Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the vehicle stalled without warning while driving 65 mph. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 180,000.

I received a safety recall notice from chrysler for my jeep commander stating that i may experience an unintended change in ignition switch position while driving, which could result in loss of engine power, power steering, and braking, and increases my risk of a crash. i have called chrysler group recall center 1-800-853-1403, option 6 countless times, unfortunately many times having to hang up after waiting 25 minutes to get through. i have also repeatedly called beyer/jeep/chrysler 973-644-3200 and they have been very short with me and tell me the same thing every time i call- they have no date of when the part will be in. when i drive on the highway, i am terrified of losing control of my car. i have seen on the news people that have been in accidents because of this ignition switch and heard that chrysler has a buyout program. i am interested in finding out about this program because i think that waiting over a year, and with no resolution in sight, is a bit ridiculous and i dont want to become a statistic. please advice me as to what my next step should be.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle stalled as all of the warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. the contact also received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 79,000.

Vehicle was parked at the gas station. it was working fine previously. had been at dealer getting routine maintenance done 2 weeks prior. after filling tank with gas, got in and car engine had loud bang followed by the sound of bucket of bolts. car was then towed to dealer where i was informed the car needed a complete long block. after doing extensive forum research, i am finding that there are more reports of this problem. i also understand that chrysler is aware of a design problem but will not admit or process a recall for this problem. *tr

While driving on sunday july 6, 2014, my vehicle suddenly shut off and lost power steering. we were able to pull off and restart the vehicle. this happened a couple of times and then seemed to run normal. *tr

We were on a main road coming up to a stoplight when the engine suddenly stalled. hands were still on steering wheel. had my son and sister with me. had to put the car in "park" and restart the engine. did not get hit, but dangerously close to being hit from behind. *tr

While driving and turning a left corner resulted in loss of engine power, power steering, and braking. this has happened on several occasions and we have stopped driving the family vehicle due to this safety issue which is not deemed safe to drive especially up and down hills....we had to purchase another vehicle since the recall fix is still not available and won't be for over 1 year! *tr

Prior to 06-06-14 @115,616 miles began noticing issues with vehicle not starting. after several attempts vehicle would start. however knowing this was a re-occurring issue the vehicle was taken to the service dept. to be inspected (dealership of purchase and all maintenance/repairs performed at same location). 23 point inspection preformed, starter was checked out and found to be bad. the starter assembly was replaced. 12-29-14 @ 121,251 miles regular maintenance programed followed (i.e.) lube, oil and filter. 23 point inspection preformed for the 120,000 miles service: replaced the air filter and pcv valve, flushed the cooling system, replaced rear wiper blades, removed throttle body and cleaned, induction service, replaced the frt crank seal, cleaned and replaced the serpt belt. replaced the frt brake pads and rotors. 01-13-15 @ 121,854 miles vehicle taken to service dept. due to engine light coming on and flashing while driving to work the day before. very alarming situation related to engine light on and flashing, vehicle seeming to have poor acceleration and not wanting to pick up any speed even when gas pedal pressed. tested and checked, traced found #3 injector, wiring and connector "chewed up". the injector and connector assembly were replaced. system retested. 05-11-15 @ 124,424 miles perform lube, oil and filter at service dept. 06-29-15 @ 125,572 miles vehicle's engine light on. taken to service department. 3 or 4 codes on diagnostic test. could be engine misfire or transmission. codes cleared told to bring back in if engine light comes on again. next day engine light back on and vehicle back to service dept..injector #4 bleeding:replace injector, spark plugs and preformed induction service. "nothing you could have done to prevent it has to do w/ seals inside engine." temp sensor in transmission replaced, torque converter replaced.

