Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

Multiple incidents have occurred. the vehicle will be cruising at highway speeds, then lose all engine power and the car begins to shake violently. i need to put my hazards on and come to a complete stop wherever i am, including busy traffic. the car continues to shake while shifting into park. after in park, i turn the car off, wait 30 seconds, then start it again. the shaking ceases upon restarting, and will drive fine for 5-10 minutes before repeating the incident over again and losing all engine power. a ford dealership diagnosed the problem as a failed throttle body. the repair cost over $500. *tr

Car stalled while driving on the highway. the engine would restart but ran very rough. i was able to get off the highway. the other occasion was at an intersection. both times the car had to be towed to autonation in union city, georgia. the throttle body was replaced under warranty. *tr

Driving down a six lane highway at 50 mph, car suddenly shuts down, barely idling. was fortunate enough to get over to the side of the road where the car stalled. was towed to a shop where the problem was misdiagnosed as a bad battery. new battery put in and same problem happened 36 hours later. computer was checked this time and was giving a p2111 error code which is a stuck throttle body sensor. could have been a real problem if the event happened at interstate speed, or making a left turn in heavy traffic. internet is full of similar problems with this vehicle. *tr

When traveling down the road in typical conditions the power could cut out on the engine. electrical power would still be on but no power would go to the engine forcing me to pull off the road and restart. this has happened several times and caused a minor bump with a traffic barrel. ford lists this as service notice when it should be a recall, i could have been killed had i not had enough room to avoid the semi truck speeding behind me. *tr

I was driving on the highway when my car starting losing power. the little wrench light and check engine light came on. i was able to pull over to the side of the road and shut off the car. i restarted the car, but turned off the air conditioning. after driving another 7-8 miles, i turned on the air conditioning and the same thing happened. when i restarted the car, i turned off the air and it drove fine. i took it to a mechanic because the book that came with my vehicle said to have the diagnostics checked, but the mechanic said no code is showing up. *tr

This has happened twice. when i reach speeds around 45 and above, the car seems to stall and the throttle cuts out, leaving me without a way to accelerate. i have had to pull over on the side of busy highways, let my car rest for a little bit then start it back up. it seems reluctant to start. took it to local ford dealership and they concluded it was the throttle body and i would need it replaced. googled ford fusion throttle body and many others have had the same thing happen, including accidents cause by it. *tr

Car lost power while driving at 45 mph, after about 10 minutes of driving. it would not respond to accelerator pedal and the wrench light went on. i pulled off to side of road; car restarted after 2-3 tries; drove without incident for next 1500 miles. since then has stalled three times, usually within a few minutes of initial start driving at 30-40 mph. each time, restarts with one or two tries and runs ok, but feels sluggish. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated while driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the check engine light. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, and they claimed there was no defect. the approximate failure mileage was 53,000. updated 10/22/13*lj

My daughter owns a ford fusion 2010 and has had multiple incidences of throttle body failure. we have taken it to the dealer, who diagnosed it and ordered the part. the part is back ordered due to so many failures on several types of ford cars and trucks. a little research on the part of the nhtsa would show it is past time this part should have been recalled!!! losing acceleration in the middle of pulling into traffic whether in town or highway is exceptionally dangerous, the nhtsa and ford need to step up before deaths occur. *tr

Just adding to the list. twice in the past two weeks my husband has experienced the same issue as everyone else posting a safety complaint about their 2010 ford fusion. he found himself not able to accelerate while driving on the highway. the first time he brought the car into a ford dealership. they found no issue, and apparently are not aware of the overall issue. this morning (after the second occurrence) he brought the car into a non-dealership auto mechanic - no word from them yet. i am worried about his safety, and frustrated that ford has not issued a recall given how wide-spread and long-known this problem is. *tr

This has happened several times over the last few months and happened 3 times on 7/24/13 - i am in traffic on busy highway and the car just stalls. luckily i was able to pull over all 3 times turned it off and restarted. had i been doing the speed limit of 60 i for sure would have been involved in an accident with as much traffic that is on the 10. this is a very serious problem and ford needs to address before someone is killed. *tr

