We have classified the 1052 complaints from 2012 Ford Focus about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Multiple issues car disengaged from transmission when on highway. rpm shot way up but car not engaging to transmission. had to pull over (coast) to side of highway with no power train. required major dps6 replacement at ford dealer in park city utah initially when purchased car would roll backwards when in forward gear, the car still does this and will all roll forward when in backward gear. car still constantly stutters when moving forward from stop. jerking motions. i called ford customer to complain and advised. they told me nothing could be done in 2012. i asked to put on record 'the car rolls backwards when in gear' when on any incline. there is children in my neighborhood! another complaint logged 2/22/17 1-800-392-3673 with ford. the tcm was repaired and a complete transmission overhaul was done in sunnyvale ca.
I cannot give exact dates and mileage because this problem has been form the get go and gotten progressively worse recently. the car used to simply struggle to go form a stop or low speed. we had the transmission reprogrammed but that did not help. it continues to act in that manner but now has gotten dangerous to drive. we bought the car new and it is driven from georgetown, ky to cincinnati 5 days a week for work. it now has roughly 105,000 miles on it, though that may be just a little high. the car is now losing power, not shutting down but losing power. it is happening at slow speed and at highway speed. my wife has reported it has nearly caused her to have an accident on more than one occasion. we have spent over $1100 trying to fix it based on what the dealership is telling the "codes" say is wrong but the problem persists. i am afraid this car will cause an accident and hurt someone or worse it we continue to drive it. we cannot afford to put any more money into it, trade it in, or stop using it. i have seen countless complaints about this vehicle and i have to wonder why there has not been a mandatory recall to replace the transmission, not just reprogram it since that doesn't work. please put ford on notice that this issue must be corrected and all outstanding vehicles that have reported this problem must be fixed before the cars kill someone. thank you. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving 75 mph, the vehicle emitted a grinding noise and the transmission shifted erratically. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on many occasions, but the contact was informed that the transmission was performing as designed and the grinding noise was normal. the dealer could not find a failure and stated that there were no recalls or warranties covering the failure. the manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 2,364. updated 08/16/12*lj
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that once he shifted to drive and attempted to accelerate, the vehicle started to shake and lunge forward. the contact also stated that when the vehicle shifted from 1st gear to 2nd gear it hesitated and made a loud grinding noise and independently reverted back to 1st gear. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and was told that this behavior was normal and provided a letter from the manufacturer instructing the dealers not to repair those failures. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 5,000 and the current mileage was 16,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while stopped on an incline, she attempted to apply pressure to the accelerator when the hill assist failed, causing the vehicle to roll away in reverse. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis where the transmission program was updated however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was returned to the dealer and the contact was informed that the failure could not be repaired, as it was designed to operate in the manner in which it performed. the manufacturer was notified and the contact was awaiting a return call. the failure and current mileage was 6,000.
This is a ongoing problem with my focus. when accelerating from a stop the focus's automatic dsg transmission (in d) will quickly shift to a higher gear in an effort to minimize fuel consumption. during a stopped turn at a intersection this leads to a unsafe condition where commanded acceleration takes several seconds to happen. the problem happens like this: the car accelerates at a stop sign or parking lot. the car accelerates to 10-15 miles per hour. the driver lets off the gas during the "turn" part. the transmission shifts to second or a higher gear. the driver then commands a large acceleration - say due to oncoming traffic - and nothing will happen for several seconds. this is because the dsg transmission needs to shift sequentially into first and this takes several seconds. also it appears that the powertrain is disconnected while this shifting takes place. when the transmission finally selects first the acceleration can be sudden and unexpected. this has happened to me several times and i believe it is a dangerous condition. it can be avoided by manually selecting first - then shifting to d when the turn is complete. *js
