Recently reported EXTERIOR LIGHTING problems on 2008 Honda Accord

Headlights blink out briefly while driving at night. this is a continuing problem not a singular incident. *tr

While driving at night time the headlights flicker 1 to 2 times per minute. if the a/c unit or heater/defroster are on it occurs 2 to 3 times per minute. twice while driving with the defroster and windshield wipers on. the headlights stayed dim for 2 to 3 seconds. i took the car to the honda dealer were i purchased it. they said they already had other vehicles with this problem and there was no fix. i returned one month later, the service manager gave me the honda 800# and told me to call honda motor corp. the answer i get there is no recall. *tr

I bought a brand new 2008 honda accord with a 4 cylinder engine. when the air conditioner kicks on and the headlights are on there is a noticeable and quick dimming almost flashing of the headlights and taillights. it is bright enough to seem as though i am flickering my head lights to the person in front of me on the highway and this is a serious safety hazard. i contacted honda both the dealership and a regional representative and was told this is "normal" and "within specs". i am not alone with this problem as i have found many others with the same problem and they were all told the same from honda representatives. i have owned over 50 cars in my lifetime and flickering lights, let alone on a brand new $27000 care should never be considered "normal." thank you for your time and i appreciate any feedback you would be able to provide. sincerely, john kalapodis *tr

About every minute or so the lights on my 2008 honda accord dim as i am driving down the road. it looks like i am flashing my lights. this happens when the fan kicks in, a/c or defrost is on. it is very distracting. *tr

2008 honda accord ex-l 4cyl auto. headlights dim whenever a/c cycles. cars at night sometimes think that i am flashing my lights at them. *tr

Purchased a 2008 honda accord june 29,2008. finally got a chance to drive the vehicle for a period of time with the headlight on last night and noticed that the headlights keep dimming momentarily as the a/c or fan cycles about every 20-30 seconds. two issues that i have is that honda is aware of the issues as every 2008 accord does the same thing. it is rather noticeable and very distracting not only to the driver but no doubt to other drivers that think i may be flashing my lights at them. *tr

I purchased a 2008 honda accord last week, and drove it at night for the first time today. when the a/c cycles on, the headlights dim momentarily causing a distraction every 20 seconds. this occurs at all speeds, and with low beams used only. oncoming cars are thinking that i am flashing them as well! *tr

On all 2008 accord ex-l 4 cylinder models, the exterior lights (most noticeable on headlights) momentarily dim (flicker) whenever the a/c compressor cycles on. this seems to be caused by the current draw of the two engine cooling fans. according to honda, this behavior is "normal" and is controlled by the eld (electronic load detector). in my opinion, this continual and noticeable change in headlight intensity is extremely distracting to me (as the driver). i have no idea how these flickers might be interpreted by oncoming traffic. i have owned many cars in the last 35 years and none has ever exhibited this extremely annoying and potentially dangerous characteristic. *tr

Headlights on the 2008 honda accord briefly dim/flicker every 18 seconds whenever the air conditioning is in use. *tr

Head and taillights dim every 20-30 seconds when a/c is running. this dimming mimics the flashing of your headlights that is the national signal to a semi truck driver that they have cleared your car and it's o.k .to proceed into your lane after passing you. this situation is an accident waiting to happen. it also could easily result in a road rage incident from a driver in front or behind you that thinks you are either flashing headlights or tapping the brakes. i have had the car back to the dealer twice for repair but they are not authorized to even attempt a fix as honda says that this is normal. i contacted honda corp in california and the case manager basically stated that this is normal and case closed. i have recently been told by service manager that honda is looking into the headlight issue and it has been put into extreme engineering(whatever that means). they said however that this is no guarantee that a fix will come. what is it going to take for you to put pressure on honda to fix this and to stop selling these cars until they fix this? does someone need to die first is that your criteria. your whole purpose is to serve and protect the public. please do what is right. *tr

