Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2006 Jeep Commander

Repeated transmission over temp error messages displayed on dash. error is intermittent, occasionally causing vehicle to turn off unexpectedly during operation. happens while driving in normal conditions.

Transmission over temp warning comes on periodically caddying another fan to cone on. if you turn off vehicle and crank back it goes away for a while. seems to be worse when the car is idling but also happens while driving. this has been going on for over a year.

My jeep loses power every time i drive it stalls out while driving (scary when it happened on the freeway) at times it stops shifting and then slams like the whole transmission fell out of jeep.

Tl* the mechanic's customer owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving at an unknown speed, the cruise control failed without warning. the owner took the vehicle to the contact's independent mechanic where a failure code was discovered for the power traiin. the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 08v203000 (power train). the contact spoke with crown chrysler dodge jeep ram greensboro (3710 w wendover ave, greensboro, nc 27407, (336) 790-9850) and was informed that the recall had expired. the manufacturer was notified of the recall and stated that more information was needed to see if the vehicle was included in the recall. the contact found on the internet that the vehicle was repaired per the recall on may 5, 2008. the vehicle had not been repaired after the most recent failure. the failure mileage was 141,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the power train control module failed and caused the vehicle to shift into third gear without warning. the vehicle was taken to redlands chrysler jeep dodge ram (500 w redlands blvd, redlands, ca 92373) where it was determined that the previous owner had the vehicle repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 08v203000 (power train). the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 150,000.

Began experiencing issues with starting at all after the ignition switch recall was worked on and resolved. the jeep won't start at different times, different weather conditions. the proper positioning and the vehicle acknowledging it being in park is an issue. the jeep requires parking to be forced -using the gear lever shift from drive to park and look for the jolt to indicate it's in the appropriate gear, in park

Keep getting "transmission over temp" code and cooling fans turn on. dealer say it cannot be recreated. if vehicle is shut off and started back on code goes away.

At 100k with no warning, engine runs hot, i wait for 30 min to cool down.. drive again and it runs hot.. mechanic says head gasket blown..smdh.. along with that it was raining and the sunroof starts leaking. 8 months prior i had to replace the transmission. what a jeep and i am still paying on it.!! the jeep people needs to recall these and at least reimburse people, now im stuck with buying a 5000 engine on a set income...basically couldve bought a brand new car with the funds i put out so far..

While sitting at a stoplight vehicle will not accelerate feels as the loss of power. vehicle does not want to move then told it's in some sort of safety mode i think the lead frame is failing from what i can tell. vehicle sitting at a stoplight fails to accelerate barely moves

The tcm on this vehicle goes in neutral when you are driving use 3 different jeep commander and all have the same issue report it to the dealer and they told me is the tcm malfunction

Takata recall my vehicle was in motion @ 75 mph on the high way when the transmission shifted itself into 3rd gear and would not shift out

On highway driving in winter weather conditions with 4x4, engine would not automatically shift and engine rod went through the oil pan. vehicle was in motion trying to slow down the engine by braking. vehicle was going straight.

1st my car has been having starting issues. the fuel pump was changed twice and that's not the issue.it seems to be coming from the wiring heading into the fuse panel in the engine. when i move it around it starts sometimes. and also when i put black tape around the wires it seems to correct the issues for weeks at a time. the problem is u never know when its gonna start or not. now my engine, traction control and esp/bas warning lights are coming on. when that happens the transmission starts going haywire and feels like its only running on 1 gear plus when i reverse it feels like something grinds in the gears. however when those warning lights go off everything seems to go back to normal. recently all the warning lights came on and the transmission over temp warning came on and my ac stopped blowing cold air and shortly after the car stalled in traffic on the highway. thank god i was able to restart it but then it felt like the car drove all the way home using 2nd gear only in the automatic transmission. from reading other issues people are having online its obvious this model is having major electrical issues that no one seems to be able to correct. i am a jeep lover but this model has completely made it difficult on me since its my only car and its so unreliable. i don't have the means to replace it right now so this situation has been unfortunate for me

The 2nd row seat belt buckle moves up so there for the seat belt wont latch enless you move plastic covering down also the jeep shifts hard when put in reverse or drive

I have experienced on 3 separate occasions including today while driving my vehicle looses power sounds as if my transmission is not shifting or the gear shift will not shift . after i cut the off for a few minutes then i can shift my vehicle from park to drive without a loud screeching sound. today, i had to use my emergency brakes just to keep my vehicle still after i put it in park. seems as though the vehicle shifts into another gear and gets stuck until i cut my vehicle off. i believe it may be the transmission control module or transfer case issue. i know there was a recall on this vehicle for the tcm but i didn't have it done. i need help, this is getting to scary, constantly paying for a vehicle and call the manufacturer and nobody wants to do anything.

