Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2012 Ford Focus

Since purchasing this vehicle i have had consistent problems where i will pull out into traffic and the vehicle loses power. at some points, where the vehicle is stopped, the car shakes a lot! there seems to be an acceleration problem and it is getting much worse! i was almost rear-ended yesterday! *tr

I noticed the transmission wasn't shifting correctly and it was hesitating. this happened often and finally i was stuck in the middle of an intersection twice on the same day and the car would not shift into second gear and began shaking and making a knocking noise. this could have caused a huge accident. i don't understand why ford has not done a recall on this car. i was told my transmission has extensive damage and the part that needs to be replaced was on backorder and could take a few months. i was also informed that i am number 1900 on the waiting list for this part in my region. i asked if i could trade my car in for another model of car at the same cost and they said they would only pay me $14,000 for my focus. so basically my car depreciated $10,000 in 4 months and ford will not do what is right and replace the car for me and take the loss. i'm extremely disgusted that ford was even selling these cars when they knew there was a problem with the transmission and even more so that they will not fix the problem. *tr

Bought 11/9/2012 six months later rec'd emission recall, 1yr later would not start, dead in grocery parking, dealer said emission again, 2nd yr radio went out, 3rd yr catalylict converter need to be changed, 5/16/2017 was charged $1805.72, said not emission but it was doing the same thing as before, dead had to be towed again to dealer, dealer said, "codes po420, po7a3 tested, found converter stopped up, shift actuator faulty, removed transmission replaced clutch actuatorsand clutch, removed & replaced manifold/coverter assembly. now twice so far engine malfunction light, no power, goes 5 miles....... when turned off in about 45-1 hr, starts.... all this while driving or parked in a parking lot.

The car is equipped with a 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. while under heavy braking the car began to stall. the result was the brake pedal losing power assist from the engine. then because the engine was trying to recover from the near stall, i was unable accelerate to avoid an oncoming car. the engine did recover, but it took several seconds (and a lot of bucking and sputtering) before i was able to move the car after coming to a stop. the week prior, i had the car in for service at a local ford dealership because the car would shudder during acceleration. the dealership reprogrammed the transmission and the problem is still there, but less noticeable than before being serviced. this new issue with stalling under heaving braking did not occur prior to the servicing. after the near accident, i wanted to know if the problem was a fluke or if it would happen again. i have found that i can recreate the issue almost every time the car nears a stop under heavy braking. the car is scheduled for service for this issue. *tr

Transmission vibration, shuttering, jumping in and out of gear , clunking into gear , can't find gear ,rolling back, slipping, flaring .

1. my 2012 ford focus is stalling out and revving up at high rpms then stalling out for the last 4 months. 2. this is the fourth occurrence for the same issue in the last 4 months. 3 times in the last three weeks. 3. the first two times, ford could not find the problem and related to driving at high rpms or spinning on gravel which never occurred. i advised that the vehicle would rev at high rpms but not go anywhere then stall, not on a gravel road but a major highway going 55-60 mph. twice the vehicle had to be towed. the other times i could drive it to the dealership at 30mph but it would continuously stall out. the third time they replaced the computer which did not solve the problem. the fourth time occurred and my vehicle has been at the ford dealership for a over a week and they still cannot figure what is wrong with it. my vehicle has 41,000 miles and still covered under the powertrain. ford is refusing to buy the vehicle back under state lemon laws and not giving me an offer for diminished value for the hit i am going to take on the trade in once i hopefully get the vehicle back operational. *tr

This vehicle shudders when attempting to accelerate. it feels as though the transmission is slipping. ford has said that this is a computer programming issue. they have reprogrammed the car, but there still has not been any fix. the car continues to shudder upon acceleration. this is truly concerning and i am worried that this will continue to cause issues in the future. *tr

I purchased this vehicle new in may 2012. from the start the tranmissions shifted rough and jerky. i was told that it was normal for this type. conditioned worsened and it was taken to dealership in november 2014. i was told that it was within "limits" and was reprogrammed. a few months later, i was at a red light and went to accelerate. tranmission shuttered and car did not respond, i was rear ended causing 2,000 in damage. transmission continues to shutter and hesitate. causes car to lurch forward or backwards from a stop, i took back to dealership purchsed from. i was told to complain to ford and most likely would only be reprogrammed again. this is what happened. car is unsafe to drive. if it shutters or mis shifts at highway speed, could result in serioius incident. help please.

