Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Service shifter light suddenly turned on when driving on a city street, with all shifter lights on. pulled over and restarted engine, the light is gone.

As i am driving the service shifter flashes on dashboard , call dealer they never heard of it . put car in park turn engine off and waited . turn car on message disappears car runs but it still has a jerk when trying to shift into gear and not picking up speed but rpm show 3 and 4.

Within two minutes of starting the vehicle and driving it on the road, the vehicle was stall mid-traffic and become inoperable. the battery light then comes on with an error on screen with something to the effect of, "car must be in park in order to shift." turning the key does nothing until 3 minutes of causing a traffic hazard when the engine finally turns over. also the transmission has rough shifts at slow speeds causing the vehicle to suddenly jerk forward as if the gas was aggressively pushed down. this jerkiness to the transmission and speed has almost caused me to hit parked vehicles when trying to park the vehicle in a parking lot area.

I have a 2014 jeep cherokee latitude and today all of the lights were on on my shifter, it also was propelling it self forward while i had the break down it did three times while in the middle of the highway. yesterday i submitted a different complaint about the power train acting up. today the power train began to act up again while in the highway . it wasn't shifting and felt as if it was driving in neutral but at a very low speed while the rpm moved up and the speed didn't move at all. this is a serious safety concern especially considering that i am not the only one having issues.

Service transmission light came on while driving and lost power to the engine. could not accelerate. had to pull the car off the road. will not reset itself. the car is undriveable. 2014 jeep cherokee

I have a 2014 jeep cherokee with 71k miles. for more than 6 months i have noticed that the car takes a lot of effort to speed, and when it does the rpm is so high and it feels that the engine is going to burn out. it is like the gears are stucked. i took it to the dealer and they said that everything was good, except my engine mounts. i changed that; however, the problems continues. 5 days ago i had the service shifter message come up on my screen. it highlighted all my gears lights red and the screen was locked to service shifter. they said that everything was fine, but obviously the car have some issues with the transmission.

My problem started about two weeks ago when i went to put my car into reverse from park after having just started it and it drove forward instead of backwards. i had to put it back into park then back into reverse before it would go backwards (no i was not on a hill i was flat, the car was acting as though it was in drive instead of reverse). then it progressed to i went to change from park to drive and the engine just reved when the gas was pressed (acting as though it was in neutral) and i yet again had to put it back into park and turn it off to get it to go into the right gear. then it progressed to my battery not working properly and my car not wanting to start up right away. and it got even worse to the point my car now says i need service on the shifter. i have had this car for 9 months and i drive it 10 miles a day (to and from work combined) 5 days a week and hardly ever anymore than that. i had never had any problems with it before this week and now all these problems are popping up at once.

My jeep will jump forward uncontrollably while moving between 9-13 mph. when it happens, it sounds like a bomb going off in the transmission slamming gears down. this happens regularly and can not be controlled. often times this will happen with the shift lights are all red and you can not tell what gear you are in. i've had this shift module replaced multiple times and on the way home from the dealer will jump again.

My horn will not work at all nor the cruise control is not working at all as well. so is all of the controls on the steering wheel. also a low headlight went out and i may have a stuck clutch problem as well. i need all of this for my safety, my passengers, and my vehicle safely as well. i am requesting a recall so these matters can be straighten out as soon as possible. i don't know what's going to happen the next day, but i need these situations fixed as much as i can.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate over 20 mph. an independent mechanic stated that while running a test, a code came up indicating that the accelerator pedal assembly malfunctioned. the contact called breeden dodge chrysler jeep ram (5900 us-71 bus, fort smith, ar 72908 (479) 646-473) and informed the contact that the vin was not included in any recalls. the manufacturer was contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 56,444.

My vehicle was engaged in active use of cruise control, i had brand new tires, and something happened to the vehicle to where it caused an unsafe push of acceleration and the car lost traction on the road. the vehicle ended up rolling 125 feet off a small drop into a river. none of the airbags deployed despite having 13 points of impact. i had to extricate myself from the submerging vehicle. i the roads were paved with gravel on either side. i was traveling at 55mph, and following the curve of the road. *dt*jb

While accelerating on the highway, my vehicle engaged in to park. my vehicle wouldn't do anything but slow down to a roll. i was able to brake, but the vehicle became idle.