Transmission stop shifting properly and shuttering in motion..took it to transmission shop, they said transmission needed replaced. got new transmission, still had same problem. took it back to shop, they did a second repair and charged me $2959.50. they didnt described what they did the second time. i had no problems since..so far.

While driving the service rear park assist message came on and the check engine light came on. when this happens all the lights around the transmission letters on the dashboard start to flash and the transmission starts to slip. this happens when you accelerate. have had vehicle at the dealership for 3 weeks now and have had no solution to the problem . am very concerned about transmission slipping when pulling into traffic.

After driving for short amount of time ( 15-20 minutes) the transmission seems to lag into shifting. there is also a problem when trying to manually shift gears. tried shifting into low gear at stop light, and the indicator on the dash stays in ' d' and will not engage in other lower gears. it also appears to lag when traveling at a stead speed, about 30-45 miles per hour.

My vehicle stalls and cuts off when stopped at stop signs and traffic lights. the engine also shakes and acts as if it wants to die while driving. i took my vehicle in for recalls after i left the service center it once again cut off at the first stop light i came to. *tr

We have a 2006 jeep commander and it sometimes jerks back and forth while driving sometimes it even shifts into neutral and then back to drive the power steering works only part of the time and the airbag system says its off all the time and it will shut off while driving sometimes too really frustrated with this vehicle its a disaster and waiting to happen

For the passed 3 years our vehicle has switched gears from drive to 3rd gear, while driving. the vehicle jolts and changes gear for a few months and returns back to normal. we continue to use it at 3rd gear. there is no way to change it back to drive manually. we've taken it in to auto shops and the symptoms return. *tr

Regardless of distance traveled, outside temperature, the 'transmission over temp' message appears on the dash. had coolant flushed 2x but message still appears intermittently. had mechanic look at more than a few times, however could not replicate message and thus no resolution/fix to problem. jeep recently had ignition switch recall completed (thought that would never happen) but 'transmission over temp' would occur prior to that recall being completed. thought the two were connected somehow. main concern is the engine does not overhear, temp reads below middle mark but when transmission message appears, after a few minutes, transmission feels 'off' or jumpy. something is definitely happening. not safe to drive, not confident taking it on long trips because of possible damage that may occur, not to mention being stranded. this is my girlfriends truck and i'm not comfortable having her drive too far, especially in the evening. his is inconvenient because we take care of our vehicles, this truck has low miles, 62,000. would really like to resolve this because we love the trick but cannot trust taking it on trips, towing our boat which was the original purpose of having truck. what a stressful vehicle to have. very dissatisfied with this truck. again, the transmission over temp would occur intermittently, on the highway at times, in traffic, small trips, after sitting parked after a short trip, message reappears once truck is started again. no rhyme of reason to this.

When driving on the highway the vehicles engine just stops. power steering is gone if you have to maneuver out of the way it's very difficult when decelerating it seems to down shift very hard like going form 4th to 1st the dash lights flash randomly when ever they feel like it. i've been thru 3 fan speed controls fir the heater this has been happening for the last 2 years

N23 recall performed prior to purchasing used jeep commander. a week after purchasing i receive a "service 4wd" message and am unable to to use 40. chrysler dealer has flashed fdcm which corrected the issue for several days, however the service 4wd has come back on. the service 4wd appears on startup nearly every time.

When driving my jeep commander it stalls. it happens when i am stopped and try to go or when i slow down then try and accelerate. my life has been at risk when this happens. one of the times i was driving on the interstate going 65mph and it stalled. i am extremely upset about this especially since i have a 2 year old son that is in the car with me.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled several times with no warning. the vehicle was able to restart. the dealer was contacted more than twice. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic more than twice and they had been unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v438000 (electrical system) and 13v175000 (power train , electrical system). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available. parts distribution disconnect.

