Recently reported VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL problems on 2010 Ford Fusion

Car suddenly lost power at highway speed, had to pull over, rough idling; amber wrench lit up. car towed to dealership. could not find problem but sounds like throttle body failure as described over internet and by another dealership's service manager. advised to see if occurs again. *tr

Driving on the highway going approximately 70 mph when my car acceleration seize to accelerated. the wrench light and check engine light came on. i coasted to the shoulder of the highway were i put my hazards on. i shut the car off waited 5 minutes then started back up. i turned around drove home. this happen two times before on the same day. i read a forum of other fusions owners who this happen to. they all said it was the full throttle body. i replaced the part and not had a problem since. *tr

I was driving at 45 mph and the car jolted then the wrench symbol came on the dash. the car than began to slow and the rpm would not go above 1000. i pulled over and the car was idling very badly. i turned the car off waited a few minutes then turned it back on and it was fine. my husband has a code reader and when we hooked it up and there were no codes. i started looking on the internet and found a lot of complaints regarding the throttle body and that ford is under investigation for this. *tr

Friday august 9, 2013 turning right on green light and lost all forward power, but engine did not stall car would move very slowly on engine idle. turned key off then car started back up ran ok. sunday august 11, 2013 driving in traffic a 45mph lost all forward power was able to stop at the side of the road without being rear ended in traffic. monday august 12, 2013 turning left out of driveway into traffic lost all forward power was able to get to curb before being t-boned in traffic. on monday august 12, 2013 had throttle body assembly replaced at a cost of $488.56. $324.34 for a part that should last longer then 45,000 miles. *tr

Car loses power and stalls at city or highway speeds (have to pull over). car shuts down when idling. ford was contacted by our service center and we're told we need a new throttle body, but they are on back-order. there are at least 5000 orders ahead of us. service person said he is not aware of a recall for this problem. car was purchased new. *tr

Was going 60 in the middle of rush hour and car just went to nothing in seconds. had my 14 month old son with me. scared me. car was puttering wouldn't go over 10 miles an hour. didn't know i could shut it off and back on. found out later by doing research it could be the throttle body. took to shop and they said that is what it is. costing me 600 dollars to fix and they consider it a hazard. noticed after doing research that this is happening on alot of 2010 - 2012 ford fusions. not sure why a recall hasn't been done. i would like my money back if there is was or gonna be one.. *tr

After accelerating to approximately 55 mph, leaving off the accelerator, engine lost power. had to pull off the road. engine was at slow rough idle. after shutting engine off and turning back on, check engine light came on. *tr

I was traveling on the interstate at highway speed. traffic had slowed alittle so i began to slow as well. when i pressed the accelerator nothing happened. the wrench light came on the dash. i had no control over the acceleration of the car. after almost being taken out be a semi i was able to get the car off to the side of the interstate. the car was idling very rough. i shut the car off and waited a few seconds. i restarted the car and the light was off. i was able to drive home with no more problems. seems that ford has a major issue. i thing they should be made to recall these cars before someone gets killed. *tr

After accelerating to approximately 55 mph, leaving off accelerator, engine lost power. had to pull off the road. engine was at a rough idle. after shutting engine off and re-starting check engine light came on. would have been dangerous in traffic. *tr

Call stalled in the middle of driving 2 xs in the worst part of the city. would restart but stall after a few more minutes of driving...had to coast into parking lot and get towed to downtown ford in canton ohio to be repaired. downtown ford said throttle body...over $600 to repair on a vehicle with only 39000 miles. *tr

Was driving on a state road going approximately 40-45 mph. began to accelerate to go up an incline and then engine sputtered and then shut off. same thing happened a week later going about 5-10 mph while accelerating from a stop sign on a residential street. took the car to the dealership and the problem was a bad throttle body which was replaced. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle stalled as the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 60,000.

