Had recall n23 performed in october. during last snow storm went to use 4lo and got a "service 4wheel" and 4lo would not engage. after doing some research on jeep forums found this to be a recurring problem with many folks who have this recall/re-flash done on the final drive. *tr
Car dash lights radio and headlights went on and off 5 times in a 1 mile drive. car also shifted into neutral on its own. called jeep. they said that even though these things are on the recall list my car is not eligible due to my vin number. and if i want these things fixed i would have to pay. *tr

For no reason the jeep would just die, on the intrastate, in town, anywhere, just shut off, then after a hour or so it would start again. after being in the shop many weeks for this, the two computers were found to be the problem. changed the computers, at the fee of almost $ 2000 and no more problems, which the money is nothing knowing my teenage daughter wont stall on the intrastate and be killed. chrylser corp can care less !!!! *tr
In may, 2013 i received recall, n23. soon after i had the recall applied. on the first attempt to use the 4 wheel drive feature it failed. i went to another dealer who disconnected the transfer case, checked the connections and voltages and found them ok. they reconnected the transfer case and reported it operational. a few weeks later, while traveling, i received another warning that the transfer case failed. i went to a local jeep dealer who diagnosed the problem as needing an actuator. when i returned home i went to the dealer that applied the original recall which was a software update. after they cleared the error codes they said they found a broken connector on the actuator. i assume all the manual handling of the actuator probably caused the connector to brake. i was told that the actuator had to be replaced but was on backorder. i have paperwork that indicates that the original problem found was a cracked circuit board in the actuator. how can a software update fix a cracked circuit board? could that be why there are no new actuators available? were they pulled off the market? there are many jeep owners that i am in contact with that are having the same problem as i am and are being told the same thing by chrysler that i am: that the recall did not cause the damage to the actuator. something needs to be done to resolve this problem. someone outside of chrysler and the owners needs to investigate to get to the bottom. *tr

I purchased my car in july, 2012, it is now oct, 2013, and i have had numerous problems with the jeep, for starters the lights and dash board lights keep flickering on an off by themselves, and now jeep won't pick up speed at times and the engine light came on, i took it to the dealer and they stated that it was a shift module problem that would cost 997. well i took it from the shop and a week later brought it back and they then stated that they would have to take the transmission apart and clean it because it might be debris that is on it, well later they call me to say that it was the transmission i need a new one and for that it will cost me 2900....there was a recall on this same type of problem back in 2008, could it be that i purchased this vehicle and they never had this problem fixed??? *tr
the first problem is that when going down a drive and stop at the end the car will shift from drive and the engine will shut off the second problem is the car will shift from drive to 3rd gear and stick i have had it to a transmission shop numerous times and they can't find the problem
After having the n23 recall performed on my jeep, i couldn't shift into 4lo, and when i tried i got a service 4wd system message. after 2 more trips to the dealer to redo the recall, with the same result, my dealer determined i had a bad transfer case actuator. at first they wanted me to pay for a new one, but i pointed out that i still had the 100,000 mile drive train warranty. they did replace the actuator under warranty. so far everything is ok. i use 4lo about once per week to check if it still works. the recall seems to do something to the actuators. all was fine till i had the recall (re flash) performed. others have still had issues after receiving new actuators. also, others have been forced to pay for the actuators even though they were ok prior to getting the recall done. *tr

