Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. the contact stated that the steering column was difficult to maneuver and needed excessive effort to operate while being operated at 15 mph. the failure occurred without warning. greenwich honda (289 mason st, greenwich, ct) diagnosed that the power steering rack was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
While on vacation in the mountains of tennessee the eps indicator came on the instrument display. that was failure of the power steering! it came on when starting the car after driving it for a short slow drive, which seems to be the major contributing factor--slow speed with acceleration. after having the software updated (which did not fix this issue) i am being told only the rack & pinion portion of the eps has been extended to be covered by honda and not the eps control unit which is the code my car is showing. excuse me! the steering of a vehicle is a major deal. honda should fix this and be glad to do it. this is a huge safety issue and should not be taken lightly. i am being told the repair cost is about $750. this has really put a bad taste in my mouth for honda; this is the fourth accord i have owned but will probably be the last one. shame on honda for not standing behind their vehicles and components. shame on the nhtsa for not forcing them to recall these cars and keep us all safer on the roadways when the complaints are numerous for the same issue!
I made a right hand turn and proceeded down the street. the power steering did not work as i started down the street. i managed to pull over to side of street. the indicator light came on. waited 5 minutes then continued driving, power steering did not work again and indicator light came on. as i proceeded to pull over again the power steering began to work. luckily i was traveling at a slow speed when the powering steering failed.
Just one day ago i was driving my honda accord ex-l sedan 2013 and i went to turn under the underpass and the steering wheel randomly locked up on me and i could barely turn the steering wheel so i panicked and i must of hit the gas pedal while trying to control the vehicle, but i couldn't turn it enough and i ran over the curb and into the underpasses cement pillar totaling the car so the next day i woke up and was so confused by what happened because that has never happened to me before and when i looked up what happened to me it seems that plenty of people have reported the same issue, but most of them ended up fine, but since i was trying to make a turn that the car wouldn't let me make once i already engaged in trying to turn i wasn't as fortunate as those other drivers luckily i wasn't killed or seriously injured.
We purchased the honda accord 2013 v6 10/22/2017. steering wheel was tight we noticed ,that night of the 23rd, 2nd time driving it my son turned the corner and the steering wheel locked and he ran into the cement pole and totaled his car. we didn't even have it one full day. we later looked up on the internet that honda was under investigation for power steering locking up or electrical and saw people totaled there cars or had the same issues 464k cases. my son was hurt but could have been worse. honda needs to be sued for this and i want in on it. the car was in my name i bought for my 21 yr old son after his car flooded in harvey. something needs to be done immediately.
Driving when power to steering went out. in motion/ city street auto in to dealer 3 wks prior on recall service and power steering level checked and report indicates "checked and ok at this time. other complaints on line of same problem with this model - waiting eval by honda north tomorrow a.m
Power steering wheel failure. power steering wheel warning light came out and can't control the steering wheel while driving. extremely dangerous!! recall is mandatory.
Power steering failure shows up on the dashboard, and power steering fails. after turning off/ on car the problem is resolved, but this keeps happening. took to the dealership, but they could not find anything wrong. they suspected it could be due to the battery, which i had replaced. once i left the dealership, the power steering failed again. i have been reading about problem regarding the power steering in 2013 honda accords all over the internet.
My car is 2013 accord bought brand new from gardena honda and no other mechanic touched it. since 2013, i have serviced my car at the same location. my car was perfectly fine however, once i received the battery recall letter i decided to take my car into gardena honda. please note my car still has less than 30,000 miles on it. august 2017 i went to get my car checked for the battery recall they said everything was fine and that they applied konshi bond to protect bms. two days later after work my car did not start (stationary). check engine was on, check steering light on & traction light on plus low pressure on. i immediately felt unsafe to drive my car but had to take it back to honda to see what they had done to it. honda said it was not their fault and that now the problem had nothing to do with my battery. instead, it was my engine wire harness. that needed to be fixed for a price of ~$2,800 but they could lower it to $669.15 + tax i just want to express how disappointed i am in honda. i bought a honda because they are supposed to be a reliable car. back in march 2016 they told me by battery failed the battery test and decided to charge it. november 2016, they made me buy a new battery, at that time my car was still brand new with only 22,000 miles on it. i don't believe this is coincidence. i got a honda for reliability reasons. i also know you are not supposed to service the car for the same issue 3 times and i shouldn't be concern of my 2013 honda car that still has less than 30,000 miles of any electrical issues. i am concern of service fraud because i was charge to recharged and replace the battery. one time i was within warranty and the other was just a few months afterward. i am requesting a reimbursement of some manner; it can be monetary or free servicing my car.