Purchased used november of 2017. has a little over 55,000 miles on it. have noticed that the transmission seems to take longer than it should to shift and sometimes doesn't shift up at all or will shift down or even to neutral sometimes while driving at higher speeds. also will lose power and then sometimes use a lot of power when not needed, causing the car to jerk or accelerate out of nowhere. happens very often and has been continually getting worse since i've purchased it. but severely noticed it on my last road trip about 6 weeks ago.

Multiple warning lights come on. want accelerate, hard gear shift, low voltage light. turns car off while driving.

I was driving on the highway and my check engine, transmission and park lights started flashing. my car wouldn't accelerate and my computer said 'service transmission'. now my car won't shift gears or accelerate. it has 40k miles on it.

While driving on a 4 lane highway at 65 mph the vehicle partially lost power and would not accelerate, up shift, or ownshift, the brake lights started flashing, along with many other lights on the dash including check engine. i pulled over to the side of the highway and shut off the jeep. i waited a minute then started it back up. the service parking brake message was on the message center, the odometer is blinking, and 4wd is temporarily unavailable. i had it looked at by a mechanic and they showed me the park brake module had water intrusion and was very much corroded.

Traveling on town road. the battery light came lit up on the control panel with a warning to put vehicle in park. engine completely shut off. gas pedal unresponsive. we pulled over to the side of the road. tried to restart vehicle several times over the course of 15+ minutes. vehicle finally restarted like normal. turned vehicle around by crossing over double yellow lines, put in reverse. vehicle completely shut off leaving us disabled across road, same warning and battery light on. engine finally restarted 10 minutes later. returned the vehicle safely home.

After transmission recall repair, engine replaced due transmission recall repair 3rd time, vehicle idles rough when in neutral, check engine light came on and jeep died. the vehicle started after a moment and the check engine light went off. still having same issues after transmission repaired and a new engine due to the dealership resetting the computer instead of repairing the transmission. so new engine and repaired transmission, still having issues. constant issue with the jeep idling roughly, sometimes not starting or stalling in traffic on the highway and city streets.

Hi i have brought my car into the dealership several times and continues to experience the same issues. when i drive (20-25 mph), the car jolts as if someone has hit me from behind almost as if the car is shifting or downshifting gears. when im approaching a stop light and gradually slowing down without my foot on either the gas or brake, the car jolts back and forth. this also occurs when im driving uphill and downhill around 20 mph. i am scared to drive my car as this is a risk that i will crash due to the shifting. i have brought the car in several times, they have told me they did a software update in which did not work, i experience everyday when i am driving and continue to be worse everyday.

I experience unintended acceleration when coasting. when the car attempts to down shift, there is a sudden increase in the engine rpms and a sudden and unintended increase in speed. i have gotten no satisfaction from the dealer or chrysler. they claim that it is the way it was designed to operate. note: when this occurs my foot is on neither the gas or brake pedals. this occurs mostly on level street and highways.

I was stopped at a light. when i depressed the accelerator, warning lights flashed on my dash, the engine stalled and a message to "shift to p then desired gear". car was hard to start afterwards, issue happened 3 more times on the way back home (less than 1 mile). car has been brought to mechanic for diagnostic testing. i did research online and this appears to be a known issue with the transmission. hopefully will still be covered under warranty.

I was in the turning lane to turn into a grocery store and when i accelerated to turn my jeep accelerated then the check engine light came on the service transmission light, traction control light, service parking brake light, there were several lights that came on and my jeep was still running but stopped accelerating as i was turning into the store on a busy 4 lane road and i was pushing the gas but the vehicle would not move i coasted into the start of the parking lot where it was now telling me to shift my car into park as i did then shifted back to drive and tried to finish pulling into the store parking lot and still nothing. so i put the vehicle into park shut it off sat for a min turned it back on placed it back in drive the check engine light was still on so i drove it to the nearest auto zone to get the code checked because it was a sunday (today 10/7/18) and the dealer ship is closed. they were unable to find a code and once the jeep was turned back on all lights were off. i drove it home and parked it and i am taking it to the deal ship tomorrow. 2 weeks ago thursday sept 27th my car stalled and shut off at a stop light while taking my kids to school the morning after filling my car with gas. it started back up immediately then shook like it may die again then nothing. no light indicators at all came on during that incident so i figured it could have been bad gas and thought nothing of it since i didn't have any other trouble til today. my children were with me both times and we got lucky this incident that happened today sunday oct 7th 2018 we did not get hit because i barely made it into the parking.