Throttle body shorted battery and caused engine to stall in traffic. when trying to restart, engine sped up fast became very dangerous. ford has these throttle bodys on back order... that's sad. pls recall asap before someone loses their life. *tr

Car shut down when i was on 288 running 70 had to pull over cut car off start it back up then it did it again 15 min later on 95 i bought a new throttle body installed it and now its doing fine. *tr

Car lost acceleration, power, there was shaking had to pull over turn car off and continue on. happened again on aug 8th, 2013. *tr

I was driving to work yesterday morning and almost got rear ended by a semi when my car lost power. after work i took my car to the mechanic and he verified that there is an issue with the throttle body. after finding this out i did some research online and found that this appears to be a very common problem. i have read countless pages of complaints on this particular problem happening to other people. without a doubt, i feel that there should definitely be a recall on this issue. i guess it takes someone to get killed before that will happen though. this is not the first time this has happened to me and probably won't be the last. i would hate to see someone get killed over this. it will bring a hefty lawsuit. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle became resistant to acceleration attempts over 40 mph. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where a diagnostic was performed and located the failure at the throttle body control. the dealer replaced the throttle body control and the vehicle was repaired. the failure and current mileage was 55,000.

Today i was driving through a residential neighborhood at about 20 mph. my car slowly started to lose power. i was able to pull off to the side of a road in a parking lot where the vehicle began to shake violently. i put the car in park and turned the car off immediately. upon restarting, i was able to begin to drive and the car drove for several miles as normal. then, the car seemed to lose power again, quicker this time, and shake violently. i was on a busy road with one lane of traffic and could very nearly have been rear ended. it appears to be the throttle body, as so many other reviewers have claimed. what is not understandable is that the part is back ordered. even though my husband can repair it himself, we'll have to wait for the part and wait to have a car back. as a full time teacher, i am not sure how ford has not recalled such a consistent issue that takes away from the reliability of their automobiles. i hope someone can address this issue immediately and place a recall on this part. i am so disappointed in ford products. *tr

While driving the gas pedal begins to shake and then the car shuts off completely. have read several reviews/complaints about it being the throttle body, and that's what it is. $800, and warranty is expired, but brought the car in previously to ford with the same issues, they couldn't find any problems then. don't feel i should pay for a mistake made by ford. *tr

Driver was driving 2010 ford fusion approximately 50 mph when the vehicle started to shake and decelerate. it felt like the vehicle was losing power. driver had to put hazard lights on and pull off the road. the vehicle was turned off and the driver was able to restart the vehicle and drive slowly to a convenience store where she was able to call to be towed to the nearest ford dealership. when the vehicle arrived at the ford dealership it was diagnosed as having a throttle body failure. the vehicle is currently still in the shop waiting for the throttle body assembly to be available to replace the faulty part. currently the driver is without the vehicle that is required for them to do their job. *tr

I was driving in windber, pa going around a sharp turn with a tri axle coal truck on my bumper, as i went to press the gas pedal the car made a pop noise. looked down at my dash and the wrench light came on right away, i could not get any gas to the engine, i tried to get off the road but there was not a shoulder on the highway.i immediately put my turn signal on and the car just coasted along the side until it came to a stop on the shoulder of the roadway on the curve, might i add. i turn my car off and called my husband told him he told me to call laurel ford and see if they could tow it for us. i left the car sit because i was going to a appointment in somerset i did not want to be late, when i returned from the appointment the car started right up no wrench light i drove to laurel ford, i went in talked to the service rep they looked over my car and advised me that the computer did not locate a problem, but they have found that the throttle body has been the problem with this model of car. he explained that the part was on national back order and was unsure when he could get the part. i drove the car home that day with no problem, i attempted to drive the car again to go to work on tueday 7 miles from home the car did the same thing went to give it gas and the car shut off i pulled to the side of the road and turned the engine off and it started back up no wrench light. went to work going home from work it did it again and not only the wrench light but the engine light came on as well. i got the car home called laurel ford and took the car to them for repair there is not part to be found its on national back order and its been two weeks i have called ford and have not given me a time or date of where the part is or if the part is available. i called ford service twice ...