I purchased my 2012 ford focus in may of 2011 - a fairly early build of the remodeled vehicle. at around 20k miles, the car started exhibiting some unusual noises. the dealer told me they were "normal characteristics" of the transmission. since then, several other focus owners (focusfanatics.com) have had the same issues. my car now makes a grinding noise when shifting into reverse, 2nd, 4th, and occasionally 6th gear. when climbing hills, the car appears to have little-to-no power and makes a horrid rattling noise that i am now aware is the clutch slipping. while in bumper-to-bumper traffic, the car bucks and jerks. the car has an "automatic" dual-clutch transmission, so there is no way that i can change the shifting patterns. it turns out this is a common issue caused by a leaking seal contaminating the clutch with oil, but consumers are needing to fight the dealers to get it fixed as it is a costly repair. i've tried repeatedly to get it corrected under warranty and keep getting turned away. aside from the fear of my own safety, i also assume this will be detrimental to the life of other components (actuators/synchros/engine mounts/etc.) within the power train that i may need to pay to replace out-of-pocket after the warranty expires. aside from repairing it myself, a recall is my only hope. *tr
I was driving on freeway at 5 mph due to traffic and all of a sudden my 2012 ford focus shut down with no warning it sort of scared me because didn't know why? i said ok maybe just a coinsidence but to my surprise. it happened again on freeway since thats my daily route was going 45mph and again turned off i took to get serviced since i drive from riverside to burbank everyday thought maybe needs to get serviced and mentioned to fellow a ford but said well if it happens again bring it in and will check it out so i said ok well hopefully not but it happend for 3rd time and i was going 70 mph and almost got in an accident thank god no one was next to me had to stop because it turned off completelty but this time said transmission on screen so i took it to ford and i explained everything to them because i'm scared i'm not gonna make it home to my family again because going at 70 mph on freeway and all of a sudden car shuts down imagine how scared i was..... the people at ford checked it out and took it for a drive on freeway and said it was fine nothing came up but hello it doesn't happen everyday they explained they checked other ford stores to see if they have heard of such problem and supposedly it hasn't but i'm reading some of these complaints and i see some are related so i need to find out wht to do because i honestly do not feel safe driving this car. just thinking when am i going to crash or die. not fair that they don't want to see the problem so what needs to happen for them to do something for me to die.... i don't even let my wife drive it because it is not safe..... *js
Purchased a new 2012 ford focus with automatic transmission in april, 2012. immediately experienced low speed transmission shifting problems and also discovered complete free roll backward, unending, until hitting level ground and/or hitting an object while rolling backwards on an incline, even while in gear. this is a serious safety and driver liability issue . dealership has re-programmed transmission on a technical service bulletin without success. dealership had me test drive another 2012 focus thinking it would not demonstrate the same safety problem...and to their surprise..the test drive vehicle they gave me also performed the same way on the free rollback while in gear. i believe the fundamental problem here is that ford has designed and manufactured in the 2012 focus line a standard/manual transmission (poorly shifted by software and dysfunctional on the free roll back issue) and is marketing it to all consumers as an automatic transmission. service department acknowledges that it truly is a standard/manual design. the window sticker and sales process misrepresents to the consumer that it is an automatic transmission. this may constitute consumer fraud on a national level leading to either class action litigation, total recall and/or individual cases of litigation. i am considering all of the above as the problem remains and has not been rectified. *tr

I purchased this vehicle on march 21, 2012 and first took it into the dealership april 4, 2012 because the transmission boggs for the startup 0 to approximately 20 mph. this created a safety hazard when pulling into oncoming traffic because the vehicle had no power, especially when in a stopped position. passing vehicles was unsafe if you were in the lower gears of the transmission due to lack of power. another safety hazard is that the vehicle drifts backwards when i take my foot off of the gas pedal, as if it was a standard shift transmission. this was especially dangerous on a hill or a grade . this vehicle also drifts backwards when you put your vehicle in park and release the brake pedal, causing danger to pedestrian or vehicles behind you. i have taken this vehicle back numerous times since i have owned it for the same types of problems with the transmission (now at various speeds) and drifting backwards. the dealership has made numerous adjustments and changes to the transmission, but to date this vehicle basically remains, in my opinion, a safety hazard. to date, ford company states that all of the above has a reason and states that it is "normal" for this new type of transmission. in my opinion, this transmission evolved to save gas, not lives. *tr
Poor shift quality 6 speed dual clutch automatic. *tr
About 1 month after purchase i began to experience transmission sluggishness, slow acceleration due to gear slipping, and sudden acceleration. not always, but more often than not. i chalked it up to the nature of the dtc as the dealer insisted that is how the trans works. after several more months i received a recall notice for trans problems. had trans reprogrammed. after about 3 months, all problems returned along with a grinding sound when in lower gears. took to dealer for regular 7500 mile check and spoke at length with technician. he has same car and stated that my clutch plates would need to be replaced along with some other hardware. unfortunately, trans tech was booked for the following week and a half. made appt at other dealer and after they checked the car, stated that all i needed was to have the trans reprogrammed, going so far as to tell me that the new programming would "learn" my driving style and adjust