Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. the contact stated that the headlights were dim, which made it difficult to see well at night while driving. the contact stated that the vehicle was equipped with halogen bulbs. the contact upgraded to led bulbs, but the illumination did not get brighter. the vehicle was taken to charlie's chevrolet (877-688-4621, located at 1412 u s 202, winthrop, me 04364) where the technician recommended a diagnostic test. the test was not performed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle performed as designed. the contact was informed to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the contact upgraded to hid bulbs on his own, which offered better lighting than the original bulbs. the failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

The engine shuts off and it looses all power randomly when turning , it is noow started to shut off in traffic when lightly tapping the brakes..

Have a bad tail light on my right side and took it to elharts to see why it won't light up with new bulbs and they said that the whole tail light has to be replaced because it has bad wiring i don't feel that i should have to pay for this to be done when it's a manufacturer problem that it was bad when it was put into my truck the part alone will cost 215 .00 plus i have to pay taxes plus labor could be totally not happy would like not to come out of my pocket if i don't get it fixed it will cause a accident that could be very bad

Headlights on my 2014 gmc sierra 1500 slt are totally inadequate on high or low beam. the lighting distance is inadequate and is so directional that there is no side flair lighting for turning like you have with conventional headlights. this is a serious safety issue and needs to be addressed immediately by the nhtsa. i have had this vehicle for 41/2 years and the problem is ongoing since i bought it. the dealer has no solution. new hi/low bulbs, dealer installed and still very dim and unsafe.

Interior light flashes when stepping on break pedal

Was driving down the highway at highway speeds rolled the passenger window up the stereo cut off the gauges cut out and the wipers wipes in one time. then a message stating stabilitrak needed to be serviced and electronic power steering was out

My husband and i were driving on highway 1 just past montara beach. it was around 7:30 pm and already dark. we were going approximately 45 mph when all of a sudden, both headlights shut off on its own. we were approaching an extremely curvy stretch of road along ocean cliffs and there was nowhere to pull over. the symbol on the dash was lit up saying that our lights were on (even though they weren't). thankfully there was a car in front of us and one behind us that gave us enough light and time to react which meant we didn't have to jam on our brakes and hope for the best. we tried the high beams which also did not work. after turning knobs and pressing buttons (while driving) to get some illumination, we finally were able to turn on the fog lights which was enough to get us somewhere safe. this is extremely dangerous and should never happen to anyone. without the headlights from the car in front of us and behind us, this could have ended very badly, possibly even fatal. we were never able to get the headlights back on and plan on bringing the truck to a local gmc dealer tomorrow. unfortunately, even if we get it fixed, we will be worried every time we drive it at night knowing that this could have ended so much worse. we haven't even put 1000 miles on it since we purchased it.

I temporarily had no control over the vehicle causing me to have an accident. while driving down a residential street approaching a stop sign intersection i merged into the center of st to pass a trashcan and in the process of returning to my correct position on the road i suddenly had no steering. panicking from the loss i pressed my brakes an attempt to bring vehicle to a stop but was unsuccessful because the tires began a slide once noticing the traction loss i proceeded to release brakes and reapply in hopes of gaining traction the brief relief from brakes caused the vehicle to regain traction and while i still have no control over steering, the vehicle jerks towards the right side of the road and the brakes being reapplied the vehicle continues to slide off pavement making contact with stop sign and telephone pole.

During driving, the stability sensors would go off and show up stating stability turned off, or power steering turned off. the voltage on vehicle would suddenly drop from 15 to 9 and then back up. this will usually turn off the interior lights and electronics. i have discussed this with other 2014 sierra and silverado owners and they all advised this was occuring on their vehicles. there is a ground wire that was not properly installed under the dash which causes high resistance material to cause electrical issues. during one of my drives to work going 60 mph, the electrical components shut off and caused the engine to stop running. i was able to pull over while coasting on no power and restart the vehicle and it would continue to go. there have been times where the steering wheel would jerk while stationary as well. after many forum discussion this all related back to the ground wire not being properly installed by the manufacturer.

The headlights on this pickup make driving at night in rural south dakota almost impossible and even dangerous. i have owned this truck for only 2 weeks and found in order to drive at night i have to have the fog lights on to see, and even than it is not much better. the brights help none. can't even tell when they are on vrs not. there has to be a fix or something that can be done to fix this. driving at night is dangerous.

In the past 4 months, beginning at about 52k miles, i started receiving messages on my truck that said "stability control" was out and it locks the front left wheel, losing all steering, the radio and then the truck goes completely dead. the ac goes on/off and the headlights flicker. this is always at low speeds between 5-10 mph and most commonly when making a turn. i had the battery replaced at the dealership and now they're telling me i need a negative battery cable replacement?

No accident... yet! but have had multiple near misses, and feel it's just a matter of time. the headlights on this vehicle are extremely inadequate even after having the recommended headlight upgrade service bulliten completed by my local dealer.

