Problems with 2013 Honda Accord ENGINE

On average, the 2013 Honda Accord starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 38 888 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2013 Honda Accord

The car burns a lot of oil. 1.5 quarts from traveling 55 miles in the last week.

My 2013 honda accord burning oil, i got an oil change 4 month ago,its no oil leaks or anything my oil life is 70%. however when coming to a complete stop my oil light comes on and no oil in dipstick. now this happened four times no oil in dipstick first time in 64008 miles on 05/26/18 and the second time in 71689 miles on 01/03/19 and the third time 75000 miles 03/20/19 and fourth time 80000 miles on 07/13/19. i went to honda dealership twice to check my car and dealership say no issue and i did two engine oil consumption test first time in 64008 mile on 05/26/18 and the second time in 71689 mile on 01/03/19 and all passed and dealership say no issue. i do not want my car engine get brooking or fire. please i need help.

After service at honda service station at rosenberg, tx... i had issues with the temperature sensor in the front of the grill, also a code showed up 2 days later, along with check engine light... when scanned it was "p0420"... was wondering if, the mechanics while cleaning, used water under pressure to clean, and during the cleaning, did they flood my exhaust... "creating business?""

Along several others, i began having the intermittent starting problems on my 2013 2.4 l accord at around 60,000 miles. this type of starter uses a solenoid to move the starter motor's pinion gear forward to mesh with the flywheel's ring gear while simultaneously pulling the plunger and its copper contact disc onto the battery contact and the starter motor contact to complete the circuit from the battery to the starter motor. when functioning properly, turning the ignition key or starter button should mesh starter's pinion gear with the flywheel and turn the starter motor to crank the engine. the problem with these starters is that the battery-side contact and the battery-side of the plunger contact erode excessively due to arcing and consequent pitting. this intermittently prevents the plunger's contact from contacting the battery-side contact to complete the circuit between the battery and starter motor. when this happens the pinion gear meshes with the flywheel but the starter motor doesn't turn. note that the pinion gear engaging and disengaging the flywheel is the clicking sound heard from under the car during a failed start. this problem was fixed by replacing the contacts which are included in honda brush holder (honda part number: 31210-5a2-a01) which cost me $45 at my local honda dealer. i believe 2013 through 2017 2.4 l accords use this part which suggests that they will, or are, experiencing the intermittent starting problem. one would think honda would have had a recall to fix this problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. while driving unknown speeds, the vehicle stalled and there was an abnormal burning odor emerging from the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to flow honda (2600 peters creek pkwy, winston-salem, nc 27127, (336) 785-3380)where transmission fluid was added and the battery was jumped. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 126,005.

When i turn key ignition car doesnt start, i have to turn key back and forth for it to start

I think this might be my 3rd complaint, i love honda and have had honda cars for years, but this has really tested my patience. for the last 4 years i have gone through 3 starters and 2 alternators, every time i contact honda they tell me to drop the car off so they can test it, i pay them $130 so they can tell me what they already know. my problem is that starter issue is very common, and there is no long term fix for this issue. so the issue is back, i end up getting stranded in places for hours at a time, and sometimes even end up being late to work, due to my starter spinning away until i can get it to catch eventually. i took it to get appraised the other day, and it wouldn't start ofcourse, the dealer refused to look at the vehicle ofcourse, because no one wants to sell a lemon. at this point, i am either looking for honda to buy my car off me, replace it, or come up with a permanent fix. if you go on youtube and type in honda starter issue you will find plenty of videos, and i also have reciepts for all the trips my car took to the dealer. i am not going to install a 4th starter, that is that rediculouse, i refuse to go to a honda dealership again for them to tell me what i already know.

This problem started two years ago and got worse in may. it all started whe we had a rough time starting the vehicle it would take up to 6 time until the car would finally start. we were told it was the battery so we changed the batter up to four time and it still kept having starting issues so then we were told it was the starter so we had it replaced and we are still having issues and now the car stalled on me while stopped in the middle of a busy intersection and it took numerous tries and it finally turned over. our local dealership had the car for 13 weeks and told us they were able to duplicate the starting issues and then told us a few days later they didnt push the button in long enough so it was there mechanics fault and then tell us they find a draw on the battery and a few days later tells us there mechanic used a faulty meter and then they blame it on our internet, smart tvs, garage door opener and wifi. i am so tired of all the excuses and need a car that's not going to leave me stranded and that i can feel safe driving the car out of town right now that's not the case. i do have several friends and family members that have had to come to my rescue to jump start my car or we have had to call a tow truck to get it to the dealership. we have had two ase certified mechanics look at it and were able to duplicate the starting issues and the battery draining and they both told us to take it to our local dealership. we have lots of video and documentation of what the car is doing and also friends that will speak on our behalf. no one will ride with me anymore in fear the car wont start or stall while stopped in a busy intersection. we started having issues two years ago but got alot worse in may of this year.

