Brakes suddenly are spongy and have to be pressed nearly to the floor to stop the car. has happened on city streets, highways, and in garage. has nearly caused an accident because braking time and distance increased with absolutely no notice. have had to had the abs bled three separate times in the last 18 months at a repair shop. severely disappointed to learn that hundreds of these instances have been reported and ford has not issued a recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. while driving 35 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. the contact stated that the pedal was soft and spongy. the contact pumped the brake pedal a few times and the brake pedal returned to normal. the vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
The brakes go soft after going over a rough patch or a pot hole. brakes go all the way to the floor, reducing stopping distance. this is a known safety issue and it needs to be recalled before someone gets injured or worse. it occurs frequently on my vehicle and in my opinion, it is very dangerous.
After going over a set of rail road tracks my breaks would go all the way tot the floor. i would not have any breaks for like 45 seconds and im like trying yo stop and nothing until i keep pumping. it's happened twice now and i go slow over the tracks.
Instances where braking while going over rough road or bumps causes brake to stop working, pedal goes to floor. recently applied brake while going over slight uneven pavement. brake went soft, to floor, traveled approx 75 yards. wouldn't stop. able to coast to parking spot w curb. very scary!!!! shut off car, came back out hour later still soft too the floor. no brake. pumped several times and then they seemed to work fine. took to look local shop nothing wrong that they could find. researched and it's the same abs issue and occurrence as reported by others. luckily there weren't any vehicles., obstacles or pedestrians in front of me or i would have hit them. i shook for over an hour.
Car was in motion on a city street in traffic. as i drove over a small pothole while i was braking, it began to brake normally then suddenly went almost to the floor and the car did not slow down until the last moment. i barely missed hitting the car in front of me.
Brake peddle goes to floor when stopping. the master brake cylinder was replaced and the brakes were bled but the problem still exists. i hear from others with this same car issue that it is a faulty abs pump and is very dangerous. ford needs to do a recall on these units and don't wait until someone dies from not being able to brake.
This vehicle model has a faulty hcu for the abs brakes that fails consistently. it has failed on me and many people who own the same vehicle. make ford responsible and have them issue a recall on this now before people are killed by the brake failure resulting in lawsuits against ford and the nhtsa for failing to do their job
Ford brakes: whenever you hit a bump in the road, the brakes catch air and they do not work!
Pressed brake pedal, brakes seemed soft or spongy and were slow to brake vehicle.released brake pedal and attempted again. brakes finally resumed working but now see softer than before. automotive repair could not determine cause but advised replacing abs due to receiving similar complaints.
Problems with the abs hcu. abs activated after hitting large bump in the road and then brake pedal has been soft ever since. it has done this twice in the past however it has corrected itself rather quickly. this time it has not corrected itself after 3 days.
I was driving down the highway at 70pmh, tried to slow entering a curve onto another highway, 271s to 71s, in ohio and had to hit my brakes hard because traffic jammed suddenly. i didn't have brakes at all, my abs never kicked in. i went off the side of the highway and even then couldn't stop with my foot all the way down.i nearly hit the person in front of me going about 50+. i took it directly to my mechanic who replaced my master cylinder again (2x in 5 months) and after he was done the pedal no longer brakes properly. when attempting to stop the pedal is nearly to the floor. it is akin to not having pedals at all. i have to stand on it to stop and even then its the panic feeling of being unable to stop. this is an issue that could kill and i've read many other stories of people with similar issues with braking. ford said that happens sometimes when my mechanic called and gave no further reasoning to it. i don't feel safe driving a car i've had a year that's not even a decade old.
Abs engages when braking going over gravel, or other small bumps in the road and does not return to normal. brake pedal goes to floor, resulting in almost complete loss of brakes. brakes do not return to normal until the car is restarted. this has happened consistently whenever the abs engages.
Was not notified of any recalls on this vehicle when i purchased it. i had an accident last month and the brakes locked up and i couldn't control the steering and went careening off the roadway into a stationary sign and tow up the passenger side of my vehicle. the passenger air bag never deployed. nor the driver air bag.
Brakes go to the floor after abs engagement. issue is intermittent and mechanics are unable to diagnose it. vehicle is coming to a stop happens randomly under extreme and regular braking.