after a two week period. car seemed ok for a few months, and then all problems returned again. i took my car in for regular esp service this evening and asked for the trans to be looked at again. tech told me that they were booked for over 2 weeks for trans work, and 80% of that work is on the focus and fiesta models. tech also shared that as of 3/1/14, ford instructed all dealers to stop replacing the clutch plates and simply reprogram the trans. tech stated that this is due to the high cost of replacing the clutch plates; anywhere from $1800 - $2100. he also stated that internally, ford corporate has acknowledged that this trans is a failure. in order to get new clutch plates, tech stated that i needed to have trans reprogrammed and then drive for 2 weeks. then return to dealer for analysis. tech stated that ford will only replace clutch plate if slipping occurs at over 2100 rpm. fearful for safety as trans problems can occur at any time! *tr
Since day one of the purchase of my (march ) 2012 ford focus the steering "feels" like it is constantly wandering, after an hour drive time, your arm is give out from the stress. my car also seems to have a flutter in the transmission or engine during take off. the car will also roll back while stopped on an incline. the dealer checked steering the 4th day after purchase and assured me the steering was fine, that it was new & tight. i did recieve a recall on the transmission to upgrade or modify some type of chip. i cannot tell any improvment since the upgrade. my wife & son hate to drive my car because they are afraid of the steering and rolling back....by the way it is an automatic transmission---i have never experienced this on any vehicle that i have owned in the past. *tr
Within a month of purchase, the vehicle has been "shuddering" i have reported this to the dealership every time i sent it in for service and all they tell me is "it is normal, you have to get used to it. its the new transmission technology of ford." i cant believe that after 2yrs and 17k miles on it that it is still exhibiting the same problem and there has been no resolution to it. may i know until when am i going to wait? another problem that just came up- i have witnessed a loud sound coming from the speaker. seems like a thunder/cracking noise. my husband has heard it twice. it is a very loud sound. it scared me when i heard it the first time. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact was uncertain of the speed being driven when approaching a traffic stop signal. when the brake was applied the vehicle began to roll backwards for a few seconds. the failure occurred whenever at a complete stop. the manufacturer offered a customer satisfaction program regarding the unintended rolling issue. the vehicle was repaired and the failure recurred. the vehicle had not been diagnosed for the most recent failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while merging into traffic, the vehicle lunged forward without any warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer multiple times where the technician was unable to determine the cause of failure. the technician reprogrammed the power train control module as a safety precaution however, the remedy failed to repair the problem. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 2,493 and the current mileage was 10,000. updated 9/25/12 *cn updated 10/03/2012 *js
since i've owned the car, i've taken it back to the dealer more than twelve times. i bought it new and have problems with transmission slipping, jumping, lurching. i have been having these issues plus issues with the radio constantly resetting itself since the day i bought the car. the dealer claimed to me that the reason my car times backwards after coming to a stop was to save fuel, then there was a recall on the car to have the transmission reprogrammed to stop it. i had this done, but it still occurs with my car. *tr
My focus shutters while trying to move through first gear. before second gear engages, first gears feels as if it was slipping. i brought this to the attention of my dealer within the first month and they told me it needed to brake in. after bringing it in several times, they performed a 12b37 update, a full pcm re program and ended having to replace the entire gear box because a seal ruptured. all of this in three separate occasions this last attempt fixed it, but the problem returned. i issued ford a last attempt request and just picked up my car. the field supervisor states that he noticed the shuttering, but that it was normal for my vehicle. well, if the same issue persists and it was fixed last time by replacing seals and the gear box, how could this be normal for my car? i will be seeking legal assistance from this point forward and will be initiating a bbb autoline mediation request. *tr
I bought a 2012 ford focus sedan a couple weeks ago the next day i noticed slow jerky shuttering accerleration when at a complete stop then trying to acclerate. i did not think of anything was wrong until i researched it online finding similar complaints this is a problem and now the car is at the dealership and they currently have it. next there is a grinding noise while driving and turning sounds an example would be metal to metal on the brakes is the sound and last loose mirror when lifting the tab down to look at my daughter in the back seat the whole mirror goes down istead of slightly moving. *js
Ford has a serious problem with this transmission. it jerks and hesitates. several times i have almost been hit while pulling out into traffic when the car will suddenly jerk and hesitate. this transmission needs to be recalled and replaced. someone is eventually going to die because of this dual clutch transmission. every time we take it in they "reprogram" and now are replacing the clutch. i have driven others as rentals and they all hesitate to some degree. clearly there are issues and ford knows about it. the cars are not even being accepted for trade ins by many dealers (toyota and honda dealers locally would not take the care on trade in). *tr
