While driving lost power steering. no lights or codes. was driving highway and in town. had power steering then it just quit almost wrecked.

Power steering assist fault with complete loss of power steering. recall repair in 2014 only reprogramed the steering module did and not replace defective parts. problem started when turning into driveway, dashboard warning alerted power steering assist fault with complete loss of power steering. should be another recall to replace defective sensors.

Was driving vehicle in city, suddenly lost power steering, nearly wrecking. i got car to mechanic, he said the steering shaft torque sensor was bad. he also stated that there was a recall from ford for this. i called ford because the year and model did match the recall. #14s05. i was told by ford that this vehicle was not covered. i reluctantly paid out of pocket to repair because this was dangerous. i do find it coincidental that there was a recall for this same exact thing on this vehicle, but was told this one was not covered any help would be appreciated, this is an unsafe condition.

Drove to work at 6 am went to use for lunch vehicle had no power assisted steering more like manual steering. making very difficult in parking , on ramps turning at intersections. my mechanic tells me steering column part failure that they have replaced in several escapes & mariners. my boss went on line and found info on recall of 915,216 ford escapes & mercury mariners. problem was when backing out of parking spot tying to to turn to right was very difficult more like manual steering

My daughter started to drive her car when the steering quit working. i drove it home without the power assist. it was hard to turn. now i need a new steering column. this failed without warning and had no codes able to read on a code reader. had to take dealer to use a ford computer to read what is going on.

Park the car went and pay a bill came back out start the car no power steering could not turn the wheel no power steering. bought car in 2012 carriage ford used.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while driving 2 mph in reverse, the steering ability seized. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. the contact stated that the vehicle exhibited the same symptoms as listed in nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering), but the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included. the failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

Sometimes my steering wheel is very hard. in addition, my car won't able to start when turn my key - my battery is good and my starter is ok. no crank no start

Lost power steering while driving making it difficult to steer.

I have been having multiple problems with this vehicle. i went and got the power steering recall fixed 1 yr to maybe 2 yrs ago and ford said it was fixed. now i'm having power steering going out while driving and car pulls to the right. i then turn the vehicle off and back on and it goes back to working correctly. i went back to ford and they said that the recall has been fixed and closed out and nothing they can do. now i'm having power steering still going out and now all my lights (abs, traction control, tire, air bag, anti theft light). after spending 200 at ford they told me ecm is bad and need to replace. almost 500 at ford for keys to be programmed to new computer i am still having same problems and ford wants me to spend more money to see what the next step is.

The power steering just stopped working, and had a hard time trying to steer the car in traffic, this is hard to try and turn the wheel. if this happed in a lot of traffic it could be a wreck. i think ford should be held to fix this problem. i was stopped at a light i did not have a wreck but it was a surprise when i tried to turn the corner.

Electric steering pump turns off when steering while driving on highway. the steering angle sensor quits working causing the electric steering pump to turn off. this in turn makes the vehicle hard to steer when driving and may cause a accident.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while driving various speeds, the steering wheel seized. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 187,000.

The power steering sensor has gone out for the second time on this vehicle.

Power steering went out on 2008 ford escape when turning out of parking lot. took it to mechanic; he said there's a recall (14s05) on it. i called my local ford dealer's service department, they ran the vin # and said there's no open recall. the info i've gathered states that it's on models assembled in kansas city, and my escape was assembled in kansas city, according to vin. i've found other complaints about this online. i remember taking it in for a recall a couple years ago but don't know what it was for; and i'm learning that ford only fixed the software but not the parts related to this recall. i think this is highly questionable and needs to be investigated.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. the contact stated that while driving about 20 mph, the steering wheel seized. the power steering fault light illuminated. the vehicle was pulled to the side and was later driven to an independent mechanic. the dealer was not called. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