While driving on the highway the power steering warning light (its a little orange steering wheel with an ! next to it) comes on and the wheel becomes very hard to turn. the car also feel unstable as if i were driving over a bridge in high wind. this has happend twice so far in the last two days. both times were at night on the highway about 20 minutes into a 45 min commute. luckily for me it was late at night so i was able to pull over without incident. turning off the car and restarting it after a minute temporarily fixed the problem.
In the few years i've had my car, which i take very good care of and have low mileage on, the power steering stopped working suddenly while i was driving (very scary and dangerous!), the driver's side sun visor broke one day when i was trying to put it back up, and the dashboard sensors go off unnecessarily. very disappointing from a honda vehicle. beware!
I was in the middle of the road and the steering locked, this has happened twice on 07/18/2017 and 04/20/2017. i thank god for my life
This is an update on what i experience with my 2013 honda accord 7/4/2017. on this day which was independence day my eps locked up while leaving south carolina headed back to north caroline. i had to have my car towed to the nearest honda dealership to exam the car to see why the system locked up. as i researched the issue i notice several issue with the eps system in this year model. i read that an extended warranty was given on the torque sensor 5 year. as honda diagnosed the vehicle they did the update and replaced the torque sensor, but the part that would allow the system to work was not covered under the extended warranty and that was the control unit. i located another article an it also had that honda was aware of this issue as well, but extended this warranty to only the fit and civic not the accords. i will be writing a letter to the corporate office regarding this issue as well. i'm not sure why they would only extend it to those two cars when accord are the number #1 seller. this was my second honda car and over all my family have purchased 4 honda cars. the cost for the control unit was almost $600.00 which i refused to pay and honda service brought the balance to $500.00 even as if they was doing me a favor. the service member and service was terrible and right now as a owner i'm not a satisfied client. if eps is a known issue why was the entire system extended under warranty. you know why it wasn't extended because they want the customer to pay for something at the end of the day. i know we all look for new improve ways to make technology better, but making an electric power steering was not a bright idea in my option. luckily i was not driving on a highway doing 70 miles an hour and the steering locked up it could have been fatal for me or someone else. today i think my option on purchasing a vehicle with honda will be last on the list.
7/4/2017 was out of town in south carolina and my eps light came on when leaving a function. i was unable to turn my steering wheel as normally. after turning the car off and trying to reset the car the light came on again with the wheel and steering have issues. was unable to drive back to north carolina and had to get my car towed. now my car is at the honda dealership which is the company i purchased from and they have to determine why light came on my 2013 honda accord which i show reviews and complaints about a known issue.
Power stering gets really tight and was hard to steer
When reversing from a parking space and while turning the steering wheel to the left, the eps light indicator came on and my steering wheel was very hard to turn/would not turn at all. i shut off the car 3 times after waiting a minute each time. the light still came one and the wheel was still stuck. after waiting about 5 minutes and restarting, it went away. took my car to the dealership today and it is there now. they are stating i may need to use my extended warranty for coverage but after researching, seems to be a glitch in the torque censor. hoping they will do the software update without needing to use my warranty.
