We have classified the 1052 complaints from 2012 Ford Focus about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Without warning, (no lights on dash-board - no unusual noises - no problems starting etc), there were no gears and i was left in neutral. it required coming to a stop, putting it into park and starting again to limp along to get to a safe point to park the car and call for help. luckily i was not yet onto the freeway! the ford dealership mechanic was able to replicate these circumstances and he too found himself without gears; he was on the freeway on-ramp and was lucky to not be hit. i can only imagine how dangerous this is if you are in 4 lanes of traffic going 60 mph!!! notwithstanding the severity of this "module" defect, the problem according to ford does not come under the 'transmission recall' and my car is 3,500 miles over the magical 60,000 power-train recall. i am stuck with a $1,500 bill and the fear that it might happen again; if not to me, someone else with this model/year focus. *tr
Car stutters and does not shift. severe shaking and loss of cruise speed is effected. the car does not accelerate properly and seems to lose speed while driving. i am scared to let my daughter drive this car and only have owning it for several months it has been in the shop once and going back again. there is no apparent fix for this problem and they will not do anything about it. the clutch was replaced and reprogrammed and this did nothing to fix the issue. *tr
In 2012, i purchased a brand new super economy flex fuel 2012 ford focus, which i had there was no problem with vehicle after don seeyle ford replace the axle and wheel bearing. last spring of 2014, my car started shuddering violently as i reversed the vehicle into driveway at home. in august 2014, i received a notice from ford motor company that listed problems with the transmission for this vehicle. after receiving this notice, i called seeyle ford to inquire about the transmission as well as the rear window defroster that has not been working properly either from previous winter. i made an appointment with seeyle ford to get the transmission repaired, rear window defroster and routine maintenance done. after returning to seeyle ford, the rushed and thrown the paperwork for routine maintenance to the cashier without informing myself about that no repair was done to the transmission or the rear defroster. however, i noticed that the vehicle was vandalized by punchers holes in the upholstery by the rear window close to the defroster, which i have never punchers holes since purchasing it. finally, i took the vehicle to galesburg ford to inquire the same issues, however, i explanations was simply thanks for the business. in march of 2015, received another noticed from ford motor company about the transmission. i called galesburg ford about the transmission but nothing happened as usual. finally on april 6, 2015, i called ford customer to file a complaint with repair issues with the dealerships. on april 7, 2015, i received a call from the regional manager sally basically said 'i can take the vehicle somewhere else because ford will not repair it unless it total breaks down.or simply the company is going to do nothing about the complaint. so, i basically received attitude of we will listen but the company doing nothing for you. *tr
I have recently had an ongoing problem where my dash lights turn off, head lights turn off, radio turn off, and a message comes on the dashboard saying "hill start assist unavailable". the radio turns back on after about 20 seconds. the dangerous part is when the speedometer shuts off and i cannot tell how fast i am going. i have contact the dealer about this problem, and taken the car in for service on this and they claim there is nothing wrong with the car. i already had a problem with my transmission where i had a full replacement and they are refusing to take any action regarding this problem. this vehicle is unsafe for anyone to drive until they figure this out. i dont know who else to contact regarding this issue since i have gone to ford, the dealers, as well as independent shops and they all claim they cant find a problem. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle stuttered and rolled backwards, the steering wheel shook and failed to turn, and the accelerator pedal failed to respond and traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed. in addition, the "transmission ready" indicator illuminated. after the vehicle was restarted, it operated normally. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (camelback ford, 1330 e camelback rd, phoenix, az 85014, (602) 635-7551) where it was diagnosed that the transmission clutch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failures recurred. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 77,000. the vin was not available.
