We have classified the 637 complaints from 2006 Jeep Commander about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
The interior electrical lighting systems often goes out while driving in below freezing temperatures. this includes all speedometer, tachometer, and dash lights for all controls. this has been a problem since i purchased the vehicle new in february 2007. after five years, the led lights illuminating the switches for the fan speed, temperature control, and heated seats. i reported this under warranty but now i am told i am responsible for repair. the dealership cannot find the electrical fault. the led switch bulbs cannot simply be replaced as the entire unit for each control must be replaced. the engine was making a pinging sound and the dealership diagnosed it wrong 3 times. this should have been repaired under warranty when first reported. many months later after warranty lapsed the dealership's corrective fix was replacing one side of the engine's hydraulic lifters. this made the problem a bit better but did not resolve it. *tr
Vehicle stalls at random times at random speeds, sometimes while sitting at a stoplight, other times while accelerating , and also while just cruising at freeway speeds. several times i have lost all power to engine, steering and electronics(lights, gauges radio), and a few times i have only lost power to my electronics and then they kick back on like nothing happened..this is a serious problem that is wide spread throughout the jeep commander community, i seriously see some lawsuits in the near future due to the accidents this is going to cause...im a second owner of mine and have had it for about 3 months with no problems, then within the last week it has died at least once a day...thank god im still under warranty. i am going to the dealer tomorrow, they hope that replacing the ignition module is going to fix it..we'll see. *tr
December 2007 - my 06 jeep commander started with electrical issues. everytime, i would hear a click, than all the lights in my dash go off, than back on.. since then it's done this several times, along with a small puddle of water in my right passenger side. i've brought the vehicle to the dealer and they've done everything but look or fix the problem. they've replace sinoids and shifters (all under warranty) but nothing having to do with the electrical. my vehicle has never stalled, but lately this electrical issue is happening more than ever. my dealer has told me they can't do anything more and to file lemon law ~ this was checked into but because i'm over my mileage i can't really do much. the worst part about this whole mess is i bought this vehicle to feel safe, and now i feel that this is the worst car on the road. chrsyler should not be leaving there customers out to dry if this problem exists in so many of the same. take some responsibility.. we gave you our money.. give us what we paid for! *tr
November 24 evening leaving fuji (children in car) november 30 morning on way to work ? hit mailbox (baby in car) december 5 morning on way to work ? dies turning out of subdivision and stalls in middle of street (baby in car) there was one other instance when i had all kids with me?it was prior to nov 24 but i do not recall the actual date all of the instances the engine stalled, the lights (when on) went out, i lost the ability to steer and brake as well. the mph ranged from 4 or 5 mph to 35 mph. there were times when it was warm and days that it was cold. nothing seemed to standout as a possible "trigger" i took car to dealer after the november 24th incident. tony in the service department said there was really nothing that they could do unless it was a problem they could "make happen" when they drove it. a few days later i wrecked into a mailbox when my jeep stalled and i lost steering and braking capability....i am lucky it was not head on with a large truck or a tree. *tr
Three times i experienced power loss while driving my 2006 jeep commander, 4x4. the first time -- i turned the ignition to start the jeep and it didn't kick over right away, all the warning lights lit up simultaneously, then randomly and at varying lengths of time went out. the dash lights and the radio were turning on and off. weird, i shut it off and waited about 2 minutes. i started it again and everything seemed ok (except the airbag light remained on). as i was pulling out of the parking lot onto the main road, the dashboard lit up again, flashing on and off as before, and then a clunk-jerk -- no power steering, no power brakes, lights still going crazy. luckily i was able to coast into another parking lot, stop safely. i turned it off, waited 5 minutes, then it started and i made it home without incident (airbag light still lingered for a while). two and a half weeks later, as i was leaving my house (so i was going slow) the dashboard started the same flashing routine as before. i shut the jeep off immediately, waited about 2 minutes and re-started. no further problems but the airbag light lingered a few minutes as before. the third incident (october 29th), i was driving along the main road about 40 mhp on a straight smooth section when all the warning lights began flashing on/off (oh, no!). at the first opportunity i turned off the main road and kept driving slowly to my garage. i made it there without losing the steering/brakes, lights flashing the whole way. i am scared to drive it now. the dealer is unable to re-create the problem, their only solution was to call the manufacturer, who suggests that i remove the other three keys from my keyring because their weight must be causing the highly-sensitive ignition tumbler to toggle to accessory mode. uuuuugggghhhhhh. i am not comfortable with this explanation. i am still afraid to drive this vehicle. what should i do? *tr
