Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. while attempting to stop the vehicle at a traffic light, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to operate as intended. the contact stated that the brake pedal was spongy and allowed the brake pedal to travel to the floorboard before being able to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. the contact stated that the failure occurred after the brakes were serviced by an independent mechanic. the vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic and the brake lines were bled; however, the failure recurred. the contact stated that the failure occurred whenever the vehicle encountered a rough roadway. the contact stated that the abs warning indicator illuminated and the braking function would diminish. the contact stated that if the vehicle was turned off and the brake pedal was depressed several times, the vehicle could then be turned on and would operate as intended. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 126,000.
I was driving on a major highway. when i attempted to brake for the red light my brake pedal had no pressure. i had to push it hard all the way to the floor to get the car to stop. this has happened to me three times in the last 6 months. it is very scary not knowing if i will make it through the light or stop sign without hitting the car in front of me or being hit myself. i have had no leaks, warning lights or noticeable grinding sounds. i am afraid to drive when the snow comes. in addition, i have received notice that my passenger air bag is defective. i question why it is only the passenger.why would ford use another manufacturer for the other airbags? in closing, what is taking so long to get these parts? this is a serious problem!
I have experienced dangerous braking issues immediately following engagement of the abs system. it first happened on wet roads not too long after changing brakes (rotors/pads). a firm braking was being done, but it wasn't enough to kick in abs until going over a painted rr crossing sign on the road. the paint was slippery and caused the abs to fire and immediately it felt like the brakes went out entirely. pushing almost to the floor would stop the car and at that point they brakes felt strong. the problem went away after about 30 minutes. it happened again a second time when making a left turn. i was going a bit to fast into the turn and the road was rough. same symptoms. it's happened probably 4 or 5 times in total. once it happened making a right turn into a business. i went over a bump in the road that you normally pay no attention to (raised area where a pipe or something was dug up and replaced, then paved over). the immediate loss of pedal firmness and braking power caused me to overshoot the right side of the entrance. if a car had been exiting, i would have hit it. most of the time the problem resolves itself in a day or so, but the longest lasted about 5 days. i'm hesitant to get it fixed because the hydraulic control unit is very expensive. internet research also points out that this very common issue is being diagnosed as a failing master cylinder and many people indicate that doesn't solve the problem. as of now, this is not fixed. i drive much more cautiously, especially in slippery conditions.
I have a 2008 ford fusion, about 1 year ago brakes went to floor while driving. almost rear ended guy in front of me. had the car looked at several times at auto shops to be told it was abs control module. almost a 700$part. luckily they found a newer used one for me. never buying ford again after this
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. when the brake pedal was depressed, the pedal felt soft. the failure corrected itself for eight months until it became constant. the dealer (bill kay ford, 2556 s cicero ave, midlothian, il) diagnosed that the master cylinder was faulty and needed replacement. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was returned to the dealer, but the failure could not be diagnosed. the contact made multiple attempts to contact the manufacturer regarding the failure; however, the contact was disconnected from the customer service representatives. the failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
In winter 2014/2015, cars brakes quit working while driving in snow. i took the car to a mechanic who could not replicate the problem. drove car for about a year to this past winter 2015/2016, when driving on snow attempted to slow down at traffic light for a left-hand turn doing 45 mph when breaks quit working again. i could not stop and cars slid through intersection. finally coasted to a stop on side of road. took her back to mechanic who replace the master cylinder. on april 20, 2016, i pulled into a convenience store and hit a bump in the parking lot breaks quit working and i almost ran into the building of the store. after sitting in park and pushing the break as i had done previously, they worked fine and i was able to drive home. i may 3,2016, i pulled into that same convenient store with the same bump and lost my brakes again. this time bumping the curb before i stopped. i called ford i may for 2016 after doing some research online and finding that this is a common problem with the 2008 ford fusion yet there is no recall. ford said unfortunately there is no recall but i could take my car to a ford service center for repair. i feel this is a serious safety problem and i could die or end up killing someone else because i can't stop.
