We have classified the 80 complaints from 2007 Chevrolet Equinox about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
I don't know if it's a takata inflator, but there was a recall for the 2007 chevy equinox, but, for some reason the recall did not have my wife's car's vin # regarding this recall. so, her car did not receive a recall notice! what i'm upset about is, that she has low mileage on her car, and had the same problem, just recently, and it's the same model and year, regarding the recall, that did not involve her car! i was told by gm, that because her vin # was not "in" the recall, that there was nothing that they could do, but if i wanted to, because it's a safety problem, that i could contact you! and "then" if you told them that it was a safety problem, which it is, that you could then, get in touch with gm, and they would take care of it! so, what can be done, this shouldn't be like this!!! please help us take care of this safety problem on my wife's 2007 chevy equinox if you would please! regarding the note below, my wife was simply driving, and the air bag light came on, and that was it. when i got in touch with gm, they did tell me that there "was" a recall on this, but because my wife's equinox did not fall into their recall vin #, that there was nothing that they could do! if it was a different model, year, etc. then i could understand of course, but not when it's the same car, and model, that they recalled!!! thank you for your assistance, in any way! *tr

When i have a passenger in the seat the airbag never comes on and the airbag light stays on and tells me it needs service. also all my gauges are all out of wack not sure if it is a recall or not once i hit 100,000 miles all these things came about. also there was a recall on the fuel system and at the time i did not have a problem as of yet, on 9/29/15 i then smelled the gas and called mk smith chevrolet to see if there were any recalls on this and they told me no, so i did take it somewhere else to be fixed due to it being cheaper for me and got it fixed and paid $633.60. i have document for that. now my key in the ignition does not come out and i hear a clicking noise by the ignition i'm not sure if that as well is a recall on the equinox 2007. please let me know if any of these problems are recalls on my vehicle. i just have read all these other complaints on the same issues on the equinox 2007.

The speedometer on my 2007 chevy equinox started going crazy. i'm driving down the road at 30 mph but the speedometer says i'm doing 60 mph. when i'm on the highway doing 55 mph, it bounces between 90 to 120 mph. i've even been parked in the driveway doing 120 mph. something is seriously wrong. i've found out about numerous other complaints with other chevy's doing the same thing but chevy doesn't want to include the equinox. i want to know what my next step is going to be.

I notice while my wife was driving no side breaklights but center light came on. i have changed the bulbs and checked fuses and still no brake lights. *tr
Approaching driveway and suddenly the speedometer showed i was doing 90 mph and i knew this was incorrect as i was slowing down to make a turn off of a highway. now the speedometer may work correctly for a few miles and then it shows that i am driving a speed above what is allowed or what i know is untrue. took to a mechanic and he says the speedometer motor needs to be replaced. for past 3 years the check tire sensor monitor comes on when making a long distance trip. for past 2 years the passenger airbag light comes on whenever anyone sits on passenger side. mechanic says cluster panel needs to be replaced. this vehicle will be traded for something else as i feel unsafe in it now. *tr
Less than 4,000 miles driven after i purchased this vehicle the transmission needed to be replaced as it would not shift out of 2nd gear. the heater core also exploded on the way to the dealership to assess the transmission issues. around 20-25,000 miles after purchase the engine coolant temp gauge stopped reporting temperatures correctly and would redline even if the car was off for over 2 days it would start up way above the normal operating temperature. the fuel guage no longer correctly indicates how much gas is left in the tank and will not move off of empty even after pumping 13 gallons into the tank. vehicle was stationary at a red light when heater core blew out. vehicle was being driven during transmission, temperature, and gas gauge failures.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. after turning the vehicle off, the ignition key remained stuck in the ignition switch. in addition, the hazard lights failed to operate. the bulbs for the hazard lights were replaced, but the failure recurred one week later. while operating the vehicle, the engine overheated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure was unable to be diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 60,000.
My key keeps getting stuck in the ignition. i literally have to turn my car on and off, move the shifter in and out of park, shake the shifter, take my foot off of the brakes, at least 10-15 times before the ignition will release the key. i tried to make an appt with a chevy dealership when this problem went public and they cancelled me because my vehicle was not part of the recall. i talked to a representative shakevia with chevrolet chat and she said that i would have to be responsible for all of the diagnosis and repair fees since my vehicle is not included with the recall. i looked at the recall list and all the vehicles that are on there, the year of my vehicle fits in every single column. *tr
The ignition switch key is very difficult to remove and sometimes it takes up to 10 min. to remove the key after turning the ignition switch assembly back and forth. a death or serious injury could occur due to the extreme difficulty in removing the key from the ignition switch. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while parked, the ignition switch failed and an unknown warning light illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who stated that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified about the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 75,789. updated 10/30/14*cn updated 7/9/2015 *js
On two occasions the power steering has gone out while i started my car. each time this occurred i was unable to steer the vehicle. it was very dangerous to drive as it was very difficult to make right and left hand turns.