Hen attempting to start engine of parked vehicle, nothing happened when key was turned. took several attempts to start car each time.

In early 2019, after my honda dealer replaced my vehicle's water pump, i began experiencing problems with the push button start feature on my 2013 honda accord. sometimes, my car starts right away. but more often, it takes several attempts before my car will start using the push button start feature. when repeated attempts are necessary to start my car, i hear a 'clicking' type noise when i press the start button, but my car does not turn over. after several attempts pushing the 'start' button, my car eventually starts (sometimes after a few seconds and a few attempts, sometimes after many attempts and two or three minutes). the problem occurs randomly, when the car is cold and warm. i never experienced this problem until honda replaced the water pump on my car earlier this year. based on other web posts, this sounds like a common problem with the push button start feature in 2013 honda accords. once my car starts, it runs well. at this present time, i have no other mechanical problems other than the push button start feature. however, my car's failure to start is a safety issue in itself if a car fails to start in a situation where a quick get away is necessary (for example, flood, wild fire, or other natural or other disaster that may require that my car start without delay).

Upon start up, all the lights on the dashboard lit up. fcw failure noted on the digital display. acceleration non existent in this state. several restarts (34 was the max), no lights on the dash. car ran fine. dealer diagnosed it as a timing chain that had expanded. seems to be fixed. (only been two days). i think it is a major safety issue because the lack of power could manifest itself at any time. imagine getting on a highway with no power to accelerate.

Vehicle has excessive oil consumption which has caused the vehicle to run out of oil in between oil changes. this has now damaged other vehicle parts like catalytic converter.

Two nights ago i was driving on i-75 back home from work , i was going speed limit 70-75 mph and the car suddenly started "bogging down", didn't want to go above 30 mph and a number of dash lights were on: service engine, power steering, tire pressure and maybe traction control. i turn off the car, turn it back on, and the lights still on. i drive short distance home at 25-30 mph. the following morning i looked at the car, didn't see anything wrong i felted very unsafe from car suddenly slow in the middle of hwy i-75 going from 70-75 mph to 25-30 mph, this happened with out any warning or enough time to pull over the shoulder, definitely a bad accident would happened here.

Had to replace the starter as it started going out with just over 51,000 miles on the car

When attempting to start engine of parked vehicle, nothing happened when key was turned. took several attempts to start car each time. starter had failed and was replaced.

Takata recall starter motor (mitsuba) (v6) starter grinds or spin at startup

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. while the key was in the ignition, the vehicle stalled without warning. after twenty minutes, the vehicle returned to normal. the vehicle was towed by aaa to balise honda of west warwick (509 quaker ln, west warwick, ri 02893, (401) 822-2000) to be diagnosed, but no failure was found. the failure recurred. the dealer installed a new battery and starter. the manufacturer was notified and did not assist. the failure mileage was 100,000.

Early failure of starter. the starter failed within 5 years of purchase (new car) with very low mileage 46k miles. i could not start my engine on multiple occasions.

The starter intermittently grinds/spins when starting, replaced starter and problem still happens. multiple complaints to the problem on line.have located honda's service bulletin tsb 16-002 but honda claims my vin not covered by extended warranty.

At 5 years old my honda accord will now only start on the first time about 50% of the time. this started about a month ago. the interior lights and radio all power on but the car will not turn over. sometimes it takes me several times/minutes to start. i had to change my battery $176 & now the key fobs too and this still occurred. this has 411,000 results if googled. this is very common although honda continues to not recognize this as an issue. please look into this!

So just like all the other complaints, my car won't start every time i hit the starter button. after i press it it makes a really loud whining sound, i am currently on my 3rd replacement starter, and 2nd alternator. i think it's crazy, after all these complains everywhere that nothing has been done. i gave honda the benefit of the doubt, because of their history of reliability, but this is too much. i need a new starter too actually so starter #4 here i come. this is a serious issue.

Trouble starting car. changing battery did not help.

I have 2013 accord lx 55k miles, and had intermittent starting problem from last few months, doesn't matter if it's cold or hot, sometimes it just doesn't start. i leave it alont for about a min or two with key out and then it'll start, sometimes longer. battery is not the problem and i've already taken to the dealership to have them check the battery and the starting system. checked out ok, they couldn't duplicate. anybody else have this problem? now it won't start at all. i found the recall is for v6 models only. what should i do at this point?