On the drive home from the dealership, the day we purchased this car, we were stopping at a red light and it felt as though the road had some uneven surfaces. turns out that it was from the car, the transmission was shuttering as we came to a stop. i was concerned but we were late and could not go back to the dealer. well the car did it many times after that, sometimes on acceleration and other times while coming to a stop. it would not shift into first gear as i entered my driveway (it has a slight incline) and it would shutter all the way up. i took the car to the dealer and they ran an update from ford. this helped some, but it is still shifting funny and making a funny noise while shifting from first to second. it shifts way too soon and is generally in the wrong gear. if you need to accelerate to merge into traffic there is a huge delay. the car seems to wait way too long before going down into a gear that will allow this to not be unsafe! i took it back to the dealer for an unrelated repair was given a 2012 focus as a loaner, the loaner is perfect! it exhibits none of the problems my car does. this tells me this is not a normal issue. the car is still at the dealer, but i am sure the song and dance about my car is normal and my issues are normal are coming. i am not going to accept this explanation! i now know how this car should drive and mine is not driving normal. i researched this issue and there are many people dealing with this same problem.that means it is not just my car. i want ford to acknowledge that there is an issue and fix it. *tr
above said vehicles transmission considered to be a powershift transmission has issues of jerking at low speeds of 20 mph or upon acceleration. there is shimming and shuttering and the noise of what sounds like clanging metal parts. the jerking motion can be issue as the vehicle appears to lunge forward. ford replaced the bands and clutch assembly but this issue seems to still appear on occasion. ford advises vehicle is in normal specs and that this is the operation characteristics of this transmission. not happy with this vehicle since i purchased but what options do i have ?
My ford focus sel 2012 has been experiencing shuddering feelings when accelerating from stop. it feels as if the transmission is about to stall and then it kicks back up and jolts my cars back and forth for several seconds before resuming normal speed after 10 mph. these several seconds are vital when you are dealing with fast traffic in california or anywhere else for that matter. this created a delay in the acceleration time, almost causing an accident with oncoming traffic. i have contact several ford officials about this and they keep saying that it is normal and that there is a break in period. why was i not made aware of this when i purchased the car? this is a serious safety hazard and ford is just excusing it until my warranty period is up. two of my friends bought the same car and is experiencing the same issue. this is not an isolated incident and i would like to see proper action from ford to address this issue professionally. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus 5,800 miles. the contact stated that when stopped on a hill and having to release the brake the vehicle rolls back wards. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, and was told that it was natural for the vehicle to do that. they did not offer any other assistance.
Ongoing issue with the transmission, even after 3 "fixes" at a ford service center. transmission hesitates, jerks, and shudders in gears 1 through 3 primarily, sometimes hard enough to spill a drink. slow speeds and stop and go speeds result in horrible driving conditions as the jerks/shudders get worse. it feels unsafe to drive the vehicle. for example, i'll be preparing for a left turn across traffic (with more than enough time to take this turn), and the hesitation will be so bad that it's unclear if i'll make the left or get hit by oncoming traffic first. transmission has now moved on to a grinding sound, jerking motion, sounds as if something's getting stuck. each time i've taken the car into the shop, it runs well for a couple of weeks, and then starts the shaking and hesitating again. slowly the results come back, at first subtle so you don't think to rush to the shop to do something about it again (it costs money each time you have to take it), and come a couple months the car is back to heavy jerking and grinding. i feel extremely unsafe in the vehicle, it's unclear if i'll make it properly across traffic at times, or be able to make to destinations on log car rides. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact started the vehicle and the vehicle accelerated rapidly even with the brake pedal engaged. the vehicle failed to slow down and crashed into a cement wall. there were no personal injuries. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. in addition, the manufacturer issued a customer satisfaction program under reference number 123b7 (transmission control module) and after the recall repair was performed, the vehicle rolled away with the gear in park. in order for the vehicle to remain stationary, a block was placed against the two rear tires. also, a strong antifreeze odor emitted inside of the vehicle and an oil leak was visible on the ground. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 12,917. updated 08/23/12*lj updated 09/24/2012 *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving various speeds, the clutch was making an abnormal noise. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the clutch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 6,500, and the current mileage was 49,000.