For the last couple of weeks i have been having an issue with my 3 year old ford fusion (2010) started stalling out at random times for no apparent reason. when this happened the first time i called my local dealer and asked him what may be wrong with my vehicle and he said that there was a common issue with the throttle body, which causes the car to stall occasionally and that it would cost me around $350 for the part alone. i believe this to a major safety problem because one time this happened to me i was traveling on the highway at 60mph with a semi-truck behind me and the trucker came very close to hitting me. i also had this happen to me at an intersection while taking off from a red light, turning left. i have done some online research about this issue and it does seem to be a problem amongst many ford fusion owners in cars that are only 2 or 3 years old. if this is such a common occurrence that ford dealers know that this issue exists then i ask why hasn't this part been recalled? *tr

I was driving on the highway at about 70 mph. the car suddenly shut down and started coasting. pressing the gas pedal did nothing. the throttle control/transmission warning light came on. i coasted off of the highway and turned off my car. i turned the car back on, warning light was gone, car drove fine the rest of the way to my destination. next morning the exact same thing happened. stopped at an auto repair shop. they could not diagnose the problem. got back on the highway and made it to my destination without incident. *tr

My 2010 ford fusion has stalled several times while driving and while attempting to accelerate from a stopped position. several times it has almost caused me to stall in the middle of a busy intersection when turning left, stop while driving on a busy freeway, and quickly accelerate when my foot has been on the brake peddle. *tr

We just bought the car the day before and as my son backed it out of the driveway the car lost power. after turning the engine off and on again he was able to drive the car normally. the car was driven without any problems for about two weeks. but after about two weeks, the car was being driven at about 40mph when it suddenly lost power. after coasting to the side of the road and turning the engine off and on again it briefly regained power but the car went only about 100ft before losing power again. after letting the car sit for 20 minutes we were able to start it and drive the remaining half mile home. we had dismissed the first incident as possibly being a mistake on the part of my son driving an unfamiliar vehicle and perhaps not shifting properly when backing out of the driveway. but the second incident was clearly an indication of a failure on the part of the vehicle. it was not safe to drive. although the problem was intermittent, a loss in power could happen at any time and could potentially leave us helpless without power in a dangerous situation. we had the car towed to a ford dealer who determined that the problem was a bad throttle body. they replaced it at a cost to us of $537. a throttle body that fails at less than 100,000 miles is defective and should be recalled because of the safety issue. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph the vehicle would not accelerate. after merging to the shoulder of the road and shutting the engine off the contact restarted the vehicle and the failure shortly recurred. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician stated the throttle control module had to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired because the part was unavailable. the approximate failure mileage was 62,000. *tr

Car suddenly lost power and sputtered and the wrench light came on. happened 3-4 more times, then took to a ford dealer and it was determined to be the throttle body and was notified the part was on backorder due to many cars having the same issue. notified ford with no results.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled as the wrench warning icon illuminated. the contact merged to the shoulder of the road and was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 56,000.

I was driving down the interstate at approx 60 when all of a sudden the car was running but when i pushed on the gas nothing happened... and the wrench on the dashboard came on.... the car coasted to a stop finally... i then shut off the car and restarted it.. and no prob then on.. so far... *tr

I was driving car three different time when the transmission shifts strangely and loses power then idles erratically and cannot accelerate, car displays error code on dash. i turn off car and restart and code goes away and runs good. *tr

Driving about 35 miles an hour when the car makes a muffled clunking noise and the speedometer starts going towards 0. i pull over, turn off the car turn it back on and it runs fine for about 5 miles and does it again, this time the noise is louder, the engine light comes on and i can smell burning. i was able to pull into a parking lot, called a tow truck and had it towed to the dealership. i've just been told it is the throttle body and it will be about $600 to repair it. my warranty expired 34 days ago. *tr

The car suddenly stopped accelerating and the engine would only produce about 800 rpm. i shut the car off and restarted it and the problem repeated the next day at a lower speed (30 mph). the dealer diagnosed it and said it due to a defective throttle position sensor which would cost $475 and is not covered under any warranty. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was stopped and restarted several minutes later and operated as designed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis but no cause for the failure was found. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the electric throttle body would need to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure and current mileage was 45,000. updated 10/22/13 *cn

Car died at cruising speeds and almost caused an accident. i feel it is dangerous for me to continue driving this vehicle even though it is almost new. i was told this is the throttle body? *tr

