We have classified the 679 complaints from 2015 Jeep Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
On 06/04/16, at 12,600 miles, the jeep failed completely on the freeway. we were driving 50 mph in heavy southern ca traffic when the 'transmission service required' light and the red check engine light flashed on and we lost all power. this happened instantly and without any warning. we had to throw on the hazard lights and dodge oncoming traffic to move over 3 lanes to exit the freeway at less than 5 mph. this was a terrifying experience and we are lucky the jeep did not cause a major accident! the tustin jeep dealership did a software update and said it was fine. fca has remained adamant that the problem is not mechanical, but software related and have released 3 software patches to date but we see no improvement. one week later on 06/13/16 the transmission was still functioning poorly (hard shifts, up shifting as you apply the break downhill, etc.) and then we had another problem. the alarm went off without warning and would not shut off, even when the jeep's engine was turned on. only after several minutes and pushing every button on the key multiple times did it finally stop. we took it to placentia jeep and they looked into the transmission and alarm. after having our jeep for a week, they did yet another software update for the transmission and disconnected the gps. they explained that the gps that was installed at the dealer after the fact was interfering with the factory installed alarm, and that caused the alarm to go off at random. this is a big problem because we were charged $1295 extra for that feature and it is now disconnected. the dealer also found that the battery power was below half, and they felt that the radio was pulling from the battery even when the jeep is turned off. they found no resolution for this problem and asked us to return after a week or two to reassess the problems.
Transmission has failed twice in less than 100 miles. we are on our thrid transmission
Check engine light came on related to thermostat liftgate has been leaking since the beginning transmission is slipping or dragging constantly
The transmission slips, stalls, hesitates at acceleration at any speed. particularly worrisome when traveling on highways when it jeopardizes our safety! happens continually despite the jeep dealerships attempts to repair. still telling us it is a software issue and a day after service problem continues. no fix.
1. delay in finding gear when accelerating on a downslope cause a sudden bucking of the vehicle into far lane of traffic. 2. sudden downshift on highway caused rapid deceleration in high speed traffic. 3. jerky shifting between gears continuously.
Third time same issue. 2015 jeep cherokee. while vehicle in motion service transmission, service park brake, malfunction indicator light, d(drive) flashing on dashboard, barely made it up a hill, had to press accelerator all the way to floor. very dangerous-other vehicles do not know what is happening. occured 2 times in 2weeks after software updated. not many regrets in my life but buying this vehicle tops the list.
My 2015 jeep cherokee latitude has a v-6 motor and the 9 speed transmission. my problem is with the shifting of the transmission. the transmission will shift hard and with a terrible jolt that actually moves me in my seat. this has been occurring for the last 3 years, since 2016, the hard shift occurs upon acceleration from a stop and between 1st 2nd 3 gear, . this normally happen at a normal accerlating speed hardly ever happens when i am accerlating at high speed. this hard shifting seems to happen like i said during slow speed accerlating and and driving in slower city traffic. it feels like the transmisson could break at any time because of the terrible jerking , jolting, and harshness of the shift. this hard shifting as been going on continually for the last 3 years ago. i bought this jeep brand new in 2015 and this has been an habitually problem for the last 3 years. this happens on a regular basis this is not an intermitten problem.
The rough shifting in low gears is an annoyance the trans disengaging in an accelerated left turn was a near miss crash. it's happened twice now and i've determined the conditions under which it happens. in both cases the conditions have been the same. conditions: i live in a city with heavy traffic. travel on a two lane road to my home and it is at a crawling pace. i have to turn left into sub. there is opposing traffic & limited openings to turn. you have to "hit it" to make your left turn between the opposing traffic cars (no stop light). when you hit it, the engine revs in that low gear and you are now into the opposing lane and you have seconds where you seem like you're just floating (no transmission engaged) through that lane. the opposing car is still coming at you. the trans finally jerks and engages and you squeal your tires to quickly get out of the way and not get hit. it's close enough that the opposing car beeps it's horn at you. it's bad, when you don't trust your vehicle (only 1 year old) to another person. i worry for their safety! i'm dissatisfied with the vehicle only because of the transmission. if i had my way, i'd be giving it back to the dealership.
