism on the vehcile.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while the vehicle was parked on an incline, it began to roll backwards. the vehicle crashed into the bay and became submerged under water. the vehicle was towed to an independent towing lot. a police report was not filed and there were no injuries. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system, power train). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo with 3.7 liter motor shows all four gears park neutral reverse and drive "prnd" active at the same time and the check engine obdii code u0103 (can bus communication lost with the shifter). this condition reoccurs every 1 to 7 days approximately. while in this mode the vehicle is in limp mode stuck in 2nd gear. i tried to drive it to the dealership twice with this condition on back roads but it will clear after driving for about 5 miles in limp mode. i had the vehicle towed to the jeep dealership with this condition present. it cleared while they were trying to diagnose problem and they couldn't get it to repeat while driving it with my permission for three weeks. they were unable to diagnose the problem and no repairs were made. i got my vehicle back after three weeks at dealeship and problem reoccurred after two days of driving. trying to drive this vehicle in limp mode is very dangerous as you cannot exceed about 30 miles per hour causing dangerous conditions to myself and other drivers on roads with speed limits higher than 30 mph. this is a serious safety issue and the dealership can't diagnose the problem. in the meantime i am stuck with a very unsafe vehicle

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while attempting to shift from park to reverse, the contact heard an abnormal noise. afterwards, the gear selector illuminated all of the gear options and the check engine indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the failure codes were read and the contact was informed of a recall directly related to the issue. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v240000 (power train). the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 143,517.

While driving the vehicle in drive it slips into gear 3 by itself and when i attempt to accelerate its in limp mode. i always have to pull to the side and shut the vehicle on and restart it several times before it actually shift the ( d ) drive.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while the vehicle was being repaired for nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system), the dealer also remedied nhtsa campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system, power train). after the recall repairs were completed, the vehicle experienced a failure with the transfer case changing gears to an improper gear while driving. prior to the repairs, the vehicle operated as intended. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the transmission module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 190,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v438000 (electrical system) and 13v175000 (electrical system, power train). the parts needed to repair the vehicle were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.

Transmission oil turned milky and vehicle would not move. after servicing transmission vehicle now will not engage into park, stays in reverse. vehicle was parked when it would not move from parking spot but, after trans fluid was changed and trans serviced when you go to park it and put the shifter into park the vehicle moves in revers.

Vehicle will not shift into correct gear when accelerating from a dead stop. tops out at 3,000 rpms at 60mph. this is an intermittent problem. but will at least happen 2 times a day. when it happens you have to pull over and shut off the engine off and restart. this most likely will fix the problem. this is very dangerous when in traffic. this typically happens when you stop at a traffic light and start to take off. i had the censers changed in the transmission but didn't fix the problem. the vehicle has less than 100,000 miles on it. it is getting worse every day know.

Transfer case malfunction part is unavailable to buy. this seems to be a widespread complaint for my make model vehicle. service 4 wheel drive system shows up in the computer screen to warn you of the problem vehicle will not shift into 4 wheel drive low. appears to be a faulty gearing or electrical transfer motor

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle decelerated and the brake pedal failed to respond when depressed. in order to come to a stop, the vehicle was driven up an incline. the brakes were engaged and the vehicle rolled backwards and crashed into a tree. there were no injuries and a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 237,000.

To this day my 4 wheel drive has not worked and the dealer that i took it to just said that this wasn't covered under the recall, i think they still got paid by doing nothing to it and now i get another recall for something i haven't had problems which then i'll take it in for them to do nothing to it and still get paid for fixing nothing, what i would really want is for them to fix my 4 wheel drive, i could never get it to work when i needed to use it in the snow, it would just keep sliding and would never change to 4 wheel drive, thank you. *tr

2005 jeep grand cherokee. consumer writes in regards to check engine and brake system warning light stays on, vehicle starts then locks up, replacement of the right rear speed sensor and four wheel drive motor. *smd

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle independently shifted into third gear. as a result, the rpm gauge and speedometer increased abnormally. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was pulled to the side of the road and restarted; however, the failure recurred. prior to the failure, the vehicle was remedied under nhtsa campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system, power train). the vehicle was returned to dealer and they attempted to reflash the final drive controller again; however, the failure recurred more severely. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 180,000. updated 06/14/16*lj

A few weeks/months after the purchase of my jeep about 2 years ago, i noticed that my cruise control had stopped working and the abs light had come. i checked my fuses and relays and they were ok. then a day or so later i was driving on the interstate and my check engine light and my brake lights came on. my jeep then seemed to downshifted itself. it felt as if the transmission had locked up, it slowed to about 30mph and would not shift onto another gear. i pulled over killed the motor. after a few attempts to drive it, i turned the key over and noticed the break and engine lights were off so i attempted to drive home and was sucessfull. this started to happen more and more often. i noticed that it mainly happened when either i was running my ac or it was wet/raining outside. i then started researching jeep problems and recalls. i came across the daminoncrysler recall no. 13. the recall had described the issue i was having, so i researched my vin and it staled that the recall no. 13 has already been completed on jeep. now my jeep is stuck in limp mode and will not reset. it will not shift and the abs, brake and engine lights stay on. is there a way to find out exactly what service did they did when it was recalled in 2005 (if any)? i dont know what to do

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at approximately 5 mph and making a left turn, all of the warning lights turned on intermittently and the heat turned on and off intermittently. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to an independent dealer where it was diagnosed that the communication was lost to the final drive controller module and the century key immobilizer module needed to be repaired. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v438000 and 13v175000 (electrical system, power train). the approximate failure mileage was 122,000. updated 6/4/15*cn updated 10/11/2017*cn

I was driving down a local freeway. had just merged on and began to accelerate. once reaching 65 mph the vehicle felt liken it slammed on the brakes while my foot was on the accelerator. only lasted for a second then returned to normal. 1/3 mile later is happened again. it has been going on for about a week now. have come to realize that it is most likely a torque converter or transmission. there is recalls on the vehicle for ignition also. which chrysler has yet to resolve. have they really fixed the transmission issue on this vehicle? or not? this vehicle apparently has caused many people problems and i myself have had two of these exact jeeps. both have been complete catastrophes. this problem is very scary and very unsafe for any driver. i have no money to fix the problem nor will the dealer or chrysler help with the issue. i hope you can somehow help me. i'm begging you. please do something about this. so everyone can have a safe experience on the roadways. *tr

Was notified by service dept. that the crossmember of the frame that supports the transmission was cracked /broken due to excessive rust and needs to be replaced cost=$800.00 seems unusual at this time&mileage. thank you *tr

After receiving n23 recall software update, when attempting to engage 4wd low in a low traction situation, the transfer case motor would not shift due to damages resulting from the software change. the software update was issues to bypass problems occurring from an often damaged part, rather than repairing or replacing the part itself. because if this, the software change has negatively affected numerous vehicles 4wd low capabilities, rendering them useless in emergency situations. *tr
