Recently reported AIR BAGS problems on 2010 Chevrolet Malibu

The front passenger side air bag warning light keeps going off. purchased car used and i am not sure of the problem. i want to be sure that this is a saftey issue for someone in the front seat. no accident yet,but i have concerns. it is on going as to a certain date.

I was stopped, went to accelerate, and sudden hard shift as it accelerated. after a few miles, lost all gears after 2nd gear.on interstate at time when lost gears & close to getting into major accident. took it to asc certified mechanic to learn that the transmission failed, wiring from battery to started burned up,battery failurem alternator failed, and ecm failed as well. repair cost approx $4600.00. service airbag light & check engine light on also & p0013 code. looked up veh history, shows recalls on some of this were supposedly performed, but hard to believe. 6 speed transmission, so gm won't honor.

When driving car air bag light has flashed on and off on three separate occasions each time as soon as steering wheel move position the light goes out there is a recall for the make and model year but my vin is not listed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving 20 mph in the snow, the contact crashed into a telephone pole. the air bags did not deploy. there were no injuries. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to a junkyard. the manufacturer filed a claim for the contact and stated that the air bags should have deployed. the dealer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 120,000.

My right front headlight (regular low beam) keeps going out and having to be replaced. my mechanic replaced it in july of this year, and again in october, and it is out yet again, not even two months later. my mechanic can't find any reason for it. in addition, my service air-bag light is on, although it's never gone off, and the entire transmission had to be replaced at about 63,000 miles. regarding the light - so far, i've been lucky that it hasn't contributed to any kind of accident, especially since deer are very active at this time of year and are very common in our area.

Service esc, service traction control, service air bags, brake lights on when pedal not pressed and not on when pedal is pressed and cruise control doesn't work periodically. these message appear off and on while driving. i have had the sensor under the brake pedal replaced twice now. last time 14 months ago so no longer under warranty and needs replaced again.

Air bag light goes on and off. when off and i hit a bump it turns back on. i have children and i am scared of an emergency it will not function.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact received a notice regarding the wiring connector for the side air bags. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be repaired or diagnosed. the manufacturer stated that if a related warning indicator illuminated, then the vehicle would be serviced per the 'special coverage program'. in addition, if there was no warning indicator illumination related to the failure, the contact would be responsible for the diagnostic fees to determine if the vehicle had a potential failure related to the 'special coverage program'. the contact had not experienced a failure, but was concerned for his safety and the potential of a failure.

Service airbag dashboard warning light goes on and off intermittently both when car is at rest or in motion, especially when the car goes over a bump or pothole.

The brake lights illuminate without pressing on the brakes. i remember there being a recall before and i took my car in and it got fixed however it is doing it again. and my air bag light goes on and off all the time.

Pulled out of car wash and onto the highway (speed limit is only 40) through town, power steering went out and light began displaying with audible sound as well as service esc. the mileage on my vehicle is 150,760 when this occurred. there is currently a bulletin published referencing this problem (15356) in which it appears to only warrant a repair at manufacturer cost if 150,000 miles/ten years. from reading online forums, i am not the only one to "just" miss the failure and manufacturer reimbursement. this is dangerous and should be addressed no matter the mileage.

Tl* the contact owned a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while making a left turn at a green light, another vehicle struck the contact's vehicle on the passenger side. as a result, the contact's vehicle struck a pole on the driver's side. the air bags failed to deploy. a police report was filed. the contact sustained head and neck injuries the required medical attention. the vehicle was towed to a tow lot and deemed destroyed. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

Red warning :service airbag". checked vin on "takata recall" which says my vehicle is not involved. came on a week ago. goes off when i turn off car. usually comes on within 5 to 15 minutes of starting car. no indication as to which airbag.

The power steering sensor will suddenly go off and my wheel locks, i cannot turn my wheels, i feel really unsafe i almost crashed with myself and kids.

The seat belt keeps dinging like the seatbelt is not connected to the seatbelt latch and it is. the engine light comes on and off. i have taken it to the dealership the light goes off so they can never figure out what's wrong with it. except once which it came back to it being the solenoid sensor. they fixed it. but, engine light still comes on. the seatbelt dings doing the whole ride or if your siting still. the engine light comes on off and on. just bought the car 9/23/2017.

Engine power drops suddenly on highway or in traffic after 45mins of driving, reduced engine power, service engine, service airbag messages come on also esc message then engine stalls and moves at about 10mph from driving at anywhere between 30mph to 70mph. recurring for the last two months can't be fixed after several chevy dealer workshop visits and costs

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the driver and a front passenger had been seated in the seats, the vehicle was started and with no warning the side air bags on both sides inadvertently deployed with force. in addition, another air bag in the ceiling deployed as well. an unknown substance emitted into the interior of the vehicle. the insurance company was notified of the failure and the manufacturer to determine the cause of the failure. the dealer was not contacted. there were no injuries reported. the contact was waiting for the manufacturer to diagnose and provide a solution to repair the vehicle. the contact was uncertain if high humidity was a factor. the failure mileage was not available.

