Vehicle seem to loose power while cruising at or around 45 mph or when engages 4th gear. rpm's drop really quick from 3500 to almost 1500 rpm's in matters of second. increasing the risk of a rear end collision if trying to overtake another vehicle or driving up hill, dealer can't find problem. problems happens every time under any weather condition. *tr

Bought this commander 08/02/14, about two weeks after driving it . it started dropping out of gear and getting stuck in 3rd gear. and when driving on the highway it would completely shut down , i sent it back to where i bought it. for them to fix the problem being i haven't even made my first car payment. and the gave me a run around for two weeks saying they was waiting on parts . then said they had it and had my jeep for almost 4 weeks . before getting my jeep. now its 01/02/15 and its doing it again. i cant make it back and forth to work. or get my kids. with my jeep stuck in third gear and dieing for no reason. *tr

Everytime i drive my jeep it stalls and the wheel locks up (basically turns into manual steering) and my brakes lock up ( no brakes at all) and i had just bought this jeep a wk go from mcgee chevrolet in raynham ma. the first night i drove it home it stalled pulling in to the driveway. i called the dealership the next morning to tell them and they wouldn't take the jeep til the following wk to look at it they came up with every excuse in the world. when i brought the jeep in today they had me sign a deductible of 100 dollars but yet when i first test drove the jeep it i told them to fix it but all they did was cleared the codes (flashed the computer) now i have a rejection sticker on the vehicle and no car. *tr

While traveling on an expressway in central michigan, i was using the cruise control to maintain a speed of 75 mph. with no warning at all, the mechanical components of the vehicle shut down, leaving my jeep "dead in the highway". i was able to steer and brake, but the vehicle would not respond to acceleration by pressing the gas pedal. i pulled off to the shoulder, luckily without incident. turned the key to the "off" position and waited about 10 seconds. i turned the key to the "on" position and it started back up. i cautiously drove at a considerably slower speed until i was able to get to a rest stop. when i got to my destination i found a local auto parts store and had them do a diagnostic check. it showed a maf sensor gone bad. mass air flow sensor was replaced. hoping that was the issue, after several days, my family and i headed back home on the other side of the state. while driving about 60 mph with cruise control, there were no issues. i figured the problem was fixed. unfortunately, i was wrong. as i reached the highway where the speed limit is 70 mph, i accelerated to 70 mph with the cruise control. as soon as i broke the 70 mph point, the car mechanically stalled again as i was trying to merge onto the busy highway. again, luckily, i made it safely to the shoulder and restarted. i was able to exceed 70 mph on the way home without using the cruise control. concerned for my pregnant wife, toddler son, and my own safety, as this happened on a busy highway at a high rate of speed; with no warning lights or sounds. *tr

Braking to approach a red light at an intersection the brakes felt mushy followed by complete loss of power. i was stopped in the inside lane of a 4-lane hwy at an intersection without power!. after a moment of panic....thank heavens no oncoming traffic behind me....i put the car into park and restarted the engine. i traveled two blocks to where i could safely exit the hwy and park. after a few minutes while i calmed down i proceeded to drive the vehicle to my home. since that time i have tried to get the vehicle in for a check but cannot get an appointment until august. it has been a few days and i have no choice but to use the vehicle. i have noted some missing and hesitating from time to time but not complete failure. however, i would not take this vehicle on an open hwy as it is performing right now. *tr

At any speed, anytime, cold or hot, the vehicle will produce a message on the instrument cluster information center stating " transmission over temp ". the vehicle was brought to the mechanic two times already and can't find anything wrong. this message will display on a cool morning upon start up or after the vehicle has been running for some time. the message will not stay on longer than a few minutes, then will turn off. a ton of research has been done and no one has the answer yet. the only thing i came across was to replace the pcm/ecm, someone stated there was a glitch with the computer. many people have this recurring problem and it can't be fixed yet. *tr

