Problems with 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 STRUCTURE

Car accident occurred when vehicles back cab hydroplaned and fishtailed out of control at less then 25mph and hit a tree head on. no airbag deployed and driver was hurt.

Dash is falling apart. every day pieces are coming off. also i need to replace the heater core and i'm afraid the that the dash will completely fall apart.

I'm concerned the cracked dash will become sharp plastic projectiles if the airbag ever deploys.

i am the owner of 2002 dodge ram 1500 pickup truck and recently took it to the shop for a muffler repair. the technician that was doing the repair notified me of the extensive corrosion that was on the left hand side of the vehicles frame just under the driver side aft door. the corrosion is the worst i have ever seen and has deemed the vehicle not drivable. i had just pulled my camper the week before with my wife and 3 kids in the car. the frame is literally hanging on by a piece of metal 3 inches wide, the bottom and sides of the frame are completely gone in a 16 inch section. in my opinion it is completely unacceptable for a vehicle that is only 12 years old to be scrapped because of defective metal. not to mention that if i had not had my muffler repaired i never would have seen the corrosion and would have put my families lives at risk. how many owners have the same problem with their vehicles and do not even know? i have pictures but could not attach them to this message.....you really need to see the pics. *tr

Dash panel caving in and cracking all over. parts of the dash have broken off and fallen inside the console creating a possibly dangerous scenario of damaged wiring or debris flying off while traveling down the road. *tr

Vehicle has severe dash cracking. power windows are not working and lamp indicator will not shut off causing ongoing beeping. concerned that dash parts are stuck inside causing driving conditions to be unsafe. would like to be notified if an investigation has been done to remedy the problems at dealer cost. *tr

Driving on flat surface street, heard loud popping noise. later realized it was the dash popping and noticed multiple straight cracks beginning in the corners of dash vents, gradually expanding. creates multiple small, sharp shards of plastic. potential for numerous projectiles of plastic if ever the airbags were to deploy not to mention now that the entire dash is weakened small parts intermittently fall into the dash area causing electrical problems with all the gauges, causing warning lights to illuminate and potential for fire is obvious considering other dodge recalls for wiring problems in this model truck. *js

The dashboard has developed large cracks. it is distracting while driving and could possible be a safety issue. i also almost cut my hand when applying interior cleaner/shine this past saturday. i know i need to be careful but it is pretty ridiculous for this to be cracked so bad. dodge needs to step up and at least offer steep discounts to get this fixed. *tr

The dashboard on my 2002 dodge ram 1500 has developed a crack (6-7 inches long) near the air bag of the passenger. i feel this to be a safety hazard as the air bag deployment could cause particles of plastic to be thrown at high speeds throughout the vehicle. the vehicle is a used ram and it is unknown if the crack was there prior to purchase or not. because of the summer heat, the vinyl expands which closes the gap and now the cold weather contracts it and reveals the crack. this continuous expanding and contracting could cause, over time, the vinyl to become weak and break down further. *tr

Dashboard on my 2002 dodge ram is completely cracked and is falling apart. many spots on the dash that could severely injure an individual in the event of an accident because of these cracks when defrost is turned on pieces of foam and plastic shoot out. dodge will not replace or fix the problem. something needs to be done about this issue as it is a defect with their material within their vehicles. *tr

Noticed while driving that the right hand corner of the upper dashboard piece next to the window was rattling. upon further investigation found that two of the attachment post for the panel were completely separated from the upper dash panel on the under side of the panel which mate to a friction clamp under the panel.also noticed that the speaker grill was cracked and coming apart in the same area. note: the dash area has never been disturbed since new or has been in a wreck or has the dash had any kind of impact. perhaps if dodge had put more emphasis on quality than profit ,they would be in better shape. *tt

The dash cap in my dodge ram 1500 has cracked in several places. this has caused many very sharp shards of plastic that would be extremely dangerous in a collision resulting in unnecessary injury to any passengers in the vehicle. i firmly believe this should trigger a full recall of all trucks affected. chrysler is aware of the problem and will not voluntarily start a recall. i myself have cut my fingers and hands just wiping off the dash board while cleaning. i beg of you to start an investigation before someone is injured very badly in an accident by these shards becoming projectiles. this problem affects hundreds of thousands of these trucks. please take this very seriously! *tr

