We have classified the 108 complaints from 2013 Ford Fusion about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
My 2013 ford fusion power steering failed, get power assist failure message as well as lane assist failure message very dangerous
Power steering gave out. i was driving in a rural area and the car became extremely hard to turn, and upon starting the vehicle, very very tight steering wheel
Constantly getting a message on dash "power steering assist fault". occasionally a message about transmission comes up but too quick to read. see that ford has done a recall on both of these items but haven't actually issued it yet. my vin is not showing as one affected despite getting these messages. i am hearing some sort of noise that we can not identify and worry it is something with either one of these issues. hard to describe the noise but replaced brakes and rotors thinking it could be that but the noise is still there. worried this could cause a accident. not sure why ford does a recall but doesn't send it out when it is a known problem. usually hear the noise while slowing. message on dash is random but always while vehicle is in motion. doesn't stay on long and happens at least 1-2 a week. started back in december 2019
Recently, i have been having issues with my electrical system/acceleration. i have a hard time getting my max a/c light to stay on and sometimes my radio display is delayed of coming on. also, sometimes when i start my car, the dinging sounds distorted like my battery is about to die and i have a hard time starting the car. i started to think my battery was going bad but then one day i was driving down the road (in motion), my car was still running and no warning lights displayed, but i lost all acceleration. i had to limp my car to the nearest parking lot as i could not get any gas power. i turned my car off and immediately turned it back on and it worked just fine. then a couple weeks later it did the same thing. i again had to shut it off, restart, and it worked fine. i have not had that issue since then but it is still worrisome. luckily i was not put in danger especially since my 6 yo son was with me. i would hate to think of the outcome if this happened on the interstate or somewhere when i could not easily pull over to the side of the road. is there a recall on this?
Frequently, when driving and the car has to idle- in traffic, at stop lights, etc.- the engine will stutter and shut off. this will happen repeatedly until the engine is driven at an increased speed.
I was driving about 45 mph and the driver side door opened on it's own and i can not get it to shut now. when the door opened i grabbed for it and it swung back and smacked my arm and hand and they are swollen bruised and sore. the door ajar indicator light up and the dinging started to alert me the door was open. went to a near by ford dealership and they informed me that my vehicle was not listed on the recall. this has been an ongoing issue with the whole electrical system not functioning properly. one evening i put my car in drive to leave a parking garage and it would go in reverse while in drive (reverse camera is on the whole time) and when i put it in drive it would drive in reverse. i had to drive home with my gear in reverse just so i could drive forward.*dt *tp
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. while driving in inclement weather, the climate control and windshield defroster became inoperable. the failure also caused the windows to become inoperable. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. gengras ford (225 new britain ave, plainville, ct 06062, (860)793-8885) was contacted via phone and informed of the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 38,000.
Initial ignition of the car results in engine stall out post abnormal ignition time. fusion will display "power run active" then "press brake to start". this will repeat after another ignition attempt and re-show the same messages on the dashboard. after a third ignition attempt the engine does not stall out. the problem is not a sudden onset but initial symptoms of the issue is that the car will stall out after 10 seconds of driving. initial re-ignition post stall results in normal function of the car without extra issue. however, this event becomes increasingly common over time until it simply stalls out immediately post ignition. despite multiple trips to a ford certified professional mechanic, no codes are given by the computer which renders diagnosis of the faulty part or cause of the issue near impossible. problem may present itself as faulty alternator, battery, or starter. however, even after replacement of any possibly faulty aforementioned parts the problem still persists.
Left front headlight no longer has power. checked headlight assembly for power continuity. problem seems to be in wiring to headlight assembly or from from fuse box. not sure exactly when it failed but replacement of lamp lead to further diagnostic since lamp worked when placed in right front.
Lost complete power and control of car no acceleration when pressing gas in the middle of street car slows down without no warning after parking the car a wreck indicator flash. this is the 2nd time it's hit down on me i had it repaid last year and it's happening again my life is at risk with this car shutting off on its own it's not fair that i'm being held responsible to pay for this faulty death trap vehicle. i couldn't drive my car in the middle of the road
My driver door is not locking .. do to the door latch recall .. i have not yet got a recall on it .. my door will open while driving..