My jeep had an n23 recall performed at park jeep in burnsville, mn. after the recall was performed, the four wheel drive system low range became inoperable. a message appears on the dash: 'service four wheel drive'. i notified the dealer about his issue. they performed some reprogramming that they said would fix the issue. this reprogramming did not work, as the issue has returned, and my four wheel drive system is not operating as expected. i notified jeep customer service, and they have no solution for this problem. the dealer has no solution for this problem. about 500,000 grand cherokees and commanders that have this four wheel drive system are affected. no one can guarantee that it will not affect normal operation of the vehicle. and no one knows what the system can do in traffic on it's own without warning to the driver of the vehicle. the n23 recall performed by my jeep dealer has created this problem, and it needs to be addressed by the manufacturer now. chrysler/jeep needs to provide a proper repair so that the owners of these vehicles can count on their jeeps to perform as they were represented to perform when purchased, and with the knowledge that the vehicle will perform in a safe manner with no unexpected limitations or actions as they are driven on the public roads. search on the internet will show scores of links to this n23 recall created problem, and chrysler/jeep's lack of action on this issue. this needs action now. *tr

Driving north from detroit with my uncle, passing a semi on i 75 at about 70-75. the engine just quit, likesome turned the key off. got to the side of the road, put vec. in park started back up drove home. took jeep to al serra,s the 29 th got it back 6/2/14 found no reason why it shut down. june 15 th when driving on bristol road at 45 mph it quit again, took it back to al serra,s 2days later got it back, still couldn't find cause. *tr

At startup vehicle info center shows service 4wd system. vehicle won't shift into 4wd low range if attempted service 4wd message come on and stays on until vehicle is shut off. recall n23 was performed and now codes had set stopping transfer case operation. codes c1405 and c140f cleared by dealer and claim it is fixed. dealer charged for this service. *js

I had the n23 update done and now i do not have 4 wheel drive - thanks chrysler another screw up and you won't fix it. *tr

I had parked my jeep on a hill i got out and walked about 20 feet in back of the jeep and all of a sudden i hear a sound of movement and i saw the jeep moving down the hill i was able to run fast enough to get into the jeep and pull the parking brake which stopped it. i forgot about the recall that was on it with the final drive controller module i had called the jeep dealer to tell them that were i live they don't have the proper software to complete the repair in any shop. i live on the island of kodiak ak. they said they were working on getting this software to a repair shop here however, after i didn't hear from them for six months i called back and they told me that they couldn't help me and i had to take my jeep to them on the mainland. i can't afford to ferry my jeep to the mainland and then stay over there until they can repair it then ferry it back. so now i have experienced this situation which could have ended differently then it did i am thankful no one was hurt. *js

I cannot "safely" drive my vehicle as the car goes into neutral on it's own? there have been many a times that i have been on the highway traveling 55 mph or more and all of a sudden, the car would slightly jerk and then loose complete power. i would step on the accelerator but no change, i would simply pull off to the side of the highway. wait a few minutes and eventually the car would start up again? the headlights and interior lights go off and on? the face plate to the radio system gets hot? and has affected the illumination of the dashboard instrumental lighting? this is not a vin thing but a jeep commander thing? such an attractive vehicle with so many many issues? safety issues. and the company has yet to fulfill the recalls? its been more than a year? dealers keep telling the consumers, the part isn't available yet? i need to be able to drive to work, this has cost me additional money to buy a reliable vehicle to get me to work. i paid over $35,000 for it, and meanwhile it sits in the garage. a lot of money for your average joe to fork out. who's going to force the manufacturer to honor the recall?