Starter failed, and we were stranded at the new market post office for an hour. the battery is good, but honda mechanic said the starter is failing. we replaced the starter engine, and the car starts up good every time. it cost $515 to replace starter engine. honda refused to pay for defect, because the car is past warranty.

I got no warning and the car would start and then die. i looked on the net and this problem has happened with other honda's. i had run an errand and wasn't gone longer than 5 minutes.-

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check oil and engine warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 130,000.

When trying to start, it makes a clicking sound, doesn't turn over and the dashboard lights flicker. replaced the battery, but didn't help. sometimes, after several attempts, it may start, but not usually. went on "honda blog" and found several same type of complaints. some believe it may be a starter defect.

I have been monitering my oil level consumption and for about 3 different oil changes (6200-6400 mile intervals). my dash shows 40% oil life remaining but when i check the dipstick there is no oil on it at all. it's bone dry. took the car in for a diagnosis and there are no signs or leaks either. the car is burning through 5 quarts of oil. when asked honda they say this is normal. i have never experienced this in any other car or my of other honda. and the low oil pressure light doesn't even come on until i apply the brakes harder than usual.

I purchased new a 2013 honda accord 4 cyl in august 2013 which had the battery sensor replaced at 26,010 miles in october 2017. shortly thereafter, i started experiencing an intermittent starting problem. when i turn the key, the dash lights turn on as normal, but the engine does not turn over or even crank. while this does not happen all the time, it happens frequently and it can take between 2-6 tries before it finally starts at home or anywhere i traveled. aaa jumped me once too. dealer said to switch keys as it may be the immobilizer sensor in my key. then december 2018 at 32,935 miles, dealer recommended i replace the battery which i did, but issue continued, july 2019 at 36,555 miles, dealer performed diagnostics stating the starter was bad but there wasn't a recall and it's more than 36 months so out of warranty. dealer does not apply the cost of the diagnostics against the repair. total cost for diagnostics, starter and tax was $889.47. plus the dealer sold me a refurbished starter with a 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty stating a new starter only carries a 12 month warranty. almost $1k is a lot of money for one repair for a senior citizen for a car with 36k miles. appears this is a common issue so honda motor co should recall the starter and provide reimbursement to those who had to have it replaced to avoid being stranded.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. on several occasions, while attempting to drive, the vehicle failed to start. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the starter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

Tl-contact owns a 2013 honda accord..... intermittent starting ignition problems..... contact called honda and honda stated vehicle had no recalls... contact had called honda earlier today regarding general recalls.... cb

My 2013 honda accord sport experienced engine starting problem. sometimes it took 3 or 4 times to turn the key to get the car started. i took the car to the sunnyvale honda dealer for diagnostic and they told me it was the starter problem. it costs me $936 to replace the starter including parts and labor. i can't believe that my car is only about 4 years old with less than 40k mileage having the starter issue that needs to be replaced. what a shame with the honda brand!!!

Bought 2013 honda accord sedan sport on 06/13. i just reached the 32000miles and my starter is slipping and causing me to turn the ignition a few times before it starts. i strongly believe there may be a fault on the product or installation of part.

At times the car will not start when the ignition key is turned. it will start on the second turn. on 11/17/2017 , it did not start on the second try. i called for a tow truck . the driver arrived and after turning the key multiple times , the car started. he stated that it is the starter and to have it checked.

Starter is bad will not start brought car to a mechanic. he recommended me to get a new starter. checked battery and alternator well within working parameters.

Car caught fire starting in engine compartment. was stopped at a stop light, in left turn lane, when smoke was first noticed. i got out of the car and fire progressed in a few minutes to where flames were coming out from under the hood. local fire company extinguished the fire. car appears to be a total loss. safety recall nhtsa 17v-418 was only recently received and had not yet gotten the car to the dealer.

This is car has 54,000 miles on it and uses about 1qt of oil every 1,000 miles! i currenlty have 40% left on my oil change and it was 3 quarts low! very excessive oil consumption!! so disappointed in my first honda.

Takata recall. i was checking under the hood of my honda and i checked my oil level and there was not a drop of oil in the engine. i didnt know why this was so i changed the oil fast to prevent the engine from damaging. now 1400 miles after my oil change the engine is half way dry of oil. my car is a 2013 honda accord with only 42000 miles on it, it should not be burning oil.

Since last fall, engine does start only after multiple tries of pushing the button. lately we need a lot more tries before starting the car. based on the symptoms on file, it looks like it is the starter.

