We have classified the 250 complaints from 2011 Ford Fusion about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.
While taking a one lane exit on the freeway going at 30 miles per hour a wrench light came on and my car completely loss power. the car coasted until it came to a complete stop. this was very dangerous! i could have died. you guys really need to get all of there ford fusions off of the road. i could not accelerate or brake to slow on the freeway. i waited 5 minutes and the car turned on with no problem. my mechanic could not replicate the problem so he said there was no problem. while looking online this is a throttle body issue. which needs to be recalled immediately. i can't work if i can't get there with a car that i've purchased!!! i refuse to drive this car!
The wrench light came up on my car. it says it's the throttle control transmission. the car gave no sign or warning about this car throttle. the code coming up is p2111. i believe there was a investigation going on with my situation a few years ago. is this a recall or something that can be fixed because of a recall?
While driving, at posted speed, 40mph ....all at once, there was a complete loss of acceleration, a very rough idle to the engine and a wrench icon showed on the dash. i had to quickly pull off to the side of the road. i was able to turn the vehicle off and then when i started the vehicle again the problem seemed to reset and the wrench icon disappeared. i took the vehicle to local mechanic and their computer tools were not able to find anything wrong (codes with a diagnostic check). car seemed to run fine for approximately the next 500 miles and then, while driving on a busier road at 65 mph, the vehicle did the exact same thing, again causing me to need to avoid an accident and pull to the side of the road. i, once again, was able to reset the system by turning the vehicle off and back on. i am very concerned about the safety of this issue and feel that i am now limited only to local travel.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving 35 mph, the vehicle jerked and stalled. in addition, the check engine and service vehicle warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the throttle bottle needed to be replaced. the dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. the failure mileage was 108,000.
1)power steering assist fault error message. no power steering. 2)service trac control error message 3)cruise control sticking at a high speed so can't use it.
The power steering in my 2011 ford fusion has been going out periodically. when this happens, i have to wait for the opportunity to make a wide turn because it's very difficult to turn the wheel. there's been several occasions when i caused traffic jams or almost got rear ended since the car behind me didn't expect me to take so long to turn. a lot of times the power steering goes out when i'm stopped at a red light. i can still drive the car to my destination locally using the streets but i fear that it will go out one day while i'm driving on the freeway. luckily it's usually only me in the car when it happens but i'm afraid that it might also happen when my kids are in the car. it's also frustrating because only i can drive the car because when it happened once when my wife drove it, she panicked and wasn't strong enough to turn the wheel. this time, she did have one of my children in the car. i had to go meet her and drive it home. i've been researching this issue and have found that thousands of vehicles with the same make, .model, and year have experienced similar issues yet only certain vehicles are part of a recall. my car is experiencing exactly everything that the recall says it would yet when i run my vin #[xxx] through fords database, my car does not fall under this power steering recall. which i find very disturbing. i've also contacted ford corporate and my local ford dealership and they just advise me that my vin # is not part of that recall. which is very odd. since my car is exactly what the recall describes. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated and came to a complete stop. the contact had to turn off the engine because it was still on when the failure occurred. when the vehicle was restarted, it functioned properly. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and it was diagnosed that a sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
Purchased car from seven star auto pensacola florida first problem was horn he never fixed than water pump and time belt i fixed supposed to fixed throttle body but never fixed and also he never installed horn for safety i tried to get refund but i'm in school an d i work and still pay note for a defictive car and i also hit pot hole which caused more suspension damage and dealer still doesn't know how to help me
My car was stopped at a stoplight with a vehicle in front of me. i shifted into neutral as i needed to take my foot off the brake. the car was on level ground so it would not roll forward or backward. i put my foot on the brake and shifted back into drive. the car accelerated without warning. i jammed on the brakes, but the engine was racing and i couldn't stop my car from hitting the vehicle in front of me. i happened to glance at the tachometer during the incident and saw the needle dropping below 4,000 rpm. the engine returned to normal rpms after the collision. no one was injured and the damage to both vehicles was minor. both vehicles were able to leave the scene under their own power.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving, the vehicle failed to accelerate over 20 mph without warning. the vehicle was unable to accelerate after restarting the vehcicle. there were three warning indicators illuminated at the time of the failure. the vehicle was towed to germain ford of beavercreek (2356 heller dr, beavercreek, oh 45434 (937) 429-1300), but was not diagnosed or repaired because it was under inspection. the manufacturer was contacted, but could not offer assistance because the vehicle was not under warranty. the failure mileage was 109,000.
