We have classified the 1052 complaints from 2012 Ford Focus about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle was unable to shift. the contact stated that the automatic transmission was performing as if it were a manual transmission. in addition, when the contact would shift from reverse the drive, the transmission would omit first gear and engage into second gear erroneously. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the mechanic stated that the failure was contributed to the manner in which the contact was operating the vehicle. the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 300 and the current mileage was 17,000. updated 12/20/13*cn
Purchased vehicle in june 9th 2012, after a week of driving i noticed a vibration when the car was shifting from a dead stop to second or even sometimes into third gear and reported this to bill knight ford. service manager went with myself and wife for a test drive and said this was normal and if it persisted bring it back and they would try and resolved the problem. we took this back time and time again and was told ford was working on this problem, finally i insisted that this problem be repaired. i took my car in and bill knight replaced the clutch and this resolved the problem for about a month, when the problem came back it was much worse and it effected my gas mileage and the vibration turned into a heavy shutter at times. my wife started getting headaches and with her having surgery on her neck i started wondering if the ford focus was giving her the problem. i suggested this to the service advisor and he just did not even write this down. my wife has had 2 epidural since the first repair and i have talked with the service manager and sales manager about this problem. the sales manager wants me to trade the car in but i think this car should be repaired with a new warranty on the drive train or i be given a new car to replace the defected one. ford should also pay for any and all of my wife's medical bills including pain and suffering, and my lost time from work while she was incapacitated. i really think bill knight ford should be put on notice for selling cars that they had prior knowledge that were defective.
Three weeks after buying my brand new 2012 ford focus, the car began to hesitate on the highway. i complained to the dealer who said it was a ford problem and not theirs. the following month, i almost died in the car. a regional manager from ford came to the dealership to speak with me, resolved nothing. i followed lemon law protocol and documented everything through the service dept. more than 12 visits. four visits before the near fatal crash and the remainder afterwards. ford ran out the statute of limitations on my vehicle so they did not have to pay me. the vehicle has a propensity of turning off when accelerating to 65 mph. when making a turn or u-turn the car hesitates. ford admitted to manufacturer defect and still would not put me in my original position which has left me with disc displacements beneath my brain stem. i have chronic neck pain every day of my life. i was making a left hand turn and had plenty of time to turn. a white utility van flew out of the lane to try to beat the light as i was turning. the car turned off and i had to brace for impact. the car would not start. two additional malfunctions caused the car to veer left and crash into curbs. last week, i had to make a u-turn. i had plenty of time. while turning, the car hesitated, and the car was stopping, the way it did in 2012. i was almost killed by an 18-wheeler who thought i was initiating road rage. he then followed me and ran me off the road coming one inch to the side of my vehicle. i tried to take pictures, but my hand was trembling. ford needs to replace my vehicle at the replacement value from july of 2012 and obey the va lemon law statute. ford offered me a buy out of $8,000 in december 2018. i had to lay out $14,000 for a new vehicle. they should have credited all of my car payments $17k, and provided a settlement for permanent spine and neck injuries. accountability is demanded.
The trunk lid is out of alignment the vehicle shudders at acceleration major suspension work required do to engineering and production engine shudders and clunks when shutting off rough idle and engine misses. problems are inconsistent . *tr
Transmission shudder. car acts like it is going to stall. ford , the dealer are all aware of the problem with the transmission. since it is a intermittent problem on this car nobody wants to fix it. am being told nothing wrong. the part exists to fix just will not do . without recall. *tr
Transmission slips / loss of power. sometimes from a dead stop and other times at highway speeds and loss of power when the accelerator is floored and needed for passing at speed. this has been an issue since the car was purchased new and its not going back to the dealer for the 3rd time on 6/30/2014 to have the transmission looks at again. its had two prior transmission repairs and its now failing the same way again. if a transmission is unable to provide power reliably when needed its going to get someone killed as a result. *tr
My car has transmission problems. every single time i start and stop the car shudders and hesitates. the car is unsafe to drive. also the car's cruise control broke within 3 months of owning the car, it was fixed and then broke again a month later. and hasn't worked in 2 years. this car is junk. i have taken it to three different ford dealerships and they refused to fix the problem. they would tell me there was nothing wrong with the transmission it was the way i drive. every time i took it in for the cruise control ford would tell me that they were unable to fix the problem because the cruise was working that day, when it never worked for me. they refused to fix the problems and i finally ran out of a warranty and gave up. i don't have the money to pay to have this car fixed when i bought a brand new car i college to not have to worry about getting work done to a car. this has been the biggest disappointment and i just want them to be recalled. ford owes it to all the customers that are currently stuck with this car and paying big money for a car that doesn't work. i don't not feel safe allowing my family in the car because it is too dangerous to drive. it stresses me out on a daily basis having to drive this car and never knowing when it's going to stop working. i have been having there problems since i bought the car in july of 2012.
