All dash indicator lights would blink on and off; two times engine cut-off while driving on highway ( drivers knee was not near ignition key as a cause that has been blamed ). faulty ignition switch was diagnosed and replaced at authorized dealer [ monroeville chrysler jeep, monroeville pa., may 28,2013 ] at my expense. no problems since repair. recall notice p41 /nhtsa 14v-438 for ignition switch received sept 2014. documentation of repair for reimbursement was provided as per requested information in recall notice. chrysler customer assistance is refusing to reimburse ($211.45). *tr
Traveling at highway speed the blower motor cut off and the lights on that come on when you first turn the key on came on. when that cycle was over the cruise control came on and the vehicle rapidly accelerated. had to turn the key off to kill the cruise control. this problem with the key hasn't happened while traveling down the road before only while sitting in park. when we purchased the vehicle they replaced the key saying it was the key causing the problem. the problem continued after the key was replaced. *tr
i was driving and had to stop behind another driver who was making a left hand turn. i was on a slight incline. when they turned i began to accelerate. this is when i encountered my problem. i had to push the accelerator to the floor. it was as if the car shifted into neutral. thinking this was strange i looked on my dashboard to make sure the car was still in drive. what i found when i looked was that all the gears were highlighted. at this point the car still wouldn't go over 20-25mph. (i was on a 45mph road on a very busy monday.) i gently moved my gear shift and that put my gear back into drive. a few seconds later i look at my dashboard and all the gears were briefly highlighted and then it went back to just the drive gear highlighted. i took it in to an authorized jeep dealer the next day and was told that i needed a new shifter module/bezel. i believe this is a safety hazard and something the chrysler company should of known about and put a recall out on this vehicle. i called chrysler and was only told that there are recalls out on jeep commanders for it slipping into neutral but that my vehicle was not part of said recall. although the gear on my car shifted into neutral when i had it in drive. the recall also states that vehicles manufactured between certain dates should be considered for the recall. my car falls into those dates. i had to pay $829.00 for a part and $209.98 for labor and $14.70 for shop supplies. this brought my total to $1,127.44. i do not understand how a part could cost me this much? am i the only owner with this problem? i got the problem fixed and the vehicle runs fine now. i am wanting chrysler to admit that this is a defect on their part and reimburse me for the total sum stated above. *tr
Was going to get gas turned on the engine would not turn over lights would not work. tried to jump the the truck and it still would not start. it looks like it might be an electrical issue. *tr
I was driving down the highway at 55mph. and out of nowhere the car rpm's dropped to 0 and the car died. as i pumped on the gas i looked in the rearview to make sure i was not going to get hit. after that i turned the car off in the middle of the highway and put on my hazards. it then turned on and after will go to 2 rpm's and then start to jerk back and forth. i have taken it to the dealership 3 times so far and as of now the 3rd time and 3rd with a rental it finally happened to the mechanic at the dealership. and he has no clue his words. so in a two week frame time i have only had my jeep 4 days why because they cant even figure out the problem. i have reported it to chrysler dealership and checked for a recall and they said there is no recall as of yet. i worry because this could cause a accident and typically i have my wife and two children in the jeep with me. if u go to carcomplaints.com and look up. this model u will see there are up to 60 more incidents. but the dealership/chrysler has yet to do anything. hopefully it does not seriously harm the owner of the jeep or a person who hits them. *tr
On the evening of 5/04/2013 while driving on the highway at a rate of between 65 & 70 mph my headlights along with my entire dashboard and instrument panel begin flickering and eventually went out! i pulled over turned the engine off and restarted it the headlight came on immediately, however the instrument panel flickered for a bit then eventually illuminated. went into autozone (@#$%) got a reading, was told it was a minor issue and to get it checked out. a couple days go by really not driving it much a little nervous, however when starting the vehicle none of the instrument panel is working, thy tachometer needle, the speedometer nothing, however the engine was running and it would shift in and out of gear, but it would jerk and stall and whenever i tried to make a left or right turn the brakes would grind and screech! "yites" thank god, we have another vehicle! anyway i called a local chrysler dealership and was told that i would have to be charged a diagnostic fee of $130.00 for each component tested??? really! anyway it gets better i called chrysler-jeep manufacturer and they told me that although my car was doing exactly what millions of other recalled commanders made in the same year 2006 were doing, my "vin" number wasn't on the recall list, gooooo figure! so yeah, although my jeep shifts in and out of gear on the highway, cluster board and headlights flicker off and it stalls like it going to shut off! no cigar! i guess i'll bring to where i purchased it from and use my "max care warranty" god give me the strength! *tr

