We have classified the 80 complaints from 2007 Chevrolet Equinox about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Key sticks in ignition when entered into park, and will not come out most of the time. the only way to release the key is to stick finger into a hole in the steering column and slide the manual release switch within the steering wheel column. there are no obstructions which prevent the gear shift lever from entering the full park position. *tr
Detected smell of gasoline while parked among many other cars. did not think much of it until at home detected smell of gasoline inside and out of the vehicle. look around and saw gas dripping from the rear passenger side of car. check under the car and it seemed like gas leaking from the top of the gas tank. took vehicle to dealer and agreed on repair. dealer had previously said cost would be approximately 500 dollars. when vehicle was at the garage i was told over 900 dollars to repair. i agreed, hoping there would eventually be a recall, since i had read of many complains on line. i was able to get the labor charged refunded to me. a few months later i received a safety recall notice. the letter specifically says "your 2007 model year chevrolet equinox, vin xxxxxxxxxxxxx is involved in safety recall 12190. etc. when to dealer, and the service guy say "your vehicle does not show any open recalls and that only certain one have that fuel pump module recall. i told him "look at the letter" but i got nowhere. true i had the vehicle repaired, but the letter mentions a refund. plus, did i get the right replacement part or some other generic part? so why does my letter say your....is involved in safety recall..yet the dealer's system says "no" to this recall. by the way i did buy it in california and it's register also at california. *tr
when i turn the vehicle off, the ignition key stays stuck. even if i turn it back and forth it does not come out, i have to wait about two minutes before i can take it out. sometimes, if i move the key extremely fast, i am able to take it out on the first try. i have seen this complaint on this vehicle before but there is still no recall. *tr
When i park my car i cannot get the key out of the ignition. i have to push the brake all the way to the floor and move the gear shift several times back and fourth before i can get the key out. it happens almost every day, every time i park the car. it is getting worse day by day and i am afraid that one day i will not be able to get the key out at all. i am unemployed at the present and cannot afford to have anyone look at it. i feel that it is a defect from the factory, because there have been so many reports for the same thing. i think something should be done concerning this problem as soon as possible. *js
The car will not start, the battery was tested to be good. the fan will run after the vehicle is turned off. which in turn drains the battery. would have to jump start the car. this would work for a few days and have to jump start it again. the mechanic do not understand and will have to see it happen again to understand the problem. all systems show no error messages. this has to an electrical problem with the fan and battery. *tr

Right front door wiring harness in hinge area (flex point). wires broken causing door locks, power windows and power mirrors to be inoperable. *tr

The key will not release from the ignition when the car is in park and turned off. this happens about one out of every five times the car parks. i normally have to wait about 1 minute for the key to release. sometimes, it will still not release and i have to turn the car back on, put it in reverse and go a couple feet, then drive forward a couple feet, put it in park for the key to release. i may have to do this 3-4 times before, the key will finally release. *tr
Key will not come out of ignition when car is placed in park. the key is stuck in accessory position. car needs to be turned back on and gear selector moved (as well as vehicle, steering etc.) many times before key will disengage from steering column. *tr
When you turn off car and go to remove the keys they are stuck in the ignition. you have to start the car again and usually move it before you can remove the keys and even then it usually takes several attempts. this happens about one out of every four times i drive the car. *tr
I purchase the 2007 equinox used from day one i have had problems the first one was the car would slow down on its on and when i speeded up it would slow down then it wouldn't start i replaced the battery and now the same thing it will not start, there is a noise that i hear when i drive like something is lose, the back windshield wiper works and not works the passenger seat beat light keeps coming on i will never buy another chevrolet product. *tr
