My dashboard is cracking and falling apart in on itself i have tried blowing but it continues to crack apart and it is falling in on the dash afraid if its ever in an accident classic will fly everywhere and cut or kill someone. it started doing this in two thousand and ten after i moved to florida. and the paint on the vehicle hood quarter panels front and upper doors and around the lower doors is fading away. *tr
2002 dodge ram 1500 pickup truck. dashboard began cracking and now has totally cracked and parts have fallen into the defrost/air unit as well as causing sharp edges that can cause injury. afraid that if airbag deploys this will cause jagged edges of plastic to be propelled to driver or passenger, causing serious injury, in addition to the damage of the a/c and defrost. there have been ten of thousands of complaints about this and dodge refuses to repair this defect on their trucks from 1995-2006. *kb
Dash is cracking in multiple points near vents and now coming across the top of passenger air bag area. there is so many fine cracks across point near windshield and vents. if air bag was to deploy i feel that shards of dash will be flying within the cab due to the way that the crack is in vicinity of airbag. *tr
Cracked dashboard. dangerous due to sharp edges and possibly interfering with operation of airbags. *tr
The dashboard in the 2002 dodge ram 1500 has multiple cracks and pieces are falling into the a/c vents and the firewall. there are many sharp edges and loose broken pieces and i'm afraid if there is an accident there could be fragments that break apart and could potentially cause eye damage or severe lacerations. please address this issue with dodge as i have found multiple complaints from numerous owners. *js
The dash in my 2002 dodge ram 1500 is cracking and falling apart (defective plastic)and dodge/chrysler will not stand behind it's product. the air bag is right below & connected to the plastic that has cracked. i am worried that if the air bag is deployed that this plastic (which is very sharp pieces) will be very dangerous to anyone in the vehicle.i also pick up my grandchildren every day from school and the dash on my truck has broken in so many places that it is now falling apart and huge pieces falling out.this plastic is very sharp and could slice open anyone around it. i have always kept my truck parked in a garage since i have owned it(2002)-so the sun is not the problem-it is a defective product that was installed on my vehicle when built. i have contacted my dealership twice and they tell me that there is nothing they will do about it. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2002 dodge ram 1500 .the contact stated while entering his vehicle he noticed cracks on the dashboard. the manufacturer had not been contacted about the failure. the contact has found other complaints about this failure on the nhtsa website. updated evoq 03/22/11
2002 dodge ram - quad cab dash board cracked. only owner and no complaints on overall performance of the truck. but almost over night the dashboard developed nearly a dozen cracks all the way across. *tr
Main dash began cracking in multiple places. forward dash panel has now cracked and split into many separate pieces creating loose, sharp, plastic materials which pose a safety hazard in the event of a crash. some of the pieces have cracked away and have fallen behind the instrument panel and some have fallen into the duct work as well. having occurred on many dodge rams, this creates a wide-spread safety issue and not just an isolated incident. i strongly feel that a recall should be issued on the affected years and the faulty dash panels should be replaced by the manufacturer to prevent any unnecessary injuries or safety concerns. *tr
The dashboard of my dodge ram is disintegrating into sharp pointed shards of plastic. the plastic material which makes up the dash has changed in it characteristics so as to become quite brittle. the potential for these shards to become projectiles and/or anything coming in contact with the dash causing the dash to freely break apart into hundreds of knife-like blades and causing injury, is imminent. we have made giant strides in vehicle occupant safety by requiring shatter proof glass, requiring occupants to use seatbelts, etc. . now we are facing other dilemmas where manufacturers have introduced materials in the manufacture of vehicles which may negate those safety progressive innovation government agencies have worked so hard to implement. although my current concern may be preventive in nature i believe any reasonable and prudent person can easily deduce the potential for grave harm which may befall the consumer under the right circumstances. the dodge dashboard represents a clear and present danger to the occupants of these vehicles. *js
The dash board of my 2002 dodge ram 1500 is falling apart. there has been no abuse to what so ever but now i have a giant holes in it and its cracking all over the place. when i took it to the dealer ship they told me that if i want it fixed its gonna cost me almost $3000 (for parts and labor). i've already cut myself on a piece of sharp broken plastic so it very well could hurt someone. something needs to be done! *tr
For two years my dashboard has been crack in my 2002 dodge ram pick up truck. within the last two weeks the dash board is falling apart. i went online to see how much does a dash board cost and i find out about thousands of dodge ram owners with the same problem which ended up in electrical problems. i will like to know what can be done about it. i hate to keep driving the truck and end up in an accident. this is really a safety hazard to say the least and nothing has been done about it. *tr
2002 dodge ram 1500 dash is cracking. has potential to come dislodged in the cab and produce a flying object in the event of a crash, or to cause an accident if the dash falls apart while driving. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2002 dodge ram 1500. the contact stated that the dashboard was fractured completely. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.