My vehicle had a recall on it in 2016 for the door latches not working. the latches were supposedly all replaced at the dealership after the recall. in september of 2018,i opened my back door and tried to close it and it would not latch again. i had to rope my door shut to get it to the dealership and the supposedly put another latch on that door. on friday march 29 i was driving home from work and my driver side door unlatched on its own again. i tried to shut it as i was driving and had to stop on the side of the highway. i took it to the nearest ford dealership to me and they told me i would have to pay full price for the recall. the dealership i got the car at is too far so i called them to have it towed there but they would not honor the recall. on the morning of april 1 i spoke with ford customer care and that there is nothing that they can do. my car is undriveable and ford will not help with the problem. ford expects me to pay $600 every 6 months when their recalled parts stopped working or not drive my car at all. my door flung open while i was on the road and that is extremely dangerous as i could have fallen out or hit someone and caused a wreck.i believe it is very dangerous to drive my car in its current condition. my door has to be roped shut so that no one will try to steal my car or something out of my car. the door will not even stay closed due to the wind. the recall may have been done but the problem still remains.
Have not brough to dealer yet, however all my lights lit up and have not turned of so far. advancetrac, blindspot, rear camera assist, abs, etc.. basically all my assist have come on. since they have come on my steering has been tough, as if the electrical assist was disabled because its combined with the abs system. according to a youtube video posted online, the problem is a corroded or malfunctioning wire in the abs driver (or passenger?) side of the wheel well. "issue was my driver front tire... it's the wire harness that goes back to the cpu from the abs speed sensor. this should be a recall in my opinion as a lot of people are having this issue which causes electrical power steering assist to turn off making it harder to turn the steering wheel" quoted from the youtube video. where the wires connect or something along that line. it would be really appreciated if ford looked into this and made a recall. this is not safe considering it disables some (or all) of your steering capabilities. more detail: all lights have lit up before during the first snow-fall (but shortly after turned off). i purchased the car with 70,000 miles on it, in july of 18'. it is now march of 19' and we've had warm days up until today, when we had snow again here in central new york. now the problem arises again. please recall this issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. while driving, the vehicle jerked. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was an electrical failure and the transmission needed to be reset. in addition, the front lower control arms on both sides of the vehicle detached. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 124,973.
My car has been skipping and hesitation with power train or transmission while driving whenever it wants. it’s nothing specific to make that happen. last week back power windows quit working. now....started car in drive, steering was locked. drove back and forth, tried different gears, tried restarting, it finally started by turning key over. came home, parked in driveway, can’t get steering to unlock at all now! i am over an hour away from home, so whenever it decides to turn, i can head home. but after reading these reviews, do i dare? does ford want us owners to die, or the innocent we may hit? either way i would sue because they cannot deny knowing there’s a problem!
I was driving down the street. my car had no signs of trouble. suddenly smoke started coming from the heat vents on the dash. i was able to pull into a parking lot and get out of the vehicle. at this time i saw flames coming out from under the hood. i called 911. by the time of arrival of the fire dept the car was fully involved in flames.
The vehicle has an electrical glitch and when attempting to park the car it will show as park but will actually slip into neutral and roll forward or back if in a slight hill. also an manufacturing error is causing the car to abruptly stop while on driving. the rpms will increase by itself and then suddenly fall to 0 and the car will not be able to move. all the electrical components will still be on i.e. radio , heat , lights but the car will not move. it's no warning as to when it will just suddenly stop so it's extremely unsafe if driving on a highway.
Tamara recall check engine light remains on and car shutters sporadically.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. the contact stated that while the vehicle was put in park, the vehicle did not start. an independent mechanic diagnosed that the bushing on the end of the cable needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer was not called. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall and referred the contact to the nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 144,000. the vin was not available.
Loud cracking sounds coming from speakers caused by a failed audio control module, only 82k miles in. car battery draining, weekly required jump-starts with brand new battery installed.
Key not detected message came on with the key in the ignition as i was driving. then the next day it would not start.