While driving (at multiple speeds, on multiple occasions), transmission disengages for absolutely no reason and car must be parked and restarted to move again. the engine does not stall, and you can rev the engine, but transmission will not engage (like being in neutral) to move vehicle. took ford dealership multiple times to fix the issue because they needed an error code to work from, even though anecdotal evidence suggests that this is a well know defect of the transmission control module (i.e. computer chip that regulates the transmission), in this vehicle, which was eventually replaced (and now the car runs fine). submitting this complaint because it caused multiple dangerous road situations where i could not power the vehicle on a freeway with traffic at high speeds. this could cause injury or death that is completely avoidable by the replacement of one computer chip, and ford is most likely aware of it....updated 07/30/15 *bf
The vehicle doesn't automatically shift properly. it doesn't shift up when it should and revs up badly. the same thing happens when i go down large hills. it shifts down and it shouldn't, so the engine revs and i have to put it in neutral when going down hills. further, when i am parked on a hill, it rolls back a bit before stopping. lastly, the bluetooth microphone is dying and sounds terrible on the other end. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle accelerated slowly on occasion. other times, the rpms would race and the vehicle would jerk forward. the dealer stated that the body control module needed to be replaced. the contact stated that the dealer was not able to reprogram the computer to install the new part and had to re-install the old part. the manufacturer was notified and the vehicle was taken to the dealer a fourth time to have the new part installed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the sensors intermittently illuminated for the brake assist and parking aide. in addition, while making a right or left turn, the steering wheel locked intermittently more than once. the contact also stated that the clock intermittently shorted out and the time display was incorrect. the dealer provided an interim remedy and suggested that the contact turn off the gps. the interim fix remedied the failure as long as the contact used the feature to disable the gps auto clock manually each time. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 3,000.
Driving up light incline on paved highway when traction control light flashes indicating a loss of traction. seconds later car loses response to gas pedal, flashes "transmission system failure. service immediately." after pulling over away from traffic and powering off then 30 second wait and on warning is gone and functions are restored. a week later problem comes up again, this time on interstate going 70mph. cruise control is shut off automatically, no power to gas pedal, traction warning comes on, and same transmission warning flashes. goes away in a second or two. pull over as safely as i can while cutting off a semi-truck, power car off and on, all systems normal. four days later pull out of parking spot with a hesitation of vehicle to start, then a vibrating in reverse. drive around lot to exit, pull onto main road and same warnings/problems as usual happen. now blocking traffic perpendicular to flow. check engine light comes on, put car into park, turn off, and back on. try to shift into drive. won't budge. turn off and on again. try to shift again. no luck. one more time, wait a few seconds, then again. car powers on drives to another location with check engine light on and then to dealer with no further issues. dealer inspects, finds faulty tcm. directly attributes this to manufacture defect and not to user error. *tr
It does not shift correctly. slow and sluggish to shift. very jerky. especially at lower gears. jerks forward when not expecting it. have taken it back to dealer twice. had a new clutch put in. was good for a day or two. doing it again!!!! this car should be recalled & returned to owners only when this is fixed. ford knows this experiment did not work & it is time to make it right. i work hard for my money & this experience has left me very unhappy. i was sooo happy to get a new car. now i am left with this. as a single working mother, i was appalled that i was not informed about this transmission being manual hybrid until i took it in for service. this is fraudulent salemanship from ford. *tr
Transmission has been jerky, shaky, jumps into gear. this has happened periodically since i have gotten the car and has gotten progressively worse. most recently, whenever it shifts around 20 mph there is a terrible grinding noise along with a shudder. brought my vehicle into hudson ford in hudson, wi on august 15, 2014. dealer stated there was a transmission leak and seals were defective. they replaced seals. i asked if there was any damage to the transmission and they said no. on monday august 18, 2014 i called the dealer back to let them know the grinding noise was still present, not all of the time shifting but it is still occurring. dealer said to "give it a thousand miles and call back if it still happens because new parts need to lubricate and beak in." i am not sure how true this is because there are metal parts grinding, not the seals replaced" i find it hard to believe there isn't more wrong with this car with grinding metal noises present. this is a danger to myself and others should the transmission fail on the highway or it jumps into/out of gear and a hit a car. there are so many complaints like mine. ford needs to provide total transmission replacement or buy these cars back. *tr
During times of frequent stop and go (accelerating and de-accelerating) the car shudders and acts like it is going to stall. it does not accelerate or de-accelerate properly sometimes. i did not notice until about 40,000 miles and have had this problem ever since. some model of ford focuses are under recall, however when i went to the dealer they said my car specifically was not being recalled yet it was exhibiting the same issues.
