I have a 2002 dodge pickup with a cracked dash. i had to replace the heater core and when the dash was removed i noticed cracks all in the dash. while removing the dash i and my helper both sustained severe cuts from very sharp edges of the broken dash. this prompted me to file this complaint because of the nature and shape of the cracks can cause severe injury or even death to occupants, especially children,in the event of a crash as well as cuts and abrasions when simply entering and exiting the vehicle. *tr

Dash components cracking and falling apart without abuse. not caused by sun or heat exposure. cracked dash panels pose a hazard due to exposed wiring usually covered and protected by dash. parts of cracking dash can fall into wiring and components housed in the dash, including airbag components. cracked dash panels are very sharp and can cause increased danger in case of crash or occupant impact with dash panels. three of these vehicles in our family, all with same problem of dash components cracking without abuse or neglect. aware of numerous other vehicles of this make with same issues. *tr

My 2002 dodge ram 1500 has cracked dash and it is very brittle. while researching online i found hundreds more with same problem. i believe this could cause an airbag malfunction or if the airbag does work it would throw pieces of the dash into the person causing major injures to that person. i believe that dodge should look in to this. they should recall and fix the problem before someone gets hurt. *tr

Dashboard cracking and holes in it. engine won't shift gears now and dashboard lights go completely out at times. *tr

The dash of the truck started with one crack about 2 yrs ago. now there are more than a dozen cracks. estimated cost from me to replace the dash over $1,000. this is obviously a manufacture defect and will definitely reflect what i receive at trade in. my first and last dodge. *tr

The dashboard on my 2002 dodge ram 1500 truck is cracking. what will happen in an accident? what happens when the passenger air bag deploys? will plastic fragments act like projectiles and hurt occupants? contacted my dealer and chrysler corp. with no help except for an option to replace for $1,100. why should the consumer pay for a defective product? i don't have $1,100 to fix this problem and then have no guarantee if i'm not just buying the same type of product (junk). if it has been revised, then chrysler knows it defective. *tr

Dashboard has so many cracks its a safety issue. 2002 dodge ram 1500. *tr

I have found through research of how to fix my dashboard which is now severely cracked that it's caving in, that dodge has known about this problem for years and is not fixing. this is a safety issue as there are now sharp pieces of plastic dash that could hurt myself or passenger in an accident or other circumstances. i was trying to find how to fix my dash but now see dodge is at least repairing some dashes or paying half towards replacing the dash. i should not have to pay to fix this problem if dodge is now starting to fix or at least address the issue. i currently have my 2002 dodge ram 1500, a 2004 chrysler town and country and a 2008 dodge grand caravan and have bought at least two dozen chrysler products and feel i have been a staunch supporter of chrysler, even through the hard times they have had. i feel this type of loyalty i have show should be rewarded with acknowledgement on repair of my dash. i am buying a new car next year and have started looking at other makes due to some of the quality problems i am encountering on all 3 of my current chryslers but the dashboard makes me the most upset because it has been known and not fixed for loyal customers like me or even new customers so that they will return and buy other chrysler products in the future. fix this dashboard problem now! it's the right way to do business with people/customers!! *tr

The dashboard has cracked in many places on my 2002 dodge 1500 4x4. full length cracks from windshield to driver, about 4 large ones and a few small ones starting. may be more cosmetic but if continues, it my affect driving. *tr

Starting in october of '08 i notice a small vertical crack in my dash on the top of my dash between the passenger airbag and the radio. since then the crack has grown and then a piece broke off and too my surprise is very sharp. *tr

The dashboard on my 2002 dodge ram 1500 is cracked and disintegrating. it has always been stored in a garage and the sharp edges present a severe safety hazard should the vechicle be involved in an accident. i have also cut myself on sharp edges while trying to attempt to perform maintenance on the vehicle as the dashboard is extremely brittle and breaks apart. *tr

Windshield fogging up on inside due to leaking hand holds. resulting in visual problems along with excessive moisture under the dash pad causing cracking. along with safety concerns with passenger side air bag working properly when needed and any other electrical problems arising from the moisture. dodge is aware of this problem and has done nothing to correct it such as a recall. i feel they must be held accountable for the defects. *tr

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 and may dashboard had one crack 2 years ago. since then multiple cracks have appeared all along the dash. may concern is the dash will fall completely apart or a piece will come loose and hit someone. thanks. *tr

The dashboard on my 2002 dodge ram 1500 is cracked into many sharp, loose pieces. at this point, it's not held together by anything. my concern is that in the event of an accident, the pieces could cause injury to any vehicle occupants. it's been cracked since 2008 when the vehicle was approximately 6 years old. a friend has the same make/model and has the same problem. *tr

Purchased vehicle used in 2006 with 34,000 miles. in june of 2008 i noticed a crack approx. 2" long in the dashboard on the passenger side starting in the tray, vehicle had approx. 53,000 miles on it. by september of 2008 the one crack developed into 3 cracks with 1 spanning the entire width of the dash along the centerline of the vehicle. now in march of 2009 with 69,000 mile, there are 5 cracks total and the dashboard is sagging and the defroster vents are starting to crack apart. the vehicle has never been in a accident, the only protectant used on the dash was recommended and purchased at the dodge dealership where i bought the truck. *tr

The dashboard of my truck just started cracking and pieces are falling off. i'm afraid its going to short something out. *tr