The dashboard in the 2002 dodge ram 1500 has multiple hairline cracks and pieces are beginning to fall behind the dash. i'm afraid that these pieces could negatively impact the function of the airbags, heating / cooling system, or other electrical components of the vehicle. if there is an accident there could be fragments that break apart and could potentially cause eye damage or severe lacerations. i have found multiple complaints from numerous owners concerning this issue. *tr

Thin cracks appeared on upper right of the main radiator, fluid leaking out. car had not sustained any accident and is a clean title. my conclusion is that inferior products/polymers were used to manufacture this radiator. this is not an aftermarket radiator, but the one that came with the vehicle from the manufacturer. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2002 dodge ram 1500 quadcab. while driving approximately 55 mph, the contact approached a turn however, the turn signal failed to respond when engaged. the windshield wipers, horn and rear brake lights became inoperable. in addition, both turn signals would not function upon activation. a certified mechanic inspected the vehicle and was unable to determine the cause of failure. in addition, large fragments of material separated throughout the dashboard surface. there were also numerous cracks within the dashboard. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the permanent malfunctions. the approximate failure mileage was 112,000.

Dashboard has cracked and pieces are falling into the electrical unit and ac units underneath the dash area. afraid airbag will be damaged as they are not protected with the dash missing. ac unit on passanger side is damaged and not working due to the condenser housing unit being exposed. other electrical issues have occured like loss of function of the speedometer and all gages. called the ram specialist at 866.726.4636 was instructed not under warrenty and nothing they could do to help. it would be our responsibility to cover the cost of 926.00 plus tax at our dodge dealership. this is a manifactor defect that should be covered by dodge. *tr

Have had a cracked dashboard for quite some time now, i have filed a complaint before and could not get a resolution from chrysler/dodge. my dashboard has cracked to pieces causing a safety hazard. finally my electrical systems have started to malfunction due to the pieces of my fallen dashboard falling on electrical components, there was a small short/fire that caused my cruise control to stop working and my dash lights also. i feel it has been long enough and something needs to be done before, someone not as lucky as me, gets really hurt from this safety hazard issue that has haunted us dodge ram owners for a long time. we need to get our dashboard replaced asap. *tr

2002 dodge ram 1500 cracked dashboard over air bag on passenger side . this problem seems to be happening too many dodge ram pickups from the 1993 model year through 2005 model year. the edge of the cracked plastic is sharp and pose a serious injury probability in the event of accident and airbag inflation. a person can easily cut their finger or hand while cleaning the dash are servicing the vehicle. *kb

2002 dodge ram 1500 5.9l sport. i paid a lot of money for this special order truck and now the dash is cracking all over????? never had a new vehicle do this in all my 54 years. i live in texas and i know it is hot,but it shouldn't be cracking like it is,none of my other cars or trucks are cracking at all, i take good care of all my vehicles so why is the dodge the only one cracking?i think it should be recalled to get this fixed!! *kb

2002 dodge ram 1500. dashboard has cracked and is continuing to not only crack but to disintegrate. it has large holes in it where the plastic has fallen off leaving very sharp irregular sections. some pieces have fallen off, and some have fallen in,... into the ducts and cavities under the dashboard covering. i believe it is a danger to driver and especially to passenger of the vehicle in the event of an accident, crash or even a sudden stop. it affects the working of the front window defroster as some of the pieces have fallen into the ductwork. i have searched the internet and this is a widespread problem in all parts of the country. replacement of the dashboard is over $1000. i think that dodge should held be responsible for the shoddy materials used in the making of this dashboard. *tr

Dash falling apart and has damaged heater box. defrost doesn't work which causes problems with windows fogging up. an accident waiting happen. also causes heat and a/c not to work. shards from the dash could cause serious injury or death from an accident. replaced dash and heater box and same thing happened again. this is a very costly repair! *tr