While driving on a pot hold or cracked street the brakes seem to shake and either become loose or go to the floor as the car is in motion it's difficult to stop. also starting to notice that the brakes ehen pushed all the way are not allowing the car to come to a complete stop without hitting any rough streets. i have had the vehicle from jan 2015 till now july 2017 and this issue has happened to me multiple times approximately 8 to 10 times. most recent brake issue was today 7/7/17 driving 10mph and my mileage is at 127,000 miles
Abs control valve sticks when brake is used hard. after that, loses brake pedal. apparently this is a common issue for years 07-09.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. while driving and making a turn, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to operate as intended. in addition, the contact stated that the brake pedal was spongy traveled to the floorboard before bringing the vehicle to a complete stop. the contact coasted to the side of the road, waited for a while, and resumed driving slowly. there were no warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic (carlo auto repair shop) where it was diagnosed that the abs hydraulic control unit failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
Driver hit pothole/bump while driving which activated the abs brake system. brake petal went to the floor, remained very soft and is very close to the floor. brakes work but have to be depressed almost to the floor. informed abs control/hydraulic assembly needs go be replaced. the abs pump/hydraulic assembly failed which is a braking safety hazard.
In may, my car lost nearly all brake pressure after i had to make an abrupt stop to avoid a collision. i was traveling straight on a paved road when i engaged in the abrupt stop at an approximate speed of 45 mph. this issue had occurred in the past as well, but within the next 1-2 times i drove my car the brake pressure would return. this time it did not. when i took my car to a local brake mechanic shop,. i was initially told that i needed a new master cylinder. when i took the car in to have the master cylinder replaced the mechanic told me that upon further review he was able to tell that the master cylinder in the brakes is not the issue, and he's restored brake pressure to the system; however, once the abs system was engaged the "soft" brakes returned. the mechanic further noted that his belief is that the abs module has failed.
Braking system problems. going to stop with brakes very soft or non existent. most of the system has been replaced with oem parts to no avail. problem to be hydraulic control unit for abs system. almost caused numerous accidents because the car would not stop when the brake petal went all the way to the floor. started after abs system kicked in last winter. the car was in motion and roads were slightly icy. happened again last night may 18 2017 at 1130 at night. car failed to stop at intersection at my work in butler pa pulling on to route 8 a major highway. car finally stopped about an 1/8 th of way threw then light changed to green then proceed in my way home brakes returned to the normal soft petal and made it home safely.
No brakes .... my car has been basically yard art for several months .... have had issues with spongy brakes for years if i had to stop suddenly and the abs brakes where engaged ...then the brakes would go spongy.. another time i didn't even know if the car was going to stop i slide instead of stopping ... this past may 2017 i was in traffic and a car pulled out in front of me had to slam my brakes on and i barely got stopped ! scared me to death .. brakes were extremely spongy by the time i made it home i didn't have any brakes at all !!! my husband replaced brake pads , calibers, master cylinder , and rotors ! well over $700 i paid out . still have no brakes at all . this is a safety issue why is nothing being done ????? i'm the only income my family has and now i have a car almost paid for that just sits !!! it's yard art prett much .... i am spending a fortune to get to work and back and can't afford the $500 for theabs module / pump not to mention the cost to have it put on !!! this is horrible ... i'm already die hard ford girl but after his experience i will never buy another one ....
Brakes were operational w/ normal function/ response. i firmly pressed the pedal, to avoid a pothole, traveling over a railroad crossing. immediately thereafter, the brakes became/remain 30% effective, w/ no loss of fluid. i've had my mechanic replace the abs module & master cylinder to no avail/ success. i'll now take to dealer for diagnostics, so i may unload/sell immediately thereafter repairs.
Hit a pothole in road just prior to stop light, brakes did not stop car until after going through intersection, then took a long time to stop even at slow speeds while driving to repair shop. i had to push brake pedal nearly to the floor to get it to stop, even at slow speeds.
Abs braking system issue on ford fusion. after engaging abs, the brakes are loose and soft causing driver to press firmly to applied brakes and causing longer stops. have had two brake specialist review and they are unable to resolve. seems to be a common complaint among ford fusion owners. own ford focus, edge, explorer, and mercury monterrey and mountaineer that do not exhibit this issue.
When braking, the pedal may initially require little movement to slow down but may suddenly stop braking and the pedal will drop to nearly full travel before brakes start working again, and then sometimes at that point brake hard. other times, if braking hard enough on the slippery surface, the abs will kick in, but afterwards the pedal will become very soft and ineffective. sometimes, turning off the car and restarting will "reset" the brakes, but not always. also, some days without explanations the pedal is softer than other times. there is not a consistent amount of travel required for the same braking. the vehicle shows no error codes at any of these times. the pedal going soft for no reason without an abs event happened today so i will enter today as the day this happened, but these issues have been happening often for the last few years.