2002 dodge ram 1500. long perpendicular cracks in dash. bought perma plate warranty at time purchase. replacement of the dash costs upwards of $1500 by two dealerships. perma plate merely refunded me my $299 warranty. i take meticulous care of my vehicle. this is a defect as my car is typically parked in the shade. i am an airline pilot and my vehicle sits in covered parking. perma plate told me that this was common in the dodge ram 1500 model and directed me to do a web search. i was amazed at the high number of complaints reflecting the exact same issue. dodge should fix the problem free of charge. what an embarrassment to have such a nice truck cracking like this. lastly, from a safety perspective, the crack runs near the passenger air bag deployment location. i do not know if this crack would cause problems in an accident. i think it's fair to say that upon review of the high number of incidents here that dodge should address the issue with more than statistics...they should simply back their product. *tr

My 2002 dodge ram 1500 dash is cracking severely and i am worried that pieces of the dash are falling into the dash while, that while driving the pieces of the dash will cut vital electrical components including those for safety. my dash has been getting worse over time and i am afraid of what might happen if i am driving and the dash fully collapses. *tr

I was just driving along, crack my dash cracked from front end to almost the back. the crack caused me to jump swerve my truck almost causing an accident. dodge has been no help and my dash has deteriorated even more ever since, i'm getting very worried it might affect the air bags as all the dash pieces fall into the recess where the air bags are which would be a bad thing should there be an accident. *tr

I own a 2002 dodge ram 1500. of my many problems, my dash board has cracked. i am aware that i am not alone. when will something be done about this. if we want to have the us consumers continue to purchase us made cars, something must be done about the poor quality that our manufacturer put out. *tr

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 and over the past year it has developed multiple cracks on the dash. the major concern is the integrity of the dash around the passenger airbag. due to the cracking, if the airbag were to deploy, i fear that the cracked dash would cause multiple pieces of plastic to fly around the cabin. i would not write this complaint if i thought this were an isolated problems. i have read endless complains on blog sites of people with the exact same problem in similar years of this vehicle. this seems to be a systemic problem and is a safety concern that should be addressed by the manufacturer. *tr

I own a 2002 dodge 1500 pickup and keep it up very well. i stayed in a carport and is taken care of. the dash has begun to disintegrated and fall apart leaving wiring and other items exposed. i believe this to be a defect in material of dodge. *tr

Around the middle of april i noticed a small patch of paint disappearing from the roof of my truck. over the past few months most of the paint on my roof and other parts of the truck is coming off. *tr

2002 dodge ram 1500 with 67,000 miles - dashboard has cracked in 6 places. dealer says that it is a defect but will not replace. there are thousands of owners with the same problem and dodge will not stand by their product. *tr

The dashboard for my truck dodge ram 1500 2002 is cracked and i bought a premium warranty and don't cover the dashboard and the dodge parts want me to pay $500.00 for replace the dashboard is no fear and we need help. *tr

My dash on my 2002 dodge ram 1500 is cracked all to pieces. i take good care of my vehicle and the dash is still cracking more everyday. this problem is due to cheap plastic being used by dodge. i thought this might be an isolated incident, but i have found hundreds of others with the exact same problems. dodge doesn't seem to think that it is their fault, but with the large occurrence of this problem it has to be. *tr

Dashboard is cracking and falling apart. sharp edges are exposed causing a possible cutting hazard. *tr

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500. the dash is falling apart and chrysler or the nhtsa won't recall or fix this issue. it involves the 98-2005 models. this problem is not getting any better through the years. does someone need to get seriously hurt or killed to result in a recall? i am going to do my best to go national with this issue to get results from chrysler or the nhtsa. *tr

My dodge ram 1500 truck is a 2002 model. the entire dashboard is cracking so badly that large pieces are falling down into the electrical section. it gets worse daily and i'm afraid of a fire. *tr

Dashboard on my 2002 dodge ram is completely cracked and is falling apart. there are several jagged edges which are a safety risk that could cause severe injury if vehicle was involved in an accident. dodge will not replace or fix the problem. something needs to be done about this issue as it is a defect with their material within their vehicles. *tr

2002 dodge truck- daschboard cracked in 20 different places. both forward and rear pieces. if i were to have an accident it would shatter and could cause severe injuries. this should be a recall of upmost importance. i have seen thousands of complaints, same as mine. why the stall? *tr

About 6 months ago two cracks in the dash started, one in the middle of the dash by the windshield, the other one was on the right side by the air bag all the way down. this should not be . dodge needs to come up with a replacement for these two dash pieces, the value of the truck is now junk if not replaced. will the air bag still work right don't know. *tr

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 quad cab 4.7 litre engine. it has 82,000 miles and has developed several splits (cracks) on the dash. if you view http://www.carcomplaints.com/dodge/ram_1500/2002/accessories-interior/cracks_in_dashboard.shtml, you will see several of teh same complaints. the failure of tha dash could interfere with the safe operation of the airbag deployment system. dodge refuses to issue a recall. i suspect that replacing the dash would not solve the problem if the stock dashes are made of theh same material. it is either a plastic problem or design flaw. there needs to be a recall with a replacement item that will not create this issue. please do not let dodge hide behind this defect that may result in a death. *tr

For no apparent reason my dashboard has several cracks which appeared suddenly running the length of the dashboard from front to back. there is no other damage to the vehicle that would have caused this and the vehicle is well maintained. the cracks are primarily over the passenger side of the dash but there are also a few on the drivers side. i would hate to see what would happen if the passenger airbag deployed, it would probably turn the dash into a plastic grenade sending shrapnel around the cab and into the occupants. *tr