I have reported to the dealership several times about the jerking and stalling when i take off and attempt to accelerate. they reprogrammed the transmission module, but it still does it. *tr

Just like everyone else, the car stutters and hesitates to accelerate at slow speeds. the transmission feels as though it is going to fall out of the car. i have taken it to the dealership, and the "reprogrammed" the transmission. they said it could take up to 2 weeks for the car to relearn my driving habits. it has been 2 months, and the car continues to stutter and shake. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the vehicle independently downshifted as it vibrated abnormally. the contact continued to depress the accelerator pedal but the vehicle failed to respond. the vehicle did regain speed as the contact coasted along the highway. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for inspection or repair. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 4,000.

Oil leak from rear main seal leaking onto cluthes. the car rolls back on hills and makes flapping noises. also, at times it starts and stops like it's not getting gas. *tr

Since acquiring the vehicle new, i have brought the vehicle in several times with transmission complaints. each time i was told "that is how the transmission is supposed to work" or "your transmission is off because you let someone else drive the car and it has to readjust" or "you must have made a quick acceleration". the transmission often loses power when shifting and grinds after switching gears. i feel as though ford knew there were problems but tried to ease my worries by offering an extended powertrain warranty, which does nothing to fix the issues that i am having. the date below is the first time of many that this has happened.

I was pulling out of the cafe by my home. when i had a chance to pull out i stepped on the gas pedal. at this point the vehicle stalled then took off like a bat out of[xxx]. even leaving tire marks. i almost hit two on coming cars due to the hesitation then the lift off. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

My vehicle transmission was reflashed at the dealership due to hesitation, stuttering, and other issues at low speeds. this occurred after about 1000 miles (dealer said it would have to re-learn my driving habits). i was trying to cross an intersection and car almost stalled out, bucked, and barely made it across the intersection. vehicle is still have issues at slow speeds and initial acceleration. i took vehicle in again, and was told that is just the way these cars work and nothing they could do. *tr

The transmission "skips, flutters or just not kick in" when moving from a stopped position to an accelerated speed. seems like the transmission stalls out and then grabs. it does it quite often and i was almost rear-ended on several occasions so far by this hick-up in the transmission. i am going to take it back to baxter ford in omaha and see if the problem can be fixed or not. they may get the car back. *tr

Vehicle rolls backward while at a stop, i did not realize i was rolling and bumped the car behind me while at a stop light. grade at stop light is 99% level ground. has consistently attempted to roll backwards at all stops thereafter, dealer has serviced issue multiple times with no result. *tr

On 1/23/2013 at appox at 10:15 am i was driving to work! i was driving west bound 10 fwy! i was going about 75 mph in the fast lane. when all of a sudden the car speed drops to 30 mph in a matter of seconds, i right away turn on my hazards! but do to the fact that i was` in the fast lane it was very hard to get over safety as the car felt like it was going to turn off. i was very scared and afraid for my life i honestly thought that i was going to get hit and end up in the hospital.the thought of not making it did cross my mind. i tried pushing the gas petal to regain speed as the car did not allow me to do so. the rpm cage was going from 0 to 7 with in seconds. i begin to attempt to get the car over to my right shoulder towards safety. all i can see throw my rear view mirror and hear was all the cars that started honking at me, flipping me off, barely messing me as all the cars had to swerving around me. i begin to shake as it was a very scary feeling being inside the car while all you can do is see which car will me the one that's actually going to hit my car and the chain reaction that it could have caused. as i get over the four lane trying to not get hit by the speeding cars, the car turns off and i am now stuck in between the 10 fwy going west bound and the interchange to the 57 fwy going north and south bound. now being stuck in the middle of these two busy fwy's i felt my life was in extreme danger as my mind didn't let me concentrate because all i my mind could pay attention to, was the rear view mirror as i seen the cars again swerving from hitting me and all i can hear again is the cars honking at me. i get on the my cell phone and call [xxx] for help !!!!(husband) we called ford roadside service!!!! and the tow company was there with in 20 mins !!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). ...

