Problems with 2013 Honda Accord ENGINE

On average, the 2013 Honda Accord starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 38 888 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2013 Honda Accord

Heard growling sound from engine when coming to a stop, occasionally during acceleration at low speeds and during cold start. went to dealership and issue was found to be due to low engine oil (3 quarts low) . had the oil changed about 6000 miles before this issue occurred.

My 2013 honda accord ex started experiencing problems with intermittent starting around 45,000 miles. the dealership is aware of the starter problem, but charged me over $800 to repair it with a new starter button. i was told without repair this problem would get worse till the car would not start at all.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. the contact stated that it took several attempts to start the vehicle. additionally, there was an abnormal squealing noise. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (lute riley honda, 1331 n central expy, richardson, tx 75080) where it was diagnosed that the starter needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

My transmission fluid was very low so i took it in to the dealership to get it checked out. prior to this my brother drove my car and said it was not going into gears smoothly. when i took it into the dealership the representative said low transmission fluid can make the car run not too smooth. he did mentioned that there was a notice for a foul spark plug and told me to drive the car for a few days and if the problem doesn't fix itself then to bring it back in so they can look further into the problem. my concern is if i have a recall and i am having problems that could be caused by a faulty spark plug shouldn't they automatically bring my car in and replace the spark plugs? on your site it appears that i have had two recalls for my vehicle. not once have i been notified by the dealership. this is new to me. i'm not familiar with this process. can you please give me some guidance? thank you, concerned customer *tr

Intermittently, maybe 30-50 times in total in the 112k miles i've driven the car, when you depress the brake and push the start button, all the dash lights come on, but the starter does not turn. there a noise of an electrical switch turning in the dash, but i don't think it is the starter solenoid. i replaced the battery, but that didn't help. i've read of a brake switch not telling the starter it was okay to start, but haven't checked that. i've read honda replacing the starter, but i haven't done that. some posts say replace the start switch.

When starting the car with the push button, about 50% of the time the engine does not start, there is a noise like static. looked on the internet and it appears that many many people have this problem on the 2013 accord. 99.9% of the time they have to replace a defective starter at $800. honda should step up and resolve this dangerous situation where the car does not start. this really is a safety issue.

2013 honda accord won't start. lights, a/c, radio, windows work. this occurred after 50,000 miles. i would have to turn steering column at first to get it to start. now it doesn't start at all! the vehicle is stationary

My care is consuming oil.

Battery terminal corrosion - the factory battery had severe corrosion problems after 2 yrs (unlike any of my other 3 cars). on the third year it died and was replaced with a aaa battery. after 6 months this battery is also showing corrosion. this seems to be a common issue after doing google searches. what's worse is the positive batter cable is not an easy nor economical replacement once the corrosion finds its way inside. i believe the corrosion is happening because of the 'smart charging system' honda is using on this vehicle. never seen this problem in my 30+ yrs of owning dozens of cars.

Did my routine oil change at hondas recommended 15% oil life since i purchased the vehicle new in august 2013 last year july 2016 went in for an oil change after a few months i was down to about 30% oil life i was driving home i applied the brakes and the oil light came on and i heard a noise coming from the motor i stopped and checked oil it was very low hardly any on dip stick i thought maybe when i did the oil change at dealer they didn't put correct amount of oil so i than did my own oil change topped it off ran for about a minute and checked oil it was filled i than drove it and again the oil was low but this time only with 40% oil life left i took it to dealer few weeks back they did the oil consumption test am waiting to hit a 1000 miles to take it back to them

Oct 11, 2016, i drove the kids to school and parked the vehicle on the street. after walked then class, i returned to the vehicle. the car did not start on the first try, second try, but it started on third try. since purchased, i replaced battery twice due to the above reasons. i had battery checked and it's still good. please investigate.