After recall n23 i lost my 4 low range. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and all the instrument panel indicators illuminated. the vehicle was able to be restarted, but the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the mechanic stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Bought car used at a dealership, but was not told of recalls or issues. car stalled on me twice, once in traffic approaching a light and another in a parking lot turning left to weave out of lot. the 4 wheel low was recalled and checked, but problem persist. the engine hesitates while driving, little stumbles and shakes while accelerating. while in park, weird sound is heard from light rev. i have had car for less than 3 days and problems occurred. i have a 2 ton paper weight at the moment as i feel it is unsafe to drive. i now have a decent size transmission leak after i park from short drives. i have but maybe 250 miles on it. i have heard of the 4.7 having some of these issues and a recall has been done, but not for the 5.7l hemi's. i have read numerous complaints on similar issues of exact engine model of commander, but recalls for it aren't available and only such for the 4.7l version. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving between 55-60 mph, the transmission automatically switched into the neutral position. at times, all of the warning lights illuminated, including the park, drive, neutral, and reverse identification lights. the contact stated that the gear shift did not go back into the drive position right away. the vehicle had to remain parked for a while before any changes in the shifting could be performed. the failure mileage was 80,000.

I purchased this vehicle 2/15/14 three weeks later while driving on highway the gauges just came on and kept flashing it continued for the duration of my drive. once i got to work and put it in park and turn it off and restarted it nothing happened. so 8.5 to 9 hrs later back on the highway it does it again this time just flashed 3 times. it was taking to a shop per finance company to which the mechanic kept for almost 2 weeks. the mechanic stated he could not find anything wrong with it. he needed to see it happen. so i took it back home the first week nothing happened. second week nothing that third week it happened again this time while on highway on the way to work my speed dropped from 60 to 5 in less than a second. i pulled over and sat for 2 to 3 minutes an proceeded on with my cell phone ready to snap a picture if it happened again and low and be hold it does it again and this time it was continues until i turned off the vehicle once again it was taken to the shop with the proof he needed and again he stated he could not find anything wrong so he took it to jeep chrysler and had them reset everything and gave it back to me. for the next month nothing happened. but the following month once again the problem starts again. but this time it completely knocked out my radio. the finance company want help and i don't know what to do. today is the 25th of july but two or three days ago there was a recall on 2006-2007 jeep commanders for faulty ignition switches. i really do not feel safe for me or my kids in this vehicle but noone seems to care. not sure what to do about this problem but i truly hope you do. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that while ascending an incline at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power and fire emitted from under the hood. the police and fire departments were called. the vehicle was towed to the dealer who stated that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. the vehicle was repaired but the contact was then unable to shift to drive. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure and current mileage was 51,000.

06 commander. started up vehicle and let it warm up , put it in drive and nothing, tried reverse, still nothing, it has just around 115000mi on it. started my online research and found there is more issues . i've had it stall twice at a stop light. idle fluctuates at times at stop light. and delay when putting car in drive on occasion. these are the only issues i've had , besides broken exhaust studs.and normal wear and tear parts. all tranny fluids and filter were changed at 65000 mi along with diff fluids and transfer case fluids. absolutely love my jeep up until these issues. we'll see what my mechanic makes of all of this soon . i prey it's nothing to major. *tr

The transfer case motor/actuator will not shift after dealer performed n23 recall on the final drive controller. *tr

Getting stuck in 3rd gear and windows not working due to a common short

At around or about the speed of 55 mph ,i here a loud and scary thumping or grinding sound under the car. it sounds like its right underneath my seat. i immediately got off the expressway and slowed down. that seemed to help the sound go away.when i drive to work in the morning, i only drive 35 mph and i can here the sound also and when i let off the accelerator the sound stops, but continues when i press on the gas. pls notify me as soon as possible with any helpful information as i do drive with little children in the vehicle. i will take the car to the jeep dealer to get checked out. While driving at around 30mph the vehicle gets stuck in 3rd gear. driver has to park turn in off and start again. some times vehicle will stall just after start some times it will stall while driving at lower speeds (less than 20mph). *tr

I took my car to the recall to get the reflash in may of last year. when the winter came i tried using my 4 wheel drive and the "service 4 wheel drive" error. fix this! *tr

After jeep recall 4 wheel low fails to engage. it gives a maintenance error instead.. this is affecting a lot of the jeeps with the trac 2 system. look at the jeep forums. this was the final drive recall. *tr