I went to the ford dealership where i bought my car the first few weeks i had it. it rolls back when on an incline. the dealership says this is normal because the transmission is like that of a standard to tap the brake and it should stop rolling. it still does it on inclines am still not convinced that its "normal" for an automatic to do that, but if no recall for this problem at least other readers will be informed. *tr
Transmission malfunctions causing long delay/hesitation when shifting and slow/delayed acceleration. noticeable shuddering and vibration when shifting between gears and occasional hard, pronounced shift changes causing driver and passengers to lunge. this creates very dangerous driving conditions mainly because it's difficult to control the acceleration of the vehicle. the check engine light comes on and a warning message appears in the dash stating 'transmission malfunction service now' this event occurred the first week of vehicle ownership (i purchased the vehicle brand new january 2012). at that time the dealer recalibrated the transmission and it's been performing satisfactorily until recently. this event has now occurred on four other occasions with the most recent event occurring on 9/30/2014. the 9/30/2014 event was the most dangerous and severe so the vehicle is now at the dealership for service. *tr

I own a 2012 ford focus se that continues to display issues with the transmission. this includes delayed acceleration, jerking, and bucking. while i was driving on the freeway a couple of years ago the transmission control module failed resulting in the vehicle unable to shift properly. this endangered both my life and the lives of the other passengers in the vehicle. my ford focus has been in for service multiple times at different locations to include the dealership purchased from. the vehicle has been serviced both under the original warranty and the extended warranty and still displays issues with the transmission. i am having a hard time understanding why there is an extended warranty if even after i continue to explain what is happening with the vehicle the dealerships are not able to solve the problem. my concern is my safety and what ford motor company plans to do. you ask for a date as to when this happened but it has been ongoing since i purchased the car in 2012. i look forward to hearing something other than the same lines i have heard for the past 7 years regarding my vehicle.
While stopped behind red light all screen system, sync system, radio including sound system went black. did not start over till next day in the morning and as soon as start the car errors after error came up for nav system, phone connection. had to reset every thing. these errors are coming up every day. there will be risk of losing other system including air bag, power steering, break and other important system while this system going off. took the car to dealer and service trained specialist told me that is my phone problem!!! after long drive when trying to take off car is shaking, there is big safety issue with seat belt. while driving, if for any reason unlock the seat belt there will be no warning light or warning sound that seat belt is off. if car is running and leave the car when you are back and start driving there will be no warning light and sound that seat belt is not in use and can drive all you want. after long drive while trying to take off car is shaking. *tr
I've experienced shudder at take off, while pulling onto road transmission can't find gear leaves me in the middle of intersection, rpm spike and drop while shifting and a violent shudder at same time, chatter noise when shifting, list goes on.....after the fourth visit to another dealer parts fixed were clutch because it was being stripped, clutch slave, and a whole other list of parts. week later problem came back parts fixed were clutch, clutch forks, clutch motor and more. week later and sixth visit for same problems took the service manager for a ride. he experienced my problems and were now getting a field service tech on it. service manager also told me if i'm on a decline with the nose down and give it a little gas i will always get the shutter and it's stripping the clutch, that's a characteristic. also when the vehicle is shifting at higher speeds the rpm fluctuate and shutter is another characteristic the transmission is trying to find a gear. by no means was the service manager on the side of ford just stating what's these transmissions are doing. i have a case open with ford have written a letter inquiring about the buy back if i don't get the response i want i'm taking my case to court. talked to an attorney and that's my best case of action. just all around not a safe car. and the sad thing it's probably going to have to take a death or serious injury before ford motor company starts taking the consumer seriously. here's comes another explorer problem. *tr
While driving on i-8 toward san diego i heard a engine revving up then transmission downshift suddenly. engine lost a considerable amount of power/torque ever since. for example i can not accelerate in 6 gear @ highway speeds. shift times sometimes are more then 2 sec apart which presents an enormous risk when driving in any traffic. car has been to kearny ford for repairs multiple times since with neither ford nor dealer providing any fix and telling me that 'it's operating within normal limits'. i am driving a rental ford focus with approximately same mileage as my car now and it does not exhibit any of the issues i have. at this point i feel that my own safety and my family safety are being put at risk. i can not safely drive this car on anything but empty or almost empty roads. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while attempting to pull off the vehicle would hesitate and shake violently when the gears engaged. the contact mentioned that the vehicle stalled without any warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but stated that they would contact her at a later date. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 1,000 and the current mileage was 12,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle was not shifting into gears properly, would stall sporadically and would jerk intermittently. additionally, the steering wheel would often seize. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer several times who had not been able to replicate nor diagnose the failure. the failure recurred and the dealer replaced the transmission and transmission sensor but the failure recurred. the contact also mentioned that the lights intermittently illuminated and the radio was making a loud noise when it was powered off. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who then diagnosed that the computer chip in the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