Power steering failed while at a red light on 5/21/2017. it fixed itself after 3 car restarts (over the course of ~5 hours). the car was taken to the dealer on 5/22/2017 for software update to the electronic power steering control unit. the car drove fine until 5/27/2017 when it again lost power steering, this time while navigating a turn at 50mph on the freeway. luckily, i was able to regain control of the car without hitting any other cars. clearly, there is a problem with the electronic power steering and their software update does not solve the problem.
Failure of power steering wheel while driving in the highway..went to the dealership about the problem they said software update was needed.. few months later loss of power steering and steering light comes back on while driving on the local road.. if you turn off the engine and restart light will disappear and power steering works again
Car keeps losing its power steering. doesn't matter what speed, nor how long i've been driving it, it's even gone out sitting at a traffic light. the only way to get it back is to turn the car off and then turn it back on. very scary when it goes out in the middle of a curve in the road.
Power steering failed while driving! this is the 2nd time this has happened within 6 mos. first time i was able to restart the steering by turning off the ignition and restarting. this time 4/20/17 can't get the epr to return!!! the car was in motion both times on local streets.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. while driving approximately 50 mph, the steering wheel locked up. the contact coasted to a fuel station and the vehicle was turned off. the electronic power steering warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was started and the steering ability became very difficult. the vehicle was driven home. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where it was diagnosed that the electronic power steering system needed to be replaced; however, it was not covered under warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
Steering gets pulled to one side. thought might be the alignment but that did not fix anything
While driving about 40mph in a straight line i suddenly lost power steering. i had the eps light show on my dash. i pulled over and restarted the car 2 or 3 times before the power steering came back to normal. the steering was incredibly hard to turn. a few hours later i brought the car to a honda dealer and they were able to confirm that an error code was logged during incident: dtc 71-01 motor angle sensor (sin/cos signals) unfortunately, they were not able to determine the cause of the above eps failure. they concluded that the issue is "intermittent" and that i should continue to drive the car and see if it happens again. i am afraid to drive this car now after this experience.
When i stopped for paying toll, car displayed engine light and steering safely light with jerking sound, not acceleration and steering g locked for few seconds and then released . i pulled the vehicle to parking lot and stopped...i started the vehicle after 3 minutes ... there is a rattling noise in the engine and (fcw) warning came... says fcw system failed . i left the car at parking lot and towing back to dealer tomorrow... not safe to drive as the accelation is very erratic and consistent ...traveling with my kids and scared of losing control of the car... it is on interstate 294 close o'hare airport .. christmas day and all repair shops closed
Traveling on freeway and a power steering indicator light turned on (see image). the steering became extremely difficult and the car was slightly swaying (similar to driving in a high wind area, except there was no wind). once exiting the freeway and decreasing the speed the steering became increasingly difficult. the car experienced a complete power steering failure. once safely at a gas station the car was shut off and turned on again. at this point, the power steering returned to normal. car was driven to a honda dealership for inspection and servicing.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. the contact stated that the steering wheel was extremely tight and hard to turn left and right. the contact mentioned that the failure was progressing. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering gear box needed to be replaced. in addition, the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was included in a service campaign to update the eps software and address the eps torque sensor but the contact was uncertain if the manufacturer solution would provide a remedy to prevent the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 47,000.
While driving at about 30 miles an hr. attempting to change lanes just before a traffic light suddenly steering the car became difficult and i noticed a warning light on. i was able to pull over stop the car then restart it without a steering problem. mentioning it to my son, he recalled having the same trouble with my car 3 weeks ago. *tr
My vehicle, a 2013 honda accord ex-l v6, has been having issues where a power steering light would come on in my warning lights, and then i would lose the assistance of electronic power steering. my commute is a short one in the suburbs of chicago. however, if i were actually in downtown chicago, or on a highway, the eps failure could be fatal. the first time it happened, i was driving across irving park road, and i pulled over and restarted the car. when i checked the power steering fluid reservoir the next day, it was low and took half a bottle of power steering fluid to fill. the problem recently resurfaced tonight when i was driving home from class. even after restarting the vehicle several times, the power steering never came back.