The car intermittedly shuts off while driving. diagnostics lights for whole dashboard will come on. the car shuts off at least 1 to 2 times per month.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving various speeds, the temperature warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was restarted and there was an abnormal noise coming from the engine compartment. the contact indicated that the failure exhibited the same symptoms as listed in nhtsa campaign number: 08v203000 (power train). the vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

My beloved jeep commander suddenly shut off while driving at 40mph. with no prior problems or warning signs the engine completely stalled- instantly i lost both power steering & brakes. needless to say i was terrified. after much confusion & hassle i was told to replace my key. (reason being the 'chip' inside was malfunctioning.) i replaced the $270 key which solved nothing. to my surprise, many commander owners experience this same problem with no help from jeep. not only do jeep dealerships ignore the potential recall warning on the commander, but they actually recommend expensive 'solutions' that do not even touch the known problem. it seems as though there are no solutions for this faulty system, given that no dealership can successfully stop the shutting off. there are way too many owners experiencing the same dangerous stall. i cannot in good conscience ignore the fact that this problem goes beyond inconvenience; this is potentially very dangerous and the jeep commander needs to be recalled. *tr

While driving down a service road, my 2006 jeep commander stalled and the check engine light came on. it would not restart, and was towed to the dealership. the dealership says that the valve and valve seating came loose, and fell into my cylinder, damaging the piston. they are now saying that i need a new engine, as mine has too much damage to repair. i contacted jeep customer care, and they are unwilling to repair the damage. the vehicle cost $12,500 and the new engine, only 2 months after purchasing it, will cost roughly $7,000 without including labor. from my research, this is a fairly common problem, that jeep knows about, but is unwilling to fix. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the contact also mentioned that the electrical components intermittently failed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000. the vin was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was able to be restarted. the failure was recurring over a period of one year. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 92,000. *tr

Upon starting the vehicle heard to be what sounded like a loud exhaust leak under the passenger side of the engine. while driving the noise seemed to lessen / go away. upon doing research many reports that if you hear an "exhaust leak" upon start up then fade away, it could be a possibility that the exhaust manifold bolts have broken. i took it upon myself to look under the hood on the passenger side while the vehicle was cold, and low and behold the bolt that goes through the heat shield and manifold and into the engine block was cracked in two pieces separating the manifold from the block. i call my mechanic, he said bring it down right away, he looked at it and saw that there was 2 bolts broken on the passenger side. again many complaints from customers online about the same problem, and the only way to fix this issue is to lift the engine out of the vehicle to drill out the broken bolts that are stuck in the block. now. my mechanic tries everything all sorts of angle tools, other tools and cant remove the bolts, so the only thing left to do is lift the engine. i have the engine lifted and find that there were more bolts broken on the driver side as well. i go to the dealer and buy all new "upgraded bolts" ( as the dealer specified) for this along with gaskets, rear main seal, fan clutch, oil pan gasket etc. i explain to the dealer the problem and they admit to the problem but there's no recall on the 4.7l only on the hemi for the broken manifold bolts. i ask what was the problem. the dealer replied " the manufacturer installed the wrong grade bolts from the manifold to the block." now i'm out almost $3500 for parts and labor for a known problem that hasn't been recalled, this is something chrysler/jeep should be on top of considering this is an ongoing issue. this is my second jeep, and i'm not sure i'd purchase another one. *tr

Was driving down road and lost power, car stalled. this has happened a total of 3 times with yesterday being the 3rd event and i was traveling about 55 mph with the last incident. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that a sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 90,000. the vin was not available.

Engine idles when stopped and sometimes the jeep lunges forward. lights on dash come on intermittently. tires keep needing replaced even when getting the jeep continually balanced and rotated. they wear down on the outer rim of front tires only. have to keep getting new batteries because vehicle keeps dying. i have had more problems with this vehicle since i bought it new in 2006 than i have had with a car in a lifetime. interior power stations don't work, passenger window will not close or open at times. some times the horn will just start going off. i keep receiving recall notices almost yearly. jeep needs to recall this vehicle. it has been a lemon from the second i brought it home. *tr