The following happened only after recall. research seems to indicate it is directly related to recall. brief display of "service 4 wheel drive" after recall n23/nhtsa 13v-175. it went out then on february 3, 2014 it displayed same message again repeatedly. on february 17, 2014 i tried to put vehicle in 4 wheel drive neutral and it would not shift only displayed "service 4 wheel drive". as i do not use this system weekly during times of bad weather (i stay home) i was not aware of the problem. i believed that the service reminder message was for the fluid change that had been done at time of the recall at my expense and just had not been properly reset. i was unaware it was a warning of system failure. *tr

There was a recall for a software update. i brought the vehicle in and received the service in september 2013. when i went to use the 4wd, it would not activate so i brought it in for service and i discovered that this is a problem related to the software update. i have been without a vehicle for close to four weeks because the replacement parts are not available. chrysler updated something that effected the rest of the electronic controls and they didn't test it out first. it has cost me thousands of dollars and the car is still not fixed yet. *tr

i am writing this because i received a recall (n26) for my 2006 jeep commander. i took my car in to get the recall fixed to huntington beach jeep off beach blvd. on nov. 7th 2013 and they did the service, but ever since they "fixed" the recall my car has now been saying ?service 4wd? and not shifting into 4wd. i took the car back into huntington beach jeep on jan 7th 2014 and i thought it could be an easy fix but i got a call saying it could be the ?main transfer case? and once that is fixed it could also be the front and/or rear transfer cases as well. they recommended i start off with replacing the main transfer case and then go from there which would cost me around $800+. so since all my car needs all these parts replaced, i started becoming very concerned and i just don?t understand how these parts could ware out or brake when just about a month ago during inspection hb jeep passed all these transfer case parts with a green (excellent) service review. how could in one month all these parts break when i couldn?t even use my 4wd, and its frustrating because my 4wd was working fine before i took it in to get this recall update and now all these problems seem to be appearing. last but not least i know with my car being a 2006 its anything but new but i probably use my 4wd a hand-full of times a year and to think that these parts are worn out or broken just seems very unusual. i spent sometime online researching to see if anyone else has had this ?n26 recall issue? and there is thousands of people who are having this same situation. i?m writing this e-mail hoping that someone can please help me and everyone else having this ?n26 recall issue? problem get settled. i am just a 23 year old college student and to hear that all of a sudden your car needs hundreds of dollars invested in it when it was working fine before i took it in to this recall is just frustrating. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the transmission would remain in fwd low whenever the vehicle was stationary or she was driving. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who stated that the transfer case needed to be replaced; however, the part was unavailable to perform the repair. the expected date for the part to arrive was april of 2014. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

As with many others, i have a 2006 jeep commander. owned it for a year and no problems. aside from the old issues of which were an easy fix. (i.e. leaking sunroof). i went in for the most recent recall, i figured sure, why not, i fixed everything and its running great! my mistake! i now have power train issues. gear not shifting right. one time stayed in 3rd until i turned the car off and on again. stays in gear too long before shift should occur and then 'buck's into the gear. same for when stopping, does not shift down correctly and will stale when i finally come to a stop. why the recall! i should have left wheel enough alone! terrible! i still love my jeep, but i fear this "free' fix for the recall is now going to cost me thousands.... *tr

Chrysler released the n23 recall to update the final drive controller, this update has affected the transfer case motor function. my 2006 commander has had a catastrophic failure and cannot be fixed. the jeep dealer informed me that chrysler has pulled all the replacement parts from the supply system (transfer case motor) and there is no timeline for availability. there is no substitute parts to fix, nor aftermarket option. my car is worthless now! *tr

2006 jeep commander 4.7l v8 stalls when coming to a stop. multiple instances (over 12) between the first occurrence approximately mid december 2013 and today 11 january 2014. all stalls happened when coming to a stop except for one instance when it stalled while in reverse. a drop in rmps and lighting/instrument failure accompanies the stall. chrysler's recall n32 was completed october 2013. vehicle has been owned since early 2011 with no stalling of this type having occurred prior to this. no instrument panel indication (e.g. check engine light) accompanies the stall. vehicle restarted on all occasions after shifting to park or neutral. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, the vehicle veered to the right and the check engine warning light illuminated. in addition, the contact stated that the gear shifter was difficult to shift into park. the contact stated that one month later, the check tire pressure light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) however, the parts needed to do the repair were unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 40,000. updated 02/24/15*lj updated 9/13/2017*cn

