I have 2006 jeep commander in which i am experiencing issues with the ignition switch on my vehicle. the defective ignition switch causes every light on my dashboard to illuminate and it causes my vehicle to stall, as well as flickering lights with no power to fuel gauges, mph, and rpm needles. after all the lights illuminate and go away the check engine light stays on, and the defective ignition switch drains my battery causing my vehicle to not start without a jump start by the next day. with a slight tap on the key it will move some or a bump in the road will make the ignition switch start acting up and make some of the previously described symptoms act up. occasionally there are clicks that come from the ignition switch after the vehicle has started, which signifies that the defective ignition switch is going to fail soon. i received the notification from the chrysler corporation about the recall and that my vehicle is included in it, but haven't received the second notice to this date about when the part would be available. i called in november to check and see what can be done but i was told the same thing that no parts are available. so this leaves me at the end of the road with this vehicle. i check online almost all the time for updates and still the same thing. i have been following this recall since it popped up in the news before i received notification from chrysler, because i have had this problem with my vehicle. i am scared for my life that the key will move into the wrong places disabling my car or when the ignition switch acts up it will make me loose control of my vehicle and it could be dangerous for me or any of my passengers even fatal. safety should be chryslers number one priority. at this point i hope to get rid of this car and move away from chrysler's products for good especially since fiat is running the show! *tr

I have had my 2006 jeep commander for a year and in that time period i have had a consistent problem. when i am driving the vehicle i will randomly lose power to the instrument panel, windows , windshield wipers and almost everything electrical. the engine will continue to run but if it happens at night i lose interior lights dash lights i can't see how fast i am going due to the panel not working. i have had it to the mechanic and he insists it has something to do with the ignition switch. i know a recall has been issued for a separate ignition problem but after reading online and seeing many other reports just like mine i,believe there is another issue to be handled. this problem is also making it impossible to get the vehicle inspected because when it acts up it cause the check engine light to come on and has to be reset. then before all sensors have reset it occurs again. i have spent a small fortune is gas trying to get lucky to be able to pass inspection. *tr

Chrysler released the n23 recall to update the final drive controller, this update has affected the transfer case motor function. my 2006 commander has had a catastrophic failure and cannot be fixed. the jeep dealer informed me that chrysler has pulled all the replacement parts from the supply system (transfer case motor) and there is no timeline for availability. there is no substitute parts to fix, nor aftermarket option. my car is worthless now! *tr

2006 jeep commander 4.7l v8 stalls when coming to a stop. multiple instances (over 12) between the first occurrence approximately mid december 2013 and today 11 january 2014. all stalls happened when coming to a stop except for one instance when it stalled while in reverse. a drop in rmps and lighting/instrument failure accompanies the stall. chrysler's recall n32 was completed october 2013. vehicle has been owned since early 2011 with no stalling of this type having occurred prior to this. no instrument panel indication (e.g. check engine light) accompanies the stall. vehicle restarted on all occasions after shifting to park or neutral. *tr

Approximately 40 miles from home, on a day with the temperature well below zero degrees fahrenheit, we rolled our front windows down to talk to our neighbors, who were shopping at the same mall as us. after visiting with them, our windows would not roll back up. our family had to drive in freezing weather back home, on a sunday, with the windows rolled down. on the way, by rapidly depressing the windows lock button, while my wife repeatedly pulled up on the front passenger window switch, we got her window to roll up. we never could get the drivers front window to roll up. i replaced the master switch assembly on the drivers door panel, but that did not help. the dealership told me that i probably have multiple broken wires in the wire bundle in the door hinge area. jeep has not, to my knowledge, addressed this problem at all. the internet forums are chock-full of hundreds and hundreds of consumers that have had, and are having this same problem. *tr

I opened my car driver's door one morning to find two inches of rainwater on the floor near the pedals. unable to find the source, i put my jeep commander in the shop. i was charged for them fixing the leak that never got fixed. i have had everything checked out numerous times & no one can tell me how water gets in. however inconvenient, i am parking my car in parking garages every time it rains now, given there seems to be no other solution. in addition to the leak, my commander's radio/stereo just stopped working. i can't get it to turn on or work & and am now experiencing electrical problems having to do with window controls. after researching my options i learned that too often these same exact problems appear for many if not most commander owners. (i also reported a major problem with this car stalling in it's own complaint.) these problems need to be analyzed by real professionals & the jeep commander must be recalled. *tr

This vehicle has numerous recalls related to all the problems our jeep has. there is 0 recall for our vin. the vehicle surges when driving up hills. the car won't start sometimes because the shifter control thinks it is in drive when it is in park. the cruise control does not work and the 4 wheel drive kicks in when driving at high speeds and jumps the car.