Was driving approximately 45 mph car just went to idle throttle was unresponsive wrench light came on about got rear ended has done it several times since help. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the check engine warning light. the failure recurred twice. the contact was able to restart the engine and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 58,000.

Stopped at red light, light turns green i push the gas pedal and the car has no power- i moved to the side of the street and it crawled along an inch at a time until i could safely pull into a church yard and turn it off, i lifted the hood to check everything and decided to crank the car to see if i could hear anything and it ran fine and has been fine for the past three days. afraid to drive my car because of this. *tr

60 mph on highway. wrench light came on. lost power. coasted to side of road (luckily safely). turned car off. restarted after a few minutes. continued about 1/2 mile. happened again. did same thing. continued another 1/2 mile. did it again. engine shuttered this time. check engine light remains on. was able to restart vehicle and get home (approximately 2 miles). happened once shortly after used vehicle purchase in 2011 but never did again until now. internet search indicates defective throttle body part is cause. very unsafe particularly in highway driving when this happens! just purchased a second 2011 ford fusion se (2011) for our teenager. concerned about our child's safety. ford needs to issue a recall!. *tr

While driving down the highway during rush hour, the car shuddered and stalled, kept oscillating around 1000 rpm, would not accelerate. almost crashed trying to get to the shoulder. called dealership from side of the road, they said it's probably the throttle body. *tr

While accelerating, cruising or at idle, the engine stalls then dies. when restarting engine stumbles badly and dies. this happens in traffic, accelerating into intersections, at highway speeds, etc. mil is now on constantly. vehicle is completely unusable because it is past the warranty period. we will be replacing the throttle body at our own expense, but would like ford to reimburse us. *tr

I was driving to my friends and all of a sudden my car stalled on me. it wouldn't move when i pushed on the gas it just slowed down while my battery light wrench light and engine light came on. it was dead. i shut the car off and turned it back on and it was fine like nothing happened. less than a mile it did it again on a busy road. i was freaking out and worried about my life on the busy road. so i shut it off again and started and lucky i made to the ford service before it did it again and decided to have them check it out. the throttle body gad to be replaced and was the reason why my car was acting up. i thank god that i wasn't on the freeway around rush hour time. *tr

On more that one recent occasion while driving on local roads, the car's engine would start idling poorly, and the car would start coasting and not responding to the gas pedal. i would have to pull over, turn the car off, wait 30 seconds and restart the car. i took the car to my local ford dealer for repair on 7/24/13, and they replaced the throttle body to rectify this issue. from searching online, i found that this issue is very common, as many other ford fusion owners experienced this issue at around the 30-35k mile mark of ownership. from the invoice given to me by the dealer after the service, the error code with the throttle body was p2111, which is described at the following web page: http://www.ncconsumer.org/news%20articles/nccc%20petitions%20nhtsa%20for%20defect%20investigation%20into%20ford%20escape%20vehicles.html i was on a local road with no other cars around, but others described having the engine issue while driving at normal speeds on highways. this is a very dangerous position to be in, and if this is a common issue with ford vehicles, then it's highly possible someone could get seriously hurt or killed if the throttle body starts malfunctioning at the wrong place/time. thanks for your time, and please feel free to contact me if you need any further information. Four incidences since onset. when accelerating, at approximately 25 mph, the car appears to stall. a "wrench" (maintenance) light comes on. then, when pushing gas pedal, it appears as if the car does not receive fuel. pull to the side of the road, turn off and restart car and proceeds normally. *tr

I was driving down my local street at approx 25 mph. the engine lost power and was stuck in a rough idle. this has happened at least 6 times now. this is a very dangerous situation that is known to ford (faulty throttle body). someone is going to die soon or get hurt in an accident if the car loses power like this. there are hundreds of complaints on the internet about this known problem. ford should do a recall now! *tr