Vehicle failed to accelerate. dealership indicated that this vehicle vin was outside the extended warranty for trottle body replacement. car was experiencing exact symptons of trottle body issue. during acceleration the vehicle would stall and failed to restart for a few minutes. the issue is extremely intermittent.
When traveling on a highway the car shifts hard and will not accelerate. dealer would not replace throddle body when asked to. there is a recall on this. i also suggested a software update. i was told i need a new transmission. the car has been sitting since last year. i purchased a new car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while approaching a red light with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle began to accelerate independently without warning. the contact had to apply the emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle. earlier that day, while driving 10 mph, the sensors on the instrument panel and heater failed. the contact shut off and restarted the vehicle; however, the electrical power did not return until minutes later. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving 60 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle decelerated independently. the contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 99,000. the vin was not available.
In the last 24 hours my vehicle stalled on the freeway (i was almost rear-ended--this highway has a curb on both sides instead of shoulders) 4 times in 5 miles. the first time was as i was turning onto the highway from an intersection. each time, i was unable to accelerate the car with the gas pedal. each time, this was preceded by a lurching forward and a sluggish performance of the engine for about 1 second before the engine no longer powers the wheels. the wrench light comes on and i have to turn the car off and then turn it back on in order to be able to accelerate again. as i said, when i would accelerate, the engine would die, and this happened four times. when i restart the car, but before it dies again, the check engine light comes on. this is an issue with other 2011 ford fusions that the nhtsa has already investigated--the throttle body is defective. however, somehow the nhtsa let ford off the hook and didn't recall the part and allowed ford to only apply the "customer satisfaction program 13n03" to cars with automatic transmissions. i have a manual transmission car. i will tell you that exactly what happened in cars that initiated the investigation and this program is exactly what is happening in my car. the investigation needs to be reopened and this throttle body needs to be recalled for all transmission types. i was almost rear-ended by a car going 55 mph, even though i had my 4-way flashers on in the right lane, because the highway my car died on a does not have shoulders. this defective part is an extreme safety hazard and needs to be recalled!!
While driving at 60 miles per hour my vehicle decelerate in rush hour traffic, miles away from home. i was able to put my emergency flashers on and move over to the shoulder before my car completely lost power. i had a tool light come on the dash and the car was still on but no power. i turn the engine completely off for about t 1 minute and then restart my car. i was able to safely make it home. on my grandchildren first day of school, while picking up at 1 of 3 schools on the way to the second school my car decelerated just before a train track during rush hour once again. this time my engine light came on the dash. following the same technique i restarted my car, made it across the track only for it to quit again. my grand baby was worried and needless to say so was i.. using the same technique we were able to make it safely home. requiring another vehicle to go pick up at the other two school late.... please tell me i shouldn't be afraid to drive my car because right now i am i attempted to perform a vehicle health check but it want allow me too. please say there is a solution to this ongoing problem surely ford is aware of this problem and there's a recall and i'm unaware right
After many failed temps from ford for my body throttle issues & fords dealer refusal to replace the throttle body, bc the code isn't present when they hook up they're device to it(ford rules). even though is known with ford they code will clear when the car is turned off or in my case sometimes shut off by itself when the wrench light appears.06/02/15ford dealer did a pcm update for the t.body & was good to go. less than a month later issues started again. it has happened countless of times with my bf & w.my kids in the car. i called davidson ford & spoke to the manger where he stated not to shut the car off so the code doesnt clear & i asked if the tow guy would leave the car on to bring it here. he goes well no! they weren't of help ever.on 03/07/16 heading home my car went in limp mode & steering went stiff. i couldnt control the car & ended up hitting a guard rail.my car got damage & hurt my back.the officer stated i was lucky bc 20 more ft i would of hit the telephone pole. the tow truck guy also stated the car wasn't safe to drive.the nxt day my bf called ford(who open a case)& state farm our insur.co. we went to n.side collison were we explained the situation & recalls on my car.he said he would try & talk to ford to see what he could do. he couldn't do anything & we had to deal with ford.this collison center was on a time frame & real pushy.so i had the car transferred to alan buyer collison center who works w. my insur. & ford. we've played phone tag with ford csd. the claim was sent to fords legal general council whose supposed to handle the case & had 15 business to respond. they haven't responded or try to make contact with us!i was also told by fords csd not to have the collison center do anything till we hear from the legal counsel. my car has been at the c.c 62+days untouched. i upload letter i sent to ford company.