After vehicle is turned off. the key cannot be removed out of the ignition. i have been dealing with this issue for years! in order to pull the key out. you must either turn the vehicle on then turn it back off several times before finally the ignition allows you to remove the key. the other way it allows you to pull out the key is by turning the key without turning the vehicle on then moving the gears from park to reverse then back to park. it just continues to get worse and worse. it is a huge concern to me because i am afraid that i would be unable to pull out the key out of the ignition. i took it to the dealer and they said it seems to be a common issue. *tr
Strong smell of gas and is leaking. electrical lights are coming on dash board traction control, abs and engine lights... *tr
Getting back onto the interstate the door locks started clicking and the speedometer hand starts going haywire. in the weeks and months to come now the awd, traction control, service engine soon lights come on. the steering wheel jerks, weird noise goes through the speakers and all gauges and door locks go haywire. has been put on a machine but no codes come up for the mechanic. *tr
The heater blower stopped working. after investigating problem it appears to be a manufacturers defect with the plastic transfer door. blows cold air all the time. winter is approaching and this is a huge safety issue. *tr
Sometimes when you park the keys will not come out of the ignition. you have to keep starting the vehicle, turning the steering wheel back and forth, or slamming the shifter into park it happens about 12 times per week! also the trac control light will pop on and then heal on its own, stay off as long as a 16 months then go back on for a week or two then back off! weird. *tr
I was driving the truck and it just shut down on me. since then i have gotten a new alternator, starter, batter, battery cables, fuses, egr valve, and power relay switch. the car is still not holding a charge. *tr
Cannot remove key from ignition. keys (both keys that were issued with the car) will go into the ignition without a problem, but when trying to remove the keys, they will not come out. you have to turn the car back on, wiggle the steering wheel and take the car out of gear and put back in park, some times several times. you will finally hear a click, like unlocking of the doors and the keys will come out of the ignition. took to a dealer and they said there was a recall, they worked on the car but it still does the same thing. this has been going on for over 3 years. some times the problem goes away for weeks at a time and then returns. *tr
Ignition key will not come out, without several try's . ongoing thru 7/3/2012. *js
The speedometer go's from 0 to 120 at anytime. even when stopped. *js
2007 equinox chevrolet - the ignition has been locking up and key could not be removed. dealership has replaced ignition three times and it still locked up. today the wheel is locked, the gear shift is locked up and nothing will move. they are sending a tow truck to haul it into the shop again. my complaint is not the dealership it is chevrolet. the internet lists thousands of equinox's with the same issue and a recall should have been done to pull these in and fix the issue once and for all at no cost to the consumer. i think it is time for a class action suit against chevrolet. my issue has been ongoing for since this past winter. *tr
Vehicle has temporary loss of power for things like dash board lights, radio, power locks and additionally i hear popping noises from front end of car and to add to this frustration on sunday the power steering completely failed with no previous warning indicators. fortunately, i was in a parking space and simply could not steer my car to exit. i have had it repaired at the cost of over $700.00. *tr
I have had continuous problems with brake lights and turn signal lights going out.. over the last couple of weeks my headlights have been getting stuck in the bright position, now yesterday on my drive home smoke started coming from between my steering wheel and the dash; during this the blue bright light indicator was flashing. i pulled over and exited the car. the smoke dissipated very quickly and continued the short distance home with no more problems... i called the dealership who said it sounded like i had wires "touching" they want me to bring it in however my warranty is up, and i am on a limited income. this is very frustrating considering it sounds like a manufacture problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that while driving, the vehicle emitted a strong fuel odor. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the fuel failure. the dealer inspected the vehicle but was unable to locate the fuel failure. in addition, the sun-roof seal was defective and causing water to penetrate the interior of the vehicle. as a result, the interior light would not provide proper illumination. the dealer advised that the sun-roof could not be repaired and the interior lighting failure could have been caused by a faulty alternator. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 69,000 and current mileage was 78,000.
