While exiting off an interstate highway, the power steering tightened up making it difficult to make turns especially at lower speeds. i arrived to my destination narrowly avoiding an accident. i searched for other similar failures on the internet and noticed many more incidents, hence this complaint. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. while driving at approximately 35 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. the vehicle was towed to a dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 17,000. the vin was not available.
I was driving on i 75 north near miramar exit and i felt the steering wheel hard, then i looked at the dashboard and the esp light was on. i was able to reduce speed and use all my strength to go the the side isle. turned off the car and on again and the esp light was not there anymore. i got back my exit was less than a mile away. i exited on miramar pkwy east and the esp light came back again, i was able to stop but i couldn't turn right or left. i waited turned on and still had the problem. waited again and still have the problem. i called triple a and had the car towed to the nearest honda dealer and they showed what happened in their computer but it is not happening to the service techs now they are keeping the car but i suspect they won't do anything and i am really scared to drive the car now. i was lucky did not have an accident but not sure if i will next time it happens. *tr
On two separate occasions my steering has gone out. 1st time was on april 4 2015 going approx. 20 miles per hour, was about to turn into a parking lot. was totally unaware of what happen but steering got extremely hard. had to turn the car off, pull out the manual and see what the indicator light on the dash meant. then on april 24 2015, going approx. 75 miles per hour on the interstate it went out again. could have caused a serious accident. i had to pull over and turn my car off and restart it. needless to say i was a nervous wreck driving home. after this second incident is when i decided to research and see if others were having this problem and wow there are several. its a shame this has not been a recall by now. i am more appalled by the number of people that have brought their vehicles in and have been told by the service people they cannot recreate the problem so nothing gets done. will people need to be killed like the others car issues before this is resolved? my car just turned to 20,000 miles. i should not have issues. my car is going in on monday for service. lets see how this is handled. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. while driving at 40 mph, the steering wheel seized and excessive force on the steering wheel was required. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 41,000. updated 5/4/15*cn
The electric power steering on my 2013 honda accord sport suddenly fail. two of which occurred at speeds of less than 10 miles per hour, while making a left/right turns. after coming to a complete stop i was able to successfully turn off the car and restarted it to clear the problem. the third time it happened i was driving straight at 45 miles per hour, a power steering warning message flashed as the failure occurred. however on the third recurrence i tried the same the act without a correction. i then realized the car was not safe to drive and had it tow to the dealer. i also notified honda of north america on 3-18-15 at 3:15 hrs. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. the contact stated that the power steering failed and the power steering light illuminated. the failure recurred multiple times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer three times; however, the technician was unable to duplicate or diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 20,000.
I was sitting at a traffic light and the power steering quit while the car was stationary. ten minutes later the power steering quit while i was making a right hand turn from a traffic light. in both cases the steering re-set itself after turning the vehicle off then starting it back up. *tr
While driving straight i lost power steering. after pulling off road i shut the car off and restarted it and the steering re-set itself. *tr
2013 honda accord: i was driving about 35 mph and suddenly i felt the steering wheel get stiff and immediately the indicator light came on the dashboard indicating my electronic power steering system had an issue. i slowed down promptly in the road (no one was behind me) and it took all i had to turn the wheel to get it off the road. i turned the car off for a moment just as the honda manual instructed and when i turned the car back on, nothing had changed, still light on the dash and no possible way of me turning that wheel. i called aaa and the driver of aaa can vouch for this because it was still in the same condition when he picked it up. this was wednesday evening, december 23 that it was towed to the dealership. on friday morning, after dealer was closed christmas eve and christmas day, they called me saying nothing was wrong with my cari said really!!! i explained to them again and they ran a test and it said it needed software updates and/or electronic power steering rack. but honda requires the updates to be installed first and there is a charge for that according to the dealership. so i said do what you have to do. (which i think is absurd, microsoft doesn't charge me money for updates) with it being over the christmas holiday, i had to wait until monday for honda to be contacted (per dealership honda was closed) so i went 6 days with no car. monday came around and honda approved the dealership to do diagnostic testing on the car and with the safety concern they went ahead and replaced the electronic steering rack. i hope this has fixed the problem. there is nothing in the world that bothers me more than driving a car down the road and i lose control of steering. *tr