Had the n23 recall and after words the 4 lo will not work took it back to the dealership and they checked it out and found a code c140f cleared the code and worked once and got the service 4lo system . called chrysler and they seed this is the first that they header of it and they called the dealership made a appointment took it back in and they seed that the actuator went out but it worked before the n23 was done and that time they charged me and it still dose not work they won't me to buy a new actuator but i think it should be chrysler that should have to pay for the actuator. *tr
My jeep has been having issues where i will be driving and service park assist system comes on dash board and on the prnd boxes come around it and the car stales. if i try to go the car won't go but rpm go up. the only way i go is i to put it in park then back in drive many times i have to put hazard lights on so that i don't get rear ended. sometimes when you go into drive it will jerk and then you will see the boxes around the prnd that's when i have to shift back into park wait for boxes to go off then drive. there is also orange light on dash that comes on. took to repair shop and code was reading u0404. this problem is getting worse and doing it all the time while driving i am afraid to drive it because i have 6 month old baby and 4 year old in the car. *tr
I have just purchased this used 2006 jeep commander 1 week ago. the vehicle is in great condition, no previous accidents, no engine lights/error codes. on the 2nd day of owning the jeep i experienced my first stall, and since then 4 more stalls. there is no engine lights, error codes, etc. the vehicle seems to be 100% okay, however the vehicle has just shut off 4 times losing brakes, steering, lights, etc - whether i am moving or at a stop. at first i thought "i must have bought a lemon" but i have been reading through several forums and blogs that there are 100's if not 1,000's of people who are experiencing the same issue with their 5.7l hemi commander, and some of the blogs date back to 2006 when these vehicles were brand new with less than a thousand miles on them. one person actually suffered an accident due to this electrical issue - losing control of steering and brakes. because their is no engine codes or lights dealerships are not assessing the issue at all or are just throwing parts at it hoping it is fixed and charging the customer a boat load of money. several people have identified that the issue potentially resides in the pcm and the ignition coils, some say that the coils put of an em interference that is disrupting the pcm. regardless - chrysler needs to get this fixed so no one else gets hurt, or killed. *tr
I had the jeep n23 recall done last august on my commander. afterwards i had a service light and 4wd lo didn't engage. i returned to the dealer to redo the recall 2 more visits. afterward the last recall attempt my dealer changed the t/case actuator. this fixed it for 2 months before the problem returned. we paid good money for these vehicles, and they should work as they did when we bought them. jeep doesn't acknowledge any problems. *tr

2006 jeep commander electrical system recall 13v175000 nhtsa: action number: n/a service bulletin number: 13v175000 i had my commander taken to the local jeep dealer to perform the recall. after the recall was performed my car would not shift into 4lo, and i got a service light. i returned my car to the dealer twice more to redo the recall. my 4lo would work for a few days then it would again not work and the service light would return. my dealer then ordered a transfer case shift actuator under warranty, and assured me this would fix the problem. after the actuator was installed, i had no problems for about 2 months. i really thought it was fixed for good. then, the problem returned. i have since talked to others who have had this recall done, and they also complain about the loss of 4lo, and a service light afterward. these problems were non existent prior to the recall in most cases. i believe this recall should be looked at, and recalled again to fix this recall induced problem. *tr

