The power steering is no longer working. the steering torque angle sensor went out unexpectedly and i have found out that this is a common issue for these vehicles. luckily i was only parked and had just turned on my vehicle when this happened but i'm sure others have not been so lucky as i was reading that many people have the steering go in and out as the part is breaking.
When making a right turn at low speeds the steering locks up. when i force it, it will break loose but this has caused me to come close to having an accident. this happens at random.
The electric assist steering failed, making the vehicle very hard to steer, both from stationary and while in motion.
Came out of pet smart started my car went to back up and had no power streeing. checked under the hood and found no power streeing pump or no belt. called my mechanic, had to drive 3.5 miles with no power streeing, diagnose the sensor. mechanic put the sensor and the streeing turn to the right. meaning the streeing needs to be change and the only way to find that out is to performed the steps. that senior cost $219.00 which is useless if it turns to the right. luckily the mechanic said get one from the salvage yard. that cost was $299.00 for the complete steering. the charge for the labor was $450.00. this should of been recalled because the power steering sensor so i hope this will be included in the recall for power streering. the vehicle was stationary.

Received recall letter, took my vehicle in for the safety recall. the ford dealer, service dept. said that they performed the recall and everything is good to go. my daughter was driving the car last week and while driving it the power steering went out. 10/02/2019 today we took the car back to the dealership where the recall was done, at first they said it wasn't done and when we produced our service sheet, and then they tried to back tracked and said oh yes we did, but we didn't replace the module because it didn't have the 'codes'. they refused to attend to our concern and said they were not going to look at it or perform the recall because it's beyond the time frame. my issue is they did not do the recall the way it was suppose to per recall dates, my daughter was driving it at the time and was trying to exit the highway.she was really shaken up by it, thank god she was not hit by another vehicle because she couldn't make the turn with extreme use of her arms. they also said that the the recall only identifies vehicles made in kansas city, so yours may not be affected, we said ours is. but he still did not want to fix the recall on my car. the dealership is -all american ford, in oneonta, alabama. 35121
Today is 10/1/2019. i dropped my kids off at school came home and my neighbor son had missed the bus. i was on my way to take him to school when after i started my car my steering wheel wouldn't turn. first i thought i had done something wrong so i parked it and tried to reverse and turn the wheel again same thing happened. my electric steering wheel has gone out or is no longer working there was a recall before i got the vehicle 14s05 but with previous owner. i went to 3 different places saying the same thing how can a recall that claims to be fixed not be fixed thank god my truck was parked already so now they are saying it could cost 800-1800 and i have to take it to a ford place so disappointed. i purchase the truck in 2017 so approximately 2 years later and this happens.

While driving a a speed of 45mph, the steering went completely out. i applied my brakes to turn right to turn on a secondary road with less traffic and into a safer location. while trying to turn the wheel, it was barely able to make the turn. i pulled into a parking lot and was unable to even turn the wheel at this point. i shut off the engine and let the vehicle sit for a few minutes as i tried to decide what to do. i turned the ignition back on and the steering wheel was loose and functional at this time. this is the second incidence this has happened.luckily, no one was injured in an accident.i called ford and explained the situation and they told me based on my vin number, there was no recall for this issue. i did a search and ford is very much aware of steering issues on this year and model vehicle, yet no recall has been issued for my specific vehicle they have been aware of steering issues for several years.
There have been 3 instances in the past month that when turning left the power steering goes out for a second and the light and buzzer on the dash goes on. i called ford and the recall 14v284000 was done in 2014. the problem sounds like the same issue but ford is saying it was fixed. it does not happen very often but the results can be very dangerous. the electric power steering (eps) system / torque sensor is not working is some instances. ford is not taking responsibility since they completed the recall fix. but why will this issue only happen is very rare situations and only happen for 1-2 seconds. the vehicle is always in motion and while slowing down to turn to the left the steering goes out. i have called ford customer service and they are not taking any responsibility.

Steering wheel vibrates, chatters, and moves on its own accord while vehicle is stationary with the steering wheel left in a neutral position (no force applied left or right). the chattering noise can be heard while the vehicle is in motion with neutral steering wheel forces. this symptom creates extreme concern that the electric steering assist may fail or malfunction while the vehicle is in motion. this issue is not covered under recall according to ford.

'ford escape steering " car was parked. i pulled out to end of driveway and made left turn onto a busy street. suddenly, the steering wheel stopped having any power. since i was moving it was not real bad. if my wife was driving she probably could have had an accident. it was as if the engine was off and the steering was extremely difficult. i drove a block and was astounded that as i made another turn it was so difficult. i parked and checked the car over. i could see nothing and i was an ase certified master mechanic for 30 years (1983-2013). i could see nothing wrong externally. i was lucky, someone moving faster could have died. i drove it to a repair shop where i was told that there was a recall on that part but only for 2008 escapes built in kansas city. i think it is a disgrace that ford is allowed to continue risking the lives of consumers for something they know is an accident waiting to happen.
