The brake pedals becomes very stiff at low speeds and does not brake properly. i rear ended a vehicle at 15 miles an hour because the truck did not stop.

I came up to an intersection, pressed my brakes, and they were hard to press causing me to run the red light and almost hit another vehicle. even if a part fails, this should not be an outcome. brake petal so hard you can't get the vehicle stopped.
Brakes suddenly lock and the peddle to break gets really stiff that when im trying to brake it does not work... i have had this issue happen to me twice already , i was able to avoid an accident because i used the emergency brake,, i was out of town and when i was arriving to the hotel my brake peddle locked and could not brake the parking concrete stopper prevented me from hitting thr building , i noticed that when i shut off tht truck and turn it back on thry work normal again and i am able to brake just fine this happens randomly , i can be on my normal routine for a month then all of a sudden the brake peddle gets stuck,, it looks like its a software glitch like the stability track turning on when its not supposed to , other people are having these issues with these trucks, please investigate..
Breaks do not work at low speed in reverse, break pedal goes all the way to the floor and excessive pressure must be applied in order to stop vehicle, this is extremely unsafe due to low visibility when backing the vehicle.
When truck is put in reverse, all power brakes are lost. assumption is a fault vacuum pump
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, the pedal was very difficult to depress and the stopping distance increased. the vehicle was taken to abeloss gmc (1169 north 9th st, strougsburg pa, 18360) where it was diagnosed that the brake booster was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 80,000.
At slow speeds and brake pedal requires immense force (~200lbs) to press and engage brakes. significant grinding can be felt in the pedal. this often requires emergency brake usage to stop. condition is intermittent. occasionally happens in reverse occasionally forward with wheel turned or without.
Brake pedal randomly requires significantly higher pressure to slow/stop the vehicle, particularly at slow speeds. has happened 2-3 times over the past year and this week is occurring more frequently; even daily.
While backing slowly on a boat launch ramp, petal was depressed all the way and the tow vehicle did not stop immediately. felt as though the petal was to the floor, vehicle rolled up to several feet before stopping. towing roughly 6800 lb. which is within specification limit for this specific vehicle.
All happened same day. was 8 hours from home and pulling into parking spot and the brakes went to the floor 3 times. has not occurred since. but when that happened the air started blowing warm and the service driver assist came on briefly. still air is blowing warm and the service driver assist comes on. have never had a check engine light come on. i am having it checked out this week.
Two different times being at low speed almost a roll. went to apply brakes and truck barley stopped. hard brake pedal, brake pedal to the floor. once on a highway in extreme heavy traffic on a down hill. second time rolling making a turn to park in a parking lot and almost struck police car and a gas pump.
The vacuum assist pump on my 2014 gmc sierra went out suddenly during my morning commute. the brake pedal became very firm and the brakes were unresponsive. if i had been driving in an congested area an accident would likely occur.
I lost the use of my brakes at low speed today, the pedal became extremely hard and needed increased effort to depress the brake pedal, took to a gmc dealer they couldn't recreate the same issue and they are returning my vehicle without any repairs.
Brakes have not been working at slow speeds. this has been going on for a few years. brought it to a brake specialist who could not find the problem. researched it on the internet and found that many people were having problems with a similar issue. they thought it was a faulty vacuum pump. brought it to gmc beaman in nashville, tn and saw [xxx] (service advisor for beaman automotive). they reported they were not willing to fix the issue and that it would be close to $1000 to fix it. i find this unacceptable after doing research and finding that gmc's parts (not wear and tear) are more likely than not the etiology of the problem. i ask that the dealership be contacted regarding this given the obvious safety risk of the large vehicle not being able to stop. regards, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tt *tr
Brake pedal became very stiff and unresponsive at low speed. almost hit another vehicle. had to use emergency brake to come to complete stop. online forums say brake vacuum pump.
At low speeds braking is very hard can barely push in the brakes. sometimes i have to use the emergency brake. truck has 69,000 miles. at the brake place they said i had a bad vacuum for the brakes and is very common in this truck
Brake pedal got hard , the dash center gave no warning and still has no fault light or any brake warnings lights. we where driving on a city street ,when the brakes stopped working, driving through a red light because we couldn't stop the vehicle and popped the street curb, into an empty property lot
On two separate occasions, each at the end of a two hour drive, i was pulling into a parking space and lost all power to my brakes. they did not depress to the floor, they seemed to almost push back. at that point i pushed harder and the brake pushed to the floor. in both instances i almost hit the parked cars next to me. due to not having proper braking i had to back up and pull back in, brakes continued to do the same thing. after coming back to my truck in both instances, once after a week at the airport and another after a four hour appointment, my brakes worked fine. this happened on july 16, 2018 and april 11, 2019.