On several occasions, this car has just stopped while in motion. dashboard lights light up, get transmission warning. have taken the car in on numerous occasions to be told that it needed an update on the computer. it is very scary to be driving a car and not know when or if it will shut off, and that an "update" would cause such an incident. i have had trouble with this car since the day we purchased it. i have reached out to jeep and they just said to take it back to the shop so they could run tests on it, this was after it had been in the shop for 3 weeks. it seems like many others are having the same issue with the same model car. someone is going to get killed if something isn't done with these issues. there should have been a recall in this faulty vehicle. i am posting that this new occurance happened today, but it has happened on several other occasions.

I bought my jeep cherokee 2014 awd with 60k miles on it. within in 6 months, my dashboard said service transmission and it was undriveable. the dealership said it was software issue and fixed it. not even a year later and i had the same issue again and it is now getting a new transmission. often when driving, it revs very high and goes nowhere, or if i'm cruising a parking lot, its revving very high and will jerk into another gear. not only that, but i've had know drive shaft bearing ands a new radio put it. the big issue is the transmission and the repeated tows, missing work, late to work, engine shaking, grinding, and now being replaced. i've owned it my own for 1.5 years, am already at this point. dealership won't replace it, just told me i have it covered under warrantly and oh well. these issues have happened when starting my car in the morning to leave my driveway, won't shift into gear. driving on the highway attempting to switch lanes and have no acceleration so i slam on the brakes before i get into an accident because i know if it doesn't take off, its not going to until i least expect it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the transmission gears slipped without warning when the vehicle was started. while the vehicle was idling at a stop, a warning indicator near the gear box indicated that the gear was shifted when it really was not. in addition, the vehicle randomly stalled several times intermittently. the contact was uncertain if the failure was related to nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train). the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. a dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available. *tt*jb

Vehicle died on main road just over 30000 miles said it was the uconnect . turns out after a month and a half of them having it they had to replace the transmission. ruff shifts over accelerates. suspension right after that. died on the highway going 55!!! semi truck almost killed my family. took dealership over a week to even look at it said it was a sensor. died again 4wheel drive light came on. said it was a module. now they say its the rear differential and its on back order and can take up to 2 weeks. this vehicle is not safe. transmission constantly goes out. afraid my family will get hurt

When using the cruise control it excelerates when going downhill and doesn't disengage when breaking or turning off the cruise control. this has been a continuing problem.

Transmission issue causing a serious safety issue. while braking the vehicle has an acceleration surge. it also does this while coasting and the transmission goes into a downshift. there are also issues with it shifting in several gears. there is a check engine light on u0402. chrysler dealership tried to program the tcm twice and the light comes right back on.

My jeep in currently being serviced for the third time, same problem. my jeep will stop on the highway, at highway speeds, transmission goes to neutral, engine idles. you stop the car, shift to park and turn the engine off, then you can start it up, all the dash board lights are lit and when you shift to drive it bangs. this same scenario has happened over 20 times.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving various speeds with the cruise control engaged, the battery warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle seized. the contact also stated that 'put vehicle in gear to maneuver' was displayed. the vehicle was turned off and on several times before it was able to maneuver again. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who could not duplicate the failures. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 71,000. the vin was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 65 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle accelerated on its own. the contact stated that the failure also occurred when the vehicle was parked. upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 18v332000 (electrical system, vehicle speed control). the contact stated that the engine check warning indicator was illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and landmark dodge chrysler jeep ram (located at 1900 s noland rd, independence, mo 64055, (816) 836-0100) where it was waiting to be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 106,399.