Car engine burned up out of nowhere
Our call had a recall , never got notice and the recall on this vehicle localized overheating my cylinder head to crack, result in fire in engine and this is what happened to our 2013 ford fusion
Currently our vechicle is back in the dealership. we are a ford driving family. this car has been nothing but trouble. every recall. we had to replace the fuel pump, due to air in tank. then paid 2000$ and had it for 2wks. this was at the end of july 2018. for lectronic issue. now, the new problem the dealership can't figure out how to fix it. we were backing out of our drive. blacktop driveway. once your shift into drive forward the car shuts off. a mechanic symbol appears. we had it towed to the automax ford service in killeen tx 76544. this is a bad sign. we did buy it used, thinking it was a good deal but think this vechicle has been in an accident. it had hail damage on it that the dealer didn't even see that, i did and they fixed that. i told the dealer this will be the last ford vechicle.this experience is leaving a bad taste in our mouthies. we are seeking some assistance here on this problem. respectfully, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Driver seat i have a ford fusion 2013 that i purchased brand new and have already had many issues (some recalls and some not). i am currently having issues with my driver seat motor that moves seat ford and back for leg room. the side of the seat closest to middle console (right side) seems stuck and will not move forward. this results in a diagonally angled seat. i am not a tall person, therefore this issues makes me unable to drive my car. i have researched this issue and see several others have had this same issue. we brought it into the ford dealership where we purchased the car and the cost for said issue is over $2,000.00. seems like if multiple people are having this issue then there was clearly something wrong from the beginning. also- i see there is another seat recall from 2014 (front seat backrest replacement) to which the motor and seat electrical connectors are removed/replaced/or adjusted. leads me to think this may be an issues associated with this recall. i am dishing out the cost of this repair..i do not have any other option right now. but i am greatly disappointed with this issues and ford denying responsibility for this issues even though several ford customers have had the same issue. sadly, this makes me distrust purchasing a ford vehicle again.
A letter was mailed to me on april 2017 informing me of safety recall 17s09. we have been in contact with our local dealership to have this inspected and repaired when parts became available. the special order for parts was not placed until 7/3/18. they have not come in yet, per our local dealership, and i have documentation of all of this. on saturday 8/8/2018 the fire department was called to my residence to put out an engine compartment fire due to thisrecall issue. the engine started smoking as i pulled into my driveway with my 6 year old daughter in the car. no warning lights or engine overheating signals had alerted me. the fire escalated very quickly, and flames were seen coming drom under the hood and on the underside of the car. the vehicle is a total loss, and this has created a major financial hardship for our family.
2013 ford fusion radio still has sound, but screen is black, can't change stations, won't turn off, even after car is turned off and door opens. battery died, car wouldn't start. was able to jump start battery, but same thing happened 2 days later. now battery is completely dead. had this happened to another household vehicle even after having a new battery installed, and it turned out to be caused by a defective radio.
While driving there was a loud pop when the headed seats were engaged then a week later the radio, remote to unlock stopped working and the flat tire sensor will not stop flashing.
My 2013 ford fusion is experiencing an issue with the climate control system and the window controls. i have lost communication with the 'front control interface module', 'door control module a', and 'door control module b'. when this happens, my ecm displays the following codes, p193e: a/c clutch request signal, u0199: lost communication with door control module a, u0200: lost communication with door control module b, and u0256: lost communications front controls interface module. this happens quite frequently, and it has happened when my car is in motion and when my car is stationary. sometimes this happens when i start my car and sometimes this happens when i am driving. to be clear, i have no air conditioning, no ventilation, and i can not roll down my windows. to make matters worse, this seems to happen more frequently when the temperature outside is towards 90 or more degrees fahrenheit. this means the interior temperature of the care gets to be very hot. in my experience, the only way to fix this issue is to disconnect the battery terminals and then reconnect them but this only offers a temporary fix to the problem.
My steering is very loose my gear shift cable came off and cause an accident. and im having problems with my transmission because of it.
I was making a turn when my power steering went out and there was a message saying power steering assist fault. i took it to the car dealership where i had purchased my car and they said it was the electric power steering gear and i had researched that some previous cars had been recalled for that exact problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. the contact stated that the warning indicator illuminated for the coolant temperature, which was increasing. the vehicle failed to accelerate above 5 mph. the contact stated that the engine was turned off and restarted, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. the vehicle was towed to the dealer (hollingsworth richards ford, 778 florida blvd, baton rouge, la 70806, (225) 927-5555) where it was previously serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 17v209000 (engine and engine cooling). the contact was unsure if the remedy caused the failures because the vehicle had no failures prior to the recall remedy. the contact also mentioned that the vehicle was included in extended warranty campaign number: 14n02 (abs vehicle speed signal related communication loss that disables obdii system monitors). the contact stated that the vehicle had been at the dealer for over a week without diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.