when accelerating car jumps or hops violently. engine makes grinding/chattering noise when changing gears. experience roll back when on a slight incline. power shift 6 speed is not safe. have trouble crossing lanes of traffic for the jumping/launch judder problem. *tr
Intermittently when accelerating the transmission feels like it is stalling out, shakes vigorously, and shifts rough. in those times the unpredictability of this transmission makes the car very dangerous to drive. *tr
Vehicle vibrates when trying to accelarate from a complete stop. hesitates and does not want to accelarate. appears to not want to shift gears. does the same thing at low speeds as well. *tr
This car has had transmission problems with the dual clutch automatic transmission it will shudder when changing gears, rollback, come close to stalling. i took the car in to be "reprogrammed" back in june of 2012 it drove okay with only minor hiccups with transmission until october 20, 2013. the car has less than 22,000 miles on it and the car is now not shifting properly. i put the car in drive and it was like i was still in neutral, once it did get going then it did not shift into 2nd gear properly. the car is not safe to drive. i will be taking back to dealership once again to reprogram hopefully at no charge. this car is a lemon and needs to be on a mandatory recall. *tr
We bought our car with only 7 miles on it. shortly after the car started rolling backwards when sitting on a hill or stop light. called the dealership and they stated to bring it in. well it was explained to us that the car had a standard transmission and that this was normal. so we left. then i was sitting in the driveway and our grandchild got out of the car when i put the car into park and it rolled backwards knocking him over. called them again, got the same answer. then the car started to stay running after the key was taken out. also it was not running well . this was just 2 months later. took it back got the same answer. well called the owner with no response. we have since then taken the car back for the same issue and still get the same answers. now there is a new problem, always finding oil on the motor. so took it back in and they explained to me that someone was driving the car with two feet. that's why the transmission was still skipping. well i am the only driver of the car and i only use my right foot. they said they put a die into the oil to see where the leak was coming from and when i went another 1000 miles to bring the car back. then i get a call from them and had an appointment. they put new bolts in our valve cover and cleaned all the oil up. here it is we have had the car over a year and still are having such trouble with it. so i hope that hopefully soon that this dealership makes good on this car. just went again this last month for the 12th time and still getting the same answer. but i do not have a standard car, i have an automatic. *js
Purchased vehicle in june 2012 and transmission has been shaky, slipping, stuttering, jerking, stalling on acceleration, overheating, rolling back on hills, no acceleration on hills, and grinding ever since. had clutch seal replaced within a couple of months from purchase which they claimed caused the problem. problem persisted but they told me to give it time to adjust to the repair. i took it back in at 11,000 and they replaced one of the clutches. problem persisted only then the car's system indicated the transmission was overheating (while i was on the highway) and indicated on the console that i needed to wait until the car cooled down. the temp on the car was in normal range. i was 3 hours from home with small children in the car and left on the side of a major highway because my car's system said the tranny was overheating. took it to the dealer again and they said it was a glitch; no concern necessary. i complained again about the jerking in the transmission and they said i needed to give the car some time to adjust to the repair at 11,000. at 24, 000, i was fed up from waiting and took the car in again only to be told that i needed the entire clutch assembly replaced but they were on back-order. contacted ford for a buy back and they said "no, that's how the car drives - it's normal" car is now at 50,000 with same problems. currently working with an attorney on a suit against ford. *tr