My 2006 commander stopped accelerating in fact it felt like i was driving against a wind blowing headon faster then i was driving ,then the jeep started jumping like a hick-up then my tail lights stopped working and lower dash lights went out and my warning lights in dash came on,the vehicle stalls out at idle or at start of acceleration not very good took to dealer was told i need a new front control module and new cooling fan ,nwe speed relay costing $1063.00 im not to sure about it and they tell me that it has no recall ?? *tr
Normal start up and driving. all dash lights, head lights, warning lights began blinking on and off very quickly for a few minutes until jiggling the ignition key a few times got all lights to stay on and warning lights to stay off. car continued to run at the 35 miles per hour. gauges were going from 0 to normal readings during this same time period. this has happened several times since this first incident. did not notice quickly enough if the air bag lights were going on and off also but suspect that they were. all were in and out of alarm. *tr
I purchased my 2006 jeep commander from city auto in memphis, tn on 9/14/11 and was told it was a one-owner vehicle originating from the state of pennsylvania. i noticed hesitation in the transmission and variances (rough - up and down) in the idling shortly after my purchase. i then started to get the "transmission/engine" light coming on. but it would go away almost as quick as it would come on. i then had my engine stall while driving full speed on the interstate. i lost all power! fortunately, i was able to get over to the shoulder safely! we immediately started doing some research on various forums, including jeep forum, on the "stalling issue" and "lights coming on intermittently". my husband took it to our local autozone and they hooked it up to their coding scanner machine. it gave us the code to change the map sensor needed to be changed. my husband changed this out last summer (2013). it helped for a little bit. :( then began having the same issues, stalling out while driving, check engine light coming on/off and rough idling. husband went back and had them hook up to coding machine and this time was given the code for o2 sensor, which he purchased and changed out. now it's worse than ever! it won't even stay idled. it stalls almost immediately! i have to keep my foot on the gas (and brake when needed) all the time! if i let it go below 1000rpms it dies! we took it to a mechanic & was told the pcm was bad. but he told us that there were recalls that may fix the issue. so we took it to a dealership who performed the recall but unfortunately it did not fix the problems. this is a very expensive "fix" to a problem that appears to have never have been resolved properly by the manufacturer!! this needs to be addressed by the manufacturer as it is a major driving & safety hazard! *tr
I was driving and the car engine light came on and then the car started to lose accelerating at 60 mph and i had to pull to the side of the ride and re start the car and i was on the freeway going to work which is very dangerous can someone please help this is the car that i use everyday to go to work and i only had just car for almost 2 years and when i purchase a car i expect that it will last for me while i'm making the payments and i have 3 more years to pay on the car i don't know what to do about the issue. i have let the dealership only work on my car since i purchase the vehicle. chrysler performs all my oils changes tune up and everything that i need to have down and its not fair that the truck was discontinue i feel like the company knows that the truck is having the problems and nobody wants to do anything about it. *tr
My 2006 jeep commander seemed to lose power or shift to neutral while driving on the interstate. it has happened to me 2 times. i had my 3 children traveling in the vehicle with me one of those times. i had to recrank the vehicle while driving. it comes without warning. when i saw recall n23 i was relieved that i would have recourse to have this repaired, but when i call today, they tell me my vehicle is not covered and i would have to pay out of my own pocket for any repairs because chrysler determined my vehicle wasn't covered. i have recently had other problems with this vehicle, that i now see many other owners have had. the door handles are all broken from flimsy plastic. it requires the whole door panel to be replaced to repair. also i am now having starting problems that are unable to be diagnosed. i have been a proud jeep owner and have enjoyed this vehicle however, now i am very disappointed by chrysler. i will not be a repeat customer. *tr

2006 jeep commander. consumer writes in regards to vehicle transfer case motor actuator recall notice and seeks compensation for repairs. *smd the consumer stated the service 4wd system warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where they replaced the transfer case motor actuator at a cost of $ 708.95. the consumer received a recall notice, several months later and applied for compensation under the recall. however, chrysler informed the consumer that a fix for the recall had not been found and he would received another recall notice when the decision was made on how to fix the problem. in september, the consumer received a second recall notice and contacted chrysler about his compensation. he was assigned another case number and was informed the refund would be paid out in four weeks. in later october, he again contacted chrysler about the status of his refund. he was informed, the claim was denied since it had nothing to do with the shifting into neutral addressed in the recall.
