My power steering failed twice in one day. while trying to parallel park the engine was running and the power steering shut off and was very difficult to turn. this continued for about 10 minutes then it corrected itself. the same thing happened about 30 minutes later. each time it was from a stationary position on a city street trying to parallel park. i am lucky that it didn't happen on the highway.

I am driving between 20-30 mph. the power steering light comes and immediately loses power steering. i am a big guy and i have to use a lot of strength to move to the side of the road. i shut off car for a few minutes and restart car. the problem went away. this happened 3x time in the last month

Honda has notified of an electronic power steering torque sensor defect which could cause loss of power steering. they provided a software update which only retains partial steering control and that the vehicle would still be disabled, i would be stranded and would have to be towed. i have requested a replacement of the electronic power steering assembly to prevent my having an accident. they acknowledge the safety defect but are only willing to replace the defective parts if there is a failure. after discussions, they offered to pay half of the cost (approx. $500) but i can't afford $500. i would like assistance in correcting this safety issue.

Steering wheel is stiffer to the right than to the left. i need extra effort to turn the steering wheel to the right. it happens everytime i turn the steering wheel.

Cannot steer when turning and when turning the wheels keep turning, cannot get the speed up normally have to pump the gas hard for car to accelerate.

Power steering failure on september 13 2015 while driving the car. drove car with no power steering home system reset the next day. failure again on september 28. dropped off at honda dealer lou sobh in cumming ga

i've had my car for about two years now and about a month into me owning the vehicle i was driving around town and the steering wheel locked up and the eps light came on for about 5 seconds and then cleared. i took it to the honda dealership where i purchased the car and their service department could not find anything wrong. i havnt had any problems up until last week. i was driving home on the freeway doing about 55 mph and all of a sudden the steering wheel locks up and the eps light comes on. i had to muscle the car over a few lanes to get to the emergency lane to avoid hitting anyone. after a few seconds the eps light clears and the steering wheel function goes back to normal. since this happened once before i figured it will be fine. i thought that until my steering wheel locked up on me again a few miles down the road. then again as i am a few miles from home. i had to drive to school and from school the next day and only had access to my car and my power steering locked up about a dozen times. i don't feel safe driving my car and i'm setting up an appointment for later on this week to see what's going on.

During a trip to virginia from fla. i stopped at rock hill carolins for gas. upon leaving the station and before getting back on 95 north my power steering failed. i was able to pull over and restart the car resetting the steering. approximately 40 miles later on 95 the steering failed a second time. i again made the next exit and was able to reset everything. i turned around and went home with no subsequent failures. the power steering electronic module was replaced by honda approximately a year ago or less and this is a repeat of the symptoms at that time. this is a principal safety issue.

Power steering suddenly failed in the vehicle, making it impossible to steer.

At a stop sign, made a right turn. right after i made the turn, at approximately 15-20 mph the power steering abruptly failed. power steering failure light then came on. pulled over and after turning off the car and then back on, the steering worked again, though it failed in a similar manner after driving for about another 5 minutes.

The car has lost power steering on three occasions over the past one and one half weeks. the first time, 8/19/2015, after waiting at a red light to make a left turn, i could barely turn the steering wheel to make the turn. i forced the turn and could smell a burning smell. i turned the car off, read the manual, then turned the car on and drove the less than a mile to my home with no problem. on 8/26/2015, after driving less than a half mile from home at not more than 20-30 miles an hour, the car lost steering power again. i pulled over, turned the car off, then turned it back on. i returned home and drove the car less than 20 miles to the honda dealership in wesley chapel florida. they kept the car. when i picked it up on 8/27/2015, i was told that a software update had been done. on 8/28/2015, i drove the car approximately 50 miles around town doing errands. when i started the car to back out of a store parking lot, i noticed the steering symbol was lighted and found that the car would not steer. i turned the ignition off, then right back on and returned home. i am now going to take the car back to the honda dealer in wesley chapel.

I was maneuvering into a parking spot in a 6 tiered parking lot and cutting my wheel to navigate into the spot and the power steering went out all of a sudden. then the error light popped on. with all my might i had to try and back into a spot but could not hardly turn the wheel. when i did back up taking up 2 spots i turned off the car and restarted and it seems to allow me easier to steer (too easy actually) i then maneuvered to go into another single spot and when turning the wheel it locked on me again but i was able to turn the wheel enough to get into the spot. i am afraid to drive it and thank god that it was not last night as i was on the expressway at midnight. this should not be happening to a 2013 at all. i am seeing other complaints and honda is just turning their heads and having us pay for this manufacturers error with our money and possible our lives?