My husband and i purchased our 2012 ford focus back in june 2012. when we got the car there was 28,000 miles on it. the next day it was in their shop due to the transmission. it felt like it was not trying to switch gears causing our rpms to go real high. the mechanics said nothings wrong because no lights were on. so months pass it was right back in for the same thing. well they said they put a fuel throttle box on it and it should fix the problem. so after they "fixed" the car , we still noticed something wasn't right, so we continued to drive the car. our engine light kept popping up so we took it to the car lot once again and they said it could possibly be an emissions problem. well just a few weeks ago, i noticed the car was acting real funny, it didn't want to go into drive, and kept stalling. so on my way home i got on the interstate, and the car lost all power (luckily i was on my exit ramp). it said transmission malfunction, so i pulled over, and turned the car off. when i got the car to start again when in drive it wanted to go in reverse. had to turn it off then restart but the car wouldn't even turn over. this is a big issue that ford needs to fix. if i wouldn't have been on my exit ramp i may not be here typing this right now. i refuse to drive this car. it is not safe !!! i have two small kids and they will not be back in that car !! we have had issues with this car every since we got it. *tr
New car ...... this has happened 3 times since date of purchase 5/31/12 .......... from a stopped position and accelerating to go forward the car would jerk forward, hesitate as if stalling ....... last time it stopped dead in the middle of the intersection .............. told by ford tech this is do to the transmission being controlled by computer chips ............ car is going in for service today. *tr
After three months of the purchase of the vehicle i started experiencing some shuttering/noise/stalling of the transmission. i took it into my dealership and they "reflashed". it was fine for a few months, then it started again. took it in again and it got "reflashed" again. the third time they did something with the module box. after the fourth time, they replaced the clutch on the transmission. now i had to take it back in again because of the same issue. i have contacted ford and assured me that it would be fixed. so it has been in the shop 5 times for the same issue. i have complained to ford about the issue and the concerns of myself and my family. i have serious issues when the car stalls between gears especially when i am crossing a busy intersection and cross traffic doesn't stop. i even tried seeing about trading it in and got well less then kbb value because of "issues". so i am stuck with a vehicle that i can't trade in without losing alot of money and it can't seem to get fixed. *tr
The vehicle was parked. i started it up and backed out of the parking space. i shifted into drive and began moving forward. after going approximately 20 feet the "i" sign illuminated on the instrument panel and the message "steering malfunction, needs service" came on, along with the alarm jingle. i tried to steer the car out of the middle of the drive lane and managed to get it over to the side, but the steering was practically frozen. i turned off the ignition and looked for any obvious signs of trouble, but could find none. after reading through the owner's manual and checking the engine compartment, i restarted the car (about 20 minutes after i shut it off) and no warning sign came on. i test drove it in the parking lot for a minute to see if the steering would function properly and then drove home and experienced no further problems. i took it to the ford autoway dealership for inspection and they diagnosed the problem as stemming from an abs "corrupted" program. they told me the epas gets it power through the abs. they rebooted the abs program and i've had no further problems. *tr
2012 ford focus. consumer writes in regards to vehicle manual transmission stalling and loosing power when approaching an incline and when driving in stop and go traffic. *smd the consumer stated there were noises coming from the door panels, and dash area. also, there was a vibration at the top of the seat belt areas and center console.
