Several months ago, i was notified that my car was affected by the takata airbag recall. according to the recall information online, my car is not required to be fixed until between 2017 and 2019. the corolla i drive is my main source of transportation for my child and his friends, yet it is recommended that i not drive with anyone in the front passenger seat. this is unacceptable to me. i have the car fully paid off, it is in decent condition, yet i cannot use it in the manner for which it was purchased. i think toyota should give me full market value for what the car is worth so i can purchase another safer car. i will still lose in the end, as i intended to drive this car for a few more years. but at least i can drive my child and his friends safely.
So far....nothing has occurred, however a known fact is more than a nuisance....not being able to use one's front passenger seat . i either do not carry passengers at all...or must insist they sit in the rear with me as chauffeur....i can imagine the scope of this issue, however i feel toyota is taking much too long in getting customers to the next step of replacing the airbag.

Approximately 3 months ago i received a recall stating that due to the possibility of shrapnel, i cannot have a passenger in my front passenger seat. after calls to the dealer, and also toyota customer service, i have received no information as to when the will be able to fix the situation. although i am lucky that my spouse has their own vehicle that we are now relying on, there are many people who may not and may risk injuring themselves/loved ones by having someone in the passenger seat when the airbag goes off and potential has shrapnel.

I received a notification from toyota yesterday regarding the recall for passenger side airbags. the recall letter says that the inflator can rupture "striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death." it says the repairs should be performed immediately and that the front passenger seat should not be occupied. after contacting my toyota dealership, i learned that i cannot be seen for almost 3 months to get the necessary repairs completed. i contacted the customer experience center to file a complaint and they suggested i contact the local dealership for a rental. the dealership reports they are not giving rentals (even on an as needed basis) due to the sheer numbers of recalls they are handling...i am severly concerned that such a strongly worded recall went out reporting that the "occupants" (not one) could be injured related to this defect and yet there is a 3 month delay in repairing my vehicle. it appears that this issue is related to humidity and i live on the gulf coast where it is always humid and moist. it is distressing to me that i am now expected make arrangements with other people or another vehicle if i need to transport five people in my (as i did this weekend with my nieces and nephews). it is annoying that any other passenger would be expected to ride in the back and hope that they are not one of the occupants affected by metal fragments that could pass through the airbag.....while i am certain this is very difficult for toyotal to manage, it is disappointing to me that it is acceptable for me to be allowed to drive this car for an additional 3 months knowing the risk. i am hoping that someone can look into how toyota is handling the recall and if they are seriously taking into consideration the safety of those who were unlucky enough to choose toyota years ago (a mistake i will not make in the future)....updated 10/20/15 *bf updated 2/24/2016*js updated 12/05/2017*cn

Over two months ago i received a interim safety recall notice regarding the air bags on my car informing me i can't ride in the passenger seat/or my spouse. i have spoken with toyota on 3 different occasions & have been warned not to ride in the passenger seat but they don't have a date on when my car will be fixed. i have informed them that i am planning on a trip - and don't feel i should have to ride in the back seat i requested a loaner and have been told no. i didn't pay over $18,000 for a car that i can't ride in and think i have been more than patient in waiting to get my air bags fixed. when i spoke with toyota they said it the major cities are getting fixed first. i paid my car off over six years ago and feel my family's lives are worth just as much as the next person. when i purchased my car, the biggest selling features were the air bags as i have children/grandchildren and their safety is very important to me. me & my husband feel they should at least give a safe loaner vehicle so we can be safe on our trip. this is very inconvenient & feel toyota is just trying to get out of a lawsuit if there is an accident. thank you for any assistance you can give me. *tr

Waiting for repair of recalled part. toyota is not moving fast enough to repair passenger airbags. still no time frame.
Takata recall the un-availability of parts to remedy the air bag problem has already exceeded an excessive amount of time. we have received no notification as to when we may expect them to be shipped to our dealer. the recommendation not to operate the vehicle as is because toyota is trying to insure our safety is utter nonsense. a far better course of action is to have the air bag(s) in question deactivated. i would like to be informed as to how i may have this accomplished.
Takata recall. toyota sent me a recall notice months ago, with the following text, "...we recommend that you do not operate the vehicle with an occupant in the front passenger seat." it also says (in red type), "we are currently preparing parts for your location; we will send you another notification once sufficient parts have been produced and the remedy can be performed." that recommendation is impossible to comply with, and toyota has offered no other remedy. from what i read in the newspapers, these takata air bags are like a loaded gun pointed at the car occupants. essentially, toyota has done nothing for me, and has only attempted to guard its own ass in case my airbag explodes and injures someone. when one uses one's seat belts (which is always in this car) there is no need for air bags. to have an air bag that actually threatens the life of the occupants is totally unacceptable. i want this airbag removed, but the recall notification makes no mention of that as a possibility.
