Problems with 2011 Ford Fusion VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

On average, the 2011 Ford Fusion starts to “feel” problems with the VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL and its various aspects after 48 178 miles.

Components Affected by VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL Issues

We have classified the 250 complaints from 2011 Ford Fusion about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.

ACCELERATOR PEDAL 1

Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2011 Ford Fusion

Vehicle was being driven slowly to parking area when it suddenly accelerated and engine kept revving up and it lunged forward and crashed into a large tree, demolishing the front end. the ford parts performed exactly as they should have, preventing damage to the windshield or cabin area, but airbags did not deploy. the driver was not injured but was shaken up by the accident. upon inspection by the body shop and mechanic, the linkage was broken and damaged and needs further investigation to see if a defect in the linkage was a cause or contributing factor. damage to the front end is substantial and estimated in excess of $8,000 with the seen damage thus far. *tr

In the beginning of december while driving my friends home my fusion suddenly jolted and then i lost the ability to accelerate. the service wrench displayed and i had to come to a complete stop in a neighborhood. a few weeks later while driving home the same thing happened and i had to pull over to turn my car off and then on again, which seems to be the only way it will allow me to drive. fast forward to january and i began having troubles again. this time i was on the highway and my car jolted and lost the ability to accelerate. this was a major safety issue because the highway i drive on is under construction and has no shoulder. imagine if it would have been a busy night and i had to come to a complete stop. this has happened a total of 8 times. seems like a huge safety issue. i bought this car used with 34,000 miles on it and have to drive a lot for work. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated while attempting to merge into traffic, the vehicle suddenly accelerated without any warning. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred multiple times previously. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 55,950. ... updated 03/24/14 *bf the manufacturer was not notified and advised the dealer no to replace any parts. the consumer was informed to bring the vehicle back, when the problem occurred again. in addition, the sudden acceleration occurred on three different occasions, two of which were at very low speeds. updated 06/03/14

Traveling 70 mph on the highway and lost power with no warning. coasted to a stop with engine at a rough idle only. accelerator pedal had no effect on engine rpm. had vehicle towed the my ford dealership which diagnosed a failed "drive by wire" throttle body. i only have 37,400 miles on the car and yes 1,400 past the warranty (convenient $ for ford). this failed component at 70 mph on the highway caused several moments of anxiety until i got safely off the road. *tr

I was driving on the freeway when suddenly the vehicle lost speed completely and the wrench light turned on. i was fortunate enough to be driving fast enough and in the right lane and so was able to exit the freeway but the vehicle was extremely slow, not even 1mph. it did begin to shake while slowing down. this is an extremely dangerous malfunction. had i been in the left lane it would have been impossible to remove myself off the freeway safely. this is an issue that must be addressed. *tr

Driving on freeway the car went limp and lost speed without responding to gas pedal. the wrench light came on at the time it happened. this happened twice, first time yesterday on the freeway, second time today while on freeway going to work. once i was able to pull over and stop the engine, it car started up again and ran. *tr

While pulling into a parking space the and depressing the brake vehicle suddenly jolted forward crashing into a post. the check engine light came on indicating there was a problem. we have reported to ford on multiple occasions that the car surges when coming to a stop. we have been informed that they are unable to do anything without an error code. after the insurance company repaired the car we drove it to ford. unfortunately we were told that the error code will clear after driving a "complete cycle" or "running a vehicle health report". both were completed and ford repair tech's say this is a known issue but without a code they can not do anything about it. i own 2 ford 2011 fusions. the other car had an issue where it would frequently stall or go "limp" as ford calls it. much like the surges we have experienced with this vehicle, i had numerous occasions this occurred without any check engine light. finally it went "limp" getting onto the highway and the check engine light came on. i brought it into ford a few days later. the light was off but they were able to recover the code. i believe there is a major issue with the computerize throttle control in these vehicles and a recall is in order. we are lucky that the driver did not get injured. the airbag did no deploy even though there was substantial damage to the front end. the damage was caused by a post that cut through the bumper and damaged up to the radiator. as part of the research done i believe a detailed analysis of how the error codes are stored should be done. if the cars computer can clear errors there is limited evidence/documentation of problems. this appears to me as a "feature" to eliminate any trace of an issue. *tr

