Recently reported STEERING problems on 2013 Ford Fusion

Randomly receiving power steering assist fault and steering/car pulls to side sometimes when going over bumps.

2013 ford fusion. i was driving downhill on freeway when power steering just stiffened up . i manage to get off at next exit . after i parked, shut off, then restarted vehicle the warning light came on. i had it checked by mechanic and they said the steering gear needs to be replaced 2500.00 this problem is exactly what the current recall is for but they said my vin # has not been recalled. when are they going to include the vin#'s that are actually affected by this problem they are recalling. my car matches the exact information of the vehicles they are recalling.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, that there was an abnormal noise coming from the steering rack. the vehicle was taken to jack demmer ford, inc.37300 michigan ave, wayne, mi 48184 where it was diagnosed that the whole steering rack needed to be replaced due to the electric steering rack motor. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not subjected to any recalls. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 15v250000 (steering), 13v232000 (steering), nor 19v632000 (steering). the approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

While turning onto my street, to go home, the steering wheel locked up and a message popped up saying steering power assist fault.

The steering wheel is getting stuck it feelslike which made me rin off road i also had to cut seat belt on back seat cause it wouldnt raise up. also fuel pump is going out and this is not right.

The power steering system went out due to a manufacturer defect in the rack and pinon electrical board. this was not due to wear and tear on the car, but instead due to poor manufacturing of the part. the rack and pinon electric board should never fail, and is very dangerous. the power steering system went out twice, once while driving on the road during a snowstorm and another while parked in the driveway. very unsafe to have this happen while driving as the steering wheel is impossible to turn.

My 2013 ford fusion power steering failed, get power assist failure message as well as lane assist failure message very dangerous

My 2013 ford fusion has an epas steering system. girlfriends took the car to wisconsin over the weekend before the blizzard and noticed the steering got a little tight. next day after an oil change was done and the vehicle was back in her parents driveway she went outside to go pick up our daughter and the power steering completely went out. she was not driving at the time of the incident but there were no warning of power steering not working when this happened. vehicle became very hard to steer and she was not comfortable driving it home. 4.5 hours away. i left saturday night at 9pm and got to wisconsin around 1-2am switched out vehicles with her and drove my ford back to fargo returning at 9:45am sunday morning. two warning lights are on about the power steering system and along the drive i noticed that its not just hard to steer the vehicle but it also likes to steer itself a little left and right at random times.

Power steering gave out. i was driving in a rural area and the car became extremely hard to turn, and upon starting the vehicle, very very tight steering wheel

I was driving on a busy street and the power steering quit working while maneuvering around some other driver, and i almost got into an accident. it is very hard to steer now, i have checked the fuses and heard that ford's power steering assist is notorious for failing.

Constantly getting a message on dash "power steering assist fault". occasionally a message about transmission comes up but too quick to read. see that ford has done a recall on both of these items but haven't actually issued it yet. my vin is not showing as one affected despite getting these messages. i am hearing some sort of noise that we can not identify and worry it is something with either one of these issues. hard to describe the noise but replaced brakes and rotors thinking it could be that but the noise is still there. worried this could cause a accident. not sure why ford does a recall but doesn't send it out when it is a known problem. usually hear the noise while slowing. message on dash is random but always while vehicle is in motion. doesn't stay on long and happens at least 1-2 a week. started back in december 2019

Steering assist fault service required i have a 2013 ford fusion and this light came on. i have lost any and all power to my steering. i can still drive it, but it is very hard to turn the wheel in any direction unless i give it gas. i called ford to see if this was under warranty, but they told me that they needed to look at it before they can tell if there were any recalls. they also charged me $150 and then proceeded to tell me that it needed $4396. half of that amount was to replace the rack & pinion. they never even told me if there were other recalls. after doing extensive research on the internet, i have seen many complaints about the "steering assist fault". i am 20 years old and i am in the navy stationed in norfolk, va. i bought the car in michigan so it has seen winters and salt from the roads. is the ford dealership that i took my car to trying to get out of taking care of the recall? i called my mother in laws mechanic and he told me that he could get all the parts for me himself for less then $800. but i have a $4300 bill?? i am on military pay, i don't have that kind of money!