The problem is in the transmission, when sitting at a stop light for instant, you had better keep your foot on the brake, it will sometimes try to lurch forward, also just sitting at a light you will hear a very loud clunk, like it just down-shifted, these transmissions are junk.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. two years ago, the contact purchased the vehicle "as is" and with a short thirty day warranty. while attempting to accelerate, the contact heard a hard knock in the engine, which was possibly caused by the transmission. in addition, the vehicle shifted out of different gears. the vehicle was taken to the dayton andrews dodge chrysler jeep ram (3613, 2301 34th st n, st. petersburg, fl 33713, (727) 321-0500) to be diagnosed. the manufacturer was contacted. the failure mileage and vin were unknown.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. after the vehicle was parked, it independently rolled back without warning and was pinned between the garage door and rear of the vehicle. the contact sustained bruises, but did not require medical attention. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v240000 (power train) after the failure was experienced. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for investigation. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 11,700.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while parked and the engine turned off, the vehicle rolled independently over a hill and jumped the curb and crashed into a ditch. the vehicle was occupied with a front seat passenger, who sustained injuries to both legs and neck that required medical attention. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where the front end damages were repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 2,891. updated 08/02/16*lj *tr
The transmission jerks sometimes upon starting; loses power at times going up hill; seems to decelerate or be out of the right gear. it may also lose power when making a turn into traffic when you put the foot on the accelerator. it does not seem to shift gears smoothly at times. it is scary when you are trying to accelerate and it loses power.
My vehicle jerks forward after stopping, increases speed while slowing down on a hill, feels like the transmission is going to shoot out from under the car. i feel very unsafe driving it.
The vehicle has had shifting issues. while driving it will begin to jerk like it wants to shift on its own. the most recent and terrifying incident was today as i was attempting to cross four lanes of highway. the vehicle was not wanting to shift or accelerate and it was jerking again. i've taken it in once before for this issue and the dealership can not find anything wrong because they can not duplicate the codes. this is a serious safety concern for all but especially myself, as i have to cross this highway daily.
Car has all sorts of transmission problems from shifting clunking slamming into gears car won't recognize that it's in park and won't turn off liftgate opens and closes by itself recently opened and smashed my garage door in the liftgate radio won't work gps says i'm in wyoming
My cherokee has never driven 100% since the first day i got it. it hesitates and jerks forward when initially accelerating, jerks to a stop or when parking and shakes when initially starting the car and vibrates. over the last 6 months the car has completely died on me twice, the second time being just this morning. it is a brand new car; there is no reasonable explanation as to why this is happening other than the new 9 speed transmissions that chrysler produced are insufficient and have not been thoroughly tested before putting consumers behind the wheel. the cars battery light flashed on my dashboard and then the car slowed to a stop and completely cut off. the dash told me to put my car in park and then shift back to drive but i couldn't do anything. there is no way the battery or engine is an issue so i have no idea what is causing this problem other than a faulty computer in the car. i have had the software updated and flashed and yet here we are again having the same problem that seems to puzzle the service department. they have given me a laundry list of bologna reasonings as to why the car drives the way it does and why this and that are happening but yet no fix for them. it is absolutely insane to me that because there have been no significant injuries or deaths due to these transmission issues that no recall or anything has been released. i have done my fair share of research on transmission issues in the 2015 cherokees and have sadly found 100's of complaints from consumers yet still no solid fix or answer to these peoples problems. how chrysler is getting away with this blows my mind. these cars are virtually death traps just waiting to happen. i don't feel safe driving this car anymore and something needs to be done.