I was driving downtown and next thing i know my wrench light comes on and i lose all power to my ford fusion. i was scared because i didn't know what was going on. i couldn't do anything until i pulled off the road and shut my car off and restarted it. this problem has happened to me multiple times within the past 3 weeks. i would have to say its happened at least 15 times in those 3 weeks. i am starting to get annoyed with this problem because i took the car to the dealership and they constantly tell me nothing is wrong with my car, yet i know there is definitely something wrong. the problem happened again on 11/26/2013 and when it did my check engine light came on with the wrench light so i took it to autozone for them to check the engine light code and the code was p2111 and the description it gave was that the throttle actuator control system was stuck open. i now have proof to take to the ford dealership that something is wrong with the car. they better fix this problem! *tr

I was driving on the highway at about 65mph, i began to exit and came down to 40. once i started to slow down i felt the car tug, it was odd because it had never done that before but i finished exiting and tried to pick up speed again but couldn't. the rpm went down, wrench signal came out on dash, i pushed on the gas and nothing, it did not have anymore power. luckily there were many businesses to my right to where i was able to park safely, if i was still on the highway while this happened i could have easily been rear ended or worse because the car slowed on its own and i was unable to control the gas. as i pulled over the car began to shake, i turned it off quickly and called for help. a relative came to my aid to check it out but we couldn't find anything visible, we cautiously turned the vehicle back on and the wrench signal turned off, no more shaking, it was odd that it just completely lost power a few minutes prior and now it was back to normal. we drove it around the parking lot to test it, didn't want to leave it behind due to the area and possibility of theft, also could not afford a wrecker to pick it up. i ended up heading back home with my relative behind me. it was very uncomfortable, i'm so glad it was myself and not my wife and kids as this is her vehicle. i know they are numerous knows issues on the throttle body with this vehicle. it is sad that it has not been recalled yet, please take a stand and do not wait until somebody is seriously injured or worse. *tr

While driving, vehicle suddenly lost power. rpms dropped and vehicle slowed to only a few mile per hour. vehicle would not accelerate. vehicle had to be towed to dealership, and i was informed it was a throttle body issue. i was informed this is a common issue, and there might be a recall. if this had occurred on the freeway, it could has been disastrous. *tr

Driving at 45 mph, when car lost power and yellow wrench warning light came on. coasted into parking lot with accelerator not responding. turned car off, restarted it and ok. took to ford dealer and was charged over $500 to replace the throttle box. told not in warranty but saw many complaints online for this part in fusions and escapes. *tr

My wife was driving 65 mph on a very busy los angeles area freeway around 4:45 in the afternoon when her vehicle came to a grinding halt. the car went from 65 mph to a complete stop in about 30 yards! she said all she heard was a loud grinding sound and the screeching of the tires. luckily, the six vehicles behind her were able to stop, avoiding a chain reaction accident. the car has been at the dealership since november 4, 2013 when the incident happened. when i spoke to the technician, he mentioned that the transmission "disintegrated" internally and the only two options we had were to rebuild the transmission part by part, or order a whole new transmission. the vehicle is not even three years old! this was not the first time this happened. on october 2, 2013, she was about to enter the same busy freeway and the vehicle came to a stand-still at the intersection. none of the gears worked. after turning the vehicle on-and-off a few times and shifting the gear stick back-and-forth, the vehicle once again was able to move. can you please look into this issue as i am greatly concerned for the safety of my family now that this incident put my wife's life in danger? god forbid this happen again in front of a fully loaded semi or other high profile vehicle that would not be able to stop in time. do you recall the ford explorer rollover mishaps? *tr

We were going down a major roadway at about 45 mph when the car just decelerated to about 1 mph. it took us awhile to get over 2 lanes of heavy traffic to the side of road where we stopped the car. the wrench light came on. with it still running we popped open hood and car appeared to be running just fine. we could not get the rpm's to go up at all. we turned off car completely, and the wrench light went off and car drove normal. 2 hrs later the car did the exact same thing and we pulled over and started it up again and got home. we believe it has to do with the electronic throttle body, bc other complaints are exactly as ours with this year, make, and model of car. *tr

I was on my way to work yesterday morning (appx 7:30am so it was dark out) and i was slowing down with traffic (took pressure off the gas pedal) while crossing a bridge and when i went to accelerate again the car stopped moving and the wrench light lit up on the dashboard. my car was still running, but i had the gas pedal to the floor and the car would not move. when i realized i wasn't moving i hit the hazard button and braced myself for impact as cars were swerving around both sides of me. i put the car in park, shut it off, and tried to re-start it. it did not start right away, but when it did i revved the engine, put the car in gear and pulled off the road. i restarted the car again and proceeded to work. i learned that this is a common issue for this particular vehicle, yet it is not a recall issue at this point in time. based on my experience yesterday, it seems negligent that this particular issue has not yet warranted an action for a recall. i was fortunate that i reacted quickly and turned on the hazards and was not struck by another vehicle, especially being on a bridge over a body of water. *tr