Abs light is on with soft braking.
When braking on a bumpy road, brakes become soft/ goes to the floor. abs problem. happened about 9x already. almost cost an accident. have to re trigger the abs to restore brake firmness.
On multiple occasions after going over an uneven surface the vehicle has developed a soft brake pedal after abs activation. this of course significantly increases the stopping distance of the vehicle. the condition will persist but can typically be temporarily corrected by performing a panic stop that causes the abs to activate. i am a former ase certified master technician, service advisor and current assistance service manager for various manufacturer at a dealer level. this issue obviously originates from one or more valves inside the abs hydraulic control unit sticking. your average customer/consumer would not know what to do in the event this condition occurs and accidents have obviously already happened and will continue to happen. you're average independent repair shops would not know how to diagnose this condition and likely not be able to repair it. my mother drives this car which i gave to her and thankfully hardly drives. after working for general motors during the ignition switch disaster and the dozens of recalls they released after i wouldn't be upset to never see another recall again. however this is a fault within a vehicle i firmly believe should not be the consumers responsibility to repair. this affects the safety of not just those in the car but those outside the car as well.
When hitting brakes while going over rough or bumpy roads at 25 miles per hour or higher brakes engage anti-lock braking and brake pedal stops working with now power and no resistance. brakes stop working and must be pumped several times to get a response. slowly at times it may take days to get back to working a full pressure unless issue arises with rough road.
Braking is soft. must push brake pedal near to the floor to stop. after pumping the brakes, they tighten up. this started after i braked suddenly going over a speed bump at about 25 miles per hour. mechanic says the problem is probably the abs hydraulic unit. i saw several youtube videos that match my problem with my vehicle.
Brake pedal excessive travel and on a few occasions went to the floor when hard braking on highway nearly causing an accident.
After each time the anti-lock brakes engage the brake pedal feel becomes soft. this issue has been occurring intermittently over the past 3 years. the pedal feel stays soft for days, slowly returning to normal. the car will still stop, however, during these times, just to slow my car, the pedal must be pushed almost to the floor with substantially more force than normal.
While turning into driveway where there was a manhole cover which created a minimal bump in the roadway, the brakes went to the floor. the car was barely able to stop as normal. since then the brakes are very spongy and low to the floor. the brakes returned to normal after driving again but then the same thing happened again. again it happened while turning and braking while going over a small pot hole entering a freeway onramp. a mechanic says it is due to the hydrolic control unit.
On 2/3/2017 i bought a 2008 ford fusion sel,,from a used car dealership an,about a month after while driving a lady pulled out in front of me an when i tried to apply my breaks they went about a inch or so from the floor board, was a very scary feeling, that i pray never happen's again! after barely missing i pumped the breaks for a few minutes, then peddle might of been about 3 to 4 inches from thethe floor. i called the used car dealer the next morning told him what happened ,an he tried to tell me it just needs new break pads and breaks bleed !. i replied back to him that breaks dont go from working 1 minute an the next minute to the floor,an i mentioned before the pads are that gone i would of heard a metal rubbing sound,he still insisted i take it to his mechanic which still put pads on an bleed the breaks, which didnt fix, after i came an to get it i asked if it was the master break cylinder or booster,an he replyed that he just had to put pads on it an bleed the breaks,.an he suppose to be a mechanic i thought to myself, and he said its ready to go,so i did a couple blocks an the breaks were the same ,so i went back tellig him that the breaks are still going to the floor so he says he asked to drive it he did an came back said its ok now, that i just need to pump the breaks on it because it had abs break system that needed pumped up awhile.thats when i said like im going to have time to pump breaks when someone pulls in front of me or stops fast! so i left again praying the break peddle would stop going allmost to the floor! a week later i called the dealer again an he told me take back to his mechanic,so i did an when i returned to pick car up i asked what it was he tells me he put a new break booster on it.an that just fixed breaks enough to have a half of peddle on breaking, about two months later i was driving in a 35mph zone hit bump breaks went out,and again 3 x'
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. while driving 45 mph, the master cylinder and brake booster malfunctioned. the contact loss complete control of the brake functionality and had to engage the emergency brake to come to a complete stop. it was diagnosed that the failure was due to the master cylinder or brake booster control. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 79,597.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. while driving approximately 10 mph, the contact drove over a bump and lost braking ability. the contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floor. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. the failure mileage was 72,000.
