Since we bought the car on more than one ocassion the sunroof has leaked, the air bag light comes on when you move the passenger seat, and the third brake light in the window does not work.

Vehicle air bag light turns on and stays on intermediately. movement of the passenger seat either by shaking or sliding will turn on/off the air bag light. symptom reoccurs every weekly/biweekly over the past year. this appears to be a known problem by gm for the 2010 malibu and is most likely related to air bag connector under the seat.

After receiving our 2010 chevrolet malibu back from the chevrolet dealership after them having it for 3 months to correct recall 13036 the "service air bag" message comes on and off several times a week. it wasn't doing this until recall 13036 was done and the car delivered back to us. i visited my local chevrolet dealership and they stated there is no recall about this.chevrolet has stated there is no known issues with air bag or sensor problems with my model. gm has several tech bulletins out on the 'service air bag" warning issues, but no recalls. below are the tech bulletins on air bag service known problems. air bags service bulletin no.: sb-10-09-41-002c component(s): air bags nhtsa id number: 10037465 all products associated with this service bulletin chevrolet malibu 2010 summary: gm: the air bag light comes on intermittently with a couple trouble codes present. may be caused by electrical harness problems. *rm updated on 6/30/2011. air bags date reported march 01 2011 nhtsa reference #10038651 tsb reference #pb-11034 description: gm: wear could lead to corrosion in the air bag harness wiring. the service airbag light may come on. 2010 malibu, g10. *rm air bags date reported october 01 2010 nhtsa reference #10036264 tsb reference #pie-0118 description: chevrolet: engineering information-sir/airbag indicator/light on, dtc b0012 or b0013 set. engineering attempting to determine the root cause of condition. engineering has a need to gather information on vehicles prior to repair that may air bags:frontal nhtsa reference #10033528 tsb reference #pb-10085 description: chevrolet airbag readiness light/service air bag message-reroute wire harness/replace connectors. some vehicles may experience wear which could lead to corrosion air bags:side/window date reported february 01 2011 nhtsa reference #10033528 tsb reference #pb-10085

My seat belt warning pings when i am buckled up and goes off as frequently as it would if i was not buckled up. my "service air bag" light randomly pops up my car revs when im driving at the same pace on a flat road. which is scary because it speeds up too. my driving wheel sticks sometimes. i feel like its not a safe car i bought this car in feb thinking it was a good investment and i regret it 100%. *tr

Shortly after getting the recall repair for the abs lighting issue in late august the "service airbag" light came on when i hit the brakes hard. after a while it went off and stayed off until a few days later when a back seat passenger closed the rear passenger door hard. it still to this day continues to go on & off, sometimes when i hit a bump, or when i 1st start the car. i called the dealer and was told our car was not under recall for the recent airbag issue and that for them to investigate the issue would require the diagnostic machine. and.. since the warranty on the airbag was only 3yrs/36,000 miles the charge to me would be 1hrs time about $125.00. i find this completely unacceptable and will also be filing a complaint with gm. *tr

Went into shop for recall of the recall id # 103647 - electronic stability control on 2010 chevy malibu. when i got my car back from shop. i now get service air bags warning light all the time on my dash. *tr

since i purchased my car there have been different incidents that i didn't pay attention to. the traction, cruise control don't work properley, the warning light for the air bags appears and will stay on for awhile i've had problems with the lighting. as soon as i recieved the recall letter i called the dealer right away and told them about the problems, they looked it up and said i had to wait until the parts arrive. i'm very concerned about my safety i use my car for my family and will be having to make a long distance trip to pick up my daughter. what do i do in the meantime when my car is already having problems? *js

I was t-boned by another vehicle on the passenger side of my car and the airbag deployed on the passengers side door and hit my daughter in the face. the airbag had fibers and such on it that was imbedded in my daughters eye. she had to have surgery to get it out. *tr

I have several complaints about this car that i believe to be manufacturer defects. the most serious issue i found today (4/19/2014) when i smelled gas outside of my car. upon looking underneath my car i found my gas tank leaking onto my exhaust pipe. i consider this to be a recall issue because there is absolutely no damage to the undercarriage of my car. one of the other serious issues i have found with my car include a brake light issue. my car was occasionally showing a "service traction/ esc" error code, which could not be explained by any mechanic or even a chevy dealership themselves. it wasn't until a friend following me pointed out that my brake lights didn't seem to be working right, did i realize i was having an issue. the brake lights do the exact opposite of what they should, but only on the occasions said error code is showing. i looked into the issue online and found this to be a common problem. chevy has not been able to give me a solution to this problem. the third major safety issue i'd like to point out, i know from experience is not exclusive to my car. when i sit in the passenger seat of my malibu, among every malibu i have ever been, the passenger side airbag does not turn on. i am 26 and weigh 94lbs, so i don't know if my size is the reason i do not engage the airbag!? the final defect i had to deal with involved my driver side rim. i had a tiny little hair line crack on the inside of my rim, causing me to loose a lot of air in my tire. i consider this a manufacturer defect because my rim was not damaged in any other way shape or form. i had a hard time obtaining a new rim, because (according to everyone i called) the rim was in high demand. please look into these issues and consider adding them to gm's current recall list. thank you for reviewing my concerns. *tr..updated 04-23-14 *bf *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated while driving 40 mph attempting to avoid crashing into another vehicle, the brakes were engaged but failed to stop the vehicle. as a result, the contact crashed into the rear of the second vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy. the front passenger sustained a fractured knee. a police report was filed. neither the manufacturer nor the dealer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 27,000.