The power steering light was coming on and then going off within seconds on the evening of 11-15-19 and the morning of 11-16-19 we get in the car to start our day and the steering wheel is completely locked up. we had the car towed to the dealership and was told that the steering gear has failed and needs to be completely replaced. i authorized the work to be done and it was completed on 11-19-19 but my problem is there is a recall on this issue in all states that get snow and ice because the problem is caused by the salt used to treat the roads but for some reason the state of virginia is not listed. we have also seen this light flash on and back off this morning 11-29-19 and this is after we have paid $2133.48 for the repair of this problem, so the replacement was done wrong or the parts are not good this is a very scary situation at anytime but more so now that we are going into the winter season.

Steerin failed: when driving streering when out no power steering cost to replace rack and pioion $3100.00. this car is very unsafe with this problem my son was lucky he was going slow when this happened.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. the contact stated that the steering wheel failed to move and the "power assist fault" message was displayed. the contact called hardy family ford (1255 marietta hwy, dallas, ga 30157, (770) 445-8891) and informed them of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was called and referred the contact to the local dealer and nhtsa. the failure mileage was 101,000.

While driving a warning message came up on the dashboard saying steering fault service now. the steering seemed fine for a few miles driving at 70 mph on the highway, but as i slowed down and got closer to home, the steering power deteriorated. as i was turning into my driveway it almost feels like the steering wheel is completely locked. the error message on the dash now says "steering loss stop safety". upon calling ford and checking the vin # at nhtsa is looks like this is not part of an active recall, however cars exactly like mine are part of recall 19s26. i am not sure why my car is not part of it as it matches the make, model and year purchased and i live in pittsburgh pa where we use salt to treat icy/snowy roads. why isnt my vin part of the recall?

Service advance trac, traction control, abs, and steering assist fault lights all come on randomly and it becomes extremely hard to steer. when this is going on, the lane keeping system does not work and the turn signal needs shut off after every turn. having no power steering and trying to turn off your turn signal while driving is extremely dangerous. these lights randomly come on and go back off. i live in pa, if this problem happens in snow i have to pull over and wait for the steering to be back to normal or risk my life getting home. ford has not included my vin in a recall that could be the cause of the issues. i have taken my car to the dealership 5 times now for this same problem.

Parked my vehicle today and it was perfectly fine. when i came back out a couple hours later i started it and immediately i got two warning messages on my car stating two of my assisted features were not available and my power steering was completely gone. started doing research into this issue by calling my local ford dealership to see if they could get me in and they said they couldnt today and to call back the next day and try then. started looking online in other forums and research into recalls and noticed a recall has been put out for power steering malfunctioning but my vehicle wasnt listed in the recall by vin number. but year make and model all matched. called my dealership again and they said since my vin doesnt match on the recall list they wont look at it that way. drove my vehicle home with no power steering and ran a couple tests myself, i found out my power steering is electronic. hooking up my diagnostic computer and no codes were found. unhooked my battery for a little bit to try and reset the warnings that were on and that didn't help, i did a check on my vehicle to make sure all of the basics were good, tire pressure, fuses, anything else that could be potentially wrong and everything else checks out. no other warnings are on in my vehicle other than the two about my assisted steering and i cant recall the second one.

I am writing today to share with you an issue we are having with our 2013 ford fusion. we were driving down the road during the rain. when the power steering abruptly failed. luckily, we did not have an accident. this is the second time this has happened to me. the first time was 7 months ago and we had to replace the rack and pinion both times. there obiviously is a problem with them and i feel something should be done before somone is seriously hurt because of this issue. after doing some research i found that there was a recall on 2012 fusions for the steering rack, but our vehicle was not included in the recall even though it was built at the same plant, during the same time period, as the recall originated from in hermosillo mexico. i sure hope something can be done to stop everyone from having this problem.

