We have classified the 138 complaints from 2010 Chevrolet Malibu about EXTERIOR LIGHTING into the following categories.
Service eas warning light comes on. then the rear brake lights stay on. the service power steering warning light comes on & the car is very hard to control & nearly impossible to steer. this is extremely dangerous & unsafe.
I have a 2010 chevy malibu and the passenger headlight keeps going out. not burning out, but quits working! i have gone to change the bulb and we realized that it wasn't burnt out. all the other lights on that side work fine. we wiggles some wires and it would work again. a few times we could tap on the headlight assembly and it would come back on. so we put it together again and it worked fine for 2 weeks or so before it went out again.
The passenger side low beam headlight has gone out 3 times in the past 2 years. the fuse was not blown any of the three times.
Low beam headlights comes on and off. while attempting to drive at night the driver side light would not come on. the next morning it came on. a few days later the passenger side light would not come on. now both lights won't come on. i am only drive during daylight hours until they are replaced.
I dropped my 2010 malibu ([xxx]) off at matick chevy on 1/10/2020. i called 1/11/2020 and was told there was no charge and it was ready for pick up. that's all i was told. i didn't make it home before the same problem occurred: service traction error light on the dash board and all 3 brake lights are on - when no one is pressing on the brake. the car is in the garage and all 3 brake lights are on - no one is in the vehicle...i'm driving down the highway and all 3 brake lights are on - i'm not braking. this is a serious safety concern. today is 1/19/2020 and i still don't have my vehicle and have not received a call - despite leaving a message for the service [xxx], on 1/16/19. he advised that this vehicle is covered under a special warranty program or policy - 150,000 miles or the year 2025?. the vehicle is 10 years old - dealerships don't fix anything for free, so that "special program" is indicative of the company taking responsibility and knowing that you have a problem with this vehicle. i have owned gm products all my life and for the first time do not know if my loyalty to the manufacturer or brand will continue. i am very disappointed in the way this situation has been handled. the vehicle have been serviced for this same problem twice previously. the only saving grace is that i demanded a loaner. please help. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
The low beam headlights keep going out. the bulbs are not burning out. it's something in the elecrical that's causing this. it's very dangerous to drive at night because both headlights have gone off all of a sudden while driving down the road. i believe this is a huge safety concern & chevy needs to figure out what's going on & have a fix for it. after reading on a bunch of forums, this is a huge problem with these vehicles. after getting the bulbs to work, they only work for about 2 weeks then go out again. this questionnaire wants me to put in a date that this happened but it happens all the time for the last 4 years, so i'll just put in the most recent date.
Passenger side headlights have repeatedly gone out for the 7 yrs i have owned this car. i have changed the headlights at least once every 3-4 months. i have searched forums/messageboards related to car problems and this is a widely known problem with this model. to make matters worse, the bumper needs to be removed to replace the light which i can not do myself and i have to take it to a servicing shop which is very expensive. here is a webpage dedicated to the issues. https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t32066_ds667897?sntemlid=3535135585#msg1032451
The passenger side low beam keeps going out, even after repeatedly replacing headlight. just yesterday, the driver side went out too so no low beams usable currently. my reading has brought me to the conclusion that in 2008-2012 chevy malibus, the daytime running lights are pulling voltage from the low beams which is increasing the amperage in the low beams which is causing overheating and therefore the bulbs and connectors to go out repeatedly.
My passenger side headlight wont stay on. when it died i went to replace it and it turned on so i went to put it back together and it turned off again, so i took it back a part. i went through that a few times before giving up
Both low beam headlights just quit working but the fuses are good and the headlights aren't a month old.
I had to replace the wiring harness for the headlight unit due to the low beam connector melting and now only 3 months later, both low beam connectors have melted leaving me with no headlights. this is a very common problem on these cars and a huge safety issue. both times this has happened, i was driving. once on city streets and twice on the interstate
I was having an issue with my third brake light at first it would go on an off then somedays not work at all. in order for my vehicle to pass texas inspection it needs to work all the time. i went to the dealership today because there was a recall but the recall didn't not cover the repair because it was a faulty circuit board in the tail light itself the recall covered the bcm. i've seen alot of complaints about this issue that i had. it's a very expressive repair about $640. i would assume since it's a safety issue it should be recalled as well.
The high-mount brake light will light (and stay lit) without the brake being depressed. when the brake is depressed using normal force to slow the car, the light will go off. when the brake is depressed further as if to stop the vehicle, the light comes back on. this behavior is intermittent.
Brake lights remain on while pedal's not activated, and turn off when pedal is pressed. esc and traction error messages appear while driving, usually when coming to a complete stop at any given time. the lighting issue seems to coincide with the appearance of said error messages.