So scary when all of a sudden you can't move the steering wheel of your car. i couldn't get the car steering to move, it was worse than driving a mac truck. i had a real hard time getting around corners but what do you do when you have this happen at night with no one around but drive it to a safe place. *tr
I turned my vehicle on and had no power steering. the power steering light was on, indicating that there was a problem. i was able to drive it to the dealer where they told me the power steering torque had gone bad. to repair the vehicle, i would need to have the power steering rack replaced - over $2k! although my vehicle is less than 2 years old, i have passed the 35k mile warranty. this is a pretty painful bill to be forced to pay with such a new car!! why is this not recalled if so many are having issues with this?!! *tr
I was driving and suddenly lost control over the steering of the car. it became almost impossible to steer and almost ran into another car. was able to forcefully turn the wheel with all my might. pulled over safely and turned the car off and when i turned it back on the problem was gone. brought by car into the bode shop for unrelated issues and they experienced the problem while moving the car to another location. they will be bringing the car to honda service for review. i am uncomfortable driving this vehicle especially with my wife and daughters in the car. *tr
We had just pulled off of a major highway in bluffton south carolina. stopped at guard house and proceeded approx. 1/2 mile to stop sign when we tried to turn left without warning the (eps) power steering stopped working. we did not get a warning light until after the steering stopped working. you could not control the steering, but lucky for us we were turning into a parking area and stopped the car. we got out the owners manual and turned the car off as suggested, we restarted the car and the steering was still out and the warning light came on. we had the car towed to the closest honda dealer. this is the second time we had this happen. the first time was in august, 2014. the first time the system did reset after we turned the car off and restarted it. *tr
On 11/22/14 i was driving on a small residential street going under 15mph approximately 5 feet from the turn i was going to be making. a right hand turn. i heard a bang and my steering completely locked up. i hit the curb causing my right front passenger tire to blow. the steering was completely locked up and the vsa light was on. i followed the instructions in the owners manual and turned the car off and then on again which shut the vsa light off and the tow truck driver was able to turn the wheel slightly but made a terrible clunking noise. the vehicle was towed to the dealership where it was determined the steering rack was broken. now i am 2 weeks into this the dealership is struggling to get the car fixed, honda has not yet returned my call so not sure they will warranty the car, i'm paying for insurance on a rental and wonder if my honda is even a safe car to drive at this point. why isn't anything being done? is this going to take someone dying before it's dealt with? *tr
The vehicle's steering got very hard to turn while pulling into a parking spot. it became extremely difficult to steer all the way to the kingwood honda service dept. this problem happened immediate and without warning. as i drove the vehicle to the dealer it normalized and then without warning got very stiff. thus far the dealer does not know what is wrong with the vehicle and advised me today that they are going to call honda in the morning for guidance. *tr
As i was making a left turn at low speed from a stop sign, my car lost stability and steering felt unusual. traffic was light and i was able to recover. the two subsequent turns (right and then left) on the same drive yielded similar feelings. when i looked into this, i found reports of an investigation by the nhtsa regarding loss of power steering on these vehicles. i believe this incident was related and felt it best to file a report. *tr
While driving the steering system turn off and the steering wheel became hard to turn. *tr
I have a 2013 honda accord v6 coupe. when making a left turn the power steering went out i was able to just miss a curb and pulled into a parking lot wheel was very hard to turn. after shutting the car down and restarting the problem cleared. will be taking it to the dealer today. *tr
The power steering just stopped working as the car was being driven. it also stalled out and was hard to start back up. had it towed to dealer where the fix was the repair of the "torque angle sensor and harness." *tr
The power steering failed light illuminated and wasn't able to steer. was able to park and restart car and everything was fine. took it to the dealers they replaced the steering rack. car was at dealers for 6 days. *tr