The "service airbag soon" message keeps coming on. i had a diagnostic done at the dealership. they indicated that the airbag module is faulty. the car is only 7yrs old and has less than 40,000 miles on it, this should not be an issue. since it is a manufactures faulty part i feel that they should pay for the replacement part as i do not feel safe driving this car!

Codes: b0014, b0021 abs wiring harness light illuminating "service air bag"

Side impact airbag didn't deploy when a car smashed into the side of me ... i was doing 30mph when i was hit on the passenger side. police report was made even tho the airbag didn't go off...

I was involved in a hit and run back in march 2017 the person backed into the pass-side of my car as i was driving 35 mph down the main road , the side impact airbag did not deploy from impact , the dealership said this is not a takata issue as they were replaced by the current recall and they don't know why they didn't deploy . the electrical issue is the onstar response system didn't detect the crash and call for help- i had to push the button to get help . the car can not get directions sent to it from onstar and the electrical keeps failing/loosing power and i was told to replace the batter and alternator but it still does it and the wires r fine . dealership told me to replace the computer control system but seems their guessing and i don't have $1,200 around to do it . the side impact airbag should of deployed and the onstar sensor should of detected it and called for help.

On march 1, 2017 at 28981 miles, the airbag light came on, (not the first time). the next day, the stability control and the abs lights both also came on. in both occasions the car was moving at about 40 mph on a city street. i took it to the dealer, they charged me $153 to get a diagnosis.they wanted another $850 to have it fixed. i took it to another shop that did it for $190. these were 2 separate problems, one was the airbag light (a connection under the front passenger seat), and the other was a sensor in the left front wheel (the stability/abs light).

Takata recall. i have a 2010 chevy malibu that should be included into the takata recall. i just purchased this car two weeks ago and "service air bag" came on while i was driving. after further investing, gm never issue an actual recall for the 2010 chevy malibu. instead they created a "malibu safety program" that only includes 2010 chevy malibu ending in the vin numbers of: a4100001 a4166698 af100056 and af271265. my vin number isn't included in this list. therefore i have to pay out of pocket. for an issue that is out of my control.

Service air bags light remains lit. i took the car to the dealership yesterday regarding a constant warning light indicating a malfunction of the air bag system. the service manager stated that it was caused by a defective airbag module and wiring harness. at that time, i was informed that the front air bags would not deploy in the event of an accident that required airbags.repairs would cost over $1100. nothing was done to the vehicle to cause this malfunction.

Air bag need service

Faulty passenger presence module , airbag warning fault light on. . the dealership recommended the replacement of the module at my own expense of $800. i feel that my family and my safety is at risk due to a faulty design that gm is aware of with its airbag components. airbags should be working for the life of the vehicle, and if they are failing the manufacturer should replace those faulty designed parts at no expense to the owners.

For the last 5 months mac ghana located in ghana at 105 spintex road accra ghana tel: +233 (0) 302813919, has failed to properly fix the recall nhtsa recall number: 14v252 recall date: may 14, 2014 (manufacturer recall number: n130036). also received letter in the mail stating the airbag needs to be replaced and the dealer has not replaced it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while the vehicle was stationary, the air bag indicator illuminated without warning and "service air bag" appeared on the instrument panel. in addition, the electronic stability control indicator remained illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

My "service air bags" light kept coming on and then remaining on continually. i found a letter written by the director of customer & relationship services at chevy back in 2010 that addressed this problem and stated that "to enhance side impact protection, your gm dealers will update the wiring harness for both front seat side impact airbags. this service will be performed for you at no charge." i contacted the dealer at messer chevy in lubbock, tx, and also customer service at chevy. i opened up case #8-2314213550 on 8/19/16, and i was told to get a diagnostics done at the dealer, which i did. i then found out the case had been arbitrarily closed the same day it was opened! now chevrolet states that the case was reopened on 9/7/16. i just want the problem fixed free of charge since the previous owner should have taken care of this when chevy was offering the "soft recall" repair at no charge. chevy called it a customer satisfaction program at the time to avoid an airbag recall media hype. i assume this isn't related to any takata airbag problem, but it is a potential safety hazard! i am getting the runaround from both chevrolet and the dealer, and i just the problem resolved. the dealer turned off the warning light, but no repairs have been done to date!

My service airbag light recently came on. it started only coming on when a passenger would get in or out of the car. now the light is on and sends me a notification that states "service airbag" across the display on the dashboard just under the speedometer. the light comes on as soon as i start my car and remains on. my vehicle has never been involved in an accident and the airbags have never deployed. why is the service airbag notification coming on?

The service airbag light appears and stays on when i start the car. the light never disappears.

I have repeatedly filed complaints with gm that my service air bag light stays on / my breaklight located in back window works opposite of what it is supposed to. i am notifing you in writing that gm has not done anything to help me. i guess if my air bag expolodes while im driving and i kill some folks in an accident i just want you to be aware

Check air bags warning light keeps coming on. does not always come on but the majority of the time it does come on. we have been hitting the "information" button and turning it off. happens when vehicle is in motion.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving 25 mph, the brake lights illuminated without the brake pedal being depressed. in addition, the service air bag error message was displayed across the message board. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 99,200.