I have 2006 jeep commander in which i am experiencing issues with the ignition switch on my vehicle. the defective ignition switch causes every light on my dashboard to illuminate and it causes my vehicle to stall, as well as flickering lights with no power to fuel gauges, mph, and rpm needles. after all the lights illuminate and go away the check engine light stays on, and the defective ignition switch drains my battery causing my vehicle to not start without a jump start by the next day. with a slight tap on the key it will move some or a bump in the road will make the ignition switch start acting up and make some of the previously described symptoms act up. occasionally there are clicks that come from the ignition switch after the vehicle has started, which signifies that the defective ignition switch is going to fail soon. i received the notification from the chrysler corporation about the recall and that my vehicle is included in it, but haven't received the second notice to this date about when the part would be available. i called in november to check and see what can be done but i was told the same thing that no parts are available. so this leaves me at the end of the road with this vehicle. i check online almost all the time for updates and still the same thing. i have been following this recall since it popped up in the news before i received notification from chrysler, because i have had this problem with my vehicle. i am scared for my life that the key will move into the wrong places disabling my car or when the ignition switch acts up it will make me loose control of my vehicle and it could be dangerous for me or any of my passengers even fatal. safety should be chryslers number one priority. at this point i hope to get rid of this car and move away from chrysler's products for good especially since fiat is running the show! *tr

Exhaust manifold bolts broken allowing gases into the passenger compartment.

2006 jeep commander 4.7l v8 stalls when coming to a stop. multiple instances (over 12) between the first occurrence approximately mid december 2013 and today 11 january 2014. all stalls happened when coming to a stop except for one instance when it stalled while in reverse. a drop in rmps and lighting/instrument failure accompanies the stall. chrysler's recall n32 was completed october 2013. vehicle has been owned since early 2011 with no stalling of this type having occurred prior to this. no instrument panel indication (e.g. check engine light) accompanies the stall. vehicle restarted on all occasions after shifting to park or neutral. *tr

I was stopped at an intersection. when i proceeded to go across the intersection, the vehicle started going but very slowly no matter how much i pressed the accelerator and there were cars coming at me. it drove very slowly for a couple of blocks and i came to another stop. as i started to go into the intersection again, the vehicle started off very slowly even with the accelerator to the floor. as i proceeded it went a little faster but not much faster. my daughter informed me that this same thing happened to her earlier when she was driving the jeep and she turned it off and she cut it off completely then restarted it and it ran fine. i proceeded to do the same thing(cutting it off completely and turning it back on) and it ran well again. when i took it to the dealership, they sad that they were unable to duplicate the same problem and can not fix what they can't find. *tr

P41 recall. before recall my 2006 jeep commander turned off on its own numerous times. this resulted in engine shut down, no electrical system, etc. i have contacted chrysler several times. i get the same response, part not available. why? i am told the supplier does not have part. why not?. this is an old recall, however chrysler is repairing or buying back newer models of vehicles due to faulty design. 2006 jeep commander recall is just as serious as newer recalls. the faulty ignition switch results in entire shut down of jeep, including air bags. i was told to adjust seat so that knee does not make contact with keys in ignition. what? i suggest that vehicles with faulty ignition switch be a part of the chrysler buy back or repair immediately. also, to avoid further serious accidents and possible death resulting form faulty ignition switch.

Sept 7 the engine just cut out of gear and stopped running had to pull over to the side of the road before being hit from behind as it stalled.pulled over shut off the engine, restarted it and it was firm...drove a few miles and the light went off. the same thing just happened again on i-95 in baltimore traveling at 65 mph. engine light came on. pulled over shut off the engine, restarted it and it was firm...drove a few miles and the light went off. *tr

It saddens me to write this letter concerning the poor service i received on my 2006 jeep commander at one of your dealerships. i purchased the car last november in manassas, va, and the car ran great up until about a month ago, when all of the indicator lights would come on and then the car would abruptly shut-off. this behavior went on for about a week and then i took it to the dealer (darcars chrysler jeep dodge of new carrollton) located at x your jeep service center diagnosed the problem to be the pcm assembly which cost about 800.00, and was not covered by my extended warranty. after negotiating with the gwc warranty company, they agreed to pay half, which was 500.00 and we paid the balance of 577.00. after authorizing the repair, i was called on saturday, august 17th to pick up the vehicle. ironically, when i got in the vehicle, it wouldn't start., so the mechanic had to give me a jump. after having the car home for a few days, the problem re-appeared again. the same exact symptoms! i called the jeep dealership and the service center manager, leo, told me to bring the car back. this time i requested a rental car so i could continue to go to work while they diagnose my car again. they kept my care through the labor day holiday and informed me it was my battery. this doesn't make sense. i never had a problem with the battery until they started working on the car, so i had to pay an additional 277.00 (including car rental charges) for a new battery. i picked up the car yesterday, september 5, 2013, and this morning, i brought my daughter to school and the problem occurred again! i am beyond upset and frustrated. i have spent over 800.00, and my car is still not reliable.