While parking, but stopped, the car sped out of control. foot brake and hand brake failed to stop the speeding car. it leaped over a curb and into a retention pond. the doors refused to unlock. driver and passenger escaped thru windows and onto the roof. previously, the unattended car had locked itself and windows and sunroof had opened on several occasions the two fobs were on cup hooks in the house. honda shows no interest.

Two weeks ago my accord began having issues starting. after a few attempts the engine would eventually start and i would be on my way. until last friday, august 26, 2016. i drove to a friends house, parked, came back out to start my car and would hear a "popping" sound like the engine was trying to start up, but to no avail. friend's neighbor is a retired auto mechanic. he looked at the car and found that the issue was not the battery, and determined it was the starter itself. almost magically, the car randomly decided to start again. drove it straight to an additional auto mechanic, he tested the vehicle (battery, cable connections, wires that attach to starter) and also found that the issue was the starter. my accord has 66,000 miles on it. the total cost to fix this issue will be $680, kind of ridiculous. this seems to be a common issue from what i've read. please investigate.

I parked vehicle on residential city street. returned to the vehicle 15 minutes later and vehicle would not start. many of the indicator lights came on. called aaa, initial technician responded and could not start the car by jumping with battery pack. battery tested ok. tow truck was called, operator tried to jump the vehicle again with battery pack and the vehicle started. tow truck operator suggested i tell the dealership he suspected the starter or the wiring to the starter was the problem. a/c prior to this event had been working now had no power. drove the vehicle immediately to dealership. vehicle was left and diagnosed with faulty starter. fuse was blown to a/c. (we did note that the car had been harder to start recently - having to turn the key more than 1 time to get the car to start. still this was hardly noticeable or apparent that a problem was developing.) starter and fuse to be replaced at dealership will be picking up car hopefully today. this was not merely inconvenient and unpleasant but extremely dangerous emergency for persons with health/medical issues - it was very hot out with poor air quality and passenger and myself were stranded and without a/c for 4 hours. concerned about this happening again and why this happened. vehicle is maintained, 3yrs old with approx. 35,000. i am seeing numerous similar/identical reports from other owners.

I am the first owner of my 2013 honda accord sport and 2 months ago i developed an issue with the starter. i've replaced the starter twice and tonight got stranded and had to call a tow truck to bring it home. i've gone to the honda dealer and, of course, there's an issue with the starter, but it will cost $1000+ to fix! this issue must be investigated and recalled as soon as possible. honda is fully aware of all of these issues and if you get the right technician at the dealership - they'll tell you honda is fully aware, but couldn't care less! 2 starters later - i'm still in the same position!

Intermittent engine starting. starter is energized but fails to start motor. a loud gnashing or grinding can be heard as the starter tries to turn motor. it sounds as if the starter doesn't fully engage the flex plate/flywheel. engine eventually starts after several (as many as 10) attempts. the problem is not consistent with any condition. i've driven 2 weeks with no issues then will have 5 episodes in 2 days. a completely random occurrence but very frustrating and embarrassing.

The key turns over but engine does not crank

Push start failure my car had 50000 miles on it when it started having trouble with the push start button. it did it once a week sometimes and eventually happened every time i tried to start the car. i took it to a mechanic and they were unable to pin point the problem. the starter checked out ok but since they could not find any other problem, they replaced the starter and kept the original incase i continued to have the problem they could return the original and give me my money back. it's been two weeks and so far i havent had the problem anymore. only time will tell.

Starter motor had progressive premature failure. began having problems with car not starting about a month ago. loud click, all dash lights would come on, but no crank or start. eventually would not re-start and left car stranded. car started with jumper cables. dealer diagnosed starter failure. vehicle is 2-1/2 years old with 49,845 miles. dealer did not offer warranty repair. cost for replacement was $724.00.

Starter motor doesn't engage. the motor turns but doesn't make engine turn over.