Had recall n23 performed in october. during last snow storm went to use 4lo and got a "service 4wheel" and 4lo would not engage. after doing some research on jeep forums found this to be a recurring problem with many folks who have this recall/re-flash done on the final drive. *tr

Car dash lights radio and headlights went on and off 5 times in a 1 mile drive. car also shifted into neutral on its own. called jeep. they said that even though these things are on the recall list my car is not eligible due to my vin number. and if i want these things fixed i would have to pay. *tr

This problem has been occurring since 2010. it first happened to my wife as she drove on i-75 the car just turned off on her and almost got rear ended by a car that was behind her. it has occurred at least 7 times since and recently much more than before where the same thing happens the car turns off and you lose complete control of everything, brakes ,steering etc the car just floats for about two blocks and you are helpless until it stops. my wife contacted chrysler this last time to complain about the issue and was told that our car was under investigation ,that recalls were being done in september but that we would have to pay for the repairs and then get reimbursed .i personally don't think the consumer should pay for anything much less something that has already been discovered to be a manufacturing flaw. *tr

For no reason the jeep would just die, on the intrastate, in town, anywhere, just shut off, then after a hour or so it would start again. after being in the shop many weeks for this, the two computers were found to be the problem. changed the computers, at the fee of almost $ 2000 and no more problems, which the money is nothing knowing my teenage daughter wont stall on the intrastate and be killed. chrylser corp can care less !!!! *tr

In may, 2013 i received recall, n23. soon after i had the recall applied. on the first attempt to use the 4 wheel drive feature it failed. i went to another dealer who disconnected the transfer case, checked the connections and voltages and found them ok. they reconnected the transfer case and reported it operational. a few weeks later, while traveling, i received another warning that the transfer case failed. i went to a local jeep dealer who diagnosed the problem as needing an actuator. when i returned home i went to the dealer that applied the original recall which was a software update. after they cleared the error codes they said they found a broken connector on the actuator. i assume all the manual handling of the actuator probably caused the connector to brake. i was told that the actuator had to be replaced but was on backorder. i have paperwork that indicates that the original problem found was a cracked circuit board in the actuator. how can a software update fix a cracked circuit board? could that be why there are no new actuators available? were they pulled off the market? there are many jeep owners that i am in contact with that are having the same problem as i am and are being told the same thing by chrysler that i am: that the recall did not cause the damage to the actuator. something needs to be done to resolve this problem. someone outside of chrysler and the owners needs to investigate to get to the bottom. *tr

P41 recall. before recall my 2006 jeep commander turned off on its own numerous times. this resulted in engine shut down, no electrical system, etc. i have contacted chrysler several times. i get the same response, part not available. why? i am told the supplier does not have part. why not?. this is an old recall, however chrysler is repairing or buying back newer models of vehicles due to faulty design. 2006 jeep commander recall is just as serious as newer recalls. the faulty ignition switch results in entire shut down of jeep, including air bags. i was told to adjust seat so that knee does not make contact with keys in ignition. what? i suggest that vehicles with faulty ignition switch be a part of the chrysler buy back or repair immediately. also, to avoid further serious accidents and possible death resulting form faulty ignition switch.

I have just purchased this used 2006 jeep commander 1 week ago. the vehicle is in great condition, no previous accidents, no engine lights/error codes. on the 2nd day of owning the jeep i experienced my first stall, and since then 4 more stalls. there is no engine lights, error codes, etc. the vehicle seems to be 100% okay, however the vehicle has just shut off 4 times losing brakes, steering, lights, etc - whether i am moving or at a stop. at first i thought "i must have bought a lemon" but i have been reading through several forums and blogs that there are 100's if not 1,000's of people who are experiencing the same issue with their 5.7l hemi commander, and some of the blogs date back to 2006 when these vehicles were brand new with less than a thousand miles on them. one person actually suffered an accident due to this electrical issue - losing control of steering and brakes. because their is no engine codes or lights dealerships are not assessing the issue at all or are just throwing parts at it hoping it is fixed and charging the customer a boat load of money. several people have identified that the issue potentially resides in the pcm and the ignition coils, some say that the coils put of an em interference that is disrupting the pcm. regardless - chrysler needs to get this fixed so no one else gets hurt, or killed. *tr