On 10/25/2018, my daughter was driving her 2008 ford escape and the steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn. she completely lost power steering. this occurred in traffic and she was not able to continue steering the car. no warnings or codes appeared. this was a very dangerous and scary situation that could have resulted in her having an accident and perhaps killing someone or herself. the vehicle was towed to a dealership in birmingham, al (long-lewis ford) and diagnosed with code b2278/needs steering column assembly. i immediately started contacting ford as this was certainly a safety issue. after talking with a supervisor, they informed me that safety recall 14s05 was completed on the car on july 2014, 2018 at ford square of mount vernon in mount vernon, il so there were no recalls available at the time. i proceeded to contact that dealership and found out that they only reprogrammed the pscm since the car didn't have a fault code. i did not own the car during this time since i purchased it 5 months later. intermittent issues occurred after the purchase while traveling on the highway but were told by the dealership that everything was ok. again, no warnings or codes appeared. i have been told by ford mechanics that the reprogramming of the pscm removed ford from responsibility and now owners are stuck with an expensive car repair. several dealerships have stated that ford was negligent in correcting the problem and now more cars are starting to see the problem and causing everybody on the road to be at risk of an accident, possibly resulting in death. the car has 113,000 miles on it and it will be repaired at long-lewis ford at my expense which is very costly. the car was assembled at the kansas city plant which was the subject of the recall.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while attempting to reverse out of a parking space, the power steering became very difficult to turn. the vehicle was taken to an unknown independent mechanic who determined that the steering torque angle sensor was defective and needed replacement. the contact stated that willis ford (15 n dupont boulevard, smyrna, de 18877) performed a software update of the power steering per nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering) in 2015. the dealer only performed the software update and did not replace the parts. the vehicle was not repaired for the recent failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000. *tt*jb

Lost power steering assist for a couple of seconds making a right turn at lower speed. after sitting for 10 hours, started car and had no power steering assist when backing up. vehicle has recall 14s05. recall is as follows: if vehicle has code b2278, replace power steering torque sensor. if vehicle has code b3142 or b2277, replace steering assembly. if no codes stored, reprogram pscm and ic module. my car had no codes june 2016 and reprograming was done. two years later, i have no power steering and code b2278. power steering torque sensor is defective. dealer/manufacturer states recall was already done and will not perform sensor replacement.

My power steering went out and it is very difficult to steer.

Power steering failed because of a bad sensor. ford dealer said programming was covered in a recall not repairing the hard part that failed. steering was possible with huge amount of effort with the bad sensor.. replaced sensor and the vehicle's power steering was restored.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while driving approximately 55 mph and attempting to turn, the vehicle lost steering ability. the contact had to use excessive force to drive the vehicle home. the contact stated that the failure occurred for approximately one and a half years and the vehicle had not been driven in six months. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

Steering system fault appears on dash...making the wheel lock up in drive or turning.when i was parking steering was extremely hard please recall this matter i seen in 2006 a recall on google on the date of 11/1/2018... ford will say there are no such thing its extremely dangerous as well as a defect that came out of bo where

The automatic steering stopped working while my daughter was driving on a busy city street 30 mph last night. as she slowed and tried to correct, she was unable to avoid a collision as a result. this is the second time this has occurred to a second daughter. after investigating this issue following the most recent iss, it is obvious that ford was negligent during the recall repair. ford recalled this safety issue, but only updated software rather than fixed the issue. this was a design failure by ford putting people, including my daughters at risk. people have indicated that this repair will cost between $3,500 and $5,000. as this was identified as a previous potential failure due to the ford engineering deficiency, how can they be exonerated from responsibility.

After sitting at a stop light for about 30 seconds, i started to make a left turn. as i started to, the power steering in my suv stopped working, a dashboard light turned on (didn't see which one), and an audible warning alert turned on. i had trouble turning the vehicle, thinking i might not be able to keep the car on the road, but everything went back to normal a few seconds after completing the turn. it did not happen again after driving the car home (a few miles). i have not driven it since this happened.