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving 15 mph, the power steering warning indicator illuminated, the steering wheel then became difficult to turn. the vehicle was taken to dealer where the failure was undetermined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 23,015.

while driving on i-95, i experienced a sudden loss of power steering. a caution light appeared on the instrument panel. i was within a few miles of a honda dealership, so i drove there. after the car sat for a few minutes, the indicator light was no longer on; and, the power steering appeared to be normal. i was told the problem was transitory and i resumed traveling on i-95. less than 20 miles later, the same problem happened again. i pulled to the side of the road, and once again shut the vehicle off for a few minutes. i then drove approximately 250 miles without incident. later that same day, while driving on another highway at 60 mph, the power steering suddenly failed. at the same time, the caution indicator light appeared on the instrument panel. i made an appointment for two days later at another honda dealership. on the day of the appointment, while driving in city traffic at 25 mph, the power steering failed three times before i arrived at the dealer. that day, the service department was unable to find the source of the problem. they cleared the fault indicator from the computer's memory; and, told me to return if the problem occurred again. several days later, while traveling on an expressway at 55 mph, the power steering failed one more time, along with the indicator light again appearing on the instrument panel at the same time. the following day, i brought the vehicle back to the dealership. they informed me, that after talking with honda advisors via telephone, honda was aware of the problem; and, instructed them on a fix. after performing that fix, they said honda informed them, that if the power steering didn't fail within 500 miles, it wouldn't recur in the lifetime of the car. after driving approximately 400 miles since the fix, the power steering again failed. the car is going back to honda, again.

While changing lanes on the highway the steering wheel stiffened ,that caused me to go to the shoulder with breaking hard to stop from going into the guard rail.

While driving down the road at approximately 30-40 mph, the eps (electronic power steering) light on the dashboard came on. seconds later, the steering wheel stiffen up and was nearly impossible to turn the wheel. i immediately turn on my hazard warning lights and started to decrease my speed. eventually, with much physical force and effort i was able to make it "safely" off the main road into an entrance to a construction site. i put the car in park and turned it off. after about 15 second, i turn the car back on and the power steering return to normal and the eps dashboard light went off. call the dealership to make an appointment. however, this issue should be a recall as it can cause great harm to vehicle occupants and other drives in the case of an accident.

Driving down houston freeway when out of nowhere my steering wheel became too hard to move. immediately after the light on dash for steering wheel came on. i was able to safely make my way to far right lane where i was able to exit. once i exited i turned off vehicle restarted and both steering and light were back to normal. i drove down maybe 4-5 miles going 30 (i didn't get back on freeway) and it happened again! once again i stopped car and restarted with same results. i had already contacted dealer since it happened to me once before but at night in a back country road. they informed me they could do a diagnostics test for a fee. (they have done this test before but for 2 other problems with vehicle the key light came on the dash for no apparent reason and the rear camera screen kept going black) i remember then they couldn't do anything for me since they were unable to replicate the problem. i am so glad my little ones were not in the car when this has happened. i don't feel safe driving this car anymore its unbelievable that with all of these complaints nothing has been done to remedy situation.

While traveling down a country road i stopped to make a right turn, as soon as i made the right turn the steering light came on and my steering wheel stiffened up tot he point where i could not turn properly. as soon as i tried turning in either direction the steering wheel would feel like it wanted to turn the opposite direction. was able to safely drive to a gas station and turned off car. once it was shut down we checked the power steering fluid and it was full. checked for any leaks could not find any. left vehicle turned off for at least 10 minutes then restarted. the light did not stay on and the steering wheel became manageable. will contact dealer to see if there is anything they can do. i doubt it though, not unless they can replicate the incident themselves.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. when the vehicle was started, the steering wheel was difficult to turn after the power steering warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 41,800.

When driving the 2013 honda accord this morning at 60 mph for several miles, the power steering problem light lit on the dash and immediately lost all power to turn the steering. after another mile or so, and barely being able to turn the vehicle, the car was turned off and then back on. this must have reset the component as the light was off and steering was back to normal. fortunately, the car was not in a turn when this occurred as it may have caused a serious accident. 2 hours later, i was at the dealer and was advised that they would change out the rack for $1700. this part has a 3 year / 36k warranty. my car is 2 years old but with 58k miles (highway). a rack should last far longer than 2 years, plus with the new technology, honda should be willing to fix it to learn to keep it from happening on future models.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. when the vehicle was started, the steering warning light indicator illuminated and the power steering failed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the electronic gear box needed to be replaced. the vehicle was ot repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 36,600.