While driving on city street car just loss power and slowly stop moving ,so i pull over into the center divider as it shut down. i turned the ignition to off started it back up and continued on that happened a few years after i bought the car brand new, recently my car has ben doing a lot of jerking as if i'm running over a rock so i took it in and some work was done with the transmission, that was about 2/3 weeks ago and it started doing the jerking again it usually happens when i take off. so i call today and made another appointment. my concern is that this car isn't even 5 years old and already having problems with the transmission and other issue. and i got the 5 year warranty with is soon to expire and the i stuck with a car that i feel was faulty from the beginning.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving at approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was able to be restarted after several attempts. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,500.
On august 1st, 2015, i was on my way home at about 10 pm at night. i was going up a hill that curved to the left and suddenly lost control of my steering wheel. instead of turning left the car proceeded to go straight where i then began to panic. i then slammed my brake to the floor and it somehow unexpectedly sped up. i crashed into a power line and smashed the front end into a tree that had totaled my vehicle. i have seat belt burns on my neck, stitches on my knee, abrasions, suffered from a minor concussion, a large amount of bruises, small cuts on my hands and forehead. i have full medical documents of my injuries including pictures. i later found out there were 2 recalls on the vehicle a power steering and 1 full throttle body recall. the power steering was completely replaced previously in 7/16/2013 & 10/26/2013 and there was no solution to the throttle body recall except a extend warranty. i also went to the car dealership where i purchased my vehicle 2 days before the accident and they mentioned nothing about any of the recalls. they also had no clue why it was making the strange noises and told me it was fine after 4 hours of service. im still currently experiencing pain in my shoulder that was diagnosed at the orthopedics on august 18th. i have to attend physical therapy twice a week for 6 weeks. i currently have shooting pains in my left shoulder & muscle spasms. also my leg has nerve damage where im still experiencing numbness at this time. there is also permanent scarring from the seatbelt burns & the air bag ripping off the skin of my left thumb. we have documentation of everything including the police report, car diagnosis and the vehicle is still at the tow lot. no one else was involved or injured however there is documentation of the previous power steering recall accident.
My car has had a few recalls. i brought it to watertown ford and they did not fix it properly. i bought it at enterprise car sales, woburn ma. they were supposed to check it and it was not certified like they promised. from the first month the car had issues. it keeps showing the wrench and not accelerating properly. i can't afford to keep fixing it. i would like ford to buy back the car. for more than 11,000.00.