Push button start is acting up. at times when you push button to start the car it only clicks, after a few tries the car will start. i have seen several complaints on this. honda has admitted to an issue with the v6 model but not the v4 model that is having the same issue

Intermittently car starts with starter click noise almost everyday on both cold and hot weather. battery replaced but problem still exist and getting worse.

This issue stared last week i didn't think too much on this but as the days goes on it take longer for me to start my car and me day i have to stop at lease 2 to 4 times to get the car to start. as i continue to search online to see what was the issue i am seeing more and more of this problem of what i am having. my car has been parked and there is no wires connected to the car to drain the battery, i have change both my car battery in my key battery already. this is very annoying i've been using honda for many years now and i never had this problem. with my other pass honda i would have to turn the key.

I got in my car this morning and couldn't get it to start again. i had to call aaa to jump my car.

I had to tow my car home today. it wouldn't start. i have had trouble with it in the past weeks now but it would start eventually. but not this time. i might lose my job because of this car failure. weither it was stationary yes but could of been blocking traffic.

2013 accord sport is starting to have a starting problem. sometimes engine does not turn over when first turning the key. and from what i have read on this site it sounds like it is progressively going to get to the point of having to replace the starter. not happy. i was hoping on having a reliable car when i bought this car.

My family and i were stranded due to our 2013 honda accord not starting. we just came out of the movies and the car was stationary in the parking lot. i turned the key and it would just click. i had to pay for towing and over $800 to have the starter replaced at the honda dealer. it would have been more, but i called another dealer and they price matched the starter. i drive a lot of mile to work so i have over 60k miles in 2 years. after doing a little research i found that this problem is happening to a lot of people. the problem can be seen on forums and youtube videos. this problem seems to affects new cars, base models, push buttons, v6's etc. i think the starter should be recalled because many people are being forced to replace starters that the dealer seemed to know was bad.

Vtc has been replaced and is bad again, no fix from honda this has been going on 2 years now and cant get any answers to have the issue resolved. being put off monthly as the engine gets louder by the week

Car won't start, about a month ago i bought a 2013 honda accord exl v6, it worked fine for about a week, but soon after that i started experiencing starting problems. i have taken it to the mechanic many times, i have had the electrical system checked, replaced starter, the battery etc. the problem still persists, after doing much research i have learned that this is a problem that is very wide spread, there are several you tube videos, and posts of frustrated owners unable to start their cars constantly having to replace the started in most cases. every car from 2013-2016 is suffering from this problem, of being unable to start, as a college student i don't have that much money to constantly fix it as it happens. this was supposed to be a reliable car, to replace my old car which was developing major problems, but at least the car started every time. please, address this issue with urgency many people depend on these vehicles, to get to work school etc.

Check engine light keeps going on since the car hit exactly 60,000 miles. code said it is related to the fuel system. changed the sensor; light was off and now back on. continuously occurs while driving the vehicle on the highway or city streets. all gauges are fine and car is maintaining gas mileage. could it be that the o-ring and fuel tank are only slightly better than that on the original 2013 honda accords (built with faulty fuel tanks) causing the o ring to wear out? how can this be checked. also just want to note that my wife had a 2009 pilot that kept needed spark plugs and had excessive oil consumption--she got rid of the car because she kept arguing that something was wrong with the vehicle with the honda dealership--honda admitted to the problem and extended the powertrain warranty right after she got rid of the car.

2013 accord sport is starting to have a starting problem. sometimes engine does not turn over when first turning the key. and from what i have read on this site it sounds like it is progressively going to get to the point of having to replace the starter. not happy. i was hoping on having a reliable car when i bought this car however i have had multiple issues two being major but thank god it was under warranty. one being transmission replacement at around 8,000 miles and the timing belt/tensioner issues.

Serious engine vibration when cold, began around 30,000 miles. recently, computer generated mpg numbers fluctuate wildly for same trip. example, today 10 mile trip, 23.3 mpg going 33.3 mpg returning. inaccurate oil life reminder, showing 70% left after 7,000 mi. used to show 20% after 5,000 when i have oil changed. dealer says all normal, call honda ifi have a problem. radio on off problems since new. all occur regardless of vehicle location or moving or not.