While driving at 70mph on a crowded highway, the electronic power steering went out on my 2013 ford fusion with the error message of "steering loss stop safely", there was no early warning. the message was freighting as i was then afraid to turn the wheel as it said steering loss, not "power steering loss". i pulled over and figured it was power steering and nursed it to a safe place. if i had been turning into a crowded intersection i would have wrecked. according to the diagnosis i need to replace the entire electronic rack and pinion assembly. this was a similar issue with nhtsa campaign number: 15v340000 for the 2012 ford fusion. i contacted ford and they said its not the same issue.

Car lost power steering after driving in rain. there are recalls for power steering on this model year, but dealer tells me mine isn't part of it. recall needs to be expanded

I called ford before and the guy on the phone said that the recall was vin specific and my vin had not been included. although, the same issues they are saying is happening is happening with my car right now. i put it in park it drives, i do use my emergency brake at all times now, i put it in reverse it goes forward, i put it in neutral it reverses; if there were an emergency currently i am not able to hit the gas and reverse and the brakes seem to shudder when stopping. i have had to finagle my way since this started happening until it's my turn to get my car serviced by ford for a recall. and this will be the second appointment since it was repaired for recalls earlier on in the year.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. while driving 35 mph, the power steering assist indicator illuminated and the contact lost control of the steering wheel. the vehicle came to a stop when the front passenger rim struck a curb. the contact was able to drive the vehicle home. the manufacturer advised that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v250000 (steering). the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 59,106.

While i started reversing towards my driveway entrance my vehicle got completely paralyzed as i changed gears from drive to reverse, my steering wheel, brakes and shift gear stoped responding, i managed to carefully move my car to a safety location but i was in a dangerous situation when i had to let my car slide down the road of my house in order to let the traffic (i had unintentionally caused) carry on. i then, put my cars emergency brake on and called my mechanic. luckily for me, this all happen infront of my house, actually, after the 2 hour drive i had finished coming from, my concerns are what if this incident would have happen outside of my town, or in the highway, my safety and even my own life was on the line for a few minutes, i can only be lucky for so long. a couple days after, i came to find out i did not have one recall incomplete but 3!, even more shocking, i did not receive notices for any of the 3 recalls from my cars dealership. i went to them immediately and now am waiting for them to call me back to schedule an appointment i been trying to make already for the past week but till today, i have yet not received a date.

Steering wheel bolt has come loose and started to shake

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. while driving 35 mph and turning right, "power steering assist fail" appeared on the instrument panel and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. the contact was able to drive safely to germain ford of columbus (located at 7250 sawmill rd, columbus, oh 43235, (614) 356-9743). the dealer stated that the failure was associated with nhtsa campaign number: 15v250000 (steering). the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 67,414. the vin was invalid.

On a wet, rainy day, i lost power steering assist completely, luckily at about 20 miles per hour. days later, a bolt had to be replaced which they did free of charge. the power steering cost me $1730.50.there are recalls on this for other 2013 fusions. why not mine?

Car lost power steering completely without warning making the car almost impossible to steer and control. car was in motion on a busy city street at the time it happened.

The vehicle loses power steering upon start up. three warnings come up: : steering assist fault, service advance track, and hill assist. this is an intermittent, but consistent problem which increases in frequency and duration, lasting as much as 20 miles at a time. the vehicle has been to the dealer multiple times over more than 2 years without a successful diagnosis and repair.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. while driving 5 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn and the power assist error warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to autonation ford union city (located at 4355 jonesboro rd, union city, ga 30291) where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 61,865.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 15v250000 (steering) three years ago; however, the vehicle was experiencing a failure. while driving 30 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. the contact was able to drive to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering gear motor bolts needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact called drum hill ford (located at 1212 westford st, lowell, ma 01851, (978) 452-3900) and the manufacturer to notify them of the failure. the failure mileage was 89,000.

