I have filed one report already about the brakes. wanted to inform you that the brakes are currently out as described in the recall letter. we have zero brakes and had to use the emergency brake to be able to slow down. took to the dealership, they havent looked at it bc there is no replacement part which leaves us in limbo. we found the brakes we not working while driving and trying to slow down. pedal went to the floor did not slow the car down without using the e-brake. there was no warning.
Received recall on abs system, valve sticking open. a couple of days later the car was in an accident, brakes locked up and abc did not seem to function. now brakes have a lot of travel and unsure if car is safe to drive. ford said they will not have the parts until end of first quarter. * (recall related incident) ts
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard which extended the braking distance. the contact stated that there were no warning lights illuminated during the failure. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure or retrieve a fault code for the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure was intermittent. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic). neither the ford dealer nor the manufacturer was contacted nor notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
I received a recall notice from ford (#19s54 / nhtsa #19v-904) regarding the hydraulic control unit / anti-lock braking system. after an anti-lock brake incident, the brake pedal requires additional distance to start braking and it takes longer to stop. this has already happened twice in the past, and i am currently experiencing the issue after the abs activated while trying to stop on ice. previously i took my car to a mechanic who was able to temporarily restore full brake function, but this time that temporary fix didn't work. i live in wisconsin (winter time) and it is unsafe to drive this car with the limited brake function, especially if i need to stop quickly to avoid an accident. i've been trying to work with ford via their customer care line call center outside of the u.s., but they have been unhelpful as the recall is in the "advance notice period". the representative said i needed to have a ford dealer diagnose the issue to ensure it was related to the recall. i did this and the dealer confirmed that it matched the recall. they contacted ford corporate to determine the next action, and ford stated that the fix and parts for it are unavailable until late 1st quarter 2020. ford suggested that the dealer complete an advanced diagnosis process to determine the issue, at a cost of $300 to me. i am unwilling to do this, as there is no step towards fixing this after spending the $300, and ford may not reimburse this cost. the dealer cannot help, unless i choose to spend my own money and hope that ford will reimburse me for the costs. ford call center managers have been unwilling to help as well. i have now been without a car for 2 weeks, and it appears i may be until march. this is unacceptable, and ford's unwillingness to act on this safety issue is appalling. is there anything that can be done to help get my car safely back on the road sooner?
Extended brake pedal travel
The brake pedal has to be pressed all the way to the floor to stop. this happens on and off without warning. it has happened several times. we received a recall notice. no part available to replace it. called dealership and they advised us to call ford customer care to see if since we are experiencing the described recall issue they may put us in a rental. called and spoke to a rep several days in a row. asked for a supervisor to call us back and they say they will but dont. recall says it raises risk of accident. since the part in the recall sticks without notice we are concerned putting our family in it. however it is our vehicle of transportation. we are experiencing the described issue that is stated in the recall. the brakes work fine one day and the next they dont. we dont know until the pedal goes to the floor. thats alarming. this happens at any time and any where without warning.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving the brake pedal went all the way to the floor to stop the vehicle. the vehicle went to an independent mechanic who determined there was air in the abs system and bled the air out. the issue recurred again with another vehicle stopping suddenly in front and the contact's brake pedal again going all the way to the floor and a rear end collision happening. the other vehicle's passenger was injured and transported to the emergency room by ambulance. a police report was filed. the vehicle will probably be totaled and the driver's air bag did deploy properly. almost all of the damage was to the front end of the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to a body shop. the dealer and the manufacturer had not been contacted yet. the independent mechanic reviewed the repairs and verified the repairs were done properly. the contact had researched the internet and found that there were a number of complaints about the abs system with the hydraulic control unit malfunctioning by not providing an immediate stop. the vin tool found a nhtsa recall number: awaiting (brakes) the failure mileage 129,400. *dt*dtj*jb*dt*jb*dt*dt *tr
On december 27th 2019. my daughter slide into the back of another car and she complained the breaks were taking to long to come to a complete stop. the car was totaled and on january 23rd, 2020 we received safety recall notice 19s54/nhtsa recall 19v-904. had we received this notice before 12/27/19 we believe repairs would have prevented the accident and the car would not have been sold for parts.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed but went to the floorboard. the contact stated that the braking distance was extended due to the failure. the vehicle was taken to epic ford located at 5200 evergreen way, everett, washington 98203, (425)-353-7171 to be inspected. the contact was informed that the vehicle operated as intended. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 80,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. while depressing the brake pedal, the pedal traveled to the floorboard and caused the braking distance to be extended. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake system was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. interstate ford (125 alexandersville rd, miamisburg, oh) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v904000 (brake system), but the part was not available. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. the failure mileage was 83,000.