On march 26th, 2018 at approximately 10:40pm my 2013 ford fusion (vin #[xxx]) caught fire underneath the engine compartment. this occurred after approximately a 5 minute drive. the car was parked for over 5 hours and on my ride home a light appeared on the dash showing coolant/engine overheating and smoke began to appear from the hood (this occurred as i entered onto the highway at approximately 60mph). i was able to exit the highway slowly and pull into a gas station. there the car continued to smoke and a person there pointed underneath the car where the fire was going. it took two fire extinguishers to put out the fire. i believe this is related to a recall 17s09. prior to the fire, i had taken the vehicle in twice to fix this issue. on 6/22/17 i took the vehicle into carmax to have the coolant temp sensor replaced after experiencing overheating problems. i then took the car into tuttle-click capistrano ford to have the coolant level sensor system installation work done per the recall on 7/7/17. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. while driving approximately 65 mph, the engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road, but it failed to restart. the vehicle was towed to villa ford (2550 n tustin st, orange, ca 92865, (714) 637-8222) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
Taken car to the dealership three times to have the acm replaced which controls the radio and the "my ford sync" and has continued to burn out despite system checks by dealership. the radio will work for about four days after replaced then fail again.
When keys are left in car it drains the battery. car was parked in garage.12
Check engine light came on. used code checker to investigate and came up with code p144c. ended up having to do with the canister purge valve and it had to be replaced. cost - $326.04 repairs completed at wray ford, 2851 benton road, bossier city, la 318-686-7300, invoice number focs245906 on 21 dec 2016 second item: problem with start/stop button. the wrench on the dash would light up. only thing i could find out was look in the manual, which showed and told me nothing. car would just arbitrarily shut down while driving !!! once the vehicle was stopped, i had to use a knife to pull the start/stop button out and then it would generally restart and the wrench on the dash would go off. took to dealership and stated the ignition button was faulty. originally taken to dealership on 11-1-2017 and they did not have a replacement part, stated they were on back order and had no idea when a new one would be available, in the meantime, ford expected me to drive a vehicle that could potentially shut down at anytime, while turning in from of another vehicle at an intersection would have been a deadly event !! i filed a complaint with ford motor company, ford case number cas13448074 but never heard anything from ford. i followed up with the dealership weekly on status of part. it finally came in around december 14th and i scheduled an appointment to have it replaced on december 18th. cost - $361.66 i want an investigation as to whether these are recurring issues and a recall should be made for these issues. the second one is a major safety issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. the contact stated that the auto battery saver mode kept activating without warning, which caused a drastic reduction in speed while driving. when the vehicle was turned off, it failed to restart because the diagnostic trouble code indicator was flashing. the contact planned to schedule a diagnostic appointment with ray skillman ford (1250 us-31, greenwood, in 46143, (317) 884-7164). aaa replaced the battery, but the failure recurred months later. the manufacturer was notified, provided a case number, and was to decide if the matter would be handled by them or the dealer. if not, the contact would be responsible for having the vehicle diagnosed and repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa action number: pe13003 (steering). the vin and failure mileage were not available.
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. the contact stated that the service engine indicator illuminated several times. the contact stated that the vehicle kept overheating and was slow to accelerate. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the computer needed to be replaced and recommended that the vehicle be towed to the dealer. the dealer (country ford, 95 goodman rd e, southaven, ms 38671, (662) 349-4300) made no mention of nhtsa campaign number: 17v209000 (engine and engine cooling). the contact was not informed that the recall needed to be completed. the dealer replaced the computer and did not mention anything about nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v597000 (air bags and seat belts), 15v246000 (latches/locks/linkages), and 16v875000 (seat belts). in addition, the dealer made no mention of the manufacturer service campaign (15r01) for the eps motor bolts - regional and (14n02) for the extended warranty coverage for pcm re-programming. within three weeks of the dealer's repair, the contact turned on the heat and noticed a strong odor coming from the vents. the vehicle started smoking under the hood and caught on fire. the fire department extinguished the flames and the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence by the insurance company who was to investigate the cause of the fire. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was not available. vin tool confirms parts not available. parts distribution disconnect.