At least 10 times over the course of the past year , the key would not turn the ignition and sometimes the key gets stuck. after numerous attempts of jiggling the key and trying to move the steering wheel (which seems to be locked when this happens) i get the key to turn. i just took it to the dealer two months ago and they said everything was working as normal. if this is normal, what is abnormal? this happened to my sister's aveo and they replaced her ignition, but her key still gets stuck sometimes. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the srs warning lamp was illuminated. in addition, the vehicle would sporadically fail to start. the contact also added that when driving in inclement weather, the spare tire well would fill with water. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for repairs or diagnosis. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 32,000 and the current mileage was 36,000.
The awd on my 2007 equinox has been exceptionally loud ever since i bought the car. i just figured it was supposed to be like that and didn't worry about it since it came on whenever we had a heavy rain. this past winter, i go stuck in a snowstorm and my awd never came on, which led to me losing control of my vehicle. luckily, i didn't crash but hated the entire experience since i had my two small children with me. anyway, over the weekend (9/10/2010), my stabilitrak service light came on. since i was also having problems getting the key out of the ignition, i took it to a dealership who told me the main computer (bcm) needs to be replaced. this computer is the reason why my awd doesn't operate properly and the reason why my key cannot be pulled out of the ignition. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the stability track lights illuminated without reason. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised there was an electrical failure with the electronic assembly and caused the stability sensor light to illuminate. the sensor was reset at the owners expense yet, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure and current mileages were 72,221.
I have owned this vehicle since 2009 and have had multiple issues, recurring frequently. the 2 main concerns are stuck key in ignition and stabilitrack and electrical malfunctions. there is a definite issue with the ignition in these vehicles, not only does my key get stuck, it has also been knocked out when hitting a bump. i own a cobalt too that has been recalled and my equinox has the same issues with ignition this is dangerous and frustrating!! in addition, my stabilitrack has been serviced twice since i have owned. the electrical system goes crazy and lights up with airbag service, stabilitrack service and abs brake warnings. i just spent 600 on brakes and rotors and it still lights up. the car has been checked and none of these warnings are accurate. these lights come on and off randomly and have for years. the fuel gauge will rotate backwards. the oil indicator that tracks oil life resets itself at random. i am angry! these issues need addressed. are we not taken seriously because no one died? there are multiple complaints of the same nature as mine and yet no recall? sad that action is taken only after someone is killed! gm needs to do right by people who spend their hard earned money to purchase these vehicles. i have always been pro chevy but not anymore. their customer service and quality sucks. *js
Currently my vehicle will not start. it seems that the battery is fine as all of the electronics in the vehicle are working, including radio/door locks. when the key is turned all of the electronics just "click" and the motor does nothing. this happened just after christmas this past year as well. luckily at that time i was at my parents house and though jump starting it would not work, we were able to charge the battery for about 6 hours and then it started. i have also had numerous problems with my radio (actually all sound in the car - including turn signals) that randomly just dont work or that when the car is started blast sound for about 30 seconds before the radio returns to normal - but the signals still produce a wierd, somewhat echoing sound when they do click. i have taken it to the dealer but they are unable to recreate the problem and send me on my way.