I was traveling north on i-75 at about 65-70 mph, when all of a sudden i lose power, as though the car's not getting any gas. nothing happened when i tried to continue accelerating. i coasted it off the interstate, i was in the far right hand lane, so i was able to do this rather easily. when the car stopped, it began shuddering and shaking, idling very rough. the little wrench light came on. when i got my wits back as i was in a panic being 156 miles away from home, and still 800 miles away from my destination, i tried to continue driving because i couldn't tell where i was at. the car crept along extremely slow, but i was able to get close enough to read the sign, i was half a mile from the altoona rd emerson exit 283. i turned the car off to call someone. after a few minutes of multiple dropped calls, i tried to start the car, and it did. i was able to drive it to the exit and as i was approaching the stop sign at the end of the off ramp, it stalled. i tried again and was able to get it into love's truck stop. i ended up having it towed 156 miles back home. it's sitting in my yard, i haven't done anything yet with it, i'm too disgusted as i just bought it a month ago, and have been reading numerous incidents just like mine. and where ford doesn't seem to care enough about the people buying their product. i'm paying a lot of money for a car that i no longer trust. my husband took it to one of those auto stores no code could be read. i can say with certainty that had i been further up in one of the bigger cities in heavier traffic and out in the center lanes, it would not have been good. it seems to me, that it's a no brainer, a recall verses a criminal negligent suit. because it's only a matter of time.. *tr

I was driving home at a speed of 70 from work on the freeway when the car powered down all of a sudden. a wrench light turned on and the accelerator pedal did not work i had to pull to the side of the freeway when i stopped my car the car felt as if it was trembling so i turned it off for a few seconds then turned it back on surprisingly the wrench light turned off and the car worked fine again. i kept driving carefully at a speed of 60 now and 20 miles later it stalled again. my car at the moment is at 43,000 miles i bought it new in june 2010. i took it to o'reillys so they can troubleshoot and find out what was wrong with my car and they said it was the throttle body. i continued to call a ford dealership since i still have powertrain warranty which covers the engine and transmission but unfortunately the sales rep. said it did not cover the throttle body. at the dealership to fix this problem will cost me $93.00 to find the problem, $150.00 for the service and $400.00 for the part. i am a nmsu student living in texas and drive 30 miles everyday to school and sadly cannot afford this kind of expense. i'm afraid to keep driving it causing to get rear ended while the car stalls or even worst causing a car incident leaving injuries. *tr

When leaving home to go to the store, accelerator peddle stopped responding shortly after shifting into drive after leaving the driveway. the engine idled very roughly, so i shifted into neutral and pulled over. i put the transmission into park, turned off the ignition and then restarted the engine. it idled fine, so i continued on my trip. shortly after, stopping at a stop sign, the same thing happened when pulling away from the stop. i was turning left, so i had to immediately turn right and pull over to avoid an accident. restarted engine and continued to my destination. the same behavior occurred again on y way back home when starting another left turn. *tr

While driving on the highway at 60 , in a section of highway with no breakdown lane and multiple highways merging together, the car suddenly lost all throttle power and wrench light went on. coasted to side of road barely being missed by several other vehicles and trucks. i shut car off and started again and was ok and able to get off highway. once off highway car kept loosing throttle power every mile until i got it to the dealership. dealership says this is an issue with 2010 fusions and that part is not available until end of october! (already had throttle body and plate cleaned a few weeks ago when it happened on a cold start and code came up p2111 throttle actuator control stuck open. car was fine until now.) *tr

I was traveling on the hwy going home. the little wrench light came on the dashboard without warning or any kind of notice and i could not accelerate at all. when i tried to press the gas pedal it would not do anything at all. i managed to pull over to the median. i tried shutting off the vehicle and then restarting it. this solved the problem temporarily. this happened to me three times the rest of my way home. without warning the light comes on and you have no acceleration. i'm being told it could be the throttle body. *tr

Driving along fine and then suddenly no throttle at all. had to pull off the road. car still idling rough. had to shut off and restart then it was ok. has happened 10 times know on highway and on secondary roads. very dangerous situation. *tr

I was driving my morning commute doing about 65 mph on the interstate when there was a clunking type noise from the engine and then the car just would not accelerate. i was able to pull over to the shoulder, put it in park and turned it off. i then restarted the car and it drove just fine. i took it to the dealership that morning and after having the vehicle all day i was told they could not find anything wrong and just reset the computer because they said there was probably a malfunction with the computer that sent a signal to the engine which caused this to happen. that cost me $103 to just reset the computer. then 4 days later it happens to me again while driving about 60 mph on a highway. i did the same thing by putting it in park, shutting if off and then restarting it. at that point i decided to drop it off at the dealership for them to check the next morning beings it was after hours and they obviously did not fix the problem the first time. on the way to dropping it off at the dealership it happened again while getting on the interstate. i guess we will have to wait and see what lame excuse they come up with this time. *tr

