My daughter was driving across country from virginia to california and back through texas on highways and back roads. she stopped for gas in texas and when she began driving again she was unable to control the steering, power steering was out. she had to drive back to virginia with no power steering which caused a safety issue. upon returning to virginia the vehicle was taken to wynne ford which determined an electric power steering fault and the steering column and the lock module needed to be replaced. we discovered there is a safety recall for this issue. safety recall 14s05- electric power steering. we were then told her vehicle would not be covered under this recall because only vehicles from the kansas plant would be covered. this is the exact same problem just a different plant and should be covered under the recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while the vehicle was idling, the steering wheel began to turn back and forth independently without warning. the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (power steering); however, the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. the recall repair remedy was performed at westlie motor company (located on 500 s broadway st, minot, nd, 58701). due to the contact being out of town during the failure, the contact took the vehicle to the local dealer (havre ford located at 1991 2nd ave, havre, mt, 59501) where it was diagnosed that the steering column had begun to fail. the contact was able to drive the vehicle back home. the contact notified the local dealer, westlie motor company, once she returned and was informed that it was not likely the same part that failed and, even if it was, it would be an out of pocket expense. the vehicle was not diagnosed due to the diagnostic fees. the contact had an independent mechanic diagnose the vehicle for a second opinion and was informed that the steering torque sensor failed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no active recalls and advised the contact to take it up with her local dealer. the failure mileage was approximately 106,000.
While on a shopping trip , i parked the car.....15 minutes later i started it and proceeded to back out of the space and could hardly steer....felt like i had 4 flat tires....the only warning was a steering wheel that shook while i was at stops, not while driving....no red lights, no other symptoms. out of the blue the power steering stopped....one week after being serviced and checked out.
I was driving my vehicle when all of sudden my power steering completely went out on me causing my driver side front ball joint to bust along with i dont know what else & almost wreck my vehicle. good thing i was near a parking lot that i could get my vehicle into enough to get my vehicle off the main road so i was not hit & involved in an accident. i bought vehicle used in april of 2016 & do not know what was done n what was not. my power steering went out abt a month ago & it has been sitting undrivable since then. a friend that is a mechanic finally was able to take a look at my vehicle & after just taking a look at the vehicle to see what was going on, he came to the conclusion without even knowing of any recall & advised that is what the issue wrong with my vehicle. he advised i need check into this to have ford take care of the issue free of charge. i ran the vin # to check recalls on my vehicle but came up no recalls however my vehicle falls in the year of the recalls. researched online & there are several recalls. how do i go about this & getting all the recalls taken care of for mine & my passengers safety, if my vin # is showing as no recall but the recall issue has happened to my vehicle? i need to take care of this ssap, as this is/was my only & main source of transportaion.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while driving, the steering wheel independently turned and the power steering assist stopped operating. the contact mentioned that extra steering effort was applied while driving at lower speeds. the power steering assist fault error indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to columbus ricart ford (4255 s hamilton rd #100, groveport, oh 43125 614-836-6260) where it was diagnosed that the power steering assist system shut down as a result of the power steering motor sensor fault. also, the power steering and torque sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer stated that, due to the previous recall repair, they could not repair the vehicle again. the failure mileage was 147,000.
There is a recall on this vehicle and when taken to a dealer in december of 2016 we were told that the steering sensor that was recalled was not reporting an error code and thus was not replaced. this month the power steering failed and we were told by another dealership that the recalled part had failed but because we had already taken the vehicle in for the recall, and even though the part had not been replaced we were not eligible for the replacement and it is costing us around $600.00 for the repair. i called ford directly and was told that even though it was recalled we were not eligible since we had already taken it in. i believe it is unacceptable for ford to not replace this recalled part. just because we wanted to be careful and safe and took the vehicle in right away we are being penalized now that the part has failed. the steering failure is a huge safety issue and i find it incredible that ford responded in this manner. we are getting the part replaced at our cost at pearson ford in aberdeen, sd and i believe we should be reimbursed for this repair and ford should change this dangerous policy before someone gets hurt.