My wife's jeep completely shut down while going 45 miles an hour and she went off of the road. this happened less than a month after we took it to the jeep dealership to have fixed. they said as im sure every one who has put in an apparent useless complaint that " no errors are coming up and there doesn't seem to be a problem. " what bothers me the most about this is that jeep has not issued any statement after the countless complaints keep filing in. just because no error message is coming up when it is plugged in doesn't mean these hundreds of jeep commander owners are lying about what is happening. i have another appointment tomorrow. this exercise is getting old . it should not have to take a death from some one driving these vehicles to have chrysler do something about this . i have read many of these complaints that other concerned drivers have put in. apparently this site doesn't get chrslers attention . *jb
I own a 2006 jeep commander. it started stalling on me in feb or 07. since then it has stalled 20 times or more. it was at the dealers many of time with me in a rental car for periods of over 2 months at a time. they have yet to find out what the problem is with my jeep. it was labeled a lemon by chrysler but they wanted to charge me an outrageous amount for use on the car. i don't feel for safety reasons this car should even be on the road. i have told chrysler if anything happens to me or my children in the car when it stalls they are 100% liable. this car is unsafe. it will stall just driving down the road. i have had my stall with no warning on are local hwy here i90. very unsafe this auto is. i want my money back or a replacement with out all the penalties. this is just stupid i have been dealing with this since feb 07 and i am tired of it. i bought the car to drive not have it in the shop be making the payments on it and when i do have it fear for my family's and my own safety in the car. *jb
Since purchasing our commander in early 2006, we have experienced no less than 12 incidents of stalling. the vehicle stalled at a complete stop, as well as while driving at approximately 50-65 mpm. we also have experienced extremely sluggish acceleration at highway speed, both situations placing us at in danger of a collision. finally, when conducting hard turns (similar to a u-turn), the engine will sputter and barely accelerate in traffic situations, several times nearly resulting in a collision. *jb
This has happened on more then one occasion. the 1st couple of times the check engine light was one, it took 2 times there and they replaced the modular. after that that was taken care of but then while driving down the street all the instrument lights on the panel came on and all gauges went to zero. the second time this happened, i was driving to work going about 35 miles per hour, again all lights on instrument panel came on and the jeep stalled causing my wheels to lock and my steering to not work, i had to skid off the side of the road, thank goodness no one was behind me. i started my jeep a couple minutes later and the check engine light and all gauges were still at zero and frightened, i was able to drive home through the neighborhood. i took it to the dealership which was there a day because they knew i was furious at this time because i could have caused an accident causing injury to myself and other drivers, i then got it back and was driving home again thank goodness not on the freeway and it happened again. i took it back to the dealer who told me there is nothing that can be done because nothing is being detected on the chip so they can not fix it, they advised me to just drive it and keep a log of the pattern to help them determine the cause. i called the service manager and told him that i have a huge problem with them asking me to drive this for a pattern and causing a potentionally fatal accident to get a pattern which they already know had done this before, the service manger is having the service writer drive my jeep and has been so for almost a week now. i can't believe that this issue is not being taken serious, i could have caused a very very serious accident on the freeway and more so when it starts to snow. i do not feel safe in this vehicle, not only for myself buy other's on the road. this is something that needs to be taken care of now before someone loses there life. *tr
2006 jeep commander stalls and dies while driving and idling. *jb
I have a 2006 jeep commander with only 13,000 miles on it and it has stalled twice while driving. dealership has seen it once and reloaded computer software to see if that fixes the problem. the second time occurred after that so it's being taken back to the dealership for review. i am nervous about the safety of my family/children. *jb