I was driving down the street when my idle and rpm went down and i kept pressing on the gas pedal but the car would not accelerate (warning wrench symbol appeared). i was barely able to pull out of traffic and i nearly got hit in the rear by a tractor trailer. i turned off the car and got out my manual which said something about the throttle body. i turned on the car and everything was fine so i took the back road home (nitetime) and went about 10 miles and parked in front of my home. went out in the morning (sundayoctober 20) and was going to drive it to the dealer to leave overnite, got a mile from my home and the same thing happened, called a tow truck and had it towed to the dealer. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact was driving 35 mph when vehicle accelerated independently. the vehicle was towed to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not informed of the incident. the approximate failure mileage was 9000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while traveling approximately 75 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power and the mil warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 41,000. updated 02/11/2014 *bf the throttle body was replaced. updated 02/11/14

While driving at all times, the vehicle would start to surge and buck then loose power. it never completely died but when i pulled over it ran terrible and would not accelerate. i turned it off for a few seconds and restarted it. it would run for a while, good, then the problem would reoccur. the engine light came on, i had the code checked. the result was a faulty throttle body or sort in the throttle body module. *tr

Traveling at a steady speed and the engine cut out. not completely but had no acceleration control. have read on-line that this is called "limp" mode. was able to pull safely off the road and then restarted the car after which the vehicle operated ok. this has happened 3 times in the last week. took car to dealer who replaced the throttle body at no charge since the vehicle was still under warranty. although i was lucky enough to avoid an accident or injury, i could see this being a serious safety issue for a driver on the expressway or pulling in to heavy traffic. *tr

My wife had my 6 month old sign in the backseat when she was pulling out from a stop sign into a 4way when the car lurched and the accelerator quit responding in the middle of the street a truck nearly t boned her on the driver side where our son was in his car seat upon diagnostics the electronic throttle body was stuck open. i've found similar issues with similar vehicles although the dealership informed me my vehicle is not currently on a recall list. *tr

This issue is a big safety concern!! i have seen many statements online about the throttle body issue and their should be a recall!! i personally have had to have my car towed twice within a 2 week period because of this issue. every time my car broke down it was the same thing. i was going along fine and then the car all of a sudden dies, chugs, i drift to the side of the road so i don't get hit and then the engine light comes on with the wrench tool! how scary and unsafe! i am just so glad i wasn't in an intersection or hit by another car because my ford fusion decided to die out of no where! i have had to go through two tows, days of waiting for my car to get fixed and my warranty deciding they aren't going to cover my cost!! unbelievable!!! ford needs to take some action now! many people from what i have seen are going through the same thing and something needs to change. this issue shouldn't be on the customers shoulder and ford needs to take responsibility before someone is seriously injured from an issue their cars are making. please do something about this! *tr

I was driving on the highway and all of a sudden the car seemed to start shutting down. i lost speed and could not accelerate even thought i was pressing the accelerator pedal. the whole car started to shake and vibrate violently making a sputtering noise. i was able to brake, slow down and stop to pull off onto the shoulder of the highway. the car would not stop shuddering until i turned the engine off. i waited 10 seconds, turned the engine back on and the car drove normally again. this happened twice more, one at 30 mph and one at 60 mph again on the highway. then we took it to have the throttle body replaced. *tr

While driving down the road the car jerked and the wrench lite came on. the car would not respond to the accelerator and would only coast. i was fortunate enough to be on a hill and was able to coast into a parking lot. i stopped the car, put it into park, and shut off the engine. i tried to restart it, and after a long crank the engine started, the wrench lite was off, and the car and accelerator responded normally. i was able to drive the car home without further incident. my husband then test drove the car and had a similar experience while driving down the road and also had to pull into a parking lot. he drove it straight to the dealer and dropped it off for repair. the problem was diagnosed as a malfunctioning throttle body. research on the internet showed that this is happening to alot of ford fusion owners and we followed link to this website to report the problem. *tr

While driving down a busy street, going approximately 45-50 mph, my vehicle just stalled out on me. although the car was still running, my vehicle felt like it was drifting. when i tried to accelerate, nothing happened. when i applied my brakes, my vehicle then jumped forward, causing me to almost hit the vehicle in front of me. i had my vehicle towed to the closest ford dealership, where they advised that my throttle body had gone bad and needed to be replaced. come to find out, this was not covered under my warranty and will cost me over $500 out of pocket. my vehicle only has 41,000 miles on it! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle began to shake violently and stalled without warning. the check engine warning light illuminated after the vehicle had stalled. the vehicle was restarted and resumed normally. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where a diagnostic was performed, which located the failure at the throttle body. the vehicle was repaired. the throttle body was replaced. the failure and current mileage was 78,200.