In two incident that steering wheel stop working: last week while the car was parked and tried to drive it and today (oct 7, 2014) while i was driving between 35-40 mph the steering wheel was not working and i had to stop and switch the engine off and after 2 minutes start the car and it was fine. *tr
While driving down farris rd at ~40 mph the eps light came on and the power steering failed. this happened on the way back from my pregnant wife's doctor appointment. we pulled over to the nearest empty parking lot and read the manual. we hadn't been doing any of the things the manual said would cause this. over the next 10 miles this happened 3 more times. once while sitting still in a drive through line. we called our honda dealership and the offered to let us schedule an appointment and receive a shuttleride home. my wife got us slightly better service with a facebook post and they offered to look at our car that day and comped us a rental car under warranty. several hours later we received a call that after speaking with their tech support they will need to replace the rack. *tr
The vehicle steering simply 'shut-down', or locked-up out of nowhere. it appears the power steering system simply failed. i was only able to regain control of the steering by bringing the vehicle to a full stop in order to turn it off and then restart it... as though i were rebooting a crashed computer! the issue repeated itself three times the next day, once while driving at full speed on a public street. we resolved to stop driving it, but by reflex i took it out the third consecutive day only to have the issue recur twice, thankfully none of these failures occurred while we were executing a turn, otherwise we may have crashed into something or someone, as some of the other complaints describe. i have now put the vehicle into storage until honda addresses the issue definitively, as others describe dealership diagnoses across the board, with virtually all admitting the issue was unresolved, even after repair or replacement of the diagnosed component(s). whether i simply have a lemon, or this is a recall issue in the making, i do not yet know, but what i do know is that this appears to be a very serious safety issue rendering the vehicle too dangerous to drive. *tr
While driving on highway at 50 mph, the power steering failed and the steering light came on. luckily, i was able to slow the car down and get off of the highway. i pulled into a neighborhood and put the car in park. after several minutes, i put the car back in gear and the power steering was still out, but i was able to make it home. the next day, i started the car and the power steering was working. the steer wheel has jerked to the left/right on several occasions, but this was the first time that the power steering when completely out. i've brought the car to the dealer and am waiting for an explanation. *tr
On jan 24th, 2013 i took my car to the honda dealership for a problem with my power steering. the eps (electric power steering) system indicator came on and off several times and lost power steering during those times. the problem has been intermittent. the honda dealership tried to fix the problem 3 times. on feb 5th, 2013 the intermittent power steering problem seemed to be fixed. then on aug 21st, 2014 the power steer problem started again. i returned to the honda dealership and honda tried again to fix the intermittent power steering problem. on aug 22nd, i drove my honda accord out of the dealership and had to turn around and bring it back because the cars' eps (electric power steering) system indicator light came on and off again and i lost power steering during that time. i'm now waiting to see if the intermittent power steering problem can be found and fixed. since i bought my car the smart entry system indicator light has turned on and off intermittently without an adverse effect that i know of. i know an intermittent problem is hard diagnose and fix but i'm starting have less and less confidence in honda the company that manufactured my car..updated 11/03/14 *bf
I was driving and was about to turn on to my street and my power steering failed. it became really hard to turn. if there was a car parked i would have hit that car. i parked shut off the car and restarted the car and it seem fine till i turned the steering and as soon as i did it did the same exact things. honda replaced the part. but its really dangerous and i worry if or when it will go out again. *tr
While driving home on the highway power steering suddenly froze, and light came on . was able with great force, to make it home. very frightening experience! this has happened several more times at slower speeds . the dealer was not able to find a problem. luckily no accident but i feel unsafe driving with this intermittent yet scary situation. *tr
While driving at approx. 25 mph, suddenly the power steering completely failed and power steering warning light came on. as i was only a couple of blocks from home, i was able to hard steer it home. spouse turned engine off, started it back up and power steering reset. took it to the dealer. did diagnostic and determined : diagnose eps system per isis. found faulty torque sensor. replace complete power steering rack and perform alignment. after reading other similar complaints, i am hopeful that this will not happen again. it is extremely dangerous when this happens.