Drove the car on wednesday, with no issues. on thursday, my daughter went to use the car. car started, eps warning light was on, on dash. there was no steering. i had the car towed to the dealer, and am waiting to hear back.

I was traveling on the interstate when a warning light came on stating that there was an issue with my power steering. the vehicle became very hard to steer. luckily, i wasn't far from the nearest dealer and pulled into have it checked out. i turned my car off while waiting for a technician. when the technician started the car the warning light was off and the power steering was working. they still took the care back to check it out, but said they could not find anything. they said that if it happened again i may need to replace the torque sensor(dtc 53-01), which would cost $674.88.

Steering wheel locks up while driving. eps is the problem

I started my engine and was backing up my car, when i noticed i couldn't turn the steering wheel. i stopped the engine and restarted the car as indicated in the manual. the steering wheel was almost impossible to turn. the car was towed to the honda dealership and they gave me a bill of $1800 to work on the power steering to torque sensor? and the pins and rack? i'm terrified that this will occur again, but when i am driving resulting in an accident. i am terrified that the replacement parts will fail. this is a 2013 honda accord coupe, i don't think the power steering should be failing in 2015. what will prevent the replacement parts from being just as faulty? i understand there is an investigation on this model, but honda dealership seems to be sitting down until people are injured.

While driving the car suddenly loses power steering. once the car is turned off and back on the problem normally resloves. there was one instance that took turning the car off several times to get it to reset. i have had this problem occur atleast 6 -8 times over the past month. when i called the honda dealership they said they had never heard of this problem occuring. i have scheudled an appointment for them to take a look.

On july 2, 2015 while driving 40 mph, power steering failed and indicator light came on. had car towed to dealer next day, software update done, and i was told the problem should not reoccur. on oct 6, 2015, while turning into a parking lot, it failed again. had car towed to dealer and told they will now replace gearbox. i asked what was causing this and how this fix will work and was told they don't know! they're following instructions from the manufacturer. this is very unsafe, and appears honda does not truly know how to fix this.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. the contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the steering wheel seized and the power steering warning light illuminated. the failure recurred several times intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 49,500.

As i was driving down the highway my eps failed causing me to be unable to steer my vehicle. i pulled over to the side of the highway, turned the car off and back on, the eps system reset itself. this has happened 10-15 times. i have taken it to the dealership and they have had my car 2 weeks now trying to figure it out. so far, no luck!

I was driving s on i-55 a few miles n of west memphis. as i attempted to change lanes my steering wheel was very hard to turn. i looked all over the dash & found a small light shaped like a steering wheel on the far left of the dash. fortunately i was near an exit and was able to get to a station. turning in & parking was almost impossible. the owners manual said to turn car off and on. this corrected the problem and i drove the approximate 200 miles to my home. i planned to get it checked out at honda. two days later the keyless ignition failed about ten times before finally starting. the dome lights had come on but no dash lights came on & it just beeped at me. previously i had a low battery (listened to music too long) which failed to start but even then the dash lights lit up & flashed. it seemed like both incidents indicated an electrical or ecu problem. i drove to the dealership and reported the problem. i was told they would have to recreate the incidents. they have had my car 3 1/2 days with no word. i finally called today. was told they couldn't recreate it so couldn't do anything! i told them i didn't feel safe driving the car. i pointed out the number of complaints listed on the arfc.com site. the service manager talked to honda engineers who continued to contend it had to be duplicated in the computer to solve it. i stressed the safety issue and that i would not feel safe driving the car again without solving this. they are going to do more testing. an hour earlier in my trip i was on a very curvy hilly 2 lane road. i feel if this had occurred there i could easily have had a terrible accident - while i had 2 grandchildren in the back seat! there are a number of incidents like this reported. why has something not been done?! my car has 36,500 miles and fortunately i purchased an extended warranty! i just hope we can agree on a solution.

When moving approximately 15 mph or making a routine turn, the power system failure light appears. all power assist is lost. i have taken vehicle to authorized honda dealership at least three time. problem not corrected. dealership suggest turn ignition off and restart. this works sometimes but not always. i fear for my safety due to this unpredictable ongoing problem!!! update 9/15/15*cw *cn

The power steering light came on; and lost all power steering power. the incident happened while i was turning left. with great difficulty i was able to steer out of traffic. the symptom went away after the vehicle was turned off and turned on. the symptom again happened after about 5 minutes of driving.