The headlights and running lights are not adequate enough at nighttime to see . limited site distance and brightness. i dont like driving at night because of this creating a safety problem. looking at the possibility of installing led lights but dont think i should bare the cost since gmc has a problem they need to correct before i am hurt driving with these unsuitable lights they have installed on their vehicles.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. the contact stated that the headlights were not bright enough at night to see past 20 feet. the dealer could not diagnose or repair the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 26,000.

The headlights are unsafe for nighttime driving especially in darker rural areas and in bad weather. the side lighting from the headlights are nearly nonexistent especially around sharp curves. in order to read signs at night i often have to use my highbeams in order to read them regardless if there is traffic in front of me or oncoming. i drive home from work nightly with my high beams on the entire was unless there is a car close in front of me. i've yet to have oncoming traffic flash their lights at me do to having my highbeams on. i have made the dealership aware as well as corporate gm . as of now the only action they will take is to replace my old bulbs with the same bulbs they took out. this is an extremely common issue with this vehicle but yet no recall has been made. only a tsb which i can't even get my dealership to follow. *tr

The headlights are so dim i doubt it would be any less safe to drive around with them off. i just purchased this vehicle, and my first time driving at night i had to park, get out of the vehicle and check to see if the light bulbs were burned out. the bulbs were not burned out, but they also do not function as headlights because they literally illuminate nothing. i can see the shadow of my truck in front of me in other vehicles headlights as they pass me. if an object, an animal, or a person were in the road in front of me i doubt i would be able to see them before it was too late. i believe a sierra equipped with these headlights will likely be involved in a collision with serious injury, property damage, or even death. i can only pray and hope that i'm not one of them. gm has released a tsb with an expensive procedure to correct the problem signaling to me that they acknowledge that a problem exist. *tr

Gmc sierra my2014 headlight don't illuminate properly down the road, the headlight don't give good advisably during dry, fog, or wet conditions. it is kind of sad spending over 45k on a vehicle that doesn't illuminate properly. i have own other gm vehicles have better illumination. there has to be a way to get a fix for this trucks

Poor lighting (headlights), to the point where it is unsafe. worse yet, i didn't know about the tsb which gives a slight improvement, and cannot get it done at no cost to me due to my warranty being over by 4,000 miles.

The headlights are very dim. i can not see very far down the road and i can not see the shoulders of the roadway. it is not very safe to drive this vehicle at night with the factory installed headlights.

I purchased this truck new in october, 2014. my research prior to purchase showed a number of complaints about the headlights, but i did not think there were enough complaints for me to be concerned. i was wrong. i live in a rural area and the headlights are definitely inadequate on the low beam setting. the mechanical shutter design produces a very sharp beam cutoff at about the level of the hood, making it seem like you are sitting in a darkened area above a bowl of light. the projector headlights provide little, if any, illumination of objects on the side of the road. i use the fog/driving lights continually on the truck or i would not feel comfortable driving it with low beams in unlit areas. for the sake of comparison, i have attached two images taken on two consecutive mornings at approximately the same location on my driveway. the truck picture was taken approximately ten minutes later than the car picture (both were approximately 6:45 a.m.). note there is a slight perspective shift due to the height difference in the vehicles and the driving/fog lights were not on on either vehicle when the picture was taken. note the 25-year old technology sealed beam headlights show the fence posts at the right side of the vehicle where the gmc's headlights show a dark void. it honestly feels like you are driving through a tunnel of light in the truck. you have no hope of seeing any objects on either side of the road. there is a tsb on this issue that recommends replacing the bulbs and reprogramming the bcm. my truck has not had this performed because the dealership did not have the bulbs in stock when i asked about it. there is some debate on message boards regarding whether or not the update offers any benefits. additionally, the new bulbs allegedly have a significantly shortened life over the originals and they can be difficult to locate when needed.

Vehicle has poor headlight performance when driving at night. has been back to the dealer multiple times since purchase in 2014. reprogramming and headlight bulb replacement was ineffective. not safe to drive in rural/dark and or rain/snow/dark.

There truly is no accident at this time. however ... if this condition isn't corrected, there will be accidents. these may result in not only loss of life or property, but possible criminal prosecution. the issue: the projector headlamp design of the 2014 gmc sierra is extremely subpar for lighting the roadway ahead of you. individuals, in order to not "outdrive" their lights, would probably have to go below posted minimum speed limits on highways, presenting yet another issue for the driver as well as those who would approach from the rear in nighttime driving conditions. i contacted gmc ... aware of the issue. no help at this time. i got the impression from the operator that "not enough people have filed complaints." i'm guessing that when the catastrophic and tragic happens, it will not matter that not enough people filed complaints ... officially. slight research on the internet will show many individuals complaining about the issue. but gmc's admission that they are "aware" but are taking no action at this point is very disturbing. i would have thought that design issues would have had to be cleared by an oversight agency of some sort? i just discovered the extremely scary feeling of "driving in the dark" ... basically ... after having my truck since thanksgiving. but i drive mostly in the daylight, and have been on interstate 20 in one of the busiest sections with traffic at night ... not realizing how much others' lights were helping. when driving alone on a rural road, however, it is tantamount to driving with a flashlight when it comes to safety. i am wanting to trust that the agency tasked with safety will please look into this issue? before someone or multiples lose their lives and lawsuits ensue?