Purchased new 2008 honda accord 4cyl. in june 2008. after a week i drove the vehicle at night and noticed that the headlights and tail light momentarily dim every 30 seconds or so. called the dealer and was told to bring the vehicle which i did. they ran diagnostic test and i was told every is functioning as designed. after doing a google search "honda headlight dimming" i came upon several forums that host a number of complaint from 2008 honda accord owners who have the same problem. your web site shows at least 76 complaint for the same issue. my concerns are this:1.) no other car has this feature design causing the headlights and tail lights to dim .2.) on coming traffic thinks that they are being flashed causing many to gesture....3.) cars in font think that they are being flashed w/ high beams. 4.) very distracting to the driver 5.) cars behind you think you are tapping the brakes. 5.) some one passing you may think that you have flashed them to come back into the lane prematurely. i could go on and on. this is very dangerous and not normal. please help. there have been successful lemon law suits filed against honda due to this issue. you are our government, your only purpose is to serve the people. please start an investigation into this potentially hazardous situation where a innocent driver is going to get hurt or killed by either another driver from road rage or a trucker that thought they were given the clear signal after passing to come back into the lane only to rub over a honda accord driver. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. whenever the contact is driving at any speed, the air conditioner activates and the headlights flash on and off and then dim. the dealer stated that there were no failures listed regarding the headlights. the current mileage was 5,200 and failure mileage was 5,000. update 09/10/08 *cw the consumer stated the headlights go dim when the air condition comes on. updated 09/17/08. *jb

2008 honda accord 4 cylinder ex-l w/navigation: while driving at night headlights flicker when the air conditioner is on. this occurs about every 15 seconds. the headlights become very dim and provide poor visibility and may also appear to other drivers that you are signaling them. it is a big distraction and makes the vehicle a safety hazard to drive at night while the air conditioner is engaged. the manufacturer does not readily offer a solution for this defect. *tr

I own a honda accord 2008 ex sedan with the 190hp v4 engine. the headlamps and tail lamps go dim when i accelerate the car and then decelerate -- not only annoying it happens so often that my night vision is disrupted -- the headlamps are marginal to begin with especially in wet conditions as they wash out. *tr

I have a 2008 honda accord ex-l. when driving with lights on both dim and bright lights flicker, like you are flashing them. it happens every 1 to 2 minutes especially when running the air conditioner. dealer nor honda has any solution. this is a distraction which could cause an accident. *tr

I just bought a 2008 honda accord 4cyl. the headlamps dim on and off every 20 seconds or so .it seems to dim when a/c compressor comes on. honda websites said this is "normal"? *tr

2008 honda accord 4 cylinder ex sedan. i just purchased the car new on 06/14/2008. when driving it for the first time at night, i noticed the headlamps dim and then return to full brightness in sync with the air conditioner compressor clutch engaging. the dimming occurs every 20 to 30 seconds when the air conditioner is on. it is very distracting and not typical of any of my previous cars. dealer does not have a solution to this problem. *tr

Bought a brand new 2008 honda accord ex-l sedan. headlights keep going dim when air conditioner kicks on. it is very annoying and other motor vehicles think i am flashing them. this occurs at least once every 2-3 minutes. i have read numerous complaints in chat forums regarding this issue that is affecting other drivers of the same year, make, and model. *tr

New car less than 1000 miles on it the headlights flicker about every 15/30 seconds with the ac on/off every night. honda says nothing is wrong and won't do anything. *tr

2008 honda accord ex-l navi 4 cylinder. while driving at night with climate control on, as the a/c compressor cycles on, the headlights and all other lights dim noticeably. honda dealer has stated this is "normal" for hondas, although my previous 2007 accord ex-l 4 cylinder did not exhibit this "feature". it is a safety issue and a defect with the automobile. other drivers notice this "dimming" and assume you are flashing your headlights at them. *tr

I purchased a 2008 accord ex-l with the 4 cylinder engine in june of 2008. the headlights on this vehicle flicker or dim at night as ac or other fans cycle on & off. this is very distracting for me & must be for the other drivers that meet me on the road. i took it to the dealership twice in the past year and was told this is a normal characteristic caused by the electrical load detector (eld) system. they are not able or not willing to fix the problem. this could be a serious safely hazard. i wonder whether it is safe to drive a car that dims its headlights constantly. i do not understand why this cannot be resolved, and why honda does not consider this a major problem. should honda be allowed to decide the dimming problem is normal? the other night on the way home i had someone pull off the road to let me pass, i can only assume it was because of my dimming lights. these lights are not safe and honda needs to fix this problem. *tr

Headlights dim as air conditioning compressor cycles off and on. i have owned over 30 cars in my lifetime and this is the first time i have seen this. apparently honda claims this is "normal". it is distracting to the driver and to oncoming cars. i have the 2008 lx-p model - 4 cylinder. *tr

2008 honda accord headlight dims while driving down the road every minute or less. other cars think you are flashing them with high beams. this problem occurs when the headlight are on with the ac on at the same time. *tr

The headlights flicker every 20-30 seconds, high and low beam. very distracting. *tr