On-going problems with the transmission. the first incident occurred approximately one month after purchase. i took it to the dealer and they told me that the shuddering/shifting problems that i was experiencing were "normal" and that the vehicle needed an adjustment period. i was told that it would smooth out once it got used to my driving pattern. the problem continued until it got so bad that i took it back in december 2013 and the transmission required repair. it went back to the dealership in may of 2014 for the same problem and the dealership had to replace the clutch assembly and several seals. the vehicle shudders badly, on take off, and has bogged down to the point that i was nearly rear-ended, i have also experienced problems with rollback on hills and problems when trying to accelerate uphill. *tr
Jerky transmission, car bucking not wanting to shift, slips into neutral and just revs, no start problems, service engine soon lights up, transmission overheat warning , transmission malfunction warning..tcm reprogrammed several times, transmission supposedly rebuilt (took appox. 6 weeks to get car back), control module replaced a couple of times.. after having a few days after repairs, service engine soon comes back on , no start problems occur again, transmission starts slipping again. brought back to dealer on several occasions when they plugged into computer and no issues showed up. last incident was 9/15/15 where module was replaced, picked car up on 9/17/15 and on 9/18/15 no start problem and service engine soon light back on and car is bucking.
I in june 2012 i took the car in to complain that it was stalling, jerking and shuddering. it appeared that the problem was fixed until several months later when it began to stall, jerk and shudder again. i have since taken the car in 2013 and 2014 complaining that the car continued to act the same way. i received a letter from ford in may 2012 advising that we may experience rough or jerky automatic transmission shifts and that they had a "fix." i again received a letter in august 2014 advising that they are aware that it may be possible for the powershift 6-speed automatic transmission to exhibit excessive transmission clutch shudder during light acceleration and it may be caused by fluid contamination of the clutch due to leaking transmission seals. the letter states that if the vehicle's clutch, transmission input shaft seals, or transmission software calibration require service or replacement they will service the transmission as necessary free of charge. when i took the vehicle to my local ford dealership i was advised that it may be a simple update to the computer software. this problem has been ongoing since a year after i bought the car and i feel very unsafe, as it tries to stall when parked at a light or when i'm driving at low speeds, such as when i am moving through a four way stop sign. i feel that one day i may have an accident because the car will not take off and the car behind me will rear end me; or, worse, it may accelerate too quickly causing me to hit the car in front of me or a barrier. *tr
The rolling back problem came first. when you are stopped on any incline, between taking your foot off of the brake and placing it on the accelerator, the car rolls back quite quickly, and i have almost hit the car behind me. the steering problems came a little later. the steering requires both hands at all times, and even then it is quite shaky. i feel car sick when i am the passenger because there is so much side to side movement. during turns, the engine feels like it is cutting out, it loses so much power, and i have to push the accelerator extremely hard just to get enough power to finish the turn. the scariest of all of the problems happens at higher speeds. it has happened to me three times. when i am driving on the freeway (60-70mph) and i begin to slow down, the steering gets out of control and goes back and forth so rapidly, i hold on for dear life trying to keep it in the lane, and the braking is not as efficient as it should be when this happens, and i have nearly escaped hitting the car in front of me. when i have been in this situation, i have started to brake right when i see the brake lights ahead, and i have had ample space to stop gradually and safely if i were driving a normal car, but in this car, it is out of control and the brakes won't work well when this is happening. this has happened on dry roads. this car terrifies me and the rain and ice haven't even hit yet. after i experienced these problems, i looked on the internet and was surprised to see how many others are having them too. the shop had my car for 13 days and they called me and said that it is "perfect" and they didn't fix anything and to come pick it up. i bought this car in june, it is now september, it had 1074 miles when i took it to the shop. i left it there for now, i am terrified of this car and unfortunately i own it. *tr ..updated 09-26-12 *bf updated 10/01/2012 *js