I was travelling south on a 4 lane road that has a turn lane in the middle. my 2 right lanes were stopped so i proceeded into the turn lane to make a left turn. just as i was about to make my left turn a car came across the stopped lanes and proceeded to pull i front of me taking off the entire front of my car. the airbags did not deploy and i hit my chest on the steering wheel causing severe pain in my chest. i am sure that my trauma would have been less severe if the airbag had deployed. *tr

Stopped behind traffic and the vehicle behind me did not. not sure how fast they were going, but fast enough to hit the rear of my car 2 times and push me into the vehicle in front of me. the problem is-- my air bags did not deploy. i am having issues with back and neck since the seat belt did not hold me in place. the drivers seat broke, but the passengers seat belt held, but no air bags. *tr

1. the service light comes on indicating service traction and/or esc. it stays on until the engine is turned off and may stay off for some miles or some days. then it comes on again while driving or standing at a red light. now it comes on every day. i took it in several times, but it never stays on, therefore the service dealer doesn't find an issue. i have paid for parts to be replaced, but it has not fixed the issue. 2. service air bag light comes on and off similar to the service traction control light. i have had the airbag fixed under recall previously and now it is happening again. when i start the engine i can hear a whistling sound as i assume the airbag disengages. *tr

The air bag service message appeared in the driver information center and the air bag service light came on. it went back off before i could get it to the dealer. nevertheless i took it in to see what the problem was. the service department suggested i keep driving it to see if the light would come on and stay on so that they could get a code to diagnose. i asked about the previous recall to see if the manufacturer is responsible for this problem. i was told i would have to pay for any diagnosis and repairs since it was out of warranty. they did not acknowledge that this has been a historical problem for this model and that there are still issues with the air bags on this model. since then the air bag service message continues to come on and then after a period of time, ranging from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours, goes back off. there was a recall on air bag connectors which we had completed on 5/25/2011. i am very uncomfortable driving the vehicle because the air bag service light comes on with no warning and i don't want to be in an accident and not have the air bags work. *tr

Inadvertent air bag deployment of driver's side impact and side curtain air bags. *tr

Service airbag indicator light on my 2010 chevy malibu keeps coming on and going out. *tr

Complained quite a few times to the dealership about the airbag light coming on and going off. first time we took it in at 35k miles they replaced the airbag harness. about 6 months pass and the airbag light comes on again, along with check engine light, traction control light, car runs ruff, so they come out with a broken fuel injection wire, a bad airbag cable connection and a bill for the repairs. now the airbag light comes on and off as you drive. its due in for the already brake switch recall so we let them know that the airbag light comes on and goes off. three hours pass and here comes the counter worker with a $1500.00 parts bill for the replacement of side airbags dash airbags and the sensors...i will never buy a new car again. rftbj./ *tr

The service airbag light keeps coming on. when i took it to the dealer they said the connector under the passenger seat was corroded. this is not covered because i have to many miles on the car. after doing some research i found this is a common problem. i don:t feel miles should count when its a safety feature. if my car was 10 or 15 yrs old i might agree but its only 3 yrs old. how does a connector corrode that fast? *tr

Takata recall-my air bag light has been on since shortly after i purchased the vehicle in aug. 2011. i am terrified if i am in an accident they won't deploy and myself or a passenger may be seriously injured. my son and i were coming back home from denver and my car started acting strange like it was going to die and it sure did while we were almost out of eisenhower tunnel on the west end, we were almost rear ended by an 18 wheeler! thank god he made it around us safely and no accident occurred. i am sure i reported this already shortly after it happened and never received a response in any shape or form. i was able to get the car started after about ten minutes and drove home without any further problems, was shaking like a leaf all the way....my son too. i have also had problems with the car shimmering when i apply the brake at 55-60 mph and it isn't just a little its sever and doesn't stop until i get back under that speed, i am afraid of loosing control. i do want to say i am very disappointed in the car, i bought it because i believed it would be a great vehicle to own and i was proud to drive it....the chevrolet emblem meant something to me. i doubt i would ever buy another one, i would be afraid to! it is so sad that the quality of products and the pride in the manufacturing of them has taken a back seat to profit.....the recalls in this country are ridiculous! can't recall specifc date as to tunnel incident, its been a few years back, the other two problems have been happening since i purchased the vehicle in 2011

Airbag not operating light, on right after warranty expired. internet seems to show this is a problem with the malibu and a possible issue. *tr

2010 chevrolet malibu. attorney representing consumers writes in regards to vehicle front passenger air bag and seat belt malfunction. *smd the consumer was rear ended, which in turn caused him to rear end the vehicle in front of him. as a result of the impact, the consumers wife sustained a very serious closed head injury when her head struck the windshield, despite the fact she was a wearing her seat belt and the vehicle was equipped with frontal air bags that did not deploy. at the time of the accident, the consumer was stopped and despite the fact, he was approximately 1/2 to one car length behind the other vehicle. the front of the consumers vehicle struck the rear of the other vehicle moving it after impact. the vehicle was declared a total loss.