Jeep commander stalls at slow speeds when coming to a stop. started to pull into traffic and had no power. this could be a fatal problem if this happens in busy traffic. please investigate this! i have heard and read story after story of this same problem happening to other jeep commander owners. *jb
2006 3.7 v6 jeep commander continuously hesitates and / or stalls when coming to a stop and several times at highway speed. *jb
I purchased my 2006 jeep commander in oct. 2005 from mccune chrysler jeep in national city, ca. initially, i started noticing my brakes shimmying as i came to a stop. i reported to my dealership a few times but no good came out of it. then, last thursday, sept. 13, i noticed my dashboard lights (electrical system, brakes and transmission lights) flashing on and off as i accelerated from a stop and headed uphill. it felt as though the jeep wanted to stop and go at the same time. i reported it to my dealership and brought in the vehicle the next week. the dealership quoted me $190 to analyze it (since my jeep was about 8,000 miles beyond the warranty period). then, they told me that it would cost me over $400 to repair the vehicle even though they did not know what was wrong with it. i began to research the internet about recalls on this make and model and found that chrysler had issued a recall on friday, sept. 14, 2007. i printed the article and brought it to my service rep at mccune. the rep insisted that it was not my problem and that his dealership had not heard of a recall on my make and model. so, i called chrysler's customer service department in oak ridge, tn. the representatives there insisted that there was no recall. frustrated, i accepted the dealerships offer to repair my vehicle. they quoted me a $100 deductible to place the vehicle under warranty. as i drove off, the same thing happened all over again. i called the service advisor and explained what had happened. he insisted that he test drove the vehicle and the lights never came on. i didn't believe him. i feel that he mislead me and that his dealership never repaired my vehicle. i will bring my vehicle back to mccune monday morning (9/24/07) and i will see what will happen. i paid for a rental vehicle last week (over $100 and the dealership never offered to cover my expenses. i am so frustrated. *tr
While stopped at a stop light on 4 different occasions over a period of 2 weeks, the vehicle lost total electrical power and engine shut off by it self. the 2006 jeep commander restarted immediately after putting in park and turning ignition. the jeep was brought into the jeep service center on 9-11-2007. service tech said that they had similar problem with another jeep commander in the service center and could not figure out the problem. per the service tech no error messages were reported. they called chrysler who told them to do a pcm reflash install per star. the car has stalled again since then. *jb
Since the beginning of ownership, this car has stalled many times (as well as other various and odd electrical problems.) many times i can turn the car off and on and it will restart. this does happen in parking lots and highway speeds as well. i have also lost power steering and brakes when in parking lots at a very slow acceleration speed. i have also had air bag warning lights go on and stay on then randomly shut off. the dealer has tried to help resolve but is limited by chrysler's ability to recognize that there is a problem. if there is no code in the cars computer, there is no problem and can't be duplicated. if the problem can't be duplicated, there is no repair. but it keeps happening over and over. i have filed a complaint with chrysler with no resolve. the dealership has had my car and drove it for 3 weeks to try to duplicate the problem. since it is so random and they just didn't get enough time/miles in, the problem didn't happen. it stalled again about 3 weeks after that pulling out of my driveway. there has been no repair, because chrysler says there is no problem. i have been in the middle of an intersection with a 15 year old on a permit driving with oncoming traffic. i have had this car since march 2006 and this has been occurring many times repeatedly since then. not all have been documented and because it occasionally happens on weekends or holidays, i have no ability to get it in to a dealership. in order for them to be able to read a code, i would have to leave the car in a stalled position wherever it occurred and have it towed directly to the dealer. this is highly impractical and unsafe. especially scary at high speeds on the highway. i do not want to be a casualty of chrysler's failure to recognize that there are thousands of these vehicles out there doing this exact same thing. do a "google" search see the #'s! something needs to be done!!! *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving and making a turn at approximately 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. after restarting, the vehicle resumed normal operation. the failure recurred six times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was unable to be determined. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to perform the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 1,000.