Brakes wouldn't work causing 2000 in bodily damage to another vehicle, as well as damage to my 2008 ford fusion . the ford fusion was traveling at a rate of less than 5 miles an hour and the vehicle that was hit was stopped at a red light . i paid out of pocket. in the seven to eight years i have owned this vehicle i've had two recalls . the first was the airbag. that took ford years to replace after the initial letter went out 2015. just this past summer of 2019, they finally replaced it. the brakes have always been spongy , also the acceleration has stuck twice , with the pedal going all the way to the floor, i was able to get it to pop out but it was very scary . i would not recommend a ford to anyone .
Car has intermittently soft or spongy feeling to the brake pedal during what seems like no specific reason. master cylinder has been replaced and issue continues. bleeding the brakes doesn't cause any change and pumping the brakes only results in moderate return of the brake system.
While hitting a pothole or driving on a wet surface and using the brakes the brakes lock up and the car slides before coming to a stop. after this happens the brakes are very spongy and go all the way to the floor when being pressed. when this happens i need to swerve around other vehicles to avoid an accident. i believe this is an issue with the abs.
Heading to work, i encountered a hard braking event which the abs reacted to, car was able to continue but the brake pedal became soft for all subsequent braking, and not able to stop the car in a satisfactory distance!! i turned around and headed home at a slow rate of speed but had to use the emergency brake to provide added stopping ability. car was parked (after trying to pump up pedal in driveway) for the day, when i returned home, there were no codes in a std. code detector and no visible signs of fluid leaks under car or at wheels and fluid level seemed appropriate. car has about 95000 miles on it. took car for a ride after work to plan my next days troubleshooting and all seems normal?! on line search found many similar reports.
My brake petal has become spongy and i have to press it almost all the way to the floor in order to get it to stop.
Driving along the freeway i had to brake suddenly and the abs system malfunctioned causing the brake pedal to drop to the floor. replaced the master cylinder but the problem still exists and the car is dangerous to drive. the abs valve replacement is $1,200. and the car only has 60,000 miles on it. based on research this appears to be a very common problem for ford and lincoln. i've had to part the vehicle until i can figure out the proper fix.
Slight rain, 35 mph, hit brakes to make a right hand turn from clifton road to davis ford rd. brake failed, i could not make it onto either my new road nor remain in my old road. i managed to drive between the open gates of a cemetery at the intersection. the very rough terrain (massive pothole and clay/gravel surface helped me slow. i did have some breaking power at the very bottom of my pedal's reach, but i had no response where my brakes had been working before. i have since read that brake failure due to abs malfunction in common for this model. people can die at 35 mph, i am extremely lucky i had some place to go that did not involve one of the two light poles, a gate post, or a ditch.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. the contact stated while driving at 25 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to stop the vehicle. the contact stated he then used the emergency park brake in order for the vehicle to come to a stop. the vehicle was taken to local dealer haldeman ford located at 607 nj-33, trenton, nj 08619, (888) 461-7845, where it was diagnosed with needing an alb module replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 120,000.
Hydraulic control my abs system has not been working correctly since purchase of my ford fusion back in november 2015. i have taken it back to the haldeman ford dealership in trenton nj on route 33 multiple times where they either did not look at he problem, document it or replaced the same part(s) over and over again. until the warranty ran out 96000 miles. then they were able to diagnose the problem accurately at 97798 miles and request $1500 for repairs. since the car was derivable at the time and their service was not to be trusted any more i declined service and drove it until the breaks hit the floor, literally. around 120000 miles i was taking my kids to an amusement park and the breaks stopped working all together landing myself, and my two children ages six (6) and two (2) in the middle of a busy intersection. luckily nobody was hurt, but now the haldeman ford dealership in trenton nj on route 33 has my car until it is fixed. they refuse to fix it because it is not under warranty but continue to tell me to call ford corporate. ford corporate tells me to call the dealership as they are all independently owned and they cannot assist. please start a recall on this known issue, a quick google search will pull up many results, as so i can keep my children safe and with a father.
After applying my brakes on a close call my break pedal no goes all the way to the floor. takes a long distance to stop. i brought my vehicle in to have it fixed and apparently the abs control module and hydraulic brake controller will not re-engage! ford wants close to $2000 for a replacement. after research i believe it is a faulty factory abs control unit
Brake pedal goes all the way to the floor after abs system triggers, brakes get extremely soft and take weeks to return to normal usually after having to force a hard stop. i've taken it to ford service and they could not recreate the problem, they gave me list of repairs. recently, a mechanic attempted to fix it but still didn't fix the spongy/soft brake petal. see attachments of repairs and ford service's explanation. please do a recall this is a safety issue now.
