Common Reasons Why Mazda CX-5 AC may not be working

Common Causes of Air Conditioning Malfunction

1. Insufficient refrigerant (see section: Repair Tips)
2. Defective air conditioning compressor (is a rattling noise audible?)
3. Broken air conditioning condenser (usually due to stone chips, as it normally lies behind the radiator)
4. Clogged filters (always be sure to replace during the inspection of the Mazda CX-5)
5. Broken throttle or expansion valve
6. Heat exchanger or thermostat
7. Air conditioning pressure switch is defective

Mazda CX-5 Air Conditioning Smells – What to Do?

If your Mazda CX-5's air conditioning smells or has a strange odor, this is likely due to a broken evaporator - hence the formation of fungi or bacteria. We strongly recommend cleaning or disinfecting your Mazda CX-5's air conditioning every two years.

Checking & Testing the Mazda CX-5's Air Conditioning Function

To test or check your Mazda CX-5's air conditioning, do the following:

1. Start the engine and set the ventilation to level 2. Leave the air conditioning off for now.
2. Close all air channels except yours (driver's seat).
3. Adjust the ventilation so that it reaches your upper body or head.
4. Optionally, measure the temperature of the airflow.
5. Now set the air conditioning to "very cold" and activate it.
6. The airflow should become noticeably colder within 5-10 seconds and stay cold.