Car stalls on the highway. have to rent a car until the dealership can figure out the problem. was initially told that it was a powertrain issue and a new computer was put in but it still sits at the dealership because no one knows what is wrong with it.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact started the ignition and the entire instrument panel began to illuminate intermittently. the failure also occurred whenever driving at various speeds. the vehicle was taken to both an authorized dealer and an independent auto mechanic for diagnosis numerous times. the technicians were unable to determine cause of failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 5.
Commander started to have dash problems, such as transmission light s would surround all be circled or boxed with a square light so i would not know what was going on in 2007 this went on for years. i would pull over and stop put the jeep in park or try to put back into drive but it would really be in neutral and then it would jump into drive or 1st or 2nd and could not get back out unless i turned vehicle off then i would be lucky to get the vehicle to go into gear, and when it would go into get it would jump and make a loud noise and scare the pants off of me. then the vehicle would run like knew for a few weeks with no problems and then same conditions applied, could go for months, or a year and then same conditions happened again. if i took the problem to a jeep dealer they would say it would have to be having problem in order for them to diagnose. the chrysler would not pay for my recalled commander 2006, even though i had already had a jeep dealership in bloomington mn., fix the condition on 12/21/12. i also had the same problem 0n 8/8/2012 in cloquet mn.., and at stillwater motors 06/30/07, all jeep dealerships chrysler call center said, once the recall came out chrysler said i am out of luck. my jeep commander was jumping into gear any gear and is the same problem they are reporting. please help me access my recall so i can recover my funds. chrysler, has on 3 calls said my 2006 commander is not on their list. *tr
1) driving on the interstate with the cruise control on; brake was applied to disengage the cruise control. 2) headlights shut off, speedometer and tachometer and fuel gauge shut off; a moment after, the tires locked up and the vehicle spun 180 degrees, then collided with a guard rail and bounced off and returned to the interstate in oncoming traffic facing the wrong way 3) independent inspector was hired by chrysler; the report found no mechanical defect nor did it find any computer codes that would indicate a malfunction; chrysler denies there is a problem and recommended we contact our insurance company for repairs. *jb
I have had numerous issues with my 2006 jeep commander stalling on me. i have had it serviced three times for the same issue and each time i am told that the problem can not be duplicated and no action was taken. most recently the vehicle stalled on me in stop and go rush hour traffic on the freeway. i no longer feel safe driving this car. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. when the contact started the vehicle, the headlights and instrument panel gauges would not illuminate. he stated that the instrument panel gauges failed to work as well. when the steering wheel was turned in either direction without applying the brakes, the abs would engage and the vehicle decelerated. the contact felt the pulsating vibration through the steering wheel and heard the abs engage. the failure occurred while driving 25 mph and greater. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they were unable to duplicate the failure, however, they reset the codes in the vehicle. two weeks later, while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to a different dealer and they replaced the remote start module. the contact also stated that the check engine and four wheel drive lights would often illuminate and dim automatically. the current and failure mileages were 20,000.
My wife was driving at approximately at 35 mph when she made a right hand turn into a parking lot and the vehicle completely died. all power steering and brakes were lost, which nearly caused her to wreck into an on coming car. the dealership replaced an ignition switch as the only probably cause, but can not guarantee that this will not occur again. obviously this is not a fatality however this is something that could very easily lead to a serious accident. *tr
I have a 2006 jeep commander. i was driving my 7 year old son to camp. i was driving about 45 mph on a 2 lane road. suddenly and without any warning the engine, as well as all electrical items completely shut off. i also lost all assist functions. when i was applying the brakes i got the noise that usually you hear when the abs system has taken control. after pulling to the side of the road i restarted the car and the engine warning light came on. after dropping my son off i attempted to restart the car. i had no instrument panel functions (gas gauge, water temp, odometer, etc.). i will be taking the car in to the dealership on 7/5/2007 for analysis.

