Problems with 2009 Dodge Journey ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I have taken my vehicle to the dealership twice in the last two months, and it had been there about a week each time and they still don't know what is wrong with my vehicle. i submitted a complaint a couple of months ago and never heard anything back. when the temperature gets below 45 degrees fahrenheit my car goes haywire. all warning lights are on, speedometer and uconnect screen won't work, wiper blades are on and unable to turn off, my headlights are on but the controls won't work and my brights won't work. the dealership wanted 1600 because the 'think it is the tipm' but are unsure. well i changed the tipm myself for $330 and it is still doing it. i can at least return the one i bought and am only out $85 which is better than paying $1600 for them to tell me it didn't work. i have no idea what to do aside from selling the vehicle, but then the problem would just change hands. the dealership doesn't know how to diagnose this problem, and every time i take it there i'm out $100 and nowhere closer to knowing what the problem is or how to fix it. i can't be the only one having this problem, and would like an investigation into what is causing it because every time the weather gets cold, i have to drive without a speed or turn signals.

There was a recall on the airbags & airbag module.. they supposedly replaced.. the electrical wire is now messed up bc the airbag light keeps coming on & off, the drivers side front door control lock to lock the car will not work, now engine light comes on & off and the transmission was replaced, all new components, driving the car on jan 4th 2020 & the engine just stops on me at traffic light.. this car has had nothing but problems after problems from the 1st day i bought it from the sales agent that lied to me about everything.. there are recalls on my car that still never got replaced.. i am the new owner of this 2009 dodge journey sxt on (2/16/2018).. i was told i'm the 2nd owner, i am the 4th owner and was lied about if this car was in a accident.. it was in a accident to do with the transmission stopping and the ppl that had this car b4 me the report says it was side swiped passenger side on (10/18/2017).. found out more about the car i bought was in a major flood so someone didn't tell the truth & i was sold a car that has water damage & they covered it up and i been complaining since i bought this car... something isn't right with this car & i got ripped off, this car the transmission stopped on me and i almost got in a bad car accident.. i've had a mechanic at a dodge dealership tell me & my dad i was sold a car that has water damage etc... i am having problems with the airbag light on & off and this was a recall and should be redone, the engine light is faulty and the steering wheel and electrical still, along with the fob ignition switch..

My car is constantly unable to start im being told due to electrical issues. ive replaced the starter, battery, & alternator. there are all kinds of forums telling you ways around getting the car to start but no real fixes. some people spending hundreds and thousands trying to fix this issue by replacing fuse boxes, adding cables, replacing the entire computer system and more to no avail. while others just park the car until its paid off or sell it. its not fair and its inconvenient. dodge journeys 2009+ are all experiencing these issues.

Randomly, when trying to start the car, the engine will make a singular click sound but will not turn over. however, most of the time, when putting the car into neutral, it will start. sometimes it will take multiple times of putting car in neutral, back to park, for the car to start. the issues happens with both cold and hot starts (happens more often when in hot weather. we have taken the car into the dealer and they, "could not find any issues." the issue has occured over the last 4 years.

First the light turn on of the air bag (movement). in other night when i turn on the alarm it's start to activate on panic mode then i turn off the alarm wait for a various minutes and activate again (off), but in less than a minute start to be in panic mode. in other day (movement), says that was an open door and the locks start to put it many times, any of the doors wasn't open (movement). in the same day at night it's start to turn on/turn off the inside lights, put the locks, and the message of a door it's was open (movement). the alarm was on panic mode twice and the light's was againg turn on/turn off (off). the batterie, every time that i try to turn on the vehicule i need a booster to charge it again. the mechanics says that the alternator and the batterie are in good conditions has the voltage that needs to be operating. i put a new batterie but the problem persist. and turn on the light of other thing on the panel.

Takara recall. the horn will randomly go off. and so will the alarm.

All of the buttons stopped working in the driver's side door, along with the two back doors. the windows, locks, etc do not work because of this. the airbag light keeps turning off and on. now all of the wiring is acting like it is messed up. the brake lights keep coming on, the car randomly won't start, the overhead light comes on when the right blinker is used. now the car won't shift out of park 8/10 tries. the car also acts like it loses power randomly while driving in town. these problems have been listed as recalls, yet my car is not on the list.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. while the vehicle was parked, the contact removed the key from the ignition switch, but the engine did not shut off. the contact had to remove a fuse from the fuse box in order to shut off the vehicle. the vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or a dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 101,000.