I just had my vehicle in a ford dealership you get the transmission looked at because it would not shift correctly and the check engine was on. it has been out of the shop for 3 days and while on my way home from work i was on the highway and car came to a halt and would not shift and i was almost rearended. this is the third time my vehicle has been at a ford dealership to have the transmission looked at. when is someone going to do something about all of these transmission issues with this year and model? *tr
Transmission shifts improperly causing shudder effect. at idle the vehicle shudders as if its going to die out. the shudder happens mostly on highway driving.
At random times the car will just shut off leaving a coasting vehicle down the highway, or leave you stalled out in the middle of an intersection. if you leave it sit for 30min-1hour it may restart. if you press the accelerator it was not respond. after a couple minutes the vehicle will recover from a rough idle and try to lunge forward even when vehicle is in park. problem: transmission control module. *tr
Automatic manual clutch/transmission shutters, jerks, vibrates and lurches at low speeds or on hills. ford reprogrammed clutch/transmission in 2014 and it improved. however, the problem still exists as the clutch is slipping. please recall and fix this issue. *tr
The transmission on my 2012 ford focus makes a grinding noise and the car jerks when starting out from a stop usually thru 1st and 2nd gears thru the automatic transmission. according to the internet there have been hundreds of complaints and problems with the ford split transmission. a recall should be made on this car, i guess it will take some accidents and lives before ford does anything about it. *tr
Tried to take off at stop light. when i hit the accelerator the car jerked real hard but barely rolled. then the rpm went to 5000-5500 and it took off real fast. *tr
My 2012 ford focus is unsafe to drive because of the faulty dps6 transmission. the clutches in it have been replaced 3 times and it's slipping badly, again. also, the transmission control module failed, and when it did, i was stuck in the middle of the freeway without the ability to move my vehicle. i no longer have warranty coverage for the expensive repairs and i'm stuck with an unsafe lemon. the transmission continues to fail, even after the clutches are replaced, because it is a flawed design that won't work properly. i've only been able to drive the car approx. 50k miles, each time the clutches have been replaced, until it starts slipping badly, again. even when the clutches aren't slipping badly, the car does not operate as it should. i've almost been involved in traffic collisions multiple times because of it, and ford still refuses to accept responsibility for their flawed product. there was a recall for the tcm, but not for the transmission. it's unacceptable for ford to not take complete ownership of this serious safety issue, and i appeal to you for assistance.
While driving on the road, going about 40-50 mph on a sunny, hot day in july, the traction control suddenly turned on and the car started to decelerate. i found it odd as the weather was not inclement and i had not hit a pothole so i pulled over since the car was automatically slowing down. i was lucky not to have been in an accident as there were plenty of cars around and this was less than half a mile from the highway that i was about to travel. after pulling over, i turned the car off to try to clear the traction control as it seemed to be stuck on. the car would not turn back on (the engine was not turning on though the battery was fine). after calling the ford auto club and having help come out, the car got towed to the dealership. the issue turned out to be with the transmission control module that was covered under the original power train warranty. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shook and became unstable. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the transmission oil seal was ruptured. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 35,900.
2012 ford focus. consumer writes in regards to water leakage on the inside passenger side. *smd the consumer stated two after the vehicle was supposedly fixed, water leaked inside again. the consumer continued to drive the vehicle. then at 13,000 miles, the vehicle started to shudder and shake when she accelerated. the consumer then traded the vehicle for another a 2014 ford focus and she experienced the same shudder problems. the consumer was informed, the automatic transmission, also had a clutch. *jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the automatic transmission module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the vin was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving 5 mph, the vehicle made a loud grinding noise and stalled. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 47,491.