Break pedal periodically goes to the floor on wet or uneven pedal. loss of breaking. soft pedal
Abs went off in the rain and pedal pressure never went back to normal. i have to push the brakes all the way to the floor.
Brake pedal goes all the way to the floor after abs system triggers, brakes get extremely soft and take weeks to return to normal usually after having to force a hard stop.
Brakes gone soft. has bad abs hydraulic control unit
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. while the contact's son was driving 25 mph, the brakes failed when the brake pedal was depressed. the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard and the vehicle drove through an intersection. there was no crash. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number. the contact was advised to take the vehicle to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the failure mileage was 149,172.
The brake pedal goes most of the way to the floor with 90 percent loss of brake pressure causing the vehicle to take a longer amount of time to stop when the abs system activates on slippery roads or when driving on bumpy road conditions. this has happened repeatedly for over a year. the last incident was 02/26/2019 and almost disabled the vehicle with its severity.
Hydraulic control unit causing soft brake pedal after an anti-skid event. braking is delayed and pedal travels is almost to floor.
The hydraulic control unit for the brakes is not working properly. this occurred after the vehicle tires spun slightly in about 1/2-1 inch of snow while pulling out of a parking spot onto a paved city street triggering the asb. the vehicle was parked inside a garage for a week before being driven again and the braking problem discovered. now when you press on the brake pedal to slow down or stop, it fades down before coming to a hard stop and the vehicle takes a greater distance to stop. there is great concern that the brakes will fail completely, causing an accident. this issue should be addressed as a safety recall.
Upon applying the brakes to slow down in order to make a right turn, the pedal went to the floor and braking was very slow/soft. it did not recover after stopping and restarting the car. was able to get to my mechanic who discovered a failed abs hydraulic pump control unit.
Brake pedal gets "soft" and requires significantly more travel to activate brakes. especially in an emergency situation. at least 2 accidents have occurred because of this. furthermore we have taken the car to a dealer and an independent repair facility but they could not fix the issue
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. the contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the brake pedal would extend to the floor causing the braking distance to be extended. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer apple ford (8800 stanford blvd, columbia) who diagnosed that abs valve in the brake control unit was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was not included in the nhtsa campaign number 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 151,000.
While driving on slick roads, during a braking event the antilock brakes activated. after that for the next two hours, while driving in very slick conditions, when the brake pedal was applied it basically went to the floor. brake pedal had to be pumped to get the brakes to work. this has happened on two separate occasions.
Brake pedal goes to floor had new brakes all the way around new master clinder had system bleed 4 times keeps coming back after abs kicks very danerous please help
Brakes go to the floor when the anti lock brakes come on and car keeps on going..same complaint others are having. has happened a few times
Abs brake controller: after abs was activated on a slippery stop, abs light and traction control light illuminate intermittently at startup and while driving. abs and/or traction control operate intermittently during normal dry stops. the behavior is consistent with the descriptions on the nhtsa site of cars with fouled abs controller valves. turning off the traction control system seems to decrease the frequency that abs gets activated during normal stops.
When driving over rough road or when its raining and applying the brakes, the pedal goes to the floor. it seems as when the abs system activates it causes the brake system to lose stopping power. after awhile the brakes seem to reset. i have taken it to numerous mechanics and they cannot duplicate the problem. an internet search, which i'm sure you're aware of, has documented numerous cases of this possible abs pump failure. this has been an ongoing event for the past year.
Hello nhtsa, i was driving my car normally as any driver and i put my foot on the brake for a stop sign and suddenly the brakes go down on the ground and are not working. the issue is in the abs module and pump. this issue is common for all ford fusion and milan cars. this caused me several horrible scenarios where i could've died. i take extra care for my car and this is a car manufacture problem. i'm very disappointed with ford about this and i hope this would be considered as a recall. here is a youtube video of a mechanic which explains the problem in detail and also mentions that it should be considered as a recall. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwflkcxxzty sincerely, [xxx] redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *cc *tr
While turning onto cty street the car in front of me stopped quickly causing me to slam on my brakes. the next stop sign i came to the brakes went to the floor. my son drove the car the next day and said he almost went into an intersection because the brakes went to the floor even after pumping them. the brakes are new the master cylinder is full of fluid. ford must recall these vehicals immediatley, if a death is caused by continued delay you will be held accountable. act now
Driving in wet conditions on side road, was slowing down for red light and abs kicked in and slid a little and brakes went soft after. was able to pump brakes and they went back to normal. a few months later in wet conditions again on side road trying to stop, abs kicked in and brakes went soft. they never returned to normal and would have to press brakes all the way down to engage braking. they had been soft ever since. took in to ford dealership and they had to replace the hcu system and then they were back to normal.