On several occasions my dodge journey has shut off while driving and while sitting at a traffic light. some instances occurred while turning at a traffic light or driving straight ahead on a local city road. the check engine light, traction equalizer warning and air bag lights all come on just prior to the car shutting off most times. other times there is no warning until my steering wheel and brakes lock up indicated that the car has shut off. i've had the car serviced for the engine amongst other repairs and the problem still persists and the codes clear only temporarily. the car lights dim or flicker and the car shakes sometimes when starting up indicating that the car will not hold power to drive. the battery is good and the mechanic has stated that the issue is electrical.

I bought this dodge journey sxt last yr 2/16/2018, i asked the salesman if there's any recalls or anything wrong with this car.. he said only need to replace the rear tires.. i contacted a lemon law lawyer the next day after getting the tires replaced bc he lied to me, the tie rod & ball joint had to be replaced, on top of that i found out there are (4) recalls on my car that were never taken care of, so dodge chyrsler dealership replaced the front/back airbags in (mar/april)of year 2018.. i received the recalls to my phone, to top that off i purchased this vehicle in cash over ($4,263.00), the lemon law lawyer told me to go to a website to get the history on my car i bought, it was involved in a car accident on passenger side on (10/18/2017).. i was lied to totally, i almost got rear ended bc the transmission stopped on me, my sister raised $$ to get transmission replaced, now had to put new brakes/new battery/new starter/another new tire/ then the hub assembly broke along with the sway bar arm, the electrical system is faulty & car starts but then if i go anywhere & then try to start to go home, it won't start & the fob key needs to be replaced as well.. this car is a safety hazard, too many problems that shouldn't be happening..it has stopped on me too many times to count, i'm at thee point i afraid to drive it.. this vehicle has (2 recalls) that have not been taken care of yet, i had to call canada to tell them i bought the vehicle bc they didn't have me as the new owner, i didn't get any recall notices in the mail bc i just bought this car last yr & it was at a dealership, they never took care of the recalls,, i was sent a notice to my credit karma acct telling me there's 4 recalls but the airbags are dismissed bc they were taken care of,. i have 2 recalls that have not been repaired.my ignition switch hasn't worked from the day i bought this car,it's loose.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled on several occasions. while driving approximately 60 mph on a major highway, the vehicle stalled causing the contact to crash into a brick wall. the drivers side air bag deployed with force however the front passenger side air bag failed to deploy. the driver sustained neck pains, body pains, muscle spasms in the left arm and scarring to the left arm. the front passenger sustained head, mouth and face injury due to no air bag deployment. both received further medical treatment. a police report was filed. the vehicle was not diagnosed and a dealer was not contacted. the contact was unaware that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v373000 (air bags and electrical system) as the vehicle was not purchased from a dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the failures and the crash to determine if they may open an investigation. the approximate failure mileage was 146,000.

This is just too much. i have had nothing but problems with this vehicle. sometimes it crank and then it won't. i can get in it and drive to work, but by the time i get off it will not do anything. the lights and radio work but the car will not turn over. it's like it will work for awhile but after turning it off it could take hours to start up again if it starts up. and yes i have also tried the putting the car in nuetral, but when it don't turn over you can not change the gears.i don't hear any cranking noise, the truck just lights up. i have had a new starter, battery, and alternator put on. i have had this truck pull home on a tow truck from work and soon as they unhook it it will starts up...i have two young kids and i have had the experience of going to a gas station in the evening after getting off work and after turning off the car it will not crank. the horn just starts honking on its own sometimes,and the theft system alarm light almost never stops blinking. i have spent more than i almost paid for the vehicle, and still have to uber places. this is a major issue that needs to be resolved. took it to the dodge dealership and they want you to leave your vehicle there for about 4 days and want to call you with a ridiculous money quote. come on dodge how much more do your customers have to suffer from a problem you don't want to fix. a very concerned consumer and parent.

My dodge journey is starting sometimes..and will not start at other times. there have been hundreds of driver complaints .dodge is not addressing this major problem. driving fine..park it..get in and it will not start. it seems to be a problem with the electronics...computer issue. dodge should know. due to all the same complains they are receiving. they need to do a recall. it has been happening intermittently last time 3/25/19. .

My car fails to stay started when sticking the key in the ignition.

Battery goes dead all the time, check enjine light, traction light, loses power going up small hills, won't shift, air bag light stays on, testing says it has a battery drain, cam shat sensor light changed but still says bad, we put a new battery in but doesnt help.