Have had issues with this car since after purchasing it new on 12/31/11. 06/08/12, 7148k mi, car shifting at incorrect times, car would jerk when shifting, and roll back at times on flat surfaces and at traffic stops. also car would shutter. service repair, open recall pcm for incorrect shift/jerking. 10/16/12-10/17/12, 10437k mi, car would make a grinding noise, noticed mostly when turning, but not always only when turning. sometimes car seems like it was a manual snubbing out. also the mpg indicator would not fluctuate and stayed at 29.9mpg, had been stuck at 29.9 mpg for a few months. service repair = replace both front springs and bearings. 11/05/12-11/07/12, 10950k mi, last repair did not fix the grinding noise. makes this grinding noise also when taking off from a stop. when shifting from 1st to 2nd gears. service technician said they could hear it sometimes, but could not figure out what the problem was and instructed me to keep driving the car until it made the noise enough for them to determine the problem. 05/15/13-05/17/13, 13514k mi, car would have trouble accelerating, was jerking when taking off from stops, made grinding noises when shifting gears. 06/12/13, 14103k mi, since clutch replaced car rolls back, on a flat surface and my car almost rolled into the car behind me. 07/17/13-07/18/13, 16007k mi, when car shifts gears it is jerking really badly, causing passengers upper body to jerk forward away from their seat. shuttering and the car makes a bad grinding noise when shifting. one instance i was accelerating from a stop, and got half way through first gear and the car stopped accelerating. car accelerating behind me almost rear-ended my car. 7/18/2013, 16043k mi, shuttering still there. as i eased off the accelerator to merge into traffic, the car continued to accelerate for several seconds after removing my foot from the accelerator. safety issue! *tr
From the day purchased, transmission shudders while driving, going up a hill or taking off. took to dealer and they said that's normal.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while accelerating from a traffic light, the vehicle hesitated and then the speed greatly increased on its own. the dealer stated that the clutches in the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 24,000.
When accelerating, whether from a dead stop or coasting, 1st, 2nd (& now starting to do it in 3rd) gears audibly rattle and clunk. very slow response time when accelerating after car is "warmed up." the more it is driven in stop and go and/or city traffic, the worse the acceleration (and rattling when shifting) becomes. so much so that when trying to pull out into traffic on 09/04/12 i thought the car would be hit. i had 3 kids in the car with me! and i always allow plenty of time to pull out because of this issue. it has been a near constant issue with this car which was purchased in may 2011. car jerks when accelerating in stop and go traffic and will sometimes "jump" and rev into a higher speed. all the above issues had been addressed and "fixed" twice before the "customer satisfaction" recalls were sent out in may. issues are resolved for a limited amount of time and then start happening again. car still rolling back when brake is released at a stop on slight inclines. another "customer satisfaction" recall. minor issues: *can barely be heard when speaking on the "sync" system while driving *clock changes time randomly *rear defroster doesn't automatically turn off *fan speed changes after car is turned off to a random speed setting *radio will change to a random station *sometimes* after making a phone call. *tr
Was told this car had "automatic transmission". after a few hundred miles on it, i noticed the transmission shifted sporadically and with no prediction. engine shuddered, car lost power and was not safe to drive. the key here is no prediction as to how the car will react when under acceleration. took to dealer and was told "this isn't an automatic transmission - it's a computer- controlled manual that has to learn how you drive". dealer uploaded a computer update from ford. the next hundred miles of driving almost caused numerous accidents due to lack of acceleration and uneven performance. 6/4/2012 i tried to merge into traffic and car refused to speed up. i almost caused a major accident, but numerous drivers slammed on their brakes and/or swerved and averted multiple collisions. took the car to dealer 6/5/2012 and told them what happened. was told by head tech "it just has to get used to how you drive". i told him there were three different people driving this focus. he said we can't, because that would just end up totally "confusing" the computer. as the car is too dangerous to drive, it is still at the dealer. miles on vehicle are under 800.
The transmission does not always provide power when it's needed. it lurches, lags, shakes, rattles and (usually) rolls. this car is simply unsafe.
The transmission shudders when shifting at low speeds. also shudders when starting from a dead stop. reported to the dealer several times but the problem persists. dealer said that the transmission learns your driving habits. they disconnected the battery for a period of time and that seemed to correct the problem temporarily then it returns to the shuddering.