As i came to an intersection, i was depressing the brake and the pedal went all the way down. ever since then, i have to press the brake pedal all the way to the floor of the car in order to come to a complete stop. every time the brake pedal is unpressed their is an "air" noise coming from the hood of the car. i have changed the brake fluid cap, bled the brake lines, changed the calipers, and even replaced the master cylinder and the problem is still the same: brake pedal has to be depressed all the way to come to a complete stop and every time the brake is unpressed it makes an "air' noise. my dashboard never lit up with a warning before this happened.
The problem initially began because i had to brake hard to avoid an accident on the freeway and the brakes failed. after restarting the vehicle the brakes went back to normal. a week later as i was driving down a street, i braked normally to pull in to a business parking lot and the brakes failed almost completely. the pedal went down to the floor and would not stop the vehicle in a safe distance. also, they had a spongy feel. they would not properly grip until i turned the car off and then on again. had there been another vehicle in front of me i would have hit them, or if this happened on a local freeway here in houston, tx it could be potentially fatal. after researching the problem, i learned that many other individuals have had the same exact issue. the problem appears to be a faulty abs modulator.
On multiple occasions when driving over rough, icy, or wet roads and or turning in these conditions while applying the brake, the abs will engage and the brake pedal will become soft and go almost to the floor. the abs system is designed this way, however, after an abs event, braking action should return to normal (i.e. no pulsating) in this case it does not. it seems the hydraulic control unit valves stay stuck open after an abs event and fail to close, this leads to low brake pressure/pulsating brakes all the time. extremely dangerous and frustrating. no prior braking issues occurred before this event and recent brake system checks were made. this is a recurring issue that sometimes 'magically' fixes itself in between engine starts. *tr
When coming to a stop or slowing down when i go to brake the paddle can go all the way to the floor losing brake pressure. once this happens the brake do not recover for sometime i have to pump the brakes in order to stop. it sometimes takes a day before they recover. this usually occurs while braking on uneven roads , manhole covers, railroad tracks it can happen on slight imperfections in the road also very scary.
On three occasions, upon suddenly braking, brake pedal failed. took it to ford once and they couldnt tell me what was wrong. ford dealer said, "must've been a freak accident." i ignored the second time brake pedal went to the floor as pressure built up soon after, but the third time, took it back to ford dealer. they quickly said it was the master cylinder. i didn't accept the diagnoses. did some research and found online that there are so many other 2008 fusion brakes issues like mine! and no recall!?! research points towards the hydrualic control unit, the mechanical part of the abs module is bad. and it's a common issue! people can die over this! i have no abs indication showing on my instrument panel... on all three occasions i was driving on level roads or highways. how can ford not fix this? is it not common enough just yet!?! maybe let a few die and have the media have a field day with the deaths before ford responds??? ford has a responsibility to its vehicles! where's the pride and good will from ford? god forbid ford take responsibility and make a recall and prevent them from taking away from there profits!!!
I tried to stop a little faster than normal and had to put my brake pedal to the floor. once i did that, my brakes continued to only work pressing all the way dow or by pumping them to build pressure. this went on about 24 hours before they went back to normal. this has happened a few times in the short month i have had this car. reading complaints on line for this same problem tells me there is no fix. this is not safe not knowing when your brakes aren't going to work when you need them to. no liservice or and lights come on at all.
Brake pedal goes almost all the way to floor, and is spongy. car does not stop as well as it should. have had rotors, calipers, brake pads and fluid changed. did google search and found this a very common issue with ford fusions. the issue is the abs module and pump. a valve inside gets stuck open and when brakes are applied, the fluid just recirculates inside the module, and brakes lose effectiveness.
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. while driving 35 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the brake booster and master cylinder needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 92,578.