Service air bag light came on . took car to dealer from which the car was purchased. dealer said that the passenger air bag connector on the wire harness had backed out. they reconnected the terminal and it repaired the problem. now 08/10/2013 service air bag light is back on. now that the car is no longer under there bumper to bumper warranty chances are that they will charge me to repair the same problem. so i researched the problem online and it seems that i am not the only one with a 2010 malibu that has this problem. to me this is a safety issue that chevy should recall but wont. its sad that the car only has 18,000 miles at this time and i have to take the car back for the same safety issue and pay to have it repaired. these air bags are installed on these vehicles for safety. you would think that any issue with safety that the dealer should be held accountable. *tr

I have a 2010 malibu and recently took it too the dealer for a service air bag light and they informed me of a electrical problem that was supposed to be corrected under a recall, however now there saying i need to replace the driver side seat air bag and the passenger seat module. these air bags are a safety issue and there are many 2010 malibu owners experiencing the same problems and the dealer wants to charge 1245.87 for repairs and cannot say why the failure happened. a vehicle of this age should not have air bag failure. there needs to be some sort of investigation on to why these air bags and seat sensors are failing for no apparent reasons beside the poor or cheap quality of the products there installing. i think that gm needs to stand behind there cars and trucks and not brush off such a huge safety risk. Purchased vehicle at 30k miles at beginning of year and within the same year towards the end of the year upon start up the vehicle begin making a loud exhaust noise (several occassions). i took the vehicle into the dealersship on two seperate occassions and they were not able to diagnose it and gave the excuse the the older the vehicle gets the more apt it is to make noises and such. i'm a very educated young lady and i knew that statement to be just as false as two left shoes on a left and right foot and thus expressed that fact to the dealership who should be educated in the car that they are selling when it comes to body parts and likely problems. needless to say, after hitting the 70k mileage mark the vehicle air bag light begin to come on and off and still does; furthermore vehicle upon start up of the engine would lag as if something was not catching and preventing the vehicle from starting up properly, thus i would have to hold the key turned longer than usual. i am not satisfied with this vehicle at all. at 70k miles this vehcile should still be running flawlessly as it is regularly maintained and tuned-up. purchasing this vehicle was an epic fail. i am shocked that certain models and years have not been permanently recalled and replaced by a vehcile of owners choice from chevrolet (needless to say i probably would not purchase another chevy car) for the headeache we have had to endure. i have an infant and a toddler and the uncertainty of vehicle operation on any given day at any given time on a practically new vehcile needs to be the least of my concerns! *tr

Purchased car on june 28, 2012 and a week later the service air bag message started showing. took the car to the chevy dealership and was told that other models have this issue. they are charging $500 to replace the wire harness on a two year old car. since this error can cause the bag to accidentally inflate, this is a huge safety issue. *tr

Air bag light goes off and on. this has been going on for several months. it should be covered under warranty. this is a known problem for this vehicle. *tr

Service air bag light came on. apparently not covered under my extended warranty. was in an accident in april that afflicted the driver side but the air bag sensor under the passenger seat was the one throwing the code. i've had them both replaced. i was told by the dealership that were recalls on this part in other cars. *tr

The air bag light comes on daily since then and the dealer told my wife that the air bag light was nothing than the air bags not working not to worry about it,but the air bag light stays on all the time now. *tr

Driver side door could not be opened with manually from inside, or with the key or auto opener. driver had to exit over the counsel and out the passenger side. when i turned it into the dealership, i was told it was the actuator malfunction and that they would replace it. they didn't seem too concerned that this was a new issue and what i believe a serious safety issue, in addition i have had to take this vehicle six times to the dealership because of the "service air bag" indicator light keeps coming on. another safety issue that had a recall but was not fixed yet.

Service airbag indicator light on my 2010 chevy malibu keeps coming on and going out. *tr

Air bag warning light illuminates when pressing hard on brake pad and when making turns. warning light in dash stays on the warning light may go off briefly when driving and it is required to brake hard, but illuminates again when brake is pressed. sometimes, it comes on during normal driving without braking. sometimes it comes on when the car is driven over a bump in the road. this malfunction makes it impossible to determine if air bags are actually engaged and will operate during a crash. the problem only increased after body control module (bcm) recall was fixed on the vehicle. it occurs every 1-2 days since the bcm was repaired. local chevrolet dealer has not been able to identify a problem and has not been willing to contact gm for information. extremely concerned for passenger safety.