I bought the 2012 ford focus sel on november 18th 2011 and first recall was jan 02 2012 they reprogrammed the transmission and there was a 2nd recall and the reprogrammed the transmission again but im still having hesitation on startups and loses power as well but hasn't stalled yet but i thought few times it will stall out but it didn't. i hope ford can fix the hesitation of this vehicle but if not then i will never buy a ford again. also the suspension is very hard on bumps. feels like there is no shocks on the car. very disappointed on my front windshield. cracked when i only had 15,000 miles on the car. *tr
I have experienced several potentially fatal occurrences related to left foot braking and the brake over throttle override software installed in my 2012 ford focus. when braking with the left foot and in a turn while feathering the throttle with the right foot, the automatic transmission shifts into neutral, the engine continues to rev without going into any gear. this condition has occurred no less than 22 times. the first incident happened while making a right hand turn but the next was a left hand turn. although the second incident occurred crossing one lane of traffic, i would not like this condition to occur crossing 2 or 3 lanes of traffic and becoming a fatality. i am not the only person in the world who brakes using the left foot. now that i know what is causing this issue, i can duplicate it even braking at any speed and in a straight line. car has been to ford and had flashes of the computer installed with no change. ford is aware of this problem through emails from the service manager at my dealership. this condition can result in a serious and potentially fatal accident. this fix for the so called toyota floor mat problem has created an even more serious safety issue caused by of all things braking with the left foot. at the least , i should have the option to override the brake over throttle portion of the software by turning it off. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the transmission began to hesitate in a jerking motion and the vehicle stalled. the engine restarted and the vehicle was able to resume. in addition, on a separate occassion the transmission warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel for a few seconds. the failures occurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer eight times for the same malfunction. a diagnosis was performed in which a trouble code was not detected. the computer system, abs, and drive train were reprogrammed more than one time. the failure persisted and the dealer was unable to resolve the problem. the manufacturer and dealer stated that the vehicle functioned as designed. the approximate failure mileage was 350.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle would lunge forward while changing gears. also, while the contact attempted to accelerate with the vehicle in drive, the vheicle accelerated in reverse instead. the dealer was notified and diagnosed a leak in the transmission. the dealer repaired the failure but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 10 and the current mileage was 3,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while traveling approximately 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly shifted into neutral. the contact also mentioned that the vehicle shook violently, began to function normally, then shifted into neutral again. the contact also stated that the failure was experienced multiple times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the transmission control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 300.

Car has serious lag issues you give it gas and the transmission just doesn't go. really bad when you have to get out of the way in a hurry. they have worked on it and say it's fine. unfortunately i am a woman and tend to be brushed off. i do know there is something wrong with the car. *tr
My ford focus was purchased in june 2011 the vehicle was new off the dealer lot, to date the vehicle has been in for power train repair for a total of seven times. the fifth time back in june 2013, the power train internal parts were replace, the problem still continues. my vehicle again went in for repair on january 29, 2015 as the transmission over heated and i received a warning to stop the car. the car was in the shop for almost two weeks, i picked the car up on thursday after work, the next day the car lost the ability to pull the vehicle and i barely got off the road. i could not get the car to go over ten miles an hour. the dealership sent a tow truck for my car and back to the shop it went. after two weeks i got a call that there were no issues found and the dealership could not pay a tech to drive the vehicle more than 20 miles. i insisted there was an issue and that i fear for my life driving this car now. the dealership got permission from me to allow the tech to driver the vehicle home to see if the car acted up for him on a longer distance drive 2/19/2015. on 2/20/2015 i received a call that the tech had in fact got stranded on the hwy on 2-19-2015 and now they must attempt to locate the issue. the dealership is trying their best to find the problem but ford needs to do something. this car is not safe, i fear for my life driving this car. i have to drive on the interstate every day to and from work and i am afraid. i fear having to drive with my child in this car. had i been driving this car home yesterday i very well could have been run over by a tractor trailer or caused a major hwy accident. these cars are not safe, how many people have to die before something is done. *tr