The air bag light won't go off. where i brought the car they came it was a senor and they thought they fixed it but the light is back on it comes on when i'm driving

First repair, airbag service required. the dealership claimed it was a loose wire. 2nd repair, esc maintenance required, traction service required, engine power reduced, vehicle will not leave neutral. if gas is applied vehicle jumps and shakes. 3rd is same as 2nd and 4th visit is same as previous except when i received ownership of the vehicle it could not make it out of the parking lot. after mentioning the lemon law the dealership is now trying to blame this technically 5th visit on an ignition coil even though esc maintenance message was displayed with traction control, engine pwr reduced, the vehocle was still shakig, and now the check engine light is on when it wasn't before.

Service air bag soon alert intermittently comes on and goes off sometimes when restarting, other times after driving 15 - 20 minutes. had stayed on for 1 1/2 hour drive but when restarting was off. driving has been highway miles. can come on upon starting and while driving. dash board lighting goes off while driving, highway miles. sometimes does not turn on until 15 minutes of highway driving then go off again later. dial is setat brightezt point but not bright.

Tl* the contact owned a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 60 mph, the power steering seized and the vehicle crashed into a jersey barrier. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the air bags did not deploy and there were no injuries. a police report was filed. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14e044000 (steering). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was destroyed and towed. the failure mileage was unknown.....updated 07/05/16 *bf *cn

Air bag service system indicator light comes on and goes off. it says service air bag system. but it continues to do this off and on frequently.

Airbag lights are on will not go off.also says service airbags.

2010 chevy malibu lt2..apx 76,000 miles..**side air bag problems** i was pulling out of a parking lot going about maybe 10 mph and all of a sudden i hear a big like "gunshot" sound it was smokey and like a powder residue in the car causing me to cough a little and it felt as i got in a accident or hit something. my side airbag deployed for no reason there is no damage to my driver side or anything .. i am traumatized and just have minor injuries such as back pain, for a minute my head was spinning and i had a headache..i was just so confused as to what had just happened. it happened so quick thank god i wasn't going fast because it could have been a lot worse. to make even matters worse my 5 year old son was in back glad he was safe. gm really need to look into this major safety issue and address it correctly. now i'm out of a car basically until i hear back from them.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the air bag indicator randomly illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 134,400.

While driving home from work on october 2016 3 random lights on my dashboard appeared(engine light, service airbag light, esc). they stayed on for about 2 hours then disappeared for the rest of the day. the following day, all three lights appeared and did not leave for 3 days, then disappeared. then they reappeared for 2 days, then disappeared. the day after they disappeared, all lights appeared but the engine light. now i only have esc and service airbag which comes on and off.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was unavailable. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 78,000. update 01/15/16 ma *cn

Service air bag info comes on. never know when. may be connected to seat movement. passenger seat, i think. has did this occasionally fo 2 years. always went off before. now staying on. recall on air bag service connecter in 2011 completed. seems to have come on also while braking hard.

The airbag sensor goes off due to heat rising. especially in the summer when car temperature rises. this past summer i've had the sensor go off more than 3 times a month due to the excessive heat, i'm currently unsure if it'll even deploy correctly if i'm in an accident.i usually have to remove the airbag and then check for any damage to it and then re-insert it. airbag is still the original part, never been deployed before. i know a lot of other owners have had the same issue and have posted on chevymalibuforum.com.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the service air bag warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was repaired, but the failure recurred. the details of the repairs were unknown. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 45,000.

1 year ago my car flashed esc service traction control reduce engine power and reduced my spend to 40mph on a busy interstate! called gm stated what happen and i knew they had a recall but of course my cars vin was not included in the recall. brought the car to a local gm dealer ship to put on machine to see if any codes would show up nothing came up!!! i was told the message would have to be showing to service vehicle. well here we are a year later with the car in the shop because my car reduces engine power without warning stalls and my esc service traction reduce engine power came on message board but did not stay after i turned key of course because it shut the car off after 2-5 minutes. i have video of it reading esc traction service but that does not help! car now needs a new timing chain and has metal in the oil! mind you of i wouldve been able to service the esc traction control could this all have been avoided? my car was in the shop maybe 6 months ago and was put on the machine to get codes minor codes came up and not the esc traction control reduce engine power. called gm today and was told my milage played part in this but i doubt that only because at 68000 it flashed esc and shut off on me without warning so now they will contact the shop. they need to recall these vehicles it is a hazard to be on the road! we can not afford a new vehicle car this car was brand new but has been problem after problem ! headlights go out all the time airbag light stays on even after being fixed 3 times trunk does not open defroster thats a joke i could go on and on

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving at 65 mph, the air bag warning light and the traction light illuminated. the steering wheel became difficult to turn. the contact had to apply force to the steering wheel in order to turn the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the power steering and the air bag needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown. updated 5/5/15*cn updated 11/10/2015*js