Tl* the contact owned a 2013 honda accord. while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle suddenly pulled to the right without the contact turning the steering wheel. the vehicle crashed into the wall on the side of the road. the air bags deployed. the vehicle was destroyed and towed. a police report was filed. the contact received injuries to the leg, arm, and hand. the passenger received injuries to their collar bone and knee. medical attention was required. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the contact received a notice from the manufacturer indicating that the vehicle needed to be examined for a possible power steering failure due to an extensive amount of complaints that started an investigation regarding the same failure the approximate failure mileage was 14,000. updated 01/31/17*lj *cn
Two weeks ago, my steering wheel pulled left quickly and then back. i thought i hit a rock. in the past two weeks same issue. yesterday, pulled out of the garage and the steering wheel indicator light came on. read the book. restarted the engine. it went away. today, after driving about 5 minutes indicator light came on again. steering wheel froze. restarted and ok. driving on major highway, indicator light came on and all steering was frozen. i am traveling, therefore had to find the closest honda dealer. i am now stranded for two days awaiting repair. i'm 8 hours from home, and now suspicious and worried whether i will return home safely. after reading some entries, i too had slow movements since i have owned this vehicle -- thought is was the new cvs engine.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. while parking the vehicle, the power steering suddenly failed and caused the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn. after the vehicle was restarted, the power steering later returned to normal. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 37,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. while driving approximately 10 mph, the power steering malfunctioned and caused the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn. as a result, the vehicle crashed into a tree. there were no injuries and a police report was not filed. the contact indicated that the failure previously occurred after the battery was recharged. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was an electrical short in the dome light. the dome light was removed. the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 55,000.
This week, with the car at 33,000 miles on it, my accords' eps light has been going on and off when starting the car. if it's lighted up and you try to drive, you how no power steering. i have to turn off the car and restart. sometimes it take upmtomfive try's.
When driving all of a sudden power steering fails all the lights on the dashboard flash on and off and all the electrical's shut off including heat/ac. everything goes back to normal after a few seconds. this happens randomly and at various speeds. *tr
While driving on busy atlanta interstate at 55 mph the car became hard to steer all of the sudden and the eps light came-on on the dash board. therefore, i had to muscle the car over into the shoulder and shut-off the car and restart it then the light went off and i was able to steer it properly. this has occurred twice so far.
Electric power steering my electric power steering light and vehicle stability light came on and the steering felt very loose. i turned the car off and back on and lights went away. went to the store and the two lights came on again. i immediately turned it back off and the lights went away again. i have read many people have lost control when the light came on and it makes me really nervous to drive the car now.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. the contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the electronic power steering warning light illuminated and the steering wheel very difficult to turn. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 39,000.
While driving on a 2 lane road, i suddenly lost power in my steering and as i was approaching a curve i nearly crashed into the car next to me. the steering light came on and steering the car was nearly impossible. i continued to drive and exited a the nearest exit and turned off the car. when i turned it off and on again the light on the dashboard vanished and the steering was back to normal. since then i haven't felt comfortable driving the vehicle. i called my local honda service department and they said that without the light on or the issue being apparent, there is nothing they can do. i am concern with this issue as it implies a serious safety issue. i have read some posts and this seems to be a problem with this year and model.
While driving on a local street i attempted to male a left when suddenly the vehicle lost power steering. i turned the vehicle off for a few minutes, turned it on and the steering responded. that same day when returning home i decided not to take the highway because of the steering problem. again, this time while driving in a straight line the vehicle lost steering. turning it off again for three minutes seemed to restore steering.
Takata recall. (long term exposure to high heat and humidity can cause these airbags to explode when deployed) my horn located in the steering wheel constantly blares when exposed to high heat while in motion on city streets and highways and stationary. this issue comes and goes and the dealership "honda world" located in downey, ca. refuses to inspect the issue. they tell me the probelm needs to occur for them to inspect the issue. since i bought the car in 05/2016 this issue only occures in the summer time not the winter which tells me it's being caused by heat. because the airbag is also located in the steering wheel this issue needs to be inspected asap. i have videos on my cell phone camera as proof.