The ignition key would get stuck in the ignition. the only way i could get it out would be to repeatadly shift from park to drive or reverse until the key was released. *js
When i put my vehicle in park and try to turn off my car, the key gets stuck in the ignition more often than not. i then have to turn it on, back up, pull forward, and turn it off again to see if it will let me take the key out. sometimes i have to do this 5-6 times! *tr
When turning off the vehicle the key will not release from the ignition and can not be removed. after about 30 seconds you can hear a click and then the key will release and can be removed, but until you hear the click it can not be removed from the ignition. *tr
The vehicle has stable track link error and will not go away! parts have been replaced, both aftermarket and swapped for genuine gm and still the service engine soon light is on. the fuel gauge doesn't work properly and will just at random show over the full mark or under the empty mark when i have purchased fuel on the same day. the throttle body had to be replaced at 45,000 miles when the vehicle suddenly lost power and just sat on a busy road.
I purchased a 2007 chevy equinox at a chevy dealership in 2014. a couple of weeks after purchase i started having trouble with the key in the ignition. it would sometimes get so i could not pull it out of the ignition after putting the vehicle in park. i have waited for a year, because i believed the problem would get better. the problem has continued, and is slowly getting worse. i have even tried different sets of keys to see if that made a difference, it has not. it does not matter if the vehicle is parked on a flat service or on an incline, the key keeps getting stuck in the ignition. i have even taken all other keys off the key ring thinking that would make a difference, it did not. the only way that i can get the key out is by shaking the shifter on the floor and wobble the steering wheel back and forth. that does not always work, so sometimes i have to turn the vehicle back on and off again to get it to come out. i am afraid that one of these times i am not going to be able to get the key out of the ignition which will make it easier for someone to break into it and steal it from me. i have gone back to the dealership that i purchased the vehicle and told me that i would have to replace the ignition cylinder at my own expense since there is no official recall on the part. *tr
I have been having problems off and on with the ignition, the key gets stuck in the ignition and i have to usually wait a few minutes and move the gears while in park to get the ignition to let go of the key. my worry is the fact that gm has recalls currently on ignition problems which have caused the vehicles to stop while driving. my vehicle although gm; is not currently on the recall list but it seems that this problem i am having can be in relation to this sort of thing. *tr
Ignition lock up, could not turn off ignition. motor still running, had to turn wheel back and forth to find a spot to turn off ignition continuing problem. we have already brought to dealer ship to have problem corrected. they were not able to find problem. *tr
I have a different type of ignition switch problem. i can't remove the key when the car is in park. this started maybe 1 year ago. i switched out keys (using my second key) and it worked fine until the last 2 months when the problem started again. it doesn't happen all the time. when it does, i have to turn on the ignition, put it in gear and drive forward a few feet and then put it in reverse and go back to where i need to park and turn off the key. maybe it will work, but there have been times when i've had to do this exercise 10 times before i can remove the key. just this morning, i had to do it 5 times at a gas station and the people next to me probably thought i was crazy!!! *js
The driver side window stopped working along with the driver side door lock switch. they both stopped working at the same time. *tr

i own a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the i could not get the key out of the ignition and the failure continued at random on multiple occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the ignition key assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired and the failure still recurred. the vehicle was taken back to an authorized dealer who diagnosed that the shift cable needed to be replaced. 600.00 dollars for both repairs. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that when turning the vehicle off, the key failed to release from the ignition. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 105,000.