Hello, my 2006 jeep commander started stalling out over a year ago and has stalled on me on and off various times at different speeds but usually at a higher rate of speed, which has been very scary. i have chosen not to drive the vehicle anymore and now it is sitting in my driveway and i am driving a 1991 honda because i cannot afford to buy a new car at this time. i just paid this jeep off and now i cannot drive the vehicle. the dealer fixed the one recall on the vehicle called the front control module and it ran fine for a couple of weeks and now once again the car stalled out while i was headed to a camping trip with my kids a couple months ago going 50 mph and almost caused an accident. i was almost hit by a semi and several cars were honking and trying to avoid my jeep. i lose all power steering and there are no notifications that the car will stall so it is very scary and dangerous for me and my children. i am so upset that i cannot drive the car and feel safe. i have contacted jeep and they have a recall for 2006 jeep commanders that covers up to january 2006 and my vehicle was made in march so they told me there is nothing they can do. the recall was for the pcm which my car has the same code on the diagnosis but now they are telling me to take it to the dealer and i have to pay for this. i really hope that this situation can be resolved by jeep stepping up and taking care of this issue for the safety of people. *tr
I received a recall notice about a week prior to this incident for nh23. it stated there were no parts to repair it and to put the emergency brake on while the vehicle is in park in the meantime which i did. on july 3rd- i took my daughter to the bmv to take her road test in my jeep. the officer and my child stated that the car was malfunctioning and not safe to test in. we had no problem on the way there. i went out to see what could be wrong and the vehicle was surging loudly and "jumping" in place. it would not switch gears either so it could not be driven. i had it towed to my mechanic and was told my transmission was gone. i called the recall number and spoke to [xxx] who told me that a software glitch would've prevented this problem from being diagnosed and to have it towed to ganley chrysler in bedford, oh. i learned on 7/9 when mike a service tech there called me requesting $936 to open the transmission. "it's a broken part in the transmission." i asked him if it was related to the tca. he said, "what's that? let me look it up." he then stated, "no. that's just a piece that is used to program the car. it has nothing to do with it." i called chrysler back and spoke with [xxx]. i gave her the background info and she called mike. she told me "it has nothing to do with the recall." the dealership did not know to diagnose my car once it was dropped of there. after speaking with the representative instead of doing a thorough check they maintained that the problem is that there is a broken part in the transmission and it is not r/t to the transfer case actuator. even though the tca going bad can cause the transmission to ??go bad?? or break. i firmly believe it could not be appropriately diagnosed d/t a software glitch and that the tca needed replacing and the dealer did not have the parts as the recall stated. why then should i pay for the repairs? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I purchased my 2006 jeep commander from city auto in memphis, tn on 9/14/11 and was told it was a one-owner vehicle originating from the state of pennsylvania. i noticed hesitation in the transmission and variances (rough - up and down) in the idling shortly after my purchase. i then started to get the "transmission/engine" light coming on. but it would go away almost as quick as it would come on. i then had my engine stall while driving full speed on the interstate. i lost all power! fortunately, i was able to get over to the shoulder safely! we immediately started doing some research on various forums, including jeep forum, on the "stalling issue" and "lights coming on intermittently". my husband took it to our local autozone and they hooked it up to their coding scanner machine. it gave us the code to change the map sensor needed to be changed. my husband changed this out last summer (2013). it helped for a little bit. :( then began having the same issues, stalling out while driving, check engine light coming on/off and rough idling. husband went back and had them hook up to coding machine and this time was given the code for o2 sensor, which he purchased and changed out. now it's worse than ever! it won't even stay idled. it stalls almost immediately! i have to keep my foot on the gas (and brake when needed) all the time! if i let it go below 1000rpms it dies! we took it to a mechanic & was told the pcm was bad. but he told us that there were recalls that may fix the issue. so we took it to a dealership who performed the recall but unfortunately it did not fix the problems. this is a very expensive "fix" to a problem that appears to have never have been resolved properly by the manufacturer!! this needs to be addressed by the manufacturer as it is a major driving & safety hazard! *tr

2006 jeep commander. consumer writes in regards to vehicle transfer case motor actuator recall notice and seeks compensation for repairs. *smd the consumer stated the service 4wd system warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where they replaced the transfer case motor actuator at a cost of $ 708.95. the consumer received a recall notice, several months later and applied for compensation under the recall. however, chrysler informed the consumer that a fix for the recall had not been found and he would received another recall notice when the decision was made on how to fix the problem. in september, the consumer received a second recall notice and contacted chrysler about his compensation. he was assigned another case number and was informed the refund would be paid out in four weeks. in later october, he again contacted chrysler about the status of his refund. he was informed, the claim was denied since it had nothing to do with the shifting into neutral addressed in the recall.
I was in vehicle getting into car, care was on already, and the gear jumped from park to reverse since i still had door open i fell from care while vehicle continued in reverse from garage till it crashed into fire hydrant, recall was just received a month ago in regards......( a transfer case electrical failure may result in an unintentional shifting of the transfer case into the neutral position,in this case it was in park and jumped to reverse causing the accident and injury to me as i fell out of the car. *tr
Vehicle is a 2006 jeep commander 4x4 limited with the 4.7l engine. vehicle has suddenly stalled 4 times while driving in the last 6-8 weeks. vehicle stalled while backing out of parking space, driving 15-20 mph on a city street, while idling at a stop sign, and while accelerating from a stop light. these are the first occurrences in the 4 years we have owned the vehicle. *tr