I purchased this vehicle used on june 25, 2014. on june 28, 2014 while i was driving approximately 65 mph the car seemed to slip out of drive into neutral, the check engine light came on and i lost all power to the car. i nearly had a very bad wreck trying to get the car back in control. once i was stopped i started the car back up, it started up just fine and drove just fine for another couple of hours. then it did the same thing again, this time i was driving at approximately 30 mph. when i restarted the car this time the check engine light stayed on and the car no longer wants to shift between gears. i took it into the ford dealership. they are well aware of the problem, but will not fix it for me without any out of pocket expenses because they have not actually issued a recall. these cars are unsafe to drive! *tr
I started experiencing transmission problems with my focus after what would normally be considered the end of the break in period, which was around 8,000 miles. the car would stall, shudder, and shake during acceleration from a stop, at low speed driving, and got notably worse the longer i drove especially on hot/humid days. i followed the maintenance schedule as outlined in the owner's manual and each time i brought my car in for maintenance i discussed my concerns about the transmission with service personnel and received the "corporate" answer each time "your transmission is operating within specifications", there's nothing we can do at this time. on 27 june 2014 as i was approaching the main gate of the base i work on, my car came to an abrupt halt and displayed the alert "parking assist malfunction maintenance required". the hazard lights became inoperable, gear shift indicator would not shift to park, and the transmission ceased to function. i was extremely fortunate that this did not happen while i was driving down the interstate at 65 mph 5 min earlier, because i firmly believe that i would have lost control of the car and either killed myself or someone else. the following parts were replaced in order to return my car to full operation: - pcm transmission control module - clutch assembly and leaking seals - reprogrammed transmission iaw latest tech bulletin this is a common theme among all focus owners at the moment who've purchased vehicles since 2012. it's obvious to the public that the focus transmissions have design flaws and ford needs to come up with a solution and replace the transmissions of these vehicles. for the safety of the public i urge you to mandate a recall on the transmissions in all affected ford models before ford makes the same mistakes gm has and people are seriously injured or killed, it's just a matter of time. *tr
The transmission is knocking when it shifts gears especially the lower gears. it stutters really bad as well. *js
Purchased this vehicle on saturday, june 14, 2014 for my daughter. the following monday while pulling out of parking lot, the "engine" indicator came on and car begin to hesitate, when she got on the highway she was not able to drive more than 40 mph and the tachometer was flipping from one side of the dial to the other. she managed to the drive the car home. i started the car, the light was off and it drove "normal". i could feel that there was a slight hesitation and a slight vibration when idling. i called the dealer the next day, he spoke with someone in the service department and they stated whatever the problem was, it self-corrected itself; but to bring it in if it happens again. i am particularly upset because i purchased this as an upgrade from the chevy cobalt. my daughter and son will be driving this car to college in the fall which is a 3 1/2 hour drive across the state of iowa over very busy interstates. i shudder to think what might happen if this car acts up on the interstate. what are you all going to do about this obvious problem... wait for fatalities?????? *tr
Car is a death trap! going down the highway at 60 mph and it just loses all power and dies! that was the first incident. took it to the dealership where they rebuilt the clutch. this did not fix the transmission problem at all. the second incident happened a week later when i had my children in the vehicle, and we were making a left-hand turn onto a busy highway when all of a sudden the car lurched forward into oncoming traffic and just died. how we did not all end up smashed to bits is only by the grace of god himself. it is back at the dealership now with them saying it's the tcm module in the transmission. i came online to investigate only to find thousands of complaints about this car and it's total piece of crap transmission. i now have zero faith that this will fix the issue, and i can no longer trust this car at all. this is ridiculous and seriously needs to be looked in to. i am filing complaints within every avenue i can find. *tr
Pulled out of parking lot, the transmission malfunction indicator came on with message. car would not go above 10 mph and the tachometer would flip from one side of the dial to the other. pulled into another parking lot and put car in park and tried turning the car off and then starting the car again to see if it would clear the error. same error and will not move above 10 mph. had car towed. *js