Not so much a complaint but a statement car died while driving down the road with cruise control on due to my knee striking the ignition key, turning it back to the accessory" position as i moved my foot from the accelerator pedal to flat on the floor. this was simply operator error on my part. i' read the other complaints on engine dying, and almost didn't purchase this vehicle due to those, but upon further investigation on my part i felt fairly sure reported problems could be operator error rather than an actual electrical issue. this was only my opinion buy based on my actual life experience, the car died while going on the road was due to my own action. i will note that i had zero problems controlling the car after the engine shut off. i simply steered over to the shoulder, put the car in park and restarted it. i probably could have just as easily put the car in neutral and restarted it while coasting on the road. if others get to voice their complaints on this issue i feel i should be allowed this statement on that same type of event so that consumers investigating this vehicle can make more of an informed decision about purchasing one. additionally, my solution to this problem was to simply move my seat back; i am 6'3" and i was simply unnecessarily crowding myself. i will also point out that we had just purchased this car 2 days ago, so still getting use to it.*ak
While driving under normal conditions the vehicle stalls. *ak
In the fifteen months i've owned the car (purchased new from a jeep dealer) it has been to the orig. dealer as well as a different dealer multiple times for electronic related issues. early on the car experienced trouble with the right front elect. passenger window operating improperly. then a series of incidents happened where the dash panel lights would come on and the car would stall. at times there was a noise from under the car. after stopping and restarting the car would run property for a period of time. then the incidents would happen again. the most troubling incident occurred when i was stopping at red light - depresed the brake pedal at low speed.... and the car kept rolling until it impacted the car in front. minor damage to both vehicles but scary as heck. informed the orig. dealer and they could find nothing. the incidents with the lights and the noise and other spooky elect problems - such as the middle hvac unit putting out heat while the front and rear put out cold.- prompted me to find a different dealer to take the car to. they (nalley here in atlanta) did a good job and updated some softwear and changed the ignition switch. that alleviated the problems for two weeks then the new ignition switch failed. the promplty replaced that as well even though it was quite a mystery to them. since then i have had two incidents where turning on the ignition switch failed to start the car - there was no response. allowed the car to sit for a minute then it started. *tr
- faulty instrumental panel and possible ignition problem. ignition would start, but panel would not turn on. the engine would not go over 30 mph while panel was off and brake system would not work. there were also loss of lights , including headlight, e
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly shut off. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the contact indicated that the notice for nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) was received in september of 2014. after contacting the dealer and manufacturer on multiple occasions, the contact was informed that the parts needed to repair the failure was not available and no estimated time for receiving the parts could be provided. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced the failure listed in the recall. the failure mileage was 1,000.
My wife was preparing to merge into traffic from a parking lot on a busy street in our hometown. in this particular parking lot there is a telephone pole near the egress portion of the parking lot. as she was pulling out the vehicle stalled, causing complete loss of control of steering and braking causing the vehicle to strike the telephone pole causing some damage to the jeep. we purchased this vehicle because we felt it would be safe for our family of 5, myself, my wife and my three young girls under the age of 8. i have lost all confidence in the safety of this vehicle and i refuse to put my family in jeopardy with this vehicle, this vehicle has done this many times before and the dealer can not find a fix. i have contacted an attorney and he has taken my case as a lemon law claim will be filed. this vehicle has had numerous other problems since the week we brought it home. i have always owned jeep, from cj's to cherokee and now the commander, i have always been happy with the jeep legacy but i have lost all faith in the new jeep. please help before someone gets killed in this jeep. *jb
My 2006 jeep commander (4.7 liter) constantly stalls and hesitates and the dealer keeps telling me they can't find anything wrong but there are hundreds of complaints online about the same thing and i want to know why this has not been recalled. also the third row seat belts seem to have a problem. *jb
My 2006 v8 jeep commander stalls at slow speeds. it will happen on average once a week. also, the right passenger window will sometimes not go up all the way and "ounce down.*ak