Dash is cracking everywhere and pieces are falling off, doubt that if the vehicle was in a crash that the air bag would work properly, and if it did or did not, little piece of the dash would fly every where and cut the passengers and the air bag. contacted chrysler and they will do nothing below is chryslers response, like they threaten you that if you email again it will go in the corporate records, i told them i hope that it did. needless to say they don't understand how to retain customers and sell new trucks. thank you for your recent email, although it does not contain any information that would cause a change in the previous decision. your request must again be respectfully declined. any future communication related to this issue will be retained in corporate records. *tr
Dash of vehicle (2002 dodge ram 1500) cracking leaving very sharp edges. the dash has been cared for as per dealer recommendations. dodge has thousands of complaints but has failed to take any action. *tr
The dashboard on my 2002 dodge ram 1500 is cracking in multiple places. i've called every dodge dealer in town, and i've been told that neither they nor dodge will take care of this. *tr
Dashboard cracking - vehicle is always covered or garaged or under a covered parking spot. dash started cracking around may 2010 while living in oklahoma and has gotten progressively worse. pieces have broken and fallen into the vents, and when the defrost is turned on or when the ac is turned on, small to medium pieces fly out and can hit someone, myself or front seat passenger in the eye. and if involved in an accident where air bags are deployed, pieces could break off and do more injury to occupants. i have been hit in the forehead with pieces already. *tr
Dashboard cracked. *tr
I have a 2002 dodge ram with cracks all over the dash. recently a car pulled out if front of me and i had to slam on brakes. my young niece was riding in the passenger seat and extended her arms out in front of her. the seat belt worked but her hands and wrist were cut by sharp edges in the dash plastic. one cut was pretty deep and required 12 stitches. the crash exposed other sharp edges and some fell into the vents. they rattle when i go over bumps in the road. dodge needs to recall and fix this problem. i have a 74 silverado with original dash. *tr
Dashboard is cracking in several places and falling apart. i took the dash cover off to glue it back together and seen that the dash body is also cracking, after gluing the top dashboard back together, less than a month later cracks appeared next to the cracks that i glued together. it is only a matter of time before the dash body collapses. *js
Dash is continuously cracking and falling apart. *tr
Dashboard has two very large cracks all the way thru it from the front by the windshield all the way to the back of it, and a third crack is now starting to form. i've owned this truck since it was new and have taken good care of it and believe that dodge installed an inferior product in their 2002 dodge ram pickup trucks. *tr
The dash in my 2002 dodge ram 1500 began cracking in january 2010. it is now september and the rear trim section has four cracks which have allowed the center grill to fall inside the dash. the front or main dash has a crack perpendicular to the windshield over the glove box area. the center of the dash is cracked from the rear edge to the front leading edge and appears to be getting wider. what once appeared as a hairline crack now has widened and appears as though it is becoming very unstable. this type of dash while attractive should never have been used. the edges of these cracks are a very hard plastic and feel sharp. god forbid coming in contact with this material in a wreck. a padded type dash should have been used. did not do enough research before buying this vehicle. a recall by the manufacturer should be ordered. *tr
I purchased a 2002 dodge ram in 2007, in the past year i have noticed two cracks in the dashboard. *tr
Originally with no warning the truck would just die at intersections. now it is starting to die when driving, even while turning. my teenage son usually drives this truck and i am truly afraid he is going to get in an accident. with the vehicle only having only 73,000 miles on it, i would not expect such a dangerous thing to happen. i have seen many posts from others indicating the same thing happening to them. i think chrysler should be fixing these before someone dies. also have the cracked dash. *tr
My 2002 dodge ram 1500 has a cracked dash. there were no adverse conditions or abnormal events prior to the dash falling apart. after researching this issue, i have come to the conclusion that hundreds if not thousands of dodge owners are experiencing the same problem. i opened a case directly through the chrysler group llc. to correct the issue and they refused to help me. i find it hard to believe that a plastic dash that is cracking so badly that there are sharp exposed edges around the airbag is not a safety concern. i would like the nhtsa to follow up with chrysler about this issue and see what needs to be done to ensure that no one is injured by shrapnel from a defective dash.