Driving my car when it all of a sudden slowed down to a very slow idle speed. got out of traffic and glided into a parking lot only for it to all of a sudden begin racing rpm's. took to ford and they replaced the throttle body and motor assembly. lucky that nobody hit me. *tr
While driving one saturday evening out of no where the car idles down to about 5 mph until it stops , the steering wheel and gas pedal locks up and my husband and i are stuck in the middle of the road with traffic behind us, thankfully there was no accident. i then put the car in park, switched to key back to turn it off and back on to try and move it from the road to the gas station that we were right in front of (thank god). we eventually got the car in the parking lot and noticed the wrench light and the check engine light were both on. we did our research and found out it is a problem concerning the throttle body, in which i heard is very costly. the problem stopped for about a week then started again and happens randomly while in traffic, again thank god no accident has occurred. this car is my husband and i only means of transportation right now and i am 4&1/2 months pregnant so we need this car to travel not only to and from work but also my doctor visits. i don't know if anyone else has experienced this problem but it's a huge safety problem and we've only had the car for about 9 months. *tr
with cruise control on , at highway speed of 60 to 65 , on level road , transmission will down shift one or two gears. rpms go from 2000 up to 3500. to get it back to 6th gear i have to cut cruise control off. rpms go back to 2000.ford dealer cannot find any codes when tested. car does this in first fifty miles or sometimes goes 100 miles before dropping gear. car was bought 20 months ago with 21c miles as certified vehicle. now has 34c on car. it has always had this problem. last time tested by dealer 3-2015.
This happened to me on multiple occasions where i will be driving and my car just looses power and the throttle wont work. i have been lucky enough not to have been in an accident but have almost been in two because of the problem. i have to pull over and shut the car off for a couple of minutes before i can start it back up and when i try to start it back up it has a hard time starting. *tr
Had cruise set at 55mph and lost all power. the wrench light came up on the dash and could not accelerate. had to pull over to the side of the busy highway. restarted the car and it seemed normal. the car has done this multiple more times since the incident yesterday. it is now doing it every time we drive. it is extremely dangerous to lose power in your car on a busy highway! this problem needs addressed. from what i read online there are many people that have/had the same problem! *tr
My vehicle stopped in the middle of traffic (several times), while driving 25 mph. it stopped with no pre warning signs. the car is only 3 years old and i only purchased it less than four months ago. this is very disheartening! *tr
Going down the road and there was a thump and the gas pedal quit working. the car didn't go dead but the gas pedal wouldn't accelerate the vehicle, coasted to the side of the road, turned it off and back on and the gas pedal worked. it did this twice on 8/22/14, once on 8/24/14 and has done it once today so far 8/25/2014. the first time it did this was 9/12/13 and it didn't do it again until 8/22/14. there are pages and pages of ford fusion owners having this same problem and they say it is the throttle body causing the problem. when it did it today i was pulling out on to the highway from a stop sign and could not accelerate to get across the road. i had to stop in the center lane to keep from being hit. ford needs to fix this before someone is killed. i am scared to drive my own car but don't have any other way to get to work. the reference # for last years complaint is 10543529. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the engine decelerated without warning. the vehicle was merged to the side of the road. the engine restarted. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the electronic throttle body needed to be repaired. the failure was repaired but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000. the vin was unavailable.