I've had the car for 2 years. since i've had it, it would randomly not start, the heat would only work in the back vents. got everything fixed associated with starter, battery, everything. for the last 6 months, my engine like has been on, and an esp light. i got the engine checked, brakes fixed, routers, brake pedal switch replaced and it's still doing the exact thing. gear won't shift sometimes but it isn't the transmission.now they are saying possible electrical issue but this has been going on for months! after i've put more than 1000 into everything that has not fixed the issue.

The car would randomly fail to start. sometimes the battery would completely drain. putting it in neutral would sometimes work but not always.

Journey would not start despite healthy battery & other components while stationary. had happened multiple times after being driven for about 30 miles or after sitting overnight. have been told they don't know what is causing the issue. hundreds of other dodge owners complain in online forums about the same issue. problem didn't start until we had the recall repairs done for the ignition and airbags.

Bought a used 2009 dodge journey in february, have replaced the battery and starter in the last few months. sometimes we can start the car normally, sometimes you have to jump the car off. yesterday, the car would not shift or start, tried the neutral safety switch which enabled me to push the journey but still would not crank. research online shows that many other consumers have or are experiencing the same problem. i feel dodge needs to take responsibility and figure out why these vehicles are malfunctioning. it's costing us money and time we do not have trying to chase down an electrical issue. i even had the pcm checked out and it too was in a good bill of health

Car does not start after being parked - sometimes when turned off for a short time (like getting gasoline), sometimes at the end of a work day or overnight. the car will sometimes start on its own after leaving it alone for more than a few hours. car has been into shop several times and has had the following done: changed to new battery 2x, checked alternator, ran computer diagnostic. this has happened 4 times in the past years. the car "clicks" one time, power windows and radio still work. we are afraid this will keep happening.

I have had nothing but problems since day one of buying this car. intermittently lags or does not start for long periods of time. radio goes in and out lights come on and off while driving. sometime the brake lights work sometimes they dont no one knows why. got stuck in a parking garage for nine hours one day because the car lost all power could not put it into neutral and i could not find a tow truck small enough to tow me out. then 9 hours later it started. now i smell burning under the dash and my ac only works on the passenger side while the driver side blows out hot. there is definitely something wrong with the wiring of this car. this car has been to the dealership over 20 time under warranty for almost all the same problem with jo resolve. they cant recreation the problems so i pay deductables and rental car fees to get back the same broken car.

For the millenth time since purchasing this car in 2014 it failed to start again!!! i have had ever mechanic under the sun check electrical connections, batteries, starters, alternators, fuses etc. they find nothing wrong but the car continues to simpley not start. i've read a lot of people have the same problem with this car. did anyone ever figure out why and what dodge is doing about it? sometimes it happens when my car is parked angled. sometimes on flat pavement. i got stuck with my newborn daughter shortly after i purchased the car and went back to depaula dealer i purchased it from in albany ny and they apologized and said they checked everything and nothing is wrong with the car. i'm scared to be stuck with my kids somewhere and honestly tired of sending it to the mechanic only to hear they can't find anything wrong. any ideas or directions to give the mechanic would be great. does dodge actually have the answer and just don't want to issue a recall. i don't care if i have to pay to get it fixed. i just want to know what needs to be fixed!!! thank you

Faulty tipm . car starts intermittently. dealerships and all mechanics are unable to resolve. there are dodge forums everywhere complaining about this problem why wont dodge recall it already? my antitheft light comes on and disables the car. when trying to start the car, some days it starts and some days it doesn't. no error codes coming up. the dealership has replaced battery, alternator, neutral safety switch, and starter.

When a certain light appears it causes my brake lights to go out. i have been pullover multiple times and almost in accidents because of this. i have children. i have replaced multiple bulbs for nothing. this car has been an safety hazard. i worked sooooooo hard to pay off i should be able to have a safe reliable vechile. i am a cna i have clients that i need to transport and i cant which is causing me to be broke because i cant work. if you have a heart please please help me and my family.

Car will not start, only clicks. sounds come from the stereo. this has been an intermittent problem for about 5 years (i bought the car new in december 2009). i have replaced the battery twice. this problem has gotten worse, as it happened yesterday and again today. it jumps easily.

