We have classified the 75 complaints from 2007 Chevrolet Equinox about STEERING into the following categories.
I had my rear brakes replaced and then a week later the service stabilitrak light came on. i took it back to the dealership i got my brakes replaced at and the light went off and they didn't find anything wrong. the light went off and on intermittently for weeks and then finally turned off. next i started having problems getting the key out of the ignition after turning the car off. i would have to turn the car back on, put my foot on the brake, and turn it off again to get the key out sometimes several times in a row. now i drove my car and parked and everything was fine and then i turned it on a few hours later and the power steering failed. i took it to the dealership and they say the power steering control module is bad and needs to be replaced. my issues are the exact same as many other drivers have noted and my car is not part of a recall, but the power steering suddenly failing with no warning light months after the dealership said it was fine and replaced brakes seems odd. there is obviously a defect to the power steering in the equinox that's leading to erratic warning lights, key removal difficulties, and power steering suddenly going out. chevy needs to do something!

The cat was paked in the driveway i remote started it and when i finally got to my vehicle to leave the steering wheel was hard to maneuver. now i recently purchased this vehicle a month ago from a dealership and was given the responsibility to pay for this but to no avail i complained because i am a new owner and that should not be a repair i'm responsible for. but that didn't stop them for making me pay a deductible as if it was normal wear and tear. this didn't sit right on my heart so i figured to do some internet seeking and found there is a recall for this power steering module i'm sure the dealership knew this before selling it to me. very displeased!

Over the past few days, my stabilitrak light has come on and off while driving or just sitting in the car. pulling into my driveway today i noticed that the light came back on for the stabilitrak. i proceeded to drive and then suddenly it became increasing hard to maneuver my steering wheel almost to the point where it felt as if it had locked up on me. i was able to drive the car back home but as i was driving i notice my air bag light came on and will not go off at all. after making it back to into my driveway i cut off the ignition waited a few minutes and turned the car back on to see if this would help either of the problems but to no avail. i have now taken the car to my local chevrolet dealer and they have informed me that they have sen this issue with a number of equinox and it is indeed an issue my stabilitrak.
I'm having issues with steering my wheel. it is hard to turn.

17 yr old daughter driving home from school and power steering failed. dealer diagnosed problem as a failed power steering module. cost to replace $730.00. seems that with all the complaints and similar recalls on other gm vehicles, gm should issue a recall as this is obviously a known defect and has the potential to result in serious or fatal injury. *tr

The electronic power steering went out briefly. i managed to get to the side of the road and shut the care off and restarted it and then it seemed to work just fine. it has happened a couple of other times but i was lucky enough to be in a parking lot. i have never seen any recalls on this but i have noticed alot of complaints. *tr

2007 chevrolet equinox power steering control module failure. service stabilitrak light and message appeared, power steering was working when i parked the car. a few hours later, i cranked the car and the power steering was completely non-functional. extremely hard to turn wheel, could cause crash when vehicle cannot turn correctly. took to dealership, technician stated the power steering control module (computer) was bad and needed to be replaced. *tr
I gave someone a boost and my power steering went out right after they boosted their car. *tr
My key keeps getting stuck in the ignition. i literally have to turn my car on and off, move the shifter in and out of park, shake the shifter, take my foot off of the brakes, at least 10-15 times before the ignition will release the key. i tried to make an appt with a chevy dealership when this problem went public and they cancelled me because my vehicle was not part of the recall. i talked to a representative shakevia with chevrolet chat and she said that i would have to be responsible for all of the diagnosis and repair fees since my vehicle is not included with the recall. i looked at the recall list and all the vehicles that are on there, the year of my vehicle fits in every single column. *tr
On 7-7-14, while driving home from the doctors' office, the vehicle slowed down. it was like i was driving on a washboard and was very hard to steer. when i pulled off the road and was backing up to park, it was as though i had no power steering. i turned the ignition switch off for a few seconds, and when i restarted the vehicle, i pressed on the brake pedal and attempted to move the shift lever, it would not move until i pressed the brake pedal as hard as i could. then the vehicle responded normally. this problem has occurred on several occasions. in june 2014, we took the vehicle to the dealership in an effort to correct the problem. they readjusted the brake pedal switch. i had no problem until 7-7-14 . we took the vehicle back to the dealership and they quoted us a cost of over $600.00 to replace the traction control module because they told us that it was unrelated to the first incident. however, the vehicle was doing the same exact thing as the first time we took it in. after reading other complaints identical to mine, i'm not very comfortable with what i'm being told regarding this problem. i'm the primary driver of this vehicle, since my husband suffered a stroke on 2-18-2013. too bad you buy a vehicle and do not feel safe driving it. i hope no one is injured or killed before something is done to correct this problem. *tr
On two occasions the power steering has gone out while i started my car. each time this occurred i was unable to steer the vehicle. it was very dangerous to drive as it was very difficult to make right and left hand turns.
Power steering module went out and i need that module, i bought it used and i did not know anything of a recall i was not told anything about it. *tr
Power steering stopped working. it was working fine, i parked went in to school to get daughter came out and it wasn't working. service stabilitrak light on. *tr
When i put my vehicle in park and try to turn off my car, the key gets stuck in the ignition more often than not. i then have to turn it on, back up, pull forward, and turn it off again to see if it will let me take the key out. sometimes i have to do this 5-6 times! *tr