On october 19, 2009, i purchased a chevrolet equinox 2007. at the time of purchase i noticed condensation in the passenger side front headlight lens and i was told by the salesman at the time that it would "burn off" if i kept the lights on. since that time both driver and passenger headlights have developed the condensation issue. the condensation does not burn off just keeps accumulating to the point where the headlight bulb would just burn out. in the past six years i have replaced the various bulbs in the headlight assembly nine times and the bulb socket assemblies have been corroded as a result of the constant presence of moisture. often times i would be driving at night when the bulbs would go out making this a severe safety issue. *tr
Put the key in ignition and key wont turn. like the ignition is stuck. got to fiddle with ignition for @ 15 minutes and finally its "pops loose" and lets me start it. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that when a passenger is seated in the front passenger seat, the air bag indicator illuminates repeatedly. she stated that there has to be a weight limit in order for the indicator to dim. the dealer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 07v344000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module). the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 22,039 and current mileage was 22,070. updated 3/12/09 *cn the traction control activated on dry pavement. it made steering the vehicle next to impossible. the headlights had to be replaced. the all wheel light illuminated. updated 03/16/09. *jb
First problem happened recall on spark plug boot 1 cylinder wasn't firing, was fixed under warranty as was the gasket for the hatchback was bad. that lead to a gallon or so of water into my spare tire compartment. this has since happened again and i need another gasket. the driver side window stopped working, being a electrician i found to broken wires inside rubber boot on door hinge side. abs light constantly comes on/off computer says abs needs service ( sensor problem). gas gauge is reading incorrectly, i have to use the range setting on the computer. speedometer readings incorrect sits at 60mph when the car is off. i bought this vehicle brand new and have nothing but problems, most of any vehicle i've owned. current mileage 63,000 miles. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact started the ignition and the front passenger side air bag warning indicator began to illuminate continuously. the passenger seat was occupied at the time of the failure. the warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. the failure recurred when the vehicle was in operation. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer seven times for the failure. the technician was unable to duplicate the problem.the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number 07v344000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module) but was advised that the vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 24,283. updated 12/21/12*lj updated 1/9/2013*js
I've had just exact same problem as the following other complaint explains... i bought a 2007 chevy equinox new. a couple of days after taking it home a strange problem started occurring, an electrical problem between the left speakers and the directionals. a loud rapid noise would suddenly come through the left speakers as i was driving and would continue until i used the turn signal (either direction). the dealership has never been able to locate the problem and i have the same problem still. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 65 mph, the service track system and engine power reduce light illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact stated the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. the contact pulled over to the side of the road and the vehicle stalled. once the engine was shut off and restarted, the vehicle was able to be driven. the failure occurred three times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians were unable to diagnose or duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was contacted and a case was filed. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 13,000.
I had 2 chevy equinox 2007 model, loaded. first vehicle repurchased due to multiple episodes of stabilitrak failure, turn signals quit working, radio problems, passenger system airbag not working, and finally failure of main airbag system. given exact twin of first car, as thought that car was just a lemon. 2nd equinox had 2 episodes of stabilitrak failure, and a new steering column placed, and then had total system failure of the steering, brakes, gas, stabilitrak, and airbag system while driving the vehicle. i had absolutely no control over any of these systems! you could turn my steering wheel 360 degrees, and the wheels never moved, the brakes didn't work, the gas didn't work, and all alarms were going off that the systems, including the airbags were not working. luckily, no one was injured as i had just begun making a turn into roadway and all vehicles coming at me both ways were able to swerve, and the car was going slow enough and over a slight incline that it rolled to a stop just before hitting a steel light post. this car was also repurchased. something is very wrong in the engineering of this vehicle and i am concerned for all the other people owning/driving this vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the vehicle had a major fuel leak. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 12v459000 (fuel system, gasoline). also, the contact mentioned that the instrument panel failed intermittently on numerous occasions and multiple warning lights illuminated. the contact was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 09v489000 (visibility). in addition, the contact stated that the air bag warning lamp was illuminate for an extended period of time and it was not confirmed by the local dealer if the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign id numbers: 07v520000 (air bags) and 07v344000 (air bags). the vehicle was to be further inspected in order to be diagnosed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 1,500. updated 08/28/14*lj updated 09/4/2014 *js the consumer stated the vehicle was repeatedly taken to the dealer, due to loss of power. the vehicle would not accelerate, the engine began jerking and the engine light constantly stayed on. the transmission was slipping, also. updated 10/15/14. *jb