First event, upon approaching a city stoplight & braking, the 2008 ford fusion skidded on a manhole cover, vibrated, shuddered & suddenly brakes went soft & i had to press all the way to the floor to stop. car took a long time & distance to stop, & approx. 15 minutes to recover normal braking capability. problem has occurred when brake is engaged & travelling over rough pavement as well as manhole covers - with additional time now required to recover brakes. these sudden anti-lock braking episodes occur on city streets while coming to a stop so no excessive speed involved. episodes increasing in frequency over past year. mechanics dismissed issue after checking brakes a couple times & finding no problem. of course, anti-lock episodes are intermittent & never happen when mechanics are at the wheel! although our only vehicle, car is garaged until replacement parts arrive as unwilling to risk attempting to brake in winter road conditions. dangerous issue although thankfully no accidents to report.
2008 ford fusion faulty brakes "hydraulic control unit". (see links below )my wife and child where on the highway when she switched lanes and attempted to use her brakes at the same time. like out of a horror film her brakes did not work and pedal went down all the way to the floor. brakes went super soft and the vehicles emergency brake needed to be used to avoid a collision. after doing research i am not sure why this has not been a recall yet. i found countless people with the same complaint reporting faulty brakes and dealer reported a faulty hydraulic control module (please see links below). with a cost of up to $1000. this is unacceptable please look into this issue. * http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/fusion/2008/brakes/ *http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2008/ford/fusion/service_brakes_hydraulic/problem.aspx * http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2008/ford/fusion/hydraulic+brake * http://m.carcomplaints.com/ford/fusion/2008/brakes/service_brakes.shtml * http://repairpal.com/disgusted-with-the-brakes-532
While driving i was required to apply the brake pedal further than normal. to stop the pedal must be applied almost to the floor. brake pedal feels soft, sponge like, when applied. vehicle still stops but pumping them repeatedly is required. this is required when stationary, in motion and on city streets and highways. vehicle has 120k but this issue just started. stating the obvious that brakes are an important but certainly creates a safety issue even if the brakes stop the vehicle. you have to adjust your speed and timing when applying the brakes. although this has not occurred yet, sudden or emergency braking may be required so i can't confirm how they would react to this situation.
Brakes are spongy and intermittently do work at all ..have replaced calipers twice and bled the lines only to have the same problem. air bag on passengers side is coming apart in dash. drivers side door handle snapped and the doors lock themselves even with key in ignition running. looking online i see that many have had the same issues.
Brake pedal goes to floor when abs kicks in. brake pedal is now spongy. cd player makes noises like it is trying to change cd's but there are no cd's in it.
My brakes keep failing on my car , even after new brakes. they go all the way to the floor and i have almost been in 6 different accidents, once having to take the shoulder of the road and damaging a rim. it started at 14000 ish off and on and i only have 59000 on it now, and ford needs to take care of this. i have read so many complaints of the same. i mean this is not only dangerous for me and my passengers , but for anyone in front of me. i want my insurance company to know i have reported this issue, and i also have printed a file of all complaints i have found. they not only fail, but they grind..... with new rotors and brakes as everyone else is saying. i cannot drive it if it rains or snows, because you just cannot stop the car. i nearly was in a pile up on the hiway as well. it is scarey. i would challenge them on this. the other day i could not stop again. this is a problem ....so many people are complaining of the same thing.
While braking and hitting a bump in the road that activated the anti-lock braking system (abs) system the brake pedal would not engage properly after this. the pedal would have to be depressed almost all the way to the floor to stop. vehicle was inspected and determined to have a stuck valve on the hydraulic control unit which is an integral part of the abs system. repair cost was $100 to bleed all new fluid into the system and $925 to diagnose and repair the faulty abs hydraulic control unit.