Pre mature engine oil consumption.

I got in my car in the morning in the garage, stepped on the brake to start the engine and it wouldn't start but the car power was on. i ended up having to call aaa to tow the car to honda. aaa was able to jump the car and i drove it to san leandro honda. they couldn't find anything wrong with the car. i looked on line and saw you tube videos with other people who had honda's and the same thing happened to them.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. the contact stated that the engine failed to start. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

On several occasions over the last six weeks when turning left, the car will stall for a second or so losing all power. it then will suddenly accelerate. i have nearly been hit when turning onto a road by on coming traffic when i should have had plenty of time to get out of the way. this is a major safety issue! the dealer had the car for three days. the service rep drove it home. the mechanic drove it. they could not reproduce the problem. the day i got the car back it again stalled or lugged. most of the time it stalls when turning left but it has failed in reverse and when leaving a stop lite. the service manager said he would call honda engineering to see what problems they might be aware of. that was a week ago and i've not heard back. the problem does not happen if you are over 20 mph. this is a 6 cylinder honda. the problem happens with ecco off or on. i purchased the car certified used 10/2015 from a honda dealer. it has 18,000 miles. i am an experienced driver of honda's for the last 25 years. *js

My 2013 4 cylinder accord at approx. 35,000 is burning oil. i have taken to local honda dealership for routine servicing per the maintenance minder system, last visit was 4,000 miles /3 months ago. i checked the oil level and it was below the mark on the dipstick to indicating to add oil. i called honda corporate who suggested i take in to the dealer. appointment is in two dyes from now. i surely hope i am not told this is normal as no engine this new should burn oil at this rate; fortunately i am still under the bumper to bumper and powertrain warranty.

My accord hesitates when put to d from a stop or accelerating from stop, low rpm or zero sporadically even while leaving my driveway. it usually happens from park to drive or reverse to drive. it has stalled while leaving a stop sign or an intersection on the street, should be considered a safety issue because it could cause an accident. i've been told by the dealer that is a honda issue and to basically live with the problem. i've been have this issue since i bought the car in november 2015.

Car will not start in the mornings: within a months 3 times. engine check light constantly lighting up. back and butt pain including legs falling asleep

Car had intermittent starting problems. turned the key multiple times and just heard clicks. engine does not crank. would not start while running errands and had to push it to a nearby garage. they replaced the starter and it never had the problem again. car had just passed 36k and american honda will not reimburse for the work done because it was not a honda dealership, but it was oem starter. bad starters on these cars. honda should be accountable for this as the car is only 2 years old. significantly below the average life of a starter. unacceptable...

I purchased a new 2013 honda accord sport (cvt) in 2013. as of october 6, 2015, the car is about 2 years old and has approximately 37,447 miles. the vehicle started having intermittent starting problems. the engine does not crank and all i hear are clicks. it takes 3-5 ignition attempts for the vehicle to start. sometimes it will start on the first try. furthermore, sometimes i leave it alone for about a second or two with the key out and then it will start. once it starts, everything seems to be fine. i brought the vehicle to the dealership to have them test the battery and the result was a good battery. the dealership could not duplicate the intermittent starting issue and will not give a goodwill warranty to diagnose and repair this startup problem. they said i woud have to pay if not covered under warranty. this is a new car and this should not happen.

Went for lunch, and parked my car on the street. after finishing lunch, about half an hour later, got into the car and proceeded to start it. everything worked, but the car immediately shut off (radio and ac would stay on however). tried again, but the same thing happened. followed by a check engine light warning, and tire pressure warning. took key out of ignition, waited a minute, before trying again. this time, turned off radio and ac. car immediately shut off still. tried 2-3 more times, and car finally started, all with a total of 4 warning lights. check engine, tire pressure, power steering, and another one i cannot recall. took it the dealer immediately, and waited 2-4hrs for them to tell me, the throttle body needs replacing. they advised it wouldn't be safe for me to drive the car home, so they gave me a free rental until it can be fixed.