Was driving through dunkin donuts drive thru when lost my brakes. had to press the break pedal as hard as i could to get the truck to stop. the truck continued to roll after doing so almost hitting car in front of me. then sounded like abs pump kicked kn. then everything went back to normal.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving various speeds, the vehicle hesitated to decelerate and the brake booster warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer and the brake booster was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 124,000. *bf purchased date 08/03/2015 *tp received money back and opened another case *tp case no. 9-5610299860. *tp
Vacuum pump on brakes went out while driving downhill in a canyon. could have been a lot worse if weather conditions were not good.
Brake assist failed with out warning, brake pedal gets hard, did first time at slow speed in reverse, extreme difficulty in stopping. luckily was nothing behind me in parking lot. found out common problem with vacuum pump failure in this year with average mileage around 80,000, i have 86,900 miles. problem got continued after leaving parking lot when doing 30 mph tried to stop for traffic light, had to push pedal with extreme force to try and stop truck, again fortunately nothing in front of me, so there was no accident
2014 gmc sierra vacuum pump failure at 81,201 miles. this seems to be an epidemic with these trucks. i tow an 8,000 pound trailer and to think the truck brakes could potentially not work is insanity. how does gm make the steering electric on this truck and put electric vacuum pumps on the camaro's and corvettes but decides to put a mechanical vacuum pump on the trucks? this is an immediate safety defect that needs to be addressed.
Brakes will just lock up and has already cause me a couple of wreaks, gm should really fix this brake issue..it's a safety issue for sure and they should be held responsible.. gm seems to have gone to for crappy workmanship and poor customer service!!!!
The brakes on my truck failed and i hit my brick mailbox. i took it to a service center and they said the vacuum pump was not producing enough pressure at low rpms.
On 2/12/19 i was driving down a busy street at about 1:30pm i was trying to apply my breaks and i could not stop there was no breaks. i had to swerve into a little street to avoid crashing into another vehicle. i put my truck into park to stop my vehicle from crashing. i had my truck towed to my mechanic and my vacuum pump had to be replaced. which that is part of my breaking system. the reason i'm making this complaint is because this could have ended up in a fatality which i want to avoid. this part needs to be recalled and all vehicles need to be checked before this happens to someone else. because it happened to me it can happen to anyone that owns this vehicle. my truck had low miles only 76,470. this issue needs to be addressed immediately.
Brake pedal gets hard at red lights stopping power is reduced lack of power assistance
I seem to lose braking power at low speeds after pumping the brakes a couple of times. in order to stop i need to use much more force
Brakes loose pressure, when pressed on uphill/down hill,in reverse. ac hose from condenser to compressor is faulty leak out all fluid
Takata recall driving truck down interstate and it just cutoff no steering no breaks all power shuts off. i wait till truck is stooped and try wigging key and make sure gearshift is in right position. after a few min lights come on the dash and the truck will start back up. it says in the notification area in dash let driver side window down and up again. this has happen twice and both times i was on a interstate almost hit by cars behind me. i was driving about 65 mph going straight most time it would do this if i change lanes.
While backing up into parking space, truck felt like it was pushing something. brake peddle became hard and when not stop truck, causing vehicle to hit pole and damage both the truck and the pole.
Driving at low speed in traffic on a highway, brakes failed then locked-up causing truck to skid and hit the car in front.
At slow speed backing into a parking spot the break pedal turned really hard to press to stop the truck, it took a lot of force to stop it; shifted the truck into neutral to prevent hitting a pole, shifted the truck back to drive the truck was still showing the same problem the vehicle brake system was useless (unsafe) shifted back into neutral as pedestrians were walking by and used the emergency brake to stop the truck! please investigate into this issue the truck has less than 50k miles and all service is done at the dealership - after talking to them today they said the truck is out of warranty the potential cost to repair will be $2000
Drove my vehicle about 15 miles and parked it in a parking lot for about 10 minutes. when i returned and backed out of the parking space the brake pedal would not compress much at all unless i pushed on it with some body weight for leverage and only then the vehicle barely stopped - was travelling at a very low speed but still very hard to stop the vehicle. i tried to pump the brake pedal, then carefully moved the vehicle a couple of times to test the brakes and the condition repeated. i then parked the vehicle and shut off the engine momentarily. the condition persisted when i restarted the vehicle. i started to drive the vehicle slowly and carefully in a loop around the parking lot pumping the brakes a couple times and the pedal finally returned to normal. had i been on the highway when this condition occurred or had i been towing our 5k-lb trailer the consequences could have been catastrophic. reading online the issue appears common in gm trucks from 2014 up and the cause was often a failing vacuum pump. i located a copy of a service bulletin published internally by gm discussing the issue and prescribing a repair procedure. the bulletin noted that if engine oil escaped past the seal(s) of the failing vacuum pump replacement of the brake booster, master cylinder, and vacuum line may be required in addition to the pump. given the appearance of this as a common issue, fear of losing brakes again, and fearing that waiting may necessitate other braking components under the hood needing replacement if the oil seeped through the pump, i promptly replaced the vacuum pump. following the repair procedure prescribed in the gm bulletin there was no engine oil noted in the vacuum line so no further parts were replaced other than the pump and gasket. condition has not repeated after replacing pump 1k miles ago. vehicle had approx. 65k miles when this condition occurred.