2013 honda accord (20k miles) issue: defective rack-n-pinion i attempted to put my accord in reverse and realized that i wasn't able to steer out of the driveway. it appeared that the steering wheel locked up or something was holding me from backing up. i also noticed an orange steering wheel indicator on my dash. (please keep in mind that my vehicle is in great condition. i've have it for over a year and i have never had this happen). i attempted to start my car a second time. this time it turned on just as before and the orange indicator light turned off. i felt it may have just been a fluke and i began driving down the street. however, not even half-a-mile down from my parents? house my accord steering wheel locked up again! this time it happened in the middle of the road while i was driving and while other vehicles were driving on the opposite side of the road. i could not maneuver my vehicle off the road. i just barely managed to angle the front part of my vehicle to the edge of a curb while the second half of the car was still in the street. dealership informed me that it was a defective electric rack-n-pinion which caused my steering wheel to lock up. i asked him if this was a recall, or vehicle malfunction and he couldn't completely 100% provide me with an explanation. he did inform me that it?s going to be a $1,200 part to be serviced and that i will probably be without my own accord for about a week. i strongly feel that the honda corp should be aware of this issue, so i contacted honda via twitter. i felt completely brushed off and the rep, he said well sorry to hear that sir but they are repairing the issue sir. this was my second and last honda that i would purchase. i know i'm not the only one with this issue. honda should definitely look into it. the rep told me that they haven't had this issue previously-doubt it! *tr
I was starting to drive after paying a toll on a bridge, when the car started jerking and the power steering went out. i could not control the car. car turned 45 degrees and was hit by a peterbuilt truck. there was $7000.00 worth of damage to the car. honda says there is nothing wrong with the car.

05/25/14 while backing the vehicle out of my drive way i noticed the a thumping sound and a jerking from the vehicle which caused great alarm from me. i called the dealer and they told me to bring it in. when i took the vehicle in the kept it for about a day and told me that they could not find anything wrong with it and that the inspector said that the same thing was happening to a new vehicle, that the noise and jerking was just the way it was. they called it a hard shift. my car is not a daily driven vehicle being i have two other cars that i primarily use. at the time of the incident my car had aprox. 303 miles on it. now several months later on 01/01/15 when i went to start my vehicle i noticed the same problem, and being that i had already taken it once to the dealer and them telling me nothing was wrong with it, i had no second thought of taking it out on the road. i proceeded to drive down my residential street and realized i had forgot something at home. so on the residential intersection i started to make a u turn when all of a sudden steering cut out on me in the middle of my turn. i narrowly missed oncoming traffic and stopped right before i hit the curb and a parked car. when i did stop and got my composure back i looked down and there was a steering wheel light on and a buzzing noise. all this while going no more then 6 miles and hour. at this current moment my car is less then 2 years old and has less then 400 miles on it and i cannot believe that this would happen to such a new car with so little miles on it. following this incident i googled my car to see if i was the only one having this problem and lord behold i was not. there are numerous accounts of this happening to other people some resulting in serious accidents. but most of the cars in those incidents that i could see had about 20k to 30k miles on them and mine does not even have 1k on it yet. *tr
While driving on florida turnpike at approx 65 mph, i first felt a subtle change in the tires/traction of the car, so i look at the dash to see if i had a low tire pressure indicator, nothing. i took my foot off the gas, and i felt a slight swerve, then i saw "eps!" indicator on the dash. the steering wheel was completely locked up, with no play left to right at all! completely stiff. i let the car continue to coast because i was scared to apply the brakes if it would make it worse, thank god no one rear ended me, and as the road curved, i ran off into the grassy median of an exit ramp and nothing was in my path. i looked up what eps! was, and the owners manual suggested to restart the car. upon restarting, the indicator was gone. the car is being towed to the dealer in the morning. i am scared to drive the car, not knowing if this can happen again, and if my family and i will be safe in this car. *tr