Vehicle keeps shutting off while driving. first happened on july 18th, second july 19th. just started again on july 31 & continues. i was told its my throttle. *tr

I was driving down a side street going about 25 mph when my car lost power, when i pressed the gas the car shook and stalled out. i restarted the car and managed to pull off to the side of the street before it stalled out again. the engine light and the wrench light were on when this happened. i had the car towed to the local ford dealership where they immediately told me "it's probably the throttle body" they told me the repairs could take months because the parts are on back order because it is a common problem with the ford fusion. previous to this incident my car had been having problems accelerating improperly and would stall out while stopped. this started happening about 2 months before my car needed to be towed to the dealership. *tr

Throttle body is defective on vehicle. causes vehicle to not get any gas and shuts down to an idle with the wrench light illuminating. many people have this known issue. driving in dallas i found this to be very unsafe with so much traffic. could have been seriously injured as the vehicle would not move. *tr

This has happened on many occasions, from driving in stop and go traffic to driving on a highway. after driving the vehicle for some time, a wrench light comes on on the dashboard, there is no fuel going to the car and when i pull to the side, the car stutters like it wants to go and then stops again. after turning the car off and starting it again, the car drives like nothing ever happened. i have gone online and there are a lot of people who were complaining about the same thing and ford has not recalled the part. i guess someone has to die in an accident for them to take action. *tr

I was driving down a highway when the engine suddenly lost power without warning. i quickly went from 70 mph to 50 mph and continued to slow. the vehicle engine light came on the instrument panel and my rpms dropped below 500. i was able to safely pull over to the shoulder. i turned the car off, waited a few minutes, and started it. the car started and idled just fine. i revved the engine a few times. rpms stayed in the normal range. i put the car in gear and started to move. immediately the engine light came back on and the rpms dropped again. i had the car towed to a repair shop where they informed me the throttle body had failed and it required replacement. the tow and repairs cost me over $500. *tr

Driving about 40 mph. car jerked then shut off. brought it to a mechanic and was told it was the full body throttle. *tr

The car lost power suddenly. we had to pull over, turn off the car and turn it back on. we had to leave the air conditioner off. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate and began to shake. after shutting the engine off and restarting the vehicle, the contact was able to drive without failure for a short time before the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where the technician stated that the throttle body would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 64,000. *tr

Throttle body quit working while driving at 65 mph. engine dropped to idle and would not respond to accelerator pedal. wrench light came on at instrument panel. coasted across 5 lanes of high speed traffic to reach the road shoulder. after turning off the car and turning it back on the throttle started working again. dealer says that there is a nationwide back order for the replacement throttle body to fix this problem but there is no recall active. *tr

While driving on city streets the gas pedal stopped responding. the car slowed and the engine surged. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle jerked, hesitated, and made a loud noise while driving 15 mph and making a turn. the wrench light illuminated after the failure occurred. the vehicle began to function normally after it was restarted. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and a diagnostic test was performed. the failure was located within the throttle body and the front axle, needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure and current mileage was 63,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis, who stated that the throttle body would have to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,036. *tr

I was driving my 2010 ford fusion on highway 31, it was very cloudy and hard rain was coming down fast. i reached 40 miles an hour after almost pushing my foot so hard on the peddle. all the sudden the car started losing power, slowly going down. wrench light came on, vehicle started shaking, and right at the best time i hit the brake and the car turned off, it would not turn back on. i had to have my vehicle towed to the ford dealership. my vehicle has been in the shop a total of 4 times and this problem is still not fixed, i am so uneasy when driving my car, hoping it will not turn off and leave me stranded. i am very scared to drive my vehicle, it is the only way of transportation for me. i am very upset about everything and it still is not fixed. terrible vehicle, terrible service from the ford service people. totally devastated that i make a car payment on my vehicle which is covered under warranty and i am in harm. *tr