On two occasions the vehicle stopped running while in motion. in incident 1, this occurred at highway speed (65 mph) and incident #2 in local traffic (15 mph). in both cases all power was lost including the acceleration, power steering, etc. after incident 1, the car restarted and driven to the dealer - extensive repairs were made "to the transmission" (per the dealer). in the second incident after dealer repairs after incident 1, the car completely stopped at highway speed and would not restart - towed to dealer. again loss of all power including acceleration, power steering, etc. after incident 2 the dealer replaced the "master control unit". while both incidents were covered by ford under the "drive train" original warranty i am concerned about the loss of power in two incidents separated by about one month. *tr
Car was running fine and the vehicle lost power and slowed to a crawl. after sitting awhile it started up again only to loose power again. was told it was the computer, then the battery, then the transmission. now being told that it was the tcm voltage being the problem. the car is in the shop. the service manager has said the part is not available because there are so many of these cars requiring this part. the car is not safe to drive and there has been some recalls on many of these models. in fact there is a recall for a software update on many of them but not mine. why isn't there a recall if the dealer says that it is a common problem on this car. *tr
The transmission is jerking, shifting not smooth, sometimes wont start, sometimes wont shift gears at all. the car has been towed to a repair center twice this month due to the problems and not being safe to drive. *tr
I have a 2012 ford focus sel. i am making payments on this car. i purchased it as a certified pre owned. it had roughly 30,000 miles on it when received. it has been 18 months since date i received the car. i have had it four times for the transmission. all for the same thing witch is grinding of gears, slipping and not shifting properly. the dealership has updated the software and other services on it. it has continued to do all of the stuff i had it for. *tr
I purchased a 2012 ford focus less than a year ago and have had trouble ever since. i have had my car in repaired once for the transmission issues accelerating and coasting. my car is shaking and hesitating with any type of acceleration. the car is making a clunking noise when driving, turning corners and braking. i am beyond disappointed with the quality of the 2012 focus. i dropped my car off at the dealer and wanted it looked asap. i also contacted ford directly about my concerns, they informed me about the dual clutch transmission as a reason for the drive (an excuse i have heard numerous times from the dealer). after a couple days the service department called to let me know they had looked it over and everything seemed fine. they later test drove it and he informed me that everything looks great and that the way my car is driving is just the way these focus' drive due to the double clutch transmission. he informed me that it tends to drive the way i was describing if people have a "light foot", if i would drive with a "heavier foot" or "accelerate faster" it most likely wouldn't have these issues. when i brought up the instance where the car shook and made a large clunk when i turned it off, he stated that it was probably a "fluke". it is very discouraging that i am told that this is just how the focus vehicles are going to be. i emailed ford about the results and have not heard back. i picked up my car and it still drives jerky and the clunking noise is even louder. i dropped it off with 40,618 miles and picked it up with 40,630 miles. i think it is frustrating that it is deemed as a standard drive with a 12 mile trip. i am disappointed that i am expected to hit the gas harder to hopefully have a somewhat less jerky drive... not sure how to do that in parking lots and neighborhoods. i do not feel that i have a safe quality vehicle and don't know what to do next. *js
When exiting grocery store parking lot, as we pulled out into traffic, the car experience a sudden loss of acceleration/drive train power, while electrical systems started to flash, and electronic gear indicator transitioned from gear to gear. rpms, were still registering and on acceleration, drive train was unresponsive. this happened all while in traffic, when oncoming vehicles were approaching. we turned on hazard lights and moved to the road shoulder. powered off car for a minute, then restarted. car started but still experienced severe hesitation on acceleration, and seemed as if it was struggling to stay on. pulled onto a side street to get out of traffic, then after turning car off, it would not turn back on. after approx. 10 minutes, tried to turn on car again, and it started. was able to carefully drive car home, however check engine light has now been illuminated. this will be the 5th instance (all instances documented by dealer, and serviced by dealer) that the car has had this issue, and we have brought it to the attention of the dealership, with no 100% remedy being given. will be taking car in once again to dealership for service and hopefully resolution of this ongoing issue of hesitation on acceleration, and total failure of drive train during vehicle operation. *tr