Car will not start at times, have to let sit for about an hour before it will start. have been having issue for months. changed battery but that has not helped. i have power to the car but the engine will not turn over. sensor in steering wheel for airbag is also loose, light comes on and off

Horn randomly sounds off while parked, while driving. started july 2018. august 2018 took to a dealership, who could find nothing wrong. also, wrote to chrysler corporation noting the problem. dealership said they never heard of the problem. chrysler kept referring me to dealership. no help from either. i researched and found there is a huge problem with the tipm and can cause the problem i am having. as of september 15,2018, neither dealership nor chrysler corp will listen to me about the tipm issue. i now drive with no horn (found out how to remove the fuses), causing a huge safety risk. i need help and no one will help with this prolem. horn has sounded in parking lots causing people to get angry as they think i am honking at them or people have come running out from buildings to see what is happening, one time horn sounded as an elderly lady entered a crosswalk and it scared her horribly, it sounds while driving causing other drivers to become angry because they think i am honking at them. my car is unusable if i leave fuses in...dangerous if i take fuses out.

Car experiences intermittent ignition failure. while stationary with key in ignition, it will click but not start. we have replaced the battery, alternator, and starter but it continues to have issues starting over the past 3 months. sometimes it will start fine, but other times it takes several tries over a period of 30 minutes. the mechanics cannot find the solution to this problem even when able to duplicate the issue.

I've had nothing but problems with my dodge journey my rpm ramp up to 4-5 whenever i attempt to go 40-45mph the check engine light is on. i took it to button dodge and they fixed something that has to do with my transmission. less then a month later it starts doing it again. so can you give me some advice on why. also my locks and windows and turn signal don't work right.

The car sometime does not start after turning off engine. in order to restart i have to put my foot on the brake pedal, turn key to run with out starting, then shift lever to neutral, then turn key to crank motor to start. most of the times the car starts as normal, but sometimes i have to put car in neutral to start motor. moving the shift lever around seems to do the trick.

Rear parking, backup and licensed plate lights stop working due to wires broken inside the harness coming from vehicle to rear door, all the wires were broken inside the wire loom at top of the rear door to the vehicle, this is a common problem with this vehicle, the wires break depending how many times the rear door is open/close. stranded cable wires use in this place are bad quality, like 7 wires inside the cable.

Drivers side airbag conector burned out causing airbag to error and not deploy. airbag light activated while parked.

Vehicle will not start. replaced battery, replaced starter, replaced relays and fuses, cleaned connections. 100's of reports with this problem all over the internet. putting the car in neutral does not help.

Master window switch quit working, bought a new switch that didnt fix it and so i did some research and see there was a recall on these vehicles for the copyright 2011, chrysler group llc, all rights reserved february 2011 dealer service instructions for: safety recall k07 front door wiring harnesses 2009 (jc) dodge journey note: this recall applies only to the above vehicles built from november 01, 2007 through november 07, 2008 (mdh 110122 through 110723) which also effects my lighting and possibly airbags . i have children that's not acceptable .

After buying the car from the dealer we drove home and stopped to get gas. the car would not start. finally after locking and unlocking the doors it started. since then every day i drive it i continually have issues with it starting. once while driving down the road it shut off and stopped. almost caused an accident. now i can not even get it started. i have a baby and rhought this would be a perfect vechile. i can nit trust it for the safety of my child and myself. i can not be stranded in the arkansas heat with a vechile that repeatedly has issues with starting or keep running while driving. i have had it checked and no one xan find an issue with the car. very concerned with safety of car. very disappointed.

While driving at 65 mph on a highway the horn started blowing all by itself. the radio volume also decreased by itself. this continued intermittently for approx 30 minutes.

How can you take your car to a dodge dealer and still can't get help! why does my car read 37 codes? why is my abs tracking light on causing me not to switch gears? why is my airbag light on at all times? why does my back up camera not come on when needed? why haven't they recalled this piece of trash they call a car? i can't go anywhwer with out it not starting and needing a jump. i'm out of about 2000 and still no answers! why haven't i received any recalls?

