My wife was preparing to merge into traffic from a parking lot on a busy street in our hometown. in this particular parking lot there is a telephone pole near the egress portion of the parking lot. as she was pulling out the vehicle stalled, causing complete loss of control of steering and braking causing the vehicle to strike the telephone pole causing some damage to the jeep. we purchased this vehicle because we felt it would be safe for our family of 5, myself, my wife and my three young girls under the age of 8. i have lost all confidence in the safety of this vehicle and i refuse to put my family in jeopardy with this vehicle, this vehicle has done this many times before and the dealer can not find a fix. i have contacted an attorney and he has taken my case as a lemon law claim will be filed. this vehicle has had numerous other problems since the week we brought it home. i have always owned jeep, from cj's to cherokee and now the commander, i have always been happy with the jeep legacy but i have lost all faith in the new jeep. please help before someone gets killed in this jeep. *jb

At approx 29k my 2006 jeep commander began acting like it was going to stall out while the engine idled whether in park or drive. it also would act like it was going to stall if i were turning and hit a curb or bump. examples of when this happened: 1. at night, my engine was running, the car was in drive with my foot on the brake and my door was open; the interior lights began to dim and the engine almost cut off. 2. i was turning right from one road to another and hit the curb and the engine almost stalled. 3. i was stopped at an intersection waiting to turn right onto a road when the engine almost stalled. 3. i was parked with the engine running idle at a gas station looking for my atm card when the engine almost stalled. these instances seem to happen every couple of weeks. the jeep has been to 2 different dealers three different times for this and they told me that they can't replicate the problem and that my alternator is working at the correct amps. in addition, i have had transmission leaks and my family was left stranded 6 hours away due to a transmission problem that one dealer said was the mistake of another when they fixed my transmission leak. *tr

I had the n-23 recall completed. currently still having the same issue with my 4 wheel drive. *tr

i purchased a 2006 jeep commander last year. i have had the following items replaced on my jeep front passenger interior door panel. strange noise coming from my car that sounded like playing cards in bike tires ended with replacing front axel ring and pinion. car kept popping out of gear the entire gear shift was replaced. my passenger window had to be fixed it kept sticking halfway up. i had a problem where my car kept stalling. i was told the first time that no error appears on the computer and jeep knew of no issue with cars stalling so maybe it was bad gas. it died several more times and finally they did replace a part inside the idol. i also had an issue where my headlights kept turning off as i drove or would flash on and off. they replaced the headlight switch. i have had the rubber stripping from my back driver side window come off and now it is occurring on the passenger side. from the beginning i have told them i do not feel my transmission is working properly that it shifts hard and when i shift from reverse to drive there is a big hesitation. i have been told no error is appearing on computer and that jeep as usual has no known issues so they had no suggestions. once again they thought it was a gas issue moving from winter to summer blend. the last time i had it in when it was stalling i told them it the transmission was still hesitating and would make a pop noise at times then it would go. it is still occurring and at times the car acts like it might not shift into drive. i am satisfied with how my dealership is working with me they are doing their best to help me. i blame jeep/chrysler all you have to do is search the web to see that there are so many others just like me with the exact same issue. they need to recall these cars now and if they can not find the problem then replace them for us. *tr
1st occurrence of the stalling/dying: 7/23/06. vehicle was moving at a slow speed making a right hand turn. the vehicle lost power (no response when pushing on the gas pedal and the power steering also failed). driver had to put the vehicle into park from drive, turn the key to the off position and then back to the start position. the 2nd occurrence was on 8/9/06 12:30 pm. at a stoplight on a hill waiting to turn left. the light turned, the car in front of her accelerated and when driver took her foot off of the brake to apply the gas and the car began to roll backwards. after this occurrence, driver called the dealership and spoke with a svc advisor. driver described the symptoms and they said they had heard of this happening on some other commanders and that they knew the part that typically fixed it. driver made appt to bring in for service. vehicle dropped off 8/10/06. call from svc dept. 8/11/2006 and stated tech tested found a bad map sensor. they replaced the sensor and said the problem should be resolved. the 3rd occurrence happened on 8/15/06 7:40 am. driver was stopped waiting for traffic to clear to make a right turn onto highway 212 from 222nd drive. at this point, driver called dealership and asked to speak with a service adviser and said she would be bringing the vehicle back in as it wasn't fixed. the 4th occurrence happened 8/15/06 5:50 pm while the vehicle was in motion on highway 217 driving to the northwest jeep dealership. driver was in slow rush hour traffic- 5-10 ph. depressed the gas pedal to accelerate to keep up with traffic and the car just continued to coast with no acceleration. she had to put the vehicle in park, turn the key to the off position, start the car again and then stop on the highway to put car back into drive. *nm
While driving on the highway, a plastic bag, (in example, like one from walmart or winn dixie) wrapped around the rear axle and broke the pinion seal and fluid leaked out causing internal damage to the rear differential. this resulted in replacing the rear end. this vehicle had less than one thousand miles at the time of this incident. chrysler/ daimler refused to cover this under warranty and therefore filed the repair cost with my auto insurance. how can a 3 cent plastic bag cause so much damage to a fifty thousand dollar suv? this suv is advertised as "trail rated" , what about "street rated"? *jb
Leased a 2006 chrsyler jeep commander brand new off the car lot to experience stalling multiple times approximately 2-3 months from the beginning of my lease. stalling occurred over 12x. i took the car in for servicing more than 4 times to be told that the car's computer was not registering the problem. then, i filed under the florida state lemon law to receive not action. presently, i have been in litigation vs. chrysler, under the warranty act, since to no avail. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact started the vehicle and the four wheel drive indicator light was illuminated. the contact proceeded to drive as the vehicle became jerking with hesitation. the following day while parked on an incline, the vehicle rolled away and crashed into the rear of another vehicle. a police report was available. the vehicle was towed to a dealer were they stated there was a problem with the transfer case that can make the gears sticky and that is why the four wheel drive light came on. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 35,000.
Many times when making a left turn into traffic or a u-turn the vehicle with shut down and lose all power for 1-2 seconds. you can put your foot to the floor and the jeep moves just enough to get you into and intersection then loses power. instinct is to push the throttle all the way to avoid an accident, but then after a few seconds all the power comes back and the vehicle leaps at full throttle almost sending you into a spin. this as happened numerous times, but the dealer has no fix. *jb