my jeep stalled as i accellerated on the on ramp of a major interstate. i coasted to the shoulder and tried to restart and would not restart until i shut it completely off and restarted. it ran with the check engine light on and the cruise control inopertable. idle was rough at low and higher rpm's. after about six restarts throughout the day the check engine light went out but the cruise control is still inopertable. one week later it stalled at idle during cold weather warm up with the same results following as before. the vehicle was purchased used from a dealer less than a week prior to the incident with 84,879 mi. a background check through autocheck was conducted prior to purchase with no major finding reported on this specific vehicle. from investigations through multible websites, this issue is common with this vehicle for several years. i have check the recall reports by vin # and this vehicle does not fall in the production catagory of manufacture recall but has the exact same symtoms for a recall. this is a major safety concern if the vehicle stalls on a rural highway with no shoulder to safely pullover. *tr

2006 jeep commander. consumer writes in regards to reprogram final drive controller module recall notice and seeks reimbursement for repairs. *smd the consumer stated the vehicle shifted into neutral at the bottom of a hill and would not move out of neutral. she had the vehicle towed to a local repair shop who informed her there was a problem with the transfer case and recommended replacement. the consumer stated she was unaware of the final drive controller module software issue at the time. the recall notice was issued in may 2013, but she wasn't notified until september. the consumer submitted the documents along with the contact information from the repair shop, only to be told she was not eligible for reimbursement, because it was not the same issue as the recall described. she asked for clarification on the factors contributing to that determination and was informed the repair shop could not verify the issue caused by the drive controller module.
While driving down the road, the entire cluster of instrument warning lights begins to flash intermittently, creating a distraction and safety hazard while driving. in addition, the fuel gauge drops to "e", the speedometer drops to zero and then goes up and down and all gauges go up and down erratically. also, the heated seats turn off as does the fan for the heater/ac unit. verified with local mechanic that this is not related to the ignition switch and is most likely an ecm and/or pcm issue. replaced battery but problem still exists. engine malfunction indicator light comes on for several cycles, computer reboots itself and then the trouble starts again shortly after. this appears to be an ongoing issue with the 06 commander but my vin was not included in the ecm/pcm recall (08v203000) because i have the 6-cylinder rather than the 8 cylinder engine. this is a safety hazard while driving and i just feel fortunate that as of yet, my car is not stalling like so many others. however, i feel my issue is related to this same recall and want to have it on file. *tr

Our jeep doesn't stay in gear, to back up out of driveway must go from reverse to neutral several times to engage. also will slip from drive to neutral while driving. there have been many, many, times that our jeep doesn't know it is in park or neutral and will not start until you mess for along time with shifter. contact was made with dealers in area and they state our vin. isn't part of recall. when driving our jeep has put itself into neutral but shifter is in drive position... please help us.. *tr
I was driving down a neighborhood street and re-adjusted my seating position. while driving, my knee slightly bumped the key and turned off my car while it was in drive. i then lost power steering and power brakes. luckily i was moving slowly and could pull over and stop the car. i then tested it again in a parking lot and i determined that my jeep shuts off every time i move the key with my knee, even while driving. potentially very dangerous. *tr
My jeep commander 2006 shifts automatically to neutral while driving, you feel a strong pull and a loud sound coming from the engine, suddenly the car is in neutral and the gas pedal doesn't work even if pressing it. the check engine light turns on for 2 or 3 days. this problem can cause a fatal accident if this happens while driving at a higher speed, i'm scared to drive this car. i took this car to get the transmission fixed twice and i still have the same problem, it is clearly not a transmission problem now that i think about it. also the dash lights and headlights start flashing while driving, including the ac it shuts off while lights are flashing. i called chrysler to let them know about this problem and they said my car doesn't have a recall, i don't know what else to do, i've spent more than 5,000 dlls trying to fix something that cannot be fixed, i need help! *tr