On 8/2/2013, i was driving on i-68w near rocky gap, md. while driving down the mountain, the car's rpms jumped up to 4000 rpms from its normal 2000 rpms. i tried applying the brakes and pumping the gas to try to get the car to operate normally. after 30 or 40 seconds, the car returned to 2000 rpms. this repeated a couple times over the next few minutes. eventually, i was going up a mountain, when the car's rpms dropped to 1000. the car decelerated and i was able to pull safely over to the shoulder. the amber wrench symbol was lit. i let the car sit for a few minutes then started it back up again. at this point, the car worked normally but acceleration was somewhat sluggish. when i returned home, i checked to see if any vehicle error code were present. none were. initially, i thought the car wasn't used to the mountain driving. a few days later, i was driving along md-100w (a very flat road) and then pulled into a local shopping center. while driving through the parking lot, the car lost power. i immediately hooked up a code reader and got a p2112. i googled this error code and it seems to be a very common problem with ford fusions. if this lose of power occurred at the wrong time, it could easily cause a bad accident. *tr

The first incident i was driving down the highway doing 55 mph and my car shut off. i was able o start the car again and get out of the road. i replaced the battery since later that day my card wouldn't turn on. *tr the second incident i was headed to the airport on my morning commute; i came to a stop sign and the car accelerated and the engine began to rev very loudly then i my car stalled out. i have my car in the shop and they advised that i have a bad throttle body and it will require replacement, the cost is $345.00 for the part and $190.00 for the labor. all while i am still paying on the loan. *tr

Throttle body faults w/out warning (ford part 9e926). when driving at highway speed the engine light (wrench) appeared and the car abruptly lost acceleration decreasing immediately from 70 mph to approx 10 mph in high speed interstate traffic. engine idle bounced between 1.5 and 3.5 rpm causing the car to jerk and feel like it was going to stall. i was driving with my 5 year old son and was almost rear ended and nearly struck several times by other cars on the interstate still traveling at a high rate of speed while i had to switch lanes limping at 10mph. i was able to restart the car and clear the engine error after i reached the should and proceed. however this has continued to occur and even when the car is running without the engine light the rpm bounces around and the engine will not idle properly. the second time this happened i was in the middle of a busy intersection and lost thrust stalling and blocking oncoming traffic. in the last month i would estimate this has occurred 3-4 times per week during normal driving. i contacted ford and was informed there was no recall however the part is on indefinite back-order and unavailable to me for repair. it may be several weeks before i can even obtain the part. i am forced to drive this car not knowing when it's going to shut down again and hoping that i am not involved in an accident while i wait for the part. this is entirely unacceptable. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle stalled. the contact also mentioned that the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 29,000.

We were driving down a busy road when we suddenly lost acceleration and could not move to safety. the wrench light came on and we had to get towed. we later found out that it was the throttle body, which was a common, known problem with this particular model. *tr

While on highway the vehicle stuttered, lost all throttle power (no acceleration) and the wrench light came on. had to pull over to the nearest shoulder while losing speed. once stopped the car jittered and tugged and continued to do so even while in park! after turning the vehicle off and then waiting a while, it started up without the issue and without the wrench light on. after taking it to the ford dealership they told us it was the throttle body and that we would have to wait until it was ordered because it was backordered and also they said we would not be covered for this under warranty. i suspect they know of their faulty products and had the audacity to charge so much to get it fixed. this is truly a safety hazard. *tr

I was driving on the freeway and the car jerked i tried to give it gas and it wouldn't go anywhere had to pull over on the side of highway and turned the car off and it worked fine i hooked a code scanner and trouble code p2111 popped up throttle body stuck open.. *tr

I was traveling on roadway at approximately 35 mph when throttle suddenly stopped responding. i pressed the accelerator repeatedly but engine appeared to stay at idle and vehicle slowed to a stop. a wrench symbol lit up on dashboard. shut vehicle off and restarted and engine began running normally. fortunately there were no vehicles behind me or intersecting with me which i would have had to avoid. *tr

Was traveling at approximately 55mph when the car lost all propulsion. i was able to get to the shoulder, shut it down, and start back up after about a minute. this occurred 3 times on a 25 mile drive. appears to be a faulty throttle body based on the codes being thrown off. the car only has 40,000 miles and based on multiple user boards this is a problem ford is aware of. unacceptable for such a key part to fail so early in its like. if i was stuck in the left lane this could have resulted in a very dangerous situation. *tr