My chevrolet equinox power steering locked up while backing out of the drive way. gm is recalling certain vehicles with the power steering locking up. it bothers me that certain vehicles are being recalled when others are not with the same problem. i have gone online to find other people that have encountered the same issue with this vehicle. it is very inconvenient to have to come out of pocket to pay for a replacement gm should have taken care of. *tr

I had to jump start my vehicle and my power steering was not working. *tr
The steering column quit working on our 2007 equinox (confirmed by chevrolet dealership). car had to be towed because of danger when driving. car has fewer than 50,000 miles. dealership said this was a common problem. the column would quit working and signal could not get to steering motor. approximate cost - 728.00 not including tow charge. *tr
I was driving and all of a sudden the steering got really hard i've been doing research and it appears there has been more cars like mine with the same problem definitely there should be a recall of somewhat plus the dealership is charging me $750 for repairs. *tr
I was leaving my driveway and my electric power steering quit working. i ended up in the other lane because my car wouldn't turn. luckily there was no one else using that lane at the time. now i see a recall in the news in which gm says they want to get all vehicles that could be effected, but they don't include the equinox.? *tr
I have multiple issues currently and they all seem to be listed on other complaints. 1. the driver side window has completely stopped working. it seems to have become disconnected to the motor as i can hear the motor going up and down within the door. 2. stabilitrak warning and engine light are constantly turning on and off. this has happened on and off over the past year or so but the dealership could not get a reading from the computer. now it has been on for the past 2 weeks constantly 3. the temperature gauge in the instrument panel does not work. took it into the dealer and they replaced the thermostat a few days later the gauge went haywire again. it gets worse when i fill up with gas and tends to mirror the gas gauge reading most of the time. 4. the key will not come out of the ignition when turning off the car. this is extremely frustrating. i put the car in park, turn the key off, the engine turns off but the key will not come out of the ignition. have to turn car back on, put it in and out of park, turn the wheel, back up, drive forward or just sit and wait a few minutes and it comes out. 5. occasionally the electronics go crazy - the turn signals won't work and the radio shuts down. it makes a sound when it does this as well, like a clicking noise but it only lasts for a few seconds and i can't figure out what causes it. *tr
The vehicle just started to slow down, it was difficult to steer to get off the road. it felt like the car was locking up. there was a strong burning smell. i was concerned that there would be a fire. the vehicle would not go backward or forward. a tow truck had to be called. the diagnosis was the power brake booster, which they replaced. two weeks later the car locked up again. now they are saying the entire braking and stabilizer system has to be replaced. *tr
While driving home my car suddenly became very very hard to steer i could not make right or left turns without extreme difficulty turning the wheel. in fact it felt like the power steering had completely went out in the 2007 equinox. when i went to the chevrolet garage they were no help but to tell me they would not do a thing until i paid $89 they would not even say if this was an issue experienced by anyone else in the past or about how much it could even cost if they found something. when i left the car started to act correctly but the stabilitrak service light came off and on again we asked about this at the garage they would not comment on that until we paid $89.00. as i did not feel safe at all driving the car i remembered another place here in town that handled cars and the rebuilding of most any main featured items from motors to transmissions and went there the auto mechanic took the car for a drive of course the stabilitrak service light did not come on but the steering once again acted up. he immediate informed me that it was the power steering motor and we ordered it and had it installed last week june 20th. the garage had a lot of trouble getting the part because they had to deal with a dealer here in town and they gave them a very hard time. during this wait to get the part and have it installed the steering only acted up during the cold months but once the weather warmed up i did not have a problem and the light issue stopped. with the new motor the car drove well this weekend but now the light has again come on for the stabilitrak service. this is so very annoying as i have no faith in the dealerships here as all they can say we need $89 to even step over to look at it. believe me when i say i will never buy a chevy again.