Ignition switch defective. it moved from run to acc while making a right turn onto a onramp going about 30 mph. it turned off the vehicle just like the defective gm switch did. it was attached to other keys and may have been bumped by knee during turn. *tr

I purchased my 2006 jeep commander in july 2013 8/3/13 i was driving on the freeway when all the warning lights started flashing. the gauges stop working. head lights went out, ac fan shut down, radio went off. everything electrical shut down. then it just came back on, then off. it continued to do this until i shut the car off and waited for a few minutes. but it started again after a few minutes of driving. i have taken back to dealer where i purchased it. they have replaced the ecu,and the pcu but it's still doing it. it's been in out of the shop 4 times so far. they have had my car longer than i have. as of now they are unable to determine what's wrong with it. so i am paying for a car that i can't drive and i can't get out of my loan because the cars not worth what i paid for it and it's not drivable!!!!*jb

2006 jeep commander electrical system recall 13v175000 nhtsa: action number: n/a service bulletin number: 13v175000 i had my commander taken to the local jeep dealer to perform the recall. after the recall was performed my car would not shift into 4lo, and i got a service light. i returned my car to the dealer twice more to redo the recall. my 4lo would work for a few days then it would again not work and the service light would return. my dealer then ordered a transfer case shift actuator under warranty, and assured me this would fix the problem. after the actuator was installed, i had no problems for about 2 months. i really thought it was fixed for good. then, the problem returned. i have since talked to others who have had this recall done, and they also complain about the loss of 4lo, and a service light afterward. these problems were non existent prior to the recall in most cases. i believe this recall should be looked at, and recalled again to fix this recall induced problem. *tr

Hi, this is the second notice that i have received regarding the recall for the ignition switch (p41/nhtsa 14v-438). upon receiving the notice i called my local jeep dealer and both times was told that the parts are not available. i have experienced some of the problems described in the recall. i have two young children and i am concerned for their safety. i have brought my vehicle (2006 jeep commander) in for service before the recall was made aware of and they could not diagnose the problem. at times i have been driving and all of a sudden my vehicle's instrument panel seems to shut off, the steering tightens, and the lights flicker on and off. this happens quite frequently and now that i know that there is a recall i'm more afraid that i may be putting my family and myself in danger. i realize that the recall notice has been made public for a year now but this has been happening for much longer than that. i read on your site that it may be possible for the vehicle to be purchased back. my vehicle has 115600 miles and i'm the original owner. how does that work? thank you for your time. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the parking brake warning light was illuminated. the contact was able to restart the vehicle only by placing the gear selector in the neutral position; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 69,000.

I received a recall notice about a week prior to this incident for nh23. it stated there were no parts to repair it and to put the emergency brake on while the vehicle is in park in the meantime which i did. on july 3rd- i took my daughter to the bmv to take her road test in my jeep. the officer and my child stated that the car was malfunctioning and not safe to test in. we had no problem on the way there. i went out to see what could be wrong and the vehicle was surging loudly and "jumping" in place. it would not switch gears either so it could not be driven. i had it towed to my mechanic and was told my transmission was gone. i called the recall number and spoke to [xxx] who told me that a software glitch would've prevented this problem from being diagnosed and to have it towed to ganley chrysler in bedford, oh. i learned on 7/9 when mike a service tech there called me requesting $936 to open the transmission. "it's a broken part in the transmission." i asked him if it was related to the tca. he said, "what's that? let me look it up." he then stated, "no. that's just a piece that is used to program the car. it has nothing to do with it." i called chrysler back and spoke with [xxx]. i gave her the background info and she called mike. she told me "it has nothing to do with the recall." the dealership did not know to diagnose my car once it was dropped of there. after speaking with the representative instead of doing a thorough check they maintained that the problem is that there is a broken part in the transmission and it is not r/t to the transfer case actuator. even though the tca going bad can cause the transmission to ??go bad?? or break. i firmly believe it could not be appropriately diagnosed d/t a software glitch and that the tca needed replacing and the dealer did not have the parts as the recall stated. why then should i pay for the repairs? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

As i was coning to a stop my car died this happened several times all while coming to a stop. i could hear a clicking noise and then the engine would just turn off. i would have to put it in park and restart the engine. *tr its very scary to think my car turns off for no apparent reason. they did a diagnostic but found nothing now my navigation display in the radio comes and goes to a blank screen. i assume it is all connected since the electrical system is all related. what next?