Problem 1: parked car in garage - went to restart & put in reverse numerous error messages which said cannot engage 4wd, check engine, check transmission; restart and put in reverse again; each time i restarted as instructed and put in reverse transmission jerked hard. started 3 times each time the same response. called dealer who sent 2 mechanics - taken to dealership; car now needs new transmission. problem 2: horn goes off for no apparent reason while driving. does not stop when vehicle shuts off. serviced three times by dealership (computer updates and part). don't know if last fix worked since the car is now disabled due to transmission.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph, the transmission slipped gears violently. the failure became progressively worst. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and was being diagnosed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 26,000.
Service transmission warning light comes on under normal driving, then transmission 'disengages', leaving no power. must coast to the side of the road. this has happen twice on a freeway. transmission has been serviced twice, including a new 'flash' of the software. in for a third time now.
Intermittent rough shifting, slamming into gear during upshift from 2nd to 3rd gear. happens randomly, from moving in a parking lot at 10mph to passing on the interstate. the gear slam is so intense it feels like i've been rear-ended.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 60 mph, the service transmission warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle failed to accelerate over 60 mph. the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 11,235.
Vehicle has jerky, harsh shifts in lower gears went accelerating or turning. it has made the tires churp a few times shifting into lower gears when accelerating or turning. sometimes hangs out in 2nd or 3rd gears and will not shift for 4 to 5 seconds. when shifting from park to drive, it sometimes takes 3 to 4 seconds for drive to engage. when at cruising speed, it runs at 1000 to 1200 rpm causing it to vibrate and shake because it won't downshift when i give it gas. sometimes when starting the vehicle i'll shift from park to drive and it won't engage and tell me to "shift to p then desired gear". been to dealer 2 separate times for software updates, 3rd time was told that's just how the vehicle runs, 4th time replaced the valve body on the transmission twice because the first one didn't work, 5th time they replaced the whole transmission, and 6th time was told that is just how the vehicle runs again. none of this "fixes" have done anything to make it any better. with all these issues, this is a very unsafe vehicle to drive. it's only a matter of time before this vehicle is the cause of a accident.
Vehicle regularly has delayed shifting, loss of acceleration, etc. during regular traffic conditions. this has been very dangerous on multiple occasions during traffic merges and crossings with near collisions. the transmission itself in the new cherokee is an overly complicated and poorly performing product that fca and its dealers refuse to fix. it's only a matter of time until my cherokee's transmission fails and/or causes an accident.
The jeep lunges and surges at any point of a drive. while in reverse the jeep acculturates without having my foot on the gas. the jeep will go from 1k rev to 2k without foot on gas. this has caused a fender bender. jeep has updated the software 4-5 times and now says it drives the way it should
We have had our jeep into dealer 4 times now for the transmission not being right. the first time with 5500 miles on it. it has issues with hesitation when trying to get on free way. sometimes it will get up to speed other times it has a delay very scary. 8 have also experienced it rev out 3600 rpm for no reason. it also has a delay in shifting from a stop on a hill. when you give it gas it goes but not before it lunges forward. vehicle shift rough or lunges intermittent that what is so scary about this vehicle you have no idea when it is going to drive properly. each time at the dealer they were un able to verify problem until this last time. tech went on test drive and when merging on freeway did experience hesitation. also service advisor experienced the lunging when he pulled vehicle up for us. however his experience doesn't matter since he is not a tech.
My 2015 jeep cherokee has been having transmission problems since i bought the vehicle in nov '14. when coming to a stop sign, the transmission would jump into lower gear causing the vehicle to lunge forward. however, more dangerously, upon coming to a near stop and accelerating, the transmission will very sluggishly move the vehicle forward, then rapidly accelerate causing the tires to break traction and "peel out". i have nearly been in four accidents because of this issue, two because the transmission wouldn't accelerate, and the other two because i almost lost control of the vehicle as the front tires spun out of control. this is completely unacceptable and is a clear safety hazard. i have had my jeep at a dealership for warranty service on this matter twice now, with absolutely zero corrective actions. on both occasions, they "updated the transmission software" but the problem still existed. today, while driving home from work, i attempted a left hand turn with no oncoming traffic. the transmission, with the engine at 2,500 rpms, very slowly moved the vehicle, then it spun out the front tires almost colliding me with a school bus waiting to make a right turn. this transmission is dangerous, jeep does not have an adequate fix to this problem, and my vehicle warranty is about to expire. i could care less about the expiration, i would be willing to pay several thousand dollars to fix this issue, but it doesn't appear that jeep has an adequate fix to the problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving 45 mph, the transmission began to shift improperly and hard shifted intermittently. also, the steering wheel vibrated without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission and the steering column needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 1,200.