I have just purchased this used 2006 jeep commander 1 week ago. the vehicle is in great condition, no previous accidents, no engine lights/error codes. on the 2nd day of owning the jeep i experienced my first stall, and since then 4 more stalls. there is no engine lights, error codes, etc. the vehicle seems to be 100% okay, however the vehicle has just shut off 4 times losing brakes, steering, lights, etc - whether i am moving or at a stop. at first i thought "i must have bought a lemon" but i have been reading through several forums and blogs that there are 100's if not 1,000's of people who are experiencing the same issue with their 5.7l hemi commander, and some of the blogs date back to 2006 when these vehicles were brand new with less than a thousand miles on them. one person actually suffered an accident due to this electrical issue - losing control of steering and brakes. because their is no engine codes or lights dealerships are not assessing the issue at all or are just throwing parts at it hoping it is fixed and charging the customer a boat load of money. several people have identified that the issue potentially resides in the pcm and the ignition coils, some say that the coils put of an em interference that is disrupting the pcm. regardless - chrysler needs to get this fixed so no one else gets hurt, or killed. *tr

As i have now read online of hundreds of complaints regarding the same problem... i was driving down the hwy at 70 mph, the engine just quit on my and everything shutdown. i was able to move the car to the side (without and power steering) and stop completely, take out the key, reinsert it and it started up. no problems after that until i was driving the hwy again in september and it did it again with the same results. i have now taken it to the dealership (wolfchase jeep in germantown, tn) and they are replacing the map sensor and a couple of other things - including a manifold gasket - for a total of $1000. interestingly when i asked the service rep. if jeep has a problem with this, he denied any knowledge of such a problem! *tr

Ignition switch defective. it moved from run to acc while making a right turn onto a onramp going about 30 mph. it turned off the vehicle just like the defective gm switch did. it was attached to other keys and may have been bumped by knee during turn. *tr

While driving on hwy 97 south, passing through redmond oregon, the engine on our jeep commander shut off. my husband and i had no idea what to make of the engine shutting off. we had not received a recall notice yet. when we did receive recall p41/nhtsa 14v-438 i waited until i would receive the next notification. i have never received a notice or a phone call since the initial notification. i have written to the nhtsa, written to chrysler group llc and called the chryster group recall assistance center with an assigned customer care number 25941647. i have written to my congressman. i have many times called my local dealer who has give me the same response, "the parts are not available." in good faith i purchased this chrysler product. my complaint is that chrysler sent me a notice indicating that my vehicle would be repaired and safe to drive. chrysler is remiss. my jeep commander has yet to be repaired and continues to be unsafe to drive.

I was driving and when i accelerated the car seemed very sluggish and hesitant to switch gears. as i approached the stop light and came to a stop i noticed the car stalled. so i turned it off and restarted it. this has happen twice now that the car has just stalled. i have now noticed that since this incident my car has been idling rough and has been vary sluggish while driving, especially up hills. i am worried for my safety that this will happen again while i am driving. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated that while traveling 70 mph, the vehicle completely stalled. the vehicle was moved to the shoulder where it was restarted. the vehicle resumed normal function and was able to be driven to a private mechanic. the contact was informed that the throttle position and exhaust sensors had failed. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 131,000. the vin was unavailable.