When exiting off of the expressway, i lost the ability to accelerate. coasted to the side of the road, put in park, and as i was shutting if off it shook/rattled and the wrench light came on. waited a few minutes and restarted and it was fine. continued to drive and on august 2, as i was driving on the expressway again (traveling approx. 70 mph) i again lost the ability to accelerate, however, this time i didn't stop or slow down before hand. again i coasted to the side of the road, shut down (still got the rattle and wrench light) and restarted. when i took it to the dealership, they stated the throttle body needed to be replaced. the car is only three years old! this is very dangerous thing to happen especially on the expressway since you can possibly be rear ended in addition to not having the ability to pull over. i would hope that this issue will be looked into and corrected to the best of ford's ability before something worse happens because of this malfunction. *tr

Went to start car in driveway and it started in limp mode. let it sit overnight and it started fine and ran okay for another 9 days. then while driving down rural highway at 60 mph it went into limp mode again. pulled over, waited, restarted, hoping to get to the next city. however, after another 7 or 8 miles, it went into limp mode again and i pulled off into a parking lot. had it towed back to deal. ford service told me this was the third instance they had in the last week or two, that ford is not producing these parts (for a known defect!), and that it took them eight days to get the last part. besides this being a huge safety issue, it is a major inconvenience that parts are unavailable as well. ford needs to rectify this problem asap before someone is killed! my father retired from ford and we have never driven any other kind of vehicle but this situation is making me re-evaluate my loyalty to ford products. *tr

After stopping at bank, car went into creep mode after less than a block. restarted and drove home. nine days later the same thing occurred. drove to mechanic next day ok. needs throttle body for $440.00. ford apparently not willing to fix although they've had this problem for years. replaced ignition coil a few weeks earlier for $330.00. same mo with ford. *tr

I had just left the dealership after getting an oil change. after driving less than 1 mile the wrench light came on and my car decelerated. i immediately went back to the dealership. they ran a test and said that it passed, but it my be the throttle body. they told me to try again and if i have problems to call. i left again and the same thing happened. i called the service associate and they had me bring it back. the throttle body was replaced. *tr

I was driving on the highway and my car came to a sudden stop. it was sudden enough where my head smacked the steering wheel. i later came to find out that it was a bad throttle body on the car. my car has been in a shop for 2 weeks now and the mechanics are telling me that ford is having massive issues with the part and its on a national back order for up to 6 weeks. ford executives should be arrested for sweeping this under the rug and not addressing the issue. this almost cause a massive accident. *tr

While driving my car lost all acceleration. the wrench light came on and the check engine light came on. i had to quickly pull over to avoid traffic coming up from behind me. i sat on the side of the road turned the car off and waited a couple of minutes before turning it back on. this reset the gauges and i could begin driving home (less than a mile away). on the way home it happened again. called my ford dealership, veterans ford in tampa, fl. i spoke with a service advisor named [xxx], who through my description of the symptoms said that it is the throttle body. they had just fixed three fusions that very day with the same problem. he said it is a know issue with the 2010 fusion model and they fix many of these. seems to me that ford should realize their is a wide spread issue with this part and it is unsafe. this should be a recalled part in my opinion as it is now going to cost me between 400-700 dollars to repair. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

I own a ford fusion 2010. the car ran great until it just unexpectedly stop working while i was driving on i-95 with my son [xxx]. i was driving at 60 mph when the car just stop accelerating when i hit the gas. i instinctively hit my flashers on and started honking my horn to alert other cars because there was no immediate shoulder to pull onto. after about 100 yards of driving at about 5 mph i finally pulled over onto the shoulder. the car started shaking uncontrollably when i stopped. i turned the car off in order to stop the shaking. the experience was terrifying enough that i went home to do research. the information i found floored me. there are literally hundreds on ford fusion 2010 owners that have had the same problem. the car just abruptly shuts down because of a defective part. the part is the throttle body. it is mind boggling that ford has not recalled this car. they are putting money ahead of the safety of their customers. i am appalled that nothing has been done. i demand that ford makes this right before somebody gets seriously hurt. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