I was coming to a stop from a normal speed of about 30 miles per hour when my break pedal went straight to the floor. i had to swerve into the next lane to keep from running into the back of the car in front of me. i had to pump the breaks several times to come to a stop. i took my car to my mechanic and he replaced the break mastercylinder but that did not fix the problem. he did some research and concluded that the abs module is faulty and needs to be taken to the dealer for further repair. i can currently stop my car while driving but my break pedal has to be pushed nearly to the floor and i have to break from a significantly further distance.
Brake pedal collapsing before brakes engage. replaced vacuum booster and master cylinder in attempt to repair. slightly improved but condition still exist, diminishing brake effectiveness. i relied on reputable shop for these repairs and spent $700 for only partial improvement. google search indicates a failure in the abs valving. unknown if abs works in this condition. abs was severely engaged within weeks before failure. see the following from google of: "2008 ford fusion soft brake pedal. this video describes all circumstances perfectly, other than on this car, the brake pedal is constantly diminished at any speed whenever driven. never as good as it was up to this past winter, please watch: ford fusion: low/soft brake pedal at times - youtube video for 2008 ford fusion soft brake pedal▶ 6:41 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r46_unyyk8 note: both myself and my brother [xxx] are on the title and i handle all matters to maintain the car. it is registered at his address: [xxx] as his only vehicle. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'*jb
Brakes go soft after getting abs action. brakes will be almost non functional after braking hard then trying to use them again. have almost had several accidents over this.
Came to a stop at a stop light and brakes feel soft and spongy. after the car stopped the car started going forward while the same amount of pressure was being applied to the brake pedal. had to apply more pressure to get the car to stop moving. sometimes when the brakes are applied now it feels like they are going to the floor and i have to use more than normal force to get them to stop the car in time. no leaks found and fluid levels look good.
The anti lock breaking system does not work correctly. when there is a snow covered road and no traction the brakes engage and you can feel the anti lock engage however they then have a soft pedal from that point forward.. the anti lock system does not go back to working correctly.
After applying the brakes in the rain and the abs activating my brake pedal has been soft since then. i have had the brake system power bled at ford and serviced with new brake fluid, that didn't solve the problem. i replaced the master cyclinder and that didn't help. i've inspected all the calipers and everything seems to be working fine. after doing research i've seen numerous others have had the same problem. i also seen that you all have a current investigation against this condition. pe 16-017. i would like to see i can get added to this complaint as i believe that ford has an issue with its hcu and this is an unsafe driving condition.
For around 8 months, often while braking my brake pedal will lose pressure and go almost to the floor. it doesn't lose all pressure but makes for a difficult stop. this has caused me several times to almost rear end other cars and not be able to slow down enough while taking corners. it happens in motion highway and city. more so on bumpy roads or harder braking. my mechanic, which is at a ford dealer checks everything out for me every oil change. he states that there are no leaks and the master cylinder if functioning properly. i believe it was the hydraulic control unit that he suggested could be the issue. there are numerous complaints online about similar year cars having the same issue. i consider this a serious safety issue, i believe the reason i haven't had an accident is that i'm used to the issue now, but i believe it's a matter of time before an accident happens.
While driving on an icy street i had an abs event where the abs engaged but then immediately thereafter the brake pedal felt very soft as if there was little or no brake. i pulled to the side of the road and after pumping the brakes to test them the pedal never regained its prior feel. i was able to get the car home and then tested it again the next day. at first the brakes seemed back to normal but after pressing them hard enough for the abs to engage it again loss pedal and felt soft. no accident occurred as a result but we have not driven the car since
The abs system engaged while travelling down the road and hit a pot hole. ever since this situation i have had very soft brakes. you almost have to push the brake pedal to the floor in order to get the brakes to fully engage and stop the vehicle. brakes have been serviced and we have come to the conclusion the abs module is the component that needs replaced. the valves are stuck open and fluid is bypassing which is causing the issue.
The brake pedal suddenly went to the floor when my wife was driving vehicle thank goodness for e brakes on center console
Brake pedal travels too far before engaging. gets worse after abs has been used. this is an ongoing problem and ford cant come up with a reasonable answer. this has happened on many occasions from sitting at a dead stop to highway speeds. if you pump the brakes a few times they stiffen up but then get spongy after abs is forced to kick in.
Whole brake system failed 01/04/2013. had whole system replaced at a cost of over $1700. it is happening again and ford wants me to replace the whole system again for close to $2000.00. i had them flush system which seemed to solve the issue for only a month. i am afraid i am going to injury myself or someone else. is there any action i can take to get ford to admit there is a defect in there brakes?01/
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. while driving approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floor when depressed. the vehicle was driven to a mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was an abs failure. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