Power steering failure message lit up on dash while traveling down the road at approx 40 mph. power steering seemed fine. after parking the car and leaving it several hours, started the car and message came back and car had no power steering assist. i was lucky that i was not traveling down he road when failure occurred.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. while driving 60 mph, the steering failed. the contact had to use force to steer the vehicle and the power assist warning indicator illuminated. airport ford (8001 burlington pike, florence, ky 41042, (859) 371-4750) diagnosed and repaired the steering bolts. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

Power steering stopped working. there are numerous recalls for this but apparently not on this vin because it is a 8/2012 build. but it is the same problem they have with over 400,000 other fusions. we were turning around in a parking lot when the steering suddenly became very difficult. the light to check power steering had been on for 5 minutes prior to the failure.

Have not brough to dealer yet, however all my lights lit up and have not turned of so far. advancetrac, blindspot, rear camera assist, abs, etc.. basically all my assist have come on. since they have come on my steering has been tough, as if the electrical assist was disabled because its combined with the abs system. according to a youtube video posted online, the problem is a corroded or malfunctioning wire in the abs driver (or passenger?) side of the wheel well. "issue was my driver front tire... it's the wire harness that goes back to the cpu from the abs speed sensor. this should be a recall in my opinion as a lot of people are having this issue which causes electrical power steering assist to turn off making it harder to turn the steering wheel" quoted from the youtube video. where the wires connect or something along that line. it would be really appreciated if ford looked into this and made a recall. this is not safe considering it disables some (or all) of your steering capabilities. more detail: all lights have lit up before during the first snow-fall (but shortly after turned off). i purchased the car with 70,000 miles on it, in july of 18'. it is now march of 19' and we've had warm days up until today, when we had snow again here in central new york. now the problem arises again. please recall this issue.

Takata recall when i turn on my car the warning message said "power steering service now." when i try to get out of the parking lot of the store. had to call a tow to get it to a shop. since ford was all booked up and dont have an opening till 3-4 weeks later so i took it to a shop that would take a look at it the next day. the shop told me that my rack and pinion was not working. they said was the car in any accident or went into any potholes i told them no. because i mainly drive on the highway which has no potholes. the shop told me to get a new rack and pinion it would cost me $1000 or get a rebuilt one for $600. so i went for the cheaper option because i don't have that kind of money for a new one. right now i'm just waiting for the car to be fixed. the car only has 68000+ miles and its already breaking down. if the car of that year has a recall get the recall for all of the cars of that year not just some.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. the contact stated that the "steering fault service now" message displayed and the steering wheel became extremely difficult to maneuver while driving around a roundabout. also, the "steering stop" indicator flashed while driving. an independent mechanic diagnosed that the steering gear needed to be replaced. greg hubler ford (2001 e mcgalliard rd, muncie, in 47303, muncie in 47303, 1-(888) 711-6349) was notified. the vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 13v232000 (steering), although the vehicle exhibited the same failure. the manufacturer refused to provide a remedy. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

Loss of driver steering assist. steering became stiff. vehicle was parked.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. while driving 20 mph, the steering wheel seized and failed to turn. the failure was intermittent. also, the transmission slipped and seized before going into gear. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the contact's home. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 180,000.

My car has been skipping and hesitation with power train or transmission while driving whenever it wants. it’s nothing specific to make that happen. last week back power windows quit working. now....started car in drive, steering was locked. drove back and forth, tried different gears, tried restarting, it finally started by turning key over. came home, parked in driveway, can’t get steering to unlock at all now! i am over an hour away from home, so whenever it decides to turn, i can head home. but after reading these reviews, do i dare? does ford want us owners to die, or the innocent we may hit? either way i would sue because they cannot deny knowing there’s a problem!