The first time this happened i was sliding into traffic due to icy conditions. after hitting the brakes hard and engaging the abs system the brakes became spongey and went to the floor. this happened again after having to hit the brakes hard again and this time we were on an interstate. my mechanic has replaced the master cylinder, brakes, and adjusted them. after this happening several times my mechanic researched it to find the the abs modules on this model are faulty. this has happened 4 times in the last year. this is a very dangerous and expensive defect on this automobile. after searching online i have read several complaints with this model and the same defect has been noted.
Abs activated when slowing for a right hand turn on wet roads then brake pedal went to the floor and got very soft. car would not slow down, had to pull out of traffic lanes. abs indicator came on. after restarting car brakes recovered to normal however abs indicator comes on intermittently.
The brakes are "spongy", slow to stop, go to floor, etc. the pads have been replaced, rotors/drums serviced, fluid checked. all is in good repair but problem still persists. this happens whether driving on surface streets or interstates, on dry and wet roads. it's been a problem for almost a year. i was recently advised the brake booster needs to be replaced but while researching the cost of this, i came across many other complaints of the same problem, spanning several model years. this is obviously a factory defect that ford motor company needs to address and issue a recall on. *tr
Approaching a stop sign on a morning with some ice on the roads, the abs engaged and the brake pedal went to the floor. all subsequent braking attempts result in the pedal going down to the floor and increased stopping distance. this has happened multiple times over the years with this car. different components have been replaced but never solved the problem. it typically goes away on its own eventually. doesn't feel like a safe situation.
Once the abs applied brake pedal can be smashed to the floor
Brake pedal loses almost all power when braking over small bumps or pot holes or on slippery surfaces. faulty abs hydraulic control unit. hydraulic valves gets stuck causing the issue to occur. can lose complete braking power for days to weeks at a time
After engaging the abs on light snow, my brakes became spongy. couple of inches of play on the brake pedal before it would engage
In november 2015 i took my 2008 ford fusion to a mechanic because the brake pedal went soft. as i recall, i hit a regular ole pot hole and the brakes were non-existent until i pushed the pedal all the way to the floor. when i took it to the mechanic, he said there was power steering in my master cylinder, and that i needed my master cylinder replaced. i allowed him to do so and the brakes were working properly again. in december of 2015 i was pulling into ted's hotdogs and the pedal went soft, again. i took it back to the same mechanic and he noticed the soft pedal. after bleeding out the brakes the brakes returned to working properly. he said he saw nothing wrong with it and called it, "weird." when i picked it up everything was working fine. january 13th, 2016 i was returning home. there was snow on the ground and i was making a left turn onto my street. the brake pedal went soft again. this morning my mother took it to work and she was forced to run a red light at 5:30 am because she could not stop because the pedal was soft. every time the pedal went soft, it was because i was making a turn. the speeds i was going at were 40mph, 35mph and 20mph. after further research, i have learned that it has nothing to do with the master cylinder, brakes, rotors nor calipers, but has to do with the abs and hcu.
Light snow on roads when i approached a stop sign. approached slowly and began to lightly apply the brakes. felt/heard abs engage when the brake pedal lost all resistance and went to the floor. began franticly pumping the brakes and, after approximately 10 pumps, they returned. pulled away from intersection and lightly applied brakes on a dry area of pavement; same result as above. abs indicator light is not on. immediately took vehicle to a repair facility (pumping my leg off every time i had to decrease speed) and they found no issue. stated the problem is likely with the abs hcu (as they had seen the same issue occur on a lincoln mks). pedal restored to normal while traveling home from shop.**updated 9/28/16 two days after i reported the original incident, i was driving my morning commute and began to brake as i approached a busy intersection (three directions of traffic but only 1 direction has to stop). very small spots of unmelted snow were present on the road and again, the brake pedal went to the floor. i also went beyond my desired stopping point on this occasion, as well. in fact, the vehicle only stopped because i wrecked into the back of another vehicle that was waiting to turn.*smch
While trying to stop the car while in motion, the brake pedal goes down all the way to the floor, and it takes longer than it should to stop the car. for several seconds after starting to press the brake, it seems like the car will not stop even though the brake is pressed to the floor. i've almost been in several wrecks and have only avoided them by pressing my brakes well before i have needed to the point of trying to stop at green lights just in case. i have taken it to 3 different ford dealerships to try and fix the breaks to the point where the brake booster, caliper, and brake module have all been replaced yet the brakes still do not work properly. i hope that this problem can be resolved before someone is killed because he or she was unable to stop his or her car due to the faulty breaks.