In the 5 years i have owned the 2006 jeep commander it has stalled while driving, stalled while parked. this happens at no set frequency. sometimes it happens daily, other times it will go for months and not happen. the dash lights repeatedly flash off and on. some dash lights don't work at all for months then like magic work fine for months. the vehicle sputters when accelerating all the time and at different speeds. if i am crossing or turining i need to make sure i have like 2 miles between me and oncoming traffic in case it decides to not work that time and i get stuck in the intersection. the cruise control no longer works. luckily the computer went out that controls the cruise so i can't use it. the cruise used to just speed up and slow down on its own. i will be driving along and all of a sudden without notice the car will floor itself and not stop until i put the car in neutral. regardless of what temperature i have the heater set to there is constantly extremely hot air blowing on my feet. i can not drive without shoes on or the hot air literally burns my feet. overall- there are some serious electrical and mechanical issues with the jeep commander. i googled jeep commander and there are hundreds (i am sure thousands) of similar complaints. *js
Jeep commander 2006 4x4 (my wife jennifer ivester on 1.28.2007) in drive going down the street 25 mph, she has foot on accelerator and the vehicle dies. full power and vehicle failure. vehicle was stranded in intersection with cars coming toward vehicle. all the cars slam on breaks. while this is happening vehicle is placed in neutral and ignition turn back on. she quickly maneuvered across the intersection and avoided an accident. she contacted dealer and setup appointment to look at vehicle on 1.30.2007. vehicle has 7k miles on it. my wife is certain that she didn't hit the ignition and cause the vehicle to loose power. i have investigated this occurrence on many jeep commander forums and this is happening to lots of folks. this incident should be investigated before something serious happens. regards, rodney ivester. *nm
Tl* - the contact called regarding a 2006 jeep commander, while driving 35 mph the vehicle lost power without any warnings. the vehicle restarted easily. the contact took the vehicle to daimlerchrysler dealer on 1/31/07 for a diagnosis. this will be the third stalling failure. the road conditions were wet once and dry on two occasions. the contact called daimler chrysler dealer when the vehicle stalled before, and was told it may have been bad gasoline. during the second incident the power steering and power brakes failed.*ak updated 03/13/07. *jb
This complaint is similar to odi 10178480. the odi 10181086 could also be possibly connected. the design and position of the ignition switch in 2006 jeep commander is such that a slight knee movement might turn the ignition off , resulting in lost of power and power steering. i have experienced this on three different occasions, most recent one while driving on highway i-5 in the left lane at 65 mph, with heavy traffic in the right lane. luckily enough i was able to slowly steer left onto unpaved median and stop and restart the vehicle. merging back from median into the left line was extremely dangerous. *jb
Tl* - the contact purchased a 2006 jeep commander. the contact's vehicle stalled on two occasions, the first while driving at 5 mph, and the second at 20 mph. the contact indicated the vehicle lost power while driving. at the time of the failure there were no warnings or indicator lightst. the contact was aware of several related complaints on the nhtsa website. the contact indicated the incidentwas erratic. the contact was very concerned about the safety risk involved, including the risk of a crash occurring without warning. *ak
We own a 2006 jeep commander which was having electrical problems. all of the dashboard lights, air conditioning, interior, and exterior lighting flashed off and on like an electrical surge. this happened usually once a day. it has been to the local jeep dealership four times for the same problem. they could not replicate the problem, so they stated that they could do nothing to repair it. this was a dangerous problem because it impaired one's driving ability. they will not write on the service report that we feel it is dangerous. they said that if we felt that way, then we shouldn't drive it. the first two times it was in for the electrical malfunction, they didn't write it up on the service reports because they couldn't replicate it. after the last trip to the repair shop (it is still sitting there) they told us that they will not accept it for service again for the same problem because then it would possibly fall under the lemon law. upon research into the problem, we saw the number of other complaints and even the open engineering review required by the odi. we spoke to a representative at daimler chrysler who was going to put us in contact with a case manager. they need to repair the problem before something more serious happens. we have fortunately not been involved in an accident due to the malfunction, but others have. the field in the bottom portion of the report will only accept numbers, so i will write here that it is an ongoing problem, happening on almost a daily basis.