I have a honda accord 2013 (just 2 years old) with 59209 miles on it. car sometimes clicks and will not start. sometime it will start after about 5 to 10 tries, or waiting for a while. sometimes the car starts fine on the first try. i talked to honda of america on 7/20/2015 and they said it might be the starter or ignition going bad and should be covered under the 5 year/60k power train warranty. i took it to the dealer yesterday and they diagnosed it to the starter motor and replaced it and said that it is not covered under the power train warranty. i then talked to honda and they said that they are sorry for the misinformation i received and it is not covered under the power train warranty. the new car warranty is covered only by the 3 yr/36k which ever comes first. the car is only 2 years old and the starter motor shouldn't go bad.

Driving on the highway at 60 to 65 mph, grinding noise inside the engine compartment. at cruising speed (65 mph) release the gas pedal to maintain my speed. then tap the gas pedal lightly to get back on speed, there is a loud grinding noise inside the engine compartment. i start noticing this around 8000 miles on the car. car now has 13,200 miles. this was reported to the dealer , but honda is saying it is normal. grinding noise inside the engine compartment at that speed is not normal. this can be a safety issue done the road, grinding noise is caused by two objects rubbing at each other, one day this objects will wear out and fail. ive been trying to explain it to honda, but no resolution. i'm hoping nhtsa can help

Engine knocks on start up, knocks only on first start up or when sitting for long periods of time, after that no knock'

My vehicle shut down while parked in an plaza on pembroke road at the beginning on march 2015. this happened again x 2 while the vehicle was parked (engine running) on separate days. the last time it happened i was driving along pines boulevard in peak hour traffic (tuesday april 21st 2015), as i approached the intersection of hiatus road and pines boulevard, i started slowing down for a red light. the vehicle then shut down/stalled again. the fact that there was a red light helped to prevent and accident, as everyone driving in the same direction had to stop. this time i had to call for a police cruiser to stand in place until i was able to get a tow or get it started again. after about 30 minutes, i finally got it started again and made it home. i took it to a honda dealer on wednesday april 22, 2015. they were able to replicate the issue but after replacing the battery (4-23-2015), fuel pump (4-24-2015) they said that the issue still persists and is now getting more frequent. they (autonation honda in miami lakes) have been trying to 'fix' the problem but they have not yet succeeded. today is may 3rd 2015 i am asking that the ntsb looks into this issue, as the last time it happened i was in peak hour traffic, this issue can lead to an accident.. i also contacted honda corporate customer service and reported the issue. It was a main road that was recently repaved. it is a main road. it is asphalt. i was driving at night. it had rained all day but was not raining at the time of crash. there is traffic on this main road so i was going about 25 miles per hour. suddenly the car accelerated and went right. i hit a parked car and my car flipped over. i was cut out of the car and taken to the hospital. i have cuts and bruises but i am otherwise ok. the airbags worked. what i am concerned about are the tires. original equipment goodyear eagles. the best guess is the car hydroplaned. i have read on the internet these tires tend to do this. i can't prove it was the tires but i want to go on record that i believe these tires are dangerous and should be recalled. they are original equipment on many new cars. if there are enough complaints like mine maybe it will be the smoke of a starting fire. *tr

Backed out of parking spot, upon shifting to drive, the rear view camera display was black except for two red lines. drove about 60 feet then upon making a right turn i realized there was no throttle response. the engine continued to operate. removed my foot from the throttle then reapplied my foot and the engine was then responsive to the throttle. the distance was approx. 20 feet and the time 10 seconds that the engine did not respond to the throttle. this car has many intermittent electrical problems, but this problem could be very serious in traffic. *tr