My complaint is regarding ford safety recall # 14s05. loss of power steering due to torque sensor failure. ford issued recall in july 2014. my vehicle was inspected in august 2014. software was updated and torque sensor was found to be functioning and was not replaced. the recall pertained to loss of power. the vehicle would default to manual steering. i purchased my 2008 ford escape in oct 2014 and was not aware of the recall. ford says the recall was complete. i disagree and am filing this complaint.

2008 ford escape. consumer writes in regards to power steering assist safety recall. *ld the consumer wanted to be included in a power steering assist recall. the vehicle's vin was not included in any recall. the manufacturer refused to include the vehicle in the power steering assist recall. *js
Loss of electric power steering, just like other 2008 ford escapes. dash light came on that said "power steering assist fault" and while driving power steering completely went out.
The electronic power steering has malfunctioned. the steering wheel moves on its on while the vechile is started. the steering wheel is hard to turn while in "drive" or in "reverse". while driving from work, i experienced the steering wheel locking and was not able to turn the wheel at all. after turning the vehicle off, then back on, the electric steering started to work again but only for a short period of time.
We got suckered by fords recall in 2014 when they sent out the letter and updated the software to fix the power steering issue. which ford [xxx] well knew would not fix the faulty torque sensor. so here we are march 17 2017. my girl friend, our little girl and me. on our way back to my parents house, a 4 hour drive. after traveling down i80 for 3 hours we exited onto a two lane highway. not too long down this rural iowa highway out steps a small doe. (female deer) i make a quick direction change and aplly the breaks quickly. the exact moment the power steering went out. luckily for us i was driving and not my ol lady. as im almost certain she wouldn't have been able to get the vehicle corrected and kept on the road. this is ludacris that ford has not been made to remedy this problem. they [xxx] well knew it was an issue with this faulty sensor when they came up with the scam recall in 2014. how could they be allowed to continue to let families drive with these ticking time bombs. how many childern need to die before something is done parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Escape recall 14s05. while driving down route 40 in elkton maryland, the steering locked up making if very difficult to drive/steer the truck. this occurred after receiving a recall letter and taking the truck to elkton ford for the recall repair. we took the truck back to the dealer, let them know what happened and they said that ford motor company would not let them repair. note: they did not complete the repair as outlined in the recall letter.
A vibration in the steering wheel that is evident by a knocking sound. this occurs while the vehicle is mobile as well as in the stopped or idling position. there are are videos online at you tube showing evidence of this exact same malfunction in a 2008 mercury mariner. an existing recall number of 14s05 is not valid on my vehicle, why not??
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle violently shook and the power steering became very difficult to maneuver the steering warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering column needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 156,717. updated 06/29/17*lj *cn
On march 11, 2017 when i got into my vehicle to drive it; the power steering did not work. i slowly drove it to the nearest ford garage who charged me to inspect it and said it needed a new steering column, cost $1400+ and was under a recall but the recall was no longer available.
I recently experienced power steering issues with my 2008 ford escape. i take very good care of my vehicle. i have never been in any accidents in this vehicle or had any mechanical issues. the steering wheel began shaking while driving it home on friday and became increasingly harder to steer. when this happened i was driving about 15mph in town. i parked it right away. the next day i was unable to turn the wheel at all. the vehicle starts but is completely unable to be driven. after researching more on this issue, i found that there was a recall on 2008 ford escapes for this same issue. when i called the dealership and explained what had happened, they had me give them my vin number. they then informed me that my specific vehicle did not qualify for recall repairs and the recall only applies to vehicles with a specific vin number. i wanted to reach out and see if there is anything i can do to get this resolved considering this is a mechanical issue out of my control and may be a manufacturing error. thank you for your assistance with this issue. Ford won't honor recall 14s05 they did a software update and but now i need an entire power steering torque sensor replaced and they won't cover that. other consumers have complained on line that ford won't repair your steering after having your recall software done. a ford escape recall gotcha ' recall 14s05, transport canada ... https://medium.com/@joewardpr/a-ford-escape-recall-gotcha-recall-14s05-transport-canada-201413-7f0d7ca0d84c mar 17, 2015 ... ford 'closed out' the recall after only updating software and won't pay for the ... a facebook group exists entirely about ford not 'honoring' recall #14s05 ....