An unexpected loss of power while driving resulting in a stall-like condition. shifting gears lock up. have to shut off car, let it sit for a few minutes and restart it. *tr
Shudder vibrations and acceleration lag due to the malfunction of the dtc (duel clutch transmission) in my 2012 ford focus. *tr
In the past year, i have experienced issues with my transmission where my car has difficulties shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. it shutters and jolts, feels like i have a manual transmission. i commute daily, especially in traffic, so this has never been acceptable. on june 1st, i was in a parking garage coming around a corner when my traction control light appeared and i lost power to the engine. the interior lights, radio, ac were still working, i just couldn't move the car. i was stalled and was nearly hit a few times since i was stuck in a turn. i tried turning the car on and off, no luck. i had my car towed home, and ford towed it to the dealership the next morning where i was told the car was stuck in gear. it needed a new transmission module. the new module was replaced and i was told my car was ready for pick up. i went in the next day, the porter pulled up my car and i could not drive it off the lot, because now it was stuck in "park". i was very frustrated and i was told by the dealership that the computer may have had a glitch when reprogramming or it may have reset itself. i was told this can more than likely happen again, how disappointing. i don't feel safe driving my car and especially long distances. i'm afraid this can happen again, but even worse, while i'm on the road. needless to say i will be looking into lemon law or trading in this vehicle. *tr
I bought my car at 38,000 miles as a certified preowned from a ford dealership. within 5k miles, i was experiencing chattering on take off, and at low speeds (mostly rush hour) & very hard shifts. i took it in, they reprogrammed the clutch, and sent me on my way with much less chattering and almost no hard shifts, still horrible in rush hour. in september, it started doing the same thing. i took it back, they fixed it again. sent me on my way with (again) some improvement, but no symptoms gone. i took it back in october, the service manager drove it with me, he said the items i was experiencing were all "normal operating conditions." he actually told me: "drive it harder, it will perform better." i was always taught that you don't rag on your car and it lasts longer. dumb advice that irritated me. sunday, i was driving down a busy road (lucky it was on a sunday with no school traffic), and my car suddenly acted like it was in neutral. driving down the road my car stops moving forward. after the car stopped accelerating, i was able to get it into a parking lot. i put it into park, then drive, park, reverse, nothing. at this time, i turned it off and it would not restart. i had it towed to the dealership, the dealership said it was my transmission control module. there is less that 52k miles on my car. i've had the car 8 months. *js
Car's transmission felt sluggish (hesitate to accelerate) after 15-20 minutes of low-speed driving (0-10mph) in a traffic jam. ten minutes later, engine stalled on freeway at 70mph. tachometer dropped to 0 and speedometer displayed was 0. car restarted, and continued to be driven for 15 minutes. gear disengaged when turning into a parking space, car rolled backwards. power did resume after 2 seconds while constantly giving gas. restarted the car after around 30 minutes, car stalled again few minutes later. engine would not restart instantly. only clicking noise was heard in the engine bay when turning keys. waited 10-15 minutes to restart. car accelerated to 70mph before stalling again after 1-2 minutes. gear indicator was flashing. when the car stalled, engine raved with lost of power for 1-2 seconds. car felt like in neutral even shifter was in drive. tachometer then dropped to 300rpm and never rav again. car was pulled over. the cycle of stalling and restart repeated 5-6 times until i arrived home. the next day car was drivable again (i only have a 5-mile commute). similar troubles occurred three weeks ago when car was totally disabled after 20-30 minutes parking lot driving. car hardly restart and refuse to go into gear. gear indicator constantly blinked. i previously thought the issues were related to the usage of s gate, where it happened for two instance. there are 3 occurrences of similar troubles. first time was about a month ago when car refused to start, but it was perfectly drivable again after being cool down for a night. towed to dealer but problem could not be duplicated. the reason that prompts me to write this report is due the lost of power on freeway which i believe is a safety related issue. also, there doesn't seem to be a trouble code in the computer, which makes it hard for dealers to diagnose the problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while attempting to drive the vehicle, the contact engaged the accelerator pedal and caused the vehicle to surge forward. the vehicle began to jerk violently. the failure occurred multiple times. the dealer stated that the clutch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000.