Car would not go over 10 mph. pulled over turned car off, restarted and engine surged up and down. turned off again, restarted. problem went away. this is the second time it happened. *tr
After stopping at a stop sign, when i pushed the accelerator, the vehicle jerked and would not accelerate past the idle drive speed; a wrench light displayed on the dash; i slowly maneuvered into a parking lot. after restarting the vehicle, i managed to get home and drive the car for several days without issue. a quick internet search led me to suspect the throttle body. on about july 29th, the same thing happened. i pulled to the side of the parking lot that i was in and restarted the vehicle. on the morning of july 31st, as i put it in park at my place of employment, the vehicle stalled (the engine stopped and rpm display showed 0) and the battery light and oil lamp light displayed. the vehicle started right back up. upon leaving my place of employment, the vehicle stalled four additional times within the 9 miles between work and the nearest auto parts store. the employee stated that the affected part was the "throttle body" just as i had found before. *tr
While driving down the interstate to work, the car all of the sudden jerked and started to decelerate. i was able to pull off onto the shoulder, while the car continued to jerk forward. i turned off the ignition, waited a few seconds, and restarted the car. i proceeded to reenter the highway, and a few seconds later it did the same thing again. i once again pulled off onto the shoulder, turned off the ignition, and restarted the car. this time the car ran fine all the way to work. i am concerned that since the freeway has a few construction spots where there are no shoulder pulloffs, i could have been in a serious accident. *tr
Steering feels very loose. when i hit the brakes my car steering feels very loose. *tr
I own a 2011 ford fusion. while taking my child to a birthday party we noticed surges in power at no previous inclination of a problem. two days later i noticed the same surge in power as if the car wanted to speed up and slow down on its own. the problem progressed a few days later to surges in power and also my car then completely died at a red light. it is now four days later and the problem has rapidly increased to a problem of dying while driving down the road and dying while idling sitting in the drive way. this is a serious safety issue, a car should not accelerate and decelerate or completely die while driving down the road. i could possibly see a serious issue or accident occurring because of this problem. i have researched issues with my model of car and have seen several people have the same issue and share my concern. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle experienced a loss of power; however, it still had some electrical function. prior to the failure, the vehicle was remedied under ford's customer satisfaction program 13n03, but the failure recurred. the throttle body was replaced and the vehicle was reprogrammed three times. the failure occurred seven times. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 38,500.
2011 ford fusion. consumer writes in regards to throttle body problems. *smd the consumer received a letter from ford stating he could possibly experience a sudden reduction of engine power. the consumer believed a recall should be issued, instead of issuing warranty extension. *jb
Vehicle over accelerated when coming to a stop. i put both feet on brakes and shifted into park/neutral (has happened several times) and car accelerates to over 7000 rpm and automatically goes back down to normal. i have had the throttle body & motor assembly replaced (4/28/2014) yet it happened again immediately upon initial drive from ford dealership. dealership kept my car for 3 additional days and then advised that they could find nothing wrong and i was told (sales general manager) that what i was reporting to them "could not happen". *tr
While making a right turn into a parking space in a parking garage the vehicle suddenly accelerated and hit the concrete pylon before the brakes which were applied stopped the car. there was a lot of front end damage but no personal injuries. *js
my wife, [xxx], was driving our fusion. she had traveled approx. 1/4 mile and was approaching a stop sign at bayside dr. newport beach,ca at the harbor is. dr. intersection. suddenly, the car accelerated, catching her by surprise she went through the intersection and was narrowly missed by two oncoming cars. she told me later that it happened a second time on the freeway (she was on her way home) but was not in immediate danger when it occurred. we have traveled these streets several times. had just left the restaurant where we had lunch....was riding my bicycle home and watched her go through the intersection....very scary!! note: the throttle positioner was replaced on this vehicle a couple months ago. it had failed to 5mph. villa ford in orange ca did the repair. Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle suddenly accelerated while she pulled into a parking area at unknown speeds. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileage was 13,000. updated 6/10/14*cn the consumer stated the vehicle surged and applying the brake, did not stop the vehicle. the vehicle went off the road into some trees. updated 07/24/24