My low beam lights keep going out. i have changed the bulbs 4 times now with oem bulbs and also the wiring harness. at first it was the driver's side only now it's both.
Low beam on the passenger side is dim when it works and goes out often. sometimes it comes back on out of nowhere. it's been happening for the last 7 months. i've changed my bulb about 6 times in that time frame.
I buy a bulb every other week or month for my headlights on the passenger side keeps going out
I have an issue with the passenger side low beam headlight. i keeps burning out. i have replaced twice within a month period. now i have to replace the wiring harness. please recall i'm tired of taking the whole bumper off to replace a bulb.
Brake light constantly fluctuating without the brake being pressed, very dangerous for me and my child, headlights constantly going out specifically the front passenger side, almost go cause an accident and people thing i'm the one pressing the brakes, it does this when driving or when it parked, if i tap the brake it'll go off for a few second then come right back on. also car keep throwing a code saying it's running rich even tho i can locate the problem i believe it has something to do with a senseor or wiring or the fuel injector, if there are any recalls for this vehicle i would lie for them to be fix all at once because i have to use this card daily for myself and my daughter and i just want it to be safe for my child and i as well as other drivers in the road.
My 2010 chevy malibu has been having issues involving my headlights. i recently had them changed twice and now about a month and half later they are out again. every now and then i can tap on them and they will come on. i just checked this morning to see if they work and neither one of them will turn on. this issue needs to be recalled because i can't even drive at night at this point! i do not want a ticket and having my bulbs replaced every month is costly. everyone wants to charge 100+ to change the bulbs. if i knew i would be having this constent problem, i would have never bought a chevy!
I have replaced my passenger headlights several times and blub keeps blowing out. i am tired of replacing it and very costly because of the labor it takes to replace it. all of sudden my power steering went out. i was pulling out of a parking stall and lost control of the car. i was able to put it back in drive to get the car out of the way. when i turned it off and restarted the car it drove normal. this is very dangerous.
My steering is locking up and vibrating. if turning the steering and key at same time it starts back working.and my driver side headlight keeps going out. i've had the waiting harness changed and it still continue to not work.
The low beam headlights go out on this vehicle very often. i have had this car for 5 years and ive had to replace these bulbs several times. its not cheap to do this because you have to pull the bumper to reapir. when i talk to people they tell me this isnt normal.
Brake lamp recall for these models do not work. i noticed the issue recently while driving home from work at around 55 mph at night. my brake lights are on, while my foot is off of the brake pedal. when i place my foot on the brakes, the brake lights go off. this is a serious driving hazard. i've taken the car to get the recall handled, but noticed this morning, that my brake lights are still illuminating when my foot is off the brake pedal.
Headlights keep going out.
I've taken my car to get the driver side low beam light replaced 3 times in one year. come to find out the lights were not blowing out.. there is a shortage with the light plug. high beam is fine.. only the low beam keeps going out
The headlight (low beam) of my vehicle keep going out, i done changes it 3 times within a month. everyone that has the same car as me have been complaining about this as well. don't know if it's the wiring but it's becoming a big problem
The brake lights are engaged while driving the car and disengage when braking causing a serious safety hazard for not only he driver but others following behind. because the brake lights are on while driving following cars crash detection systems engage. this has been going on for quite awhile. it was "fixed" by a chevrolet dealership once already but it is back. huge concern for my 17 year old driving the car.
I've had this car almost 3 years i've bought over 20 headlight bulbs for this car now at this present time i have no headlights i just changed them about 2 months ago this is really terrible and very expensive
Headlight connection overheats making headlight go out. abs control locks brakes durring normal driving. rear brake lights engage while driving without pressing on brake.
Head light continues to burn out every two years
My right front headlight (regular low beam) keeps going out and having to be replaced. my mechanic replaced it in july of this year, and again in october, and it is out yet again, not even two months later. my mechanic can't find any reason for it. in addition, my service air-bag light is on, although it's never gone off, and the entire transmission had to be replaced at about 63,000 miles. regarding the light - so far, i've been lucky that it hasn't contributed to any kind of accident, especially since deer are very active at this time of year and are very common in our area.