Electronic power steering system has failed for the 5th time in the last month. eps light illuminates on dashboard, total loss of steering control. vehicle is not safe to drive. was originally cleared by turning the car on and off, but now fails immediately upon starting vehicle. dealership quoted $1,700 repair - this should be a recall.

Had gotten back in my car after a stop at a retail store. when i turned the car on the tire pressure light was blinking, the electric power steering light was on, and the vehicle stability assist light was on. i pulled over at another store within a half mile. i got out and checked the tires for a possible flat - no problem. turned car back on and same scenario with the 3 lights on. only difference was the tire pressure light stopped flashing but stayed on continuously. i looked in car manual, page 6 of honda technology reference guide, under the heading of malfunction indicators and it said, "if an indicator remains on, there may be a problem; see your dealer". i will call my car dealer in the morning. i want to state that i still had full control of my power steering. i read of others losing the power steering but mine was okay. after the second stop the 3 malfunctioning indicator lights went out.

Power steering failed. updated 9/25/15 *ln the consumer stated the vehicle failed 3 times while driving between 10 and 35 mph. updated 12/28/2015*js

The steering wheel was unable to turn when backing up for parallel parking after a few times, when practicing right before my daughter's driving test. then i tried myself a couple time without luck that i had to pull it off. i was unable to tell anything was wrong since there are no any error lights on the instrument panel. i was able to turn it while driving forward, though. after being parked in the parking lot for some time, it began to work ok again, and it did not fail my daughter's driving test - a good thing. it really raised a big concern for me that a hidden issue of the steering wheel failure exists with my car. i really need honda to recall it and fix it before it is too late with horrible consequences. your help with this is greatly appreciated.

I had parked the car in a parking space at dollywood in pigeon forge, tennessee. when i came back out and started the car the light for the steering system came on and i could barely turn the steering wheel. i looked in the manual but starting and restarting the car did not solve the problem. the car was unsafe to drive. had this occurred at speed i could not have controlled the car . i called honda roadside assistance and they had a tow truck sent out to get the car. the tow truck company is going to take the car to a honda dealership monday june 1st so i will not know any more till than. i do see on the internet of people with similar complaints. i do not know if i should have reported this till after the dealer checks the car or not but after seeing similar complaints i wanted to report it if similar problems reoccur.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. while driving 35 mph, the steering wheel seized and became difficult to control. the power steering warning light illuminated. the failure occurred once. the dealer diagnosed that the power steering failed. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 41,000. updated 10/15/15*lj updated 05/10/16.*jb

So this has now happened 3 times in the last few months, once about a month ago and twice last week (after having the car dropped off to fix the brake tsb that causes a squeak on turns). i will be driving down the road from aggressive to normal driving and all of a sudden i look at my dash only to see all the warning lights on. once this happens you can see the mpg indicator has a delay, a change in behavior of the cars controls, ldw switch no longer functions, and ldw and fcw stop working. the car continues to drive but you can tell all electronics are experiencing a delay or issue with the exception of the navi and radio. some of the lights go away and come back as you drive, and after turning the car on and off a few times all lights turn off with the exception of fcw and ldw with the "fcw system failure" message which remain, that goes away after a few hours.

Started car, put in reverse and could not turn steering wheel in either direction. could only steer straight. information display issued this warning: power steering system problem (eps). tried the what to do when the indicator message comes on in the owners manuel several times. didn't work, car is sitting disabled in driveway. now it is up to us to have it towed to local dealship to find out if there is a problem with the car according to honda motors.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. while driving at 30 mph, the steering wheel jerked multiple times. in addition, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. the contact had to apply force to the steering wheel in order to turn the vehicle. the power steering warning light illuminated. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 33,600.

The vehicle has an electronic power steering problem. the car was being driven and the car eps light came on while i was driving at about 30 mph and coming of the highway ramp. i lost control of all steering and almost caused an accident. this car cannot be considered safe at all. i was not able to drive my car afterwards and was forced too without power steering because i have to drive to work. if this is not a safety hazard i dont know what would be considered then.

While traveling at approximatley 45 miles per hour, my streeing wheel became very stiff and then completely locked. i turned the vehicle off and back on again which corrected the problem.