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that she was stopped on an incline and attempted to put her foot on the accelerator pedal, when the vehicle rolled backwards. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection but they could not determine the cause of failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 200.

My husband and i purchased a brand new 2012 ford focus in april 2012. not even a year after purchasing the transmission started studdering/slipping. when you go to take off it acts as if it doesnt want to switch out of gears. there have been a couple of times we have been just driving down the road and it has completely bogged down and the entire car shuts off. as soon as we realized something was wrong we took it to dealership where we purchased and they informed us of a recall pertaining to the transmission control module. it has been in and out of shop several times for this reason and is still not fixed. we were just recently informed by the dealership that the recall will never be 100% fixed. it will always be an issue. we proceeded to trade car in due to the constant worry of the recall. as we are getting a trade in quote on the car we are informed that the car is worth way less because of the recall which puts us upside down in the car loan so now we have no options to trade in because there is a $4,000 difference in the trade in value vs what the car could be worth if there were no recall. we were basically told that the car is trash due to the recall on the transmission..so now we are stuck with a car that has a serious recall that will never be fixed. ford doesnt want to make it right. this car was bought brand new and we have had so much trouble with the transmission. no car at 6 years old should have transmission problems. ford should be liable. we trusted them with purchasing a brand new car. ford needs to make it right and get us into a safer vehicle.

We were pulling out onto state highway, my wife began to accelerate the car, it began shaking and shuddering as it was accelerating. the car had 12000 miles on it. we have taken it back multiple times they have reprogrammed the computer, however it did not work. eventually. they replaced the clutch packs and it solved the problem. at 28000 miles the problem reappeared. *tr

The transmission has shuddered and slipped from new. ford has replaced the clutch twice, made program module adjustments numerous times. nothing they have done has resolved the problem. i purchased this car for my daughter and constantly am concerned that she drives a car that does nothing but hesitate and shudder

The car is an automatic with a standard transmission. started making "clunking" noises. i took it to the deal and they put a "package" on it issued by ford. said that fluid was leaking into transmission but the noise would clear up. took it back a month later still making noise and was told that the noise would go away. to this day is still making the noise and recently has gotten worse. scheduled an appt for next month for them to look at this problem again. now i am noticing that sometimes it will sound like it is in one gear but the tachometer is racing upwards. my daughter has same car just a 2013 and has been having same issues with it and has taken to the dealership with same answers. i have spoken with other people that have owned these cars and they traded because of same problem. *tr

I purchased a 2012 ford focus at my local dealership (5 miles on it); brand new. within 6 months i had it in the shop 2 times. at the time my husband was an employee of that dealership and they gave him the run around. indicating all they had to do was reset the computer. supposedly they reset the computer twice however it never fixed the problem. once it was diagnosed on the 3rd attempt at the local dealership that it needed "parts" i was given the run around by that dealership. after contacting ford motor company on several attempts i finally received a response. i had to beg ford for a rental car so that i had transportation for the week that the dealership had my car.once the vehicle was fixed and i picked it up; i noticed a really rough idle. after dealing with this for this for several months; the dealership had me bring it back in and had it for another week to fix the idle problem. as of today; it is still not running right. i am taking it back in on friday to have it looked at once again as the entire front of the car shakes and the dealership indicated it "sounds like the transmission." not only does it shake and rattle; it clicks at times and jerks/shudders forward. i have on numerous occasions contacted ford motor company and have asked everything from buying the vehicle back and once and for all fixing the problem and get nothing but the run around. today i my vehicle was taken back into the dealership and i was told that it needs another new clutch and they are backordered. your agency needs to do something about these fords and the ford motor company before it causes a fatality. the way the car lurches forward and shudders; this could cause an accident or someone could get hit by this. please help ford owners !! recall these vehicles. *tr