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. while driving 65 mph, the headlights became unresponsive and produced dim lighting on the road. the failure hindered the contact's visibility. the vehicle was taken to be repaired, but the issue recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 35,600.

I have returned my gmc crew cab sierra 2014 to the dealer 5 times because of inadequate headlights. the first time they service dept. readjusted them with no improvement. the third time back the bulbs were replaced per a bulletin and bcm reprogrammed. still no improvement especially on the right side. the fourth time i had my intelligence insulted when the service adviser told me it was because the garage door he shone them on was dirtier on the right side. what an excuse and only a fool would insult his own intelligence with that remark. the fifth time back the parts manager had ordered a new bulb for the right side and was consequently replaced a second time. i wrote a certified letter then to gm customer service and was contacted by mark 1-866-522-0300 ext.#5921569. he said i was supposed to take the vehicle to the dealership and leave it so they could drive it at nite. i did that and it was driven by paul and upon contacting him this am he told me the low beams were absolutely terrible and overall the headlights on the truck were as lousy as all the 2014 and 15 trucks are. upon picking the truck up this afternoon the same rediculis service advisor (wally) told me that he didn't drive it and paul did and told him there was no problem with the lights. who is the liar? isincerely believe it is wally because he is bound and determined not to fix it. the high beams on this vehicle are what the low beams should be. this is a safety issue and a $53000 truck should have safe headlights. on low beam there is a black curtain only a few feet from the hood and going downhill that black is almost at the end of the hood. i have over the past 18 months talked to four gm reps at the customer service center, with the third one telling she would make arrangements to replace the light system with the 2016 system. she called the dealer setting it up and then never followed through.

The headlights are so poor that it feels dangerous to drive at night. on top of that, when it's raining at night, i try to avoid the roads.

The headlights on my 2014 gmc sierra 1500 headlights are unsafe at night on dim or high beam. cannot see close to the sides or distance. would be easy to hit a pedestrian. asked the dealer if there was a recall or if they could fix the problem and they said no there was nothing they could do. i have read many other complaints on line and doesn't seem to be anything being done about it. why isn't anything being done before people getting killed or injured..

Not bright enough. it is not safe to drive dark countryside roads. no side visibility at all. i almost hit a cow.

Head lights are substandard and unsafe on this vehicle. it is unsafe to drive faster than 40 mph on low beam and not much better on high beam. when turning 90 degrees you are turning in to the dark.

Headlights are extremely dim, even on the high-beam setting. makes it extremely dangerous to operate at night and i will not drive it at night unless it's an emergency due to not being able to see.

Vehicle will lose power and shut off while driving, while in reverse i have had the steering wheel ripped out of my hands. random error messages on dic, random starting issues. taken to shop multiple times, they cannot find an issue.

The headlights are a huge safety issue, they are very dangerous at night. you can not see sides or in front of you . i hit a deer standing n the middle of the road, did not see it till it was right in front of me. my wife has a 2006 tahoe and her headlights are much better than the one in a 2014. gmc needs to fix it before people start dying

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 gmc sierra 1500. the contact stated that the headlights provided minimum visibility at night. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where a defect was not determined the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 21,000. updated 05/17/17*lj the consumer stated the headlights were very dim. updated 10/11/2017*js

Headlights are dim and horrible. very dangerous to drive my truck at night. lighting is extremely sub standard compared to all of the other trucks on the market and roadways. this needs addressed asap before people get killed. gmc doesnt seem to care about these issues.

The projector beam headlights on my 2 year old gmc sierra are, and have been, noticeably dim to the point of being a safety concern. it's as if trying to drive at night while wearing dark sunglasses. in addition to being dim, there's also the problem of side illumination. i can see some of the road ahead, but can't see the ditches on either side of the road. i consider this lack of side illumination to also be a safety issue, especially when negotiating turns or curves. using high beams offers little, if any improvement. the high beams only seem to shine higher (tree top height), but offer no real increase in either side illumination or actual brightness. the "eye lids" lift, but poor illumination remains unchanged. about the only option is for me to drive with the fog lights on. using fog lights at least gives a bit more side illumination, but still does nothing to assist with "down the road" illumination. i've been surprised at such poor lighting being installed on an otherwise great truck. these projector beam headlights were supposedly offered as part of premium packages. if these headlights are gmc's best, i'm sure glad i didn't get the cheaper lights! my only hope is that gmc will offer some type of headlight upgrade, possibly led lights.