We had the vehicle recall notice about the stability and power assist repaired at our preferred gm dealership, james wood, before the problem occurred because of a recall notice we received last year. sunday, january 30, 2018 the dash displayed power assist limited and also displayed abs light . service engine soon, so we brought it to the dealership again. this time the vehicle was revving high but no display. the dealership observed the vehicle doing this but we were told the recall had already been performed. there is a revised product safety recall reference number n172085440. i'm alerting the nhtsa of this.
Lost normal braking going down a steep hill at 25 mph , had to use both feet on the brake pedal just to stop.
I was driving on the highway and noticed my brake peddle became hard. i was in mild traffic so i was only traveling around 40 miles mph on i 287 i was not able to stop quickly. i did not get into an accident. i was able to get it to my dealer for repair. i was told that the vacuum pump needed to be replaced and parts of the pump were also sucked into the engine. i was also told that i would need to have the oil pan removed to remove any debris which would cost around $1100. at this time i still do not have the truck back or repair invoice. i have been researching and did see that there have been issues with the vacuum pumps on other gmc pickups. fortunately i was not driving at a high speed at the time of the issue.
While in motion, applied brakes and the pedal went to the floor without stopping. checked brake fluid and it was near empty. only 50,000miles.
Brake pedal gets very stiff at low speed and low rpm. no collision has happened but close calls have happened.
No warning of brake failure especially when backing down a hill at low r.p.m with a boat trailer. this is a very dangerous problem that needs to be addressed a.s.a.p. no warning lights were displayed and no issues before this happened. i'm just glad it was me and not someone else ( wife ) backing us in the water. please address this as a very serious issue. someone could have lost their life
My brake pedal gets hard with no brakes if i happen to be in a situation where i apply the brakes several times quickly, such as at the carwash or in a parking lot. the abs was not firing at the time. i was not turning. this has happened a number of times in the past 2 years.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving between 10-15 mph, the vehicle would not stop when the brake pedal was depressed. beck & masten buick gmc north (11300 fm 1960 w, houston, tx 77065) stated that the vehicle was not included in any open recalls. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 57,000.
Intermittent extreme loss of braking power - in forward and reverse. sometimes and unexpectedly cannot stop quickly even when brake pedal pushed to the floor.
The problem has occurred twice in the last week. both times in normal driving conditions and good weather conditions. while pulling in my driveway at low speed when i pushed on the brake pedal it was hard and would barely depress. there was no power assisted braking and it took me pressing as hard as possible with both feet to get my truck stopped before i hit my garage. this happened again when i was trailering my 1500 lb fishing boat. i was backing it down the ramp and brakes failed again. i had to again press brake pedal as hard as possible and use emergency brakes to stop. there was a noticeable grinding sound in the brakes while trying to stop. again as if there were no power brakes. both instances occurred while going 2 to 3 mph but if it happened in an area with pedestrians or at higher speeds it could result in serious property damage and injuries. please look into this and force gm to take corrective action asap.
At slow speeds the brake pedal becomes " flat" that is to say there is no travel or give in it and you must apply 110% force to get the vehicle to stop. i almost drove thru the garage door at the local jiffy lube dealer. had the local gmc dealer look at it & he could not find a solution to the problem.
When applying brakes at low speed like pulling out of driveway or away from a gas pump. if the brakes are pumped or pressed hard the brake pedal gives strong resistance and the truck will not stop. in order to stop the truck the emergency brake needs to be applied. the problem is worsened if on a downward incline when taking the truck out of the park position and moving into drive while holding foot on the brake.