While driving on interstate 95 going 70 mph , the steering locked up and i lost power when all the dash lights started flashing. this was the day after i bought the car from auto showcase of belair md. the power steering going out happened atleast 7 times in the first two weeks alone. i requested for them to take the car back, they refused.. 4 weeks into owning this car the power steering issue was finally resolved.during that time period i found out that the car sold to me was stolen, the dealer did not tell me that and showed me paper work that was not a car fax report. three months later in october of 2013 my car started over heating and cutting power off to the engine while driving the speed limit on 95. it happened 5 times. a mechanic looked it over and said the head gaskets were blown. after a month it was fixed. one month later in december, my car would shut off on me while driving. i am not joking when i say that happened over 100 times. i have over 20 videos of this happening up until just recently in february of 2015. so the issue now, other than my car just randomly shutting off while driving, is my head gaskets blew again. i have been looking on line and have found this to be a serious problem for thousands of other chevy equinox owners! why has this particular model not have recalled!? this model is dangerous to anyone that drives it or just happens to be on the road near them. when my car has shut off on me over 100 times ihave cut multiple drivers off every time trying to make it to the shoulder. this needs to be recalled! this vehicle model is far from safe and i do believe that you know this. you can look up any chevy equinox forum on the internet and find these incidents. *tr
I own a 2007 chevy equinox i was on the highway when my suv steering wheel got very hard on me, couldn't even move it at all, i got very scared got of the freeway. i parked to the side to see what was wrong waited for a bit started with my vehicle again but couldn't move the steering wheel very hard to move by that point i just wanted to go home, no lights came on to warn me of problem. then the tracking control and stability lights came on after 45min. got home parked the vehicle. next day the steering wheel was ok everything seemed ok. today (06/25/2013) same problem steering wheel very hard couldn't turn left nor right almost had an accident. took it to car dealer chevrolet was diagnose with power steering module control price $798.50 this definitely needs to be a recall. help *tr
On saturday may 25, 2013 my 2007 chevrolet equinox would not start. the key had gotten stuck in the ignition and i did not remove it and i think that killed the battery. i tried to jump start the car with no success. finally on sunday may 26,2013 i had a professional come jump start it. after it started the power steering went out and the stabilitrak warning light came on. this has never happened before and i don't know what's causing it. i read in the forum that there were several other equinox's with the same problem. i think it should be a recall. *tr
The power steering computer modular failed on 3/26/13. there was no warning or recall for this problem. this was unexpected and caused me a great deal of stressed. i had to spend a lot of money to fix the problem. this vehicle alerts me on everything else, such as low gas, change oil, etc...yet it do not alert me of a major problem? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the power steering suddenly failed. the vehicle was not taken to a mechanic. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was not available. the vin was not available.
I was attempting to make a right hand turn from a parking lot onto a main street. the steering wheel would not turn without great force and i ended up on wrong side of road. i got the car to a repair place and was told the power steering motor had burnt up and the stabilizer light had just came on. this happened without any forewarning. i was lucky there was not any traffic or i would of been involved in a head on collision. i now understand this is very common with this vehicle and should of been a recall by general motors. the danger this could cause as it occurs with no warning at all. my cost to repair this was $1400. *tr