While coming to a stop in my parking spot, i applied the brake and the vehicle suddenly accelerated, with engine surge /loud noise and there were no brakes...... car plowed over parking spot barrier, into shrubs, balcony beam and neighbor's screened patio. there is considerable damage to my vehicle , shrubs, neighbor's patio and my balcony. this was a terrifying event. investigations by insurance co and mechanic are pending at this time. *tr
As my vehicle was accelerating onto a highway on-ramp, i lost almost all power to my vehicle, and it became more difficult to steer. the check engine light came on, the electric power steering light came on, the traction control light came on, and my tire warning light started flashing. was barely able to make it into the emergency lane, and probably would have been rear-ended had a car been following close behind. once in the emergency lane, a burning odor could be smelled by all 4 passengers in the car. there was nothing wrong with my tires. car had to be towed to dealership for repairs which are pending. this vehicle has the new "cvt" transmission, and i suspect this may be part of the problem. this should not be happening in a brand new car, this is a safety issue for sure. *tr
low volume...clicking/rubbing noise when making turns. honda knows of problem.. said there is no fix and it is a characteristic of this car. their words not mine .... safety issue? *tr
Driver was making a left hand turn. steering jerked to the left and then to the right. driver was able to regain control of the steering. if another vehicle had been in the lane next to the driver, an accident would have occurred. after first and second incident, honda service department in burleson, tx still say they can find nothing wrong with the vehicle. honda of burleson is still in possession of this vehicle. their advice to us was to trade it in and they would sell it at auction. we found that to be unacceptable. no one should be driving this car, as it is unsafe to drive. *tr
The power steering malfunctioned on the new jersey turnpike exit 9 highway entrance ramp. *trupdated 06/03/14 *bf on 9/30/13, the steering wheel had locked (technically the electrical power steering, or eps, malfunctioned and stopped working) on a highway as i was changing lanes at high speed (and the steering system proceeded to move the car in the direction of the highway median) and i had to force the wheel as strongly as i could to turn it back onto the road- all less than two months after purchasing the car brand new. 10/30/13, the eps stopped working while i was on a sharply bending on-ramp to a highway and veered the car into the median on the ramp.updated 9/15/2014 by sc the consumer stated the vehicle was totaled. the electronic power steering system indicator appeared after the steering malfunctioned. it is unknown if the warning appeared on 10/30/2013. the vehicle first failed on 9/30/2013 then again on 10/30/2013. the power steering was repaired after the first failure. the steering rack was replaced. updated 06/09/2014 *js

As i was turning into a parking lot, the electric power steer froze up. i had no control over the steering and almost went into a building. also another car was coming the other direction and had to stop short just shy of hitting my car. it worked again once i turned off the car and restarted it. when i came out of the store, the steering locked up again when i try to get out of the parking space. i felt unsafe to drive the car and had it towed to the dealership.
My power steering went out and i hit the right side of my car in a parking garage. the power steering light came on. my husband brought the car into the service center at honda of bowie. the service folks said it was fixed after doing a computer update. i brought it back because the problem kept reoccurring. my husband brought it back in again on july 2, 2014 because the problem reoccurred several times since the last "fix." the service personnel did another computer reset and my car has had the same power steering problems since then. today (monday, july 7, 2014), the power steering failed again and steered the car into oncoming traffic resulting in another near miss. i have called honda of bowie to get a loaner vehicle but they are out of loaner vehicles so i need to continue to drive the car to and from work. *js
My new 2013 honda accord ex-l has a push button start/stop. while driving with my foot on the gas and the car in drive (its an automatic), if you accidentally push the engine start/stop button, it cuts the power to the engine. so you can effectively turn the car off, loose power to the engine and loose the power steering while the car is in drive and you are driving. i believe this is a severe safety issue, since you would not be able to do this to a car with a keyed ignition while you are driving. additionally, the engine start/stop button is right next to the air conditioning buttons. i was trying to adjust the air conditioning while i was driving and couldn't take my eyes off the road to look at the air conditioning buttons. *tr