My wife reported a strange thumping sound from under the car. she said it began after dropping children at school and going over a speed bump at the school. something she does every day. upon inspection i found the driver side emergency brake cable was interfering with the rear universal joint on the driveshaft. the cable was kinked and being cut by the rotation of the driveshaft. there was also abrasion of the gas tank splash guard. i have no doubt if this happened at highway speed the cable would be cut in half and possibly wrap around the driveshaft causing the driver side emergency brake to apply and lock-up the wheel resulting in a rollover. the gas tank could also have been punctured if the cable was pulled by the driveshaft. somehow the normal action of the vehicles suspension was able to place this cable in contact with the driveshaft. the rotation of the universal joint caught the cable pulling it into the rotating shaft. i consider this a class 1 defect that should be corrected with a model recall. normally the emergency brake cable is routed off to the side and not directly over the differential. what were they thinking? chrysler needs to devise a supplemental attaching point that will ensure the cables are not able to contact the driveshaft even under extreme off road driving. i have a full set of photos available upon request. i have ordered a new cable but the part number is on back order. this indicates there is a problem when the part cannot be stocked due to high demand. this cable should last the life of the vehicle without question. nhtsa is there for the public. it exists on public taxes. it is not there to shield corporate mistakes and short cuts. i feel that nhtsa is not operating within the public trust if it allows defects to be ignored. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that when the gear shift was switched into the drive position, the vehicle jerked and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. in addition, the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign: 14v438000 (electrical system) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000.

While driving my jeep will go from d to n. it will place a box around all gears and i will be in neutral. it typically happens when i first take off or when i stop at a light or a stop sign. when i first take off it will rev really high and not shift down automatically like it should, when i take my foot of the accelerator the car jolts and i'm in neutral, i have to physically put it in neutral or park in order for it to go back to drive. when i stop at a red light it jolts and now is in neutral and again i have to either put it in park or neutral in order for it to go back into drive. i have contacted jeep because there was a recall for this very problem, however the part that is on my jeep is a different serial number that the recall and they refuse to recall it also even though it does the exact same thing and throws the vehicle into neutral while i'm driving! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that after servicing the vehicle under nhtsa campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system , power train), the four wheel drive feature failed to operate. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the contact was advised that the transfer case motor actuator needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 118,000.

This vehicle has numerous recalls related to all the problems our jeep has. there is 0 recall for our vin. the vehicle surges when driving up hills. the car won't start sometimes because the shifter control thinks it is in drive when it is in park. the cruise control does not work and the 4 wheel drive kicks in when driving at high speeds and jumps the car.

October, 2013 received notification that there was a safety recall on my 2006 jeep commander. (as i have two young children, this was a priority to have fixed) i brought my jeep into the dealership to have the n23 safety recall performed. come january, 2014 with a few inches of snow on the ground i attempt to activate my 4 wheel low and i get a service light stating "service 4wd". i contact the dealership who had performed the recall and bring it in to be looked at. they run a diagnosis and determine the truck has an internal short in the transfer case. the service tech advised me it is related to the recall but he can not do anything at the dealer level. i need to call chrysler customer service who tells me they will not be doing anything to help. upon a little research (jeep forums) it seems there are many (many) others with the same issues. i am sure i am not the only one to call jeep with this issue and if you clear the codes the 4 wheel low engages so it is not a short. i believe chrysler jeep should look into what was performed with the n23 recall and determine how it effected the 4 wheel low on these vehicles. then reprogram them to work, as they were, at no cost to the owner. since this was a safety recall i felt i had no option but to have the recall performed on my vehicle now i have a faulty vehicle. *tr