Dashboard cracking apart. making me wonder about how safe vehicle will be in a crash. am i going to have projectile, possibly sharp, pieces of plastic flying about inside the vehicle? will air bags operate properly? ie: will air bags blow back into the dash instead of out to protect occupants? *tr
The dash cover that is closest to the windshield cracked causing pieces of plastic to brake off and enter the blower motor. there was also pieces of plastic from the dash that fell off and and made it to the floor board and could have blocked the brake or gas pedal. *tr
jan. 10, 2010 a very large crack appeared in the dash on my 2002 dodge 1500 pickup at first it was just a cosmetic thing ,but now all the wiring is exposed the vehicle turn indicators do not work when it is bad weather the windshield wipers don't work and the defrosters will not change from cold to hot. i went to the dealer they advised me it was not their problem ,but i have learned that i am not the only one this has affected and my problem is a serious safety issue. *tr
Dashboard started cracking in 2010 and has progressively gotten worse. it now has open holes and completely cracked. and since the last few months it is causing electrical failure and dangerous to drive. this situation i have now found out to be very common for my truck and now realize that this is not common wear for this or any other vehicle. chrysler has told me they are not excepting any responsibility for the product failure and that it's up to me to pay for the costly repairs. this is unacceptable as this problem is clearly a product defect that they are aware of and should at no cost to the consumer be fixed. *tr
Severely cracked dashboard. *tr
I have a 2002 dodge 1500 and the dash board is cracking and falling where the defrost blows and last winter i turned it on and a sharp piece of the dash cut my face. i ain't sayin it was bad but if it would had hit me in the eye and made me wreck and die then my family would own dodge. yall say its not dangerous and i would agree if that wouldn't had happened to me but it did and its extremely dangerous and i think yall should recall them and make dodge replace them and start making them better. i had a 98 gmc and it had no problem so they need to make them like gmc does and stop making everything so cheap before they kill everyone. *tr
Cracked dash board on a dodge ram 1500 im concerned that if i were to get into any type of accident no matter the speed and the air bag deploys that the pieces of the dash will also fly off causing injury to my passengers. *tr
Over a period of 6 months the dashboard on my 2002 dodge ram 1500 has began to crack and crumble away leaving sharp edges. there has never been any impact to the dash or vehicle. the plastic that the dash is composed of is brittle and weak. *tr
I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 truck my dashboard is cracking and falling apart. it wont be long before the dash falls into the truck. *tr
Dashboard on 2002 dodge ram has cracked from front to back. after reading all complaints on this problem, i believe something (recall) needs to be done. local dealership stated a cost of $2,550 to fix. afraid that this will cause electrical problems as has so many of the complaints read so far. it would be nice to see the government make dodge step up and pay for the cheap parts they put in their vehicles. got a suggestion. since the government owns dodge, why don't you put some of my tax dollars towards fixing my truck. i know i can't afford $2,550. *tr
Cracking dashboard on 2002 dodge ram 1500. safety issues with sharp edges and loose pieces. numerous complaints throughout internet sites of same problem. dodge has not issued a recall. model years 1998-2006 involved. *tr
The dashboard of my truck just started cracking. i'm afraid the direct sunlight is going to damage or short the wiring. the damage may cause failure of components. also if accident occurs pieces of the dash may end up hitting the persons inside. *tr
I wanted to know what could be done about the dashes that are in dodge rams? you can browse the web, and i'm not the only one, but all the dashes in dodge rams from 00' up to 02' are cracking, and dodge refuses to do anything about it... here recently, they released a recall for steering wheel columns, but still not even the slightest budge as to a dash recall. it is happening in dodge rams all across the u.s. proving that it is not just the southern heat that is causing this, but rather a defect in the material. the dashes crack without the slightest sign of sun damages, spots, or fading... please investigate this... the dash also covers major wires that are the key for the vehicle, and if they melt or get wet, it could cause major malfunctions of the vehicle and could cause serious injuries. *tr
I own a 2002 dodge ram 1500 and i have been noticing that the dash has been cracking and then it began to crack more to the point of having no dash at all. i don't think this is just a cosmetic defect it is a safety issue. it doesn't take a hoard of inspectors to see how this can cause damage to occupants in the truck. lets just forget about the safety issue for a second, after buying a dodge intrepid and have the motor fail at 60,000 and i said " i will never buy another dodge", but i gave dodge a second chance because i liked the look of the truck inside and out. with that said i don't mind replacing the control arms where the ball joints are welded in, at a cost of 600.00 dollars. wish i would have looked at that too, but having to replace the dash is not justified as an expense that i should have to pay for. if i sold this truck to someone i know the first thing they would say, "that doesn't look safe and makes you wonder what else is unsafe with the truck." it does make you wonder about the rest of the truck, did they cut corners on other parts of the vehicle? let me ask nhtsa when you get in your vehicle to go home after work and your dash started cracking, to the point of your speakers falling out when you hit the brakes would you feel safe. that's my story and i am sticking to it. *tr
My 2002 dodge ram 1500 dash board has been cracking and steadily getting worse over the past year. i took it to my local dealership and they told me they would only pay $500.00 towards a $1200.00 repair. *tr
The dashboard on my 2002 dodge ram 1500 has started to crack. this will only get worse and will lead to potential safety problems with this vehicle. dodge has been aware of this since 2001 and refuses to classify it as a safety issue and refuses to replace the item. *tr
2002 dodge ram dash panel falling apart , the air bag will eventually be affected. *tr