I received a letter from ford in may 2012 regarding customer satisfaction program 12b37. the issue with the car was rough/jerky automatic transmission shifts & roll back when transitioning from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal. my husband took the car into the ford shop to have this issue corrected on 6/8/2012. everything seemed to be fine but both issues started up again and became more frequent. my husband again took the car back to the ford shop on 1/2/2013. my husband was told that this is the way the car drives. but the ford shop took the car and said they would take a look. we were given the car back the same day and were told that they reprogrammed the car and that everything was working fine. that evening i was about to merge onto the highway but the car would not accelerate. i pushed the gas pedal almost all the way to the floor and the car wouldn't go faster than 30 mph. i was almost rear ended by another car. luckily the driver was able to swerve into the lane next to me. i got off at the next exit and took the local route home. the next morning i took the car back to the ford shop. at this point, the car was driving completely normally. i explained what happened the night before. they wound up keeping the car for 2 weeks. i was told that they couldn't figure out how to fix the issue and had to call ford to get instructions on how to correct the problem. during this time, i placed a call to ford and filed a complaint with them. we received the vehicle back and everything seemed to be fine but slowly the same issues showed up more frequently. today (5/13/13), i've taken the car back to the ford shop. i was told that they would check it but that this may just be the way the vehicle drives. i am very disappointed ford hasn't been able to correct the problem properly. *tr

Ford has had many issues with their duel clutch transmission which causes the car to lurch forward, shutter, slip when starting or when shifting between gears. they know about this issue and have issued extended warranty but this is a safety issue. the internet is full of hundreds if not thousands of consumer complaints about this issue and a class action law suit has been filed. my issue is the same with thousands of other ford owners. we keep having to take the car into the shop, they adjust something and tell us there is nothing else they can do. i have had this issue on and off for over 2 years, my car will now be looked at for a fifth time. it would be great if the government takes a look at this safety issue and helps us out

Occasional and unexpected roll-back on inclines. occasional and unexpected lack of acceleration when acceleration is required. severe judder as the automatic transmission shifts between first, second, and third gears (occurs only after the car has been driven 5-10 miles). the car is fitted with a 6 speed automatic/manual transmission. the problems appear to be getting worse. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while the vehicle was started, the gear shifter would not engage into reverse or drive. while driving at different speeds, the entire instrument panel illuminated. the vehicle was taken to randall reed's park cities ford of dallas (3333 inwood rd, dallas, tx 75235) where it was diagnosed that there was a transmission and electrical failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,078.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while parking, the transmission slipped out of gear. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred a second time after parking in her residential garage and the vehicle went forward, crashing into a wall. the driver sustained minor injuries. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician stated that the vehicle was working up to standard. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 8,000 and the current mileage was 12,000.

Transmission control module problem. unexpected loss of transmission shifting while driving. problems with shuddering, vibration between gears and hesitation with the transmission. rolls backward on inclines like it is a standard but it is an automatic transmission. ford performed a reflash, relearn, and a pinpoint test. test failed and ford removed the transmission and replaced the clutch and seals on 11/05/14 per recall14m01. ford claimed that there were no other problems found with the transmission. on 12/08/2014 the shudder was back and the car bogged down to 30mph in a 55mph hwy. the situation was very scary and dangerous. i took the car back to the dealer and opened a case at 3:50 pm with [xxx], [xxx] at 1-800-392-3673. ford refuses to acknowledge there is an ongoing problem that was not fixed the first time. the ford dealership is maintaining fraudulent business practices by charging $1025.00 to fix the tcm (transmission control module) that remains dysfuntional and potentially dangerous on the road. [xxx] and [xxx] with the ford sullivan dealership claim that the recall is separate from this related transmission problem. this was my first and last new ford product. all the way around the transmission in this and many other ford focuses is a major problem for consumers and nhtsa. many deaths will happen due to fords unwillingness to address these faulty transmission components. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

When i start to go from a stop. motor hesitates, and then a very major shutter through out the car. also coming from a stop on a hill car will roll back. took to dealership and they told me its just the way it is and that it could be i am not aggressive enough on take off. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving various speeds, the transmission slipped and made a grinding noise. the contact also stated that acceleration power was lost. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times where the failure was unable to be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 6,000. the vin was not available.