Car shut off then cranked back up began to drive car showed 80 mph only going 45 car running sluggish and engine revving up car then showed service transmission and shut off now service light is on only owned the car for a week seen lots of issues online with this same problem have kids and feel this is unsafe to drive dealer is looking at vehicle tomm.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the consumer stated it was a wire harness malfuction. the vehicle is effected while in motion, and shifts to neutral state then stops due to loss of power. after car is turned on power is restored with trouble codes appear with no reasoning. the wire harness recall was addressed via reset, but wire harness was not replaced. the vehicle was taken to sherman dodge chrysler jeep ram (7601 skokie blvd, skokie, il 60077, 866-650-8000) the failure mileage was 45,000. *tt *tr

Transmission slips, causing excessive rpms, abrupt and jolting shifts, and sudden variations in rpms. this has been an issue with the vehicle for several years. have tired multiple times going to dealer to have the issue solved, but have only been given new updates which have failed to solve the problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving unknown speeds in july of 2017, the vehicle stalled and the service transmission and check engine indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a local dealer (darcars chrysler dodge jeep ram of rockville, 755 rockville pike, rockville, md 20852), but they were unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. while driving 45 mph, the accelerator pedal was applied, but failed to respond and the vehicle stalled. the service transmission and check engine indicators illuminated again. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 40,729. *tt *tr

I had been driving my vehicle on side roads at a speed of approximately 25 mph after having dropped my daughter off at school when all of the sudden out of no where the transmission service came onto my screen on the dash and my jeep lost power and the brakes locked up and said that i need to service the transmission. multiple vehicle warning systems started sounding include "check transmission", "put vehicle in park, then select gear", accompanied by warning chimes, the engine light, etc. vehicle switched gears and was difficult to drive. i will be bringing vehicle to dealership but see from reviewing on-line that this has occurred numerous times with the jeep cherokee (2014).

While driving down the highway going 65 miles an hour the transmission made a horrible sound and just went bezerk. all i could do is put on my hazards and coast to the side. it would not go into any gear not even park. i was almost hit by several vehicles trying just to get over. he had it towed to the dealership where we were told it was fixed on our way home it did the same thing again. i am literally terrified to drive this vehicle again.

Using adaptive cruise control (acc) vehicle with start to stop when a vehicle is left turn lane either already there or turning into when in front of my vehicle requiring override with gas petal. started intermittent; over 6 months period more consistent with this problem. speed from 25 to 45 mph.

Purchased used with 36,000 mi. on 20th day of ownership, experienced the feeling of being hit from behind while approaching driveway at low speed. that evening felt same "rear-ended" feeling while sitting still in drive-thru. the car lurched forward so suddenly that had i not had my foot firmly on the brake, we would have hit vehicle in front of us. simultaneous to "lurch" forward, the car died like the feeling of "popping clutch on manual transmission". drove home and engine died again at about 5 mph after right turn. restarted & continued onto street and into driveway. next morning on my way to work, it felt like it wanted to die and was struggling with gears. i pulled into my parking place and my boss happened to be standing there next to his car. as he stood next to the car while i was in it, it lurched forward again and died. needless to say he was startled, and again, had i not had my foot firmly on the brake, i could have hit him as well as the brick wall in front of the car. so i started the car again and it died again while in "p". not cool, headed to service department. i started it again, and as i started to pull out of the driveway onto a very busy street, the car hesitated (what seemed like a couple of seconds) before it would cross the 2 lanes of oncoming traffic going 40-50 mph. um, yeah. scary. a mile or so down the road, it decided to shut down again, this time in the middle of a 3-lane road going about 30 mph and i was almost rear-ended! i restarted and proceeded to service department - no diagnosis there after them keeping the car for 4 days. they sent to jeep dealer, where it still sits today, waiting for it to act-up and get a diagnosis so it can be "fixed". jeep has had it 15 days and still no answers. i had the car 20 days, and the dealer(s) have had it a total of 18. this car is a tragedy waiting to happen....

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 5 mph and applying the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond and stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (advantage chrysler dodge jeep located at 18311 us highway 441 mount fora, fl 32757 (352)-735-3777), but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 34,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, there was a two second delay before the vehicle would move. the vehicle would then accelerate at a rapid speed and then drop to normal speed without warning. the contact heard a metallic noise in the transmission. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (dick scott chrysler dodge jeep ram at 684 ann arbor rd, plymouth, mi 48170, (734) 451-2110), but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified, but did not offer further assistance. the failure mileage was 25,874.

I experience unintended acceleration when coasting. when the car attempts to down shift, there is a sudden increase in the engine rpms and a sudden and unintended increase in speed. i have gotten no satisfaction from the dealer or chrysler. they claim that it is the way it was designed to operate. i asked the chrysler representative to put that in writing and she refused. note: when this occurs my foot is on neither the gas or brake pedals. this occurs mostly on level street and highways. attached is a copy of the latest of many service request.