I bought a 2007 chevy equinox new. a couple of days after taking it home a strange problem started occurring, an electrical problem between the left speakers and the directionals. a loud rapid noise would suddenly come through the left speakers as i was driving and would continue until i used the turn signal (either direction). i had the vehicle back to the dealer numerous times. first i was told there was an intermittent short in the radio, but the radio replacement did not fix the problem. then the left tweeter speaker was changed, the radio recalibrated (three times), the radio software updated, and finally the body control module changed. none of these things fixed the problem. the gm engineer looked at it twice and still couldn't solve the problem. i was told no other gm product in the entire country had the same problem as my vehicle. when i went to the general manager of the dealership and told him of the problem and that the vehicle was a lemon, he contacted the gm district rep, who refused to replace the vehicle. i was forced to take gm to arbitration, and now i am getting my money back plus my filing fee. the problem is a safety issue and significantly impairs the value of the vehicle. i am turning the equinox in next week, taking my money and buying a honda cr-v. i would not advise anyone to buy an equinox after my experience, and especially gm's attitude. in fact, i will never buy another gm product. if you have had your equinox to the dealer at least 4 times for the same problem and are still getting the run around and no resolution, first write to the chevy customer assistance center for help in repairing the vehicle. you will need to do this in order to request a replacement vehicle or a repurchase. second, don't let gm keep stringing you along. file for arbitration under your state's lemon law program. it'll come to that anyway. please, read the reviews and the auto blogs about this vehicle on line. even the newest models rate poorly. *tr
The passenger air bag only comes on now & then. my vehicle has been to the garage numerous times. i've explained what happens. also have issue with wipes work, then not, blinkers work then not, blinkers double click. radio gets real loud sometimes, beeps when door open real loud. have replaced 3 batteries & two starters. but everytime in garage, hear "nothing wrong". i don't feel safe driving my car. i'm afraid if i get in accident my air bag wont work. all this started six months after bought car. *tr
My trip odometer keeps resetting on its own, when your going down the road. also my car sounds like it is taking off when started the first time during the day. i was told it will warm up and go away. but it sounds like the exhaust is falling off or something. i think there is a problem with the computer since it has been. and the passenger seat air bag does not always come on. reset several times, but keeps doing the same thing with the trip odometer. *tr
The speedometer stopped working ,the passenger air bags on and off light was going on then off now not working at all the power searing went out and then back working after the dealer tried to charge my wife 800 plus for parts not needed all this has been going on sense she first bout it off the dealer lot but they refused to resolve the electrical problems they replaced the speed odometer and even noted it in there paper work that there was body electrical ` problems with this equinox and yet still refuse to ether fix it or replace the car with a equal value all these problems was going on before the warranty ever ran out and we have now been fighting with the dealers and gm over this now for over 7 years it even had the key switch that wont work some times and sometimes it will lock up and cut off when going down the road its done this twice now in the past year i don't feel like i nor my wife [xxx] should pay to fix problems on this car due to the fact that it has all been happening since we bout the car new with less than a 100 miles on this car the dealers keep saying they cant make any codes come up but yet when we go in to them we show them what's going on with it scene it was new im sick of them lieing to us and not fixing there problems they know that are wrong with this truck if they new it had electrical problems with the truck when they did the work on the truck when it was new why didn't they fix it instead of lieing and covering up it and lieing to my wife iv had to take off from my work now for a week fighting these people and im sick of it and still have to pay more money out off my pocket over all this isn't far when we have the paper work from them stating it has electrical problems from day one. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. ever since the vehicle was purchased, the contact heard a ticking sound in the engine compartment. he stated that the vehicle had poor fuel mileage. the contact also had to jump from the vehicle because the serpentine belt caught a wire that was not in a wiring harness as it should have been. the contact also experienced stabilatrac failure on two separate occasions, which caused the power steering to fail. he has been injured twice because the rear hatch door struts failed and struck him in the head. the tires that came on the vehicle were severely worn and the turn signals would not shut off. the two front doors and the rear hatch door cracks and makes squeaking noises. some repairs have been made; however, the rear hatch needs to be repaired along with the ticking sound in the engine. the failure mileage was 170 and current mileage was 26,000.