I recently purchased a 2012 ford focus in may. i took the vehicle back to the ford dealership, to report a problem. however, the first thing the repair person did was give me a print out of what the car does. this car has no power, it shakes, and will not go,. i feel that car is trying to stall out. it is worst than my old 1998 ford contour. it rides better than this car and it is 14 years old. i am very concern about my safety with the car. in addition, everyone else and including myself, which is embarrassing, notices that this car does not change gears. it appears that it is stuck in one gear at the speed of 60 mph. i am very disappointed and afraid that this car may cause me to get into a car accident. i need help. what should i do? in addition, the warranty on this car is 60,000 miles or 5 years, which every comes first. *tr
I have had numerous issues with transmission and electrical problems with my vehicle. i have had it in for service about 6 times in the past year. car shifts hard, when driving, sputters, and even once stalled out in the middle of a intersection. i had these issues from day one with the vehicle but was told the cars computer has to "learn" how you drive. electrical, the locks sometimes works, or the doors lock when they aren't supposed to. key fob doesn't work sometimes. this is something that is ridiculous and ford motor co. should do something about it. my car has 27500 miles on it and runs like it is 15 years old! my warranty is up at 36000, so then all these issues become the consumer problem even though ford is aware this is an issue they are having and won't recall until someone gets hurt or killed. *tr
I bought the car brand new (12 miles on it) and from the beginning it would make weird noises when i would take off or accelerate. i took it back to the dealership and they drove it and also heard the noise but said they could not find the cause and not to worry about it unless it got worse. i took the car back when it got worse and left it for an entire day but they did not have time to look at him. the car then started shaking and stalling out when i took off from lights and when going up hill. i took the car back and they had it for a week and said they had to take the transmission out and work on it and it should be fine. they said they are fully expecting ford to recall the transmissions. my transmission is now overheating when i am in slow traffic. it also rolls backward when i am stopped on an incline and accelerate to go forward. i have been looking online and this appears to be a major problem that is going to end up getting people hurt! *tr
Having problems with steering assist.it locks up staring will.and turn off vehicle sensor warning goes away dry for a while sensor warning comes back locks up staring will. i have not droving on the highway . it will lock up still can't find a recall one this problem it comes up when i drive
I just bought a brand new 2012 ford focus and i noticed shudder or vibration when starting to drive. i looked at the internet and found a this a common complaint among ford focus owners. please help us in compeling ford to do something about this. *tr
On may 25, 2012, computer in car was reprogrammed per recall 12b37b.6 and repaired per recall 12s29c.6. i had noticed that the transmission was not as smooth as it was when i first purchased the car the year before. after this, things really began to go downhill. now the transmission is a total train wreck. the car rolls back on inclines. the first time this happened i almost hit the car behind me. the transmission grinds and shudders in low gears, especially when turning and slowing down or when starting out and trying to accelerate. on more than one occasion, i have pressed the pedal down to accelerate and gotten nothing. the car won't go. going up hill the car jerks and shudders as though it is about to shut down, like when you don't have the clutch and the gas at the right place. at these times, the car will drive like a twenty year old jalopy. all in all, i have taken the car in three times to have work done on the transmission, and each time it seems to be better for a few hours and then gradually get worse than it was before. the problem seems to be getting gradually worse. i know that i am not the only one having the problem with the 2012 ford focus. *tr
7/28/15 while on highway and driving in fast lane, car loses ability to accelerate creating very dangerous situation. can not accelerate in order to move into safer lane. manages to get off roda and drive slowly to repair shop. car shudders and nearly stalls. check engine light on but not blinking. repair shop gets transmission code p090c. car is towed following morning and repair shop checks again and finds same code and check engine light still on. 7/30/15 customer speaks to service dept manager named john explaining all of the above. agrees car is unsafe and when asked if he would let his daughter drive it, he replies no. still won't repair car based on code provided but agrees that is the likely cause. customer offers to pay for repair even though vehicle is under powertrain warranty based on letter sent out by ford and he refuses saying he doesn't want to guess and offers to keep car but still can't recreate problem. implies that code was cleared and history erased by "someone". customer says maybe that someone just might be the dealer's own mechanic trying to avoid repair since they have so many cars with transmission issues. customer explains that dealer theory on erasure of codes is suspect since repair shop retained code info, and towed car. asked why would they do that if the check engine light wasn't on and why would the repair shop erase it. more likely lazy tech at dealer did it. dealer still wants to play wait and see. it could take thousands of miles before issue reappears and dealer has no reply as to what customer is to do. customer escalates issue to ford corporate and as of now still no repair, car at dealer and unsafe to drive.