Since purchasing this vehicle, the transmission is very sluggish. when attempting to accelerate from a yield (not full stop) the transmission will refuse to engage for up to 3 seconds. when it does engage, it jerks and causes the vehicle to lunge.
From a stop, you push gas with no respose, then you reach a point where it finally takes off, this has caused other drivers to brake when making a turn into their lanes. while driving, and attempting to pass, you push on the gas, no response until you reach the point where it takes off. sometimes i have to return to my lane because traffic has reached me causing unsafe condition, and causing others in that lane to brake to avoide hitting me. while highway driving, the tranny rumbles and is sluggish to accerlerate, seems to be 7th gear, you keep pushing pedal down until you are finally shifted into passing gear. when putting in park, a second goes by and you hear a loud clunk. dealer reports these issues to be normal for the 9 speed tranny, we did software update. no change! sometimes when you take your foot off the gas, the car accerates on its own .... almost like it down shifted and the gear ratio made it take off. this has caused me to almost rear end others. kbb has many similar complaints. noticed all of these issue after owning the vehicle for 3 months, about 4k miles on the vehicle.
While driving at highway speeds, the transmission would not shift from 7th gear.pulled over and turned the car off for a few minutes. when restating the car, problem went away, but then happened again in the same situation 20 minutes later. took it immediately to the dealer and they re-flashed tcm & pcm and did a quick learn. all seemed good, but a few weeks later, the car started hard shifting in low gears and reverse. when coming to a slow stop and accelerating, the car will take a few seconds to get the rpm's up and then lunge forward as it catches the gear. went back to the dealer and they did the same as before, tcm, pcm and quick learn. a few days later, the same problem started happening again. dealership says all software is up to date and have no other ideas to fix the issue. definitely a safety concern, especially when making left turns from close to a stop (ie. left turn yield lights).
2015 jeep grand cherokee. consumer writes in regards to transmission jerks when slowing down or when vehicle comes to a stop. *smd the vehicle was causing the consumer to experience motion sickness. upon slowing down the consumer was able to feel the gears downspout causing the vehicle to jerk. the consumer was informed the vehicle was operating as designed. the consumer traded in the vehicle. updated 04/04/2017 *js
The vehicle transmission shift quality is erratic! occupants experience lurching and bucking sensation at low speeds in both forward and reverse motions. this results in a potential safety concern for pedestrians in addition to an unsafe and uncomfortable ride in the vehicle. an unmistakeable consequence is the impairment in value of this vehicle in reference to resale. the dealership has attempted to remedy the stated issue on several occasions with no success. the dealership has also on multiple occasions stated that future software upgrades will alleviate the shift quality issue of this 9-speed automatic transmission but has yet to deliver any such remedy. please advise! *js
Car software was updated, now when my car does not shift going up hills , it loses power making a turn from a stopped position, and it lunges occasionally when stopping in traffic.
Parked vehicle at my place of business, got out, walked inside. while inside i heard a thump, when i opened the door to go back outside the vehicle was two feet fromm the door and the bumper up against a propane tank. the vehicle was stationary when i got out and was for a few minutes, i know this because i have cctv camera video. the vehicle bumper has damage.