This car has been horrible since the 1st week i bought it brand new off the showroom floor. the car shudders as i go in reverse, or if i press down on the accelerator from a stop. i've been in and out of the ford repair place more times then i could count. they have replaced the whole clutch assemble with no improvement. in fact it has actually got worse, and now i do not feel safe in my vehicle. i will go to accelerate across an intersection an it will shudder, does not move, and makes grinding noises. i have contacted the dealership, and they want to replace the clutch assembly again. however they could not promise me that this would resolve the problem. i only have 18,000 miles on this car and i absolutely hate it! on top of all of this they can not even get me in to repair it because there are so many focus' that are having the same problem they are bombarded and my appointment will be some time in 1/15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr

When we drove this brand new ford focus off the dealer lot we noticed a sudden jerk in the transmission. we did not know if this was a fluke or normal so we drove it about a thousand miles. the transmission began to jerk more, jump, stall, hesitate, and rev up needlessly and seem to get stuck in gear. we took it back to the dealer with our complaints and they reprogrammed the computer and told us to give it another thousand miles to improve. as of this date, we have had this car back to the shop 7 times with the same complaint. at about 36,000 miles they did put in a clutch kit which helped it for about eight thousand miles. unfortunately, the problem has returned. it is and always has been a safety issue for us. we never know when it is going to hesitate getting out into traffic...and we have been close to an accident several times. this last trip to the shop, just fri the 19th, they tell us there is nothing they can do...just live with it. i know we are not the only ones that have this problem, the technician told us that outright. we are sick of this car and we have exhausted all our resources. we want people to know this is not a safe car so that is our reason for this letter. *tr

My car would not go into the correct gear when i slowed down to turn a corner. coming out of the turn it stalled into neutral . my car has a rattle and jerking when i'm going less than 5 mph sometimes. this car does not change gears smoothly! i recently rented a 2013 focus and it drives great. my 2012 ford focus is horrible. *tr

This is an ongoing issue with the automatic dual clutch transmission. like most everybody else, i am experiencing the same hesitation and shuddering from a stop and the same "clunking" sounds in the transmission. i have had the vehicle into my local ford dealer, woody anderson ford, for a diagnostic check and like everybody else, they said that is a normal driving characteristic of the new-style transmission. while i initially accepted that response, i have become increasingly unconvinced of their assessment as while trying to merge onto the parkway, the vehicle failed to respond to a downshift and lost all forward gears. in traffic, the car would not accelerate and when i moved the gearshift lever into the manual position, it would not engage in any gear i selected. i was able to safely steer off to the hard shoulder, place the car in park and then back in drive and it was able to accelerate again...with a shudder in first gear, of course. it appears that ford does not have a realistic fix for this vehicle (unless the costly seal leak is the actual culprit) and therefore, i have not brought it back to ford for another check even though i did schedule an appointment but was unable to make it. there appears to be a real problem here with this transmission and moreso, the lack of confidence that it's drivers/owners have in it. it is a problem that is not being addressed with action. like many others, i am concerned about the safety of this transmission. *tr

I ordered the car from ford in 2011 as soon as they allowed orders. i have approximately 27,800miles on the car. i have yet to get the fuel economy that ford stated. i do both city and highway everyday and my combined fuel has not gone over 27 miles per gallon since i have owned it. i have even had it run out of gas on 3 separate occasions when the car was registering 30 and 34 miles to empty. *tr

Car shutters and hesitates upon acceleration from a stop. very concerning when making a left hand turn because you don't know for sure if the car will make the turn. i have read many posts about transmission failures on the ford focus. the car is not safe to drive. *tr

Vehicle has a constant shuddering and power loss when applying the accelerator. it has a tendency to feel as if it will stall out. was almost rear ended when trying to pull into traffic bc of poor throttle response. this is a known issue and ford refuses to address this issue. search the internet and it is obvious. this vehicle is a hazard to drive. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving various speeds, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the speed suddenly decreased. the check engine indicator illuminated. the dealer diagnosed that the transmission was faulty. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 51,000.