Headlights flicker each time ac compressor comes on. vehicle is a 2008 honda accord lx-p (4cyl). really annoying and could be a safety issue. other vehicles flash their lights at me. *tr

Re: 2008 honda accord coupe 4 cylinder low-beam headlights only project about 30-40 feet. according to dealer they are adjusted properly. possibly they are just too dim. it is very difficult to drive on the country roads that i travel that have no street lights, unless i use the high beams. *tr

2008 accord headlights flicker. *tr

I bought a 2008 honda accord approximately four weeks ago, when driving the car (with a/c on) the exterior lights flicker approximately every 15-30 minutes. the dealership has not provided a solution. lights flickering is an unsafe and unacceptable condition. other drivers do not know the flickering lights are not an act of aggression, nor is it safe for driver's to be exposed to continuous flickering lights. there are extensive postings on the internet regarding this problem. i would implore this agency to protect the safety of the public by researching this highly documented safety issue and requiring honda to fix this faulty design. *tr

Blinking headlights on my 2008 accord, with the air conditioner running at night each time the compressor cycles on (about every 30 seconds) the headlights blink. honda states this is normal, i say it is abnormal and distracting. this is a design flaw that surely needs to be corrected. there are thousands of complaints on the internet about this. it breaks a drivers concentration and is frustrating. *tr

Headlights dim noticeably, even at highway speeds, when fan or compressor kick on. honda refuses to fix problem and calls it normal for the accord! *tr

We purchased a 2008 honda accord ex-l in april of 2008. when driving at night the lights dim when the a/c fan kicks on. i feel it is a dangerous distraction to the driver and other vehicles. other vehicles feel that i am turning on my bright lights and fear for safety of myself and family to another aggressive driver. the dealership and honda will not do anything about this and said the vehicle is acting normal. i would like to see something done with this. *tr

Just bought my 08 accord lx sedan 4 cyl 2 months ago, after 2 days, i noticed that the headlights start flickering every 20 - 30 sec aprox. i went to the "classic honda" dealer 2 times, they said "its normal". this is a safety issue, because it is distracting. also, other drivers think that i am flashing my lights at them. *tr

Headlights dim when ac kicks on and off. they dim for a about 1 sec. *tr

My 2008 honda accord ex-l lights flicker or dim at night when all equip. or ac is on very distracting for me must be for the other drivers that meet me on the road have been to dealer twice for this problem and they say it is normal i have an 2007 accord that dose not have this problem also have a 2003 acura tls that does not or have i ever had this problem in the 50 years i have been owning cars. what to do next?? *tr

I have a 2008 honda accord, 4-cyl. headlights appear to "flicker." i have seen other complaints of this problem, but they appear to be to a much greater degree than my problem. however, this problem could get worse and could cause an accident, i.e., another driver could interpret the headlight flicker as permission to pull out in traffic and cause a collision. *tr

Each time the air conditioner kicks in, the headlights dim dramatically. it happens every time the air conditioner compressor turns on. *tr

I own a new 2008 honda accord ex-l 4cyl. whenever the headlights are on they have a very distracting characteristic of dimming momentarily and then returning to normal about every 15 - 20 seconds. it does not seem to matter what accessories are on or off. i was told by the honda dealership that they have heard of the problem but there is no fix at this time. *tr

Car idles high and eratic since a new alternator was put on due to light(in and out) flickering along with fan and radio cutting out when a/c unit is used and cooling fans kick on and off.since then car idles high, surges went fron tacking 1100 cold to 1500. went from warm idle at 600 and is now 8-900rpms.lights still do the same thing but they agree there was a voltage drop after two dealers said it was acharcteristic.after two month the cars going back in for a second seat track and a syl plate that was damaged.now along with a list of problems the front bumper is pealing in same spot on left and right side near headlights.i alreadt complained about the bumpers not fitting.dealer did idle relearn procedeure that did nothing.check fuel cap message comes on and check engine light was on.they claim after 20 years of driving and 4 hondas,i don't know how to put a gas cap on.worst car i ever had.the worst part is the attitude of the dealers and honda.i have been waiting for over two months for a rep,las time dealer snuck a note in that i refused to see the rep.i faxed them a demand letter to see the rep and another dealer was also supposed to set a meeting up.they claim he is out with a bad back(philadelphia area rep,)i am suing honda under the lemon law.i had enough.the suit was filed and my court date is in october, contact me with any questions or comments.car alo smell like a rotten egg. *tr

Voltage drop when a/c compressor turns on, resulting in headlights and taillights dimming/flickering. *tr