Vehicle is hesitating to find appropriate gear at very low to low speeds (0-20 mph). the result is the absence of smooth transition to the next higher or lower gear and frequent abrupt lunging of the vehicle in a forward direction. this seems to pose a safety concern for vehicle occupants and pedestrians in situations which involve parking and/or pedestrian right of way. this happens repeatedly and not only on date indicated below as required by this form. *js
I have hard shifting and noice from transmission ,,im under warantee but fca don't want to solve this problem
The transmission shifts rough in the lower 3 gears. the dealerships shop manager told us there is not a fix for it. there are software upgrades but they do not fix the problem. i have had one upgrade but it did nothing. the shop manager told me the newest upgrade make the transmission shift from 1st to 3rd, skipping 2nd. he also told me a replacement transmission would make it worse. 1st gear: the drivetrain engagement from a stop is interesting. some owners say it feels like it can take a full second from the moment they step on the gas to when the car actually starts moving. and once it does start moving, its a coin flip if youre going to steadily get up to speed or squeal some tires. 2nd gear: one of the most common complaints is how the 9-speed hangs out in 2nd gear far too long. 3rd gear: when the transmission finally shifts into 3rd gear it can be an aggressive, lurching transition. going from 2nd to 3rd gear is a great way to feel what whiplash feels like, without the inconvenience of having to get into an accident.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while driving 60 mph, the vehicle would not change gears when prompted and would not accelerate. in addition, there was an odor of burning rubber and a clicking noise from the transmission. the dealer could not duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 7,000.
My transmission has been slipping since i purchased the vehicle a year ago, (12-28-15) appx, they said they fixed the problem, but it has recently became worse that it was originally. when i'm stopped and then begin to start going again the car hesitates for about 3-5 seconds then it jerks and goes. it also seems to downshift on its own or not at all.
I noticed that when the automatic transmission would downshift from 5th to 4th gear, the car would lurch forward and begin to accelerate even when my foot was not on the pedal. soon afterward the transmission light came on. took it in on two separate occasions with no results. after the third service they replaced the entire transmission. when i picked my car up the lurching from 5th to 4th gear was gone, but a new and more aggressive lurch takes place every time it shifts from 2nd to 1st. i've also noticed what appears to be a vibration that was not present before the new transmission. after this 3rd service i decided to file a lemon law report
When taking off from a complete stop the jeep hesitates or has no power to wheels for 5- 10 seconds at a time. when pulling out into an intersection we have almost been hit numerous times because the vehicle will not move. the engine revs up but no power to the wheels. and once it does start to move it takes off and gives you whiplash. we have also experienced our transmission getting locked into an unknown gear and not shifting up or down. both of these instances have happened on highways and in city driving. our dealer replaced a relay the first time our ck engine light came on. the second time they replaced a tcm and flashed our computer and installed 5 software upgrades. the third time our ck engine light came on which was last week, they are now replacing our transmission. there is obvious no fix for this transmission issue and it's unbelievable that jeep would allow this well known safety issue to continue. this transmission is going to get someone hurt or killed. no doubt in my mind. when you pull out into an intersection and hit the accelerator and nothing happens and there's a tractor trailer headed straight for you, i'd like to know what jeep recommends you do?
Vehicle not shifting properly. will not down shift into second gear(stays in third gear) when starting up steep hills or when slowing for traffic signal that has changed to green before coming to a complete stop. stays in gear too long when entering highway on ramps, mostly when they are on an up hill incline. loud clunking sound when shifting from reverse to drive when not moving. i do not know the exact date that this started, but it was within the first year of ownership.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep cherokee. while attempting to accelerate from a traffic light, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, there was hesitation between the time the accelerator pedal was depressed and when the transmission engaged. also, on several occasions when the accelerator pedal was depressed, there was a hesitation and then the vehicle lunged forward. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 5,000.
We own the 2015 jeep cherokee sport that self accelerates with great force and also has horrible lagging issues taking off from a stop. the lack of acceleration which happens randomly is very scary! i have taken my jeep in several times which in most cases it is rarely driven and given back to me with barely any miles driven on it to have the problems present themselves. our jeep has been in for weeks at a time. started lemon law but because the jeep dealership hasn't recreated the problem (due to car sitting parked in their parking lot), jeep will not acknowledge the very frightening problems. these alarming issues have not been resolved even with extended amounts of time at dealership in service department (5 days, 10 days, etc). very scary!!!