'forward detection limited' ; auto cruise control on while vehicle moving 55 mph in traffic. forward detection limited warning lit up on dash screen then went out

After fixing the transmission recall. my transmission has once again started acting up. jeep refuses to switch gears. must service vehicle again. this is an ongoing issue, it seems, with multiple owners. vehicle itself needs to be recalled immediately. vehicle in motion. on highway. (both times)

I attempted to stop for a stop light on a 4 lane road and the vehicle would not stop. it kept accelerating as i pressed the brake. i shifted into neutral and the tachometer was between 6000 to 7000 rpm. i hit the accelerator a few times and it dropped to normal rpm's. the stop light changed to green and i put the shifter from the neutral position to drive. the vehicle would not move for about 30 seconds.

When the vehicle is in motion and on an incline (i.e. slowing entering a sloping driveway) the vehicle will pause like it is shifting into neutral, then accelerate quickly. when the vehicle is starting to move from a stop (i.e. red light) it will start slowing, pause (like it is in neutral - or skipping a gear) then surge forward. when driving the vehicle down a grade in town, after applying the brakes to slow, as soon as the brake pedal is released, the vehicle will speed up and the rpm's will jump over 2500. the vehicle will also increase rpm's and accelerate when slowing down from a 35mph zone to a 25mph zone. sometimes whild driving in the city the engine will increase speed when depressing the accelerator pedal, but the transmission will not shift. after the idle or dead transmission moment the vehicle will lurch into gear. all of these issues occur regularly. this vehicle has only 27,000 miles on it. it has been doing it since purchase, and has become worse recently. the vehicle did have all of the other recalls performed except the latest nhtsa recall number 16v529 (i.e. reprogramming the computer) this has made the vehicle drive even worse than before. reflashing the computer was completed in july 2016 it did not help. jeep says that the transmission will "learn" the more that it is driven. my wife is now afraid to drive the vehicle because it is so bad.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. after the vehicle was shifted into drive, the check engine and service transmission warning indicators illuminated. the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to move. the vehicle was restarted several times, but failed to operate properly. the vehicle was towed to a dealer, but had not been diagnosed or repaired. in addition, when the vehicle was in the drive or reverse positions, it would hesitate and jerk violently. the contact also stated that while stopped, the vehicle inadvertently accelerated. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 19,000.

For the 3rd time - check engine light, check gas cap light come on, odometer starts flashing and vehicle loses all acceleration after those lights come up. you can floor the gas pedal and the vehicle will barely get to 40 mph. last time it was brought to the dealership they performed flashes (3 weeks ago) and the issue went away. happened again today while pulling out of a busy shopping center and the car lost the ability to accelerate and had to limp it home to be towed to the dealership. the dealership advises they are unaware of any issues like this however there are multiple reports of this make\model\year having this exact same issue. the first time it happened i was doing 80 mph on the interstate and the car immediately dropped to 40 mph nearly causing a collision.

Three times in the last year (10/26/15, 1/1/2016, 10/17/2016), my cherokee has lost all speed while on the freeway going 60mph. the dash lights start flashing including check engine, park immediately traction control, and service transmission. the gas pedal no longer works and the car loses all speed in 4-5 seconds. i have been forced to cut across all lanes of traffic to park on the shoulder. the engine never turns off, but when i try to press the gas pedal, even flooring it, the car does not move. the dealer has "rewired" the wiring harness and replaced the transmission control module twice. this is an incredibly unsafe issue with this vehicle making me afraid to drive it.

Takata recall car bucking when shifting into gear. also there was a knocking noise when driving at different speeds and when turning the wheel or going over bumps. it got so bad that it sounded like my tire was going to fall off or the underneath of my car. also my car was shaking when it would hit a bump. there was also a whining noise that would occur when i turned my wheel either way. this problem has been occurring for almost two years now, everytime i brought it back to the dealer they stated that my "car was fine" was not until i brought it to another mechanic that they told me it was my front passenger wheel ball joint. this would occur while the car was on the highway or side roads, as long as the car was in motion. also my car would have problems when shifting. the car bucked on my on the highway when i was going 65 the car lights started flashing and i got warning lights stating to put car into desired gear, check oil and transmission. i pulled into the break down lane and put the car in park. turned the car on and off & the same thing happened. *tr