I bought the 2012 focus around february of 2012. at first i was estatic and the car ran great. however, just a few months after i bought it the car started griding at low speeds had a lot of trouble going up a hill to the point it wants to stall. at one point i did get up the hill, but the car didn't seem to recover and about 2 minutes later the car did stall driving about 30 mph and we had to glide it through traffic and into a parking lot. the car would not drive for at least 15 minutes, and the check engine light came on. by the time i got it to the dealership the light had gone off, and they told me they couldn't "duplicate the issue", and that if the light had went off there wasn't anything they would be able to find. the grinding noises continued, and i complained everytime i brought it in for an oil change. it also started acting lethargic when making turns (specifically left turns). the car was brought into the dealership at least two more times over the same issue, had a reprogramming done, and it still continued to make noises, jerk, grind, shift widly, etc. around may of this year (2014) i was stopped on a steep hill and the car started rolling backwards. at first it seemed normal because i applied the brake, but when i moved to the gas the car started rolling backwards in drive and would not stop until i applied the brake again. i almost hit the person in back of me. i insisted ford fix the issue, and after having the car for almost a week they again said they couldn't duplicate the problem. the same issue happened two weeks later and i received the same answer. i have left messages for the manager over the whole dealer, and he won't return my calls. i am about to take the car back again since i only have around 300 miles of my warranty left, and the car has been having many issues lately. and then i'm going to call a lawyer and the news. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that she received notification of a manufacturer's recall to reprogram the computer in the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who reprogrammed the pcm, tcm and abs on may 21, 2012. the contact stated that the transmission had caused the vehicle to run roughly with a jerking motion following the repairs. in addition, the vehicle would roll backward when stopped on an incline. the vehicle had not been taken back to the dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the failure mileage was 3,549. updated 07/05/12*lj the consumer stated the vehicle was returned to the dealer on june 5, 2012 for the same problem. updated 07/09/12 the consumer stated the manufacturer extended the warranty. *js

I am an owner of 2012 ford focus. my car rolls back every time i took my foot off the brake on a hill. it rolls so fast! it's really unsafe and scary; especially i have my 4 year old daughter riding at the back seat. i went to the dealership last month but the issue was never solved. the service man told me that it is normal for the car with automatic transmission to roll back when you're up the hill. i never had this kind of issue with my other cars before. i hope ford will do a recall for all 2012 focus. *tr
Car is shuddering, vibrating, rolling backwards on inclines, stuttering bad gas mileage at low speeds between 0 and 20 miles per hour. the car has been in 4 times to the dealer beginning on 5/3/12 through 11/14/13 it has been reprogrammed 3 times and a new transmission replaced it which has solved the problem temporarily but starts happening again. when driving in or pulling out into traffic because the car either hesitates so bad or just wont move for a few seconds. needless to say there have been many close calls. the dealer has been proactive in working with me however this is not a dealer issue this is a manufacturers issues. *tr
I bought my car brand new and have had problems with the transmission within a month of driving it. the first time i took it in they reprogrammed the powertrain to fix shuddering and rollback as well as fixed the nameplate that fell off my car. the transmission seemed to shudder way more than before after this. the second time i took it in they repaired a leaky seal and reprogramed the powertrain control module. since then it still rolls back on slight inclines but not as much. also, my car still makes loud grinding sounds as well as shudders and hesitates at low speeds. i'm going to bring it in for a third time, because of the excessive shuddering, hesitation and is leaking transmission oil. besides the transmission problems the quality of my car seems to be an issue as well, as water seems to collect inside the doors after it rains. this is very frustrating as this is my first brand new car and my first time buying a ford.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, a metal to metal rattling noise emitted outside of the vehicle. the transmission slipped gears and the vehicle began to vibrate with hesitation. the failure occurred sporadically when shifting into second gear. additionally, when the brake pedal was depressed when driving on an incline the vehicle would roll. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer twice where each time the computer module was reprogrammed. the vehicle was not repaired for the most recent failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 14,000.