I, and many others, have had issues with ford fusion brake problems after an abs event (as it is referred to). the vehicle is in motion and when braking and hitting a patch of ice, for example, the abs activate. the problem is that the brakes do not return to normal immediately because the abs pump valves get stuck and the brake fluid circulates. it takes time to come back to normal which is not a normal thing. we believe it should be a safety issue and that the anti-lock brake pump/control module should be recalled. if you were to google search ford fusion brake problems and or soft brake pedals, etc (regarding the fusion) you will find a lot of information. i am a ford lover and love my fusion but it is disturbing that ford refuses to recognize this as a safety recall after emails and contact with ford. i copied one link to give you an idea of the problem. this has happened multiple times in the past two years. the brakes should return to normal instantly, not after an indefinite period of time. thank you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwflkcxxzty [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' *tr
After an abs even the brakes become spongy or even non-existant. 2 different dealers say no problems. this issue has nearly caused several accidents as the brakes are inconsistent. on-line several people point to a failure of the hbu. i just need to know if this is it. i can not keep throwing money at this issue. ford needs to either step up and recall this or tell dealers what to fix.
When braking on icy, wet, or snowy roads the brakes work the first time but then when you attempt to brake again the brake pedal hits the floor and you loose brake pressure. in order to regain brake pressure you have to pump the brakes hard or slam on them a few times for the brakes to begin working again. this happened at least 5x last winter. we called several ford dealers to report this problem and were told they had never heard of it. after fearing for our safety we researched the problem on the internet and found many other fusion owners reporting the same problem and had success fixing this problem by replacing the abs. we took our car to a dealer and they were unable to confirm the problem. we went with our gut and had the abs replaced. we paid out of pocket about 2,000 for this repair.
Had instance to hit breaks when sliding on ice. car stopped and abs was working. afterwords, pedal depressed to floor. i could stop by pumping them, but thought they had suffured failure. mechanic i took the car to, said he reset computer code, found air in line, and they worked fine for over a year. last month, they did the same thing. this time over the course of a couple of days while were away from home, we stopped very carefully. they did seem to correct themselves over the course of time. returned to mechanic, who went online to try and find reason for problem, after finding no other problem with system, believes that the fault lies in the abs module. these incidents all happened during extreme braking proceedures.
I was coming to a stop while turning in a thin patch of mud, the brake pedal went nearly all the way to the floor causing a drastic drop in braking capability. apparently, after an "abs event", a valve in the abs control unit sticks open robbing the system of pressure. after the abs event, i was able to re-pressurize the system by pumping on the brake pedal several times.
I was driving down a side street on a monday night. it had snowed on saturday and there had been some thawing and icing. i came to a stop sign and when i applied the brakes the anti-lock brakes engaged. after that the brakes lost their pressure making braking more difficult. i definitely could not stop fast if i needed too making it a dangerous situation. this is exactly what happened in august of 2015 as well. i drove the 1/2 mile to my house and decided i would take it to a ford dealership the next day. unfortunately on my way there the brakes once again engaged therefore, not showing up on any test. again, just like in august. i have many concerns with this problem, i do not feel comfortable driving people in my vehicle, people who know i have a problem do not want me to drive them and then there's my daughter who i will not allow to drive the car. i would not want to sell the car knowing that whoever purchased it would be caught off guard because they would be unaware of the problems that seem to be happening to others as well, but yet there is no recall! go figure that nothing will be done until someone (a child) is killed due to greed! go to the following links for more of the same complaints: http://www.aboutautomobile.com & http://fordproblem.com/2008-ford-fusion-service-brakes-problems-defects//complaint/2008/ford/fusion/hydraulic+brake
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 ford fusion. the contact stated that the hcu became jammed in the open position, causing the brake pedal to stick to the floor when depressed. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the hcu was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 81,000.