Since the purchase of the vehicle, the transmission rattles, shakes, loud bang, stutters. i took it to buena park ford where i purchased it from, they said it's adaptive learning and will be ok after 2000mi. still had issues took it to my local cerritos ford dealer, they could not fault a defect. took it back to cerritos ford, they replaced the clutch assembly, was a little better but got worse after driving a few thousand mi. i took it back to the dealer, they confirmed defect and did resets of the transmission and stated good for now. again a little better but slowly now worse than ever. i took it back to cerritos ford today, the service rep would not even listen to me, just kept saying it's normal, he did not even want to check and confirm my complaint, just kept saying they are educating their customers on the focus and fiesta's transmission. i told him it's not normal and safe, to just at least look into my complaint put it in writing if you thing it's normal. each of the last four times they did confirmed and tried to fix the defect. i am worried as the car was for my daughter who will be driving in a few months. i find it very unsafe as it stutters jerks and does different things and you can't determine what it will do next. they replaced the left strut was ok for a few weeks, then i took it back and they replaced the right front strut. i told the rep it's really loud now enough for him to clearly hear it. he tried to tell me the noise is part of the transmission and it's normal. i explained to him it's over bumps and to at least test drive it. he said he is trying to help me and does not want me to have the car not available to me for use. i told him i don't care how long it takes i just need the car fixed. today is mon which i did make an appointment for, he said he will call me on fri. i think i am just being played around and the car is a lemon. please help. *tr

I purchased ford focus used- one year old- with 16500 miles. three times it stopped as i was turning left in oncoming traffic. one time i backed up and it would not go into gear. other times it would not shift gears on hills or on ramps two times on my steep driveway it came out of gear. brought to shop numerous times - told nothing was wrong repeatedly. i got rid of car after 13 months and took a financial hit but now i am driving a safe car. the difference is amazing and i am simply driving a chevy cruze so not an expensive car in comparison. focus is dangerous to drive! *tr

The vehicle has a lack of ability to accelerate without clutch slippage from a stop and frequent shuttering during transmission shifts. this, in turn makes the ford focus unsafe to drive while merging or crossing oncoming traffic lanes.

Multiple instance have occurred starting in 2013 regarding shuddering with the car on acceleration. it happens when starting from a stopped position or even just trying to accelerate while driving. it has caused some dangerous situations, the latest occurrence was when i was trying to get on the freeway and the car wouldn't accelerate. the person behind me was really upset about it and started tailgating me. he was so close we could have reached out and touched his car. i could not go faster, as hard as i tried by pushing on the gas. when i was finally able to get up to speed, the car continued to follow me way too closely for several miles before finally turning off the freeway. the clutch assembly on my car has been replaced twice for two different issues. the last time i took the car in ( april 2014), i was told that the shuddering is occurring but does not fall in the parameters set out by ford, so there was nothing they could do. they said if it got worse, to bring it back. every time i have taken it in, it has been a hassle and very stressful for our family. *tr