In may of 2012 my car had the transmission completely replaced after being in the shop for 6 weeks. the cruise control would stick on and not shut off. the power windows and air conditioner both decided not work at the same time. i have had the struts replaces before 10,000 miles. the gas mileage goes from 14 mpg to 33mpg randomly. the car likes to roll back and not go into gear when driving. i replace tires every 6 months because the car eats my tires up. my favorite problem is loosing power when driving. i have kept all papers regarding the car in the shop. my first year of owning the focus ford paid for my rental car to be driven 17,000 miles due to my car being in the shop. i have asked for help with this car for 2 years with ford to be told i need to learn to drive. i am driving a car know that completely looses power all the time and the transmission sticks. i have had to wait 3 weeks for an appointment on nov 3 to get these issues looked at. my car is far from safe and i have expressed to ford i feel this car is going to kill me. i spent 30,000 miles driving this car when in fact i shouldn't had. the dealership can never find a problem on my car. the gas also can only put 10 cents of gas at a time in or gas likes to pour out from the bottom. sometimes the gas knozzle can't fit in the gas tank because it closes up. once again ford couldn't find a problem. i call the dealership and ford customer care each time there is a problem. *tr

Transmission shifts erratically. will not down shift when needed causing loss of control of the car. car will also roll back when you stop if on a slight incline. there is a voluntary recall by ford for this problem, however the remedies do not work. i have already had these remedies performed on my car over a year ago. the problems still exist. i expressed my concerns regarding these transmission problems over a year ago but ford has taken the stance as to ignore them. ford had prior knowledge of these problems and other problems on these cars before they were even introduced to the public. ford chose to put sales before consumer safety. this transmission problem is a serious safety issue, what is it going to take for the nhtsa for them to make this a involuntary safety recall, people getting killed? i do not feel safe driving this car neither should anyone else who owns this car. *tr
2012 ford focus. consumer writes in regards to engine, transmission, drive shaft and electrical system problems. *tgw the consumer stated the vehicle would jerk forward, hesitate and would not go into gear fast enough when changing lanes. the right passenger power window was slower that the driver's side, the door locks would not open properly. updated 05/25/12
On-going problems with the transmission. the first incident occurred approximately one month after purchase. i took it to the dealer and they told me that the shuddering/shifting problems that i was experiencing were "normal" and that the vehicle needed an adjustment period. i was told that it would smooth out once it got used to my driving pattern. the problem continued and i took it back several times to the dealership. each time i was told that the car needed to get used to my acceleration. during one of the visits the dealer did replace the clutch assembly and several seals. the vehicle shudders badly, on take off, and has bogged down to the point that i feel unsafe in the vehicle. i am completely disappointed in this vehicle. *tr
Vehicle rolls back after i begin to accelerate when i am stopped at a red light. i did receive a recall notice that had this type of problem listed. vehicle had about 4700 miles on it. i took it in and they claimed that they fixed it but it could take up to 6 months for the "adjustment" to take place. this did not sound reasonable to me but they would not do anything further. this is definitely a safety issue when you are stopped in traffic. *tr
Transmission shudder. rebuilt 3 times. software reset 5 times. transmission computer replaced 1x. still shudders, drifts back when on a hill, jerks into gear suddenly. service station advised me when they replaced the computer (not under warranty) that the shudder and other characteristics were normal for the transmission and did not do anything about it. this began when i purchase the car in spring of 2012 and is still an issue now at about 82,0000 miles. most of the work was done while under the normal warranty. the last service, when they replaced the computer was done in september 2014. the transmission is not operating normally and seems dangerous at times when it jerks into gear or rolls back when at a stop. *tr