During normal driving conditions and speed, the car just stopped being responsive to the acceleration pedal without warning, the maintenance wrench light came on, and the car started slowing down. i was able to turn on the hazard lights and pull over to a safe location, while cars were pulling up behind me very quickly. as the car was left idling it became very rough, like the car was missing. to correct the problem, i had to turn off the car, wait thirty seconds to a minute and start the car again. the car started a little rough but returned to normal operation. the maintenance wrench light was not illuminated and no other warning lights illuminated. this has happened twice so far about a month apart. the first time this happened the vehicle was less than three years old and only had 23,214 miles on it. luckily both times it happened on a local street and not on a highway. i consider this a safety and reliability problem. you have no idea when your car is going to just stop accelerating as you are driving. *tr
I am filing a formal complaint against ford motor company about sudden and repeated surging occurring on my 2011 ford fusion. the first time the car surged as i was braking, the car suddenly surged forward. the surge threw the car approximately 10 feet before it slowed. i was able to turn onto a side street and into a parking lot to turn off the car. after quieting down i was able to start the car, making sure that there was plenty of room between me and whatever car was ahead of me when i braked at a traffic light or stop sign. after the second time it surged, as i was again braking, i had the car checked by a ford dealership service department that was unable to find anything wrong with the car or its settings. the car did not surge when it was test-driven by the service personnel. today, tuesday march 3, 2015, is the third time the car has surged. i was parking the car when, as i was backing into a parking space, the car surged forward.. i turned the steering to avoid the truck parked ahead of me. while there was no damage to the truck, my passenger side rear-view mirror was severely damaged and must be replaced. the ford service center where i took the car has estimated that it will.cost over $400 to replace the mirror. in addition there are a number of scrapes along the side of the car which a body shop will have to repaint. this is a serious safety issue. fortunately there have not been any personal injuries as a result of the surges to date but i am very nervous about driving the car. i have now seen identical complaints about this happening with ford fusions on this and other automobile complaint sites. this is a factory or product defect that needs to addressed by ford motor company before someone is seriously or fatally injured. *tr
2011 ford fusion. consumer writes in regards to throttle body customer satisfaction program recall notice. *smd
In january, 2014 i received a letter from ford indicating contamination on the internal motor contacts of the throttle body may occur, resulting in intermittent electrical connectivity. engine power and vehicle speed would be reduced. because of this potential problem, ford is offering to extend the warranty on the throttle body to ten years. i believe ford should issue a recall for the car and fix the potential problem now before it occurs and causes a safety problem. any assistance you could provide in having ford issue a recall would be appreciated. thank you. *tr
2011 ford fusion lost power and stalled and found out that the electrical throttle body needed to be replaced for a cost of 500.94 by a mechanic because it is not covered by ford even thought there are many complaints about this bad part in the fusions. there should be a recall on this and/or reimbursement for getting it fixed. only had the car 6 months with less than 28k miles on it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford fusion. the contact stated that while traveling at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into a cement staircase. the driver sustained shoulder and head injuries. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 25,000.
Battery goes dead after sitting a few days. possible sign of electric throttle body failure.!!??? battery replaced twice in 4 months, charges normally. while looking for possible electrical problems associated with the 2011 fusion (11k miles) i discovered there is many, many people complaining of throttle body failure. i went to the local dealer and called ford and asked them to replace the throttle body and trace the electrical problem. i was told that they would only honor their "customer satisfaction program" concerning the throttle body if it fails!!!!!! i explained that i was afraid to drive the vehicle and if they had an updated throttle body and "limp home" update they should install it and make corrections. a call to ford and they refused to fix the potentially deadly problem. so what recourse is there?? my fusion and f-350 are both headed for trade at a no nonsense dealer. lacrosse and silverado, here i come!!!!!!! i suggest you do something similar. *tr
I was driving 40 - 45 mph and suddenly i lost acceleration and the car stalled. it seemed to have fell out of gear as the car did not 'die', there was no longer any response in the gas pedal. i utilized what remaining speed i had to navigate to a safe place to pull off the road. i turned off the car and turned it on again and could drive again. this happened 2 more times on the way home (total distance from first failure to 3rd failure was less than 2 miles). each time the car is shut off and restarted the 'wrench' / check engine line does not return. i had it towed to ford dealership today, however after reading the countless experiences of the same exact ordeal, i felt it necessary to capture this incident here. Car went into limp mode. lost almost all power. will move on flat road with limited rpm about 1000. no power and car shakes while moving. this repeat of what happen year back while driving at 40 mph - lost power. at that time dealer change throttle body to correct the problem. in less that year i see same systems and car is back to dealer. *tr