My car is in the shop for an unrelated issue, and after completing repairs my mechanic took the car out for a test drive. while driving my car the power steering failed and my mechanic checked and there is a recall for this issue for this model year for this issue but my vin does not fall within the parameters for the recall.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while the vehicle was at a stop light, the steering wheel rocked back and forth without warning and the power steering failed. the vehicle was taken to anderson's rock river ford (815-229-0510, located at 224 n alpine rd, rockford, il 61107) where it was stated that the vehicle was previously repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered a discount toward the repair cost. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

Contacted barber ford and dropped off vehicle for power steering recall nhtsa 14v284000 ford number 14s05 at 8 am on 9/11/18 was told will be done same day got call 11 am was told part not there needs to be ordered will be done tomorrow 9/12/18. never got a call from barber ford. called at 11 am today 9/12 was told should be done by end of day. never got another call. called after 4 and get voicemail saying no one available leave message. never got a callback.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while operating the vehicle, the steering wheel became difficult to turn in either direction. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the torque sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. approximately four months later, while driving, the power steering completely failed and the steering wheel was very difficult to turn. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the local dealer (broadway ford, 1010 south military ave, green bay, wi) was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. the manufacturer was also notified. the owner was informed that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000(steering), but the contact indicated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. the failure mileage was 135,000. the vin was invalid.

In 2014 i took my escape into ford for the recall. weeks later, the steering wheel started to shake...then became impossible to turn. ford said i'd have to pay $1600 to get the steering torque sensor replaced, and their part on the recall was done with hooking it up to a computer. but i couldn't turn it. i drive a 3 year old, and i am not able to pay to fix or buy something new. i bought a ford bc i thought they cared about safety. and stood behind their product. i put lives in danger bc i need to work. and i have to drive there. help!!!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while driving approximately 10 mph and attempting to make a turn, a clunking noise was heard from the steering column. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the dealer was not called. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure was not diagnosed. the failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

Lost my power steering as i was driving at a high rate of speed almost rolled and crashed the vehicle. this is a known problem and ford i s simply doing nothing about it. please do something before someone gets badly hurt or killed. this vehicle was taken into the dealer for a recall 14s05 on jan. 1st 2018. they simply did a computer update and this did not repair the vehicle. someone needs to hold ford accountable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle became difficult to steer and the "need service" warning indicator illuminated. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering) and referred her to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 190,000.

Received dash notification "power steering assist fault" and steering now operating manually. reprogrammed power steering component 10/2014 and issue resurfaced 4/2018. reprogramming of power steering occurred prior to me having possession of vehicle and vehicle is experience fault issues that are part of a 2014 safety recall. ford dealer was not willing to fix the issue under the recall, but did offer the option of speaking with a sales person to buy a new car...ford dealer also asked current mileage of vehicle and explained that there would more than likely be a cost to repair the issue. note: i have only added approximately 18000 miles to the car since the recall had originally been repaired. the issue occurred when i started the vehicle: i heard a chime and the notification came up. i then noticed that the power steering was no longer working. after shutting down the car and restarting in the hopes of the issue correction, the power steering did not function correctly.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while driving approximately 65 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. the contact called the paducah ford inc. dealer at 270- 444-0011 (3476 park ave, paducah, ky 42001) and was informed that there was no recall. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was not provided.

I drove the car off the highway and onto the town road, driving slowly and the power steering wen out. i was only able to turn the wheels using manual steering for the next half hour as i drove home. when i parked the car and let it sit and then restarted the engine, the power steering came on.

Recall 14s05. dealership updated module 8/19/14. torque sensor failed may 2018 causing an unsafe incident on the freeway. my complaint is that ford would not replace the part without charge. had to replace the part at a cost of about $800. after discussion with ford dealership and their refusal to replace part at their cost we had another repair shop replace the part. vehicle is out of warranty at this point but a recall item should be honored at whatever point said part fails for consumer. it is a known problem and has been recalled. if the part wasn't bad it would not have failed. please consider requiring that ford should extend the replacement and/or reimbursement period of these parts at no charge to consumers.

Car lost power steering while driving

Vibrating steering column while still and driving and dashboard alert stating "power steering assist fault" had a recall repair repair #14s05: electric power steering by bob moore ford on july 30, 2014. they performed an electronic update and now my power steering and steering column are having further issues. ford will not honor an additional recall repair.

The power steering would intermittently go in and out while driving causing near accidents and it could've been a lot worse if i had not been cautious or strong enough to turn the vehicle manually. it completely went out and makes it extremely difficult to drive and almost impossible to turn at times.