This has happened multiple times varying from accelerating from a stop to highway speeds of 60+ mph. 2011 ford fusion sel suddenly loses all power and wrench icon illuminates and no acceleration happens at all. the engine remains at idle with fluctuations from 800-1200 rpms. had to cross multiple lanes and was almost ran into by three cars going a lot faster than me while i was listing to the emergency lane. once car is turned off and restarted the problem will go away. after much research and the one time it showed a check engine light i ran the codes and it all was pointing to a defective throttle body. i noticed that there are a lot of complaints with this aspect on this car and just hope someone doesn't have to get killed on the road like i almost did to get a recall on this car and part. *tr

Vehicle started to have problems around 83,000 miles. my daughter would just be driving along and suddenly the car would just stop accelerating and go to idle. she would have to coast to the side of the road to get out of traffic. she was able to turn the car off and start it again and clear the problem. it would go a couple of weeks without incident until all of the sudden would happen again. on most occasions, the yellow "wrench" light would come on as well. we first assumed it was bad gas or the fuel pump, but after researching discovered a lot of complaints with the exact symptoms that pointed to a faulty throttle body. i decided to submit a complaint after last night her car once again stopped accelerating on a bridge with a police officer behind her whom proceeded to pull her over. fortunately, the officer was understanding to the situation. it is very unsettling to have your inexperienced 17 year daughter on the highway with a vehicle that operates in this capacity. ford has been manufacturing cars for how many years and this is still the best they can do? to be driving down the highway at 60 mph and your car just transfer to idle speed. ridiculous! *tr

While traveling along a 2 lane route, at approximately 55 mph, the power in the car just died. the throttle would not propel the vehicle, there was no accelaration available and luckily i was able to shift the vehicle away from congested traffic. the wrench lights were flashing, the car sputtered while this started or occurred but when i pressed the throttle the car did not respond at all and the car came to a stop. i attempted to press the gas several times but again the car did not respond and was dead (the car was still on just it would not move). i then turned the car off, waited a few moments, then tried to start it again, it sputtered but started about 20-30 seconds into my attempt. once i started it, i engaged the throttle while in park and it responded, i then put the car in drive and it drove normally for the remaining 10 minutes of my drive.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated as the engine fluttered, causing the vehicle to stall. the vehicle was restarted and resumed normal operation. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 65,000.

Was driving on a local road, speed limit was 35mph, i was slowing down to stop at a red light then it turned green so i accelerated on the gas and then the vehicle started to lose power and and did not want to go and started acting like it was going to stall, so i pulled over parked and turned the vehicle off and then waited a few minutes and turn the car back on and the car seemed fine and i was able to drive again, this has happened at least 3 times in since then and i was told it was the throttle body that needed to be replaced, i am going to replaced it and hopefully it will do the trick. i heard that this is also a problem with other ford cars and is currently under investigation for a recall, i hope this letter helps with getting a recall submitted.

My wife was driving and i was her passenger on miller park highway on the 18th when all of a sudden the car jerks forward on us, it starts sputtering like it was going to choke out, my wife then tried to get on the should when she noticed that the cars accelerator went all the way to the floor without any response from the car. traffic was flying by us as the cars engine brake continued to slow us way way down. we were able to use the brakes. my wife finally got over to the side, turned on her hazards and turn off the car. we both sat on the side off roadway and i had to calm down my wife due to the fact hat she thought she was going to be in an accident. after a few minutes we turned on the car and the "wrentch" alert re-set itself and we were able to drive. my wife and i used to feel safe in our ford fusion, but unfortunately now we don't have any safe feelings after everything that our car has gone through ( blew out engine due to failed bearings, the trans slips all the time on us, etc etc ). we both truely loved this car, but now......