First occasion it happened, the steering wheel jerked to the right, the steering wheel light did not come on.. (30 mph) second occasion it happened, the steering wheel jerked to the right, the steering wheel light did not come on. i was driving roughy 20 mph. third time it happened, i was driving 70 mph and almost hit the guy next to me. the steering wheel light did not come on the fourth time it happened, i was driving 40 mph and the steering wheel light did come on. i did not have power steering for about 30 miles. the fifth time it happened, i was driving about 80 mph and the light did not come on.
While driving my 2013 honda accord my steering wheel locked up twice after a dash light came on. this almost resulted in a crash both times i was able to stop. to get the wheel to unlock i had to turn the car off restart it and it would work properly agan. this is a v6 accord and has approx 38000 miles on it well maintained. please help this could cause serious injuries or death if locks up especially on the highway. this needs to be a recall. note that i was making left turns both times.
In about three weeks ago, when sometimes i turn the wheels i loose the power and the car restarted. it making me scary to drive the car. i went to the honda dealer in collage park, maryland with the recall letter for the eps system that i received and explained to them the problem that i am having, but i did not get any help. they said that there was an update on my system last year and that the problem is not caused by the eps system and i have to pay $130 for the diagnose.
There was total power steering failure while doing parallel parking twice in an hour today (5/30/2016). it too much effort to turn even a little. we were lucky we were not on highway or street. restarting the car seemed to resolve first failure. second failure corrected itself upon driving couple of feet. now, i am afraid to drive the car till this problem is fixed as it may result in crash.
In attempting parallel parking practice with son, experienced total power steering failure (multiple instances) when wheel was fully turned. vehicle was either stopped to turn wheel into parking spot, or moving very slow (under 2 mph).
I was on a road trip. my car started pulling to the left. then it became extremely hard to turn the wheel to the right. i pulled into a fast food parking lot, and when i turned loose of the wheel, it spun to the left. i continued to my destination with both hands tight on the wheel, scared to even change lanes. i had called ahead for an appointment with a wheel alignment shop. when i got there, they put the car on a hydraulic lift, up several feet in the air, turned the key on, and turned the steering wheel. the wheel and the tires were spinning to the left. they had no idea what was wrong. i called the local honda dealership. i was told there that they had no idea, and had to call honda. they determined the electronic power steering was faulty, and had to replace the power steering gear assembly. even though the car was out of warranty (i had 37,000 miles on it), honda paid for all but $182 of the cost. i was told it would have been a $2,100 repair.
While driving the vehicle on city streets, the power steering fails, making it very difficult to steer the vehicle and requires a great amount of effort to control the steering. a power steering message appears on the dashboard. after stopping the vehicle and shutting it down, then restarting it, seems to tentatively correct it.this has happened three times in three days. i am very concerned with our safety in driving this car!
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering box failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 38,000. the vin was not available.
While driving on a city street at 30 mph experienced loss of power steering and eps warning light simultaneously came on. turned vehicle off and restarted as manual instructed; warning light went out and power steering appeared ok. later the same day while driving on a city street at 30 mph the eps warning light came on and vehicle was once again very difficult to steer due to loss of power steering. the next day light was still on and power steering did not work. vehicle had to be repaired. dealer stated it needed a "software update" and they found a "loose pin fit at eps control unit".
The power steering failed at 62k miles with no earlier indications/warnings there was an issue. i could not move the steering wheel and had to have it towed at my expense to a honda dealer. fortunately, this occurred in my driveway without my children in the vehicle. the repair took one week (had to order parts, holiday, staffing shortage) and was covered under an extended warranty through honda due to a known issue at a cost of approximately $1,500. the purpose of this complaint is for awareness. 2013 honda accord owners should be aware of this potentially dangerous issue.