Poor illumination, after a few days the lights have been adjusted the light points very low that its almost imposible to see at night while driving at normal road conditions and with a good weather.

The high beam headlights, as installed from the factory and properly adjusted, are inadequate for driving on dark country roads at night, in the absence of ambient lighting from street and yard lights. the light is cast well down the road, but there is too little light spread to the shoulders of the road, making pedestrians and animals difficult to see if they are not directly in the roadway. i live in a rural area with many peach orchards and pastures, therefore there are often few, if any, street or yard lights to provide any ambient lighting. also, many of the roads in the area have neither painted lines nor reflectors to help mark the path of travel at night. if there are hills and curves, the light pattern and output of the factory installed lights on my 2014 gmc sierra make it difficult to distinguish unmarked pavement from the grass on the shoulders of the road. all of these shortcomings are magnified when roads are wet and/or it is raining or otherwise inclement weather. i approached my dealer here in spartanburg, sc, about a remedy for the inadequate headlights, but the representative was dismissive and did not follow-up.

Can not see at night, needs to be recalled

The head light on my $30.000 sierra truck can,t see at night! gm needs a recall

Poor lighting on headlights

Headlight performance during night time driving is poor and unsafe at highway speeds in rural areas.

2014 gmc sierra 1500. consumer writes in regards to vehicle headlights design problems. *smd the consumer stated he discovered the headlights only had one bulb, which meant the high and low beams had to be adjusted as one unit. he exited the vehicle and measured the distance from the vehicle to where the visibility ended. the distance was 130 feet on both sides of the road. also, on a turn of 90 or 120 degrees, there was no side lighting which meant he had to slow down to a crawl in order to make a turn. in addition, when going down hill, the visibility of the lights decreased to about 20-20 feet. the dealer raised the lights about factory specs. he could see a little better, but the high beams were 20-30 feet in the air and were useless. *jb ma 08/05/15 the consumer stated during inclement weather visibility decreases to 20-30 feet/40 feet max. updated 9/24/15*js

Head light don't offer enough lighting at night

Very dim headlights causing difficulty driving at night and in rainy weather. 2014 gmc sierra with 13000 miles.purchased truck in march of 2015 noticed lighting issue first time i drove at night

I traded a 2011 gmc sierra on this 2014 gmc sierra (sle / double cab / 4.3l v6), plus still have a 2012 gmc sierra, and the lights on these 2 when compared to the 2014 gmc were / are like night and day - the 2014 gmc sierra is positively dangerous to drive at night - lights are disgusting - high beam on 2014 gmc is worse than low beam on my earlier gmc sierra's. took copy of "carcomplaint.com" report on headlight problem to dealership, but they said gm has not provided them with any info' of "supposed" problem, nor can they offer a solution. have reported this problem 3 times - no action, an no concern either, in my opinion.

*tr

The headlights on this truck are horrible. i can barely see the road or sides of the road. at night cars behind/beside me flood out my lights. i have the interior lights turned completely down and still the lights are very weak and dangerous. *tr

I've had my 2014 gmc sierra for nearly a year now, first night i had it i couldn't believe how poor the light output was from the headlights. i've had numerous gmc sierra trucks over the years and this truck by far has the worse headlights i've ever had in a truck. there are a lot of people online complaining, i'm definitely not the only one upset with how poor these headlights are. there are a few guys in town with this same truck they all hate the headlights too. these headlights just seem very dim, they don't shine the ditches up very well, they don't shine ahead very far either. i have better luck running the headlights on low beam and fog lights on, it almost seems like less light on high beam so i rarely have them on high, i've had multiple occasions where i nearly hit a moose, these headlights are very dangerous i'm worried that one of these days i'm going to hit a moose or worse a person! i really hope somebody does something about these headlights gm didn't listen to anything i had to say. *tr

I almost hit a deer when the vehicle was new as i could not see it until it was next to the passenger door, standing still. i had the dealer adjust the lights three times and install the gmc update, on the computer. i now have a blob of white light fall on the center line and another blob in the center of the driving lane. there is no light illuminating far forward or to the sides as should be. i talked with the dealer and there are no further updates for now. i have since had several close calls. i have driven professionally in the past.

These are the worst headlights. i live in rural alabama and cant see edges of road or more than 50' ahead. cant change the bulb to improve it. very dangerous at night for me and anyone else on the road! *tr

clock and outside air temp readings are so small, you can't see them, without taking your eyes off the road, long enough to bend over close to the radio. this is as bad as someone using a cell phone to send and receive text. i have driven off the road twice, but have not crashed yet. my gm dealer says, the readings can not be made larger, and to be very careful.