Ford had recall 14s05 back in october of 2014. it was for the torque sensor on the steering column. if the part was already not working they had to replace the hardware. they said if it was not a software fix would do it. we had that done. now 24k miles later the exact part has gone out and ford is saying they will not replace it. i have to pay for it. that makes no sense. it went out on my back out of a driveway. if it had gone out while i was driving i would have wrecked. how can they not stand behind a recall like that? how is that possibly legal?
I was driving and lost all power steering. then a error message came on saying power steering sensor fault. i could have got into a crash and am really upset and feel like ford should fix this.

My husband was driving when power steering went out, he was turning left on to main road out of our subdivision, had to slam on brakes to avoid hitting cinder block wall, could of easily been killed. thankfully was going slow.
The power steering no longer is working. we are told it is a sensor problem. there has been a recall for other escapes from this year with this issue but not ours. it is same issue and should be addressed.

Power steering went out in the escape. only manual steering available. took to dealer and the torque sensor has gone out on my escape after the recall in 2014. ford states since programming was done in with the original recall in 2014 the recall was complete eventhough part of the recall included the torque sensor.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. while driving 10 mph and making a left turn, the steering wheel violently shifted in the opposite direction without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 144,000.
Power steering went out. i was told by a dealer there was a recall. i brought it to dealer and they said the car did not qualify for the recall. after hours of phone calls to ford, they said the recall had been done in 2014, prior to me owning it. the part is near impossible to find and the cost is quite pricey. i was led to believe this is a lifetime warranty. this is not safe to drive without power steering. ford should stand by their recalls. part #905-524 total cost: $565.00
In 2014 the power steering assit fault was fixed on this car,do to a recall i bought the car in 2016 after 4 months i started the car up and the fault came back. i had no knowledge of recall when i bought car. is this considered fixing the problem, or is it a still open recall? the car was sitting in the drive way when fault came up.
I was turning when i lost power steering and nearly crashed into other cars waiting at the intersection. i have a power steering assist failure light on. i previously had my car taken to the ford dealership here in brighton colorado after i received the recall notice several months prior in 2016. cannot afford the price for repairs and feel ford needs to fix this problem now.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford escape. after parking the vehicle, the power steering malfunctioned and caused the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. in 2014, the contact was informed that the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). the contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. the failure mileage was 195,000.
In may 2014 ford issued recall #14s05 for steering issues. the recall was 'performed' on my car in nov 2014, which consisted of a 15-20 software update. i'm currently experiencing the same steering issue and now have to replace the torque censor and ford is refusing to honor/assist/acknowledge the problem is residual of the initial recall. i'm forced to pay out of pocket for what should be still considered a manufacturing defect. after over a million vehicles being recalled, how do they figure a software patch fixed the problem? why should i have to pay for this expense. ford knows this is an issue with the vehicles and should have the decency to honor this repair at any time. ford customer service states that the recall is over 12 months old and the software was updated and they no longer consider it an issue. meanwhile, i'm currently stranded and will be out of almost $600 or more that i don't have! while driving home from a ford dealership service who was not very helpful or concerned, i lost almost all steering and narrowly missed going off the side of 64 west afton mountain in virginia. i'm missing work and stranded and will have to drain my account for a repair that is clearly a ford defect. highly disappointed in ford customer service and business ethics. if/when i get rid of this escape when funds allow, i will never consider a ford again.
Driving back from work on the street the car won't turn i got scare and stop the car right away until my husband picked it up is too dangerous ... this is the recall number 14s05 ... but ford refuses to fix it
My wife was driving on the expressway and the power steering stopped working which could have resulted in an accident. she took it to a ford dealer which pulled the codes and replaced the torque sensor. my car was not part of the 14s05 recall so apparently the recall does not go far enough. i am a certified master mechanic and re-certifed master 5 times but could not help my wife while she was in another state visiting her mother. the nhtsa recall # is 14v284000. i contacted ford customer relationship center and they offered no help. the car has 88,000 miles