Brakes are low/soft when abs is activated and it's been diagnosed as being hcu defective from factory. this is very dangerous for public because it can cause driver to crash into objects or other cars. this needs to be recalled by ford motor company.
If the brakes are applied while on snow, ice or bumps the abs engages then the brake pedal goes to the floor and will have to be pushed to the floor to stop after that. to bring the pedal back to normal operating condition i have to stop the car, take it out of gear then pump the brakes extremely hard. this could happen in as little as every 20 feet when driving in snowy conditions. this also affects the steering when driving in slippery conditions. the abs is suppose to help keep the car in control when roads are slippery. because it's not working properly i have to drive slower then everyone else on the road and it will still slide around, especially on turns. i have searched the web and have found that 3 ford built cars have this problem because of faulty abs pumps. i was going to to file a complaint years ago but when i research back then it looked like it was a well known problem to ford and the nhtsa so i thought it would be recalled soon anyway. however since they still haven't been recalled i decided to file a complaint. ford charges about $1500.00 to replaced the part which to me is like stealing from their customers since they know they put a faulty part in and that it is a safety hazard. below you ask when this happened. it's been happening since the first snow after i bought the car and still happens. thanks
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. while attempting to stop the vehicle, the brake pedal became soft and traveled to the floorboard when depressed. the contact had to apply excessive pressure to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact called village ford (11660 se north, us-441, belleview, fl 34420, (352) 233-2900) and was informed that they could not schedule an appointment because they were too busy. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure the failure mileage was 142,741. *bf consumer stated since this incedent, i've had two more, the dealership said it was beakes, but it only happens with an abs event. check out abs module. *jb
Numerous occasions where brake went soft during 2018. had the brakes checked out 2x but nothing was determined. i'm december 2018 during a skiff of snow the brakes went soft and to the floor and my daughter rear ended the truck in front of her causing $3,000 in damage. thankful the defective airbag that we have been waiting to get fixed under recall for 1.5 years+ did not deploy.
Brake pedal is soft and requires increased brake pedal travel until the brakes are applied. this problem occurred after the abs system was activated on snowy roads. this brake problem made driving extremely difficult as the brakes were considerably reduced. braking has still not returned to normal after 3 days and no longer consider my vehicle safe to drive and currently researching options to repair.
While approaching a stop sign in the state of wi in november with snow covered roads my abs activated while sliding into the stop sign and braking however the break just went to the floor and i drove right through the stop sign. i proceeded to pump the break however the breaks were soft and squishy. the brakes are not working properly. due to the hydraulic control unit which has a valve sticking. a common problem i learned with this vehicle. this needs to be recalled so no one get seriously injured.
This vehicle fails to stop on slick or icy roads. step on brake and it goes right to floor. after 5 to 10 seconds brake will build back up. sometimes brake locks up and slides to the left. this has been under investigation since 2016, is our government planning on giving us some kind of relief from the ford motor company. why is it taking so long? how many people have to get hurt before you make ford pay for their mistake. you have already had an admission the fault was caused by the hcu being composed of zinc which was the major problem. very expensive fix and ford should eat their own mistake. help us fusion owners. this has happened to me a number of times. i can't afford a new car and the mechanics fix does not work, even though it is a 2 thousand dollar fix.
Brakes have gone spongy/soft. i have to push the pedal all the way to the floor to even get to stop at all. it's very scary. i used to be able to reset it, when it happened, by pulling off the road, pushing the pedal to the floor, shutting my car off, restarting my car, and driving again. this last time, it will not reset. i know many complaints have been filed for this, and i've been aware of the issue since i got the car in 2013. do we need someone's family to experience a "fatal injury" before it's recalled? it's been an issue for a long time, and it's sad that, people's lives aren't being taking seriously. what if you get rear-ended by a fusion, lincoln or mercury that kills your child in the backseat, because their brakes quit working. this has happened multiple times but i the most current that has caused me to not have working brakes is: on monday night, (11/26/18 - around 6p) i was driving about 30-35 miles an hour, on john paul rd, heading towards sunset, to take a left to go home, three deer ran out in front of my car and i had to slam on my brakes. afterwards, my brakes no longer worked properly, i tried to reset, like i mentioned earlier, and it would not work. i've tried repeatedly since then, in hopes that they will, but to no avail. thank you.
The brake pedal goes to the floor after an abs event such as hitting a bump in the road or slippery conditions. the pedal remains soft and will go to the floor diminishing breaking ability.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. while driving 20 mph, the vehicle failed to respond when the brake pedal was depressed. in addition, the abs warning indicator illuminated. the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, but the failure recurred. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the dealer (grand ledge ford, 6080 e saginaw hwy, grand ledge, mi 48837, (517) 627-8100) was contacted to schedule a second diagnostic appointment. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 90,000.