We purchased our 2015 jeep cherokee new and within a few months of driving the jeep we started to notice what i would call horrible lag issues. the car would drive jerky and when the car was at a stop and you applied the gas to go, it would seem like it wasn't getting the gas and will have a hard time accelerating. we took the car in and they detected the problem and said they did a computer update. shortly after, the jeep started a very scary self acceleration where the car would accelerate on its own and take off without applying gas or having foot on gas pedal. the jeep would lunge so violently and it was hard to make it stop and tried to lunge thru the braking. i have taken the car back it several times as both of these issues happen and makes it very dangerous to drive. my daughter was almost in a horrible collision with a large truck and rear ended because the car was lagging so bad making a right hand turn from a red light. thankfully the truck was able to swerve around us and we didn't get hit. we initiated the lemon law on this jeep as it is too dangerous to drive. the jeep has been in for servicing many times and the problem has still not been resolved. i have googled this online and found other jeep owners with exact frightening concerns. very upsetting and dangerous. i have the documentation for all the times the car has been to service for this and they understand the problem and said they have other jeeps with same concerns.
When an operator slows down to 5mph to a yield sign or uncontrolled intersection, and then attempts to accelerate the jeep sticks in a higher gear such as 3rd gear or 4th and keeps at a constant 5mph speed as it enters an intersection. the operator notices this issue and presses the accelerator pedal harder to avoid getting hit by oncoming traffic. after a few seconds with the accelerator pedal pressed to the floor the jeep finally downshifts to 1st gear, squeals the tires and accelerates hard throwing the operator and occupants into the seat in a whiplash fashion. this all happens if the operator is not struck by an oncoming vehicle. operators this particular jeep cherokee are use to other vehicles that accelerates normally under this condition. the jeep has been into the local jeep dealership 4 times and they state "the jeep is acting as designed". a jeep care number has been assigned to the issue but nothing has been done to this date.
Vehicle has rolling stop condition (description given by jeep technician) which occurs between 1 and 3mph. vehicle comes to a rolling stop, transmission will stay in third gear and hold third gear. when the throttle pedal is depressed to complete a turn the vehicle will not move forward. then suddenly a violent transmission kick down occurs causing the car to downshift in to first gear causing the jeep to lunge forward and squeal the tires. dealership claims second gear has been eliminated in the software update causing this to happen. my jeep has been at the dealership four times. chrysler is now involved because crossing intersections while turning below four mph is unsafe and unpredictable when driving. when there are passengers in the car (extra weight) or a incline the condition is even worse. it seems everything happened after first software update was done. my jeep had no issues of any kind before this.
My 2015 jeep cherokee trailhawk transmission shudders, clunks and hesitates. some of the hesitations have lasted 4 seconds which is dangerous when you're in traffic and push the gas and get no response. the hesitation happens when you're slowing down for a turn and then push the gas. this appears to be in the third to second gears. the computer has been flashed several times. the dealer also did something to the torque converter. then the chrysler rep had the dealer reset the computer back to factory settings and said it was working according to design. it isn't fixed. it still clunks, shudders and hesitates but only for 2 seconds now. the problems started in the first 10,000 miles. i'll include 4 of the service records. i think there were 10 or more visits.
Rmp's spike when trying to stop lunging vehicle forward, coasting without cruise control on interstate at 70 vehicle rpm's jumped up causing it to increase speed lunging forward to 80 mph as if accelerator is pushed, letting off gas to slow down vehicle will lunge forward as if you were applying gas and rpm's jump up, if foot isn't on break you would hit someone, very unsafe to drive and has already almost caused me to hit someone 4 times. doesn't do it all the time it and is intermittent. problem has occurred approximately 6 times. has been to dealer over 30 days and only has 5,000 miles on it. they say can't duplicate the problem. very unsafe to drive and no one wants to fix problem. started happing at 2,000 miles.