I was driving home going 45 mph when my car stalled without warning. when i tried to give it gas, it started jumping and jerking the wrench light came on. i was able inch by inch to move my car to the adjacent turning lane, turn on my flashers and call my husband on my cell phone. he was on his way home also and pulled up behind me. he tried to give it gas too but it would not budge. he turned the ignition off and then cranked the car. the wrench light went off and the car had power - just like turning it off had reset something. we were only a couple of miles from our house, so he drove by 2011 ford fusion home and i followed in his truck. i then called my dealer, jim tidwell ford on barrett parkway and told them what had happened. they suggested that i call a wrecker and have it towed to their location as driving the car might due further damage or the incident might re-occur. so, that's what i did. a service technician called me first thing this morning and i went over what had happened with him. he called me this afternoon and said my car was ready for pick up. the problem was the throttle body and motor assembly and since it was under warranty there would be no charge to me. i can't believe ford isn't declaring a recall on this part. if i had been on the expressway, i feel certain i would have been rear ended. this problem will cause someone to get killed. i'm just lucky no one hit me. it happened so suddenly and without warning. this type of situation will make you fall out of love with your ford product. i don't believe i will ever buy a ford product again, even though i prefer to buy american products. *tr

My wife and daughter was traveling down a busy highway when the vehicle went into limp mode. they were almost hit by another vehicle. this is definitely a safety hazard. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle decelerated without manual force with the illumination of the maintenance warning light. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the throttle body needed to be repaired. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

Increased rpm, then vehicle stalled on road giving transmission indicator. shifting delay, and stalling. reported to have internal problems with suggestion of transmission rebuild. vehicle has less than 100,000 miles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle lost power as the transmission warning light illuminated. the contact coasted to the side of the road to shut off and restart the vehicle, as it resumed normal function. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 44,000.

I have been sensing a surge in engine power for several months in my 2011 fusion. i suspected a throttle body problem and googled for information. i found all of the information on the nhtsa website about throttle body problems for this car as well as information in other forums. it was a good thing as i was prepared for what happened today. i had just left my house when the dreaded (and expected) loss of engine power with the wrench light being illuminated. i experienced the same symptoms reported by so many complaints logged for this issue: loss of power, rough idle, just enough power to barely move the car, certainly not enough to limp anywhere, much less home, even though the engine was in "limp home" mode. i had my code scanner with me and was able to retrieve the p2111 (throttle stuck open) code before i restarted the car to restore full power. this only worked enough to get the car turned around when limp home was triggered again. i restarted again and was able to get within a block of my house when limp home triggered once more. the third time i was able to get to my house. i called the dealer and then roadside assistance to get my car towed to the local ford dealer after verifying that they had a throttle body in stock. the car was towed there and a defective throttle body was diagnosed and replaced. this is not a case of if the failure will happen, but rather when. i was fully expecting it any day and sure enough, it happened. i was extremely fortunate as i was less than a mile from home, knew what to expect and how to deal with it, and my car was still in warranty, but only by 1,806 miles! any other situation would have resulted in me being in a very dangerous predicament with a car that was basically dead in the water. i was almost to the point of purchasing a new throttle body on my own in the interest of being proactive rather than being stranded. *tr

Vehicle was getting up to speed at about 40-50 mph and upon depressing gas pedal combined with shifting of gears (automatic), engine stalled. occurred twice with 5 miles on busy highway. engine light and wrench light came on each time. after shutting down engine on shoulder, it started right back and ran fine for a while. was fortunate with no traffic incident/accident either time. occurred three more times before getting to dealership. dealership service informed me that it was a throttle body issue and replaced the throttle body part it at my cost as the extended warranty did not cover it. *tr

This is my second occurrence: i was driving at a level speed of about 45 with the flow of traffic (in-city road, speed limit 45). when i heard my car seem to shift out of gear, and start stalling and slowing down and the wrench icon on the dash was lit up. i was in the left lane of a four-lane street. i got to quickest upcoming shoulder, and turned my vehicle fully off and back on. this stopped my car from stalling and shaking. but i am starting to feel very unsafe in my vehicle because there is no warning when my car will stall out and i do a lot of highway traveling. this was the second time in a 2 week period that this has happened. *tr

My 11 fusion died in gear (lemp mode they call it) in the middle of an intersection where i was almost hit and stopped traffic for a good amount of time due to it being in gear and unable to move. after being towed to a dealer and being told it was my battery; i left the dealer paying for the tow, diagnostic and a battery. i went back a week later for an oil change and was told my car was in good running condition. around the corner from the dealership is the on ramp to go home. as i was accelerating up the on ramp to highway speed it went into lemp mode again leaving me with no power entering onto the highway. thank god the semi and other vehicles behind me were paying attention and avoided rear ending me at high speed. i was again towed around the block from to the dealer where they have informed me that it is my throttle body position sensor and is not covered under my extended warranty, or the federal emissions warranty. $600.00 later; i am trading this car in because it is not safe to be driving with this possibility of losing all power at a critical time. some one needs to have them account for this error and get these cars off the road. i was close to being killed because of this and sooner or later this will cause a death. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled as the wrench warning icon illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the throttle body was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure and current mileage was 29,000.