Car has been having all the problems since i got it , and now just by doing research i seen that they had a lot of these cars recalled
When i first turn the car on it will flash service esc and power steering wheel also flash at that point i have no power steering, and then i will turn the car off and turn it back on and i have power steering there is no flashing of esc or power steering. the steering wheel will shake while stationary. in the last year i have replaced all four turn signals at least twice and both headlights at least twice. when i turn on the car the headlights will flash and then one will go out while the other one stays on driving down the road i don't hit any bumps or potholes or anything like that and the head light will come on, at that point it stayed on for one day and then it went back out again. my third brake light will work off and on, more off then on. my rear defrosters do not work at all and the control on the driver seat does not work either. within the last month we have replaced the battery and cables for the car and was told that that should fix all the electrical problems and it did not. i have 2 videos of what the car does but cannot upload on here.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving at an unknown speed, the rear brake lights remained illuminated. when the brake pedal was pressed, the rear brake lights would shut off and not illuminate. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (coggin chevrolet, 10880 philips hwy, jacksonville, fl) where the battery pack control module was replaced, but the failure continued. the manufacturer was also notified of the failure. the contact indicated that the vehicle was previously repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 14v252000 (exterior lighting:brake lights) in 2014 for the same failure, but the failure recurred. the failure mileage was 99,000.
The bulb on the drivers side has gone out multiple times. have had to pay $150 plus bulbs each time as you have to take the bumper off. even after replacing the bulb this time it didn't work. multiple people have reported this.
Takata recall. my passenger headlights on the low beam setting keep going out. i changed my lightbulb two months ago and it has already gone out. i saw that it went out a few weeks ago but when i was going to get someone to change it, thinking the the shop gave me a bad bulb, the headlight came back on. the same thing happened last week also the light was out and i hit a bump in the road and i heard my car click like the lights were coming on when i stopped i noticed both low beam lights were on again. currently my passenger low beam headlight is not working, all other lights are working fine
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving various speeds, the brake lights remained illuminated. when the brake pedal was depressed, the brake lights would not illuminate. in addition, the electronic stability control and traction warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 129,642.
Ever since i have purchased this vehicle i have had nothing but problems with the headlights. the passenger side would constantly go out. everytime i hit a bump or would hit it. it would come back on. recently i replaced both bulbs. the passenger side has officially died. now the driver side is acting up. i have to hit basically every morning to turn it on before i go to work. while i am driving it will go out sporadically and come back on.
The headlights keep going out. i have replaced the passenger low beam head light 3 times and it is out again. with the way the car is made and having to remove the front of the car to change the light is getting very expensive and inconveniencing.
Headlight low beams continue to go out. not burning out but going out prematurely. have to be changed at least once a month.
The stop lamps come on all by themself, if the lamps are illuminated they will turn off when the brake pedal is pressed. this also affects the traction controls and stability control, the warning light illuminates on the instrument panel. also cruise control becomes inoperative. gm has acknowledged this and has an extended warranty for this problem. however they've capped it at 150,000 miles which puts me out of warranty. when i spoke to gm they admitted this and said because i wasn't the original owner i wouldn't be notified. they don't want to help!
Passenger low beam head light goes out every 2 months. i have replaced this 3 times. replacing the headlight requires removing the front bumper and it is $120 just to remove the bumper to determine the issue. new connector and pigtails have not solved the burnout issue. upon an internet search, i found other have the same issue with passenger headlight. ihttp://www.carproblemzoo.com/chevrolet/malibu/2010/headlights-problems.php i was in motion when this was noticed as i was pulled over by the police. issue is still there when car is parked.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while the vehicle was stationary, the third brake light failed to illuminate. karl chevrolet (1101 se oralabor rd, ankeny, ia 50021, (515) 299-4300) was made aware of the failure, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with case number: 8-433-300-9105. the failure mileage was approximately 56,900.
I think the malibu has the same problem as the corvettes had the light has done went out 8 times since my husband got the car in march and he has to take the wheel off and the placsic under pinning by the wheel off and unconnect the head light and connect it again and it comes back on. and sometimes if he just smacks the light it will start working again but not always it's the low beam on the passenger side i have seen this problem with many years of the years of this model car but hears what i think the problem is like i said that the corvettes had electrical center' under the hood that may expand due to the extreme engine heat and when this electrical connection expands and contracts over and over, it is prone to breaking. when that happens, the low beam headlights will fail to function. i would imagine that the fix involves adding some sort of heat insulation to this electrical center to either protect the whole unit from the heat or to prevent the consistent expansion under high temperatures. so can y'all please look in to it for the safety of my family and we don't want no tickets and it's annoying taking it a part bc it won't work
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. while driving at an unknown speed, the passenger side headlight failed to illuminate without warning. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer and dealer were not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 150,000. the vin was not available.

The passenger side low beam light has been replaced 5 times in a matter of 2 years goes out comes back on then off for a long period of time hit a bump and it may come back on but not all the time
Passenger side head light has went out four times in the last 12-months.