I was in vehicle getting into car, care was on already, and the gear jumped from park to reverse since i still had door open i fell from care while vehicle continued in reverse from garage till it crashed into fire hydrant, recall was just received a month ago in regards......( a transfer case electrical failure may result in an unintentional shifting of the transfer case into the neutral position,in this case it was in park and jumped to reverse causing the accident and injury to me as i fell out of the car. *tr
I was slowing down to make a right hand turn and the car shut off couldn't get it started had to have it towed and had to have ignition switch and assy. replaced. *tr
Vehicle is a 2006 jeep commander 4x4 limited with the 4.7l engine. vehicle has suddenly stalled 4 times while driving in the last 6-8 weeks. vehicle stalled while backing out of parking space, driving 15-20 mph on a city street, while idling at a stop sign, and while accelerating from a stop light. these are the first occurrences in the 4 years we have owned the vehicle. *tr

2006 jeep commander. consumer writes in regards to reprogram final drive controller module recall notice and seeks reimbursement for repairs. *smd the consumer stated the vehicle shifted into neutral at the bottom of a hill and would not move out of neutral. she had the vehicle towed to a local repair shop who informed her there was a problem with the transfer case and recommended replacement. the consumer stated she was unaware of the final drive controller module software issue at the time. the recall notice was issued in may 2013, but she wasn't notified until september. the consumer submitted the documents along with the contact information from the repair shop, only to be told she was not eligible for reimbursement, because it was not the same issue as the recall described. she asked for clarification on the factors contributing to that determination and was informed the repair shop could not verify the issue caused by the drive controller module.
The engine stalls and the head lights fail while my son is driving the car. we have gotten several recall notices. the latest tells us the parts are in and go to the local dealer. no. they don't have the part. we are frustrated and demand we get the ignition switch and lock cylinder replaced. do your part dodger chrystal jeep.
While driving down the road, the entire cluster of instrument warning lights begins to flash intermittently, creating a distraction and safety hazard while driving. in addition, the fuel gauge drops to "e", the speedometer drops to zero and then goes up and down and all gauges go up and down erratically. also, the heated seats turn off as does the fan for the heater/ac unit. verified with local mechanic that this is not related to the ignition switch and is most likely an ecm and/or pcm issue. replaced battery but problem still exists. engine malfunction indicator light comes on for several cycles, computer reboots itself and then the trouble starts again shortly after. this appears to be an ongoing issue with the 06 commander but my vin was not included in the ecm/pcm recall (08v203000) because i have the 6-cylinder rather than the 8 cylinder engine. this is a safety hazard while driving and i just feel fortunate that as of yet, my car is not stalling like so many others. however, i feel my issue is related to this same recall and want to have it on file. *tr
My car was turning off when driving. i had the ignition switch replaced and paid for it. i received a recall notice in september 2014 that the ignition switch was recalled. i sent in my receipt and paperwork from the chrysler dealership that fixed my jeep on 9/22/2014. it says you will be reimbursed within 60 days. they received my receipt and told me the part was on back order. i said it doesn't matter because my jeep was fixed on 11/15/2012. it has been over 6 months and i still have not received my $108.30 refund. this part is still not available and it has been over 6 months, since my car was repaired and i proved it with my receipt i want my money refunded. *tr
The vehicle will suddenly lose power to the headlights, taillights, instrument panel, speedometer, odometer, and the interior some lights will turn themselves on without cause or warning. in the most recent event, vehicular damage and possible personal injury nearly occurred when driving in the dark, almost striking a utility pole. also, the automatic window control will not function properly when trying to roll up the window itself. it will stop halfway and bring itself back down. it usually takes 3-4 times to roll the window up. this has occurred numerous times, so many that i can't keep track. the local dealership cannot pinpoint the issue and this vehicle is not safe to be on the road. *tr
2006 jeep commander. consumer writes in regards to transfer case actuator recall notice. *smd the consumer stated the vehicle slipped into neutral, leaving her stranded on the highway. she was unable to drive the vehicle, so it had to be towed to the dealer. a week prior, the dealer inspected the vehicle and informed the consumers husband a new transmission was needed and the cost would be between 5,000 and 6,000 dollars. the consumer went to an independent repair shop, where the transmission was replaced.