Traveling on the highway doing 70mph and the car stalled. brought it to ford and they said the throttle body is defective and needs to be replaced. car had stalled several times 2 days earlier while at a red light, had to have one foot on brake and one foot on gas to keep it from stalling again. ford does not cover this defect. *tr

I was not in an accident. however, my car lost power (engine) while turning on a busy road! i had to turn my car off and restart the engine several times just to get my children and to a safe location. i finally parked the car and we walked home. it could have been worse as we were almost hit turning (when it first went out). the car was towed and i am being told my ford that the throttle body needs to be replaced and my pcm need to be reprogrammed. the issue is the fact that i have been complaining about the car feeling like transmission is slipping but was told it was ?normal? for a ford. now that it is out of warranty and almost cost my children and i our lives?it?s not covered. i have only had this car 2 years and call ford company. well, while speaking to them i do some research and see that this is an issue and decided to send an email. this is very dangerous and needs to be addressed. not to mention costing us to have it get fixed. ford nor my dealership does not have any records of my complaints. the only one they see is from a month ago when the car first stopped on me. i tried to get it seen but no dealership had a transmission clerk that could se my car for a month!!!! then when i went to turn on the car to check the miles, the engine was off and i was told the error would not read. ford is not helpful and this issue needs to be resolved. *jb

*tr

I was driving doing 60-65 mph in a construction zone and all of a sudden i just lost power. i pushed the gas pedal to the floor and there was nothing. the engine and radio were still running and the light came on the dash that looked like a wrench. i coasted off the road and stopped and shut the car off, waited a minute or so and restarted the car. i proceeded down the freeway and within 10 minutes the same thing happened again (still in the construction zone), this time the check engine light came on and stayed on after i restarted the car. my husband, son and i were on our way to utah from idaho. it didn't do it again for the remainder of the trip so the check engine light went off because it reset itself. my car is still under factory warranty and i need a reliable car maybe the fusion isn't as reliable as they claim it is. *jb

While driving at low speed, the vehicle slowed and stopped, requiring me to pull off the road. the engine remained running, but at a very low rpm - applying gas did nothing to rev the engine. after turning the vehicle off, i was able to restart it and limp it home. the next time i drove it, approximately 3 days later, it acted similarly, threatening to cut off when not applying gas. i took it to the ford dealer for diagnosis and was immediately told this was probably a "throttle body" problem. the dealer confirmed this the next day and placed an order for the part. the part is on back order, i suppose due to the demand for correction on this part. i left the vehicle with the dealer for the 5-7 business days needed to get the part as i was not comfortable driving the vehicle without the repair. thankfully it is still under warranty. i understand this is a $500+ part. *tr

Was driving down the road today, and upon taking off at a green light, a wrench icon came on and the rpm started fluttering and the car wouldn't accelerate. so i pulled over and turned the car off and waited a minute and turned the car and it did fine. about five minutes later, i was on the enter ramp to the interstate and it did it again. pulled over in the shoulder and turned it off and on again and it ran okay.. as soon as i hit the gas, it did it again. so i turned it off and on again and made it to an autozone to have the engine light read (which came on after the third occurrence.) engine light read p2111 and that the throttle body actuator was stuck open. called my dealer and they said the whole throttle body would have to be replaced. then i called my warranty, and they said its not covered. i'm extremely irritated at this situation.. and once i googled it, i noticed quite a few people have had the same problem.. so there should definitely be a recall.. *tt

My car had just over 52000 miles on it when this incident occurred. i was driving on the highway around 70 mph when my car lost throttle control. it felt like the transmission pulled itself out of gear and i was unable accelerate. i had very little control over my car. when this issued occurred the "wrench" icon on the dashboard had turned on. i was able to pull over to the shoulder, and when i put the car in park the car began to mildly jerking. frantic, i turned off the vehicle to stop the jerking. after about 10 seconds, the car was finally calm and i attempt to restart the car. when car was restarted there was no longer any jerking coming from the vehicle, the wrench icon was gone, and i had control of my gas pedal again.