After noticing braking issues i had a mechanic look at it to investigate what the issue maybe. i was told it was the master cylinder. this part was replaced and then after replacing noticed air going into the line. after noticing the sound of air there was air lines after the flush. it was determined a faulty abs sensor
Soft pedal, goes almost to the floor, hydraulic control unit has been changed, brakes have been bleed manually and power bleed. common issue ford knows about involving 2007 and 2008 ford fusions. already called ford and complained. very costly fix for the consumer $950 part. the vehicle was in motion when it occurred. it also did it when hitting a bump and the abs turned on, the pedal remained soft, no abs light or brake lights on.
After abs event, brake pedal is now low. shop checked for leaks, air, and master cylinder health and everything was fine. the hydraulic control unit seems to be the only other explanation. car does stop but barely.
Attached is the work order and the payment receipt we paid ford, we pray that we can get our money back. on oct 28,2015 my ford fusion: low/soft brake pedal at times , i brought my certified pre owned ford fusion 2008 in 2012, at capital ford dealership in raleigh nc. the service department is wonderful. i am a senior citizen on social security i have no funds for savings so i am limited in what i do, my brake pedal goes all the way to the floor, i drive my great grandson to kindergarten daily, to school and on that day it was a dry day, i am afraid the car won't stop one day. i have all info that it is not the master cylinder, but a hcu, my warranty ran out at 124,000 miles, i have 132,000 miles, but i understand that this has been an issue with the 2008 ford fusions. then on nov. 3 i was driving to raleigh and went to stop at the light and the pedal went all the way to the floor, and i panicked but got the car to stop with hitting any thing, when my husband called ford the man said that they had problems with that year vehicle before, and that all 3 components of the brake system had to be replaced ant the same time we have no money other than social security, and we had to pay $2,700 to have it fixed this is so terrible for a company like ford to have a recall on floor mats and not on the brake system or the transmission, our car was taken back to ford about the car lurching forward when we stepped on the gas and them at 40 miles per hour the whole car would lurch like it was jumping put of gear, and the ford mechanic said they couldn't find anything wrong with the car, we will never buy another ford. While driving my car the brake pedal goes all the way down to the floor, i have a small child and i am afraid the brakes won't work, i see that a lot of people have had the same problem on the computer, i took my car back to ford and they said they know that this is happening but it will cost me $2,000, i am a senior i don't have it, help.
The brakes went all the way down to the floor, the ford dealer said that there are 3 components in the system 1)master cylinder 2)hcu 3)power booster, he said that the master cylinder probably leaked into the hcu, which in turn messed up the power booster. the dealership also said that there have been numerous complaints from other 2008 ford fusion owners with the same thing. so our question is why doesn't ford have a recall since they said there is a problem with the brake system on the 2008 ford fusion? now they want us to pay $2070 to have it fixed, we have a small grandchild that we transport to school daily, if something happens to the brake system, then what? we want ford to have a recall on this before someone dies. how could all 3 components go bad at once????
Faulty hcu: in march 2015, made a hard stop and the '08 fusion went into an abs stop. the brake pedal became very soft and almost went to the floor. i had to pull off the road and pump the brakes repeatedly to get back to a it's normal state. fortunately, i was only driving 25-30 mph. i took the car to a ford dealer to have it inspected for a cost of $125. of course, they said everything was fine. ford probably told their dealer to keep silent on this issue. within a few months, this same thing happened again while trying to stop on very a rough road. fortunately, again i was only driving about 25mph. now, this was getting a little frightening so i researched the internet and concluded that it was an issue with the hcu. on 10/23/15, i had the hcu replaced by a ford dealer for a cost of almost $1,200. problem solved...at my expense. funny how the ford dealer couldn't trouble shoot this issue.