Interior and exterior lights will intermittently go off and on at the same time. on a freeway at 65mph this is not acceptable. *tr
Just dropped my children off - on my way to work again - going approx 40-45 mph..... all of a sudden i feel a slight jerk and my car completely shuts off. (key still in on position-so no, my knee did not hit the keys) brakes - electrical - engine - all went out. i coasted to the side of the road. waited about 10 mins after speaking with my husband - started it back up engine light was on.... i p laced my hazards on and proceeded to continue down the road - at this point i am approx 15-20 miles from work. *tr

While driving at aprox 45mph, with no warning my jeep stalled out leaving me with no power anything. after 5 minutes started up with check engine light on. tried to get it to my home about 5 minutes away stalled again without warning. did manage to get it home this however is not the only time this has happened, started happening in may 2012 samething. had it towed to dealer which they charged me $234 to find nothing wrong with it and 11/2weeks with no vehicle. this is very dangerous how at any speed vehicle stalls with no warning!!!!! i should add i just had the flash recall done on the vehicle for the otc module on 4/13/12. *js
Our jeep doesn't stay in gear, to back up out of driveway must go from reverse to neutral several times to engage. also will slip from drive to neutral while driving. there have been many, many, times that our jeep doesn't know it is in park or neutral and will not start until you mess for along time with shifter. contact was made with dealers in area and they state our vin. isn't part of recall. when driving our jeep has put itself into neutral but shifter is in drive position... please help us.. *tr
I was driving down a neighborhood street and re-adjusted my seating position. while driving, my knee slightly bumped the key and turned off my car while it was in drive. i then lost power steering and power brakes. luckily i was moving slowly and could pull over and stop the car. i then tested it again in a parking lot and i determined that my jeep shuts off every time i move the key with my knee, even while driving. potentially very dangerous. *tr

October, 2013 received notification that there was a safety recall on my 2006 jeep commander. (as i have 6 children, this was a priority to have fixed) i brought my jeep into the dealership to have the n23 safety recall performed. come january, 2014 i attempt to activate my 4 wheel low and i get a service light stating "service 4wd". i contact the dealership who had performed the recall and bring it in to be looked at. they run a diagnosis and determine the truck has an internal short in the transfer case. the service tech advised me it is related to the recall but he can not do anything at the dealer level. i need to call chrysler customer service who tells me they will not be doing anything to help. upon a little research (jeep forums) it seems there are many (many) others with the same issues. i am sure i am not the only one to call jeep with this issue and if you clear the codes the 4 wheel low engages so it is not a short. i believe chrysler jeep should look into what was performed with the n23 recall and determine how it effected the 4 wheel low on these vehicles. then reprogram them to work, as they were, at no cost to the owner. since this was a safety recall i felt i had no option but to have the recall performed on my vehicle now i have a faulty vehicle. dealer tells me they need to update 4 wheel drive but cant do it because it is not in the recall this has gone on for way 2 long . i am going to file a complaint with the better business and i ask everyone with this same problem do it also please complain somewhere so something can be done. *tr
Driver side floor has had approx 1-2 inches of water after raining on multiple occasions. local jeep dealer said the sunroof drain was clogged. this has never happened while driving, only when the vehicle is parked. it's pretty pricey to have these drains unclogged and from reading all the other complaints about this same problem on edmunds, it is a consistent service that needs done. i am very frustrated because this sounds like a defect on chrysler's part, but nothing has been done about it. when this water floods my floor it stinks in the vehicle. i also notice flies and gnats. i am afraid of mold, dry rot and electrical issues. my radio is going out and i believe the water has something to do with this. i never had problems with the radio until this started. the screen is no longer clear, the gps doesn't work, the uconnect hands free doesn't work properly anymore and the radio randomly changes stations on its own. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that the front driver and passenger's side door handles failed. in addition, the instrument panel failed and the contact was not able to determine what speed he was traveling or the amount of gasoline fuel in the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised the contact that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 57,000.
The air conditioner made a loud noise and then smoke began pouring out of the engine compartment. i observed smoke coming from the air conditioner compressor. i had to put the fire out with water. *tr
My jeeps cuts off going about 70 mph down the highway. i have had to stafford jeep in winchester va 4 times and they can not seem to find the problem. the was a recall on the pcm module but they assure me that the recall was done correctly. now the jeep had throttle control issues. it will speed up and lose power. this has cause other issues as now my jeep is mis firing. stafford jeep wants to charge me for all of this and i believe it has something to do with the control modules. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that while at a complete stop, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated that the wiring in the starter would have to be replaced. additionally, the exterior lighting intermittently failed and the front driver side window intermittently failed while being opened or closed. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

There is a serious electrical problem with the suv which started within . the dealers looked at it, i paid for computer diagnostics and still nothing. besides all the lights flashing on and off, the speedometer fluctuating, actually all the instruments going on and off while i am driving; also, the temperature control panel does not light up when the headlights are on. i have never had an automobile with all these electrical problems that no one can fix. please recall this vehicle before someone dies. i try not to drive long distances alone because of this problem. *tr
2006 jeep commander 4.7l. instrument panel lights all flash randomly on and speedometer fluctuates up and down, occasionally radio shuts off too when this cycle happens. loss of power and car stalls without warning at low speed. *js