On way to work i on the morning of 10-12-17 going about 75mph on interstate and all the sudden there was a ding and flash of red (check engine light) on the dashboard stating engine overheating and engine shut down and car basically went into neutral. i lost all power, radio, lights etc. with the momentum i had built up going 75 i was able to make it across the 4 lanes to the shoulder. an ohio state trooper stopped to assist and was dumb founded when he say there was no power, the car would not turn on. i called the dealership spoke with jay and advised that car was being towed in. service department at ford is stating that it's a safety feature to stop fire from happening, but honestly how safe is to have the engine and all electrical power completely shut down on interstate. it was a matter of seconds between ding, light and loss of power. car was towed in using my aaa membership on a flatbed to liberty ford in brunswick, ohio. i was advised later that day that it was the water pump and had nothing to do with the sensor that was recalled. i had to use pto for work on thursday and car was ready for pick up on 10-13-17 around lunch time. on 10-13-17 i had to leave work early to get to dealership before they closed at 6pm otherwise i would be charged $50.00 for the loaner if returned on saturday morning. i picked up my car and it cost me @$107.00 for the deductible since they are stating it had nothing to do with the recall and that it was the water pump. on the afternoon of 10-14-17 (@ 12:30-12:45pm) driving in medina area on way to event with niece in the car the check engine light came on again. see attached for full complaint and docs
The vehicle was started and was no more than 10 minutes from our house when it started smoking while being driven to work. within a minute the check engine light came on, within another minute the car lost power. the gas pedal wouldn't work, etc etc. we were able to coast into a side street and exit the vehicle. within a minute of that happening it burst into flames and was completely engulfed and destroyed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact had to coast the vehicle over to the side of the road, wait a brief moment, and then attempt to restart the vehicle each time the failure occurred. the vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 76,229.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. while the vehicle was started, the air conditioner and power windows failed to operate. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact stated that the weather was extremely hot. the contact called akins ford at (800) 282-7872 (located at 220 w may st, winder, ga 30680) where the dealer stated that the warranty enhancement on the abs was failing, and could possibly be the cause of the failure. the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 40,600.
Vehicle was parked (out of town weekend) when starting up to go home it totally shut down, light came stating something about coolant temperature and i had no power what so ever. got towed to ford, only had vehicle since feb. 2017, saudered and reconnected some wiring that they said was chewed by some critter, i.e. mouse. $360. later. after doing my own research i see wiring is being being covered in some soy coating and seats are made with other products that can lure critters. i don't understand and feel why should i pay that out of pocket.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford fusion. the contact heard an abnormal noise while driving the vehicle. the dealer replaced the battery, but it failed to correct the noise. while making a turn, there was a sudden loss of power and a warning indicator randomly illuminated for run power and the vehicle stalled several times without warning. the contact had to coast the vehicle over to the side of the road. the contact had to restart the vehicle a few times due to the failure. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in service campaign number: 14n02 to address the pcm reprogramming. the vehicle was towed to a dealer and was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
When the car is turned on, the car flashes the "check charging system" message once the car starts moving. with ok pressed, the battery warning light remains illuminated. as i drive, the vehicle may: illuminate the airbag warning light - have all radio functions stop operating - have the external temperature gauge read abnormal numbers - any or all of the above. the process disappears when the cars stops, and may or may not appear more than once in a day. the car drives normally, and 2 trips to the ford repair shop to replace parts (including the alternator) have not identified any problem with the battery or changed the behavior of the car. there is obviously some kind of electronic malfunction, and i am not sure about the fire hazard or safety of operating a car whose computers seem to be malfunctioning consistently. i have pictures of multiple incidents and 2 repair invoices that attempted to address the issue with no effect.
We were driving down the highway 2 hours from home and i had a warning light come on, engine coolant temptress overheated. so me and my husband pulled over on the side of the road everything looked fine, we had coolant.we sat for about 10 mins to be safe. and proceeded down the highway. after 2 mins we had another warning light come on steering system failure. at this point he couldn't move the wheel so we pulled over again and as soon as we stopped black smoke came in the vents and up the windshield. as we open our doors there is flames coming in the door on the front passenger side we quickly evacuated the vehicle and called 911.

On local road, vehichle hesitates when i step on the gas. when i get to a stop light it shudders then stalls. this occurs frequently for the past two weeks as of this entry date.my vehicle has under 53k miles and the dealer says the part and fix is not under warranty. its called a lo pressure gas sensor i believe. if its attached to the gas tank then how could it not be under warranty with under 60k miles standard coverage.is this standard for all dealerships with warranty coverage or lack there of for this part.
Car started on fire while driving on the highway going home for no reason lucky to get out