Why isn't there a recall on the brakes and transmission, our brake pedal went all the way down to the floor on a few occasions, then it seemed fine, and it would happen again, there have been numerous complaints on this issue, we had to pay $2,700 to have ford fix it, and the transmission jumps, when you step on the gas the car lurches and this is going to cost a lot of money that we don't have.
While slowly driving, i heard a pop noise and then the brake pedal went to the floor. i had the breaks checked, rotor, pad, fluid and had them bled. nothing wrong and no change. i took them 3 different places and they could find nothing wrong. if i pumped the breaks, the pedal will come back, but if i hit a pothole, minor bump or if its wet, snow or ice...they go out again and i am terrified of wrecking and hurting myself or someone else! i took it in somewhere else and they were able to tell me it's the abs system and that it may need a new abs module which is quite expensive! i am very afraid to drive, but i have no choice; work and home. this is a huge safety issue! i have now seen this problem reported several times and no recall? why is this not taken care of? i wonder how many accidents have been due to this? what does it take to have it recalled? it is obviously a defective abs problem...that ford is not addressing.
While driving on a gravel road at slow speed for about 3 miles i came to a stop sign/intersection. when i applied the brakes there was no resistance and the pedal went to the floor before it did brake and locked the wheels and slid to a stop. i drove another hundred feet and pulled off the road and it did the same thing; pedal to the floor. with motor idling i opened the hood and checked the brake fluid level which was full, closed the hood and checked the brakes and they were fine; a full pedal. i drove another 20 miles or so in stop and go traffic and the brakes were flawless, full working pedal, no problems at all. i then went to my local ford dealership where i related the above to the service mgr. and was told there was no way to diagnose the problem since at that time everything was working fine. he advised me that it could be the booster or master cylinder losing vacuum , but there was no way to check it. i suggested trading the vehicle since it is dangerous to drive but that might get someone else killed. the service mgr. said if/when it happens and does not change or correct itself, they could then fix it. when it happens again i fear it will result in an accident. what can i do? there are several forums, etc. that suggest i am not alone. i bought this car new and nothing has been done to it. i am so afraid it will happen again and cause an accident that i cannot keep it and i fear for anyone who purchases it. i need an answer.
Upon exiting a highway and approaching a right turn exit ramp and driving over a rough patch of road under construction. while turning and simultaneously applying the brakes the abs system engaged and then the brake system suddenly failed with the pedal going to the floor making it very difficult to stop the car. i arrived at my location less than a mile away and safely parked the car. after my work conference (7 hours later) i returned to my car and the brakes pressure returned, but remained very soft. currently, when the car is now operated the brake pedal needs to be applied almost to the floor when descending a hill or coming to a complete stop on level ground. the car responds initially when the brake pedal is applied, but then goes soft as the car needs to come to a stop at less than 10mph. to find consistent pressure for braking the car responds best when the brake pedal is depressed partially, then released and applied again. this method was adopted after the brake failure occurred. brake pads and rotors are in good condition. *tr
When attempting to brake weather on highway/gravel/city streets or bumps this vehicles brakes are not working properly. they are very soft to push as if there was air in lines, you always have the brake peddel to the floor to stop and pray that you do stop. i have spent $$$ trying to fix this problem... one day im not going to stop in time my kids or myself and anyone kr anuthing involved is going to be hurt. this problem is worse if the road is wet but it is still a constant problem on an every day basis. i have had workers from ford and other shopes tell me i need to get it fixed, as i have tried and spent $400+ and still wont fix it. i have been doing research and seems like it is the abs module from other complaints.