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. when the vehicle was started, the steering ability seized and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was driven to byers ford (1101 columbus pike, delaware, oh 43015) where it was diagnosed that the electric power steering failed and needed replacement. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 62,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. the contact stated that after starting the vehicle the message 'steering assist failure' had displayed and the steering wheel was difficult to turn in either direction. the cause of the failure was not yet determined. the manufacturer and local dealer were not notified. the failure mileage was 43,000.

I bought my 2013 ford fusion brand new. i only have 70,000 miles on the car and zero accidents. i drove my car to the gym on a saturday morning and made it home no problem. when i went out to my car the following day the dash lit up with notices of "hill start assist not available" service advancetrac and power steering assist fault" the wheel would not turn and was undriveable in my driveway. i have found countless other incidence of this issue with the same vehicle yet it hasn't been recalled and it's an extremely expensive fix. in the five year of owning this vehicle it's had nothing but problems.

When in reverse while moving the steering wheel went into locked position and brake pedal could not be applied (in driveway) restarted vehicle in hopes of a reset only this time when put in reverse warning light came on and said transmission was in park not able to move previously car overheated in 96 feet from a cold start (driveway) also 3 other times had a power assist failure (highway in motion) the vehicle has been in the dealership for each issue and they have found nothing

Loss of power steering assist during driving causing the car to only have a few degrees of unassisted steering available.happened on the highway, but was able to pull off and get a tow. this has been an issue with this model and year car, but for some reason the vin did not fall under the recall. complete steering unit requires replacing at cost of $2700.00. over 500 accidents have been reported for this exact issue. 56,000 miles approx

The rack and pinion on my 2013 ford fusion has gone out with 53,000 miles on my car through no user fault. i first noticed the noises when turning the car on and pulling out of a parking spot. without warning the stearing started making grinding noises (like what a car makes when the power stearing is going out) and would the wheel would periodically catch (this is within two days of the noises starting) when i would turn. other than these symptoms there are no other signs of steering failure. i could have been driving down the road and locked up without notice. ford had a recall on the rack and pinion on my model, but when the dealership ran my vin, it is not included in the recall as the parts must have manufactured at another factor. considering the low mileage on my car and maintence routinely performed this is unacceptable. through research i have seen this happen on multiple ford fusions on 2011+. thankfully mine did not fail while on the road like others. this is a safety issue and ford needs to make this right. a mechanic was thankfully able to locate the issue before i got into a serious accident due to steering failure.

Steering all of a sudden became super stiff, many warning lights lite. almost caused crash into parked car, lucky was at slow speed 10 mph. note other recalls for same issue ford said this vin is not covered but issues are the same as others in the recall. car is at dealership to be fixed root cause rack & pinon assembly replacement. ref: https://www.edmunds.com/car-news/2013-ford-fusion-recalled-for-steering-gear-problem.html

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. while driving 30 mph, the steering wheel seized. on another occasion, the steering wheel seized after the engine was turned off and restarted at a fuel station. the power steering warning indicator illuminated. the contact's spouse drove the vehicle home. the vehicle was taken to town and country ford (5401 e independence blvd, charlotte, nc 28212, (704) 557-0596) to be diagnosed. the diagnostic results were unknown. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 45,500.

My power steering assist fault flashes and ford tells me there is nothing wrong. i saw a recall for the electric power steering due to salt corrosion on the 2013 but they are telling me mine wasn't one of them. why isn't my vehicle on the recall list since i live in new jersey with harsh winters. this seems unfair since it seems to be the same problem as the recall. time is of the essence before someone dies in a crash due to loss of steering which us a widespread problem this this year and make. please help!!! the message flashes across the screen a couple of minutes after starting car then disappears and everything seems fine?? there is 76,000 miles on the car. this car has been in the repair shop 17 times in 4 years so i am desperate and need answers. thank u for ur time!!!

Driving power steering light came on and lost all steering in the vehicle . had to over power the wheel in order to get to a safe spot.we were in the city driving.