Not right,, transmission stopped on me driving, k & m dodge mechanic says it's not my fault that the transmission just stopped on me while driving, he said the 2 gear isn't there, this is 2 times now i almost got killed, to top that off i purchased this mused vehicle on 2/16/2018 & paid cash of $4,263.00 i asked if this car had any problems bc i do not want to put any money into it.. he told me & my parents only needed rear tires, i asked if it's neen in a car accident, he said no.. he said i will be the 2nd owner,, something isn't right, so i took it in on 2/17/2018 to get 2 new rear tires & omg, are you kidding me,, this car didn't have any airbags, electrical system was messed up, had to have a oil change on 2/22/2018, then it went in repair shop on 2/26/2018 for recall on airbags, then got it back on 3/26/2018, just for it to go back in on 4/1/2018 for a ball joint/tie rods/rotors/brakes front & back/ wheel alignment/new battery you got to be kidding me,, i am pissed as heck, found out i'm the 4th/5th owner,, it was in s car accident passenger side in oct 2017 car stalled on ppl, minor frame work, car is missing lots of parts, then i had to buy another tire front passenger side, key fob doesn't want to start car,,then i almost got hit driving bc ignition stopped on me driving,, then had starter replaced new on 8/26/2018 to top that off on aug 28 car stalls again, friend comes over with meter to check out car statistics & says car needs the transmission control modular reset so i can drive, so then try to drive car on sept 5th, won't move, so i have to get rides, then on sept 12th start up, try to drive it & the car stops, tried to drive it back to k & m dodge on sept 12th 2018,, it's been there since that day bc not drivable, needs a new transmission, i can't afford bc i am on disibility (social security disabilty), i called a lawyer on 2/17/2018

The car completely shut off going down the road and everything electrical went crazy and the horn wouldn't stop blaring. i couldn't pull over or anything because my steering and my brakes went out. the car finally turned back on by itself and now the window wipers, blinkers, and door locks do not work.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge journey. the contact stated that the eps warning indicator flashed and the power steering failed to function. the steering wheel became extremely tight and there was an internal electrical failure, which caused the radio and brakes not to work. in addition, the brake indicator was illuminated. the dealer (transitowne jeep chrysler dodge ram of west seneca, 2989 transit rd, elma, ny 14059, (716) 674-6400) diagnosed that the return power steering hose, cooler, and abs unit needed to be replaced. the manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from the unknown abs and brake system recalls and had not provided an electrical solution to the dealer. the vin and failure mileage were not available.

For the 2nd time since i purchased this car 2 years ago, i have lost power steering and had to pay to replace it. this car has been a lemon since i purchased it. first the head gasket blew, then i had to replace the radiator, then the ignition switch, now power steering twice. this car is nothing but a money pit. i tell everyone i know to stay away from dodge

The pcm needs to be replaced. i don't know much about cars so i don't know what this means. the dealership did a diagnostic test and i was told i needed to replace the pcm.

This vehicle will intermittently not start (usually once every 3-6 weeks). after sitting for 15-45 minutes, the car will start. it has been taken to two dealerships and one of those dealerships even replaced the ignition (at a cost to me of over $700) and that did not fix the problem. there is no rhyme or reason to this and no one seems to have an answer. one dealership even kept the vehicle for several days and could not replicate the issue or find the cause. from what i have found online, i am not the only person with this same issue. the latest episode was december 8, 2017, but this has been an issue for several years, basically since i purchased the vehicle used in 2013. i also contacted dodge directly and they opened a case (#32993255).

I was stationary in a parking lot. my vehicle has electrical problems when it gets below 50 degrees f. all of my dashboard warning lights come on and my gauges won't register including my fuel, rpm, and speedometer. my turn signals won't work and neither will my emergency hazard lights. my door locks and window controls work intermittently when this happens. my navigation screen/back-up camera will not work and my wiper blades and headlights stay on even though the controls are set to off. my wiper spray nozzles won't work and neither will my high beams. it will stay like this until my vehicle warms up, usually about 20-30 min. i am a nurse and often have to take call at night, so sometimes i don't have time to let it warm up. i have had to download an app that will tell me my speed and pray i don't get into an accident. i have taken it to the dealership multiple times and they can never find the culprit so it just wastes my time and money.

Have lost most controls from drivers door switch, only thing that works is rear windows. all other 3 doors work fine independently. vehicle had the k07 recall done in feb 2011. since then, there was intermittent auto/up-down on both front doors. now i have lost function as mentioned before. the vehicle has been at local dodge/chrysler dealership since 14 november for diagnosis and repair. they cant figure our problem. chrysler corporation was contacted by me for assistance on 19 nov. as of this message, still no final diagnosis and repair. all they do is keep changing parts as directed by chrysler. we are extremely frustrated with this situation and my gut feelings tell me there is a failure with the k07 recall and/or key fob recall number r03. all these components are related electronically. sincerely think its time for the nhtsa to relook these 2 recalls with chrysler corporation. *tr