I purchased my 2012 focus new nov. 2012. after a few weeks of owning the car, i noticed that the ride was not as 'smooth' as my prior car. i did not think anything of it, as i live in a city and assumed it was due to the stop and go of the city miles i drove as well as the winter season. by june 2013 with less than 8,000 miles, i began to notice that my car would roll backwards on hills when stopped in traffic while moving my foot from the brake to the accelerator and shake at various speeds. i was told by ford that the issue was deemed 'normal' in 2013. in november 2013, i had 12 months of data to realize the gas mileage was not even close to what the dealership and my car buying research led me to believe. i was getting 16 city mpg and 20 highway mpg. i also began to experience severe shuddering and shaking of my car at low speeds. when accelerating from ~10mph to ~25mph, my car began to lurch forward and also shudder when idle. in oct. 2014, i took the car for service w/ 12k miles. the service technician noted that there was nothing much that could be done as ford had not issued a new transmission fix. i was not happy with this answer and took the car back the following week and spoke to the mechanic's supervisor. the supervisor agreed to 'reflash' the transmission, which was the approved fix by ford at the time although it would worsen gas mileage due to reduction in gas efficiency to reduce the amount of shuddering and lurching i experienced. this fix did not appear to help at all and gas mileage got worse. in july 2017, i had the clutch replaced. the service technician acknowledged that the new clutch should help although it is the transmission causing the issues. since july 2017, i have not noticed any remarkable improvement to the driving experience. during standard maintenance, ford has told me there is nothing further that can be done.

I purchased this vehicle in november of 2012 and was never forewarned about the issues they had. the transmission has been fixed numerous times but continues to clip, shudder, jerk, and shake. i had to go to durham a year and a half ago and was almost involved in a bad accident when the vehicle started to roll back on an incline while in drive. i have come close to many accidents though due to this car, mostly because the transmission hangs up so bad. i have to constantly pull into either a parking lot or the center turn lane when i am in heavy stop and go traffic because the transmission stops pulling. i normally have to turn the vehicle off and sit there for a few minutes before it resets itself and i can go on my way.recently i was in the mountains and the rpms kept hanging up at 4,000 rpm going up and down the pass. i had to keep hitting the brakes and hitting the gas in order to resolve this issue. with semi trucks behind you this is very disconcerting. i also was stuck in heavy stop and go traffic on the interstate in the middle lane and the transmission was trying to quit. last year the seat belt buckle broke and i could not get it to unlatch, this past summer the ac was not blowing out of the vents, had to take multiple trips to the shop to get it diagnosed, and eventually fixed both blend door actuators. the chrome plating started peeling off on the steering wheel this past year at only 40,000 miles and almost cut my hand multiple times. it took them two tries to fix that. my gas mileage is not even what is advertised for these vehicles. in town i get 22 to 25 and on the highway i get 26 to 29 mpg. this car is ridiculous! ford will not even acknowledge the issues that it has, instead the transmission is within normal operating parameters, the rest of it well as the customer service lady stated to me "all cars have issues". *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated while driving about 5 mph, the vehicle transmission failed to shift into gear. the contact also stated the vehicle also jerked. the vehicle was taken to jorgensen ford sales (8333 michigan ave, detroit, mi 48210 ). the dealer indicated the transmission failed. the dealer repaired the vehicle. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was unknown.

At highway speeds while trying to pass, meaning speeding, my engine would cut out or loose power which would last about 10 seconds. i am bringing this to your attention because i read about other ford owners having the same issue. now ford said that it was easily fixed by reprogramming the transmission, this fix has alleviated some of the engine power loss but not all. in fact this fix makes my transmission act like it is slipping and the shifts points are way out of range. it is because of these issues i can't stand driving it, please advise as to what my options are since my factory warranty ran out. *tr

Repeated problems with transmission "slipping", lack of power, surging when finally does shift, extremely unpredictable acceleration from stop (e.g., pulling into traffic at intersections, or up hill at highway speeds). did not display problems during test drive, but at approximately 1,000 miles up to current mileage (about 2,200) it occurs every time i drive. have had three near miss accidents due to unpredictable acceleration from stops, also on highway under hill load. had dealer service check three times, first time updated software in pcm/tcm, second time with same dealer returned "no errors", tried different dealer, also "no errors" but was told other customers complained and "that's how it's designed". sent ford motor company demand for refund under california lemon law, ford customer relations center called and stated they will not pay refund at this time but requested opportunity to send special technician to local dealer. have not heard back to schedule with special technician after one week. *tr