The ignition locked up. it continues to jam up sometimes at unpredictable times. on this morning the signal for service air bag lit up. i continued driving and after a few minutes it turned off. i took the vehicle into my local dealer ([xxx]) on march 11, 2014, where i was informed the air bag may not function if i am in an accident. the service air bag light has continued to light up more frequently. presently it turns on almost every day or every 2 days. concerned the air bag will not work when it is needed. i realize that as the owner of the vehicle i am responsible for the maintenance of the car on parts that are used and worn, but in this case, the malfunction of an integral part of the vehicle associated to the safety and performance of the vehicle should be a standard functioning part that should work throughout the life of the vehicle. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
The key started getting stuck in the ignition about 8 months ago or so. i can not remove the key on most days. i have to turn the ignition on and off and shift in out of gear to release the key. *tr
The ignition key would get stuck in the ignition. the only way i could get it out would be to repeatadly shift from park to drive or reverse until the key was released. i took it to my local chevy dealer for repair. it cost $544 to get it fixed. i have heard of others having the same issue. *tr
The ignition will not release the key. i have tried the shifter, sit and wait in my car to see if it will release with time, step on the brake for a long time then try to take the key off and hope it will release the key. *tr i can't keep sitting in my car waiting for a miracle to happen when i need to log in to work and am stuck in the car because the key won't come out of the ignition. this should be recalled. with az weather being so hot sitting in the car waiting for the release of the key is making it hot to breathe. don't want to roll down the windows because i need the key in to get the windows back up. something needs to be done about this problem. this has gone on for several months i need something done about this. this is dangerous. *tr
I have multiple issues currently and they all seem to be listed on other complaints. 1. the driver side window has completely stopped working. it seems to have become disconnected to the motor as i can hear the motor going up and down within the door. 2. stabilitrak warning and engine light are constantly turning on and off. this has happened on and off over the past year or so but the dealership could not get a reading from the computer. now it has been on for the past 2 weeks constantly 3. the temperature gauge in the instrument panel does not work. took it into the dealer and they replaced the thermostat a few days later the gauge went haywire again. it gets worse when i fill up with gas and tends to mirror the gas gauge reading most of the time. 4. the key will not come out of the ignition when turning off the car. this is extremely frustrating. i put the car in park, turn the key off, the engine turns off but the key will not come out of the ignition. have to turn car back on, put it in and out of park, turn the wheel, back up, drive forward or just sit and wait a few minutes and it comes out. 5. occasionally the electronics go crazy - the turn signals won't work and the radio shuts down. it makes a sound when it does this as well, like a clicking noise but it only lasts for a few seconds and i can't figure out what causes it. *tr
The driver side front window stopped working then months later the switch that tells the bcm the door is open or closed failed and the radio doesn't. shut off and the dome lights don't come on when exiting the vehicle. *tr
Took my 2007 equinox to dealership where i but it in may of 2007 to tell them about passenger side airbag not working correctly when certain individuals luke myself were sitting in passenger seat and i was told nothing they could do that i just needed to carry a gallon of water on my lap because i was to small. fyi i weigh 120. also the key keeps getting stuck in the ignition i think this is very unsafe along with the airbag. would like a response asap my equinox only has 42000 miles .
On saturday may 25, 2013 my 2007 chevrolet equinox would not start. the key had gotten stuck in the ignition and i did not remove it and i think that killed the battery. i tried to jump start the car with no success. finally on sunday may 26,2013 i had a professional come jump start it. after it started the power steering went out and the stabilitrak warning light came on. this has never happened before and i don't know what's causing it. i read in the forum that there were several other equinox's with the same problem. i think it should be a recall. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact could not get the key out of the ignition and the failure continued to occur intermittently on multiple occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the ignition key assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired and the failure continued to occur. the vehicle was taken back to an authorized dealer who diagnosed that the gear shift needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired again. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 62000.
After parking car and turning key to turn off engine i can't get the key out the car. issue happens a few times a week and sometimes happens all day. sometimes you have to sit and wait or restart car and drive around and then park to get key out. i have seen the issue reported on multiple sites and forums yet gm still hasn't issued a recall. *tr
There is a harsh smell of fuel coming from somewhere in the fuel tank area. there is no fuel leaks to be found. when starting the vehicle, the starter seems to stay engaged for a few seconds. *tr
Sometimes the ignition freezes up and does not allow you to remove the key. although this doesn't happen every time it happens enough to be a concern. if in a mall parking lot it could render one in a dangerous position of not being able to take the key out of the ignition. i usually have to wait several minutes, up to 20, before the ignition will release the key. *tr
Ignition key will not come out once the car is turned off and put into park. i have read numerous complaints concerning this problem and no-one can tell if this happens because of the key cylinder or because of gear shift not properly going into park. *tr
Speedometer went from 40 to 120 miles an hour. and tack was stuck at 1 1/2 mark. could not tell what speed i was actually going. on a 2007 equinox ls. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while stopped the battery light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was found that the tcm fuse failed. the vehicle was repaired. the failure recurred several times after the repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. the failure and current mileage was 76,176.