My jeep upon being on the highway and in the right lane suddenly slowed down to the point of stalling and i had to bring the car to the side of the road and began shutting it off when coincidently the the light went on in the roof of the car and my headlight dimmed. i called the jeep place for an oil change and they diagnoised the car and did a recall on the ignition switch and told me the powertrain transfer case is bad and thermostat leaking from the housing and 4 wheel drive failed. i have never used the 4 wheel drive as i recently purchased the car at the end of april and own it for just 7 months. they said it will cost me over $750.00 dollars to be fixed. i called chrysler and they said my vehicle is not included however on your web site nhtsa campain# 13v175000 seems to apply to my diagnoised problems. i love my car but this is a defect in manufacturing and not something that i have done. the previous owner had this car constantly maintained at executive jeep in north haven ct. i want my car fixed at chrysler's cost not mine. i drive my car with my grandchildren in it and now feel it is unsafe.. please help me. i have all records for the car and the diagnostic information should you need it. i also have howard the manager at jeep phone #.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving approximately 55 mph up an incline, the gear shift switched into the neutral position independently and the rpms revved without warning. while driving down the hill, the vehicle failed to accelerate and jerked forward as the check engine warning light illuminated the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 08v203000 (power train) or 13v175000 (electrical system, power train). the failure mileage was 156,000.

I have a 5.7 4x4 commader and the car is driving and shuts off at any given point happened to me like 16 times now in the last few weeks, its gotten scary now because its happened to my wife in the carpool lane with the kids, but most recent to me pulling up to work making a right turn and stalled no codes or any messages given and just shuts off, i just bought the car from a co worker and keeps acting up after a software recall done by scott robinson dealer ship in torrance also noticed that a 06 jeep commander 4.7 recall has the same issue, i dont want to have a bad accident and hurt someone while driving someone please help with this...

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving various speeds, especially uphill, the vehicle would independently shift into neutral. the contact also stated that the vehicle would not go into 4-lo and the transfer case warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transfer case failed and the software needed to be updated. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system, power train). the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 190,000.

Was driving on highway and car went in to manual mode to neutral and will not come out of 3rd gear

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while the vehicle was parked, the contact attempted to shift into four wheel drive low. the contact heard an abnormal noise and noticed a warning indicator stating to service the four wheel drive. the failure occurred intermittently. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 104,000.

I have getting intermediate message since may saying "transmission over temp" in dash area. i have taken to the dealer on may 14, in which they took an educated guess to change my transmission fluid. i agreed to the service which did not solve the problem. i took to back the dealer again on june 1, for the same problem. this time the dealer technicians worked along with chrysler by opening a case. the corporate chrysler techs recommend to replace the solenoid, i agreed to do that. since may i have spent over $1320.00 at dulles jeep and i still have the same problem. please advise how can you help me? thank you andrew

it would take me 10-15 mins to start. when your driving it would jerk then on the 4-25-15 at 9 pm i was driving home with my two month old grandson going up the hill i was pushing on the gas it would not move i hate to think if i was on a highway would i be alive today if it stopped on a hill like i said it could have anywhere . *tr

I was driving on the express way do 70 mph and we hit a bump and the jeep lost all power. it shut right off. thank fully we were in the outside lane and could get pulled over. the check engine light came on. once we got pulled over we shut the key off and started it back up and it was fine. but the check engine light stayed on.there has been a recall on the ignition switch since june of 2014 and the dealership keeps telling me they don't have the parts. this is my only vehicle and i have a child and do not want to drive it now. *tr

My jeep acts as if i turned the ignition off while going down the road. today it did it again going down the highway at 65-70 mph. i have no additional keys on the key chain. my seat is slid back and there was no contact with my knee and the ignition switch. i have a 2006 jeep commander and have complained about this since 2007. there is a current recall (p41 / nhtsa 14v-438), that i was finally notified about by my dealer a year ago but there are still no parts available to fix the problem. how long should a known safety issue be allowed to go on without a fix. should we wait for someone to get into an accident and die? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving various speeds, the vehicle shook and stalled. the vehicle was restarted and resumed normal operation. the contact took the vehicle to the manufacturer who diagnosed that the ptm needed to be updated and/or replaced. the contact stated that nhtsa action number: ea07007 (electrical system, engine and engine cooling, power train) directly related to the failure associated with the vehicle. the dealer informed the contact that the nhtsa campaign number: 08v203000 (power train) for the year, make, model, and failure were similar because the investigation involved the 4.7l v-8 engine. the contact's vehicle was equipped with a 5.7l v-8 engine. the manufacturer was unable to provide a recall repair. the manufacturer opened a case on the contact's behalf regarding the vehicle. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the vehicle independently shifted into neutral without warning. the contact powered the vehicle off and back on; however, the failure persisted. the failure recurred on several occasions when the vehicle was started as well as while driving at various speeds. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be repaired. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v438000 (electrical system) and 13v175000 (electrical system, power train), however, the parts to do the repairs were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 20,000. vin tool confirms parts not available. updated 1/15/16*cn several transmission components were replaced. finally, after many transmission failures, the entire transmission was replaced. however, the consumer continued to experience problems. updated 01/25/16.*jb