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving at 10, 25, and 70 mph the vehicle failed without warning. the contact stated that the steering wheel locked, the instrument panel lights dimmed, and the radio continued to operate. after each failure, the vehicle would operate normally. currently, the failures were occurring more frequently and twice per week. the weather was not a factor. the current mileage is 27,800 , and failure mileage was 21,000.*ak
It started out that the car was acting up, every warning light was illuminated, the speedometer and tachometer were going all over the place (like they were bouncing). we took it in to the dealer and they said we would have to bring the car back in when it was still doing this, because they plugged it in to the computer and couldn't find anything wrong. so to the dismay of my wife we took the car back even though they couldn't find anything wrong with it. about a week later my wife was pulling into the mall (on the 29th of dec.), it was extremely busy, so the mall had flagmen out directing traffic. she was on a downhill ramp waiting for the flagmen to let her go. as she was sitting there stopped the instrument panel started going nuts again. at that moment her foot, which was on the brake went straight to the floor, she had lost all brake pressure in the pedal. as she was pumping the brakes she had to honk and wave to the flagmen that she couldn't stop and to move. she had traveled about a 100 feet and finally came to a stop when the car hit the one that was further downhill from her. we call reuther jeep and told them what had happened and they said to tow the car to their shop and they would give us a rental car. they told me to contact chrysler and have them do an investigation. they did they investigation (without driving the car) plugged it into the computer, and later told me that there was no problem with the car, and we should contact our insurance company. no other explanation was given. i did some searching online and found numerous instances where this seems to be a problem and falls in line with the recall that chrysler had recently done on the 64000+ cars. i don't want this car back, i don't feel it is safe and i fear for my wife and kids that are always in this car. we leased the vehicle i don't see why they should be able to make this right. i just want a safe vehicle for my wife and kids. *nm

I purchased my 2006 jeep commander in oct. 2005. first, my brakes would shimmy when i came to a stop. then, beginning sept. 13, i noticed my dash board lights flashing on and off as i accelerated after a stop and drove uphill. now, it doesn't matter if i am drivig the vehicle uphill or on level areas on the highways and freeways. it gets worse and worse everyday. on monday, sept. 17, i called tony mccune chrysler dodge jeep and arranged for an appointment to bring my vehicle for a check up. the dealership wanted to charge me $190 to analyze it. then, they called me in the afternoon and said it would cost me over $400 to repair the jeep eventhough they still did not know what was wrong with my vehicle. before i went in the next day, i surfed the internet and learned that chrysler was recalling my model for the conditions i explained above (malfunction of the computer system, which affects the braking system). the dealership insisted that my jeep was not part of the recall. calling chrysler in oak ridge, tn, i experienced the worst customer service from a representative who insisted there was no recall in place for my model. the dealership called me back and said that chrysler would extend my warranty (since it had already expired) if i would pay $100 deductible. ater i picked up my jeep and drive off, i noticed the same thing happening as i drove onto the freeway. i called the dealership and explained the situation. the representative (bruce) insisted that the it should have been repaired. i don't believe the dealership ever repaired my jeep. i am very concerned about the run-around i am receiving from jeep, chrysler and the local service reps. i am also gravely concerned for my family's safety in this vehicle. *tr
While driving the suv just shut off. not a stall but a complete electrical shutdown. all lights, gauges and engine shut off. this happened at approximately 35 mph on a long down grade. the car was brought to a stop in the roadway and upon placement into park, was able to be restarted. this situation nearly caused an accident as approaching cars saw no brake lights and the vehicle needed to come to a complete stop in the roadway to be restarted. currently this vehicle is at the dealer and no problem can be found. it has been road tested over 75 miles without additional failure. since this is the second electrical system issue with this vehicle, the safety of my family is a real concern. *jb