I own a 2008 honda accord excel 4 cylinder. with the climate control on the headlights flicker. i have talked with many people and they all say this is not normal. *tr

All outside lights flicker whenever the air conditioner cycles on. this is a very visible flicker and i would consider a safety hazard. honda has been notified and says its a normal condition. driving the car at night has become extremely distracting. *tr

Ongoing isuues with electircal system, lights flickering, accessories going in and out, seat uhpulstry and paint and seat frame. had into another dealer and they said bad paint ,bad fabric and flickering lights are chacteristics of the 2008 honda accords.service manager varified all problems and then i get a call later to pick up car because they tried to fix the seat and couldnt so they ordered another seat frame.i picked the car up next day with fraudulent paperwork, wrong dates and mialege.i was wondering why seatbelt did not feal tight.i get home and see that when they took seat out to try and fix, mechanic did not install seat belt back on the frame and he distryed the syl plate taking seat in and out and now the bolt cover is also missing.dealer picked up car from and brought it back.did not send car back with paperwork or even an apolagy.they claim they ordered replacement parts to fix what they damaged.please email me and i will let you know anything youd like.honda was no help. fourth time honda owner and last! hondas quality and attitude is so poor, i am going back to american cars. *tr

Exterior and interior lights flicker when the air conditioning compressor comes on. baytown honda service dept, baytown tx, stated this is normal and intended to do that. first they said they weren't aware of the problem, then they produced a service bulletin on the 2008 accord that advised honda is aware of the problem. baytown honda stated nothing could be done because honda said there is no problem with flickering lights. the flickering lights are a distraction to the driver and other drivers. *tr

When the a/c is on, the headlights noticeably dim every time the compressor kicks on. this happens about every 30 seconds or so why the a/c and headlights are both on. i feel that this is a safety issue especially when driving at night to have the headlights noticeably dim is a safety concern and nhtsa should really consider a recall/repair of this item before someone really gets hurt. *tr

Headlights, taillights, interior lights, radio fan motor all fade in and out when cooling fan comes on. this was in the shop for this today along with pealing paint, bad seat track, bad upholstery and damage that sloane honda did to my car in philadelphia, pa. someone is going to get killed in these new 08 accords. honda doesn't care. murry cohen service manager at sloane threw me out of the service department, threatened to call the police and refused to give paperwork showing the car was there, but i have the rental agreement they signed for the day. they say all hondas lights go in and out, this is my 4th and this is the only one that does it. honda customer service is no help. don't waste your breath calling. my email is if you have similar problems. i will complain to this site every day and you all should too. 24590 + tax and tags down the drain. i am getting a lemon lawyer and hope you all do to. *tr

08 accord ex-l; headlights dim while driving at night every 15 to 20 seconds. safety issue for driver and other vehicles. *tr

2008 honda accord 4 cylinder headlights consistently dim and brighten with the a/c on. this is not a minor change in illumination. it looks like you are lowering or dimming your lights and then immediately brightening them. this causes a misconception by others of an intent to pass or to ask them to dim lights if they are coming toward me. honda dealership is saying this is normal. i have never had a vehicle do this before. i have been driving for 35 years and owned numerous vehicles. this cannot be misconstrued as "average" cycling of the electrical system. the variation of the illumination and the occurrence rate is absurdly out of proportion. *tr

The headlights on my 2008 honda accord lx 4-cyl are very dim compared to other vehicles on the market. they pose a safety hazard for me as well for other drivers and pedestrians. in two different incidents the headlights almost lead to a severe accident. i would like honda to fix the problem by moving the headlights up which would provide a better view of the road. *tr

The 2008 honda accord ex-l nav 4 cylinder suffers from poor headlight performance. while driving at night, the headlight intensity frequently fluctuates causing distraction and reducing nighttime visibility. *tr my interpretation of the local honda dealership diagnosis is provided below. poor headlight performance is 'normal' due to the operation of the electrical load detector (eld). the function of the eld is to provide electrical system demand information to the onboard computer module. the onboard computer then uses the provided information to adjust alternator output which ultimately results in fuel savings. honda is assuming that customers are willing to sacrifice normal headlight performance for the possibility of increasing fuel mileage. the operational design of one system produces a side affect in another system that results in a safety risk. risks of operating a vehicle with poor headlight performance are provided below. 1. reduced visibility and driving concentration could result in a collision. 2. other drivers could mistake a headlight intensity fluctuation as aggressive driving behavior resulting in driver confrontation. *tr

08 honda accord headlights dim while driving. when ever the car shifts up or down as well as randomly and while driving at a constant speed. *tr