My jeep commander started having trouble skipping. there was a recall on the control module and the fix determined by chrysler was to re-program it. i took it in to have the recall performed and the transmission check afterwards. when i arrived to pick it up, the dealership said the technician was out sick so all they could do was the recall. the car drove worse after i started home and failed to get transition between gears. i was forced to stop at the closest transmission shop. their certified technician diagnosed that the transmission was bad. so, i had them they replaced it. when they went to test drive it, apparently the new transmission also failed due to the control module. they took it to the dealership and had a new control module installed. after repairing the new transmission, i was charged $4000. whatever the recall "fix" for the control module was, it clearly was the cause for the transmission's destruction. the other recall for the ignition could not be done because chrysler has no manufactured part to fix it. i sold the commander the next day. i needed reliable transportation. the consumer stated she started having problems with the starter. updated 04/06/15

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving at various speeds, the engine stalled. while parked, the vehicle automatically went into reverse. also, the contact stated the air bag warning indicator was illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 158,757. ma 10/6 the consumer stated the while driving the vehicle would stall. when the vehicle was in park it would roll backwards. also, the air bag light would turn of and on, the dash lights would flash, and antilock on the dash turns on and off. when coming to a stop the vehicle would make a grinding noise. the vehicle was taking to the dealer who advised the vehicle could not be repaired. updated 3/28/2016*js updated 10/05/2015*cn

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the vehicle randomly changed gears from drive to neutral without warning. the contact constantly had to adjust the gears while traveling to prevent a failure and a crash. the failure was reported to an authorized dealer months ago and they indicated that the part needed was not available and that they would call the contact when the appointment was available. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system, power train) and stated that the part was not available. the dealer did not provide a specific date for when the part would become available. the manufacturer was contacted and could not provide an estimated date for when the vehicle would receive the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 135,000.

Safety recall n23. i took this vehicle in for the recall in april 2014. i was told the recall had already been performed & no work was needed. they could not give me a date of the previous update for this recall. so the recall was performed on my vehicle at some time. now i have a constant error flashing "service 4wd system." this vehicle also has no working 4wd low. i feel this is a direct result of the software update that was used for this recall. i do not feel that a software update will correct a cracked or damaged circuit board. *tr

As i driving down the highway i can be going between 40-60 mph and if i let off the gas and just coast and then give it gas again its like it is in neutral and it continues to do this until the car is going 20 mph or under and it is very dangerous it has caused me to almost have several wrecks and i have 5 kids which were with me in the car each time this has happened to me something needs to be done! *tr

My vehicle is a 2006 jeep commander that i have had numerous issues with even though it only has about 78,000 miles. i was driving down a residential street when it stalled and after i cut off the engine to restart it the vehicle would not turn over. i had it towed to a repair shop and was told it was the control relay module that was not communicating effectively. i have had the transmission replaced, all the recalls done, and many other things. this is so unsafe and ridiculous. its nearly $1,000 to have this part replaced, but because it is such a common issue it is on back order. chrysler should take responsibility for the defective items they produce and sell to customers who bear the brunt of having a barely drivable, money pit. *tr

While driving at 45 mph the vehicle just turned off. there is a faulty ignition switch recall but chrysler will not do anything to help get this repaired. i received a recall notice and contacted them but they will not get back to me about repair. this 2006 vehicle is being driven by my daughter who is 19 years old and away at college. unfortunately my vehicle is a 2007 jeep commander and has the same recall therefore i can't even give her my vehicle to drive since it is unsafe as well. at the very least chrysler should repair these vehicle pronto! in the interim they should provide a safe vehicle for my daughter to drive. *tr