4 transmission failures in 25k miles still have problems with transmission slipping, jumping, lurching hesitates grinding and shutters, when you press on the gas from a stop it sometimes jerks you into movement or if you press the gas a bit harder it will shutter, the more we drive the worst it just until it cools down. *tr
Transmission was shifting poorly, then like an engine miss, power loss, step on gas it slowed down, turned corner at intersection and almost didn't make it thru intersection. very light foot on the accelerator would allow it to gain speed. missed 1st gear on stop at stopsign, took off in 2nd or 3rd (automatic)/ check engine light was on until i got home, shut it off. started back up and ran fairly well to dealership. this is second time in a week i've had to dealer. they did a tsb electric reset of shift points and said it was all related. i was charged for that even tho there was a tsb performed. also my rf window motor is out. it was rarely used as i commute about 55 miles a day solo. *tr
Driving down highway, car lost power, the check engine light and the traction control light came on. would not accelerate, brakes would not function properly to stop. when i finally got the car stopped in a parking lot next to my place of business, the car would not start up again, and when it did, it would not go into any gear. sat in the parking lot for 30 minutes trying to get the car to start up and go into gear. when it finally did go into gear, i got it to my place of business 2 blocks down and parked it. i am afraid to drive the car as it is a major safety issue. there have been recalls on the electric version of this car, but not the gasoline versions. this needs to be a recall on all of these models as there are several hundred complaints online about the same issue. ford will not do anything about these issues unless the car is taken to one of their dealerships, which in past experience, they don't do anything at the dealership except overcharge for diagnosing the car, and for them to tell you nothing is wrong with it and that they know there are issues with the cars, but they do not have a fix for them and they can change the parts, however that will not solve the problem and it will happen again. i have been told this by the manager at a dealership and he has stated there is nothing he can do to change the situation. this is a major safety issue and someone needs to look into ford for the same issues gm is having with their small cars. *tr
I have a ford focus 2012 se with winter and comfort packages. my vehicle suddenly swapped up from 79 mph to 81 mph when i pressed the down button to slow the car. *tr
We have this car and they have already redone parts in transmission one in 2014. now we are having problems again i took to dealership on 4 25 2015 and they confirmed that it was messed up again but parts are on backorder til july but car was safe to drive. i complained that i didn't think it was that it stalls and hesitates when taking off or pulling into traffic. they said nothing they could do and acted they could care less. i then called ford and pretty got the same response so i said y'all better hope and pray my wife or i don't have a accident. wife is very uncomfortable driving car. *tr
Ford focus titanium hatchback (2012) has transmission/clutch problems. ford service dept. has "fixed" over three times with no result. leak between engine and transmission, als leak. at one point the service change was put on hold due to parts being unavailable. ford refused to provide rental car or and extras to help with the inconvenience. *tr
Attempted to accelerate into merge lane and onto highway but transmission did not respond with engine revving up and slipping. i had to pull off the road to avoid obstructing traffic or being struck by traffic. although this was the most dangerous incident it has happened before and the ford dealer has not resolved the problem. *tr
After driving about 50 miles and come to a stop the transmission disengages and car rolls backwards. this happened 3 times in 2 days. the dealer says it the way i drive. *tr