The car lost throttle response while driving on the highway. the car then started idling very rough. turned the car off then on again and it was fine until i pulled back onto the highway and it lost power again. i turned the car off for approx 30 min. turned it back on then drove to an auto zone and got a p2111 error code which stated that the throttle body was stuck open or closed. took it to the dealership the next morning and they stated that it was the throttle body and estimated cost to replace was $400. after researching this appears to be a common problem with the fusion. *tr

I was driving along the tollway and had to slow down due to congestion. my car made a lunge, like a hard downshift and was left with no response from the engine. the engine was running as indicated by the tachometer and power steering, however i was not able to accelerate. after pulling over to the side of the road, nearly being rear ended by oncoming traffic, i turned on the flashers and shut the engine off. i let the car set for about 30 seconds before restarting. upon restart the car ran fine as though nothing had happened. i had a second occurrence just today (8/1/2013). i now have an engine light and have read the code - p2112. the dealership/service department that i called mentioned that this is a common issue with the ford fusion. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while traveling approximately 45 mph, the mil warning light illuminated as the vehicle lost acceleration power. the vehicle stalled moments later. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the throttle body had failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000.

Traveling down the highway at 70mph using cruise control, when the wrench symbol appeared on the dial and the car slowed way down and would not accelerate. we were able to pull to the side of the road, turned off the engine, waited a few minutes to restart and were able to drive away at normal speeds. this happened two more times within the 2 hour trip. we scheduled an appointment with the dealership and were told the problem was the throttle body and that it had to be replaced, but there were no parts available in the entire country and the part was on back order until perhaps 2 months. we were told this is a fairly common problem, but there was no recall forthcoming. i believe this is potentially a life-threatening problem that should be addressed by the company. i'm getting my car back from the dealership because i need transportation and have not been offered a loaner for the duration of the time it will take to get the new part. i will be living in constant fear that the problem will recur and i could be left stranded on the side of the road at some point when the car will not reset. *tr

While driving on the freeway, my car stopped accelerating and started to slow down naturally (almost like i had moved it into neutral). pressing the accelerator did nothing, and all my electronics stayed on. the car did not shutter or shake, just a natural slowdown. luckily i was able to change lanes quickly on the freeway and pull over. i stopped my car and restarted it and everything worked as normal. this happened 3 more times that day. i have taken it into the dealership today, but have noticed all the claims over the mast 2 months in regard to this issue. i called ford and there is no recall yet. i await a call from the ford dealership but expect it to be the throttle body that needs to be replaced. *tr

Driving ~40 mph, took foot off accelerator, wrench indicator light turned on, could no longer accelerate, had to roll onto breakdown lane. turned engine off, could not start car 1st attempt. car started on 2nd attempt, and the light went off. has occurred 4 times now, 3 times at speeds of ~40 mph and one time while slowing down for a traffic light. very scary for the young drivers in my family. *tr

The car has died unexpectedly. the wrench and engine light will go on, it did it once on july 27, aug. 24 and 25 and on sept 4, it died twice on the freeway in rush hour traffic. the ford service dept. diagnosed it as a "faltering throttle box". there is a wait of a month for these. *jb

I have an 2010 ford fusion se i brought the car not even a year ago dec 2012. yesterday while driving down the highway my car lost all power gas peddle did not respond check engine light came on and wrench light. i cut the car off started it back up hard start let it sit ran fine with no problem all lights at that point was out tried to take off again same issue. i don't know what's going on with it but i have been calling ford about lost of power for like 4months now they always had an excuse can somebody please help me. *tr

While driving on i-85 south approximately 50-60 mph in moderately heavy traffic, between exits 27 and 26, the car sounded like it dropped out of gear while accelerating. i was able to merge to the shoulder of the highway. the car continued decelerating and the "wrench light" appeared. the car would not accelerate at all. when stopped (at the ramp for exit 26), the car rattled and idled very hard and was shaking. the battery light appeared, then the oil lamp appeared and the car shut off completely. i was towed an hour later to keith hawthorne ford in belmont. on monday, july 29, 2013, the service manager, stated that the throttle body had failed; when they hooked-up the car to the testing machine, it did not show any codes. they replaced the failed throttle body, i paid for repairs and have the failed throttle body in my possession. *tr