My car is 2013 accord bought brand new from gardena honda and no other mechanic touched it. since 2013, i have serviced my car at the same location. my car was perfectly fine however, once i received the battery recall letter i decided to take my car into gardena honda. please note my car still has less than 30,000 miles on it. august 2017 i went to get my car checked for the battery recall they said everything was fine and that they applied konshi bond to protect bms. two days later after work my car did not start (stationary). check engine was on, check steering light on & traction light on plus low pressure on. i immediately felt unsafe to drive my car but had to take it back to honda to see what they had done to it. honda said it was not their fault and that now the problem had nothing to do with my battery. instead, it was my engine wire harness. that needed to be fixed for a price of ~$2,800 but they could lower it to $669.15 + tax i just want to express how disappointed i am in honda. i bought a honda because they are supposed to be a reliable car. back in march 2016 they told me by battery failed the battery test and decided to charge it. november 2016, they made me buy a new battery, at that time my car was still brand new with only 22,000 miles on it. i don't believe this is coincidence. i got a honda for reliability reasons. i also know you are not supposed to service the car for the same issue 3 times and i shouldn't be concern of my 2013 honda car that still has less than 30,000 miles of any electrical issues. i am concern of service fraud because i was charge to recharged and replace the battery. one time i was within warranty and the other was just a few months afterward. i am requesting a reimbursement of some manner; it can be monetary or free servicing my car.

Vehicle is 2013 and i have replaced the started and battery 4 times due to engine failure, it turn on and immediatly dies off, my car has been towed 6 times or more since i bought, i have done all the maintenance all the time and computer never identifies this problem. i am so tired of this trash car, i stillowe on it or else i would just park it on the front lot of a dealer and put a big sign saying do not buy honda accords, many problems always. lastly, i asked the driver for the tow truck which kind of cars he tows the most due to engine failure and he said, laughing "hondas"...first time it fail to start was at 54k miles.

The engine started excessively consuming oil once it passed 60,000 miles on the odometer. it appears to be burning oil at a rate of 1/2 quart per 1,000 miles.

Tl* the contact owned a 2013 honda accord. while the contact was at the doctor's office, she was alerted that her vehicle was on fire in the parking lot. the contact was unsure if a police report was filed. the fire department extinguished the fire. the vehicle was towed to the local police department. the contact's insurance company deemed the vehicle totaled after the police inspection. there were no injuries. the manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. the cause of the failure was not determined. the vin was unknown. *tt consumer stated she received a recall for a battery part that could cause fire. consumer took the vehicle for an oil change to honda dealer but part was not replaced. consumer states while in the doctors office, car started a fire in the parking lot. fire was extensive but manufacturer claims it is not their problem.*jb

Starter problems, car starts then does not start, stationary

For the last month i have to put the vehicle key into the ignition 4-7 times to start the vehicle. today, i took my vehicle to pep boys auto parts in el paso, tx and they diagnosed the vehicle having problems with the starter. the mechanic told me that i need to change the starter because it is wearing out and is a rarity because it is not suppose to happen to a honda accord that is only 3 + years old. i have a 2011 chevrolet tahoe and all engine parts are operating normally. unbelieveable that my honda accord is breaking down on me. please look into this and let me know if there is a recall.

I've own my car for for 1 and 1/2 years and it's dead for the 4th time i had the battery replaced a month after buying the car and am still having problems with it i don't know if it is the starter? it was parked at work for 4 hours then i moved parking spots and shut it off turned back on 10 minutes later to close windows and it's dead.

Unable to start vehicle. push button, lights blink, clicking noise but car will not start. sometimes works after waiting 1 hour or more.

My care is consuming too much oil. oil light warning does not come on.

Excessive oil consumption: i have a 2013 honda accord with 74,000 miles. i purchased the extended warranty package at time of purchase. the accord engine has started using oil. at the last oil change there was only 1 quart of oil left in the engine. consumption testing did not show 1 quart/1,000 miles so nothing was done by honda. between 2,000 and 3,000 miles of the consumption test oil was consumed at a rate of 1 quart or more per 1,000 miles. honda still did nothing. i called american honda and got no where. i have purchased several honda's since 1987 but will never purchase another because of this willingness to do nothing. i was told to check the oil level every time i stopped for gas.

For the last year, the car has been unable to start after parking it for a few minutes. usually after a few key turns it will start. a month ago it would not start at all so we towed it. the dealership decided it was the starter. after 37,000 miles? it's a honda! it worked fine for 5 weeks and then it died again after being driven just a few miles. this time the dash lights flashed and clicked for a few minutes but would not start. after towing it, the dealership hooked it up to a jumpstart and it started! three lights continued to flash so the dealership hooked it up to the computer. i called them a couple days later and they have no answers. i hate letting my wife drive an unreliable vehicle.