While driving down the road the vehicle engine shuts off; airbag light flashes on as well as dash lights. this has happened approximately 10 times in the middle of a eight lane highway in rush hour. it has torn my nerves all to pieces trying to drive it under these conditions so i had to park it and buy another vehicle. need action soon. started approximately 2 years ago and has progressively gotten worse. notified chrysler and was told to remove all keys from ring except switch key; did that and it still happens

I was driving down the highway at 55mph. and out of nowhere the car rpm's dropped to 0 and the car died. as i pumped on the gas i looked in the rearview to make sure i was not going to get hit. after that i turned the car off in the middle of the highway and put on my hazards. it then turned on and after will go to 2 rpm's and then start to jerk back and forth. i have taken it to the dealership 3 times so far and as of now the 3rd time and 3rd with a rental it finally happened to the mechanic at the dealership. and he has no clue his words. so in a two week frame time i have only had my jeep 4 days why because they cant even figure out the problem. i have reported it to chrysler dealership and checked for a recall and they said there is no recall as of yet. i worry because this could cause a accident and typically i have my wife and two children in the jeep with me. if u go to carcomplaints.com and look up. this model u will see there are up to 60 more incidents. but the dealership/chrysler has yet to do anything. hopefully it does not seriously harm the owner of the jeep or a person who hits them. *tr

I was driving down the road and the engine just turned off, coasted to the side of the road and turned off the key and restarted engine, continuing down the road it happened again. it seems to have gone away and i made it home ok but my baby was in the car, what if i had been in a situation that prevented my safe pull over and we got into an accident. *tr

On the evening of 5/04/2013 while driving on the highway at a rate of between 65 & 70 mph my headlights along with my entire dashboard and instrument panel begin flickering and eventually went out! i pulled over turned the engine off and restarted it the headlight came on immediately, however the instrument panel flickered for a bit then eventually illuminated. went into autozone (@#$%) got a reading, was told it was a minor issue and to get it checked out. a couple days go by really not driving it much a little nervous, however when starting the vehicle none of the instrument panel is working, thy tachometer needle, the speedometer nothing, however the engine was running and it would shift in and out of gear, but it would jerk and stall and whenever i tried to make a left or right turn the brakes would grind and screech! "yites" thank god, we have another vehicle! anyway i called a local chrysler dealership and was told that i would have to be charged a diagnostic fee of $130.00 for each component tested??? really! anyway it gets better i called chrysler-jeep manufacturer and they told me that although my car was doing exactly what millions of other recalled commanders made in the same year 2006 were doing, my "vin" number wasn't on the recall list, gooooo figure! so yeah, although my jeep shifts in and out of gear on the highway, cluster board and headlights flicker off and it stalls like it going to shut off! no cigar! i guess i'll bring to where i purchased it from and use my "max care warranty" god give me the strength! *tr

While driving down interstate, engine just stopped. power brakes and steering stopped working also. made it to shoulder of road and took several minutes to restart. check engine light is on also. previous day 4/23/13, the traction control light came on, but has since gone out. *tr

My 2006 commander stopped accelerating in fact it felt like i was driving against a wind blowing headon faster then i was driving ,then the jeep started jumping like a hick-up then my tail lights stopped working and lower dash lights went out and my warning lights in dash came on,the vehicle stalls out at idle or at start of acceleration not very good took to dealer was told i need a new front control module and new cooling fan ,nwe speed relay costing $1063.00 im not to sure about it and they tell me that it has no recall ?? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep commander. the contact stated while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. a crash occurred after the failure occurred. the contact also mentioned that the electrical components intermittently failed. the failure was diagnosed by a private mechanic where the failure was unable to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 85,000 and the current mileage was 113,8096.

I purchased the commander in september 2012. it ran great for a few months and then it started to stall. i replaced the maps sensor and tps sensor and it's still stalling. the stalling is at random and has happened many time while i was on the highway going 65+. that's exteremly dangerous and this issue should have been resolved by now. doing research online i know see that there is thousands of people with this very same issue and no one has successfully resolved it. there is an obvious defect with this jeep and chrysler needs to be held accountable. i blame myself for not doing any proper research before purchasing. i will never buy another chrysler product again.
